hey, how do we feel about ken and brady? because:

thinking about brady getting up early to go spend time with his little mechanic before everyone else is awake, his version of courting ken being sitting on the tailgate of a truck to watch him do his routine checks, fond smile playing at his lips, a softness so evident that it'd be useless to deny it if anyone pointed it out, but he'd still try.

ken following him around base like a lovesick puppy after the morning's mission, hanging off his every word, looking at him like he's the coolest ever, and to ken he is. eagerly leaning forward in his seat, chin in hand when brady relents and tells him about his flight in the mess hall later, shooting question after question at him until brady quiets him with the suggestion that they go on a walk, "so we don't drive the others mad with your yapping."

ken grows more shy when it's just the two of them, hands in his pockets as they walk off base to stroll down a quiet country trail, fighting off a dopey grin every time brady purposefully bumps against him. the rush of developing feelings, every interaction feeling so fresh and exciting, pure young summer love.

a drawled out "enough about the mission– what'd my pretty handyman get up to while i was gone?" as brady slings an arm around his waist when they're far enough off the road to not worry. light pink blooming on ken's cheeks at his words, smiling bashfully as he tells him about the little things that happened throughout the morning.

the two of them end up in some open field as they often do, sweaty in the sun, cargo pants on but shirts discarded in the grass. brady's laid out on his back with sweet angel ken on top of him, hands cupping ken's face as his boy leans down to kiss him all smiley and giggly and flushed, curls messy from the summer heat and roaming hands.

all of their days off spent in that field, a summer full of lazy make–outs and secret glances and careful brushes of hands, growingly increasingly fonder of each other's company and navigating the feelings that come with that. evenings spent up on the wing of whatever plane ken's spent the day working on, laying his head in brady's lap as the sun goes down, resting his eyes while brady reads his book out loud to him, or while they both talk about their days.

innocent first–love surviving the summer, stretching into fall and then winter, romps in fields turning into cold evenings under blankets when they can sneak into unoccupied barracks. the light small talk and nervous kisses and hand holding of the sunny season morph into late night conversations over the howling wind outside about what will happen after the war, fantasizing about a cozy apartment and a bed for two and quiet mornings and a future together.

Kinda took the liberty to give max a daughter in this. Idk why lol. But here’s a short little meet cute!

“Papa look!” Lily shouted as she sprinted ahead to the big car on display. A bold ‘3’ on the front in black and a smiling driver standing in front of it meeting fans wearing his corresponding tight black race suit.

Max followed her quickly “Lily don’t run I told you” he said exasperated but his six year old was for too fast for him. Lily ran past the rope barrier and right up to the driver.

“Hi! My papa and I are your biggest fans!” She squealed happily her long braided hair swinging with excitement under her yellow hat that read NASCAR ok the front.

Daniel couldn’t help but smile and laugh softly at the little girl standing about knee high “oh? And where is your papa now?” He asked her. Lily to point towards Max who was talking to the security trying to convince them that he wasn’t a deranged fan. Just a dad trying get his daughter back . Daniel let out a small laugh before nodding to security “let him through it’s okay.”

Max walked over sheepishly. He couldn’t believe his daughter just bust through security a right up to this stranger. Sure max had watched hundreds of races with her cheering him on. But still. Not something he expected his Lily to do “hi I’m so sorry I told her not to run-” max began as he scooped up his daughter into his arms. Sade from running away again.

Daniel shook his head “nonsense that’s what this is for. To meet fans” he said with a charming smile directed at Max “your little girl here says you and her are my biggest ones” he grinned.

Max couldn’t help the blush that formed on his cheeks making him hot in the already hot Texas sun. Yes Max had definitely been following Daniel’s career since he made the switch to NASCAR but he didn’t know if that would make him Daniel’s biggest fan.

“What would you say about watching the race from the pit?” Daniel asked Lily. Her eyes widen and she nods brightly excitement filling her eyes. The hat she wore on her head flopped around almost falling off.

“Oh that’s very generous-“ Max started. He couldn’t take advantage of this racer who was just being nice to his overactive daughter.

“Nonsense I would love to have you guys there” he says and smiles happily “especially if I get to grab a bite with you after” Daniel winked at Max.

Max’s cheeks grew more red. Who was he to say no?

“O-okay sounds good” he said.

“Great. Blake will take you over and I’ll see you in the pits before the race” Daniel winked before turning his attention to the other media officer.

Max followed Blake out of the way towards pit lane. Had his daughter landed him a date with Daniel Ricciardo?

we don’t really know that much i don’t think but a majority of the background info i’ve found is either vaguely mentioned in the film or the paramount draft script you can find online ! bradley being a poli sci major at UVA and graduating in ‘09 is canon (and also very dear to me bc that was my major too plus i also graduated hs at 17 bc we are both #junebabies :]), jake originally got his call sign because bradley gave it to him and he hated it at first, bradley played baseball as a kid, mickey is a trekkie and also catholic or at least raised catholic (he crosses himself before they launch on the mission in the draft script), harvard and yale were the only duo that came from the same squadron together before the movie, and bradley and jake and natasha were in top gun together at the same time. there’s probably more backstory you could piece together for everyone by looking at their service medals/ribbons they wear but i fear i am not knowledgeable enough about that sort of stuff without a lot more research. they all mostly have the same ones but natasha has a NATO medal, jake has a navy unit commendation ribbon, and reuben has a joint service achievement medal.

also silly canon details that aren’t background info but i still love: jake wears what i’m pretty sure is a class ring on his right ring finger, he’s also the only trainee i recall seeing actually wear his tags, he likes van halen and foghat and seems to be a classic rock fanatic, natasha wears a plain gold band on her left index finger, mickey, reuben, natasha, and bob all use those multicolor clicky pens, bradley is i think the only one of the main squad who doesn’t have the fingertips cut off his flight gloves, halo’s tank top has her squadron logo on it during the football scene, and those stupid jorts bradley wears were definely just jeans he cut the legs off himself 😭.

Also, the reason Seven/B'Elanna works so well is their weirdgirl 2 weirdgirl communication Also 2) Seven is going THROUGH it with Janeway...Janeway is Seven's Popular Girl Friend who's sort of being condescending to you but also is genuinely trying to be nice and also there's a lesbian undertone to all your interactions as she tries to get you to submit to a makeover and that relationship will be with you forever and you'll never be able to fully say it was good or bad - yet it haunts you. Seven's relationship with B'Elanna is thinking "I hate her boyfriend so much I could treat her better" so hard that her head explodes. You know Tom did something at/before prom and Seven swooped in. You know this to be true. B'Elanna thinks Seven is so pretty and why would she even hang out with a loser like me? Why be a weirdo when you could just be popular Miss Perfect??? And they have this sort of antagonism but understanding of one another even as they keep pissing each other off and being annoying.
