rio i miss and love you and your analysis posts. what are your thoughts on the clethubs dynamic this season (in anticipation of the new episode tmrw)
hi aleph thank you so much for giving me a green flag to just drop a 1000 word rant about clethubs also sorry i missed the deadline and also sorry about the length. anyways personally i think clethubs is what you get when you put 3 people who are burdened with Remembering in a world where no one else really seems to. like, of course the other players remember and make references to events of the past, but they don’t remember in the way these three do.
to me this is best explained through a breakdown of Trust and how it manifests between each of them indiviudally. etho, especially, is so distrusted by most of the server. he’s a schemer, he has a reputation of being really unreadable and also unpredictable, but if you actually try to understand him it’s really easy to see that he’s actually the most straightforward person alive. he operates purely on debts and repayments. not debts in a trade sense—those are a business transaction and subject to being logically dissected and exploited. but debts in an emotional sense. etho offered grian mercy in limited life because of the diamond sword in episode 1, which grian had forgotten about entirely all the while etho had been biding his time and waiting for a chance to repay it all season.
cleo is the only person on the server who seems to really understand this part of etho, and therefore is the only person who seems to be able to read his true intentions. not only that, but she's the only one who really seems to approach the concept of loyalty in the same way. in the life series, alliances are feeble and fleeting, and for the most past actions hold no bearing in the future. it doesn’t matter what happened 5 episodes ago—if you’re not on my side now, you’re against me. there’s no such thing for cleo—loyalty and betrayal are not just momentary states of being. if you took something dear from me 5 episodes ago, i will never fully allow myself to need you again. even if we're in the final five and our survival depends on each other.
cleo and etho were direct antagonists in the last season and have no reason to trust each other now, but they trust openly despite it because better than most they understand the burden of a debt unpaid, and the burden of remembering in a way that no one else seems to. to them, loyalty isn’t about who you arbitrarily align yourself with, it’s a gesture. it’s “you gave me an extra pair of diamond leggings 3 episodes ago for no reason when you could’ve given it to your allies and now you have no idea that youre in my good books forever.” you can be on opposites ends of a war from someone but if they extend you a moment of mercy, well, how are you supposed to forget that? how are you not supposed to spend the rest of your life repaying that? they both subconsciously keep lists, not just of people they want to kill (like so many other players seem to), but of people who have extended a hand to them in a time where it didn't really make sense to. of gestures that were silently meaningful towards people they care about. "i trust you because bdubs trusted you" etc etc.
it makes so much sense that cleo and etho would both go immediately to becoming sworn allies this season after being bitter enemies in the previous series. because they both understand that there’s no such thing as fleeting alliances, and when they've decided to choose each other, it’s more than just a shared base or a team name—it’s something unshakable. it’s a thousand debts you take turns repaying.
and then theres bdubs, where remembering takes a different form entirely. for him, remembering manifests as shared history. if i chose you before, really chose you, then i’m going to choose you again and again and again. i’m going to hover in your orbit even if you don’t choose me the next time, because you and i both know what we had, even if we’re not supposed to acknowledge it. “that was a different universe, this is a different world. you’re just cleo” but i’m going to spend the rest of the episode hovering longingly by your base anyways. “this is our old thing, if it comes down to it we don’t betray each other” because the loyalty created its roots years ago and has been growing out of control ever since. you ask bdubs where his team is and he shifts uncomfortably and refuses to explicitly call them his allies, insisting that they just showed up around him but he's not really sure.
and just like etho, the other players never fully trust bdubs. he’s fickle with his loyalty and seems to be a split decision away from turning on his friends at any second, but cleo and etho both know that’s not really true either. their trust towards him comes from that Remembering, that fundamental understanding of shared history.
for etho, it’s the push and pull. it’s the knowing that we go so far back that what happens in between never really matters. you got caught in an explosion or a trap that i set in your base? well, good thing we have a hundred more lives to play with so we can just laugh it off like we always do. a stray explosion or a firing squad aren’t an act of betrayal, any more than a mocking comment about your height or a casual threat of violence. and when it really matters, we both know we’d put down our swords.
for cleo, it’s something unshakeable. bdubs, the known traitor of 3rd life, was fiercely protective of her and her alone. so she’s never wary of him the same way anyone else is—she knows that when bdubs really chooses you, then you’re marked for life.
so yeah. clethubs is three guys who share the burden of remembering. and also have some kind of unspoken understanding of each others motives and intentions that no other player seems to have concretely picked up on. but in a way that ultimately just culminates in them acting like freaks around each other and not actually making any direct effort to team mostly because, as usual, etho and bdubs have no idea how to communicate their intentions directly and sincerely like normal people and instead opt to hover in the fringes of each others alliances and make really weird and loaded comments . Anyways

The first half of season 2 of Picard really has a lot more pace until the back half. And the whole Picard-Mother thing kicked off and majorly slowed down the pace from a sprint into a walk.
(The part where Akiva Goldsman fully took over, I suspect. Plus, the whole COVID of it all.)
On the other hand, I really enjoyed the heist-y planning but mostly because of the judge-y and confused looks Rios, Raffi, and Seven were throwing at Picard for choosing Agnes to infiltrate and hack the system first.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love that there was a second where Seven, Rios, and Raffi look so skeptical. And Agnes Jurati looked shellshocked. Because the first time they did something similar in Stardust City Rag, Jurati was A Mess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alison Pill was really, really funny in season 2 -- she's the Amy Acker of Picard Season 2 since season 1 really squandered her.
Tumblr media
(Honestly, I am so sad they broke up, I really like their relationship, and while I like Teresa, I do love Rios and Jurati dynamic in season 2. The ex-banter is amazing.)
Tumblr media
I love how Seven took Picard's 'she has all the skills' personally. Because Picard only knows the gun-toting Vigilante Pirate Ranger Seven of Nine and not the Know-it-All science-engineer!Nerd!Seven.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOL. She even gave Jurati a Look.
Tumblr media
And Agnes doesn't even know the Look Seven is giving her.
Seven's Borg arrogance and vanity were pricked, remember when she had that Know-It-All, I was Right energy All the Time?
Tumblr media
I bet sometimes she missed those days.

master post - all my Chenford stories
missing you sucks (i don't feel like me anymore) (AO3) Spec fic for 5x21 & 5x22. Lucy's on a longterm UC op and Tim misses her.
home is where my heart is (you feel like home) (AO3) Lucy's POV while she's undercover. Companion piece to "missing you sucks"
she was always the one you were meant to find (AO3) Isabel returns and makes a few observations about Tim and Lucy's relationship. Spec fic for 5x20.
i don't wanna lose you now, or ever (AO3) Lucy's insecurities are brought to the surface with Isabel's unexpected return, leading to a long overdue talk with Tim. (kind of a continuation of 5x20 spec fic from Lucy's POV, but works as a standalone)
it never was, not with you (AO3) Lucy spends some more time at Tim's bedside after his surgery, eventually hearing something unexpected.
you couldn't have loved me better (AO3) Lucy gets pulled out of her deep cover op prematurely after three months, so she's expecting bad news. She just never imagined this. Warning: Major Character Death!
i can't lose you (ch 1; ch 2) (AO3) A continuation of that last Chenford scene from 5x21, from Lucy's POV.
no one but you (AO3) Tim hasn't been able to let the thought go, but he didn't expect the conversation to end up being this emotional.
we've been here before, but it's different this time (AO3) Missing moment from the season 5 finale. Continuation of that hug scene.
i'm here if you need me (AO3) After learning of Chris Rios's passing, Tim tries his best to offer some comfort and be there for Lucy.
tell me we could have it all (AO3) Tim and Lucy share a moment when he drops her off after Nyla's wedding. Will they run and pretend it never happened, or will it finally make them realize that there's something between them and talk about their feelings?
feels like there's oceans between you and me (ch 1; ch 2; ch3; ch 4; ch 5, ch 6, ch 7, ch 8) (AO3) An insight into Tim's mind as he struggles to make sense of his changing relationship with Lucy and come to terms with his growing feelings for her.
the scratches gave us away (AO3) Aaron makes an interesting discovery, and proceeds to out a certain secret relationship.
Little bit of Love (AO3) A look into what the future may hold for Tim and Lucy.
when you’re by my side (AO3) Tim, Lucy, and Aaron get stuck in an elevator while on duty. Lucy’s trauma triggers a panic attack, but Tim is there to help her through it.
run into the night (like the sun won't ever come up) (AO3) After their first time together, Lucy and Tim spend some time lying in bed talking about scars, and feelings, and how they got to where they are today.
you keep his shirt (he keeps his word) (AO3) The day wasn’t special or remarkable at all, not in that sense anyway — until it turned into one that neither Lucy nor Tim would ever forget.
all this chemistry has got me falling (i'm definitely high) (AO3) Tim needed to forget; he needed to forget that his marriage was basically over. So when a beautiful stranger he met at a bar while drowning his sorrows suggested they help each other forget for a night, he couldn’t say no.
Little bit of Lust (AO3) The M and E rated missing scenes from Little bit of Love.
warm with you, safe with you, in love with you (AO3) When Lucy unexpectedly gets sick with the flu, Tim makes sure she's well taken care of. Even when she doesn't want to admit she's sick in the first place and insists on going into work anyway. Set sometime between 5x14 and 5x16.
'tis the first of many seasons (AO3) Chenford celebrate their first Christmas together with a ski trip and a cozy cabin. Bonus points if they get snowed in for a couple days. For Chenford Secret Santa 2023
two hearts that beat as one (our lives have just begun) (AO3) Chenford's first New Years as a married couple. Bonus fic for Chenford Secret Santa 2023

Maybe I’m just missing an obvious detail because I’m not from America but I thought Picard season 3 was the only good one? The first 2 seasons felt like bland slop that you could watch hundreds of hours of from any American network but the third at least felt like they were using Picard as a captain rather than a mouthpiece for the writers. I remember watching the original series when I was younger and the show under Alex Kurtzman felt like it had such a distain for the original I found it almost petty
(1) I am not American.
(2) I've already expressed my opinion in a great deal of detail in a great many places, but basically it boils down to this: When I think about TNG and what I liked from it, I don't just think about the characters. I think about the moral dilemmas; about the social commentary; about the thought-provoking science fiction concepts; about the contemplation of the human condition. The first two seasons, for all of their flaws--and I agree, they had flaws in absolute spades--offered all of these things. The third season, by and large, did not. It was an action movie, complete with quips, morally weightless violence, and a plot that was resolved simply by killing the bad guys. And you know what, I did enjoy seeing the old crew again; I grew up with TNG, I was literally obsessed with it for my entire childhood. I had comic books and action figures of the entire crew. But it all just felt so hollow.
And you say that the first two seasons felt disdainful. I entirely disagree. But I absolutely think that the third season was completely disdainful of the first and second. 80% of the original cast was pushed out and never even mentioned, not even when they were plot relevant. Data comes back to life and no one tells him that he has a daughter; that there's now an entire planet of Soong-type androids and he's no longer alone in the universe. The Borg come back and no one even mentions Jurati, who spent the entire second season becoming a Borg Queen. Raffi learns to swordfight from Worf and never feels the need to mention that her adopted son is a Romulan swordmaster. Rios's ship, La Sirena, is just casually dumped somewhere after the fifth episode, presumably alongside his chorus of holograms; the script can't be arsed to tell us what became of it. Laris tells Picard in the second scene of the first episode of the season that she will be waiting for him at some café. She's never seen or even mentioned again. Disdainful? The third season is positively contemptuous of the first two, of their characters, and of all of us fans who liked them.
Anyways, that's why I don't like it. Hope that helps.

Lmao I have so many questions about that promo pic!!! Was this s1?! MM looks more like s2/3, but I can’t see how they’d have him with a Mini Cooper in later seasons 😭 are there similar photos for the rest of the cast?? Or network was just like nah let’s just throw Rio in front of the lamest background and call it a day?
I love all the background knowledge you have from watching this show live haha. As a ‘streamed it’ girlie, I do regret missing all the behind the scenes hot goss!! Please continue to share, it’s so enjoyable for me 😂
Haha yeah it was a promo pic for Season 1!
The (first time) they shared it was on their insta back in March 2018 so when S1 was airing. Obviously a totally silly promo shoot with a different ~vibe~ to what he ends up being lol mini cooper Rio woulda been too funny
I get the sense they were using any shots they had lying around at that time (the promo for GG was always a total mess) and because it's so odd I always assumed it was taken during the shooting of the original pilot when the show was different/before they recast Beth and changed things.
Or it wouldn't even surprise me if it was actually just a costume test for Rio that they photoshopped a random background behind so they could post something. It's literally stock footage skyline stock footage car.
I'm guessing there aren't any similarly odd pics of the girls from that time because if it was from a character photoshoot they probably woulda shot pics as a three? And they couldn't use old material that woulda had Kathleen Perkins as Beth.
And to back me up on this theory literally the day before they posted this Rio image they posted separate portrait pics of all the girls but not in character just from a cute recent (at the time) shoot they did.
And lol yeah honestly we were in the TRENCHES 😂 I have sooo much cursed background knowledge and most of the bts is best left forgotten lmao but it was a wild brilliant experience watching GG live week to week, the 3am streaming anxiety for me was unreal and the live watching with the fandom and insanity we endured and the hilarity and the fun and drama and analysis....man i miss it 🥹

Sun Bleached || Jake “Hangman” Seresin (part 2)
Part 1
note: you guys are batshit for reading this, love you, let me know how we’re feeling
warnings: explicit language
Sleeping on the Blacktop
“You’re asking me to assemble a team to prepare for attack and these guys are my choices?”
Jake hadn’t meant to raise his voice when speaking to Maverick, but the image of that girl and her fucking grin after her little performance was sending him spiraling.
Admiral Simpson responded before his captain could tear into his ass about his volume. “You aren’t impressed?”
Rooster spoke up from where he lounged against the opposite wall, the rest of the team scattered around the office like weeds. “I thought they were pretty good.”
Jake scoffed and rolled his eyes. “You would.”
“Who’s top of the class so far?” Phoenix interrupted as she sensed the tension between her teammates rising with every second passing.
Cyclone smirked at Jake, and something about the older man’s expression irked him even more.
What was happening to him?
“Lieutenant Canadee. Callsign ‘Cheek’.”
He wanted to scream.
“She’s one hell of a pilot,” Coyote offered.
Jake didn’t know why, but the statement bugged him. “She’s reckless, is what she is!”
Eyes from all over the room settled on him, a genuine laugh leaving Phoenix at the sight of him. “Never thought I’d see the day Bagman wanted someone to take it slow.”
Jake rolled his eyes, both at the nickname and the comment. Maybe he wasn’t the safest or most “textbook perfect” pilot, but he was damn good and he knew his limits.
Most of the time.
But she didn’t. She hadn’t even finished the program yet, and she still flew with the arrogance of a seasoned professional.
And he hated it.
Every single part of her flying screamed ‘untouchable’. And that little bitter rage inside of him wanted to correct it, to put her in her place and keep her from killing herself.
‘That’s not true,’ snarled a little voice in the back of his head, and again, he yanked on that internal leash until it quieted.
It was true. It must’ve been true. He wouldn’t be so riled up over her if it wasn’t. She was dangerous and he wouldn’t allow that. Not on his first assignment as squadron leader.
“So my only options are inexperienced pilots who cower against some kid?” he simpered.
Maverick sighed, a defeated sound that only served to push Jake further. “Or you pick the kid.”
“I’m not putting her anywhere near my team.”
It was final, his voice. No room for argument or discussion. He had made his choice and that was that.
Rooster didn’t seem to think so.
“I don’t get why you’re so against the idea of her being on the team. Her and her RIO seem like a good pair, and the other pilots talk highly of her. She might do great,” he tried. Jake didn’t miss the way his voice seemed to soften more than usual, as if picking up on the tension mounting.
“Or she could get us all killed,” he sneered.
And herself, but he didn’t voice that point.
How was no one seeing his side of it? How had no one else in the room picked up on the fact that this was a ridiculous idea?
Top fucking 1%.
A beat passed before Beau sighed, pushing himself back from his desk and stalking around to lean on it. “The rest of the crew calls her and Rev ‘the Twins’.” His lips spread into a small grin that seemed to chill the air around them. “Ask me why.”
He was baiting him, and Jake knew, could read right into him. This was a way to reign him in without saying as much. Jake had been towing the line between passionate and disrespectful, and Admiral Simpson had had enough. He was trying to reel him in before he got too far out.
Jake, at least, had the decency to appreciate the effort.
“Why?” he all but spat.
If he was affected by the snappiness, Beau didn’t show it. “They walk alike. They talk alike. They think alike. They eat, breathe, sleep, and fly alike. They’re the most cohesive team I’ve had come through this program in quite some time, and yes, that includes all of you.” His eyes slid across the crew assembled, somehow making a room full of the Navy’s finest feel small and insignificant under his stare. “They’d be a fine addition to the team, but in the end, it’s up to you… squadron leader.”
The title sounded sour when he said it, and Jake realized this was never meant to be a reward for his bravery during the dagger mission, or a “challenge” as Maverick had tried to frame it.
It was a punishment. For not following orders and flying without instruction. Forget that he had saved Mav’s ass (and Rooster, the son of a bitch), he had bucked and shouted until he took what he wanted, and left despite his orders to stay put.
And they wanted him to pay for it.
Admiral Simpson would never say as much, and Maverick probably did see it as a learning opportunity, but Jake saw it for exactly what it was.
His captain stirred in his chair, shuffling his feet uncomfortably and finally speaking up again. “Give it a shot. You’ll have plenty of down time to talk to them, and starting tomorrow you all will be flying in dogfight drills with them. Just take a few days to get to know everyone and see who meshes with the rest of you,” he encouraged, but his eyes didn’t have the same cheer in them. He didn’t believe the words he was saying as much as anyone else in the office. “Be open-minded, and see what happens.”
See what happens. A team tasked with protecting the fortress they called ‘home’, and they wanted him to just…
see what happens?
Jake spun on his heel and stormed out before he said something that very well may have cost him his career.
—————
Coyote had tracked him down, pacing on the deck while sweat headed down his neck. It took all of twenty minutes to convince him to join the team for lunch, but he relented nonetheless and sulked behind his friend down the corridors and to the mess hall.
Goddamn Coyote.
Because “team lunch” didn’t just mean them, Rooster, Phoenix, Bob, and Payback.
“Team lunch” meant his team…
…and every single one of the rookies.
The urge to turn around and stalk back to the deck was almost overwhelming, but Coyote clamped a hand down on his shoulder and steered him towards a seat near Bradshaw. A quick glance over the crowd was enough for him to realize a certain young woman was absent, and he cursed the surge of disappointment he felt, insisting it was annoyance.
Yes. Annoyance. He was annoyed that she would skip team lunch. That’s all this was.
“If it isn’t our fearful leader,” Bradley cooed, halfway through a plate of whatever the higher ups had ordered for catering. A celebratory lunch, he was sure, for the graduating class.
Celebratory lunch for mediocrity.
Great.
Jake knew he was being unfair, anyone with eyes could tell he was in a mood, and it’s not like anyone did anything to piss him off. But he was upset, and he was squadron leader, so it was their problem now too.
He realized too late that Bradshaw had been in the middle of conversing with Rev, the latter of which was staring at Rooster like he hung the stars. He had half a mind to stand up and relocate, maybe sit somewhere where no one would bother him (like another room), when the door swung open, loud enough to echo through the room, and Rev’s eyes lit up.
“There she is!”
Fuck.
Cheek seemed to skip into the room, her steps light and bouncy and unrelentingly agitating for some reason. Because of course she would fly hard enough to make a mockery out of the rest of her team, and still have the audacity to just stroll on in.
The chair across from him was pulled out and before he could brace himself, she was in front of him, changed out of her flight suit into a Navy sweatshirt and athletic shorts. His nails bit into his palms at the sight of her bare legs, and he wanted to scream.
Jake knew her type. She flew fast, and without regard for herself, only concerned with the task and those around her, and that kind of flying was not what he wanted to put out in the field for this mission. He wouldn’t risk her failing and reaping the consequences because of her recklessness.
‘You don’t even know her,’ a voice in his head reasoned.
He didn’t have to. At least, he didn’t think so. He didn’t want to.
He didn’t.
“Hey handsome,” she smiled, and the way her eyes crinkled under the weight of it made his chest hurt.
He didn’t want to think about what that meant.
He didn’t.
A hand hovered in front of him, outstretched and gentle, and it was only then that he realized she had been speaking to him.
“What?” he bit out harshly.
But it didn’t deter her. That same bright smile was practically cemented to her cheeks. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Gwyn.”
Gwyn.
Gwyn.
Somehow having a name, an actual name to call her made the knot in his chest so much worse.
What the fuck was wrong with him?
“Hangman,” he replied without humor. She didn’t need to know anything beyond his callsign. He couldn’t handle the idea of her calling him anything else besides his callsign.
Her hand hung limply between them as she replied, “Oh we’re using callsigns. I’m Cheek.” Jake didn’t want to, but he shook her hand, for no other reason than to get her out of his space and back to her side of the table where she wasn’t so suffocatingly close. She perched herself on the edge of her chair, elbows resting on the table, as she leaned in like she was hanging on to every word he said.
“Alec Shaw, callsign ‘Rev’,” cut in the dark haired man next to her. Jake didn’t bother offering to shake his hand, and Alec didn’t seem interested in offering his.
Bradshaw introduced himself next, ever the charmer, and began a series of polite questions that Jake probably should’ve been asking as squadron leader, but he was too preoccupied watching the way Gwyn’s eyes followed their every movement, as if she was scared to miss something.
“So,” Rooster smiled, lacing his hands together on the table, “why do they call you ‘Cheek’?”
Gwyn opened her mouth to respond, but Rev beat her to the chase, and Jake got the distinct impression that he did that often.
“Because she never knows when to shut the hell up.”
The young woman smiled, clearly unbothered but the comment, but Jake bit back the urge to reprimand Alec for it all the same.
‘See what happens.’
Fuck.
He knew he should’ve been more engaging in the conversation, maybe even make rounds to different tables and speak with all the other candidates, but he was glued to his chair, trying (and failing) to ignore Gwyn as she told Bradshaw about how she had been invited to join the program.
“Alec and I have been flying together since flight school, so we were really stoked to be invited here together.”
“You make a good team,” Bradley smiled politely, side-eyeing Jake in a way that told him he should be paying attention. Jake sighed and sat up.
“What makes you better than every other pilot here?”
Straight to the point. He wanted to hear her brag out of her ass that way he could report back to Mac that she wasn’t a reliable team member, and move on.
Gwyn’s brow furrowed, only a little, but enough for him to catch it before it was gone. Almost instantly, she replied, “I don’t think I’m any better than the other pilots. I don’t think anyone here is any better than anyone else. I just happen to have a great RIO, and we just happen to make a great team.”
Rooster nodded approvingly, but Jake tensed. That wasn’t the answer he wanted, not the kind of answer that was going to help solidify his feelings towards her and help him be done with all of this. So he pushed.
“You may not be better than anyone else here. Some of us are.”
The furrow in her brow was back. Alec sat up a little straighter, glancing between the two of them before interjecting. “Well, what makes you better than the rest?”
His response was instant, practically rehearsed. “I'm faster, I'm smarter, I'm just better.”
“Do you think I’m not as good as you are?”
The tone she spoke to him with was quiet, almost timid, and he knew he had hit a nerve. A better man would’ve pulled back, maybe apologized, and moved the conversation along. But he didn’t want to be a better man. He wanted to be rid of her and the tingling that was now spreading through his chest and down his spine.
“With all due respect, only one of us has actually completed Top Gun.”
“And yet, we’re sitting at the same table.”
Jake’s shoulders tensed at the challenge in her words. She was angry, and pushing his buttons. Had he deserved it? Sure.
Would he accept it? No.
“What are you implying?”
Her gaze narrowed before settling again, and when she spoke again her voice was distant. “Nothing, Lieutenant Seresin.”
She stood from her chair and left the room in four strides, quickly enough to miss the way his face fell at how she said his name, spitting it out like a curse.
Alec watched her go, and smirked. “We’ll see you guys tomorrow for drills.” And with that, he stalked after her.
Rooster sighed from beside him, clapping a hand on his shoulder, but deciding not to speak. Jake didn’t need him to, anyway. He knew was being an ass, but it was like he didn’t have control over his mouth or his feelings. He didn’t want this responsibility, didn’t want to lead a team. Even more, he didn’t want to lead a team with her in it. Didn’t want to think about the mission at hand and how it would affect not only his friends, but some kid who hadn’t even finished Top Gun yet. So if he had to bitch and moan his way into getting her as far away from this assignment, so be it.
It still didn’t fix the feeling in his chest, though.

what do you wish Vinnie would’ve had in the show?
favorite Vinnie dance move?
Oh boy, that's an interesting one. Well, first of all, a few smaller things like:
more songs, solo or a duet with someone, I especially crave Vinnie and Zoe duet. Songs where most/all pets sing are great of course, but often you can't hear each individual vocal hence I want something where I can hear him well. We all know he's a great singer B)
basically just more interactions with other pets apart from Sunil. I love my Vinnie/Sunil interactions of course, but after season 1 it seems those two just were glued to each other a lot and there was not many moments when he was interating alone with some other pet because they were always paired together
I'm not sure if that counts for your question, but there is one thing that I haven't seen anyone mention ever - his voice changed between first and second season, did anyone notice that and just never said anything or do I just pay too much attention to him? The voice actor remained the same of course, but it's like? A different tone? Really, if you compare Vinnie's voice from season 1 and any other season he sounds different and I'll be honest, I liked the season 1 voice more, so if it was up to me, I'd leave it like that.
I think that's all of the smaller things, I could maybe add here that I would personally redesign him a bit, but idk if that's what you're asking for so I'll leave it at that.
Now for bigger things that I would have loved to see with him:
this is a classic episode trope but I would have so loved to see it: Vinnie (stupid character [ugh]) by some means gets smarter (like a classic bonk on the head or something) and for an entire episode he and Russell compete against each other intelligence-wise, with Russell being considered the smartest pet Vinnie would want to beat him, and he does. Of course, by the end he somehow returns to his normal self and misses when he was smarter, thinking that he was much better than
another thing is from an actual epsiode, that episode being "Why Can’t We Be Friends?". When watching this episode for the first time I was so sure this was going to be Vinnie episode, with this beggining who could blame me, it pointed at that. Well, it turned out it was more so Sunil's episode, which tbh back then I was delighted about because he was then my favourite character. I still love him of course, but now, I would have loved if this episode (or some other one) was about Vinnie dealing with this whole "I want to eat flies and it's in my nature to catch them and because of my instincts I make a mess which pisses my friends" conflict.
While we're at it, also more emphasis on him being a reptile surrounded by mammals. There's a lot of potential here, you know? He could very easily get jealous of them: they're warm-blooded and so don't have to make double-efforts to be warm, which to him is a luxury; usually people like mammals more and think they're cuter, reptilies on the other hand are cold to the touch, scaly and sticky not all that cute; and what I mentioned before - they have families and he (maybe) does not. All in all, jealousy potential
speaking of which, I would have loved if there was something like that with his dancing. Let him be jealous, or even better - dissapointed when seeing someone else be a better dancer than him - someone who doesn't put nearly as much effort as he does and yet they're better. The thing is, there was very much an episode that could have easily done that - "Plane it on Rio!" when Minka was the one who lead the whole dancing part. It would have been so easy for Vinnie to have some sort of thought process that would go like this: "Wait, Minka is good at dancing and leading us? That would normally be me... A-And she never really dances, she's into painting, how come she's better than me?" or, different but similar scenario that plays with the same thing: one pet, let's say Russell, since in the "in the loop" episode he was shows learning other pets' talents, wanted Vinnie to give him some dancing lessons. So Vinnie does, but very soon he notices that Russell is better than him, he doesn't trip, and once he gains confidence in dancing after some practice he can do various moves easily. Vinnie has been practicing for years and it turns out that all it takes for someone to beat him are just a few days? Oh, the potential disappointment. I love it
Well shit, that's just a lot of angst, sorry :'(. I could probably go on, but I figured that's enough for now, I hope these answer your question because I'm honestly not sure xd.
Favourite dance move? Probably moonwalk, he did it a few times and I think it's great. But I also like when he breaks into some breakdance moves. There might be more that I can't think about on the spot, but if I do I think I will just reblog it and add it. It's important info after all :}.

what are some things rio couldve adopted to parallel beth's problem solving techniques?
Haha, Anon!!! Lol!!! I was actually wondering this to myself even as I wrote it, like, “What exactly would he have done to be more like her?” And I couldn’t think of anything good on the spot so I just shot that post out into the universe with no backup. So I appreciate this ask a lot because it’s making me think through what specifically could have been done differently. And I think my conclusion is that it probably weren’t overt displays of mimicry that would have done it for me. What I think I’m craving, are little-bitty subtle moments of Rio infusing his essence – his life performance – with just a touch of an Elizabeth flavor.
We see a lot of that changed essence in Beth. Her clothes, her technique, her not cutting her hair and allowing it to get longer because he said he liked it longer. This shot for shot, mimicking him exactly. But Rio stayed pretty true to himself. Mostly unyielding unless you’re really watching and reaching. The show could have made some tiny modifications that would have played into that final scene they were striving toward.
Like the scene where Rio gives his police statement in 4.02, for example. What a perfect opportunity to draw small parallels to 2.13, where Beth does the same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What a missed opportunity to insert that Elizabeth essence into him. “My name is Elizabeth Irene Boland…” would have gone amazingly with, “My name is Christopher Fblmplblm Hmlmphm…”
Would we not have lost our minds? It would have achieved so much! 1) Rio would have had a name. 2) This would have contributed to that humanizing aspect the show attempted to achieve for him in season 4. 3) It would have been an unmistakable Elizabeth move. Despite him never having seen her do it, him behaving in ways she has previously behaved would have cemented for the viewer their unmistakable likeness and destiny.
If I were in that writer’s room I would have done this. I also would have added a small act of hospitality to imply Rio mimicking Beth’s baking a million pastries for her impending arrest. Like, I would have had him offer the cop a cigar as he walked out or something. Not as a bribe but just as a sign of being a good “guest.” Make a joke of it. Rio could pull one out for himself and then motion to the cop in offering. Then say something like, “Don’t worry, I don’t smoke Cubans.” Still Rio, still his confident irreverence, but infused with that Beth parallel of being a good host/guest.
There were probably a million more similar opportunities. Having Rio say, “I’m a father!” at her, all incredulously. Acknowledge that he sees her go-tos and create a moment of intimacy and teasing around it. Recreate the PF Chang’s speech with Rio and Nick, where Rio explains why Nick shouldn’t have fucked with her. Throw in the restaurant reference for the callback. He could have even used the “You’re an idiot” line. He could have even done it in that scene where he was laughing at Nick after Beth and Annie tricked his assistant and stole his files. “Guess you ain’t the smart business man you thought you was.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m telling you, we would have lost our minds! It would have been so easy to do.
Basically, it didn’t have to be the big stuff. It could have been moments like, “You got it, boss,” where he acknowledges in increasing degrees of certainty throughout the season, leading up to that “boss” line, that he is like her and he’s choosing her.

Back again with questions. Only it’s about Mayans…as I said before I never returned after the s3 finale. I have bolded the questions because it somehow turned into a rant post as well.
1. Was Manny Montana being brought to Mayans worth it? OR was his addition a tactic to garner more attention back to the show?
With him being freed up from Good Girls, I keep thinking they brought Manny in because they know he can play someone who can fit into an outlaw role (ie Rio), but can also a lovable soft side (ie Johnny T). Ya’ll know I follow Manny from fan base to fan base, and love to see my guy booked & busy. But I’d hate to pick Mayans back up to find they’ve shoveled in a temporary character to avoid developing the old. My guess is he’s from the charter that showed up at the end of S3. So his character is probably just to fill in for S4 to distract us from the poor writing of S3. Probably won’t make it pass a season, kinda like how they used the prospect character for a bit and tossed him away in S3.
2. Do they ever focus on Miguel being Felipe’s child???
That storyline alone could have saved Mayans. I think Elgin could learn from “less is more.” I liked SOA and definitely noticed its faults BUT….You know our boy Kurt would have cut out all the extra “mini-shocking” storylines like Angel being a hoe (and disrespecting his momma’s memory by giving her ring to Nails), Coco’s trip to Meth Mountain (when he could have just been a father to Letty and adopt Mini), Ez and Gabby (Sutter would’ve had Ez pining for Em with them sharing some long lost love stares across town like Jax and Tara in S1), and Bishop’s dead son (I’m sorry but they could have used that screen time to develop Bish into a bad ass Prez. That “bad ass Prez” was implied when I just wanted to see Bishop fuck shit up). Used ALL that wasted screen time to develop Miguel into the central character opposite of Ez. How would this simple tactic develop a far more interesting plot than what we were served in S3? Miguel be the father of Adelita’s baby. Fuel source #1 to the fire in the ultimate brother show down. Angel has a reason to hate Miguel. Fuel source #2 to the ultimate brother show down? Miguel fathering another woman’s child…easy plug to push Emily back into Ez’s arms. Which would have given enough ammo to push the original premise of this being a battle between brothers….Fuel source #3 Miguel wouldn’t have chickened out of killing Emily. He would have had Miguel drown her. Not saying this because I don’t like her character. Just saying that Sutter knew one thing “less is more.” It takes a simple act to tip a characters motives and the plot. Prime example: Opie being killed lit a fire under Jax’s ass and started pushing him toward’s the main goal of Jax dying. If they had taken that route they could have easily killed two birds with one stone. Miguel would have finally “crossed the line” separating him from his father. They made big deal saying he wanted to be different from his dad, but in the next scene show he was a lot like the man he was running from. With Emily being dead Ez would have a motivation in the Miguel and Ez tension they pushed the entire first season, only to randomly leave it at the end of S1. My guess is instead, Elgin has Gabby killed because she was Ez’s love interest when I stopped the show. But if he did I as a viewer wouldn’t buy that as enough for Ez to tip like Jax did. He knew Gabby for what…a year??
3. Lastly, did Hank get away from Nails?
Male show runners love an age gap. I’m still salty they didn’t just give Miguel someone his age instead of someone as young as Emily. Danny Pino deserved better. I don’t know why they gave Hank that weak storyline of falling for a girl young enough to be his granddaughter. They should have given him an old lady his age. If you want to know what I miss about SOA…all the old heads had old ladies their age. Some Gemma’s and Luann’s would have sprinkled in our weekly spice of drama. You caught a glimpse of it with the shitstorms Dita was able to stir when she was alive. We needed some legit old ladies to save this plot man
4. Am I the only one who feels we were pitched an entirely different show than what we got?
I hate when shows deviate from the original plan. I came to Mayans the second I saw they added Danny Pino. Seeing him play detectives half his career let me know he was going to serve as Galindo (and he did all of season 1). Can’t believe this Danny Pino opportunity was wasted like that. I came for the deadly Galindo Cartel and poor writing served a half baked drug king pin and a MC that can’t get shit done because they spend all their time focusing on personal shit instead of securing the bag. For an MC that strives solely on the Galindo transactions, I didn’t see a brick of coke more than twice the entire three seasons I watched. Elgin tried to turn the Mayans plot into something poetic. Sir. People don’t watch shows like SOA for half baked poetry. We want you to stick to the outlaw shit. That other stuff?

One of the missed moments in Picard season 2, is after Seven gets re-assimilated they try to stop Soong's drones and it always felt like such a cop-out that once again the writers forget that Seven of Nine has engineering skills and can actually hack into things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bad thing about knowing a lot about a character in a crossover show is that -- you know the skills of the character.
It's like when Sam Carter moved to Stargate Atlantis and most of the problems that arose during her time in Command -- I can't help but think... but Carter can solve this, we've seen her do this a hundred times in SG-1.
It's the same thing during Seven's time in Picard season 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This part -- I appreciate what Raffi's doing but it's just out of character that Seven wouldn't suggest this too. I get that this could be a primitive system Seven's used to-- maybe but its still wires and computers.
But the director didn't even direct Seven to do anything to help Seven's just standing there
Tumblr media
And just... Ordering Raffi to go faster and not helping with the electronics or the hacking???
In her younger days, Seven would be mixing it up and helping Raffi. Even Rios was useful in piloting a rogue drone to destroy another.
And Seven is just standing there as moral support and telling them to move faster.
It's so out of character. Every time I get to this part in the rewatch of season 2 of Picard... I just can't reconcile it. More than the part where Seven becomes a badass who kills in cold blood-- it is the part where Picard seasons 1 and 2 disregard that Seven is a scientist and an engineer. At least in season 3 Picard gestures towards that direction with how she helps with the nacelle dismantling, and how Titan is said to be a well-oiled and maintained ship, something a ship's XO has a direct hand in.
Seven of Nine is not just a badass action hero, she is canonically one of the smartest beings in the Trekverse. It's not an opinion, it's a statement of fact. Seven helped create the Astrometrics lab.
And helped develop the Quantum slipstream drive together with B'Elanna Torres that's now being used in Star Trek Prodigy's USS Dauntless.
But sure, Seven is just standing there.
This Seven:
Tumblr media
Who was working in engineering despite being critically ill, and who would rather do something than nothing.
Is just standing there. Not helping.
Especially at this point in Picard season 2 when she's been re-assimilated. I wish Jurati!Borg Queen had placed Seven's implants in this version differently. It's not like the body Seven's has pathways for the implants. This isn't her body, this is President Annika Hansen's body.
We've seen that Seven can interface with computers with her assimilation tubules.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I make it work by rationalizing that despite looking similar to her old implants, the newly installed implants don't work the same as the ones she's had all her life.
And another way I try to work around it is that the computer systems are too primitive for her to hack even though the thing about Borg is how Borg can adapt to any system.
One other thing -- I wish again Seven had the space to really articulate how different it is for her to have a purely organic body. How, much she loves it-- the appreciation of color because her eyes and brain process visuals through a green filter. The sensation of everything.
It would also have been great, as I've mentioned in different posts if Seven also realized there were things about her Borg physiology she missed too: Eidetic memory, enhanced senses, enhanced strength. As well as the downsides of having Borg physiology: Susceptibility to the vagaries of technology, and how her joints sometimes misalign. Her different center of gravity without all the weight of the Borg implants and enhanced skeletal system.
Also, I wonder if Seven had any thoughts that they're trying to disable robot drones to stop an attack on Renee Picard when Seven used to be a drone herself.

Star Trek: Picard should’ve been about Seven from the start
Before I dive into my proposal, let me just say that I do not hate or even dislike Star Trek: Picard. I have enjoyed both seasons (not as much as Lower Decks or Prodigy but still). However I do think that they’ve kinda screwed with Picard’s character and that Seven has more potential for her story to continue. Just wanted to clear that up before I express my grievances.
IMO Picard’s character arc was pretty complete after Nemesis. He’d learned to accept every part of himself, both good and bad, so there wasn’t much left for him to deal with. So what did the show do with him? He learned to accept Data’s death in season 1 and learned to accept his mother’s death in season 2. Also he met Data’s daughters and got a Romulan girlfriend, which I don’t know how to feel about (I mean I like Laris, but I just keep thinking what the fuck happened with Beverly?!). While I can understand him having trouble accepting Data’s death, he should’ve accepted his mother’s long before his twilight years IMO (perhaps it could’ve been a movie plot, cause let’s be real nobody cares about insurrection). So ultimately I don’t see the point in him having his own show so late in his life. Just let the man live in peace!
Now onto Seven. Again, I do like what the show has done with her. While there are some things that I don’t agree with, overall I have enjoyed her development and interactions with the other characters. But there’s still a lot that hasn’t been explored concerning how she ended up the way she is in Picard.
What we know so far is that after Voyager returned, Starfleet refused to accept her into their ranks but did accept Icheb (which is complete bullshit btw). We know Janeway threatened to resign if they didn’t change their minds, but Seven gave up and decided to join the Fenris Rangers instead. At some point she became involved with Bjayzl, who apparently had a thing for Borg parts and harvesting them for sale on the black market (seriously Seven how did you miss that?). She kidnapped and mutilated Icheb, who Seven tried to rescue but ultimately failed at. And that’s pretty much it before she appears in the show proper.
Honestly that’s not a lot. While Picard has had his story pretty well fleshed out, there’s still a lot left to be told of Seven’s. Like how did she find out about the Fenris Rangers? How long has she been with them? And how the fuck have none of the other Voyager crewmembers checked up on her?
So yeah, if I were in charge I’d want to make Seven the protagonist of the show. Picard can still make an appearance (if we’re gonna deal with the Borg Queen I’m sure she’d want to involve Locutus). I’d still keep the cast of new characters, except maybe Agnes (I never really liked her). I always thought Rios was too much of a rogue to fit into Starfleet, so I’d make him a ranger too. Obviously I’d keep Raffi the same, as well as Elnor because they’re perfect. Soji can stay, maybe she could even stay an android/synth idk. Obviously I have ideas for the other characters, but I think I’ve made my point. Tell me if you agree or disagree. Do y’all like my idea for a Seven show?
Oh and btw, I’d call the show Star Trek: Ranger.

You are so right about the do you wanna die/kinda line being one of the most honest Beth lines ever!
(x)
Oh Heatherwax, hi!!!! How've you been? I've missed your asks! 😘
I mean... Canon has established since day 1 that Beth has a blatant death wish, oh yea please do go on, shoot me, let's see what happens, BUT, somehow she spends the entirety of the series claiming that she's a mother, I'm doing this for my family, for us, blah blah blah, so the dream sequence feels like an acknowledgment, finally, of what Beth really seeks out of this?
To be fair it's a little too on the nose that she then decides to call off Nevada, but this show has never exactly been super subtle, y'know?
Anyway I really like that she so earnestly admits that she kinda wants to die, her life makes her want to die, and I like how it's then echoed in ghost!Fitzpatrick's little speech, because he saw that in her right from the start, just like Rio did, and also it ties in with the line about dying if she has to make another cookie or something, which is something she says around the end of season 4 too if I remember correctly?
So I guess that what I'm trying to say is that since Fitzpatrick was introduced, there's been this slow arc of Beth coming to terms with the fact that crime has been a matter of survival at this point, because this perfect housewife life is slowly killing her, and that is not a temporary phase, and that this darkness that she has in her and draws her towards danger and death isn't a fad either but who she is, and it all culminates in the dream sequence because it's pretty much the first time she admits it out loud? (except for the cookie line but it was said in the tone of a joke)
And the reason I'm mentioning Fitz is that he's been portrayed as an evil version of her somehow, and he's kept telling her that they were the same, which makes him some sort of a script personification that's here only to hit Beth repeatedly in the head with the truth until she actually admits it.
Although I must say that most of the show and especially season 4 is very blurry in my mind, so maybe I'm garbling complete nonsense here, who knows 😅
