The internet today offers a wide range of benefits from learning new information, writing blogs, school works, interacting with people, buying or selling products, and more. But it also has its fair share of problems, since we do most of our activities online, hackers can steal our information, and use them in illegal activities such as cybercrime. That is why we need to be responsible digital citizens. Below are examples of the safety practices I employ in using the internet

1. Practice Digital Etiquette: I always behave appropriately according to the proper standards of conduct as well as being polite and sensitive to others. At the same time, I do not use harsh and aggressive language. And, most importantly, I do not take part in cyberbullying. In this way, I make the internet safer and more welcoming to others. It also helps people feel valued, visible, loved, and respected. Without proper digital etiquette, the internet will become a hostile place filled with misinformed facts.

2. Protecting My Personal Information: I also protect my private information by not sharing my personal information with people I do not know and on insecure websites. Hackers can get my data and use it in illegal activities. They can steal my identity, use it as leverage for ransom, access my family's banking details, and obtain our credit cards or loans. 

3. Sharing My Information Properly: I also take precautions when using my gadgets or devices. Also, I try to be careful of what I share online. That is why I always think wisely before I click links. 

4. Learning About Copyright and Fair Use Policies: I am also legally accountable for my activities online that is why I always make sure to cite my document or file sources, such as those that I put in my schoolwork such as essays, and research papers. I always acknowledge other works including their names and the website where I took them.

share your 'clone group chat' fic recs plz

Everyone is enabling me! I saw Goody Proctor watching the Bombad Jedi episode!!! I BLAME YOU ALL!!!

I'm weirdly nervous about sending these links because I forgot how Deep and Opinionated and Discourse-y the Star Wars fandom actually is, but I'm also low-key SUPER interested in chatfic because I'm old enough to remember AIMfic and message board fic, and also to remember the days when this fanfic format was completely unheard of because the technology wasn't actually there. IMHO, the best groupchat fics are a little bit OOC because the characters have to translate their canon personalities into millenial/gen Z text quirks and memes/slang.

It is fascinating to compare the differences between generations of fic. For example, most of the fics below assume the actual server has basic similarities to Discord/Facebook Messenger/etc - the power to nickname the chat, change participants' nicknames, etc. However, emojis aren't super common because it is just kind of a pain to put those in your fic and make sure they upload to ao3. In YE Olden Days, people logged on with a chosen l33t username and used textmojis!

First day of High School was exciting but yet uncertainties. Nothing too memorable except for 4th period. It was my world language class and I was in it with a few friends from basketball team. When I looked a bit to the left directly across, I saw a beautiful girl sitting in the corner. Dark long hair, cute plump lips, got cat looking eyes and fairly light skin. I wanted to approach her but didn’t know how. I couldn’t help but gaze at her beauty but teacher loud voice snapped me back to reality. Teacher said “go around class and get 3 people contacts for emergency”. Right then and there, I knew this was my chance. I walked directly to her but turn to opposite side and ask my basketball friend for his number. It was funny because I already got his number and didn’t want to seem too straight forward when I ask for hers. After Kenny gave me his number, I turned over and ask for her name. She said “Angela”. Her name fits her well because of how gorgeous she is. Then I proceed to ask for her AIM messenger, she hestitate and looked at me a bit awkwardly. That few second felt like eternity but finally she grab her pen and wrote it down. I was extremely happy inside but of course I didn’t want to show it.

That night, I went home and added her name but I came across a problem where I couldn’t tell if she wrote down R or V as part of the username. I went ahead and just added both just in case. around 8 pm I saw her online and I wanted to talk to her so bad but didn’t know how to start. I sat and stared at her online status on for a while then finally it went offline. I messed it up, my hestitation cost me the chance that night.

The next day, I went to school really early because that’s when my mom’s co worker can drop me off. To me it must have been fate because I saw her again! I found out that she has zero period and where her locker was. My anxiety kicked it so I just stayed by the cafeteria watching her grabbed her book and went to her class.

4th period came and we were in class together on more time. I tried my best not to look at her directly because I knew that would creep her out as any normal person would feel. Our eyes met a few times but I just turned away. Some part of me tell me that she knew I was looking at her but then she didn’t seems to mind.

Afterschool, I went home and hop on my computer right away to see if she is online. I did my home work by the computer the whole time so I don’t miss her. Around 7:30ish she went online and I finally got enough courage to say hi. I don’t remember exactly what we were taking about but I remember finding out that she has a boyfriend name Ben. I was a bit heartbroken but I just wanted to keep talking to her at this point since she was a fun person to talk to.

We kept talking as friend for a few months then that eventually led to webcaming. We could webcam every night until we fall asleep just to keep each other company. Angela eventually broke up with Ben but then it was a terrible timing since I was dating some other girl at the time. My feeling for her never went away, she always have a part of my heart. Even though I had a girlfriend, I kept webcaming with Angela and play OMGpop with her. She would take picture of me when I fell asleep and make fun of me the next day. Eventually, I trusted each other enough to share each other password for Facebook. I didn’t minor pranks on her but then she went ahead and change my interest into “men”. I didn’t know for months and it was weird because many gay men started adding me on Facebook. Our relationship didn’t go anywhere and we remained close friends.

Not to long after she met a guy our year name Jimmy. They started dating soon after and seems perfectly happy together. My relationships with girls at school always been rocky so never lasts too long. I was single again but she’s not. Angela and I talks started talking less, but we always check up on each other once in a while. We never hang out in school but outside of school we are very close.

I was other girls on and off her and there but never too long. On the other hand, Angela dated Jimmy for a very long time. We went out to eat together at boiling crabs, and it was absolutely perfect. She joke around each other and having amazing time. I put ketchup on her face and she did it back. We also went to get boba together at volcano tea when it was still open. We didn’t mind haven’t very close physical contacts. One time when there was only 1 chair, I let her sit and I stand. She didn’t want me to stand and have me sit on her lap. It was absolutely cute. We hang out together many times after. One of the most memorial one was when we went swimming and her friend left so we climb on top of the roof and chat for hours. Those hours will always be in my heart because I knew I was in love with her then. I didn’t let her know because it wouldn’t change anything because she has Jimmy. As long as she’s happy I’m happy even though I do wish I was in Jimmy’s shoes.

There was an event one night for my high school choirs. It was Disney theme so Angela and I went. We went to go get boba first then walk all the way to garden grove high school. We were still really early so we just sit in the library messing with each other. She introduce me to this game called finding Waldo. We had a blast and went through the whole day and night just having fun.

Almost all relationship don’t last in high school and that includes Angela and Jimmy. They broke up and there was my chance again. For the first time, we were both single. I gave her time because I want her to figure everything out. I didn’t just want to jump in right after because there is a chance she still has feeling for Jimmy. We went swimming again but this time it was at Kathleen apartment. Kathleen brought few guys with her while Angela brought me. Time with Angela there was perfect. I felt this bond with her when we both look at each other’s eyes. I knew she developed feelings for me but I don’t know why I didn’t do anything about it. That night she told me that she wanted to kiss me and if I initiated, she was have happily kiss me back. Well, that made me feel so stupid and wish I could just go back half a day.

Then my friends invited me to go to sixflags and I wanted to go with Angela so I invited her. As soon as we got to the park, Angela and I split up and went on our own. We were walking so close that I could smell her soothing scent. I took a chance and put my arms around her waist. To my surprise, she wrapped her arm around me back and we continued walking. I felt so much butterflies in my chest at the time and don’t really know how to describe it. We went through the whole day just holding each other and appreciate having each other. I thought, this is it, I’m finally with the girl I been dreaming of.

When we went home, some how we just went back to how we were before. Angela acts like sixflags never happened. I was so confused and hurt at the same time. Even until this day I’m still confused and not sure what I did wrong or what happened. I just stopped talking to her completely for a few months because my heart was hurt so bad. I didn’t know how to talk to her.

It took a while but I came to accept it. It was probably my fault for not sealing the deal by asking her to be my girlfriend. I hit her up again and guess what, she is with some dude name Chris. Wtf. Well whatever, I went through this before so it’s ok, as long as she’s happy I’m happy. I just want her to be happy. I guess that’s what love is. I kept on staying by her side no matter what. I went through a few girlfriends too. She was always on my side.

I met this wonderful girl name Diane who I’m still dating today. It have been almost 7 years. She loves me a lot and I love her too. For some reason there’s always Angela in small part of my heart. We remains friends even until now. Her relationship with Chris ended recently, and she was hurt both physically and mentally. I don’t really know what to do except for being by her side. I probably a dirtbag. I have a girlfriend whom I love but also I’m in love with my bestfriend. I don’t know if that’s even possible but I hope we will be close forever.

Oh hi, I have details for you about the Newest Facebook Messenger Scam.

Unfortunately from personal experience. Here's how it goes...

So first, you'll get a message that seems to come from someone you're friends with on Facebook. "Hey," they'll say. "Can I bug you for a second?" (Or something along those lines.)

You ask what's up. "I'm doing some research and I need an article from Google scholar, but it won't let me use my Google account log in. Could I possibly borrow yours?"

Depending how much you trust the person this appears to come from, and how likely a request this would be from them, you'll either ignore this message (good choice), or call them personally to ask more about this weird message (also good choice), or you'll just say "Sure!" (unfortunately the wrong choice, but also the one I made, and the one a lot of people make who just want to help their friend out of a tight spot.)

The person posing as your friend thanks you a bunch. A few minutes later they write back, saying "Oh darn, it's asking me for a code that they sent to your phone. Did you get one?" You check and sure enough you did get a code, so you send it to them.

If you're like me, this might be when you suddenly remember all the times you've been warned not to give out passwords online. So to put your mind at ease, you ask a personal question - something you're pretty sure only you and the friend would know. And a couple minutes later they answer it correctly! Seems pretty legit!

A bit later, they write one more time. "Omg sorry, now it's asking me a security question. Who's your favourite writer? Lol," they add, "that's probably a long list!"

So you suggest an answer to them. And then you don't hear back. And then...

You start getting messages from your other friends, and this time it's really them writing to you. "Was your account hacked?" they ask. "Is this really you?" You get a call from a concerned friend looking out for you, suspecting it wasn't you who sent them that message.

You also get follow-up messages from other friends. "Did you get the article you were looking for from Google scholar?" "Did my login work?" "What's your project about?" When you scroll up in these messages, you find the entire rest of your conversation history deleted.

You realize you've been hacked. You google what to do. Gmail luckily has an easy-to-navigate security checklist for when you think your account has been accessed by someone else. It shows you the list of devices that have logged on to your email recently. Your phone and your laptop are listed -- and so is an unknown Macbook near Toronto. Gmail gives you an option to flag this computer and automatically log it off your account. (You're really, really glad the hacker didn't try to do this to log you out of your own account. Small blessings.)

It shows you what else they've accessed -- Your google drive photo albums. Your email. Your facebook. It prompts you to change your password. (Actually, you read later, it would have been better to change your password before logging them off, since the log off could alert them that you know about the hack, and they could quickly change your passwords to prevent you from taking any next steps.)

You start messaging friends on Facebook to warn them what happened. There's not much rhyme or reason for who got the message from your account and who didn't. You post a quick general warning on Facebook. And then when you get home, you write out a long, public, detailed description of what happened.

In hopes it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Its 2am and I'm not tired so it's time for a history of my technologically oppressed upbringing!

A little background: My dad is some kind of Heritage Foundation Exemplary Weirdo or some shit, so he thinks the internet was invented in order for Muslim Democrats to brainwash children and steal his social security number? So a lot of stuff that happened to me growing up is a result of his not being ready to accept the direction technology was heading because he just Knew it would end with stolen identities and empty bank accounts and no one loving him. It's funny now, but it actually sucked a lot at the time, and to this day I am learning of things I missed out on because of my lack of access to basically every means of communication my classmates were taking full advantage of. Please add to this if you've had similar experiences.

I didn't get a cell phone til I was 16. And my dad only agreed to that because he thought I would be getting my driver's license that year. (Joke was on him, took me two more years!) So for half of my high school existence (until 2007!!!!!), I had to use Other People's Parent's House Phones to let my family know where I was after school.

I didn't get texting til I was 19. That was 2010, people. I was at a friend's birthday party when my dad called to tell me it had happened, and I literally started texting people who were standing right next to me. I was so bad at it that after about a day no one wanted to text me anymore.

My family didn't get highspeed internet and until I was 20. This was after my first year of college. I had to do all my homework at the library. Before this, we had dial-up. This was 2011, people.

We also got wifi in 2011. My laptop at the time didnt connect to it, so it wasnt really that thrilling for me. But my brother's did, so of course we tested it by going outside and seeing how far away from the house we could Google. Everyone I told about this was too horrified that we didn't already have wifi to be happy for me.

Also my dad had a thing about the encryption with the wifi so you had to enter two passwords, a regular one and one that was kept on a secret notecard in the bottom of a desk drawer. It was a random combination of letters and numbers that changed far too often (in order to keep out the wifi terrorists or something) so people that came over always had to ask for the notecard and then my dad would know they were trying to use our internet which was to him somehow a bad thing??

Growing up, I shared an AOL instant messenger account with my siblings. We weren't allowed to have our own, so we would message people together as a unit or arrange certain times beforehand so our friends knew who they were talking to. For this reason it was pretty much a guarantee that no secrets were kept between the three of us, whether we liked it or not. Our only official "friends" were our cousins. If we talked to anyone else, we would type in the username manually and delete the conversations before Dad saw.

I wasn't allowed to have a myspace (or later, a Facebook). Not "until you're older", just straight not allowed. So of course my friends with regular lives would help me make secret ones on their computers, only for me to try to get into them from the school library and realize I'd forgotten the password. I made my current Facebook account while house-sitting for a childhood friend in 2009, and only kept it because I happened to remember the password.

My dad was horrified when he found out I had an email address. I was 14 and had been "[email protected]" for 2 years already, but I didn't tell him that.

When we were younger, the three of us shared a single Gameboy Color. Since I've always been a people pleaser and I was the least into video games, it was almost never my turn. And that's why I've played Super Mario for SNES so many times and I know nothing about Pokemon. (This doesnt have much to do with my dad being an insane person, but it IS a legitimate complaint.)

Today I received this email from a hacker (using a Japanese yahoo address).

I will acknowledge that the password he listed was in fact correct for that email account he is targeting, but his attempts at extorting money from me has numerous problems.

I was very easily able to change the password on this email address so it can not be accessed again by anyone else. Since this particular email is part of a private domain which I own, in order to change the password you first have to log in to a different master account (which uses a completely different password) and jump through a couple 2-factor security checks.

I also don’t have my real name or any personal information listed on or connected to those accounts. So, there’s no real way to even identify who I am.

The only websites I watch videos on are youtube, and here on tumblr. Which means that if there is a video with this supposed hack embedded in it, then the security on these sites is much more horrific than they would like anyone to know. And all of us are most likely affected.

I only watch videos using my PC, and my facebook and messenger accounts are only stored on my phone. There are no emails or other accounts that are ever shared across the two devices. They are not linked in any way.

I have never registered with any porn sites. So, this email address would never be connected to any nefarious websites. Even with social networking and more “legitimate” sites, I create and use a different email address for each one. It’s rare that two or more websites are registered with the same email account.

In fact, I very rarely ever use this particular account at all. I created it for a specific purpose over 10 years ago. A purpose I no longer need, and therefore no email is ever sent through that account, and the only messages I receive are either from this dumbass or the random pieces junkmail which I automatically delete.

Because of reason 5, the contacts list is completely empty. I’ve never saved a contact list on any of the 20+ email addresses I have created over the years. Therefore, there is no one I know who would be receiving the damning video he allegedly has.

Speaking of the video, I do not own a webcam. So, there’s no way there would be video of me pleasuring myself or doing anything at all. And why would I care if anyone knows what porn video I was supposedly watching.

I don’t have $5000 laying around, so I couldn’t send it even if I was paranoid and stupid enough to pay.

Just in case there are any people that know how to hack and steal bitcoins, that guy’s account address is listed right there in the picture. Do whatever you want with that information. (Though if you do wipe out that guy’s account, I wouldn’t complain if you chose to send a few bucks my way)
