***Spoilers for Zombies, Run! Season Five***

Hey fam, Long time no see! I am alive!! I cut off all my hair! If you missed it, I'm using they/them pronouns pretty much all the time now, and have come out as nonbinary to my core group of humans. She/her is still cool if we've talked about it, but otherwise I prefer they/them! I also highkey want to punch Ian motherfucking Golightly in the face. He BETTER go fucking lightly from now on I sWEAR. I literally did not think he could do something to make me hate him more than I already did and here I stand at the end of today's episode proven very wrong because god have mercy on him if Sara is waiting for him in the afterlife after all he has fucking done to us.

But yeah. Last time I posted was way back in episode seven. And obvs now I'm in episode 18 so a LOT has happened. Mainly I'm now back in Abel and pseudo working for the Minister. But also everything that happened prior to that with Amelia betraying us betraying her betraying the Minister was hilarious as hell. At the time I remember texting Catty absolutely FURIOUS with Amelia for betraying us to the minister, but as always Janine was thinking five steps ahead of me and everything worked out exactly like she planned.

As for me getting mildly kidnapped and then put in jail with Steve being like "Just play along and be Sigrid's little loyal pet so we can break into the labs under Abel and stop her from doing exactly that so we can take Abel back", I was suspicious as hell and very lenient about this plan. Mostly because I didn't want anyone in Abel to think I actually had betrayed them, but knew I was going to have to play the hell out of that part to make Sigrid believe I had turned. I of course trust Steve very very much (which like damn this app making me have so many feelings about the same character. If you had asked me a couple months ago my thoughts on Steve they would have been the exact opposite).

When we went out after Owen, I was half convinced Tom had actually slipped into one of his episodes, so when he actually leaned close and whispered in Five's ear as gentle as could be, I did a double take as he slipped the stuff in my pocket. Him and Janine bring me such joy as characters, when they work together I really admire them both. I'm really glad we got him out.

I'm really upset with Ian. I knew it was a bad idea to leave him in charge when Sigrid left. I knew it was a bad idea letting Steve take the blame for being the traitor. I just. I didn't expect him to do this, as much as I hate the guy, this was farther than he's ever gone before and. It's just really sad because like. Five was there when we met Owen, saving him from the tracks when Sara left him. They were there when Amelia was on her bullshit and set him on fire. They were there when he got shot in the leg and they helped get him back to Abel safe. They've always been there, and we were *right* there this time too. And it all happened so fast there was nothing we could do. It just breaks my heart. Can Five get a little break from the trauma, as a treat? Can they please stop watching everyone they are remotely close to be murdered or killed by practically anything and everything BUT zombies?! I swear to Sara. Actually, God better have mercy on Ian Golightly when he reaches the afterlife, because lord knows Sara won't after all the bullshit he has put us through. But I guess we'll see where this goes next episode...

I literally yelled out "NO!" and covered my mouth in shock when Ian hit Steve. I thought he had killed him too. I think the couple that was walking nearby as I was sprinting thought something was very wrong lmao. This damn app.

Anyways hi hello, I'm alive, happy to be back to posting after the craziness that's been the last handful of weeks. I am finally off a lot of the medicine that was impacting my ability to run/my stamina, so I'm hoping to get back to running more again soon! I also got procreate and am doing digital art for the first time, which is very different from watercolor and ink on paper like I'm used too, but I'm having a blast and hoping to learn how to draw characters soon because I really want to draw my Five, as well as other characters! Hope yall are well :)

So I just remembered this; I was prompting at a rehearsal the other day for a play I’m helping out with in which three of the characters are northern, and it struck me midway through a scene that the main bloke in the play, the actor whilst playing him putting on a northern accent,

SOUNDS ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE IAN BLOODY GOLIGHTLY!!

Needless to say I had a hard time trying to not laugh whilst prompting because and I don’t mean to be rude here this play’s exactly like something Ian would write in the paper/broadcast propaganda for the minister (yeah the script is actually that bad but don’t tell the director/writer 😂)

had some time between commission stuff, tried some expressions with my five. they really, really don’t like ian golightly

short ramble/headcanon under the cut 

five’s nature as an experiment from mullins base + the unknown drugs from van ark mix in a weird way. they have a more ‘feral’ form that comes out under strong emotions/duress, and hoo boy the events of this season have them under duress. they’ve tried to hold it together and stay strong for the rebels (it took EVERYTHING for them to not flip out in episode 18) but hearing sam held hostage and hurt is the last straw. 

i know there’s probably not a good scientific reason for werewolf creatures to exist in the story but we have brain-ghost moonchild, also i have a fast and loose approach to canon here.

ZR Headcanon- What happened to Scraps, the Goodest boy in Abel Township. (TW: pet death):

Since I briefly mentioned this in a recent post and I love giving my Five more trauma than she already has in game, here’s happened to Scraps in detail (sorry this is going to hurt emotionally, I’M SORRY!):

Scraps is my Five’s little Jack Russell Terrier, she rescued him on her way back to Abel after season 2’s ‘We Used to Be Friends’, and I will be doing more headcanons on the puppy as in my head Five and Scraps’ relationship is adorable and I do want to share it with you guys so just because I’m doing this now does not mean I’m putting in Scraps as an afterthought.

Anyway Scraps was unfortunately shot and killed by the local batshit crazy reporter sorry, batshit crazy Roman dictator of Abel, Ian Golightly.

It happened when (spoiler for season 5) Five was knocked out by the butt of a gun in between ‘Sweet Dreams’ and ‘Stay Alive’.

He escaped out of the puppy enclosure to protect unconscious Runner Five, upon seeing what was going on and before someone could grab and stop him, he jumped and attacked Ian’s trousers leg (which for the record didn’t even leave a mark on his leg or hurt him) to stop him from taking Five further.

Side note: Five was unfortunately prevented from taking Scraps with her when going on the run (which she felt extremely guilty about even though it wasn’t her fault at all) so he was stuck at Abel and was actually seen as a valuable asset by the minister to keeping moral up.

Five was obviously unconscious at this point and although Steve immediately took Scraps to Labotse to try and get her to save him as it was their best shot, it was too late and although Labotse could give him a local anaesthetic to take some of the pain away, in the sixteen hours that Five was unconscious in the arena area with Veronica monitoring her, Scraps passed away from his wound, with Steve and Labotse comforting him and trying to make it as painless as possible.

Nobody told Five about what had happened to Scraps until she was safely back in the comfort of Noah Base and had Sam with her. This was agreed purely out of fear of what Five would do to herself should she find out without proper support there given she’d just been held captive for weeks.

Everyone knew before her what had happened. Steve had contacted Noah base about it, when he contacted the base to let them know it was go time to get Five out and Sam had been the one to receive the news.

Having been ‘dad’ to Scraps and helped raise Scraps with Five, he burst into tears when he found out. But managed to pull it together to be on the Comms for Five enough that it wasn’t notice to Five.

Everyone had to hide their upset over the news so not to alert Five that something was wrong until she was ready. Scraps was the most friendliest, kindest, gentlest dog in the world and everyone in Abel and then Noah base adored him.

She was told what had happened a day after she’d returned, she was sat in the infirmary still resting her foot from the zombie bite (which I head canon was quite a nasty wound) with Sam next to her, Maxine there having just changed the bandaging on her foot when Peter came in with Jody and with Maxine’s nod, Peter (who absolutely adored Scraps, he was basically a uncle for the dog and Simon actually dog sat a lot for Five) broke the news.

Devastated didn’t cut it with Five. To Five this was the equivalent of losing a child, and yeah she’d basically just lost her baby.

Five let out a blood curdling scream when she was told and then was promptly sick from the shock. Literally. She threw up all over the bedsheet and her hoodie.

Sam immediately pulled her into his chest to stop her from then lashing out and potentially hurting herself, not caring if she got vomit on his clothing or punched him instead.

Eventually she was enticed into getting herself cleaned up from the vomit and put her pyjamas on.

She cried relentlessly for hours, along with Sam as he just sat there holding her, she sobbed about how it was her fault and how she should have saved him even though she physically couldn’t.

It was a long sleepless night for both of them.

I don’t think Scraps’ death is going to be one of the deaths Five really recovers from.

Scraps’ death is one of the reasons why Evan asked Five and Sam to look after Bonnie for him (although Peter is mostly Bonnie’s carer now).

Needless to say Ian murdering Scraps for no reason other than him being a good boy and trying to defend his favourite person and Five’s extreme guilt at not being able to protect her innocent, harmless, gentlest baby pup, was one of the reasons why (along with hearing and seeing what torture he had been doing to Sam, as in that was the thing that made her snap) she heard ‘Kill Bill’ sirens on her head and went all ‘John Wick’ on him and tried to choke him in a choke hold during her rescue of Sam.

Post Sigrid control of Abel, Abel Township erected a statue of Scraps in the puppy enclosure to honour the bravery and to show just how much he meant to them, and Five put up a framed photo of her holding Scraps from she first rescued him up in her bunk room. She also always carries his blood stained collar and his favourite toy in her rucksack with her as a reminder of him and to comfort her on tough missions.
