they managed to massacre Aang's character and all the struggle and importance of his choice in the finale in a SINGLE page, and yet there are people who think the comics are good

and of course Katara's would have nothing to say on the matter, toootally in-character

Not to mention: yes, Zuko is right that a lifetime of indoctrination won't magically stop affecting him just because he's aware of it now, but the way the comics really said "If you're not perfect, you deserve to die. Not rehabilitation, not even incarceration despite it being an option, just straight to violent, lethal punishment" is horrying.

And lets not forget the blatant abuse apologism of having Zuko, the kid who was told by his abusive parent that his disfigurement and banishment was "for his own good" after he made one "mistake", turning to his closest friends and asking them to be his "safety net" by MURDERING HIM IF EVER STEPS OUT OF LINE - and said friends then agree to it.

Are you fucking kidding me? The real Aang would have double-down on the "You're NOT your father" bit, and the entire friend group would have been super concerned about Zuko because a victim of abuse saying they're as bad as their abuser thus deserve to die is one hell of a red flag as to how their mental health is going.

Speaking of mental health: I talk a lot about how Azula was constantly being abused by the supposed heroes in the comics, and how the justification of it is rooted in ableism, but this nonsense with Zuko asking to be put down like a dog is also peak victim blaming, and one of the few moments in which one can actually feel bad for comics!Zuko.

And it ties into a disturbing pattern I noticed among Avatar fans - and mainly Zuko fans. They don't truly understand that what Ozai put his children through was wrong, they simply think he chose the wrong kid as the escapegoat. They think Azula should have been the one that is constantly punished just for existing, while Zuko is the golden child that can do no wrong - or else.

This moment right here? With the people that he trusts agreeing to inflict violence on him if he ever makes a mistake? This is that "or else". This is literally the same mentality that led to Azula's breakdown because NO ONE CAN SURVIVE UNDER THAT MUCH PRESSURE.

And that leads us to the main reason why the comcis suck: Yang was using Zuko as a self-insert.

"Zuko‘s relationship with Ozai is something we – Mike, Brian, Dark Horse, Nickelodeon, and I – talked about extensively when we first started working together. There’s this strange thing that happens to people in power. The pressures of power often blur the lines between enemies. That’s part of what happens to Zuko here. Ozai is the only one who knows what it’s like to be Fire Lord, the only one who has the wisdom of experience. I also looked at my own life. I used to clash with my dad quite a bit when I was a teenager. However, as I grew up and found myself in roles that he used to have, I began to understand more and more of his decisions. My father isn't thoroughly evil, of course, but I imagine Zuko feels a little of the same pull."

Yang. My guy. My dude. The words "Ozai" and "wisdom" should NEVER be in the same sentence. Every single action of Ozai's as Fire Lord was based on him being an abusive piece of shit that finally got access to absolute power. He is not a stern dad, he is abusive. He's not misunderstood, he needed to be stopped and locked away. He is a human being with feelings and motivations, yes, but he is WRONG ABOUT LITERALLY EVERYTHING EVER. He NEVER had a point. Zuko has nothing to learn from him except what NOT to do. That's why he looks like an older, unscarred Zuko. A version of Zuko that never changed.

This is the core issue of the comics, and why it had so many moments of unintentional abuse apologism: they say Ozai is a villain, but they're going out of their way to constantly make the characters come dangerously close to saying "Maybe he had a point." That's why they have Zuko turn to Ozai for advice despite claiming he wants to avoid becoming like him - because the guy writting them couldn't understand that the bad guy was, in fact, bad and in the wrong and has no wisdom to offer to anyone.

Avatar, the series, is about the world moving past from the sick mentality people like Ozai had, and about his son realizing that he did not deserve to be abused. The Avatar Comics are about telling Zuko (and others) "Ozai isn't wrong actually, you'll understand when you're older."

No, Yang, they won't. Because there's nothing to "understand" here other than THE GUY THAT ABUSED HIS CHILDREN AND COMMITED GENOCIDE WAS WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING, YOU DUMBASS!

Saying "the villain had a point" does not make a story better unless it is true - and in Ozai's case, it simply isn't. Insisting otherwise doesn't make the story and characters more mature, it just means you couldn't understand a cartoon aimed at 7-year-olds despite being a grown-ass man.

And I won't even get into Bryke approving of this bullshit otherwise I'll start tearing my hair out in rage at how badly they seem to have lost touch with the message of their best work, so let me just use a simple statemet to make everyone understand just how much of a disaster this is:

Even M. Night Shyamalan didn't misunderstand ATLA to the point of thinking Ozai wasn't actually wrong, but Bryan, Mike and Yang did. The comics understand the show less than M. Night Shyamalan did.

I rest my fucking case.

Sanrio girlyy (my Melo is her favorite fs)

Since she and Zen share a lot of things in common regarding personal upkeep, humor, & the arts, they instantly clicked. I like to think of their relationship as pretty fun and lighthearted! They see each other as equals but r sooo competitive in the best ways-especially when it comes to gift giving or dates! I think of them as ppl who do anything & everything for each other & are as open as possible about it! Idk they're cute & i thought they were the best pair to post around Valentines season <3

!!! okay I can't tell if you're asking this for fanart reasons (EVERYONE SHOULD FEEL VERY FREE TO DO THAT) or for spank bank "my thirst requires an accurate theater of the mind" reasons (VALID) but

this makes me UNHINGED and i plan to be SO THOROUGH so THANK YOU FOR ASKING

i have put this under a cut to spare you all but i think you should click on it and admire the gilded age urchin chic

first of all, let me say that Newsies Are Beautiful. They have never met two clashing patterns they didn't want to combine and I think they are perfect in every way

that said

the classic Jack look could certainly use some tailoring before it's truly ready for the Yang prime time

these numbered fellas give us a better place to start when it comes to I WANT MY NEWSIES TO NOT BE SWIMMING IN CLOTHES TWO SIZES TOO BIG YES I KNOW THE VERITAS OF THEM SCROUNGING FOR WHATEVER BUT ALSO. THIRST.

Fella 1 is a pretty bang-on Yang and you can tell that was his intention because he's growing out his hair, bless. sleeves rolled to show arm, shirt unbuttoned scandalously to show cleavage, open vest, neat cap, high socks. the lower half does lose points for the striped socks that remind me of the Wicked Witch of the East's feet sticking out and the fact that he's clearly in tap shoes as opposed to work boots like his friend Fella 3

Fella 2 gets EXTRA sock points for the argyle and the vest-but-no-collar combo which is very Nora. He also has a neat cap, which Blake always does because she's hiding her ears.

Fella 3 has a sloppy cap but is otherwise a bang-on Blake; kempt and tidy in ways Yang never is even though they are essentially wearing the exact same thing. Blake knows how to button buttons and Yang pretends she forgets every day

Fella 4's rocking the henley and suspenders combo which serves any member of our cast, a fucking classic

Fella 5 is wearing a tie he is trying so hard he wants to look nice at work, 100% a Jaune move

sir that-- that's not how crutches are supposed to-- SIR--

this Crutchie exhibits excellent Newsie styling in a very Yang color palette. high socks, mixing of patterns, rolled sleeves; excellent. the slightly fancier waistcoat, actually buttoned, isn't something Yang would go for but certainly wouldn't be amiss on Blake, Ruby, or Velvet

Ruby also, of course, wears a signature red scarf instead of her cloak:

like her scarf and hat just absolutely dwarf her, she's WEE SMOL

above we see our previous example Crutchie not leaping through the air, and his outfit remains exemplary but for the backwards cap, which I shan't abide. the Jack to his left-- what with his WIDE open shirt, tight undershirt, rolled sleeves, and suspenders, is very Yang.

good Yang looks can also mean THE SHORTEST SLEEVES EVER, TO SHOW OFF THE GUNS:

both excellent choices, and of course our lower fella (TURN THAT CAP AROUND YOUNG MAN) has got his bandana going, which is Quite Yang

all the guys in the background there are gold too tbh

look at this king in this fashion pose but also YEAH WHY NOT BANDANAS ON THE ARMS BANDANAS EVERYWHERE the yang xiao long story

^^ this outfit, on the other hand, is pretty exactly spot-on for Blake immediately post haircut/makeover

Weiss, I'm sure you've already guessed, is a Classic Katherine:

she's buttoned-up, she's fancy, her shit matches and she's the only one in a skirt.

the only thing where my brain gets REALLY SPECIFIC is the finale so uh. spoiler warning I guess for screenshots of the Newsies film and vague references to a plot resolution if you're reading the AU without having watched it

but the finale looks are ICONIC and non-negotiable

button shirt OVER henley OVER bandana and nothing's buttoned? suspenders on but hanging loose from the hips? hell yes.

i actually even managed to make that dirt smudge on David's tummy plot-relevant to Blake and that was completely subconscious and I didn't realize I did it until looking up these screenshots but there you have it. and by this point Weiss gets to be a little more loose and dressed-down, a la Sarah

in conclusion they're in love look at those heart eyes oh my god

"just give me a sec!" * struggles with html to code the color i want, gives up, & conks out * ,, srry there aren't a lot 💔

no set age range, he's just a little guy! he doesn't rlly care for putting an age to his regression anyway; it's his time to just mess around & be silly! however, out of him, robin, & jonathan, i would say he has middle tot energy..?

little guy loooves horror media! nightmare on elm street, halloween, gremlins ... relatively anything horror related he's making grabby hands at, buuut he needs to watch something a lot less extreme if he wants to sleep well at night o(╥﹏╥)

he only has three pacifiers in his possession (two of which steve purchased, one of which eddie impulsively stole bought himself), & all of them have been chewed on ... every single one of them, some more abused than the other. he has some little teethers lying around too to stop that, but he prefers his pacis (& his hair ಠ_ರೃ gross)

one time he chewed on his figures for his dnd set and broke one. he cried the entire time steve fixed it & never did it again. he plays with his dice now, rolling them over and over and over again for almost no reason; he uses them to make decisions sometimes

"if i get a six, i caaaan ... get some more ice cream!" - "eddie, youve already had–" - "I GOT A SIX!!! i get more ice creeeam!!" - "eds–"

his favorite game is hide-n-seek, bc he thinks jumping out of his hiding spot to scare the seeker when they get close is the funniest thing in the history of ever. he cannot handle what he dishes out tho – robin copied him once when he was the seeker & his scream startled jonny into tears. nooot a good way to wake up from a nap

bc he chews on his hair so much – and also bc it's simply curly hair & it's so easy to mess it up – he needs to have it washed somewhat frequently. nancy usually helps him with that bc she has curlier hair herself & knows how to care for it, & man. he loves it. she knows how to comb his hair without yanking and massages his scalp during the entire washing process & it feels so gooood!!

he shakes out his hair like a dog when it's wet, no matter the reason. nancy's gotten drenched after every hairwash; at first it was minor annoyance – she even got slapped directly in the face by his hair once – but now, when she gets done, she goes "are you gonna shake out? go ahead and shake out!" & she covers herself with the towel while he shakes aaaaall out (*´︶`*)ฅ♡

for the most part, he takes off his rings when he's beginning to get small – he's not as uncoordinated as robin, but he's definitely not as steady on his feet as big him and one wrong fall could leave him with a ring imprint on his face – but he keeps one on each hand, just bc he can >:3 robin gave him these fake rings to wear as replacements & sometimes he forgets to take them off after he's unregressed 💀

potty mouth. lots of "fuck!"s when he's scared & "shit..."s when something goes wrong. it's not the biggest problem in the world bc eh, it's just a few words & his friends also aren't saints when it comes to said words (but robin & jonny likes to tease him by going ">:0 eddiiie, don't SAY that! ... what the hell, eds..." & ":0 eddie, das a no-no word!", but they also rlly don't care hshejwjd) but the day he got jonny – the least talkative regressor out of them all, mind you – to say the word fuck on accident in front of nancy? (((;゜Д゜))) "ed–" - "IT WAS ROBBIE!" - "NUH-UH!" - "YUH-HUH!" - "NUH-UH!!" genuinely nance wasn't even upset 😭

eddie & robin get into the "nuh-uh, yuh-huh!" arguments & steve and nancy have had to help them come to a conclusion all the time – it wouldn't be a playdate if they didn't

playing with his hair gets him to sleep so so easily. he's being stubborn about sleep? is he saying he's not sleepy even tho everyone can tell he toootally is bc he's yawning & his blinks are getting longer? tie his hair up repeatedly for a good little while & you'll start hearin snores

he sleeps like a log too, so if he conks out in a tangled position on the top of the couch, someone is going to have to carry him to bed bc jostling him isn't gonna work. he falls asleep on steve all the time & he just lets him even tho he drools pools on his shirt
