Hello! I'm sorry if this sounds weird, but, I'm new to the st community here (ran away from twt lol), and I'm wondering if there's any specific blogs that do specific things that I should catch onto? Like, blogs that do lyric analysis, lore chat, art etc?

I've been following you for a while, and I've been trying to interact with blogs that come up a lot, but admittedly I'm a bit lost lmao

Hello anon!! Don't worry about the questions, I'm always happy to help, even if I have answered before!

We don't really have "specific blogs" around here as per se. There's @sleepanonymous who's the resident Librarian/Archivist/Knowledge Keeper, and then there are some blogs that do exclusively fanart and fanfiction.

Otherwise we're all a mix of everything. Most of us do a mix of lore theories / analysis / fanart / shitpost. Since the band itself doesn't have an "actual" set lore, you'll find a lot of different takes for the same songs / themes. I think we all have our own takes on the storyline, so it's really nice to read everyone's different opinions. Please feel free to join the conversation!

the magnus archives (tma) is a horror fiction podcast by rusty quill (i was honestly gonna just put a copypasta here but i've decided to be useful), it has kind of a monster of the week structure at first, with every episode being a different horror story, but then they all start connecting sooner or later, and by the end of season 1 it gets more character focused :)

the magnus protocol (tmagp) is a spinoff set in an alternate universe, it keeps the office setting but is more character focused and has some differences in the world and how the horror stories are handled. it's just started out, having released it's first episode on january 18th, so if the 200 tma episodes are a bit intimidating for you, you can totally start with tmagp if you want!

both of them have great queer rep and a racially diverse cast of characters (though a lot of them are fanon, because it's a podcast. but there are some characters that are canonically poc such as the main character of tmagp, samama khalid.)

before you listen to the episodes i would definitely advise to check out individual trigger warnings though, since they're both horror podcasts

If you go to his profile on twitch while he’s live you can go to videos where vods are and watch the vod for the current stream. The vod won’t have a thumbnail and will just have a camera icon or smth instead. It will only be as long as the stream has been so if you get caught up to where you started the vod while the stream was going it’ll stop.

Hi okay! I’m going to preface this entire thing with read the content warnings before you decide if you want to continue. Here is a list of all the content warnings and here is a spoiler free list.

If you have read the warnings and still would like to proceed, here are some of my favorite things and reasons id give for why you should read it.

I’m listing a few none content reasons that I think they are good. These are perks not directly relating to the books and the reading of them.

Some non-book content reasons to read

I think this would be a good plus for you: I would personally lump Neil Josten in with the Percy Jackson type of main character. Both are unreliable narrators who are sarcastic, unaware of their own abilities, and also self aware of their own idiocy (affectionate). Plus, oblivious as hell.

First major point is that getting the books is cheap, even if you want the audiobook. They are very cheap on kindle. Like I’m talking about The Foxhole Court is free, then The Raven King and The King’s Men are $0.99 USD each. (And, if you like audiobooks, you can add the audiobooks onto that for $7.49 USD each). So they’d total out to about $1.98 USD for all three books on Kindle, and if you did audiobooks too it’d be around $25 USD for all three. (You could also get the audiobooks later, the discount for it on audible works even after initial purchase).

Second, the fan content is exceptional. This is actually the thing that made me finally just go ahead and read them. The fan art? The fan fiction? Fuck its fantastic. I may be biased as a huge fan of the series but I truly think the overall quality of the fan content in the aftg fandom is better than a lot of other fandoms. It’s so damn good. And if you decide to read and want to find fanfiction after, I have plentyyyy of recs I could give you.

^ along with that, I have found so much awesome merch. My aftg merch collection brings me great joy every time I look at it.

Also! A lot of extra content from the author, if you decide you want more info on them.

ACTUAL CONTENT

I’m going to get into this, and if you have questions before you read or while you read (should you choose to do so), my DMs are open. I have read this series sooo many times, I can probably answer a lot of them.

Here is an explanation I would give, I will try to be spoiler free but I apologize if I give a bit too much away. I will also try to keep it short, but if you want more in depth or are okay with spoilers, again, let me know and id be happy to go more in depth. This isn’t a very polished explanation, I wrote this after taking my meds. Please excuse errors.

Anyways. Neil Josten is an Exy player (Exy is described as, “a bastard sport, an evolved sort of lacrosse on a soccer-sized court with the violence of ice hockey.”) The plot of the story is that he is on the run from his father, and he ends up in Arizona in a high school his senior year. He plays Exy to have something to do, and he ends up catching the eye of Kevin Day (who he met before leaving). One thing leads to another and they end up on the same team. The old team that Kevin Day was on was run by the Moriyamas, who are part of the yakuza, and they are obsessed with getting Kevin back. So a huge aspect of the plot is everyone trying to protect him from them, and Neil is trying to not have his real identity discovered. In his situation, if anyone finds out who he is, he is a dead man because his serial killer father will kill him so he is trying his best to stay alive while finding a place among the Foxes (the team he joins) for as long as he has.

There is a canon queer romance, and there are numerous canon queer characters. There are numerous gay characters, as well as a demisexual character. Though to make it clear, the romance is slow burn. Like since we are from Neil’s pov, it might seem kind of sudden but it is mostly because he is oblivious and doesn’t notice a lot of his surroundings.

But! I love this series so much. I love it, but if you start reading and end up not liking it/find it too much, that is totally fine. The series isn’t for everyone, and the triggers along could be enough to not want to read. Plus! If you have anything you specifically want to skip content wise, message me. I can tell you where to skip + a summary of what you skipped. I did this for a friend of mine on a specific chapter that was just too much for them.

Ahhh thank you so much!! So I use a rather large combo which is NOT performance friendly in the least. I also use Cathedral Weathers and the ENB that goes with it!

My base is Folkvangr, Cathedral Plants, Skyrim Flora Overhaul, Skyrim 3D Plants and Trees, and then these patches to replace the plants from 3D plants and trees w/ cathedral plants!!!

YES YES YES. ok so first and foremost.... shinbaku is rediscovery and finding your soulmate somewhere youd never have thought to look. shinbaku is the two of them coasting through their late twenties/early thirties and crashing into each other. shinbaku is the blazing sun and the crescent moon, it's early mornings meeting late nights, a barking dog and a lazy cat. shinsou challenges bakugo in the most annoying ways because winning doesnt matter to shinsou like bakugo thinks it should. he inherits aizawas ease, his suave, and bakugos temper is water off a ducks back to him. but bakugo enjoys the time he spends with shinsou, likes that he's not worshipped or idolised, loves the grounding it gives him. and shinsou just thinks-- though he can be loathe to stroke that ego-- that bakugo is the most powerful, wonderous person he's ever met.

awe i appreciate this so much! my biggest piece of advice for long fics would be to never post a first chapter unless you know how the story ends — you don’t need it written ofc, and you don’t need every element of the plot planned out, but you have to know what you’re working towards!

i have some fics sitting unfinished on my ao3, and it’s generally bc i wrote up to a point and then didn’t know where to go; i started without an ending in mind and got lost. my finished, chaptered fics have a common theme in that from the beginning, i had at least a general idea of the end! i really do think you need a roadmap to put together a coherent story.

for the cake fic, i knew they’d have an argument right before the wedding, which would turn into them getting together for real. for too many colours, i knew we’d see jack and davey together at pride, with both of them finally comfortable in their skin. the olympics fic was my most structured — i knew jack would fuck up his semifinal, get together with davey after it, then davey would win bronze and jack would get his gold, and they’d get engaged at the next olympics.

i don’t plan my fics chapter-by-chapter (which is why they get so long lol), i just go with the flow of “what do i think this character would do next” for however many words i’ve decided the chapters for that story are (~4k is a safe bet) and let things shake out from there… always with the end goal and some key plot points i want to hit in mind, and sometimes twists and turns surprise me as they come up! no point in running without a finish line, but you can always take a detour on the way 😁

Does it have its flaws? Yeah, every game does. But I def think the good things way outweigh them. We got:

Fun, easy to understand turn-based battle system

It's challenging but not ridiculously so

Sexy sexy soundtrack that is still one of my favorite game soundtracks to this day I have been listening to it all day today lol

Lots of sidequests! They make the world feel interconnected, too

Dungeons and the like to explore and treasure to find, which is something I personally love (back from my AD&D days in the Caves of Chaos I think). There also a lot of dungeon bosses which is fun

The eight stories definitely all aren't equal in how good they are, but they're all still good, some are just really good (and there's a little whump here and there, too ❤)

Charming characters & good voice acting (not fully voice acted, but important cutscenes are)

And I think the biggest flaw is there's not a ton of interaction between the 8 characters and their stories are kinda separate (but it looks like this won't be the case with the sequel!). There's still interaction to be had it's just not enough yk.

I know next to nothing about vocal synthesis, can you tell me how it works? Like how does a voice become a voicebank which is then tuned into speech? Get as in-detail as you'd like, I'd love to learn more!

Alrighty. I'll see what I can do.

Firstly, there are two main types of vocal synthesis that I know of: The source filter model, where a source sound/s is put through several filters in order to produce the desired sound (not unlike the human vocal tract), and concatenative synthesis, where prerecorded audio is spliced together and tweaked a bit so it doesn't sound as choppy (with that said choppiness also very much depends on the quality of audio samples). This second method sounds like what you asked about, and as it's the kind I am more familiar with due to my sub-interests in programs such as Vocaloid and Utau, I'll go from there.

Audio samples (in this case phonemes/diphones/triphones, breaths, or whatever sound the voicebank needs) for concatenative synthesis can vary in origin, from recordings done by professional singers/voice actors, to samples taken from the voicelines of fictional characters. iirc there's even an Utau voicebank (Adachi Rei I think???) that uses digitally synthesised sounds that have been edited to sound like phonemes (a bit like the source filter model I believe).

With singing synthesis software, the samples are then placed through models to give them the desired pitch, but I've always sucked ass at functions and domains, but I find that this video explains it in a way that should make sense to someone new to it. (it also explains speech synthesis/vocaloid in general quite well imo)

tl;dr: The source filter model kind of like replicating the human voicebox and mouth, and concatenative synthesis is a bit like sentence mixing in a ytp.
