havent drawn these two in a hot minute so i spent ~4hours remedying that. they turned out so cuuute 💕

Tour de Tav’s

(Pt. 1)

Icarian of the Open Hand Temple

This is my current Tav called Icarian!

Race: Human

Class: Paladin (oath of Devotion, follower of Ilmater)

Romancing: Lae’zel

Icarian was taken in at a young age by the Open Hand Temple in Rivington and raised by its clergy, though he sees Father Lorgan and Sister Yannis as parental figures. He looks up to Father Lorgan especially since Ilmater isn’t knie to comune with his servants often, if at all, so Father Lorgan is the closest person to his god, in his eyes. He is a Paladin and travels often since his life is dedicated to others, seeking out the persecuted and oppressed under Ilmater’s care. He has never bothered to think about what he wants, he sees himself only as a vessel for Ilmater’s work.

He is romancing Lae’zel. He was taken aback by her bluntness and confidence in her beliefs and what she wants. She was the only person he has met in a long time that did not ask him to do something for her (not that he dislikes doing things for people, it’s his whole thing). He struggles to understand how to acknowledge his feelings for Lae’zel but also stay truthful to his oath to only be in service of others.

Fun Facts!

- His earliest years were spent on the streets of Baldur’s Gate. He was a very prolific pick-pocket in his youth.

- He’s only 24! He and Lae’zel and the two youngest in the tadpole pond.

- Karlach is his best friend. He took to her early on given how much he wanted to help her. He’s fairly quiet and reserved, so Karlach and he balance each other out.

The Run So Far

I’m still in act 1 for him, since I’m trying to take this one really slow and see everything, but so far he’s rescued Councilor Florrick, saved the grove (and Arabella and Mattias, as well as defeated the shadow Druids), de rested the goblin camp and saved Halsin, explored the temple of Jergal, and gotten his eye poked out by Volo (he doesn’t know how to say no to people). Next up is the Hag and then the Crèche (he really has a hard time saying no to Lae’zel, unless it’s about violence).

Headcanons!

- Though I know it can’t happen in-game, in my mind Orin kidnaps Lae’zel from camp and kills Yenna in front of him. Icarian, because of his oath to Ilmater, feels like he failed him and doesn’t know why his oath hasn’t been shattered by failing to stop Orin (he didn’t realize it wasn’t Lae’zel until she wanted to kill Yenna, but he was too late. He trusts Lae’zel explicitly by this point, and he was blinded by it). He immediately goes to retrieve Lae’zel and in the fight with Orin, gets wounded. He almost dies just as Lae’zel wakes up (I love angst) but Shart and Halsin heal him just in time.

- Eager to see what is essentially Lae’zel’s god freed because of his own love for his deity (and distrust of the emperor), Icarian denies the Emperor and frees Orpheus early, optimistic that he will continue to protect them for it. When Orpheus says one of them must become Ilithid, Icarian accepts. Lae’zel, distraught over losing him, refuses to let him become a mindflayer and offers herself. Orpheus, who does not want to see a child of his mother Gith become Ilithid, and seeing how dedicated Lae’zel is to save those she cares for, realizes she must be the one to lead the Githyanki to freedom. He knows the Githyanki must learn to lead themselves, should they risk falling under another false ruler. He consumes the tadpole himself but makes Lae’zel promise she will show the same selfless devotion to their peoples liberation.

- After the victory, Lae’zel convinced Voss to have the Githyanki stay till nightfall (she says it’s to gather material from all the ghaik ships as it could be useful, but really it’s to say goodbye to Icarian). She says she wishes he could come with her, and he does too. He is split between his Oath to help the people of the destroyed city and his love for Lae’zel. He seeks out Sister Yannis at the temple, and she reminds him that it’s his job as a Paladin to liberate the oppressed and persecuted and that he’s done that for the people of the city by defeating the Nether Brain. She also points out that the Githyanki are currently oppressed, and it would be well within his Oath to devote himself to their liberation instead. Once he realizes this, he offers to go with Lae’zel to the astral plane to support her. (I have a bunch more thoughts about what happens after this (including what happens to the githyanki egg!), but I’ve got a whole fanfic about it, so I’ll just post that if anyone’s interested)

Other Photos!

Originally he had a fuller beard, but I thought it made him look too old, so I shortened it. I have a few mods on him: his hair is the longer version of the Wizardly Updo (for Tav) mod. His skin color is modded as well (I believe it’s “extra skin colors” by PaisleyPark1 on Nexus), and his tunic/armor might be died with one of the Ocean variants from the “Extra dyes for the fashionable folk of Faerun” mod by AstralSprout on Nexus. It’s either the default “Ocean” dye or “Ocean Tides” from the mod.

This is Icarian’s guardian. I didn’t have anything particular in mind for him so I just made someone I think he would feel very included to help. I picked the youngest looking face from the “Faces of Faerun” mod by Aloija and some pigtails from “Tav’s hair salon” by Toarie. The skin color is also modded (also from “extra skin colors”), all on Nexus. The horns might also be modded, but I can’t remember which one.

Some rough sketches of Icarian (+Lae’zel). I’ve been drawing him A LOT and have plenty more than just these drawings. I’m working of rendering a whole scene right now but will probably make a character sheet when I’m done.

Big shoutout to @verk0my for being a huge inspo for a lot of my sketches of him. I love their hobbit art and have been doing a study of their style and it’s helped a LOT, so honestly credit to them for these drawings 😅.

WIP Icarian's Heraldy/gambeson/tunic. I wanted to include the Ilmatari symbol on his paladin armor since it's such a nice set of armor and it looks so good on him. I might render this flat and try to replace the file in the game, but I'm not a modder and I'm terrified of breaking it. Ignore how flat this all looks, its still a WIP.

Anyway that's one of my many, many Tav's. Let me know if y'all are interested to see the rest! Icarian is by far my most fleshed-out, but I still love all of my children equally (even the murderous ones).

I wanted to draw @icarian-arts oc for a while now so I decided to work on it while and I can’t help but have a little inside joke with the Fish Solider sharing a slightly similar look with Shadowman. I honestly have no idea what the actually color scheme is for the lance so I just went with mixing the Fish Solider’s color scheme with the base of the staff. I hope Icarian likes it.

I am happy I can play Baldur’s Gate 3 again now that I got a new computer that is actually competent with video games. One of these days when I have the chance I think I’ll rework Mario’s outfit. At the very least I am satisfied with his overall shape and facial structure. LOL
