To be honest, I barely had any time to think this plan through.

I was supposed to go to Europe with Seiji-san in order to complete my rite of passage as a demon hunter, a trial set in order to test apprentice hunters and allow them to work independently from their masters.

Though, I ended up overhearing a few clergymen talk about how Yui was chosen as the next sacrificial bride.

Haphazardly, impulsively, I decided to take her place.

We’ve only ever spent time together once, but she’s a good kid. She deserves better.

It won’t be too bad if I went in her place, anyway. I’m the unwanted child of the church—considered a demon for reasons I can’t understand myself. 

For as long as I remember, I was the child of the devil, trained to kill demons, a twisted sense of irony.

Despite all my training, however, I’ve never been able to kill a demon without any remorse. I always hesitate. I’ve never killed without crying afterwards.

“You’re a coward, you can’t bring yourself to kill your own brethren.” What a ridiculous train of thought. I’m human, after all.

Yet, my own empathy was punished constantly…

— The flashback ends.

Kayo: ( That’s right, I was going to pretend to be the sacrificial bride instead. But when I saw that blond man sleeping on the floor… )

( I thought, wouldn’t it be a better idea to get rid of these guys, so no more girls would be sent here? )

( But in the end, I stopped myself… I’m just a coward, after all. )

( Now I’m surrounded by the vampires I only heard of from stories… )

Since the concept of “Adam and Eve,” and therefore also “Lilith,” were not introduced at the time of Haunted Dark Bridal, Kayo is referred to as “Hunter,” while Yui would have been “Bride.”

Secondly, with the context that you already played at least once as Yui, Kayo’s prologue shaves away stuff like not knowing their names, not knowing they’re vampires, etc. It’s both a meta joke and also because Kayo herself knew all of this before entering the mansion. I hope this revision isn’t too jarring, it helps cut away a lot of unnecessary fluff!

16 - What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag?

"Other Additional tags to be Added" is the official one because it usually lists that when I type in "additional tags" anyway. But I find this question confusing. As far as the tags that I add after the additional tags tag, it's probably "Mixed Media Storytelling", which is one that I made and it isn't official, but I try to stay consistent. I almost always forget to add it when I include music or pictures that add to the experience of the fic. In fact, I just double checked to make sure KKII had it, and it does. XD

17 - Your favorite character to write this year?

I was gonna say Shuu, but then I remembered "Seeing Red". I gotta say, Red Eye was surprisingly easy to write despite him being a nonexistent POV in the AC fandom. XD And I'm very proud of it.

The reason I would've said Shuu is because he's more of a challenge than Karma and Nagisa. Karma and Nagisa really feel like Stag and Deshi to me sometimes, so the only thing I have to worry about is making sure Karma and Stag don't sound the same, and that Nagisa and Deshi don't sound the same. I don't have a Shuu-esque OC, so it's fun to try and get in his head and it's a bit easier than it was to be Kyoko or Rio in Students of Despair. I guess I just have a preference for being boys. 🙄😅

18 - The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

Kyoko. I always wondered if I made her smart enough, and while it may have fit the character that I recreated in Students of Despair, some of the comments got to me because it was a worry I already had. I really struggled with what her knowledge base was because it felt like I was leading her train of thought too much, whether it was towards or away from the truth it was always a conscious effort, which made her feel inauthentic. It's hard to convey a really intelligent character sleuthing correctly while I already know the answer. So many times I asked myself "but did she find this out through deductive reasoning, or did I just give it to her?" And the end result was making her somewhat slower than her character was in the game.

Or maybe I'm overthinking it. But seriously, that shit was hard. Karma was easier in ASR R3 because I didn't know what the challenges were going to be like until I got there.

29 - Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

This is such a hard question, and the reason I'm taking a moment to answer this ask because I'm going through all my fics and trying to think of what's most memorable so I can find my favorite line/passage in all of it. (I wrote so many words this year! 😭)

Notable lines so far:

[Nagisa emerges from the bathroom, pale as a ghost. “Did we get ‘im?” He weakly asks, collapsing onto the ground.

You moved your hand towards the part of his leg which was sprained and saw that he flinched. Clearly he was in pain and seeing that he took care of one of the guys who was hitting on you felt bad so you took him to your house to treat his injury no matter how much he refused.

That was it. That's how he fell for you.

He expected himself to fall for someone who was at the same level of genius as him, but apparently he was wrong.

Why you ask he fell for you? Because you were the only one who can kick his ass purple and speak sweet words to him at the same time.

Seeing that you were an average student, not too good not too bad, he didn't really have a problem with sharing his feelings for you with someone.

The first one to notice it was not Ren, but Karma. Or you could say that Karma found his theory to be correct as he eavesdropped on Gakushuu telling Ren about how he felt for you.

Ren, knowing his manipulating skills encouraged Gakushuu to manipulate one of the teachers to transfer you from class C to class A.

And so you did.

Gakushuu, Ren along with Karma and you. This was a particularly chaotic classroom.

You weren't really complaining, as your grades got better the day you stepped in the class. But you can't shake the feeling that ten pairs of eyes were watching your every movement.

Gakushuu only respectfully watched you and your subtle movements. The way you'd chew on your pencil or nails when you were stuck, the way your eyes turned big round and innocent every time you didn't understand a concept, the way you'd pick on your peach fuzz on your face when you were anxious. Every single habit, every little thing he loved about you, he would have it memorized. Heck when he was feeling stressed out about his future company finances (yes he's planning big) he would pick on his own peach fuzz and smile like an idiot as his heart relaxes and flutters at the same time.

Ren however, watched for your responses to guys. Every time the handsome professor walked in, (admit it, we all have one at some point in our life😏) you would sit up straight, your spine rid of any slouchiness from studying. The way you would cross your legs so your skirt rides up just a bit, and the way your gaze turned sly and your smirk naughty, yes this boy is serious about helping his best friend. Heck he would even come up to you and talk to you to get some type of reaction towards him, but figures out you didn't really like him (ouch!😢)

But Karma stared. And by stared I literally mean stared. Bore holes in the back of your head by staring at you too much. He didn't understand that a guy as corrupt as Gakushuu would fall for a disheveled angel like you. It's not that you weren't beautiful, but the combination of scary principal's son and a smol fluffy bean didn't seem very safe. At times you would even find Karma behaving as an older brother to you. And you weren't one to complain but rather happy that someone in here truly cares for you than judge you for your grades.

Add 7 other girls who were suspicious of you and that's all the people who keep staring at you during the time you're in class.

Every morning you hand in your homework, it was always Gakushuu. You would hand in your homework, he would scan it once and turn around to check others'.

But you knew better than that.

After school was over, you would make your way to the hallway but a strong grip held you back.

"We need to work on your Social Studies. You suck at it."______"But shuu!!!"_______"No buts. Get in the library and wait for me there."

The kiss wasn't heated or passionate in any way, but it was sinfully sweet.

It lasted for about a minute, but felt like an eternity.

Pulling away he stared at you again softly before saying "Thank You" and intertwining your fingers with his.

If you see this as much of a game as Ayato does, good for you, because the more you can hold your ground, the more equal to himself he sees you and the more friendly he’d be.

As for your drawings, if you were to show him one, he’d really try and take the time to look at it and appreciate it. But again, after agonizing minutes of silence, his god complex would kick in and he’d point out all the little things you could have done better in his opinion.
