Iwaizumi Hajime (27), The Athletic Trainer (NSFW)
!Iwaizumi x !reader NSFW
Hajime Iwaizumi (27) Athletic Trainer x Y/n (21ish) College student/College soccer player
As a college soccer player with constant knee issues, you had become very friendly with Iwaizumi. After your latest injury, you two became extra friendly.
Warnings: Semi-public (storage closet), creampie, lots of teasing, bit of a slow burn, but also shameless smut.
Word count: 3015
I did try to edit some, but if its bad just let me know!
Tumblr media
You knew you shouldn’t be doing this...but there was something about being in situations like this that just got you going.
It was after soccer practice and as always, you went to the athletic room to grab some ice for your knee. ACL reconstruction a few years prior meant you spent a lot of time with the trainers, whether it be tending to your old injury or taking steps to prevent another one.
You limped into the athletics room, tee shirt slung over your shoulder as you had used it to wipe the sweat that was coating your body. Both legs wrapped up with pre-wrap under the constricting knee braces.
Iwaizumi was sitting at his desk in the back, glasses on while he reads (what you assume are) emails. You let the door slam behind you before limping over to an exam table, hopping up and scooting back until both legs are straight in front of you.
“Iwa...my knees hurrrrt todaaaay.” You whine, flopping back on the table. You ball your shirt up and put it behind your head, getting comfortable as you hear Iwaizumi huff from behind you.
“Well, maybe if you actually stretched like you were supposed to, and iced regularly after practice and games, they wouldn’t hurt so bad.” He says, dropping his glasses on his keyboard as he stands and makes his way over to you.
He takes one look at the dirt and grass stains marking your knee braces and shorts, shaking his head. “Or maybe if you could stay on your feet instead of insisting on playing on your knees..”he trails off, giving you a dirty look.
You smirk as you look up at him, “oh? I thought you would appreciate me so much more on my knees and than my knee Iwa. My bad...” you giggle, teasing him as the tips of his ears begin to glow a soft shade of pink.
“Well y/n, not sure what gave you that idea...” “Oh come on Iwa, it’s not like you’re a professor or anything. No need to be so stiff with me.” You tease again, wiggling your toes as he picks up one of your legs.
He shakes his head, trying to wipe the smirk off his face as he slowly tugs down the knee braces from each leg. You wince several times, closing your eyes and taking deep breaths.
“Y/n...these look pretty bad today. When was the last time you took a break?”
You shrug, keeping your eyes closed as you knew his face would be angry if you met his eyes.
“Y/n I’m being serious. Don’t you think you’ve done enough damage as it is? You’re already had surgery on your ACL and at this rate you’ll be getting 2 full knee replacements by the time you’re 30.” He rolls his eyes, knowing you are hearing what he is saying, but ignoring his warnings.
“Okay fine. Want to ignore me? You’re out of practice for the rest of this week. You report here during practice for some physical rehab and actual resting.”
Your eyes spring open as you sit straight up, “Iwaizumi! You can’t do that! We’re getting way too close to our qualifying games for me to be sitting out of practice for an entire week!” You say, trying to calm the panic in your chest and stomach.
“No y/n. This is the best time for it. Because I know the type of person you are, and you’re going to keep pushing yourself too hard. If you keep going like this, you’ll end up hurt during one of those games. You remind me of my best friend...you even get on my nerves just like him…” He says, a small smirk on his face as he turns away from you, grabbing an ice pack and ace bandage wrap.
You flop back down onto the table, going over your schedule in your head. “You know this is bullshit right?..” You say quietly, having no argument back to what he was saying. You lay the backs of your hands over your eyes, knowing the tears were going to start escaping, but also knowing that it was a stupid reason to cry.
You feel Iwaizumi’s warm hand pushing some stray hair behind your ear as he leans down closer to you.
“I know it seems bad now, but I really am just looking out for you...I don’t want you to get hurt so bad that you can’t keep playing..”
You take a deep breath, wiping away the few tears that did manage to escape before giving him a small smile.
“Yes I know that. I’m literally your favorite athlete here, and I’m pretty sure you’d quit if I wasn’t playing anymore.” You say, teasing him slightly as he wraps an ice pack around each knee.
“You keep things interesting around here for sure.” He says as he lightly slaps your thigh. “Now get up and get out. I’ll see you here at 2, and I’ll let your coach know you are out of practice for the rest of the week. I better not even see you near the field.”
You roll your eyes, biting your lip as you lower yourself onto the ground again. You feel, as well as hear your knees and ankles pop in protest. You slip on your sandals and grab your bag, refusing to make eye contact again, because you already knew what he was going to say.
“Yeah yeah yeah. You give orders and I obey them. Seems like a shitty deal for me, but whatever I guess.”
--------
You show up a little after 2pm wearing shorts and your Karasuno sweatshirt from high school. It was your favorite as it was oversized, overly worn out and absolutely perfect. Iwaizumi is working with a player from the men’s volleyball team as you sit down in one of the chairs on the opposite side of the room.
Your eyes dance over the mysterious volleyball player's body as you settle in. You notice how big his hands are and how some fingers seem to be taped together. It didn’t make sense to you but god did you want to suck on his fingers. They just looked so big and thick. As your eyes continue to travel, they somehow wind up on Iwaizumi.
His hands were actually pretty big too now that you really looked at them...And he was pretty muscular. Did he work out? I mean, he probably did right? He was an athletic trainer, so like, he also trains. Right? His legs...fuck. His thighs were looking so thick today. Had they always looked like that? Was he wearing shorts like that yesterday too?
Your eyes fall down to his eyes before slowly crawling back up and pausing. Mmm if he’s that big and thick everywhere else….I wonder if he’s also big and thick right there too..
You wet your lips with the tip of your tongue, completely lost in your thoughts as you stare at Iwaizumi's presumably large clothed cock. You smirk to yourself, laughing to yourself as your mind spirals out of control.
“Y/n. You having fun over there?” He says just a bit too loudly, pulling you from your rated-R thoughts and causing you to gasp just as loud. You cover your face with your hands, trying to hide the reddish pink that is surely painting your cheeks by now.
“What the actual fuck Iwa. Did you have to fucking yell?” You say between your fingers, begging your heart rate to return to normal.
He chuckles as he walks over to you, crouching down in front of you and placing his large hands over your knees. You look down to see that they completely cover your knees and his fingers come up a considerable amount onto your thighs. You finally look up at him and meet his eyes. You can see the playfulness, and perhaps a hint of something else hidden in there.
“Well it seemed like you were a bit distracted by...something. And you also were staring pretty hard. So I just wanted to make sure you heard me. Duh.”
You grab his chin and pull him a little closer, tilting your head in the process.
“Oh? I was staring? And what exactly was I staring at...Iwa-chan?”
He looks down at your lips, slowly licking his before dragging his eyes up and catching yours. He moves a little closer, putting almost no space between the two of you, your noses brushing against each other.
His voice drops down, barely above a whisper, “You’re playing a dangerous game little girl...don’t bite off more than you can chew…”
You try to hide the nervousness you were feeling as you tilt your head, ghosting your lips over his, “Mmm it’s okay if you can’t keep up old ma-...” Before you finish your sentence, Iwaizumi closes the small distance between your lips. One hand leaves your knee, quickly grabbing onto the base of your neck before snaking up into your hair. His hand feels so much bigger as it spans the back of your head, finally moving to grab onto your ponytail.
His lips feel hot and fast against yours, quickly finding your tongues twisting and toying with each other. Your small hands cup the sides of his face, pulling him closer as he takes your bottom lip between his teeth. A breathless sound leaves you as his hand tightens around your hair and he softly pulls back on your lip.
He pulls your head back by your ponytail, standing up and towering over you. “I’m serious y/n. This is your last chance to leave. We can go back to how we were, flirty and fun…” He trails off as you softly shake your head. He pulls your head back further, looking down at you intensely, “Then say it. Tell me exactly what you want.” You feel as your cheeks burn as a tingle shoots down between your legs. You squeeze your legs together, looking up at him suddenly embarrassed.
“I want you to fuck me Hajime..” You say, your voice barely above a whisper.
His hands slide down and around your waist. “Wrap your arms and legs around me.” You cling to him as he easily hoists you up, his big hands moving to palm at your ass. Your fingers toy with the hair on the back of his neck as your lips start working their way up and down his neck.
As Iwaizumi pulls the door open to a storage closet, you sink your teeth into his soft flesh, giggling softly when you hear the deep groan from his chest. He steps inside and pulls the door shut behind him. The room is tiny, consisting of a small table along one wall and shelves lining the other. Iwaizumi sets you down on the table as he reaches around, looking for the string to the overhead light.
You took this opportunity to sneak your hands under his shirt, lightly dancing your fingers up. You smile when you feel his breath hitch as your fingertips graze his nipple. “Mmm is someone a little excited?” You say as the light cuts on, temporarily blinding you. You feel Iwaizumi immediately reach for your shorts, hooking his fingers over the edge and tugging them down with your panties following shortly after. “God someone needs to teach you a lesson...So sassy all the time..” He whispers against your ear as he slots himself between your legs. He uses the tips of his fingers to tease the insides of your thighs, inching closer and closer to the growing wetness. Your teeth find your bottom lip, biting into his thick fingers move from teasing, to slowly pushing into your soaking cunt.
The slight burn as the 2 digits move further into you causes you to moan softly, opening your legs wider at your fists ball into his shirt. He slowly pumps his fingers into you, stretching and scissoring you as soft moans begin falling from your lips. His other hand leaves your side, 2 fingers going directly into your mouth. Before Iwaizumi even has a chance to say anything, you begin sucking, your tongue twisting and flicking the tips of his fingers.
His eyes flutter shut before quickly springing back open, alternating between watching his fingers disappear into your mouth and watching his fingers get sucked into your greedly little hole.
You let go of his shirt, grabbing at the waistband of his shorts and boxers. You hook your fingers into them, pushing them down just fair enough for his cock to pop out. It stood straight out, precum already starting to collect at the tip again.
“Touch it…” You bite your lip, holding back a whimper as your hand wraps around him. He feels heavy as you start to slowly move your hand up and down his length, amazed at how hard it was for your fingers to full wrap around it. His head drops onto your shoulder, one hand speeding up his thumbs moves to toy with your clit. He uses his other hand to steady himself against the table, his quiet moans and breathy sighs tickling your ear.
You begin to work your hand quicker, spreading your legs wider as you feel yourself getting closer to cumming. A louder cry erupts from you as his thumb pushes harder against your throbbing clit. He grunts, slowly his hand inside you. “No no princess...You have to be quiet. You don’t want someone to hear, especially if they happen to stop by the training room.”
You whine, looking up at him annoyed that you were so close and he had the audacity to stop.
“Why didn’t you lock the door dumbass.” You huff, his lips finding your neck and fingers slowly starting to pump into you again.
“Mmm I can’t lock the training doors while there are practices going on…” He says, wrapping his arm around your waist and pulling you to the edge of the table. You wrap your legs around him lazily, using the sleeve of your sweatshirt to wipe your face before pulling it over your head. You drop it onto the table next to you, your eyes finally zeroing in on his sex. The way his big hand sluggishly strokes up and down while lining himself up to your dripping pussy.
You lean back on your elbows, propping yourself up to watch where you two will soon be connected. “Fuck! Can you please hurry up..” You whine, wiggling your hips down, causing his tips to rub into your slick.
Iwaizumi plants one hand by your elbow, the other moving to sprawl out over the lower middle of your back. In this position, you were able to reach up, lacing your fingers into his hair and attach your lips onto his neck.
A shiver ran through his body before you felt him pushing into you, filling you to the brim..plus some. You bit into his shoulder, trying to hold in the loud groan as your walls continued to flutter around him. His head falls into your neck as your head falls back, trying to catch your breath as he gives you time to adjust.
He slowly pulls his hips back until just the tip sits inside you, before pushing himself back in. Once again, when he bottoms out his head falls into your neck.
“Fuck Princess you are so fucking tight...And you’re taking me so well..”
Your entire body shivers just hearing those words, already beginning to crave more of him.
As if reading your thoughts, Iwaizumi starts a slow but deep thrust, your plushy walls begging him to move faster. You wrap your legs around his waist, gripping his hair tighter as you bring your lips to his ear.
“I need more...I need it harder..” You beg. He takes no time to answer as his hips move from leisurely movements to a punishing pace. Your head falls back as moans fall out of you, no longer caring about how loud they are. Iwaizumi lets his head fall against your chest, now using both hands to hold your waist as he fucks into you. Gruff grunts and groans spur you on even further, having never imagined that he could make sounds like that.
You felt your slick dripping onto the table and insides of your thighs. You tighten your legs around his waist as small explosions go off around your body. Loud cries rip from your lungs as your pussy flutters and calms down around him continuously. “Hajime!” You shriek as he picks his pace up, lifting your bottom half and moving you to meet his hips. His eyes are glued to where his fat cock drives into you over and over again. His grunts and groans turn into deep gruff moans before he bites his bottom lip, closing his eyes and tilting his head back.
You feel the first spurt of cum splash inside you before the second and third completely fill you. You watch his face, the way the corners of his lips turn up slightly as he drives his hips into you harder. He slowly sets your bottom back on the table, stepping closer and pushing his softening cock deeper inside you.
He licks his lips quickly, his hand softly grabbing your chin. “Hmm how about we stay like this for a minute...Go for a round 2...Treat your knee and then maybe go grab something to eat or something…?” He says quietly, his cheeks painting themselves a soft pink. You smile, tightening your legs around him as you lean up, giving him a soft peck on the lips.
“Oh wow. Is the famous Iwaizumi asking lil ol’me on a date?” You say, slowly moving your hips back and forth against him. “I mean, this pussy IS to die for, right?” You tease, giggling as he rolls his eyes, his hands taking hold of your hips and starting a slow shallow thrust inside you.

Eight Days | Chapter Two: Anchor | Frankie “Catfish” Morales x GenderNeutral!Reader

PART ONE
You hadn’t realized the stoplight had turned green until the car behind you had honked excessively to pull you out of your thoughts. You quickly began driving again as you thought about the rest of your history with Frankie. You remembered how awkward that next morning at the motel was. Though, Frankie tried his best to keep things somewhat normal.
He had woken up a quarter to seven and decided to sneak out of the room for breakfast before you could wake up. And when you did, to an empty room, your heart felt heavy in your chest. Though, it wasn’t long before Frankie came stumbling back into the room holding a small coffee cup and a brown paper bag. When he finally noticed you were awake, he gave you a nervous look.
“Good morning,” He muttered.
You smiled weakly as he handed you the paper bag he was holding. Inside was a small bottle of orange juice and a blueberry muffin.
“Thank you, Frankie.” You told him, warmed by the gesture.
The two of you shared no other words as Frankie called the towing company and figured out something for the truck. It was almost 2PM by the time you were back on the road. The drive was silent. The only sound that could be heard was Frankie tapping on the steering wheel to the low music playing from the radio. But it wasn’t long until he had to stop for gas and coffee. He got out to pump the gas before appearing at your open window, hanging his head inside, but still giving you space.
“You want anything from inside?” He attempted to break the ice between you.
You shrugged in response.
“Are you hungry?” He asked.
“A little.” You admitted quietly.
He adjusted his cap and winced his eyes at the bright sun above him.
“I got you.” He reassured you before walking towards the small convenience store.
It must have been over five minutes later when he emerged with what looked like a bag full of snacks. You couldn’t help but let a smile come across your face as he jumped back in the truck. He rested the bag between you and smiled when he noticed you were smiling too.
“So, I didn’t know what you were in the mood for, and I figured that we’ll be out of stores reach for a couple of days, so I just kind of… got all of your favorites.” He admitted before laughing somewhat hysterically along with you.
You tried to stifle your laughter as he opened the bag and pulled out your favorite coffee, soda, energy drink, spicy chip, candy, second favorite candy, and sweet from the pastries section.
“Frankie!” You swatted his arm.
“What? I wanted to put a smile on your face!” He told you, neatly packing it all back into the bag.
“Wait! I want the coffee!” You admitted, making grabby hands in the direction of the bag that was out of your reach from where you were leaning against the door.
He happily pulled it out of the bag and held it out for you to take, but your fingers happened to graze each other as your eyes met. You quickly grabbed the coffee and redirected your gaze, thanking him. He nodded awkwardly before climbing out of the truck to finish pumping the gas before getting back on the road once again. It was a while before either of you spoke.
“If you’re hungry for real food, there’s a diner about forty miles from here, unless you’d rather wait for dinner tonight at camp.”
“And eat Ben’s cooking? I don’t think so.” You joked.
Frankie’s laugh filled your ears.
“For once, I think you’re right.” He told you.
You shot him a glare only to be met with a wink.
-
As you walked up to the diner, Frankie walked ahead of you and opened the door for you. You could feel your cheeks heat up at the sentiment.
“Thank you.” You smiled.
The two of you were quickly seated at a small corner booth, up against a window that allowed a view of the mountains surrounding you. There was a silence between the two of you as you looked over the menus.
“So, uhm, what are you thinking of getting?” You finally spoke.
His eyes continued to scan the menu as he replied, “I’m not sure. There’s so much coffee in my system, I’m not all that hungry.”
“Yeah.” You nodded quietly.
“Do you want to share something?” You questioned.
“Sure! Yeah. Waffles…?” He questioned back, knowing they were your favorite.
You smiled.
“With strawberries…?” You smirked.
He laughed heartily as he closed the menu.
“Of course! I would never expect anything less.” He smiled at you.
When the young waitress came to take your orders, Frankie ordered for the two of you, getting an ice water for himself and confidently guessing that you wanted another orange juice this morning, to which you laughed. He was always right. But after the waitress walked away, you felt like you had to be the one to bring up the night before.
“Frankie, can we talk about last night?”
“Y/N...Please” He pleaded, letting his fall forward into his hands.
“Frankie! You can’t ignore what I said.” You attempted, trying to keep your voice low in the quiet diner.
“I’m not ignoring you, Y/N!” He removed his hat again and ran his hand through his hair.
“Then what? You just don’t want me to love you? You don’t love me back? Which one is it, Frankie!?” You cried.
He threw his hat down on the table and rubbed his temple angrily.
“Damn it, Y/N! I’m afraid that if I let myself believe what you said, I’ll just end up getting hurt!” He raised his voice.
The few people who were seated around you looked at you judgmentally, so he lowered his voice for what he had to say next.
“I’m afraid- If I let myself love you, you’ll realize that you deserve better than me. You’ll- you’ll realize that and then you’ll leave me. I can’t lose you, Y/N. You mean too much to me.” He cried, his voice wavering.
You rested your hand in his that was between the two of you on the table.
“Frankie…”
Before you could continue, the waitress returned with your drinks. Frankie quickly wiped his tears on his shirtsleeve and thanked her.
“Just- forget it. We’ll talk about it later.” He promised.
You knew there wasn’t going to be any talking about it “later”.
-
“Fish! Y/N! About damn time you two showed up!” Benny cheered as he wrapped his arms around the both of you.
You were both hoping deep down that none of the guys noticed the tension between you.
“Y/N!” Pope shouted from his seat around the campfire. He jumped up and wrapped his arms around you, lifting you up and spinning you around.
Deep down, it killed Frankie to see Pope treat you like that. He knew you deserved it, but he wanted to be the one to give it to you.
“Come sit down guys! Grab a beer!” Will invited as he threw a new log into the growing fire.
-
The sun was setting and dinner had come and gone, and now the boys were being their usual rowdy selves as they filled their bodies with beer.
“Hey! Y/N! You okay over there? You’re being awful quiet tonight. You’ve barely touched your beer.” Pope pointed out.
Pressure rose in your chest as all the guys brought their attention to you, concerned. You could only manage to meet eyes with Frankie.
“I’m alright, my stomach is just being weird. I think I’m gonna head to bed, actually.” You said, standing up.
“No!” The guys pouted.
“I’m sorry, guys. I promise I’ll be more lively tomorrow.” You joked.
They all waved you off and you began the short walk to your tent. Pope of course had forgotten one of the tents, so you were forced to share one with Frankie, just your luck. The only reason Pope refused to share one was because he demanded a tent for himself since he needed the most room. You didn’t dare to question it.
You were almost to your tent when you heard a branch snap behind you. You turned around quickly, in fear,  to be met with Frankie running right into you.
“Fuck! Jesus Christ, Frankie! Are you trying to kill me?” You whisper-shouted, not wanting to wake any other campers nearby.
“Sorry. I just came to see if you were okay. Will you be alright in the tent by yourself? I can come with you.”
“No, Frankie. I just want to be alone. Just please- leave me alone, okay?” You pleaded before walking off.
Frankie removed his hat and ran his hand through his hair, he was lost without you. He’d lost you in less than a day. It was all his fault.
“Fish! You alright?” Pope shouted, clearly not caring for his volume.
“Yeah!” He said, walking back towards the group.
“Fuck this.” He muttered to himself.
-
“Hey, Fish? Why not slow down a little, yeah?” Benny suggested.
Frankie had downed over six beers in under two hours. He’d also smoked the majority of a blunt that was getting passed around the circle. Needless to say, he was gone for the night. He thought maybe it was better that way.
-
“Pope? Pope! Hey, man. Dime algo/Tell me something… If Y/N has feelings for me, why wait until now to tell me, huh? It’s been almost eight years! I’ve waited eight years for them! And now… no se/I don’t know, Pope. What am I supposed to do?” Frankie whined, louder than Pope thought was necessary.
“Fish, hey man, quiet down. They’ll hear you if you talk too loud.” Pope tried to warn him.
“I don’t care, man! I just want them to know how much they mean to me. They’ve been my god damn anchor since they came into our lives. Everything I do, I do for them. I’m clean because of them, Pope. There’s no one like them. There’s no one fucking like them and I probably just lost them for good.” Frankie threw his beer can into the fire, igniting it even more.
“Woah, hey! None of that, okay? They told you they love you, man. It’s up to you to let yourself be happy and get the love you deserve.” He reassured him, a hand on his shoulder.
“But-” Frankie tried.
“No buts, okay? You’re cut off for the night. Go get some rest and tomorrow you can talk to them, when you’re sober.” He told him, standing up and offering him a hand.
He took his hand and followed as he led him to his shared tent with you.
“Alright now, be quiet. Don’t wake Y/N, okay?” Pope asked.
Frankie nodded and turned to the tent before Pope called for his attention again.
“Cuidate, hermano./Take care of yourself, brother.” He reminded him with a small smile.
Frankie returned the smile and brought him in for a hug.
Thank god he hadn’t gotten fucked up alone.
Once he shuffled into the tent and out of his day clothes, he made his way into the sleeping bag laid next to yours. He laid on his back and looked up at the peak of the tent, wondering what you were dreaming about.
“Y/N… I’m sorry. I’m sorry for not believing you, for not believing that you really love me. I just- you’re too good for me, you know? You deserve someone good. You deserve someone who doesn’t wait eight years to tell you they love you…” He stopped, hearing you shuffle.
Before he knew it, you were facing him, with your hands cupping his cheeks lightly.
“Y/N…You- you weren’t supposed to-”
Your lips crashed onto his before he had a chance to finish. You’d waited years to hear him say those words. And it seemed like minutes before you could pull away to finally meet his eyes again.
“I love you too, Frankie.”

Goodbye Kodi
This is one of the most difficult posts I’ve ever had to write. It’s been just over 9 years since I lost my cat, Pumpkin, who I grew up with. My parents put down the family dog just before Christmas in 2015. And now 5 years later, I had to unexpectedly say goodbye to my baby, Kodi.
This past Friday morning at 8am I dropped Kodi off for a dental cleaning - the second one he’s had with this vet. I’d had anxiety about it for a couple days leading up to it, but for the most part I was worried about giving Kodi the pain meds that follow. Justin had a bad feeling that morning and kept checking in with me for status updates, so in general we somehow knew something was going to go wrong. They did all the standard pre-op exam and labwork, and nothing looked out of the ordinary. During the dental, the vet had cleaned one side of his mouth and started the process of removing 2 of his teeth when they noticed a significant heart murmur that had not been heard before. The took him off anesthesia immediately but his heart continued to deteriorate. The vet said he went and they gave him 4 rounds of epinephrine, 3 directly to his heart to try and bring him back but nothing worked. I received the call just after noon that he was gone. I’ll never forget the sound of the vet’s voice as he said “I have really hard news, we lost Kodi.”
I called Justin immediately after, and we both took the rest of the day off and waited for a call from the vet so we could go say goodbye. We returned to the vet office around 2pm where we were let inside a small room. The vet who had been performing the dental talked with us about what had happened, then a tech brought out his body for us to hold one last time and say goodbye.
On Sunday, the practice owner called us to discuss what had happened. He thinks Kodi had undiagnosed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a type of heart disease common in cats, and especially male cats. It’s genetic, and most often caught due to a heart murmur or other apparent symptoms, none of which Kodi had. I still catch myself thinking I never should have scheduled the dental, even though I know it was the right thing to do. I also know that the vets did everything they could do for him. We at least know that he was under the effects of anesthesia when he passed so he was never in any pain.
I adopted Kodi at just a few months old in July 2013. He was 3 pounds of fluff and stretch out across my lap with ease. He eventually grew into the 14 pound lovable boy who had to settle with laying next to me most of the time because my lap just wasn’t big enough for him.
He was the sweetest thing who begged around dinner time a little bit, but mostly he just liked to stare at me. Judging. Because how dare I not have gotten up to feed him yet. But mostly he understood “no” meant to back off from my food, and had very little interest in people food to begin with.
He loved when I bought the leash out because he knew it meant he would get to go outside for a bit and enjoy the grass, or hunt small critters. We spoiled him with more and more toys, but he always went back to his favorite plastic jingle balls that he loved to play fetch with. Though crumpled paper did the job too, if he was bored.
Kodi was skittish of people for a while, but recently he’d opened up more and actually ended up being the more social one when we had people visit. He was such a mama’s boy and cuddlebug, and absolutely had to sleep above my head every night. He knew that when my pillow was placed flat, it was time for sleep and that was his spot. Yet he also loved to sunbathe in the window, and sleeping on the pillow nearby, or the pillow on Justin’s side of the room, or lounging in the hallway.
He didn’t always get along with Eevee, but I know they enjoyed each other’s company at times, and they did love to play tag almost every night. Until she would get too rough, he loved chasing her and being chased around the apartment.
He gave kisses every day and would purr immediately from the slightest touch, or even the promise of a touch. He was vicious when you pushed his limits, but only to me. He somehow knew that it was okay with me, but other people were off limits for scratching and biting. On the whole though, Kodi was so full of love, and would make circles to come back for pets, stretching in between each lap, throwing himself at you for head rubs or butt paps.
The night before his dental cleaning, Kodi cuddled with me on the couch for a couple of hours and I am so glad I had that time to just enjoy his company one last time. People always say animals know more than we do, and I don’t know if that’s the case here, but I am so grateful to him for giving me that time to look back on.
He had his issues like all pets will, and his quirks, and his adorable qualities. He took some time for Justin to warm up to, but in the end he was so loved by both of us that we still can’t really believe he’s gone.
We picked up his ashes today from the vet. They charged us for a portion of his dental and the epinephrine, but did cover the cost of a private cremation for him. Kodi is the first pet I’ve had cremated, since we buried Pumpkin in my parents’ yard. I didn’t know what to expect, so I was surprised with how heavy the box was (but then he was 14 pounds). The vet also took an impression of his paws in clay, and clipped some of his fur which they gave to us in a small plastic bag. We also received a small cat figure from Chewy.com today, after I removed Kodi from my account and wrote what had happened.
The outpouring of love from our friends and family has been incredible. No one truly feels the loss that we do, but I know many are pet parents themselves and understand what we’re going through.
There’s still so much I could say, but I’ll leave it here for now. I’ve had a few days at this point to grieve, and start to accept that he’s really gone. It’s still hard, and we feel his absence at every meal, every night when we go to sleep, every morning that he’s not waking us up to play. He was truly a special cat and was so loved. We’ll miss you Kodi. Thank you for being a good boy.

Cali; the salsa capital
Stop #10, February 11-17
We landed in Cali late Tuesday night and got to our hostel, The Pelican Larry. Our “private bedroom” was awkwardly filled with one queen bed and two sets of bunk beds… and a bunch of skeeters!
Wednesday we walked around, ate a delish vegetarian lunch, and attempted to go to the river to cool down. After traveling about 45 minutes by bus, we waited for next one we needed to take, but it never showed. There’s a chance this bus only ran on Saturday’s but honestly we weren’t too sure. It was already 4pm by the time we decided to turn around, since we were warned to leave the river by 5 for safety. Even though our plans for the day totally failed, I still thought the bus system here is actually pretty impressive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back at the hostel other travelers, including 3 German girls traveling on their gap year, invited us to visit Cristo Rey to watch the sunset. We ended up being a group of 8, taking two cabs to get there. We enjoyed the views and the sunset, then Sean, myself and two others went for a vegan dinner in town that was cheap and yummy.
Tumblr media
That night several of us played games at the hostel around a big table and eventually got ready to go out for salsa. We went to La Topa Tolondra, a famous salsa club. I thought I knew some salsa from when I traveled in Peru but Cali salsa is so different!!! I knew almost nothing of the dance moves. Cali is known for salsa and their nightlife so even though Sean and I are early birds, I did my best to embrace this. Sean wasn’t thrilled to go out, especially for salsa, but he came for me.
Tumblr media
The next day we slept in late missing the free (and basic) breakfast by the hostel. I spent all day working on some applications for jobs while Sean did Duolingo for hours. I didn’t know it until later but he was very determined to exceed my XP. Only duolingo-ers will understand that reference (Sue gets it)! The rest of the day was spent working on extending our travel visa and participating in an interview to volunteer at the spanish school we went to when we first arrived in Colombia. In the evening I joined the free intro to Cali Salsa dance class offered by the hostel. It was actually pretty fun, and a nice way to meet other travels too. And after learning all the basic steps, of course I wanted to go ahead and practice what I learned!
Later that night many of us went out again, and since I felt safe to go with this group of people Sean stayed back since it was not interesting to him. The salsa bar we went to this night was called Tintindeo and was so much fun! I enjoyed it much more than the other salsa club because it felt more like a bar you could hang out in and also dance salsa with a lot less intimidation. The salsa club from the previous night was slightly awkward in that you were either dancing salsa or awkwardly watching along the side lines. Tintindeo has fun lights, and all of the salsa teachers were there (probably to encourage people to purchase private salsa lessons with them) and they were amazing to dance with! Of course they know you are learning, but some are better than others in leading and two of the teachers in particular made me feel like I knew what the hell I was doing!! By the end of the night I was super sweaty; I knew I had tried my best!
Around 1 am the bar came to a close and the group I was with wanted to head to a raggaeton club nearby. Since it was considerably early I went along, but when I got there I felt like it was sketchy and the best of the night was behind us. I’ve learned that usually “the next place” is never as good as the first when the first one was a blast. So why stay out? I decided to leave, and so a friend put me in a cab to assure I’d get back safe. During the ride I followed the blue dot on my phone on google maps to ensure the driver was taking me to the right place. All was good, and even though Sean locked me out of the room on accident, the 24 hour host was able to let me in.
There had been a lot of talk about ELN, a guerrilla group still remaining in Colombia, engaging in a violent protest from Friday - Sunday, February 14-16. Talk was that the cities were safe, but the small towns outside the city were not. We heard of tourists being told not to take busses between cities for their own safety. Afraid of this threat, we decided to extend our initial 3 day visit to Cali into a 6 day visit. We changed hostels on Friday and stayed until Monday morning, when it was reportedly safe to travel again.
This next hostel, Green House, was very quiet and relaxed. There were only 3 other tourists staying, 2 of them being Israeli’s on their gap year after the army. I love meeting Israeli’s because I feel like I have so much to talk about with them; being jewish, my family in Israel, and having visited the country many times. Usually when I travel to Central or South AmericaI meet many Israeli’s, but being there for 2 months at this point, these two were the first ones we met!
After attempting to cook some version of the delicious lentil patties we’ve been eating (total fail btw) we got ready to go out to experience another club, this time not for Salsa. After reading a lot about Cali I understand now that their nightlife really is the main attraction of visiting Cali, and so this would be my 3rd night in a row going out! Sean was being a trooper and coming along with me. I had hoped the lack of salsa would make it more interesting for him.
I had a few drinks with the Israeli’s while we talked a bunch. Sean didn’t feel like joining the conversation even though I tried to include him time and time again, as did the two Israeli’s, he didn’t budge. Sometimes it’s hard because I absolutely love socializing (when I actually like the people), and traveling as a couple makes it slightly harder to socialize than when I had traveled alone in the past. Anyway, Sean and I eventually went out to La Pergola which had a $20.000 cover (about $6). Even though this is quite expensive, we weren’t buying drinks there and were really going for the experience. As we approached the club in our cab we could hear the music from down the street. There was a long line to get in that moved surprisingly quickly. The club was huge and completely open having great views of the surrounding city. There were 3 floors playing different types of music, and really was a sight to see. It was especially fun when a very popular latin song came on and everyone in the club sang it together. We stayed until 1am before hopping into a cab back to the hostel.
The rest of the weekend, we spent our time just hanging out trying to avoid the serious heat of this place. By 1pm it gets so hot, all you can think about is swimming. By 2pm we left for a cab to Acuaparque de la Cana to spend the late afternoon in a children/family water park. We felt like teenagers having fun on all the watersides, walking around in our swim suits, eagerly checking out the next fun thing to do. One of Sean’s favorite was the zip line where you hung (together) on a bar that zip lines above a pool. You have to let go before it reaches the end plopping you right into the water! We did this one several times throughout the day.
Tumblr media
We did other rides as well including a high and long waterslide. Sean and I went on a slide, side by side, and my slide gave me a huge wedgie just before it shot me into the pool. Sean loved that one too, but I could not handle that level of discomfort again and so I chose to pass on repeating it. Another fun one was the toilet bowl (or at least that’s what we called it when we visited waterparks at camp)! We rented a two person tube that shot us through a tube spitting you out into a “bowl” that you flung around and around until you made it to the bottom. That one was super fun :) The last ride of the day for us was the wave pool, since it was 5pm and everything else was closing. It was fun and enjoyable until Sean realized how dirty the pool was and how much hair was in the water (LOL).
Our last day in Cali we waited for the heat to pass before heading out for a bite and some walking around. We walked through the [very strange] cat statues, as well as a lovely park for people watching. Our time in Cali was fun, but now it’s time to leave (hopefully to somewhere less hot)!

MY TRAVEL BUDDY
We just went for a swim last April17, 2008 at Water Camp, Kawit Cavite with my family. Water Camp is one of the few decent swimming resorts in Cavite at an affordable price. Entrance fee is P180 for adults and children 1 year old and above. There were available huts, tables, rooms and villas the cheapest is P300 for a table for 6 at the food court. There were also a playground for the children to enjoy and not very far is the Fisherman's Wharf where you can fish, play billiards, sing karaoke or just plain relax. The pools in itself are impressive, it boasts of a kiddie pool where children can swim and play at the same time with its mini-playground it's really cute! The adult pool is on the other side where adults can swim on a deeper pool although it's deepest is only 5ft! Another pool is set with 2 slides, one I think is for the children while the other one is for the adults. Now on to my favorite which is the lazy river! You can relax there by being carried around by the river-like water current of the lazy river, acording Kiddie Poolto it's website there's floaters available free of charge but we didn't find any. Maybe there just wasn't enough coz when we went there, there are a number of people already there. All in all we really enjoyed our stay there! What's more cool is that it's very near, you can go there via public transportation it's one ride from SM Bacoor, travel time I think is 20 minutes. Been to Water Camp after my last post here a number of times, and they increased their rates now to P240! We went there again last Jul23, 2011 and was surprised to see that they added a feature which is the Wave Pool! So that's why they increased their rates! Well, that's not really a problem coz we really enjoyed the wave pool! The wave pool motor however only operates within 15minutes interval so if you somehow already enjoys the wave and all of a sudden the wave stops, it's because the motor has to rest for 15minutes 😊 Will definitely go back there again.. this resort is one of my highly recommend resorts here in Cavite! Pool Video For those who are commenting for the 2 slidesrates/entrance of the pool/rooms, I am no way connected to Water Camp but it was really easy to know that, just visit their site and all you need to know are there already, it's in here: Water Camp Resort
Me and my sister decided abruptly one Monday morning to check in at Island Cove coz we can't stand the heat of the summer that we were experiencing at that time. So we called Island Cove to make a reservation and luckily there were available rooms eventhough we didn't reserved in advance. We reserved their Hotel Deluxe room which is a 2 Queen Sized beds with veranda and a bath tub for I think around P3000 for an overnight stay. After reserving, we together with family immediately packed our bags and hired a taxi to get us there. We just checked in at the right time coz we arrived there a little over 2pm so we just put our bags in our room and took a quick nap then we decided to get a look at their zoo called the Zootique. We waited for the free ride from the hotel that will take us to the zoo and it quickly arrived. I was disappointed just by the sight of the poor animals at the zoo. As I saw it, it looks like they were not really taken cared of. I don't know if it was just the effects of El Niño at that time but they looked like they really needed water to drink coz they look exhausted. And I really don't understand why we were still charged with an entrance at the zoo when there were really nothing much to see. Then we had our picture taken with the little crocodile and there was a fee for it! We went at the Butterfly and Aviary House but we didn't saw a single live butterfly! Yeah, we saw a butterfly… a plastic one! So I must say that it was not worth seeing Island Cove's zoo at all!
Well after seeing the zoo, we went at Fishing Village to eat our merienda and I nearly had a heart attack with the prices on the menu! I thought with the prices like that, they might give a big serving on each of the dish, but I was wrong. We ordered pancit canton worth P200, we were four but it turned out only 2 persons can it coz of its very small serving. Then we also ordered a P120 special halu-halo but there really was nothing special about it, Chowking's halu-halo was even better and it only cost around P70 or less. Since we really want our kids to enjoy our stay, we were still looking forward to use their swimming pool and with this one I must say that we all enjoyed it! Oceania Water Park is really big, and at that time we were the only ones who used the pool(well almost since we saw 2 or 3 guys by the pool and after awhile they disappeared). Its slides were really huge but I didn't get to try it coz I didn't saw any lifeguards and I thought what if something happens to me? We also enjoyed the jacuzzi at the pool, we all cuddled up there and my daughter enjoyed the bubbles. So overall I really liked our swimming experience there! Come nighttime, we just ordered room service for our dinner and settled down for the night. Then in the morning, after we ate our breakfast, this time we used the hotel's swimming pool which is much smaller than the Oceania. As usual the kids go crazy again and didn't want to leave. After swimming, we just stayed on our hotel room until it was time to prepare for check-out. We checked out at and we were picked up by our taxi driver from yesterday. Overall, we all had a good time coz the kids really enjoyed the pool and it was nice to unwind once in awhile and forget the stress at work or problems at home.
Our family decided one Saturday morning to go to the Luneta Park(or Rizal Park) to have a picnic and eat our lunch there. Going there, we kinda lost somewhere coz we couldn’t find the parking lot. Well, anyways, we found it eventually and selected one of the many vacant place so we could prepare our food. While my companions prepared our food, we took some pictures and frankly there’s nothing much to see except some people who are there also doing nothing. While we were eating, someone approached us and said that if we could give him our leftover food after we finished eating. We were a little bit uncomfortable after that, coz he kept on watching us while we ate and soon he was joined by I guess, his wife and kid and we hurriedly finished eating and gave our food to them. We quickly strolled the park and took pictures of Jose Rizal statue, so that I could post it here..haha! but after that, my mother asked us if we could leave the place immediately coz there’s really nothing more to do. I guess if you could spare a little time here, you could do so  if you plan to stay here a little longer then it’s up to you. I think, I ‘m not going back there anytime soon.

How to Stop Stress Eating: 3 Uncommon Tools for Ending Emotional Eating
All of us have plenty of stress in our lives.
After the last year we’ve had, your stress level may have quadrupled.
If you find yourself responding by “stress eating,” know that you are not alone.
One of the top issues faced by clients in our 1-on-1 Online Coaching Program is emotional or stress eating. After 2020 being all 2020 like (and 2021 having its own challenges), these episodes have only increased.
You’re not alone in this. Learn how a Nerd Fitness Coach can help.
Today, we’re going to show you exactly how we address emotional eating with our clients, including when it’s – GASP – actually okay to stress eat.
Here’s what we’ll cover in today’s guide:
What is stress eating? (a video from NF Kitchen)
What causes stress eating? (Lesson #1: Playing Detective)
How do I stop mindless eating? (Lesson #2: The Stress Response Menu)
How common is stress eating? (Lesson #3: Learning Self-Compassion)
Is it ever okay to stress eat? (Next steps)
Let’s jump right in.
What Is Stress Eating? (A Video from NF Kitchen)
youtube
The above video from Coach Justin comes from the Nerd Fitness Prime “Mindset” video series.
Justin covers three important lessons I want to highlight, but before we do that, we should ask ourselves a question:
“What exactly is stress eating?”
Stress eating is consuming food in response to negative emotions like fear, anger, or sadness.
When we stress eat, food is being used to solve a problem. Now, unless we’re actually hungry, it’s likely a problem that food itself isn’t meant to solve.
That’s stress or emotional eating.
Here’s what compounds the whole problem: stress eating itself can make us feel guilty. We often feel terrible once our spoon hits the bottom of the pint of ice cream.
This can drive more negative emotions, which can trigger even more stress eating.
And the pattern continues.
We’ll talk about ways to break this cycle in a moment, but before we do, we need to create some tools to identify it in the first place.
What Causes Stress Eating? (Lesson #1: Playing Detective)
You may have been surprised in our video above when Coach Justin gives permission to  stress eat.
Counterintuitive and seemingly counterproductive, I know. But this is going to be important for two reasons.
How to Approach Stress Eating Step #1: we need to curb the guilty feelings about stress or emotional eating.
I started this guide off by highlighting the frequency of stress eating amongst our Online Coaching clients.
You are not the only one struggling with this.
Most humans do.
And robots with human-like emotions and taste buds
We’ll come back to this idea again, because ending the shame of emotional eating will be critical for moving forward.
How to Approach Stress Eating Step #1: allowing ourselves to stress eat will help us learn why we do it.
We’re going to be playing detective here, to see if we can piece apart your actions and routines.
At the end of the day, our lives are a cumulation of habits. Stress eating is one such habit.
So let’s learn about it!
To do so, we’re gonna need to record some Emotional Eating Notes.
During an episode of stress eating, it’s important to ask ourselves:
What am I doing?
What am I feeling? (Both physically and emotionally)
What am I thinking about?
What time is it?
Where am I?
Who am I with?
Ideally, we’ll start to ask yourself these questions:
An hour or two before the eating episode
Right before it
During it
Right after it
The purpose of these Emotional Eating Notes?
To look for patterns!
Perhaps you’ll notice some of the following:
“After my recent Tuesday morning conference call, when I got grilled by my company’s leadership, I grabbed some chocolate chip cookies. This happened the week before too.”
“Around 2pm, when I get the ‘afternoon slumps,’ I normally grab a Coca-Cola. This little boost gets me through the end of the day. This is almost a daily practice.”
“Last Sunday evening, when thinking about the start of the workweek, I had a couple glasses of wine. When looking back at my notes, this takes place at the end of most weekends.”
We’re looking for patterns to help us understand what drives our stress eating.
The most important thing about this process: withholding judgment.
We’re looking at our notes for clues into our psyche. Whatever we captured is okay.
If you order pizza every Thursday after talking with your overbearing mom (of course, she means well), step one is to recognize it.
Oftentimes, this awareness step alone can help shift behavior. “Oh, I’m reaching for a beer like I normally do after ending my workday. Typical Me.”
After creating some notes on what spurs our emotional eating, it’s time to think about some alternatives for coping with stress.
How Do I Stop Mindless Eating? (Lesson #2: The Stress Response Menu)
After documenting what sets off our stress eating, we need to formulate a plan on what to do when our anxiety rises.
That means it’s time to build…a Stress Response Menu!
Our Stress Response Menu will be a list of actions or activities you can do to de-stress outside of eating.
Ideally, you’ll do them before an eating episode, but they can be done during or after the fact too.
In other words, if you only realized you were stress eating when your hand reaches the bottom of the Doritos bag, no problem, you can do your stress response activity right then.
The purpose of the Stress Response Menu is to reward yourself with a small moment of self-love, whenever your anxiety levels are too much.
Here are some ideas for activities to place on your Stress Response Menu:
Close your eyes and take five deep breaths (Coach Justin’s go-to move)
Drink a large glass of water
Take a short walk
Go listen to one of your favorite songs
Do a quick stretching routine
Write in your journal
Play with your dog
Shout at the sky
The more the activity from your Stress Response Menu can match your personal goals, the better.
In other words, if you’re trying to build muscle, some push-ups might be the perfect de-stresser.
Just make sure it’s something you won’t dread doing.
A combination of a “de-stressor” and a “reward.”
This is important, as Coach Justin mentions that many of his clients only reward themselves with food. The self-love they practice only takes place in the kitchen.
Our menu above will help us develop some more options, not solely based on food.
To make the most of your Stress Response Menu:
#1) Make the activities short and easy.
You should feel confident that you can do every item on your list. So avoid activities that will take longer than 10 minutes to complete.
Also, set yourself up for success by hacking your Batcave:
If you’re going to journal when stressed, keep your diary open on your work desk.
If you’re going to drink water before any emotional eating, keep your full glass  near you.
If you’re going to take a short walk, keep your kicks near the door.
Don’t set yourself up for failure by picking overly complicated or burdensome activities.
#2) Place your Stress Response Menu somewhere visible.
Once you make your list, print it out and place it in your kitchen or pantry (or wherever you typically stress eat).
You could also write out a couple of your favorite activities and attach them to your refrigerator.
If it’s right in front of you, it’ll be harder to ignore (however, it’s okay to ignore it from time to time, as we aren’t striving for perfection).
Just please don’t write it and then stick the list in the junk drawer that opens to another dimension.
You never can find anything in that drawer.
#3)Track your usage of the Stress Response Menu.
This will help us in two ways:
First, by tracking your usage, you’ll start to feel better about using the SRM. You’ll see an accumulation of all the times you successfully deployed a stress response, helping you visualize the momentum you’re building.
Second, the data will help you understand your patterns of emotional eating. Maybe five deep breaths steered you away from ice cream but the large glass of water did not. You can then use this information to update and revise your response plan.
For the first point, Coach Justin has his clients keep a “Jar of Awesome.”
Every time they have a small win in the day, like taking five deep breaths instead of chugging soda, they place a marble or small token in a jar. After a while, the jar will have a decent amount of marbles or “small wins” in it.
This will then stand as a visual reminder of all the progress being made, proof of their ongoing wins.
Want to start a “Jar of Awesome” with a NF Coach? Learn more here!
How Common Is Stress Eating? (Lesson #3: Learning Self-Compassion)
The American Psychological Association has found that about a third of Americans respond to stress with food.[1]
This research was done BEFORE our global pandemic.
So if you find yourself binging in response to the stress of our global pandemic, know that you are not alone here.
Our coaching clients, and the NF Coaches themselves, have all found themselves turning to food and alcohol for comfort during quarantine.
Heck, recently I mindlessly devoured an entire tub of Animal Crackers too. It was only when the bag was gone did I understand what just happened.
Many of us, even fitness “experts,” are prone to stress eating.
Now, don’t take this as a free pass to stress eat.
If the behavior goes against your goals, it’s something we want to work towards improving.
But there’s a reason they call it “comfort food.” Food can often be used to make us happier, pandemic or no pandemic.
And we’re all emotional bags of meat of this floating hunk of space rock, and we’re doing the best we can.
So give yourself a bit of a break, my friend.
You’re here, you’re reading, and you’re trying. That’s great!
This will bring me to my last point with our handy guide:
Is It Okay to Stress Eat? (Next Steps)
There are times when food is the perfect response to stress.
It’s something Coach Justin mentions in his video.
“Stress eating” might be appropriate if:
After a long workday, a glass of wine with cheese helps you unwind.
To celebrate the coming of the weekend, you have an ice cream party on Friday night.
The week already seems long, and it just started, “Taco Tuesday” might help you survive until Friday.
The important thing here?
“We are making a choice.”
We are choosing to deal with stress or anxiety with food. By making it an intentional activity, we can remove the guilt around emotional eating.
Food can be fine as a reward, as long as it’s us controlling the behavior, and not the food itself.
In addition, if we can recognize the action (or plan for it), we can then adjust our calories before and after and not go off the rails.
(You can calculate your recommended total daily calorie intake here, by the way!)
If it seems like you aren’t quite there yet, start with your Emotional Eating Notes and your Stress Response Menu.
Even just the process of taking notes on specific episodes of stress eating may be enough to slow down the behavior.
Remember, no matter what happens:
You are not a bad person if you stress eat.
You are not a bad person if you forget to take notes.
You are not a bad person if you ignore your Stress Response Menu.
You are not a bad person (unless you’re a Death Eater, but come on, you know what side you’re on).

TGIWednesday News
We saw Elton John this past Monday night in Tampa Florida on his farewell tour.  What a treat.  Honestly I grew up on his music as most of us did.  I think 100 years from now it will be playing in elevators!  He played for 3 hours.  You read that right!  He is arguably the most famous/singer/songwriter/composer of our time.    One of my favorite stories about him was how tough and distant his mom was (think mean ugh) and for an 11 year span he didn’t talk to her.  This is a man known the world over as a humanitarian  and honored by the Queen, now married with two kids.  Seemingly he has it all. Before his mom passed he had lunch with her and told her numerous times how he loved her and enjoyed their time together and she said, “Well you know I don’t approve of who you are and what all that you’ve become.” Most of us would want to dagger ourselves after sticking her first!  Sir Elton John said, “I know mom, that’s ok... I love you.”

Q&A WITH JIMMY MACK Q) "I just purchased the Optimizing Success in Sales mp3.  I want to thank you for the work you're doing as it really speaks to me in its simplicity and completeness, if that makes sense. My question is, I don't actually feel any physical pulls or sways when doing the liquid fish or when I listen to the mp3s. When listening to the latest one I bought, I felt deep anxiety, got knots in my stomach, and goosebumps as you were speaking my fears of sales out loud, but I didn't feel anything that would indicate I was releasing them. Would you say this is indicative of the need to have a personal session? Or is there anything I can do to clear myself?  I do have a 15 min session booked with you but was wondering if there's more I could do until then." - H.H.  A) "Yes please know that it is working for you..... regardless of whether you're moving or not, we'll go over that when we have a live session when you will be hydrated and standing facing North which is optimal for feeling the pulls.  I would encourage you to subscribe to my YouTube and watch some of those videos too." - Jimmy

TGIWednesday and life lessons with Elton John
Tumblr media

Tips for OTs Eating Lunch on the Go
I hate making my lunch.
Perhaps I’m burned out after almost 13 years of folding lunch meat into bread through grade school and high school?
Now as home health occupational therapist, there is a small, wise voice in me that challenges me to explore the health and financial benefits of taking ownership of that perviously begrudged task... of my own “simple meal prep.”
It's sometime between 11am and 2pm and I, like many other home health workers, am sitting in my car, feeling a bit guilty about buying a fast food lunch... again.
I wonder if it's really possible to make a lunch that can be both nutritious and delicious, that requires no microwave AND that would not make a huge mess to assemble in my car.
Enter Steph Bell, an entrepreneur and Health and Fitness Coach from Omaha, NE, with her expert insights as I pose my honest questions.
Monika: What are at least 3 lunch ideas for OTs who are on the go?
Steph: Stamina, baby. That’s what these lunches are all about. It is vital as an occupational to ensure you have mental clarity and physical energy to provide the best care for your patients.
Mid-afternoon slumps cannot be on the menu.
1. Wraps.
It’s food wrapped in an edible blanket—what could be better?! Start with your wrap; collard greens or a sprouted grain tortilla such as the Ezekiel brand are great choices. Then, get creative and have fun playing with your food.
You might try one of these options:
BLT wrap (nitrate-free bacon, arugula, tomatoes and guacamole)
Greek wrap (shredded chicken breast, kalamata olives, cucumbers, hummus, tomatoes, red onion and feta cheese).
Possibilities are endlessly tasty and if you make it fresh in the morning, the wrap won’t be soggy from the guacamole or hummus. Serve with a side of fruit or extra veggies.
2.   Salads.
Fill a large container with the following:
2 handfuls of greens (spinach, arugula, kale, whatever your inner green god or goddess chooses),
a handful of chopped veggies (carrots, tomatoes, bell peppers, broccoli),
some fruit (strawberries, blueberries, pomegranate seeds)
a palm-sized piece of protein (chicken, salmon, hard boiled eggs),
and a thumb-length of fat (olives, goat or feta cheese, walnuts, sunflower seeds).
In a separate container place salsa, 2 tsp red pepper-infused olive oil or homemade dressing to spice up your salad.
3.   Soup.
Fill your thermos with chili, beef stew or Mexican chicken soup and pack a side of chopped veggies such as carrots, celery or bell peppers and ¼ cup of hummus.
Monika: What, if any, types of supplies might you recommend for transporting the lunch and keeping it hot or cool?
Steph: Practically speaking, here's the supplies I recommend:
a water bottle
a lunch tote
various sized glass storage containers with lids (such as Pyrex)
eating utensils
an insulated thermos
a napkin
Note: Practical does not mean boring—get funky and have fun with these items because it adds to the enjoyment of eating! I use a custom-designed insulated lunch tote my sister-in-law gave me from the company thirty-one and a bright blue glass drinking bottle. Instant happiness.
Monika: Often times, a home health worker eats solo due to being in different locations and on the road every day.  What, if any, tips do you have for making the solo meal enjoyable vs. lonely?
Steph: It’s all about mindset. You make the choice to enjoy this quiet time or not. Choose to view this time as an opportunity to do what you love completely uninterrupted.
Do you enjoy listening to podcasts or books? Great, pop in your earbuds, enjoy your food and listen away.
Or maybe you can’t wait to bust out the June issue of your favorite magazine.
Or maybe it is the perfect day to sit outdoors, breath fresh air, soak up the sun and view the beauty around you.
Think of things you like to do alone and how you can incorporate it into your lunchtime. And just as you choose to enjoy the quiet time, choose to relish the meals and activities you are able to share with others when you are not at work. Isn’t life grand?
Bonus Question
Monika: What are at least 3 exercises that are good to do when stepping out of the car or on a lunch break? And why?
Steph: No need to preach to the choir that movement is key to our health—stress relief, increased energy, better mood… the list goes on and on. The better you care for your own health, the better you can care for others.
1.   Standing Figure 4 Hip Stretch. Using your vehicle for balance, bend your left knee and place your left ankle above the right knee. Now bend the right knee so you are in a seated position. You will feel a stretch through your glutes, piriformis and hips. Hold for 20-30 seconds then switch to the other side. This is an excellent stretch to open up the hips and increase blood flow.
2.   Breathing Squats. It is amazing how much we hold our breath throughout the day. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and inhale as you lower into the squat, keeping your core engaged, sternum lifted and 70% of your weight in your heels. Hold for one count. Exhale, push through your heels, squeezing your butt and return to your starting position. Perform 15-20 reps at a slow breath-rate. This exercise is basically a standing meditation that also strengthens your entire lower body.
3.   Modified Push Up. Place both hands on the hood of your vehicle, wrists underneath the shoulders. Engage your core so your body is in one straight line (plank position). Inhale, squeeze your shoulder blades together and lower yourself down to the hood of the car. Exhale, straighten the elbows and push away returning to the start position. Perform 15-20 reps. This is an excellent exercise to work the core, pecs and triceps.

Talks with other poets
Matt Appleby
He opened my mind for the idea of border-less Poetry, which gives me good perspectives for the future.
I first met Matt in London Bus Station, it had been my first time in the city and I was ready to come back to Newcastle. He was also coming back home, Manchester in his case. In fact, it was funny the way we met. We were sitting next to each other and suddenly started laughing at the same time. I was laughing because the wind made the skirt of a girl get up and she was clearly not expecting that. I thought he was laughing at the same thing, but I was wrong “I was laughing”, he said, “because it’s so good to be here!”. We continued talking and I found that he was a language’s teacher and that he knew how to speak 7 different languages! Throughout the conversation we spoke English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. We talked about poetry, how we both like to write and to travel and our desire to make this in our professional future. I was really interested in his projects, he just moved from Italy to Colombia and he was in charge of one of the most popular poetry nights in Bologna, with poems’ readings in twelve different language, including Portuguese, followed by a translation into English. He was interested in my projects too, so we exchanged contacts. We kept sending emails to each other with poems, ideas and short stories, in English and sometimes in Portuguese. We also discussed our translation options for specific ideas or lines in poems - sometimes it is really hard but it is a challenge - for example, how to translate “glimpse” to Portuguese, we don’t really have a fair expression for the meaning of this word. Above there are two emails that I selected where he talks about poems that I use in the performance WHERE IS THE POETRY?. The story he talks about is “The Idea”.
“Dear Maria,
I think your story is excellent and the poem too. It was a pleasure meeting you - let me know what you think of this. It was the first story I ever published, when I was nineteen.
Matt”
“(...) The imagery, particularly the stranger stuff, is beautiful. "My skin vibes with the first yellows of the day" is fantastic. "These unfinished drawings in your hand" too. I don't want to dissect it too much, but "I walk through the birth of an idea" is also excellent - send me more whenever you like.
Matt
PS. I also wish I had my Portuguese wine.”
Tumblr media
Interview to Matt:
What is poetry for you?
Matt: It’s someone strange and often lonely, who might not speak your language, who might be long dead, and the connection you can have with that person.
What has your relationship with poetry been so far?
Matt: In spring in my city the pollen is thick, it piles up on my windowsill, people have to sweep it off the roads. One of my roommates is allergic. Because of his allergies, I suspect also because he enjoys it, he clears his throat. Until you’ve been woken up by my roommate’s historically loud throat-clearing, or the opera singer who lives upstairs from me, or the drilling in the car park by my flat, you don’t know what it’s like to spend a day without writing. Everything nags. I can’t rest. When I was nine I wrote long stories and forced my friends to read them so it must’ve been the same then as well.
Why did you start writing poems in the first place?
Matt: Because of what my grandmother and parents read me. We read Shelley, Hans Christian Andersen, Beyond the Deepwoods, His Dark Materials, and they were contagious.
What inspires/motivates you to create?
Matt: I saw a girl near the supermarket trying to sell yoghurt, I went home and wrote a story about that. My dad and I birdwatch together so I think a lot about swifts. For motivation, I have one good reader. When I talk to them about books I feel like writing, and my writing, is important.
Can you talk more deeply about your most recent project?
Matt: I’m publishing a book of young poets from the city I live in. I’m writing a novel too: it’s stalling.
What is the challenge of dealing with poetry in many different languages?
Matt: The only challenge is looking at a book in Classical Arabic and thinking I want to read you but can’t.
How do you feel about writing poems in other languages?
Matt: I studied languages so I don’t mind stealing and I don’t mind making mistakes. That’s partly because of the sort of writer I am, which is grubby and arrogant. But better writers steal too. Borges and Pessoa grew up speaking English and write the best prose in Spanish and Portuguese. Carpentier spoke French before Cuba, Nabokov was taught trilingually, Conrad learned English in his twenties. At their best, non-native speakers write better novels than native speakers. Poetry is a different, since novels are how languages end and poems are often how they start, but I think a non-native speaker of English could write a better poem than a native speaker, at least in a language as stodgy as English.
What are the particularities of English poetry that most appeal to you?
Matt: English has been manhandled. It’s so well-used. There aren’t many ways that English writing can be made to feel new without splicing it with other languages. That’s what Joyce tried, it’s why Sarah Howe uses Cantonese, or Salman Rushdie uses Urdu. So I like that mix of languages. I like that it’s malleable. I like that it can be read by so many people. But I don’t like that English has been done so well before.
What professional opportunities are there for poets nowadays in England?
Matt: You can teach writing, and T. S. Eliot famously worked in a bank, so there are lots of ways to sell out. Everyone knows it’s difficult to make money from poetry. The best thing is to do is find a job that is irrelevant to writing, surrounds you with people who don’t care about your writing, and affords you the time to write.
What do you think motivates people to read poetry or see it performed?
Matt: It’s interesting to see what other people think, and useful to be reminded of how stupid you are.
How does performance poetry differ between countries and cultures?
Matt: It varies more between subculture than culture. Students and people with degrees will come to a poetry reading if you invite them, and that reading is almost the same in France or Italy or Colombia. People who didn’t go to university (or science students) are more wary, but once you’ve convinced them that it won’t be boring (or slam poetry) they’ll usually go. Everyone loves rap, so rhyming is still cool. Often people’s first contact with a language is song lyrics, so there’s always someone who wants to read Frank Sinatra. I used to be snobby about that but not anymore. Poems that are scathing about young people are popular everywhere among young people. Bad love poetry ruins relationships, that’s universal too.
What do you know about Portuguese poetry? Can you talk about your relationship with it?
Matt: I don’t know very much because I’ve read so little Portuguese. Machado de Assis and Fernando Pessoa are wonderful. When I read Portuguese I understand without having learned it, which is how I feel when I read good poems too.
What is the biggest challenge for you as a poet?
Matt: Writing well about sex. Describing what it’s like to care about someone without rotting a reader’s teeth. How to make rhyme relevant. Whether to give it all up and get a gym membership instead. Whether to learn a new language. Not imagining myself accepting the Nobel Prize. Not thinking everything I’ll ever write is shit. Not copying other writers. Not boring friends with poems. Not being distracted by Facebook but has the girl I like messaged me? Not using friends as character fodder. Not writing in public so that I can be seen writing. Thinking more deeply about other people.
What are your plans for the future?
Matt: I’m going to be an interpreter.

On Tuesday 14th March, at 2pm, I met the English poet at Waterstones, the bookshop near the Monument. I suggested the place because it’s one of my favorite bookstores in Newcastle and a great place to write or memorize my lines - there’s never too much noise or too much silence and the hot chocolate is amazing. We talked about her creative process, she said that as me she likes to write in places like the one we were on, or somewhere inspiring outside home. We talked about professional possibilities in the poetry area, as giving creative-writing workshops (as the one she gave us in Facilitation Module in the Last Semester), write for performances (as I’m doing for Diana’s performance), write and perform it (as I’m doing now in this project) or write without the propose of performing it - write just for people to read. I never really thought about “just writing” and it was good to have a chat about it. She told me that she used to think in the same way as me, think that it was not enough for itself, but that when she actually had the courage to do it, she found new things and felt happy and realized with her work. Her last book was for kids and we talk about that too, how is like to write for kids - it interests me because my story “The Idea” can be good for children, even more now that I associated my toys of the characters to it. How can I develop my play with the toys and transform it in a piece for children? I was also interested in giving workshops in different contexts, taking the poetry and my acting and facilitating skills with me. Actually in the beginning I was deciding if I should do a facilitation project for this module of Professional Directions or if I should focus on my poetry. Why not to do both of them in the future? As an advice she told me to keep writing and engaging in the poetry events around me. If I keep passionate about my projects, the opportunities will end up appearing, she said. She also said that she feels that all of this is worth it when she realizes that her work was important for somebody, that it gave someone something new or meaningful. I found it really inspiring to talk with her.
I recorded this 30 minutes conversation with Ellen and I was happy with the tape because we could feel the atmosphere of the place by listening to it. Unfortunately I had a problem in my phone that made me loose all my recordings, so I described what happened with my words.
Alix Alexandra
I met Alix in 2nd February, at a Jam Poetry in Durham, she was one of the guests of that night. We first talked because we liked each other’s poetry. I could identify with her work because her principal themes were love, pain and change - very similar to mine. I liked her way of performing, she played a really nervous and emotive persona in her talks between the readings of the poems, which cached everybody’s attention and made the audience like her and cheer for her. She also sings her poetry and I’m following her page since then, so I can be close to what her projects are.

Márcia Nicolau
This beloved friend of mine is a Portuguese poet that published her first book in the last year. She writes about time, what means to be a child and has a strong connection with the nature. She’s been working with children recently. I really identify myself with her work and her professional objectives and I think I will probably work with her in the future.
Here is a page presenting one of her workshops, where there are some more informations about her and her projects: http://www.cm-melgaco.pt/apresentacao-do-livro-papa-siriruia/

Natasha Brown
Natasha is from my class in the Drama Course and I know since the last semester that she share with me the passion for poetry. We talk about our projects frequently and we even worked together in a poetry scene for Contemporary Performance this semester. Below is my talk with this brilliant poet.
Tumblr media
What is poetry for you?
Natasha: For me, poetry is a creative outlet for all of my inner emotions. Usually it's the emotions that I don't understand which I write about because it helps me to process them.
How have your life been related with the poetry so far?
Natasha: I have been involved in quite a lot of projects. I came 3rd in Birmingham's young poet laureate in 2013 and was shortlisted in 2014. Since then I get commissioned to write poetry for different people. I've been asked to write poems for black history month, I got involved in a project called "Who am I" where I explored who I am through my poetry which then toured the West Midlands, I have been performed at local poetry events, written for national literature day and I go into schools and perform poetry and teach children how to write.
Why did you start writing poems in the first place?
Natasha: I discovered my love for writing by accident actually. I was on holiday with a cousin and I wrote a poem about my experience on holiday and I shared it with her - I was just practising what I had learned at school. She encouraged me to share it, so I started sharing it with friends who encouraged me to write more and to start performing my poetry.
What inspire/motivate you to create?
Natasha: The things that inspire me to create are the events that go on in the world and in my own life personally. I've written poems which have related to my audience and when they come up to me with a positive response it instantly makes me want to write more, knowing that my poetry has influenced and inspired one person inspires me.
Can you talk more deeply about your most recent project?
Natasha: My most recent project was actually a poem which I had written for a university module. This was probably the hardest project that I had ever worked on, because I'm so used to writing as myself, with my own views and opinions that writing from a characters perspective was really difficult. I had to think about how that character felt about certain situations, how that character would speak and feel about the topic she was talking about. I really enjoyed working on this project as it opened up a new reality for me and a new way for me to write.
How does poetry help you to pass through hard moments in life?
Natasha: Poetry helps loads with the difficult moments that I face with life. It provides me with a healthy escape for my problems, writing poetry and delivering it helps me to process the situations that I face in life and to speak about them. I don't usually like to speak about my problems, however I love performing my poetry. So if you read or listen to my poetry, you will see a side to me that you probably would have never met.
What are the professional opportunities for the poets nowadays in England?
Natasha: Poetry is a growing industry in England. I feel like people are now realizing the beauty of spoken word poetry. For example, I was watching the nationwide advert and I noticed spoken word artists that I know performing. There's one, but also teaching is another job for spoken word artists, going into schools and teaching children how poetry works. I remember having to learn about poetry for my English GCSE. When the child sees poetry first hand, I feel they connect with it more. People are also freelance writers. They write and perform poetry for people's weddings, birthdays or other events that they may have on. Poetry is used in many ways, we as poets need to look for the opportunity and grasp them.
What do you think that motivates people to read/see poetry?
Natasha: I think the motivation between people reading or watching poetry is their curiosity and uncertainty in what poetry is. I see audiences from all ages come to poetry nights, young people and old people. People automatically believe that poetry is boring, because they associate it negatively. However when they see it being performed, they realise that it's almost like rap.
Why do people need poetry?
Natasha: People need poetry to keep their imaginations alive. I love word association poetry games where someone says a word and the word the next person says has to rhyme with it. Poetry is great for getting people to express themselves in a creative way.
What is the biggest challenge for you as a poet?
Natasha: The biggest challenge for me as a poet is finding opportunities to perform. I kind of have to throw myself out there and take any opportunity as it comes as poetry is still a growing network. I find it difficult to find other poets to collaborate with, that has similar interests for their craft as I do.
What are your plans for the future?
Natasha: My plans for the future are to become an actor. I want to be on the stage performing in shows and using my poetry to help me in any way possible. I want to make the growth of the poetry industry bigger and better for everyone involved.
