i think that many therians and otherkins are too concerned about being canonical to their kin/theriotype. like for example "i always feel like i am a horse but im not really sure bc i dont like running and dont eat apples and carrots" or "can i be a terrier if im not that energetic and dont really like children?"

like listen. animals are not all the same. if you ever had few animals of same species (at least mammals and birds) you saw that they had different habits, different moods, different preference. even dogs of same breed, even sibling dogs can have very diverse personalities. and not all of them are typical. sometimes theres terriers that dont very active, greyhounds that dont feel like running, anxious labradors, aggressive spaniels, carefree sheperds and so on. maybe theres not too many of them but they exist. it happens and its normal thing. and they are still terriers, labradors and so on.

animals have personalities. and of course they have preferences. you know, humans are also animals. many humans love berries, its perfectly normal and common, berries are healthy and tasty food for them. but some people just dont like fruits, they dont want to eat them, dont like their taste (or texture or whatever). the same goes with different animals.

you always can explore yourself and your kin, its actually encouraged and good thing to do. but if you are sure that you are some specific kind of hound (or any other animal) then you are one and dont feel guilty just because you dont behave right as it described in wikipedia. you are a living animal, not a sample.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm a wolf and a dog separately, in different past lives.

Currently I'm thinking my dog 'type is a Scottish deerhound?

It's weird cos the instincts for each feel slightly different, the wolf is wilder and more free but the hound is so happy and excited to impress people for praise and treats?

hi!!! im Hound or Houndie or Lia and im a 19yo brazilian butch lesbian of color. im an artist and a cosplayer, a MUNkid and musical theathre enthusiast, and im in college for veterinary medicine. im an ENFP, 9w1, sanguine: i cant remember any other personality tests but thats the spirit, a people-person who is strongly passionate about stuff.

i am a psychological poly-suntherian, having a strong identity as a mutt stray dog and a weaker reptile theriotype, specifically a gecko. i experience phantom shifts but no mental ones as i am constantly "shifted" (suntherian). i found the community in september 2017 if i recall correctly, and in the meantime i had many changes in my belief system and identity.

i mainly use she/her pronouns but i like he/him as well. i am a cis woman and would consider myself gender non-conforming. i have had mogai identities in the past but i no longer identify with any of them (its just not for me, but i still respect everyone).

been doing a lot of passive reflecting & i think. because of how i experience and analyze my animality, i'm gonna be using fictherian (alongside folcintera) to describe all my animal aspects. or maybe just folcintera, because that covers what i'm about to ramble about pretty much spot on.

my primary framework is narrative, and i experience a lot (if not all) of my animality & nonhumanity with this layer of... "abstraction" is kind of the word i'm looking for. like, all my theriotypes feel as if they come from obscure xenofiction stories. i am these creatures, i experience these instincts/shifts/etc, but my source is rooted in fiction - no matter how "realistic" it may be.

the folcinteric part of it plays a Huge role here, too, because xenofiction often has such specific vibes & expectations (AND it also varies depending on if it's Mythic or Naturalist xenofiction). i am both fantastical and mundane, be my canon from a story like Warrior Cats, or something like Fox & The Hound (both xenofiction works, the former being extremely grounded in reality & the other going off the deep end with fantastical elements).

i have no idea if that made much sense, but i'll eventually get around to writing up a better word-soup on this lol
