speaking of “could/would rian even consciously approach fostering personal closeness out here” musing, did have the most [wow imagine an au] thought the other night like hit em with that “people who have Some relationship already as unknowing anonymized pen pals” like how about rian somehow realizing it’s winston a little ways into the (online?) exchange yet naturally it continues....making use of “winston posting on Embroidery / textile arts forums” lmao or at this rate like they Just shared a media analysis obsession, classic [just being online friends via some shared niche enthusiasm] like can’t even pwn winston like ha ha you autistic nerd of course you’d make friends more readily online where not only can people not react to their perception that you, in person, have this je ne hate quoi, but there’s also other ppl on your wavelength who are hanging online b/c they too enjoy such advantages of virtual interactions....when you are also making an online friend technically lmao. also i think if winston found out it’s rian he could be mad about that so of course it’s like, well a winning idea b/c potential for drama. what is this except a way to explore “for real, rian and winston are some kind of duo but what if they were / could be Friends For Real instead of whatever this is where rian can be both friendlier & meaner to winston than anyone else & he’s just kind of rolling with it as is his usual approach to everything from everyone” when naturally their sitting next to each other at work and talking apparently does not do the trick after like two years in their universe
#i just don't really think in terms of [considering some classique AU] in part b/c i don't try to write that much#even now i'm not presuming i'd manifest this. hence Go Ahead And Make The Vague Idea A Post lol#winston billions#riawin#in essence of course like you don't come here for the bounds between the Platonic and Romantic Relationship....#and of course the idea here like. rian being more comfortable with the not in person / anonymous vulnerability possibly#and where it's like woops here's this evidence of [liking interacting w/winston] isolated from whatever in person reactions to him#could of course make it a more tragique (or ambiguously so) shorter occasion where like and rian just doesn't let him know ever lol#although that would probably be easier if the online rapport actually ends....which is easy enough one way or another on her end#and Of Course there's potential for winston to at least once allude to rian To Rian lol...#talk about your own lives like well i'm not that popular at work; i kind of have a work friend who maybe also hates me more than anyone....#talk about tuk as well Alludingly like. don't mind your coworker sharing via how optimistic he is abt / how much he cares abt this fairly#new / not firmly established Friendly Work Acquaintanceship that ofc he's unhappy w/his existing work social situation / generally lonely#although again can't say he doesn't totally have outside of work math meetup type friends juuust out of frame laughing too. don't they all..

Formalwear | Kylian Mbappé
hey em! hope you’re well 💕could you pls write sth with my baby mbappe 😍 his gf runs her own enterprise and everyday she’s dressed formally and it turns him on so much. one day she shows up to his house in the middle of the night wearing a trench coat and nothing underneath 😈 and she’s really assertive and dominates him in bed for the night and he loves it. can you make it super duper smutty if poss 🥺
Warnings: a lil femdom, nipple play, cunnilingus, blowjob, light mention of edging
- - -
You walked out of the bedroom ready for the day, tilting your head to one side to put in your earrings. Kylian was already at the table eating breakfast, his eyes lighting up when he saw you.
“Good morning,” he said, giving you a quick kiss. “Busy day?”
“Yeah. Got an earlier-than-usual meeting followed by a presentation and then a very important meeting with a potential investor.” You were almost breathless recounting your upcoming day, excited for the challenges ahead.
“You’re going to look very sexy during that presentation. I wish I could be there.”
You shot him a grin, rolling your eyes as you poured yourself a cup of coffee to go. “Don’t worry - I'll give you the play-by-play later, as long as you return the favour.”
“Are you coming back here tonight?” Kylian asked, a hopeful look in his eyes.
“I wish,” you sighed, shaking your head. “I’ve gotta head home and make sure spiders haven’t completely overrun the place. You leave tomorrow for an away match anyway, right?”
“Oui, Le Classique against Marseille. I should be back by Sunday.”
You gave him one last kiss that held promise of things to come later. “I’ll see you then. Au revoir, Kyky.”
***
You watched Le Classique from your house, cheering on Kylian every time he got close to scoring a goal until he finally did. An idea sparked as you thought of ways to congratulate him when he got home.
Sunday evening, you stood in front of your wardrobe, surveying your options. Kylian was infatuated with all of your formalwear - pencil skirts, blouses, and of course, the lingerie you wore underneath them.
You took your time getting ready, showering before assembling your clothing and putting it on. Each piece was meticulously selected along with your perfume and jewelry. You slid on your favourite pair of heels and slipped your trench coat on for the finishing touch before walking out the door.
Kylian was about to go to bed when he heard a knock at the door. He opened the door, his smile growing wide as he saw you on the other side. “I thought you couldn’t stop by tonight?” He said, leaning in for a kiss that you didn’t grant him.
“Thought better of it,” you replied, stepping inside and reaching for the buttons on your trench coat. “And after the way you played, I figured you deserved a little treat.”
Kylian’s eyes lit up. “What kind of treat, chérie?”
“Sit down and I’ll show you.”
Kylian did as you said, spreading his legs so you could see the growing bulge in his sweats. “Don’t,” you ordered when he reached for his cock, smirking when he immediately pulled away. “Good boy.”
Kylian’s eyes were locked on yours as you sauntered over to him, undoing one button at a time on the trench coat. His tongue poked out to wet his lips as you bared your cleavage. “Nothing on underneath?” He asked in French, switching to his native language.
“Nothing,” you confirmed, getting to the last button and shimmying the trench coat off your shoulders and let it fall to the floor. You let Kylian drink you in, knowing how good you looked naked in just heels and thigh-highs.
Kylian swallowed hard. “I’ve been fantasizing about this.”
“I know.”
“Can I touch you?” He looked up at you, waiting for confirmation. When you gave it, Kylian reached for your breasts, running his thumbs over the hard peaks of your nipples.
“I think that’s enough,” you said, right as Kylian was about to put his mouth on your nipples. “Get on your knees.”
Kylian dropped to his knees, moaning as he did so. You propped one leg on the sofa so that your pussy was open to him. Taking his chin in your hand, you led him between your legs until his mouth latched onto your clit. You let out a moan as he licked and sucked at your dripping cunt, his fingers dipping into your hips for leverage.
“Don’t stop, Kylian!” You whimpered, gripping the back of his head to hold him in place while you rode his face as you came. The orgasm rocked you and you were grateful you had him to hold onto as you composed yourself. Kylian looked up at you and you leaned down to give him a kiss, tasting yourself on his lips.
You walked toward the bedroom, Kylian at your heels. He laid down on the bed and you took pleasure in getting to undress him, freeing his cock and taking his length in your mouth until he was a whimpering mess, begging to cum, but you didn’t let him.
“Patience, Kyky,” you chided, mounting him so you could ride him. “You’ll get to cum when I say so.”
You let Kylian give you two more orgasms before you let him cum, Kylian babbling his thanks as he came inside you.
“You’re going to spend the night, yes?” He asked, cuddling into you.
“You’ve still got my suit hanging in your closet, right?”
“Of course.”
You fell asleep in his arms, both of you wishing you didn’t have to get up for work in the morning.

Think fast!
Two reasons or more of why Cadina is amazing
what! oh fuck um
i am a toxic yuri enjoyer. i feel like when people think Regina and Toxic Yuri, their mind typically points to rejanis. and while i am a classique rejanis connoisseur, the toxicity in cadina is way more mutual, and thus sillier and more fun to me.
you cannot convince me that world burn isnt the ultimate "lesbian break up with a bitch you never even dated" song. ESPECIALLY the 2024 version.
they grow from each other... they have insane mutual understanding of each other ... there is not a single point in either movie where they dont want each other on some level .

Xiao Zhan held up a handheld fan to dry the slightly seeping sweat because of the filming. When the photographer signaled the start, he stepped forward, stepped back, walked forward again, and continued to retreat. The props on his back were like airplanes, his eyes were constantly searching for the camera, like a mischievous child exploring an unknown world. Every cycle back and forth, he was thinking about the more refined possibilities between advancement and retreat.
It’s hard not to notice Xiao Zhan’s sense of propriety. When being interviewed, he had a catchphrase: “Can I say this?” Or, as if to confirm himself, “I can say it like this, right?” He also reflects on himself constantly. For example, he would repeatedly remind himself not to let his performance become habitual. Once he would get used to it, it will develop into terrible inertia. For example, he would often emphasize that he did not like to be mysterious for the sake of it, he might not understand many truths, but he would share only his sincere daily feelings. Another example, when he heard a crew member commenting that he was always “striving for excellence”, he responded that he had not yet reached “excellence” and only wanted to “strive”.
Xiao Zhan spoke slowly and eloquently, he did not have a thunderous and fiery personality. He chatted calmly and had the demeanor of a benevolent gentleman. He was not tense at all as well. He chatted about varied topics and when he got to the point where he was enjoying himself, he naturally leaned back on the chair and gently held his right leg with both hands. The content of the chat ranged from the unchanging emotions contained in the classic songs of the times to artificial intelligence (AI), his views on human beings, as well as his own performances and life experiences.
In 2023, 3 television dramas starring Xiao Zhan broadcasted one after another. He played the colorful and vivid forefather, the lonely and cold crown prince, and the newcomer who struggled in the workplace. Every time he entered a drama group, he would dream, about real scenes and real pressure related to filming. After the dream was over, he would immerse himself into the heart of the character and perform it, leaving vivid memories and feelings.
There is a ruler in the heart and a measurement outside his body. Appropriateness is Xiao Zhan’s internal perspective, an accurate view towards work, life and he himself. Outside of the measurements is Xiao Zhan’s external perspective, the perceptive understanding of the past, time and space, and the world. Within the length of measurements, the heaven and earth appear naturally.

Within the Appropriateness: A truly lovable character will always have imperfections
3 television dramas have been aired and new dramas are being filmed. For actor Xiao Zhan, 2023 is a fruitful year.
Occasionally, when he looked back on his career as an actor, Xiao Zhan would be in a daze for a moment. In the blink of an eye, it seemed like he had been there for a long time. Almost every time when he filmed a drama, he always had a routine: dreaming. He dreamed about memorizing lines, dreamed about going through the scenes with the director, he would even dream about taking a math test, but could not solve any of the questions on the paper, then waking up with a start.

Xiao Zhan felt that this was caused by pressure, and he accepted it calmly. Perhaps there was another reason, deep down in his heart, he did not regard himself as an experienced actor, but always placed himself in the position of a newcomer, with an attitude of learning and exploration. Therefore, every time he would go to a drama group, he always had the experience of starting all over again.
Xiao Zhan was very wary of becoming habitual. Sometimes he would also advise himself not to give himself so much pressure, not to overthink, and to try to be more relaxed. But once he realized that he had started to rely on performance models, experiences and habits, he would again remind himself that taking things for granted would be dangerous. After a long period of habits, inertia would occur, and inertia would lead to “taking things for granted”. Therefore, every time he would interpret a role, he would always have to gain some freshness.

Xiao Chunsheng in “Where Dreams Begin / The Youth Memories” was a character full of freshness. Because, there were extremely obvious differences between him and Xiao Zhan himself. Xiao Chunsheng was a youth in Beijing in the 1970s, which was completely different from era and environment in which Xiao Zhan grew up.
Military coats, 28″ wheels bicycles, the ice surface of Shichahai, and the transformation from a youth to a middle-aged entrepreneur, all of these were not familiar to Xiao Zhan. To this day, there were still “traces” of Xiao Chunsheng in Xiao Zhan: when it came to the character Chen Hongjun in the play, he would always say “Hong Jun’er”. Those Beijing accents, the “er” epenthesis, the “aiyoeh” and “whoa” exclamations that he practiced when filming started were all words on Xiao Zhan’s lips.

The language, objects and period were still alright, but for Xiao Zhan, the biggest difference from Xiao Chunsheng was his personality. He is an introvert who enjoys being alone, while Xiao Chunsheng was the complete opposite, he would make many friends and overly loved to socialize. Based on today’s standards, this extreme enthusiasm often meant a lack of a sense of boundaries. “The times are developing faster and faster. Today’s youths are living a fast-paced life and will not easily cross the boundaries of getting along.” Xiao Zhan commented, “But Xiao Chunsheng is an extremely meddlesome person, so it is easy to offend others.” When he read the script, he was quite intimidated by this role and felt that it would be difficult to act him as a likeable person. But after hesitating for a long time, a thought suddenly caught his attention: perhaps, the qualities we were hesitant about today contained exactly what we need.
Tumblr media

Fresh and vivid, this was Xiao Zhan’s summary of Xiao Chunsheng and his contemporaries. “Hate is hate. Like is like. Don’t you think each of their colors are particularly fresh and vivid?” he asked. Even now, when thinking back to some scenes in “Where Dreams Begin / The Youth Memories”, he still felt that the characters were shining brightly, they were vivid and brilliant.
After playing Xiao Chunsheng, a person who was far away from current values, Xiao Zhan also gained something in terms of mentality: do not be afraid of making mistakes. He said: “A truly lovable character will always have imperfections.” During the filming, he once asked the director if it was particularly annoying for Xiao Chunsheng to worry so much about others. The director told him that it was precisely because of this “annoyance” that he was Xiao Chunsheng, and “annoyance” was his charm.

The director’s words suddenly enlightened Xiao Zhan, sometimes he would fall into a strange loop, hoping to avoid and correct the imperfections of the character. “When you change it like this, the character himself loses his charm.” Xiao Zhan said, “So I think I should not be afraid when doing homework for the character, if he is enthusiastic then he should be enthusiastic, if he crosses the boundary then he should. If I always have to consider the character’s shortcomings, thinking about what will happen if the audience scolds me, then it will be difficult to act.” Because, actors play characters, not personalities.

Not being afraid of flaws, to some extent, also meant the courage and ability to seek truth. “Sunshine By My Side” was Xiao Zhan’s first appearance in an urban workplace drama. His reason for taking on this drama was simple: modern dramas are too close to reality and everyone is living it, therefore it is difficult to perform it such that everyone believes it. Because he was not sure and confident, he firmly believed that he would learn something after “gnawing” it down. Thus, the character Sheng Yang came into being.
“Sunshine By My Side” made Xiao Zhan realize that urban dramas relied heavily on the cooperation between actors. Because it was more life-like, every detail would not be set in stone, and the lines and performances would be slightly adjusted. “We are all living people, we do not exist to maintain a persona. What everyone does, says and expresses, the emotions are all natural, reasonable, and flowing. If you change, my performance will also change accordingly.” Xiao Zhan said, this kind of creative coupling eliminates the possibility of actors being rigid and mechanical, hence it is a fresh and fun experience.
Tumblr media
Beige Knitted Polo Shirt Dark Brown Knitted Polo Shirt All are TOD’S Boucheron Quatre Classique series bracelet, extra large BOUCHERON
Sheng Yang was a designer, which happened to be the job that Xiao Zhan had done before. With personal experience, flexibility during performance could be guaranteed. “When Sheng Yang wanted to draw the design sketches, I would really draw them there. Sometimes I would tell them, art director, your layers seem to be locked and I can’t move them.” Xiao Zhan recalled, “Because it was my own life, so I was more skilled at it. Can I say that? Alright.” He never forgot his sense of appropriateness even when it came to his true feelings.
Xiao Zhan was no stranger to fantasy themed dramas. “The Longest Promise” was the most recent example. For him, acting in a drama with such an imaginary background requires a process of nothing to fruition. Facing a green screen, if he had to imagine extreme weather or breathtaking scenery, he needed to create it himself. As for whether his condition was realistic and whether the emotion was subtle enough, more often than not, he had to trust the evaluation made by the director behind the monitor.
Tumblr media
Beige Knitted Polo Shirt Dark Brown Knitted Polo Shirt All are TOD’S Boucheron Quatre Classique series bracelet, extra large BOUCHERON
Whether it is a ancient costume drama or a contemporary drama, Xiao Zhan always had a clear understanding when facing the script and characters. “At any one time, there are only a few good things, which is why people always say that they could only be discovered and not sought.” He recalled his observations over the years, “Some scripts may be considered good by the industry, but the market feedback may not be so good. What is everyone’s definition of good? Is it good sales or good word-of-mouth? It’s hard to judge.” Therefore, what he could do now is to return to his own understanding and feelings and choose what he thought would be the best roles. As for what role he wanted to play the most, Xiao Zhan said: “I have been mentioning it for many years, an adorable and charming villain, if I get the chance.”
youtube
Outside of the Appropriateness: The emotions between people have never changed
When reading the script of “Where Dreams Begin / The Youth Memories”, Xiao Zhan’s mind would be filled with photos of his parents when they were young.
Dad was riding a bicycle and mom was sitting in the back seat, wearing a red skirt and a white shirt. When passing a big rock, my father took a photo of my mother as a souvenir. She smiled brilliantly at the camera, looking like a bright girl. When it was his turn to play the role of his parents in their youth, he tried his best to restore the freshness and even rashness of youth, he did not want to deliberately portray the story in a rigid and stern direction just because it was a story about his parents’ generation.
Tumblr media
Goose yellow leather short-sleeved jacket Dark brown cotton and linen long-sleeved shirt Dark brown trousers Brown canvas and leather belt Brown leather loafers All are TOD’S
Regarding time, Xiao Zhan seemed to have a special sense and understanding. He was sentimental and nostalgic. No matter whether he would be singing in variety shows or event, or listening to them in private, he always had a preference for old songs. They were memorable, rich in meaning, and gave him space to think.
When he was a child, he did not have much pocket money, so Xiao Zhan would either go to the video store to rent CDs, or exchange CDs and tapes with his classmates. He could still remember the prices clearly even now. To this day, he still had the CD player and Walkman he used back then in his home. Sometimes, he would return to wired headphones because they are convenient and easy to find. In the dead of night, he would occasionally think of the things that were gradually fading in the torrent of time. He was alone, with his heart flowing, this was his comfortable state.
Tumblr media
Xiao Zhan said that he was a very homely person and when he had spare time at home, he would just work out or watch movies. He never regarded watching movies as a task, any genre, he would watch them all, regardless whether they were popular commercial movies or niche art films. Recently, he watched “Anatomy of a Fall”, which was the best film at the 2023 Cannes International Film Festival.
Around New Year, he would often revisit “Love Actually” and watch it again every two or three years. The reason was also very straightforward, the family, love, and friendship in the movie all conveyed truth, goodness and beauty, which warmed people’s hearts when watching them.
“Don’t you think that the emotions between people have never changed? Old movies will always be unearthed and watched, and old songs will always be repeatedly heard, because the emotions sung by truly classic works remain unchanged throughout the ages. Only sincerity can move people.” Xiao Zhan seemed to have a sudden inspiration and compared it with AI, “I think AI cannot replace humans. Maybe its technology can one day surpass the limits of humans, but that kind of complex emotions, humans far surpass computers. It can be said that humans are the most accurate, mysterious, and complex supercomputers.”
Tumblr media
Jack de Boucheron white gold and diamond long necklace Boucheron Quatre Classique series diamond ring large model All BOUCHERON Black shirt XANDER ZHOU
Xiao Zhan would pay attention to AI, just like how he would pay attention to all new things in the world that are deeply related to people. He watched the news and read things written by AI, the depth of thought and logic of thinking made him feel incredible. Perhaps, in some job competitions, the threat of AI to human beings would already be close at hand, but he still firmly believed that AI could not replace face-to-face communication between people, whether it is immediacy or complexity.
When these distant concerns about new things were temporarily put aside, Xiao Zhan also had his own expectations for the world.
When filming “Ace Troops” a few years ago, in order to portray the image of a soldier who was concerned with the nation, Xiao Zhan observed and trained in the army for more than a week. He got up at five or six in the morning every day and ate and lived with the soldiers. After performing this drama, he felt deeply about the cruelty of war and understood the hard-won peace. “I cherish my current life more, this is the truth.” Xiao Zhan said. Therefore, the current vision for world peace, might also be related to countless people in infinite distances away.

Regarding his own expectations, Xiao Zhan outlined it more simply: “I have done very well in 2023, I hope I can maintain it.” After thinking for a while, he added: “In 2024, I hope to love myself more, care more about my own feelings and thoughts. This sentence is not only for myself, but also for everyone.”

In Xiao Zhan’s heart, his person on screen is different from his person in real life. In private, he will not polish himself too much, nor will he dress too glamorously, he just wants to be natural and true to himself.
“Just like the current chat, similar to this comfortable state, just keep to it. I won’t change my face and portray another person.” Xiao Zhan said, “It’s too tiring. Too tiring.” He repeated twice.
A poet wrote, “My heart is slightly larger than the entire universe.” Outside Xiao Zhan’s appropriateness, there is the restraint of “simplicity” and the vastness of “universe”.

The Young Prima of the Bolshoi: Elizaveta Kokoreva
I have to preface this with the fact that I have been an avid Mariinsky watcher ever since my childhood. I grew up watching and studying the likes of Altynai Asylmuratova, Ulyana Lopatkina, Diana Vishneva, and Alina Somova. These dancers, to me, are the standard of classical ballet. The grace, the cleanliness of Mariinsky primas and the corps, has always felt transcendent. However, I have also found that Mariinsky dancers can sometimes lack passion and emotion on stage.
Bolshoi was a sharp contrast to this, as I found their dancers to be passionate and often, bravura. Sometimes though, in performing an exhibition of tricks (this, of course, is not exclusive to Bolshoi dancers), artistry and technique can get compromised.
Tumblr media
One dancer I have been watching since her days at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy is Elizaveta Kokoreva. I think it's rare to find a dancer who has impeccable technique, charisma, showmanship, and vulnerability on stage.
I think you all know by now that I am a stickler to rules. I don't care for extra turns nor extremely high jumps if dancers are unable to start and finish in fifth. I think Liza makes terrific decisions on when to add embellishments. I think she's perfect for the Bolshoi because she has THAT showmanship.

Surprisingly, of all the variations she has performed through the years, her dream scene from Raymonda always stuck out to me because of her precision. If you were to cut her movement frame by frame, she is always picture perfect. If you are familiar with Lea Salonga and her diction, Liza is her equivalent in ballet! The clarity in each movement, it makes each step feel so crisp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As always, there's still room to grow for prima ballerinas. Two observations for Liza, first is she's very controlled with her center. We can see how strong her core is from her balancing acts, those heavenly arabesques! Sometimes though, there are dances that require more softness and flexibility with the torso. Think, Ashley Bouder as Dew Drop for Balanchine's The Nutcracker. I think the slight stiffness can be seen in these steps from Grand Pas Classique and Coppelia. A more pronounced cambré would elevate the step.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second, everything feels monotonous at times. She's already very reliable in executing every step with precision; she adds embellishments mostly by holding a balance a second or two longer or by slowing down a movement like an Italian fouetté. I would love to see stronger accents here and there, almost like an exclamation point. See below, when she prepares for her series of pique turns at the end of the Kitri variation. It's very soft when it could use more force.
Tumblr media
Although it isn't pictured here, I think she has made significant strides in terms of artistry. She has proven to be versatile. I thought that her personality would be limited to more bravura roles, but I have genuinely enjoyed seeing her in Giselle and Chopiniana, and even more modern works like The Seagull and The Winter's Tale.
Tumblr media
I think a lot of dancers can learn from Liza. It is evident that she is a thoughtful dancer as all her movements feel so sure. For those of you who don't know, Elizaveta Kokoreva graduated from BBA in 2019 and is now a prima ballerina with the Bolshoi Ballet. She is, in my opinion, still an underrated dancer.

Can you explain how PDL is formatted, and what Crystal’s results mean?
okay sure! i'll try my best
so first of all there's the qualification. you send in a video of you doing classwork, so a short video of you doing basic class exercises at barre and at centre. this is pretty standard content for ballet video auditions.
from here, they accept 80 people - 40 girls and 40 boys. these dancers are split into two age groups and are divided by gender, so you have Girls A (15-16yo) and Girls B (17-18yo), and Boys A (15-16yo) and Boys B (17-18yo).
if you are accepted, you are expected to prepare one classical variation and one contemporary variation, both from a standard repertoire list. the classical repertoire is very limited as compared to yagp, adc ibc, ubc, and most other ballet competitions you might be thinking of. it also changes year by year, so you likely won't be able to prepare for it before being selected. (the repertoire list is released in november, and the competition happens in february). but generally, all classical variations are drawn from the standard repertoire. la esmeralda, grand pas classique, coppelia, etc - all names you would know. the repertoire is also divided by age, so the Girls A don't have the same difficulty as Girls B.
unlike yagp, adc ibc, etc - the contemporary variations at prix de lausanne are also drawn from a repertoire. I believe it also changes by year. they have different choreographers they work with who contribute to the list every year. these choreographers upload videos of their variations and competitors will choose one and learn from those videos in preparation for the competition.
so, at the competition, you will perform your classical variation and your contemporary variation, after taking some classes and coaching sessions from some great teachers who work with prix de lausanne. I don't believe they're being assessed at this point, but first impressions count I guess and apparently the feedback is invaluable.
after this first competition round, they go to the final round, where the numbers go from 80 to 20. these 20 finalists will perform the same variations they did in the first round.
from here, they will pick prize winners. I think the number of prize winners changes year to year, but I'm not sure if it depends on the competitors' abilities or just the number of sponsors they can find. I'm pretty sure they only had 7 winners last year and this year there are 9. not sure why, but it seems to vary!
the prize winners get to choose any ballet school of their choice from the list of schools that partner prix de lausanne, and they will receive a full scholarship to that school. prix de lausanne's school list is pretty extensive. john cranko, royal ballet school, paris opera ballet school, etc etc. vaganova used to be on there until the war. on top of a full scholarship, they get 20,000 CHF to cover living expenses.
prize winners who are 17 and above can also opt to choose not a school but a company, because pdl also has a list of partner companies that is very impressive. so they effectively get free acceptance to that company. they also get the 20,000 CHF!
finalists also have a networking forum/audition class/I forgot what it's called but they get to audition for a lot of company directors while they're at prix de lausanne. i believe finalists also get any free summer intensive of their choice (from pdl's school list of course).
so what this means for crystal:
- she has effectively ranked in the top few ballet students in the world, in both classical and contemporary!
- she will likely be leaving the competition circuit as of this year. anything she's won will be for the 24-25 school year. from what I've seen in previous years it is very unlikely she will come back even after the year is up. even though pdl's scholarship only lasts a year, you'll hardly ever see anyone who genuinely only goes for a year. they will almost always stay on, or just transfer to another full time ballet school if they can't for whatever reason.
- effectively she's made it. she might still do nationals to finish out this year but that's about it.
- her choice of school will likely be announced (if not by her, then just by pdl) in upcoming weeks.
all in all it's bittersweet but it's so rewarding to see her chasing her dreams and accomplishing all she wants!

Hi ballerinaaa! How hard is grand pas classique? it is quite the talk how challenging the variation is.
This variation is tough, easily one of the hardest in the classical repertoire. It's a stamina challenge, not so much in terms of crazy bravada, but in terms of the sheer # of releve's. Your calf muscles are screaming even before the famous diagonal of ballonees. The choreography is also quite exposing for the dancer, with body angles that are hard to keep turned out, and intricate transitions. Stylistically, the variation needs to be confident and crisp, authoritative but charming- not the easiest thing to convey when the choreography is a bit terrifying. Especially with students, you'll often see them walk on with one of two emotions: fear or overly aggressive 'I'm gonna nail this' gusto- both miss the mark for me.
Let's start with the first section, obviously the easiest. I like to watch the depth of the plies out of the pas de chat and into the different releves. The strongest dancers, and the one's with the technique to really shine in this variation, will have their heels firmly, safely pressed into the floor any time they get a chance.
I haven't performed this variation but remember having a master class on this variation with Jurgita Dronina. She stressed the importance of musicality and footwork in the first diagonal. Your arms are trying to sustain your legs, float the attitude and en dedans turns, and really sing the melody. To keep you balanced, she told us to think about our legs and lower body acting as the bass, the accompaniment. Yes, you need to float the balances and coordinate your body but not excessively. Each plie should be measured right on the notes, this becomes easier if your feet are stepping precisely in the rhythm of the piece.
Moving on, the jete's going up the diagonal should have actual height- this is still a jump even though it's the preparation for a developpe. It also should create a feeling of spontaneity, the releve out of the jump should be lightly unexpected. Afterward, one of the most difficult sections is the consecutive turning releve's in attitude into a big battement to the side. It's a fatiguing moment, but the leg should remain at the same height, not a bobbling up and down attitude. Watch also how the leg transitions from attitude, to coupe, to a la seconde.
Now on to the ballonne's that made this variation famous. It's supposed to be done on the croisé line, with the leg crossed to the audience. You may see it done on the effacé line to favor a stronger supporting leg or to make it a bit easier to keep turnout. It's an exhausting step, but also a great way to see how well someone has been trained and how strong their turnout is. When they do the ballonne to the side, they should plie with the leg in a la seconde before going into the turn. What often happens is that dancers will 'cut' the ballonne short and plie with their leg in either sur le cou de pied, or retire passe, before pushing up to turn. Most professional dancers aren't cheating at 45 degrees, but when the legs 90+ for the second set....things can get wacky. Watch for that plie, and the turnout of the supporting leg, as well as the stability of the spine. Here's two examples to consider, specifically comparing the diagonals:

And finally, consecutive tour pique is not terribly difficult on its own but it's somehow so much harder to do (and to finish) at the end of all this, especially for those who are trying to make it really exciting by nearly jumping them and throwing in a double to finish.
