Recollections of the city of Messina in the island of Sicily.  May God restore it (to the Muslims)
The Month of Ramadan the Venerated (580) [6th of December, 1184-4th of January, 1185]  May God in His grace and favour let us share His blessings and during it accept our prayers. There is no Lord but He.
[...]The finest town in Sicily and the seat of its sovereign, is known to the Muslims as al-Madinah, and to the Christians as Palermo. It has Muslim citizens who possess mosques, and their own markets, in the many suburbs. The rest of the Muslims live in the farms (of the island) and in all its villages and towns, such as Syracuse and others. AI-Madinah al-Kabirah [‘the great City’ - Palermo], the residence of their King, William, is however the biggest and most populous, and Messina is next. In al-Madinah, God willing, we shall make our stay; and thence we hope to go to whichever of the western countries that Great and Glorious God shall at His will determine.
Their King, William, is admirable for his just conduct, and the use he makes of the industry of the Muslims, and for choosing eunuch pages who all, or nearly all, concealing their faith, yet hold firm to the Muslim divine law. He has much confidence in Muslims, relying on them for his affairs, and the most important matters, even the supervisor of his kitchen being a Muslim; and he keeps a band of black Muslim slaves commanded by a leader chosen from amongst them. His ministers and chamberlains he appoints from his pages, of whom he has a great number and who are his public officials and are described as his courtiers. In them shines the splendour of his realm for the magnificent clothing and fiery horses they display; and there is none of them but has his retinue, his servants, and his followers.
This King possesses splendid palaces and elegant gardens, particularly in the capital of his kingdom, al-Madinah. In Messina he has a palace, white like a dove, which overlooks the shore. He has about him a great number of youths and handmaidens, and no Christian King is more given up to the delights of the realm, or more comfort and luxury-loving.
William is engrossed in the pleasures of his land, the arrangement of its laws, the laying down of procedure, the allocation of the functions of his chief officials, the enlargement of the splendour of the realm, and the display of his pomp, in a manner that resembles the Muslim Kings. His kingdom is very large. He pays much attention to his (Muslim) physicians and astrologers, and also takes great care of them. He will even, when told that a physician or astrologer is passing through his land, order his detainment, and then provide him with means of living so that he will forget his native land. May God in His favour preserve the Muslims from this seduction. The King's age is about thirty years. May God protect the Muslims from his hostility and the extension of his power.
One of the remarkable things told of him is that he reads and writes Arabic. We also learnt from one of his personal servants that his ‘alamah’ is: ‘Praise be to God. It is proper to praise Him.’ His father's ‘alamah was: ‘Praise be to God in thanks for His beneficence.’ The handmaidens and concubines in his palace are all Muslims. One of the strangest things told us by this servant, Yahya ibn Fityan, the Embroiderer, who embroidered in gold the King's clothes, was that the Frankish Christian women who came to his palace became Muslims, converted by these handmaidens. All this they kept secret from their King. Of the good works of these handmaidens there are astonishing stories.
It was told to us that when a terrifying earthquakem shook the island this polytheist [a Muslim would deem William to be so, since he accepted the dogma of the Trinity] in alarm ranged round his palace, and heard nothing but cries to God and His Prophet from his women and pages. At sight of him, they were overcome with confusion, but he said to them: ‘Let each invoke the God he worships, and those that have faith shall be comforted.’
The pages, who are the leaders of his state and the managers of his affairs, are Muslims, there being none who do not, voluntarily and for a heavenly reward, fast in the holy month [of Ramadan] , and give alms that they might be nearer to God.
They redeem prisoners and bring up their young ones, arranging for their marriage and giving them assistance, and doing all the good they can. All this is done by Great and Almighty God for the Muslims of this island and is one of the mysteries of His care for them.[...]

Hasan al-Basri رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ was asked:
What is with the ones who pray tahajjud at night, that they seem to have the most beautiful faces of the people?
He replied:
This is because they secluded themselves with Ar-Rahman, so He clothed them in His noor (light).
[مصنف ابن أبي شيبة كتاب الدعاء 29539]
Sa'id ibn Jubayr reported: Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه used to say,
O Allāh, I ask You by the light of Your Face, which shines over the heavens and the earth, that you place me within Your fortress, Your protection, Your guardianship, and under Your shadow.

🌸Friday Series🌸
by Asma bint Shameem
🌿Seize the Last Hour today🌿
Today is a beautiful chance to make duaa for our brothers and sisters in Palestine.
That’s because there’s a SPECIAL TIME on Fridays when our Duaas are GUARANTEED to be accepted.
🍃 The Prophet sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam said:
“The day of Friday has twelve hours, in which there is no Muslim slave who asks Allaah for anything but He will grant it to him, so seek it in the last hour after ‘Asr.”
(Abu Dawood, and an-Nasaa’i- saheeh by al-Albaani)
This is known as Sa’at al-Istijaabah (a time when Duaa is answered)
So the Duaa that’s made before Maghrib on Fridays is answered.
That’s why some of our pious predecessors would close their businesses, leave the world behind and confine themselves to the masjid after Asr, just to make Duaa.
🍃When Mufaddal bin Fudhaalah would pray Asr on Fridays, he would seclude himself alone to a corner of the masjid and then continue making duaa until the sun would set.
🍃 Similarly, Sa’eed bin Jubayr would pray Asr, then he would not speak to anyone until the sun would set - meaning that he would busy himself with duaa.
🍃 Ṣalt bin Bastaam once became blind, so his brothers sat after Asr on Friday making duaa for him, and suddenly before the sun set, he sneezed and his sight returned!
So be SURE to make good use of this time.
Free yourself up of all other distractions and make special efforts to set aside this time only for duaa.
Beg Allaah for His Mercy on the people of Palestine and the rest of the Ummah.
Be sincere and make taubah of all your sins.
Cry and beseech His Help and victory in that SPECIAL ‘HOUR’ when Duaa is accepted on Fridays, this evening.
‎🍃 Ibn al-Qayyim said:
‎“The Hour of Response in it (i.e. Friday) is like the Night of Decree in Ramadhaan.” ⁣
‎⁣(Zaad al-Maa’d 1/398)
Surely Allaah’s Help is near.

Take Your Time
Saʿid b. Jubayr said: Allah was able to create the heavens and the earth at a glance and moment, قال سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ: كان اللَّهُ - عزَّ وجلَّ - قادِراً على خَلْق السَّمواتِ والأرْضَ في لَمْحَةٍ ولحظة، however He created them in six days in order to teach His creation to establish and deliberate things. فَخَلَقَهُنَّّ في سِتَّةِ أيَّام تعليماً لخلقه التَّثَبُّتَ، والتَّأنِّي في الأمُور، The ḥadīth says: “deliberateness is from Allah and haste from Shayṭān.”

Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Surah Al-Hijr Ayah 87-88
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
15:87 And indeed, We have bestowed upon you seven of the Mathani, and the Grand Qur'an.
15:88 Look not with your eyes ambitiously at what We have given to certain classes of them, nor grieve over them. And lower your wings to the believers.
A Reminder of the Blessing of the Qur'an and the Command to focus on its Message
Allah says:
And indeed, We have bestowed upon you seven of the Mathani, and the Grand Qur'an. Look not with your eyes ambitiously at what We have given to certain classes of them, nor grieve over them. And lower your wings to the believers.
Allah is saying to His Prophet:
Since We have given you the Grand Qur'an, then do not look at this world and its attractions, or the transient delights that we have given to its people in order to test them. Do not envy what they have in this world, and do not upset yourself with regret for their rejection of you and their opposition to your religion.
And lower your wings to the believers who follow you. (26:215) meaning - be gentle with them, like the Ayah,
Verily, there has come unto you a Messenger from among yourselves. It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty. He is anxious for you, for the believers - he is full of pity, kind and merciful. (9:128)
There were some differences among the scholars over the meaning of "seven of the Mathani''.
Ibn Mas`ud, Ibn Umar, Ibn Abbas, Mujahid, Sa`id bin Jubayr, Ad-Dahhak and others said that;
they are the seven long (Surahs), meaning
• Al-Baqarah,
• Al-Imran,
• An-Nisa',
• Al-Ma'idah,
• Al-An`am,
• Al-A`raf,
• Yunus.
There are texts to this effect reported from Ibn Abbas and Sa`id bin Jubayr.
Sa`id said:
"In them, Allah explains the obligations, the
Hudud (legal limits), stories and rulings.'' Ibn Abbas said,
"He explains the parables, stories and lessons.'' The second opinion is that;
they (the seven of the Mathani) are Al-Fatihah, which is composed of seven Ayat.
This was reported from Ali, Umar, Ibn Mas`ud and Ibn Abbas.
Ibn Abbas said:
"The Bismillah, is completing seven Ayah, which Allah has given exclusively to you (Muslims).''
This is also the opinion of Ibrahim An-Nakha`i, Abdullah bin Umayr, Ibn Abi Mulaykah, Shahr bin Hawshab, Al-Hasan Al-Basri and Mujahid.
Al-Bukhari, may Allah have mercy on him, recorded two Hadiths on this topic. The first was recorded from Abu Sa`id bin Al-Mu`alla, who said:
"The Prophet passed by me while I was praying. He called out for me but I did not come until I finished my prayer. Then I came to him, and He asked,
What stopped you from coming to me? I said, `I was praying'.
He said, did not Allah say;
O you who believe! Answer Allah (by obeying Him) and (His) Messenger when he calls you... (8:24)
Shall I not teach you the most magnificent Surah before I leave the Masjid!
Then the Prophet went to leave the Masjid, and I reminded him, so he said,
All praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of all that exists. (1:2)
This is the seven of the Mathani and the Qur'an which I have been given.''
The second Hadith was reported from Abu Hurayrah who said that the Messenger of Allah said:
Umm Al-Qur'an (the Mother or the Essence of the Qur'an), is the seven Mathani, and the Grand Qur'an.
This means that Al-Fatihah is the seven Mathani and the Grand Qur'an, but this does not contradict the statement that the seven Mathani are the seven long Surahs, because they also share these attributes, as does the whole Qur'an.
As Allah says,
Allah has sent down the best statement, a Book (this Qur'an), its parts resembling each other in goodness and truth, oft-recited. (39:23)
So it is oft-recited in one way, and its parts resemble one another in another way, and this is also the Grand Qur'an.
Look not with your eyes ambitiously at what We have given to certain classes of them.
meaning, be content with the Grand Qur'an that Allah has given to you, and do not long for the luxuries and transient delights that they have.
Al-Awfi reported that Ibn Abbas said:
(Look not with your eyes ambitiously),
"He (in this Ayah) forbade a man to wish for what his companion has.''
at what We have given to certain classes of them, Mujahid said:
"This refers to the rich.''

Near the end of surah Luqman [31], Allāh commands:
[فَلَا تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكُم بِاللَّهِ الْغَرُورُ]
"So do not let yourselves be deceived by this worldly life and do not let yourselves be deceived about Allāh by the deceiver." [33]
In his tafsir of this ayah, Imam at-Tabari (rahimahullah) mentioned the following report:
Some interpreted "the deceiver" in the way that is relayed from Sa'eed ibn Jubayr (rahimahullah) who explained:
"do not let yourselves be deceived about Allah by the deceiver"
by saying (it means): “that you commit a sin while hoping for forgiveness.”

Sa’id ibn al-Jubayr ‎رضي الله عنه said,
“A person will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and presented with his record.
He will not see his prayers, nor his fasting, nor his good deeds.
He will say: O Lord, this is the record of someone else, for I had good deeds not in this record.
It will be said to him: Verily, your Lord does not overlook or forget. Your deeds have vanished because you were backbiting people.”
