HELLO havent been here in ages have we so ive been messing around with blender for a couple of weeks and decided to finally render something completely from scratch and taking part in halloween edition secret santa event on small discord server was a great opportunity to do so! This one is for Alntrula
Tumblr media
Im a complete noob in blender and all i did ever was trying some yt tutorials. Not easy when you began with CAD like things and switch to geometry nodes... but i started to see the pattern in modeling, undertand some basic shortcuts and how the program works. So at last I knew what I was doing, what i was looking for and it made the workflow so much more pleasing! I planned my time for every step from sketching the views, to modeling, texturing, armature and rendering and it did help me learning from tuts and take the work goals one at a time. Heres the sketches in 2d and akjsndkj I WAS ALREADY HYPED so MUCh
couple of other scraps and wips
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this one was a challange the loooong guy with many legs is behir model for a plushie pattern you can see i made some attempts to see which actually clicks with the idea... its still not perfect for patterning but idc im super happy with the last one anyways B))
Tumblr media
BTW i love the windows sort of 3d object viewer?? you can pick a gradient and lighting in there so easily LIKE HOW I DIDNT KNOW ABOUT IT its soOOO helpfull whataheeeeeeek

Gelatinous Monarch - Model 2, Attempt 1
Tumblr media
Y
Scott the Guide was slain
The Wall of Text has awoken
"During my travels i have seen some of the most peculiar things. For example, that one time, slimes that always ignored me, unless i attacked first, suddenly became aggressive and very numerous. Then, a purple slime almost fell on me from the sky. It wouldn't be that weird if there was a sky island nearby, after all, harpies often hunt the slimes that formed on those, and sometimes they accidentally drop the slimy critters while taking off. But that's the thing - there was no sky island for miles. While i was pondering how it happened and fought off the swarm of slimes i saw them - hundreds of slimes falling from the sky. Some were in the distance, some were close. I started trying to get out of there. Luckily for me, only an occasional pinky required more than 1 bullet from this great revolver, that you can buy for just 10 gold. You don't want it? Why not, it's not like you could have anything bette- a-alright, alright, you don't have to point that thing at me!.. A-anyway, while i was escaping, i saw a giant slime with a crown. And it saw me too. It suddenly fell apart, leaving its crown behind. Then, even the crown disappeared, and the slime reformed in front of me, and while it was doing so, the crown materialised on the giant. Other than that, the slime behaved like what you'd expect from a giant slime, but when hurt, it created a bunch of blue slimes, some of which had gelatinous spikes and could shoot the aforementioned spikes. It took a while for me to take it down, but when i did, it turned that the slime has eaten a bunch of things. One of them was this water gun, and that is why it's worth 1 gold 30 silver. Not many things have such a story behind them. Actually, now that i think about it, the price should be higher. I guess gold 50 will be good... Oh, what did i do with the crown? Well... it kinda disappeared before i could pick it up. The biggest ruby in the crown flashed red and the crown was gone. Now that i think about it, could the gem be the reason for such weird behaviour from the slimes... And also for the flight and teleportation.... That story got me hungry, would you like some pho? You know, i usually don't make discounts, but this once you can have a pho for just 79 silver 99 copper. Oh, right, you just bought, like, a thousand of those. Wonder why'd you need so many. Welp, you do you... Huh, a slime just fell from the sky. That poor harpy... What do you mean you don't live near a sky island " - Aedan the Traveling Merchant to the Legend
The wall of text has been slain
My most problematic model so far, including the 2017-ish when i was learning 3d modeling for the first time. While trying to make it work i've learned how to actually use nodes, the fact that mix colors node is not a shader(literally lost motivation for a week because of that), got fucked over by terminator artifact and learnt how bullshit the subdivide modifier is, got some mastery over the knife tool, looked up how to make gems, remembered why i used to hate the knife tool and found out about the shade smooth thingy
That is my explanation of inactivity

Oh! Any of these that you haven't gotten yet or feel like answering: 4, 8, 16, 26?
you <3
4. I love hands . i LOVE hands . I love making hands expressive and putting them in funny poses that say something but my god... the path to drawing a dynamic hand is NOT an easy one
8. oh. oh SO many. Some animatics that have whole minutes complete never see the light of day and that's okay, maybe someday I'll post them! But for now they live in my ribcage like the rest of the demons.
16. 3D modelling! I 3D model a bunch to help speed up drawing backgrounds quite a bit, especially for architecture or vehicles, and I'm pretty decent at 3D modelling (not sculpting, but I do REALLYY wanna learn how to 3D character sculpting before long) but it's not my favourite thing in the world
26. HAH . the Home animatic I made for TOH like.. a month ago? Two? time is lawless and fake. Everyone interprets the kids as having always been awake the whole time but really it was only Luz but I began to think that fault was on me and my first attempt at telling a visual story with a written dialogue, and not using a song's lyrics to cushion it! I have another dialogue-based 4-minuteish animatic coming up this month and hopefully it's clearer what's going on??

Boba Fett Helmet (Take 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apparently I never actually posted the original on Tumblr. Hmm. Should I post it separately, or just combine it into this one about the new one? I'll combine them.
VERSION 1 (The not-so-good one)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've gone into detail about advantages and disadvantages of printing in resin, and they all apply with this first attempt at printing the helmet. Resin printers generally have smaller build plates, and even though the Elegoo Saturn's main selling point was its large plate, it was still too small to print these pieces without further cutting them down. The two bottom pieces needed to be cut in half, and the dome had to be cut into quarters. Because of this, there were many gaps to fill in and seams to try to cover up, and some parts didn't line up 100%.
Also: in a rare case of the resin printer's precise detail working *against* me, you may notice a lot of polygons from the 3D model showing through despite my best sanding efforts. ALSO also: Yes, I do have to leave sticky notes for myself reminding me to leave things the hell alone while glue is drying.
Tumblr media
My main method of filling in seams and gaps was to just drip resin into them and hit it with my UV flashlight. You can also do this to "weld" resin print pieces together, but I find it easier to use superglue to hold them together, then seal the attachment points with resin. If I spent a little more time, I probably could have completely eliminated those dome seams.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Time to paint. Did a whole coat of green, then taped the crap out of it to do the red visor part. Didn't bother taping the cheek indents because I was going to have to paint over them anyway, so it didn't matter if they got red on them. I ended up doing them by hand instead of spray painting. I also had to do the tan ear pieces by hand because I didn't have any tan spray paint.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You may notice the "brow" doesn't quite line up with the bottom, and because of that the antenna base that's supposed to sit flat against the side of the helmet...doesn't, and leaves a pretty big gap. Besides just looking wrong, this made it difficult to glue the piece on because it left a lot less contact area with the helmet. The left ear piece warped while printing, so that in addition to the brow sticking out too far kept it from sitting flat. And for some reason the antenna came out really bendy, so it drooped under the weight of the rangefinder.
So yeah! That's everything wrong with version 1, and why I decided to give it another try with my new printer.
VERSION 2
I'm glad I experimented with the Bo Katan helmet first, because I learned a lot of helpful things from that project. Like the fact that my head isn't as big as I thought, so I don't need to print large sized helmets. Also that it's better it to just wait out the hours for high-quality prints, than to rush them and try to fix the flaws afterward.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because this helmet is slightly smaller than the first one, and my filament printer has a massive build plate, I didn't need to cut any of the pieces to fit. I was even able to print the whole dome. The helmet model consists of two bottom halves, a vent section that goes between them on the back, and the dome. Shockingly, printing them as designed does wonders for fitting them together and much more effectively minimizes gaps, seams and alignment issues.
Fortunately, the less detailed printing method made the polygons much less of a problem. Unfortunately, much sanding and filler is needed to smooth out those rough layer lines.
NOTE: I use a caulk called Kwik Seal for filling and smoothing, but if you go out to get some of this stuff to use yourself MAKE SURE you pay attention to the labels and get the white one. There's also a transparent version that comes in tubes that look exactly the same except it says "transparent." The transparent stuff SUCKS for prop making. It's VERY sticky, and according to the label it can take 2+ weeks to fully dry and cure before you can sand or paint it. The white stuff has a much more manageable consistency, isn't sticky at all, and dries in MINUTES. And yes, I did learn this the hard way. Luckily it didn't ruin anything.
Tumblr media
And just to be sure it's absolutely as smooth as I can possibly get it, I hit it with two coats of Plasti-Dip.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yeah! Pretty much the same painting process as the first one, since that actually worked out pretty well. Except I actually got some tan spray paint to do the ear pieces. And the stripes are actually orange this time. On version 1 the paint went on orange, but faded to an almost yellow when it dried. So I just used a darker orange. Not thrilled with how they turned out, but I decided to let it go before I ruined something trying to redo them too many times.
AND THE ANTENNA ISN'T DROOPING ANYMORE. Resin is weird sometimes. I figured it *must* have been something to do with curing it, but no amount of extra time in the UV bucket would make the first antenna less rubbery. I even tried reprinting it and modified it to make it detachable so I wouldn't have to rip the whole base apart again to change it out, but it still came out droopy. The good news is I never actually glued the rangefinder onto the first antenna, so I was able to just pop it off and stick it on the new one, and I didn't have to print another one.
The files to print this helmet can be found on Thingiverse.

I repainted my 3D-artist-resin-cast 1:6 scale Leon S. Kennedy head sculpt, for the millionth time! DX I knew I was going to do so eventually; I was just hoping to not f-up again. Which, I kind of think I might have done, again! Fortunately, I feel like I have discovered a way to make him look more accurate, without being wasteful (of MSC, which is toxic, expensive and a pain in the gut to get). I always considered watching a tutorial or two, about how to paint realistic 1:6 action figures, since way back in the day when 1:6 started getting more realistic looking head sculpts and facial paint apps. I even attempted adding pigmented skin texture to some of my DIM Minimee. However, I was doing that with pastels, with small amounts of acrylic paint for just the line work. Which can be heavy and get really “make-up-like’ for my taste. That’s why I thought why not watch a tutorial now, since I was also looking for tutorials on how to gloss eyes properly. I found it’s pretty much what I’ve been doing (the glossing the eyes part), but my terrible shaky hands are huge handicap, that I’ll probably always mess that up.
The painting is so much easier than anything, but it does take a million watered down layers. I don’t know if should be getting model-grade paints, instead of using my artist-grade Liquitex, which might be too saturated and viscous for this kind of paint work? I don’t know, the artist whose tutorial I saw used only model-grade paints, so I am not certain. From the little bit I found on google searches, it seems any acrylic paint will work but the model-grade paints are more like water, than what Liquitex is like and going from the video, they are a lot less saturated/pigmented as well. Oh well, I’ll settle for what I have for now.
Regardless, I was able to get my Leon to look somewhat closer to what I always envisioned him looking like. I’m not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, and not even remotely good at this yet, but I hope that with the little bit I was able to learn, I’ll improve the next time I try repainting him again. I am kind of tempted to get more 1:6 action figures heads to attempt repainting, however, I am not into real people and those are the only heads that are popular in the 1:6 genre of figures. That or 3D printed unlicensed massed produced heads, which I am not okay with. It’s one thing to commission an individual to make a fan-art version for a small number of people, and another to mass produce every single character from a single brand’s licenses (squareenixfinalfantasycharacters), without even blinking. DX
I am fine with repainting this head as many times as it takes, as I have mentioned before, I just wish I didn’t suck as much at tiny miniature work. So that I could get to the point I will feel satisfied with him, sooner. I took a million photos, so I do believe I like him a lot better already! I can’t wait until I can feel like trying again! Which will probably be sooner than later, you never know when you’ll kick the bucket and that’ll be that! Lol! (: My cell phone that is older than dust, but takes “nicer” photos was dying, so I took most of these with my newer cell phone that takes sharper photos, but less pleasant to the eyes (IMHO). The last two were taken with my old-cell phone, I feel they show the texture a lot better. Although he’s not quite as tomato red, IRL.
He’s not wearing his black shirt that came with this set because I am planning on attempting to recreate the game’s version of the 5.11 tactical shirt that HT made. I am also not wanting to have to remove any stains on the body, as it is partially painted on the upper torso. This body is the Damtoys RE2R Leon’s body, so it’s pretty large, but the head is so big, it makes it look tiny....Lol! I am still angry that the head sculpt was made to be so large. From some angles, you can even see a huge gap at the nape of the neck, because the head is so freaking massive. T__T;;

My Art Summary for 2022!
(Under the cut I'll go into more details for each month, for memory's sake. Warning: It's LONG.)
Come one, come all for your opportunity to see all of the drawings I should have posted but never did! The ones that make me work harder every december to remember when tf i drew what! The ones that, in missing, make it seem like i only draw once a year--! (going through my twitter media tab is depressing LMAO)
JANUARY
[Pictured: Iola in Prenda clothing. There was a Twitter Post going around asking you to draw your WoL in your country's traditional clothes. Ofc I didn't skip the opportunity to do it! And drew my BF's WoL too for good measure. Still my fav drawing of the year!]
Also worked on a VTuber model for a friend (i drew it as a bust january last year; then this year was asked to expand it to full body). It was very challenging, but also fun!
For the rest, I designed some backstory NPCs for Asera (Daimyorus childhood friend, his goddess and a mage that helped us multiple times); and drew some twitch emotes for a client. Was a fresh, fun start. I remember having a lot of fun and finding that month quite relaxing.
Tumblr media
(Goddess Rondra, Mage Rupin & elf-friend Pedro (RIP))
FEBRUARY
[Pictured: My friend's bunny boi~]
Further work was done on the VTuber model, a lot of parts that weren't quite working before were redrawn. He was taking form!! Now that most of the work was done, also did a ref sheet to go with it. I couldn't wait to see him moving!
That's when I started preparing to open commissions for realz, trying to think of prices and set up examples. I drew some BGs and the Complexity Guide, and set most of the boring things up. I plan to open comms either Jan 2023 or February 2023, so let's hope all the work paid off~
MARCH
[Pictured: 'Smile at the Blue Skies', or "Fuq i need a bust sketch ref for my commission examples page". Sounds a bit less dreamy now, huh? LMAO]
But yeah, most of the month was dedicated to the VTuber model, working to fix it as the rigger found issues. Ref Sheet was finished this month. I'll stop mentioning the model, but the back and forth lasted till june or so?? Had to fix all of his toggles; and redraw his entire hair to allow for a better 3D effect when moving (it went from 3~6 layers to over 20). This was my first time working on vtuber models, so there was A LOT to learn. It surprising how many pitfalls there is in vtuber making. I'm very proud of how it turned out, and eternally grateful to the rigger (and to my friend) for being so patient with me. I was sent a small demo of what he looks like, and seeing your drawing move so beautifully like that feels magical!! There's still much to design and draw before he can debut, but hope you can support him then!
Oh yeah, there was this attempt too:
Tumblr media
APRIL
[Pictured: 'With Friends' the commission I worked on through March and April. Extra special because that's my friend & his pets there!]
Also sketched some ideas for illustrations of our RP characters (hi Irene), but never really completed them:
Tumblr media
It feels so long since I made these... Double checked like 3 times to make sure it wasn't April 2021 LMAO
I REALLY want to revisit some of these now.
MAY
[Pictured: #XIVARTBASH drawing, featuring Nero.]
Also drew the catgirl from Love2DrawManga. Didn't do much this month (...or did but forgot). I believe I worked on some BGs I can't show, but these are still very much stuck at WIP :(
JUNE
[Pictured: Nia's WoL, Mat. Just a smol gift for someone that brings a lot of joy to FFXIV Twitter.]
So... I completelly forgot I was drawing my OCs outfits [facepalm]:
Tumblr media
(Don't mind the two in the corner, I don't want my essay to get hit with Tumblr hammer LMAO They're nowhere near done). But yeah, these are my OCs from 'Elder''. I've had them since childhood, and still love them, even if I gave up on the book idea. Will make an actual post once all is done and I can go back to their character illusts uwu
JULY
[Pictured: Cade from 'Still Shining'. Working on this was an amazing experience~ Won't go on detail bc I already did, but still glad for the experience!]
Instead I'll talk about... Art Fight month!!!
SO.MUCH.FUN
I'm 100% going back next year! This event just proved how much I love drawing people's OCs. I really want to be a commission artist so I can do that for a living. Sadly I didn't get to draw everyone I wanted, plus I wasted a lot of time trying to look through OCs while the website was dying LMAO Next year I'll come prepared!
Also I drew that Spring picture to use as a reference in her profile there. I missed drawing her!
AUGUST
[Pictured: Commission for 'Under Maintenance'.]
Mostly worked on commemorative stuff. Anniversary chibi for Brie; that Under Maintenance pic; Thank You for DL message for 'Loving You Fully' and 'Still Shining'. Also designed some outfits (and painted some sprites) for Mythic Meetup: Midnight Mystery (not released yet!).
Started a bday gift for my boyfriend, but something kept looking 'off' about it so I didn't finish in time. Turns out it was overblended... And will require a redraw. Sorry boyfriend TT But my wife (tm) needs to look perfect!!
Also made the design for our new RP characters:
Tumblr media
(mine is the not-cat girl, obviously)
...And I belive this is when I made that cursed Yshtola feeding Zero picture? Yeah.
SEPTEMBER
[Pictured: Witch Torunn]
Made the YCH bases, as well as 3 examples. I have no memories of this month, but Windows says this sketch is from september:
Tumblr media
OCTOBER
[Pictured: Old OC redraw, for my Commission Guide. Decided to do it after a client asked for clarification if an old drawing was halfbody or fullbody (august last year, Torunn sitting down).]
Tumblr media
They're really old OCs of mine. Ever RP-ed in Deviantart groups? I did!!
Cecilia (<-) is pretty much a Iola prototype: salve maker and potion seller who lives with her dad (who taught her the craft). One day he collapses during work, and Cecilia ends up overworking herself to afford his medicine and other living expenses. In desperation, she joins The Guild as a novice magician for money, and gets herself involved on a war she never intended to join.
Celticca (->) is a archer and aspiring musician who wants to make the most beautiful song (tm) for her family. She's very sweet, but naïve and scatterbrained. I didn't have much planned for her, but had a lot of fun seeing her constantly get involved with Evil/Neutral alligned characters w/o noticing LOL
....Now that I think about it, she's literally a FFXIV bard, before I knew anything about XIV.
The rest of October was focused on Magni's Birthday Project and my YCH Halloween Commissions.
...And THIS:
Tumblr media
Halloween pictures of our current RP characters \O/ To go with our halloween session~ Also drew these two for our halloween one-shot:
Tumblr media
Ellie (<-) and Hadrianus (->). Ellie is a yandere witch I made as a joke and fell in love with. Hadrianus is my BF's wizard. Yes, he looks like Dr. Strange. Yes, that's the joke. The 3rd character was Rosemary, but I didn't ask to draw her so she's missing :( I do want to draw all of them at some point. We accidentally made "Spy x Family, but it's horror and Loid wants to run away" LOOOL I love this trio!!
Made 2 adoptables, but since they went unsold I decided to remove them and redraw for next year:
Tumblr media
(The neutral pose doesn't help them stand out ^^;; Sorry bbys)
Also sketched Julio from Atelier Sophie~
Tumblr media
(Hoping to finish it early next year. He's not the only idea I had while playing, but other stuff took priority"")
October was so much fun!! Sadly it let me completely drained by the end of it. I got hit with such a HUGE art block it was like my hands just... Forgot how to draw. Everything came out weird. Sadly, that resulted on me having to drop a drawing I was making for Brie :/ Hoping I can pick it back up soon... (better late than never right?)
It's around that time I decided to work on an AI redraw. Used Crayon (old Dall-e Mini) to create some monstrosity for me and tried to turn it into an actual drawing.
The monstrosity:
Tumblr media
The Work In Porgress:
Tumblr media
This drawing is a bit painful to look at, because of all the self doubt and bad feelings attached to it. But I want to finish it someday. My prompt was something stupid like 'cute anime girl having fun'. I want to remain true to the prompt and make her meeting with lil ladybug feel warm and fun!
...Like of the feelings I was missing back then, and am just now starting to get back.
TL;DR: Take breaks or you'll break.
NOVEMBER
[Pictured: Chibi Adra for Kyou.]
Managing burnout through most of it. Eventually just decided to stop fighting and played games instead. Even with the frame drops, Atelier Ryza is pretty fun~ Hoping to go bk to it soon.
At some point my boyfriend said I should just draw things to have fun for a bit. I followed his advice...
DECEMBER
[Pictured: Art Party (DracoLunari's WoL)]
...By drawing Iola as a sheep herder. It was much more fun than it sounds. I didn't care for polish at all, just seeing Iola in a cute outfit LMAO It's... A mess of a drawing. But it's MY mess of a drawing. I feel this thought calmed my mind a lot.
Also went for my first ever Art Party. It was fun, tho brain did get in the way after a bit, as expected ^^;;; Still want to go to these more often!! It's fun to draw & chat with others.
For random drawings, all I have is a(n embarrassing) fanart of Elf from Isekai Ojisan. I'll post eventually..... (that anime is hilarious)
For now I have a commission and a collab to take care of, and a certain Moon Goddess to draw as soon as possible~ Will be doing my best these next few days, and hope Iola can be my sheperd and guide me to the path of 'having lots of fun drawing again'.
ONWARDS TO 2023...
May my year be filled with bad drawings that I love;
And good drawings I'm proud of.
May your year give you the same
And everything else you wish for!
Thanks @/Taxkha on twitter for the Template!

Video Game Writing
51st Post! Our 50th post was the Star Wars one and I didn’t notice. My exams are officially over, and you know what that means. I have 0 knowledge of anything that is not programming that I will need to make a game, and it has been literally years since I last touched Unity.
So, here’s a checklist of things I’ll need to learn:
Unity: I have 3 options for 3D game dev, namely Unity, Unreal Engine and Godot. I could go into detail on why I chose Unity, but that would be boring, so in short, Unity is easy to use and uses C# and is popular with indie devs, UE is more complex, uses C++ and in popular with AAA games, Godot is free and open-source, but it less popular and has much less resources on the internet, and uses C# or GDScript, a Python based custom language. I would use Godot were it not for the fact I have little experience, so I’ll need tutorials and such, and I have experience with Unity.
Music: Ah, the bane of my existence. Okay, I’m overplaying it, composing doesn’t really come easy to me. I can play the keyboard a little, and am decent at playing by ear, but beyond that, no ability at all, and with the theme, that’s gonna be a problem. Hopefully I’ll get everything figured out by then. Sound design too, but I’ll probably be using online libraries or something, creating my own sounds could be a little complicated, but might have to do for certain stuff.
Art: Art is important in games, but not as much as music for mine. I will probably have to use low-poly models and flat textures and stuff. It’s not going to be pretty, but that’s not the focus, as is the case for most indie games.
Writing, our topic of the day. Now, there’s a huge difference between screenwriting or novel writing and video game writing. I, admittedly, haven’t played too many story driven games, so my experience is a little limited, but bear with me. Video games are an interactive medium, so there’s the intricacies that come with that. Okay, let me walk you through this with examples.
Undertale
For once, I think I’ll (painfully) skip Undertale.
Subnautica
Subnautica is mainly a survival-exploration game, and the story is pretty secondary, but I wanna cover all bases. The story is pretty Robinson Crusoey. The protagonist, Ryley Robinson, is a janitor on a spaceship which was attempting a slingshot maneuver with the planet 4546B but it crash landed and the crew escaped in Lifepods. By the time Ryley wakes up, the rest of the crew is dead, and Ryley just happens to land in the only Safe Shallows. The rest of the story is Ryley exploring the Aurora, finding rocket blueprints because Alterra (the company behind the spaceship) does not care enough to rescue him, because greedy corporation, and escaping. When Ryley returns home, he has a debt of 1 trillion credits because every resource he uses from the planet is apparently owned by Alterra. This is an example of a story where the protagonist doesn’t matter much and it’s pretty much the player playing. I will elaborate later.
Alan Wake and Control
Alan Wake and Control are games by Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment. Creators of games like Max Payne and Quantum Break, they’re known for narrative driven video games. Alan Wake’s story is split into episodes, a sound decision imo considering the storytelling style.. There are “Previously On…” sections for each episode so people who left off somewhere in between are not completely lost, but the game is relatively short, so I don’t think it was that necessary. I don’t want to spoil too much, so I’ll only get into the premise and a bit of the beginning for each game.
Alan Wake is a bestselling author going through a writer’s block. He and his wife, who has a fear of the dark, go to Bright Falls for a vacation. His wife disappeared/is kidnapped and Alan thinks she fell into the lake on which their cottage is on and jumps in, and it fades to black. Alan wakes up and he’s somehow crashed a car. He goes into the town to get help and has to fight through people covered in a weird dark mist. Oh right, he had a dream in the prologue section that taught him how to fight them, which is by shining a light on them for some time until the mist is gone and bam-bam. On the way he also finds manuscripts laying around the path which appear to be telling the future. I’m sure you can piece together what is going on with what I’ve told you so far.
Alan Wake’s story is simple, but gripping, which is probably the best kind of story. I probably would have finished it in one sitting were I not terrible at combat. It takes a pretty common fear and turns it into a villain (huh, I see the Stephen King inspiration now). The idea of the story being deterministic and physically pre-written is pretty novel. There are also these random TV sets lying around, which play this show called “Night Springs”. Night Springs appears to be a TV Show that tackles supernatural topics. They talk about the Many-Worlds interpretation, and the episode where they do is uh disturbing to say the least, as is the case with most of them, I guess, and a man who killed someone who seems to have identical fingerprints, which I think is referenced in a quest in Control? I can’t find anyone who also thought so, so I might be tinfoil hatting. The other collectible is uh… coffee thermoses..? They appear to have no significance, is it a lazy addition to pad out playtime? I have no idea. It’s referenced however in Control, with a document by the FBC saying that Alan Wake was seen collecting them and they seem to always dispense “refreshing and strong” coffee no matter what was poured in. I don’t think Alan drank any of it because he can’t run. Seriously. He is winded after no less than four seconds. Seriously dude, I know you’re a writer and all, but I haven’t run a meter in 3 years and I can run for longer.
Okay, that went on for long enough, so let’s move onto Control. Control is a new weird action adventure game also developed by Remedy. Jesse Faden is from a town called Ordinary (I know, ironic) where an Altered World Event or AWE for short occurred and she was separated from her brother, Dylan. Aided by this supernatural entity residing in her mind, she spends the rest of her life investigating what had happened to try and find her brother, and she’s led to the Federal Bureau of Control, deciding to take up the job of the janitor’s assistant. Things don’t go exactly to plan and she ends up Director. And as it turns out, that a resonance-based life form is infesting people and making them do their bidding. The rest of the game is Jesse exploring the Oldest House, the name for the FBC’s headquarters, assisting the Bureau while trying to find her brother. Control has a weird system for collectibles. There are documents, split into Research, Case Files and Correspondence. Most of them are in various levels of censorship, ranging from
Tumblr media
Whatever this is to
Tumblr media
This.
The censorship is perplexing in most cases, like in the former, like what the heck happened there that almost everything had to be censored, and in the latter one, the words seem obvious, but is it actually what I think it is or is it somehow more sinister..?
Control is heavily inspired by the SCP (Special Containment Procedures; backronym: Secure. Contain. Protect) Foundation uh mythos? The SCP Foundation deals with containing and documenting paranatural objects, locations, even individuals. The FBC also does that, they send out operatives to locate Altered Objects or Objects of Powers(OoPs). Altered Objects are just plain supernatural objects. OoPs however, can allow a parautilitarian to bind with it and gain powers, like Jesse does. This is one place I think Control excels at. Control does not spoon feed you the info for each AO, and you have to go searching for the documents on it.
Ah, damn, I don’t have the time to go into the rest of the things I wanted to talk about, so I’m going to put this on the back burner. The next few are going to be pretty low effort :P since you know, travelling laptopless. Ciao!

Week 9 - Prototyping
PRE-CLASS ACTIVITES I found this video useful discussing the use of models in mug development. Andrew's video has many similarities and some differences between my experience using the model for his mug project and the Olay concept model I did. A stark contrast between Andrew's workflow and my own is the importance of his concepts. It can be seen that his concept has more physical material and product concepts, holding the cup in the process and introducing parts by hand for pointing out. Digital software cannot enable such an experience, and in particular, weight and design may affect how we hold our cups and grip the handles. In his studio, the feel of glass, ceramics and even holes is tested. In such a process, countless variations and adventurous ideas have been tested for interactive purposes. In contrast, I did not delve into the material and other attempts. I can only do my best to simulate in 3ds max, I rarely feel objects through physical objects, but as a designer it is very good to do more physical models, because these things provide feedback on the feel of the design body.
IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
During modeling, I wanted my bottle to be symmetrical. So, after fixing the dent, I used the Symmetry Tool and I made a symmetry modification along the X axis to make the left and right sides of the bottle symmetrical (Image 1). It would be easier to use modifiers if I had this feature for the first two weeks. Two other very practical tips are using Relax to remove foam and symmetry imperfections. Symmetry makes a lot of sense for hand-drawn or hand-crafted models, greatly reducing the burden of hand-drawing (Image 2+3).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end I added the color, applied shader (Image 4). This makes it easier to see the imperfections of the model, some dents are not completely eliminated, and the bottom of the bottle looks strange from this angle. This leads me to discover that CAD models force you to imagine and be exact with all kinds of difficult details. But keep experimenting, experimenting with different materials, colors, and finishes at the click of a button, and digital modeling really excels in this case.
Tumblr media
For digital iteration and 3D printing of 3D scans, unfortunately I am an online student, and while I can still complete the process and print my designs remotely at the Design Futures Lab, I will only be able to pick it up when I arrive on campus next year.
POST-CLASS ACTIVITES Reflection:In this assignment, I combined my previous experience to save files every so often to avoid computer crashes during modeling. This week's assignment was more difficult than I expected, but it made me realize that I need to spend more time learning the software later on, as the basic skills I've learned so far can only produce a simple modeling and render. I will also spend time researching different materials to see how this affects the design. My goal is to become more confident and proficient at every stage of design, and I've found learning and gaining experience from elders in the industry very helpful and really fun.

IDES1262 Task 10 - Completing the loop.
For me, this semester is an interesting and unique experience. It is an attempt to make planar design three-dimensional. In the first part of the semester, the learning purpose mainly focuses on the normalization of plane expression, and then makes creations based on it. I think this stage is a preliminary exploration of design concepts and understanding the proofing and iteration process in the initial stage of design. The second part begins with the translation of some preliminary graphic designs into conceptual models, which are made using blue foam because it is relatively cheap and easy to cut and easily meet different molding needs. While making models by hand, I also began to understand some industrial processes, such as injection molding and die casting. Knowing this will help you reduce the number of problems you have when turning conceptual models into industrial products. The third part is to accelerate the construction of conceptual models through software. 3DS is easy to build entities, and its high randomness and tolerance for random surfaces make it a good choice for preliminary outline products. At the same time, 3DSmax can also quickly iterate the samples of existing dioramas by scanning, smoothing and printing. Therefore, in general, as an introductory course, 1262 clearly Outlines the design process of contemporary mainstream designers and the design direction that needs attention, and the class hour is also properly controlled.
As an online student, can't participate in 3 d printing entity model, and communication with people is a shame, though online students will still have communication, but these exchanges are often limited to chat platform and time zones, and because it is difficult to contact the actual model, often can only exchange for a conceptual thinking and cognition, difficult to proposals on some actual product and modify. And limited by the learning environment, many details can not achieve the most perfect state. Problems such as processing and materials could not be unified, and there was no opportunity to actually operate the injection molding machine and scan my own model. These are all regrets. However, I found many interesting skills and tools when making manual models, which may bring inspiration to my future work. If you can reset it for several weeks, I may be of some technology and design was improved, many ideas often become clear only when submitted, to many works also tend to be realized that only after the enthusiasm on the use of the software I also tend to be trapped in their past experience in the use of different software, it can reduce my efficiency, I will try many different design techniques in the future.

IDES1262 WEEK 9 - Preparing a 3D scan for printing.
Learning to use 3ds has been a pleasant experience and it has made some object design easier for me. Just a few hours before the pre-class activity, I watched the teacher demonstrate in class how to do it. As I was introduced to 3D modeling, I had a good feeling about the model.
Tumblr media
But this time, I am familiar with a lot of names, and it took me a lot of time to understand because of my unfamiliarity. This time I was able to handle it proficiently, and I stuck with skew, repeat, X-form, things I didn't finish last week. These are the things that I have gained in my uninterrupted learning.
Tumblr media
It takes a lot of effort to remember how and where options can be activated, especially if some attempts are made through the toolbar and modifier area. In modeling I find that there is still a long way to go, and many times I explore 3ds in my free time. Make it a tool to assist me on my design path.
In this modeling, I was able to quickly and detailedly understand the usage of FFD and x form, and adding these two instructions to the model is convenient for me to draw it. I am very interested in this software.
Tumblr media
Overall, this week's lessons have been very meaningful to me and will be very helpful for me in the future. I am very interested in it now. 3ds can not only help with modeling, but also add different materials to render a variety of renderings.

MP - 3D Assets (LO3) Part 1
After the interim-critique, I realized I had to learn 3d quick, thus I began to create models based on Opobo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I envisioned this asset in a better way. Thus, it's part of my development. It's the welcome stand visitors are greeted with after arriving into Opobo. It's difficult to model, so I spent my time elsewhere.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To see if I can render humans, I attempted to model the statue of Kind Jaja of Opobo, that didn't work out to well as one can see. The fences would have also been difficult to recreate.
More successful Assets
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After recreating the wrapper changing room, I felt more confident in what I was modelling. Compared to the last models, I mostly used shapes (the roof for instance is an extruded triangle) to recreate the room.
I used the photos to get the several wrapper textures and imported them into spline. Now, the flowers is a more detailed asset so I created one flower and cloned it in rows.
I noticed that the tents and the wrapper changing room are different on the Egerebite and Bibite days. Thus, I created two changing rooms and thinking of making different tents to show the difference. In the above photos, it can be seen the difference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The house was really difficult to recreate so I used my creativity here for how all of it will come together, with this pictures as guides.
The pillars were modelled using the extrusion tool and moving the vertices of the model. For the windows, I created a glass layer to show reflections and used a plane shape as the frame. The house hasn't been completed painted, so it made it easy for me to model.
Finally, the structure is mostly blocks but I modelled a cube for main house due to the railings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The interior of the home isn't an exact replica. This is absolutely fine as my aim was to represent a house. I already modeled the sofas before I saw the picture of my mom on the armseat, thus I made the decision to keep it as it is (there's no time to be modelling more seats).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the palace, the picture wasn't good quality great and there are different variations. At times, the pillar is red in pictures and in others, it's gold. Also, the bell I modelled is actually a light in other pictures, but I'd already modelled a bell around the swords (which I do believe is befitting). Thus, I am subjected to pick one. This monumental and very important to the essence of Opobo.
The canon above shows that King Jaja is a warlord and fought in many battles, the manilla tree shows his authority and power.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In conclusion, these are the assets I created during Easter.

04 - Repairing and Completion
The last stage is mainly about solving the problems encountered inside the blender. And thinking about what to do with my background. I decided to illuminate my character in the form of a flashlight to highlight the darker surroundings and show that the attack was taking place under unknown circumstances.
The general expression of the video:
The game starts by firing a bullet to activate the camera and hopefully opens the shot by shooting the character's standing sign.
The camera then reverses and goes inside the ship. The attacker played light-hearted music in an attempt to imply that the event had a high success rate and was short-lived. Due to unstable signal reception, one man was shot and another escaped. There is physical contact during the chase, which ends with a man being shot and kicked out of the ship to roam the universe.
Reflection:
I felt that in my 30-second video the pacing was not precise enough to make the story clear. I'm wondering if too many elements or colours might feel a bit cluttered. In video expression, the use of camera lenses is also very important.
I chose to do this group work alone because I wanted to try more new things. By watching and learning from video tutorials, I learnt how to build 2D paintings in blender, albeit simply.
This time I also have a deeper understanding of the difficulty of animation drawing. It is really a hard job, and the coherence between each action requires a large number of pictures to show. The establishment of 3D models increases this convenience, which I think is a better aspect. Although the difference between 3D animation and 2D animation is very big, it is still very convenient to use 3D models as an auxiliary in the painting process.
The other party's emphasis on embodying more emotional changes in the piece was, in my opinion, very difficult and demanding in terms of character dynamics and the pace of the story's plot. I chose to use music to allow my story to show the process of tension. Although it may seem a bit odd that there is no sound behind it. But I felt a little more tension when I was watching it myself.

Critical Appraisal
What is my final outcome?
My final outcome is a 2D paint-over of a 3D model made in Maya, depicting my scene with the theme “Forgotten Utopia”. I have made a half-sunken graveyard shrine area, situated in a lush, thriving forest, nestled, and shrouded by the surrounding trees. In the middle of the scene is a large baroque style angel statue, which appears to be praying over the graves. The area is serene, placid, and ethereal – fish swim in the waters and lilies bloom across the water’s surface. This composition of objects has been untouched for thousands of years, allowing moss and algae to cultivate and cover the graves. Though eroded over time, the area is teeming with life, spirit and an unwavering holiness – rich sunlight cascades between the trees, illuminating the shrine and giving warmth to this uninhabited location.
What went well?
I feel that I was able to overcome some skill-based issues over the course of this project, especially when it came to, not only making them, but composing the 3D assets into an arrangement I was happy with. When starting this brief, I found it easier to get into the flow of using 3D software than I have in previous projects, which shows that I am always learning things through practice. After some initial hurdles, I was able to get started on the 2D side of the project which is where I came into my own and produced a scene that I am proud of. I am happy to have captured the overall luminous, spiritual tone that I was going for with this piece and can say that I would follow the same processes in future projects.
What did I struggle with?
I undoubtedly struggled with the 3D tasks involved in this project, as well as time management and maintaining documentation throughout. I fought my way through the modelling stage, often experiencing topology issues with a, frankly simple set of assets. I struggled with being able to embed my angel sculpture into my 3D design and trying to conceive the best way to highlight this as the focal point in my chosen angles. Modelling, lighting and rendering a 3D diorama is not a set of skills that come naturally to me, however I did my utmost best to use what I could do to my advantage. Keeping up with the blogging proved difficult, however I was grateful to have done this when it came to putting my PDF journal together.
What would I do differently next time?
If I were to complete this project again, I would attempt to texture my scene prior to moving my rendered images to Photoshop. Within the time frame I had, I decided to leave all of my coloring/texturing up to photo-bashing, which arguably interfered with the contrast and figure of the objects I had created in 3D. This would have involved proper UV’s and the use of Substance Painter, which I’m sure I would have learnt a lot from using for this brief. Further, I would consider producing a 3D environment for Unreal Engine, as well as possibly animating this. It’s good to step out of your comfort zone, especially in creative industries – this could’ve shown further determination and willingness to learn.
What did I learn from this project?
Over the course of this project, I learnt many valuable practical skills, as well as moralistic lessons for my future endeavors. I have become fully confident in the use of Photoshop as a tool, which previous to year 1 of my BA, I had never used – I find this to be a huge personal achievement. I have also learnt to open myself up to the use of 3D practices to compose an image – this can be extremely useful when I am unsure as to where things should be placed in a scene. I am not massively confident doing environmental studies, so this has been a fundamental aid for me when it came to composition. I have learnt not to abandon work halfway through and keep working at it, as the result could be exactly what I had envisioned.

Assignment 7 - Bike update 03
Unfortunately I ran into some technical difficulties with what I planned next. What I wanted to do was to take my model into substance painter but ran into some technical difficulties with the UV process. Without enough time to complete this, I made renders of where I had gotten to with the design with a focus on making it as presentable as possible.
I made some last minute adjustments to the model and brought back some side-details from before as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall I feel like the bike is looking cool, but feel like I lacked the time to finish it and get it up to the standard that I wanted to. Regardless of this it was fun and challenging to learn 3D coat and to attempt this project in the way that I have. Reflecting on it, there were many points that I gotten stuck on while creating this model while trying to figure out the intricate details and constantly being mindful of how the overall larger design looks. It was definitely an amazing experience to have worked on this bike and to have learned all the new things I have learned while doing so, and I'm looking forward to taking this knowledge into my next project.

Aside from looking and feeling drained, I've had a nice week.
Still enjoying chilling with Stargate Atlantis even listened to a couple of episode commentaries (the writers have early aughts typical broey vibes though so that's off-putting).
Found a pair of shoes to wear this late autumn as my "vintage" vans mannaz fell apart. After I'd talked about the difficulty of finding shoes that fit me and how many I'd tried that didn't work out, Mum dug up a pair of hiking boots she'd forgotten to send back to dad and said he'd always had the same problem: wide feet with height just behind the toe area as the arch starts. Apparently getting work shoes for his teacher job that didn't hurt was quite a quest. They fit great except for the length so I went online, found the same brand "Queshua" and looked at their hiking shoes of the updated but same series/range. Ordered a male and female model in my size. Only the "guy" shoes fit and they don't have any spring in them like sports shoes do but sports shoes often end up too narrow. I can't risk buying them without going to a physical shop or doing a dozen returns. Queshua from decathlon have a free return from your post box and refund policy. Fantastic.
So basically, I'm elated to have been able to toss out the vans and stick the pastel gradient laces into my new all terrain, waterproof trainers. I'm going to look at their winter models for colder weather. It's reassuring to know there is a brand that tends to fit. I'm hoping to try the thrift store on the outskirts of town one day when the carer isn't too busy but that could be a while (why thrift? Because I generally don't fully know a shoe's problems before I've 'road tested' them) .
I also tried crochet again (every few years I try to knit or crochet from tutorials and it hasn't gone great, you all know I can't think in 3D, so like for the keyboard, it has to be muscle memory and mnemonics) This time I had two different youtube tutorials on half speed and could sort of 'get it' but for the life of me could not properly hold the yarn in the left hand. Mum was around so I sheepishly asked what I was doing wrong. Her first answer was "well have you practiced?" 🙄 (she forgets I'm not the 7 year old who gives up as soon as the dopamine runs out or gets distracted by shiny - i mean i am but I've learned to go back to practicing even if I have to make myself angry or use bribes and limits.) I dutifully produced my series of messed up lines and sat down to show her and she went "oh OK! you're doing it wrong, Here's how auntie Grace taught me" and wrapped the yarn around my little finger, using the middle finger as the main yarn holder and index+thumb to pinch the crochet. Then I had to leave because she kept telling me to "relax my shoulders relax your hands RELAX", I love her but I do not control the muscles when trying to practice a new hard (for me) skill for an audience.
That hands on tip was what made it actually 'take' this time even though I might end up using the ring finger instead. I haven't had much time to practice and made quite a mess of my first attempts at rows with a 3 ply yarn.
Today I was able to proudly show off a 5*30 stitch parallelogram (still haven't got the tension down) of thin cord, it took three tries... but not bad. I'm really hoping I'll be able to grok some more stitches and have something to keep the hands busy that's less taxing on my shoulder. I also need to ask her about auntie Grace, she's probably part of the deaf adult community mum grew up in.
Slowly working towards listing more dolls. You get stuck on junk decisions about whether to bundle, whether to dress them or one of the photos is too blurry and the whole thing stops because there's a missing step or piece. Plan derailed.
I've got incoming which helps with motivation: Elle eedee!!! I didn't click with her the first time then really missed her but now I know how I want to do her eyes. Twilight teens grey for Nicole Steel head (aliexpress 11.11 sales $5) and white.
Tumblr media
A Catrine and pink haired Howleen. Catrine is a design I just love and was always put off by the yellowing. Now that I know more about straight peroxide bleaching, I really want another try. I also want to see what happens to that lilac turned grey hair and if it fries or just turns lighter grey, she'll be bald. Their cleaning will be top priority in general but not top on the project list as I have Barbie Marnie who needs just a few more lines of hair to be perfect, a 1/6th BJD to string (need to practice rotary tool sanding and buffing on a damaged barbie before I touch her resin) and probably switching out Jewel Richie's eyes, they're beautiful with the green shimmer details but the visible bevel on the 'baddie' eyes makes them hard to photograph and distracts from looking like a cohesive face. Oooh I might try a line of black acrylic paint first to see if that fixes the issue.
Voilà, big blurb. Not many photos they're all on the desktop. The dogs are happy and well, Lily is a bouncy frolicking 15yo, Talia is learning to be less afraid of the big world and other dogs specifically Gargouille and Elliot.
Talia also threw up in almost every room in the house today, with for her grand finale some raw hide bone she swallowed whole to concentrate on hoarding the other two from Lily. Chihuahuas either have Tardis stomachs or they are mostly stomach because the dimensions of all that came up don't make sense.
Highlights were sharing popcorn with sis and mum on Sunday just chitchatting. Long hot bath to warm legs cold from the inside out. Stunning sights as the sun comes out from behind the mountains:
