Chapter 2’s final part is finally here! The update is not a huge one, with 23k words worth of new content added to the game, but it wraps up the chapter and introduces you to what to expect from chapter 3.

Here’s an interesting stat, because I was curious with all the talk of sales for HOFAS.

HOEAB sold 42k copies its first week. ACOSF sold 95k copies the first week. That’s a 126% increase from HOEAB. HOSAB sold 308k copies the first week. That’s a 224% increase from ACOSF. HOFAS sold 361k the first week. That is only a 17% increase from HOSAB….

So, yes HOFAS was her highest selling book in the first week ever. However, sales did not increase anywhere near as much as previous books did. Which makes me believe that she is starting to plateau. I mean, 361k is a huge number and super impressive, nothing to really point at and say “she’s tanking!”. But imo, though, the number probably could’ve been even higher if it’d been promoted more. It’s not a great look to have arguably the most anticipated launch of her career not be a drastic sales increase like the others.

And yes, I know there were other factors that contributed to the big increase in sales between books, and 2020-2024 has been sort of an odd, almost unstable/inconsistent period of SJM’s career. So it’s hard to get a real reference. I’d be interested in going back further and exploring this topic more, but alas numbers for the past aren’t as easily accessible it seems. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting and wanted to share with the class :)

That's interesting. I do think that there was a huge influx of ACOTAR readers who wanted to read the crossover and were all hoping for something for themselves. Besides, with all the false advertising, and all the snippers and previews featuring Az and Nesta, I think many thought it would be very grand in terms of a crossover.

It wasn't.

I think subsequent books won't be as big. Since so many people don't like Elain, i dont think her book will be smashing any records.

But the numbers are very interesting. They'll have to do some seriously amazing spinning to get something similar for the next ACOTAR book because I personally dont know what it will be. Unless they stick Aelin in the book somehow.

Last night, I've finished revision #1 of my YOI post-canon story "Did My Heart Love 'Til Now", which means I deleted and added scenes, fixed bad phrasing and characters being out-of-character, and tried to flesh out plot and characters in more detail.

It took me three months to get there. In this time, the story grew from 246k to 308k, which is a quarter of the length of draft #1. Even though I cut stuff, my works tend to magically get longer during revision cycles because I add ideas along the way if I feel they enrich the story.

In the next step, I will tackle all the smaller and larger issues which I couldn't fix right away as they span across several chapters. I hope this will improve the story further.

My greatest concern, however, is the sheer amount of fluff and smut because of which the story drags on and that just... happened while I was writing. (Writing a contemporary love story that includes some sports drama is still new for me; my former fics all were multi-POV epic fantasy stories, and I still haven't figured out how to hook the audience in this new genre.) Besides the fact that draft #1 was poorly written and feels predictable and unspectacular, this issue took up the most of the time as it turned reading into such an ordeal.

Don't get me wrong, I want Yuuri and Viktor to be happy and in love, but a story that people actually enjoy reading needs some sort of balance. And this story isn't there yet. I hope that after the next few weeks in which I will agonise over my growing to-do list, I will see clearer.

(I will post this story after I've posted the final chapter of "Can You Hear My Heartbeat" as this one starts right after my novelisation. That is if I ever get there.)

flash floods are a little scary they happen occasionally near me and then i just- don't feel safe even walking outside even though the river is 30 min away. and it was a spuhura fic! it's *the* fic in the fandom. it's called The Place Between? it's absolutely incredible if ur into the pairing (i don't think you are? it's cool i've no real ship hatred/shame/whatever) -red

Well I live in an area that deals with hurricanes so it comes with the territory and usually it’s not too bad because we have a lot of built in safeguards but no one expected those floods last year because we never had rain constantly pouring flood-level rains for over a month straight.

Oh I haven’t read that fic from her but she IS a phenomenal fic writer. I never knew it’s 308k long though??? I do like the pairing (I even wrote a short fic that should be in my writing tag) so I will definitely leave it for a day I want a long, good fic. I have heard of it but I’m glad you got to read some amazing writing!

#ask #anon #red!anon #actually i've been kinda lax reading up on trek fic lately which wow is kinda bad but not lol i've been dancing along reading some other fan #fandom fics like yyh and dbz and hp so reading up on all the trek fic has been awhile unless it's like...beta-ing my friend's fics which I h #have been a bit lax too SORRY FRIENDS D:!!! but they understood so #but sometimes when i read stuff from other fandoms it'll inspire me to write fic for not only that fandom but other fandoms too like trek so #at least i haven't gotten rid of trek in my life (like i ever could lmao) since I watch voyager when it comes on TV so #yeah and I am a multishipper so you won't see any hate of that on my blog and i actually like their ship it is cute so yes T_T

nah the cool spell was unusual for this time of year i shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. i'm glad you treated yourself!! and i have zero judgment i once barely talked to anyone for 24 hours while i was reading this 308k fic. i was even reading it at work whenever possible aldfhaldskfjf i'm glad u might get some rain!! i miss it tbqh i want to stay inside and write while it's raining outside -red

I don’t mind rain but considering there are flash floods possibly going to happen… goodness. Though my most productive writing wise was when it flooded out badly for over a month and a half straight last year… wow. The flooding wasn’t cool and still dealing with aftermath today (Red Cross and other organizations had to step in and it was just a mess for the city) but being able to experience the 70s for almost a month during the summer was… amazing.

I love reading fics all the time and I will read them everywhere LMAO!! I know today I probably read over… at least 50K of words today? Maybe more? But a 308K word fic??? What was that? Now I’m curious.

#ask #anon #red!anon #i read pretty fast so that's another reason I can consume so many fics in so little time #i like the rain and writing when it rains but goodness yeah so many homes were flooded last year and I remember when the rain finally DID st #stop but then happened again around memorial day and because the ground hadn't been hard and other measures were worn down suddenly people g #got a resurgence of flooded out houses and WOW was that a mess i just yeah #so rain is cool but also i hope all the fixes the city has been doing to make efforts to stop flash flooding to stop being devastating will #work so yeah #seriously give me all the fic and all the good and long fic #i'm really curious
