I know you’re not working on any askblog things but will the sparklecare askblog ever return?

i've thought about this a lot, semi-recently. sorry for long post, i had a lot to say

see, the issue with asksparklecare is the fact it's supposed to "go along with canon events" and a lot of the time, the arcs will just abruptly end or change with no real connection between them. haunted was sort of my first attempt at putting a "story" on there, then again with the kissmas comic from 2021.

when i started cometcare for example, i wanted to take the generic "ask blog" format and turn it into a coherent, cohesive connecting story that just had interactive elements to make it engaging with readers as opposed to just making people ask the characters questions aimlessly. the main ask blog never really had that entirely, it was just sort of the classic 2010s-style ask blog, this is apparent in basically every arc on there.

it's stumped me quite a bit because now that i have this very different style of ask blog storytelling, the original ask blog feels weird to go back to and i don't feel the same passion or connection with it that i once did. it's a little bit frustrating. i tried to do an arc about the side patients but as you guys saw, i never even did it because i felt so out of touch with that old format of ask blog posts and i couldn't bring myself to work on it at all.

cometcare and darkermatters both have Stories to them, and each arc has a plot that is moved on by readers- even if i already have it written out, there are little things people can influence through the asks and it's a good way for introducing new characters or expanding on characters who we've already met. several times cometcare will return to specific characters to relay information or new details or exposition or something that their initial introduction didn't have.

it's a much more fun process for me to write actual stories in my AU blogs, instead of just....making the characters talk. and another thing- going alongside the main comic has problems, because sometimes there's information i can only reveal in the comic itself, and it's hard to keep up with it in general.

i enjoyed doing the kissmas comic because i got to do a "story" even if it wasn't interactive. i had fun repeating the concept on cometcare last december with help of the crew.

i'm sort of at a loss of what to do with the main ask blog at this point. as much as i miss doing stuff like that for main comic, i just don't find it FUN to do it that way anymore, i've become too attached to the storytelling aspects of my other ask blogs and it just doesn't feel the same exciting experience of watching people react to events and such.

if anyone has suggestions about what i should do with the main ask blog to solve this problem i'm open to hearing them, it would be nice to have some ideas because i'm really not sure what i want to do with it.

there was a time i had the idea of doing a backstory ask blog as an alternate main canon interactive story that followed similar mechanics as cometcare and darkermatters, but idk if everyone would be interested in that. that would probably be a separate thing if i ever did it.

thoughts, opinions, suggestions and ideas are all welcome in the replies or my inbox, i would love to have your guys' input since im making content you all would be engaging with after all

Quickly I am new here explain your blog and your au!!!

Honestly, there's not too much to explain. I use this sideblog mainly to reblog things relating to whatever fandom I'm currently in, and sometimes to share my fanfics or just ideas I wanna talk about.

I have a couple different AUs actually. The one I've posted about most recently is the Evbear AU, premise of which is that Michael discovers Evan's ghost haunting Fredbear shortly after the Bite of '83. He sneaks Evbear out of the diner and into their house, and the two of them try to hide this huge secret from their Father.

Another of my AUs is the Paradoxical Reaper AU. This is a time travel AU, only instead of just waking up as his younger self, adult Michael goes physically back in time and kills his younger self in order to prevent all the tragedies would follow. Since that creates a paradox, the day resets and the Mikes retain only a vague sense of deja vu.

Then I've got my own killer crying child AU, which I call Guilty Accomplice. In this one, Evan is groomed by William into being a child killer after the bite and Michael, out of guilt for nearly killing Evan and blaming himself for Evan's new homicidal tendencies, tries to protect Evan from the authorities best he can while also trying to convince Evan to stop killing.

And then of course there are a few AUs I didn't actually create but that I added a little onto. I recommend checking out @lonelyfreddles , @honey-bunnysaurus , @crumbleclub , @serenefig , @cloudwhisper23 and @catwithacupofcoffee bc they've all come up with some really amazing ideas.

Last Line Tag Game

Thanks for tagging me @teejaystumbles ! A really nice surprise!! :D I am indeed contemplating writing two Dead Boy Detectives fic right now, but they're both in the very early 'being-outlined-in-my-head' stage, haha. They both revolve around post-s1 Edwin pining for Charles, one where Edwin takes matters into his own hands and one where he decides to have a chat with the Cat King about it. Not sure if they'll ever be written but they're intriguing!

But for the sake of the tag game, here's a lengthy bit from a Dreamling wip I've slowly been chipping away at for a few months!

A scene from Every Little Thing (Working Title)— In which Morpheus is a figure drawing professor who has just been fired from a film production based on his comics, and Hob does part-time figure modeling and is determined befriend the aforementioned professor.

Morpheus picks his class schedules wisely— he runs two first year general figure drawing classes, at 8 a.m. and at noon on Mondays and Thursdays. He helps the uni’s live figure workshop club on Wednesdays and Fridays at 6 p.m., and meets his sister for lunch on Wednesdays. All other free time was dedicated for his industry work. That wouldn’t be a concern anymore, would it. By the time Morpheus unlocks the door to the studio, sets his bag down by his desk, and starts fiddling with the ceiling studio lights pointed at the model stand, all of Morpheus’ thoughts have reduced to pure spite. Fine, maybe the big studios don’t want him. They don’t deserve him, then, their loss. His portfolio and repertoire are infamous in the industry, they’ll be crawling back to him in no time. Too bad, maybe he would have started his own production studio and he’ll end up with the next ground-breaking animated film. Maybe— Morpheus’ thoughts are interrupted by a knock at the door. He shakes himself out of it, calling, “Come in.” A glance at his watch tells him it’s only 7:48, perhaps it’s an overeager student here early. It’s only the second week of the semester, they grab every opportunity to prove themselves with a spirited step that Morpheus might be slightly envious of. “Hello, Morpheus Endeles?” Hearing his full name startles Morpheus, and he turns from the lighting settings to the door. “Yes?” The man who steps into view can only be described as radiant. He can’t be much older than Morpheus, not much taller either but wider in the shoulders. His hair is cropped just above his shoulders and he sports a neatly kept beard. Morpheus registers this all first simply because of his profession but— he gets caught on the man’s brilliant smile and deep brown eyes. There’s something there that knocks all thoughts clear out of Morpheus’ head. The stranger smiles warmly, smiles like he already cares. “I’m here to model for the morning and noon figure classes?” The man says. Morpheus clears his throat and steps forward, “Yes, this is the right studio.” He extends a hand, “Robert Gadling, I presume?” The man takes his hand— god, he’s so warm— and shakes it steadily, “Please, call me Hob! All my friends do.”

I'm a sucker for the 'Morpheus catalogues Hob's appearance during their first meeting' trope in most Dreamling human AU fics, I couldn't not do it too :]

Besides this, I've also got a Dreamling Velvet Goldmine-ish AU fic that I want to get done this summer. I'm a very slow and ruminative writer so let's see if I can commit to any of these fics now that I've posted about them lol!

I know I'm not the best when it comes to getting canon characterization right, but when I deviate from canon, I (usually) have a justified reason for doing so. Whether that be projection or differences for AU purposes, it's usually understandable.

And then there's the pain that comes from blatant mischaracterization that has nothing to do with an AU, and it's either because the person genuinely sees the character that way or does it for weird shipping purposes. Like, really weird shipping purposes. I'm talking "Character A is such a frail bottom UwU" and "Character B is such a strong top, protecting their precious partner". THAT kind of weird change for shipping. Especially when it comes to LGBTQ+ couples.

#those sentences caused me physical pain to write I want you all to know that #this can be used for all fandoms #but the prompt for this came from Cookie run #specifically a (partial) high school au #like no dark choco wouldn't burn down the school because someone was mean to licorice #the creator specified that there were still people inside the school too #and no he wouldn't make fun of caramel arrow for being an orphan??? #are we even talking about the same character #talking about some “dark choco didn't get possessed by the sword AU” #sucka you made him worse than the strawberry jam sword ever could in canon #how do you make a fandom favorite so damn unlikable

kinda neat how media can be used as a jumping off point to learn about new things. there are the obvious things like documentaries, but then there are all sorts of other things. when 'hamilton' first got big, you ended up with people learning about aaron burr and the new york water system and various trivia from usa history around that era which wasn't even featured in the musical itself.

when 'mr bates vs the post office' came out recently over here (UK), a whole lot of people were able to appreciate the impact the whole horizon/post office affair had on its victims. sure, the story has been in the news for a few years now, but it's the first time it's been a story actively discussed in daily life. and people learning more about it has actively pushed the government to consider speeding up compensation or mass exonerations.

and even aside from these obvious instances, there are a lot that don't tell you up front and you realise as you're watching. when shows and films and books reference real life events through the veneer of fiction. suzume, referencing the tohoku earthquake of 2011 (something I imagine pretty much every japanese citizen is aware of - suzume's own age is very deliberate in how she lost her mother to the quake. she was very young at the time it happened, but it still had a huge impact on her and many others). link click, referencing the 2008 sichuan earthquake (and deliberately having the arc revolve around school-age children in a run-down old building when irl one of the reasons the casualties were so high was because of poor construction of school buildings). various kdramas referencing generational SK disasters: imf financial crisis (explored in 'reborn rich', but I imagine many other shows), sampoong department store collapse (referenced in 'move to heaven', but again, once I knew the history, it made a lot of sense why so many corrupt villains in kdramas were specifically involved in construction).

it's a mix of how, if you know the events being referenced, they'll impact you more. but if you don't know the events, then it gives you a reason to learn. I personally had very very vague memories of the 2008 earthquake, just in terms of some clips on the news at the time. I had no idea about the various factors that made the disaster so much worse until I realised what was being referenced when watching the show and decided to read up on it.

I have somewhat conflicted feelings on how fictional (or dramatised in the case of mr bates) media approaches specifically *disasters*, as opposed to other historical events, but I think the shows I've mentioned here at least take a victim-first approach.

#I would also mention tangentially that spy x family uses a mishmash of real history but it doesn't fully map one to one #so I didn't really want to put it in the main post when the others are talking about specifics. like yeah sxf sorta does cold war #and a lot of the countries are somewhat analogues (westalis/ostania being the obvious ones and a load of place names matches german places) #but I think given the whole commentary is more focused on war and propaganda in general rather than doing a deep dive on the actual cold wa #idk what this is. just been musing lately and seems like everyone's been watching mr bates vs. and then I ended up on a wiki spree #finding out about dutch child benefits scandal and robodebt in aus. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this done, and that’s a shame. Depending on what direction you choose to take it in, this has untapped humour potential AND untapped angst potential!

Maybe it's the result of my main fandom for the majority of my life being one where canon just genuinely doesn't exist, where there are so many different canons and literally any sort of interpretation of a single character is correct and can range from a moronic maniac with a chainsaw to a depressed old asshole boss, but

Like, I'm sorry, but if you're butthurt about a mischaracterisation of a fictional character in an Alternative Universe then I don't think you understand what an AU is

#thylacines can talk #Maybe that's the reason I do not have the same violent reaction to mischaracterisation 99% of fandom spaces seems to have #I genuinely think that getting butthurt over somebody not writing a fictional character exactly how they appear in canon is the stupidest #most juvenile pet peeve you could ever have. Literally WHY do you care so much? It's words on a screen. Calm down. #I think it's only a problem when you believe that it's canon or try to shove your own interpretation of a character or AUs onto everybody #else. Otherwise...literally who cares? Somebody else treating characters like dolls is not hurting me. I'm not about to get legitimately #annoyed over fictional characters in a children's cat book. Unless it's like. Bigoted. But then I criticise the person's beliefs not a #goddammed characterisation of a fictional character. #In the fandom I was in most of my life a trigger-happy clown with a chainsaw canon and an old deppressed asshole boss were seen as the same #character and only had like. One design detail in common. And literally nobody batted an eye. You could write a dynamic between two #characters being incredibly hateful and toxic and somebody else could write them as old friends or an old married couple and both of these #interpretations would be equally canon. A single guy could have two wildly different personalities and backstories and he'd still be #treated like the same character as long as the two looked vaguely similar physically wise. Sure there were interpretations of characters #that were more popular than others but literally the only people who would treat one specific interpretation as canon and shove that #interpretation onto everybody else would be people who came from different kinds of fandoms and let me tell you. They were annoying as fuck #So coming from that kind of fandom into more generic mainstream fandoms feels like such a culture shock. Genuinely cannot comprehend why #people care so much. #'oh this character is so far from canon they might as well make an oc' okay...cool...and? #Maybe they don't want to make an oc?? I mean come on. It's fictional characters. You're an adult. It's not a fucking English class #People don't come to fandoms to study book literacy they come here to have fun. Literally WHO CARES if somebody's interpretation of a #character has only name and looks common with the canon version. WHO CARES. ITS WORDS ON THE SCREEN. Who are they hurting if they're just #making AUs in their own corner and not shoving it in anyone's face? #Idk I just see a characterisation I don't agree with and just go oh. Kinda weird but go off. Right so Heinrich is, in his early to mid-70s, he is Ludwigs and Gilbert's paternal grandfather, The children were given to him after a car accident when Ludwig was very young and Gilbert was like, 6, since there was no more family of theirs left save for him, he took them in, at that point he had recently retired from being a mechanic after being in the army mechanic division until he was like 50, and didn't know what to do with himself, the children gave him a reason to do shit, Gilbert was horribly sad, just horribly, he got violent sometimes, the kid was 6 and lost his parents, he had reason to be like so, Ludwig missed them so bad, but as he grew up he remembered less and less of them, he was so small when they died that it would be strange for him to remember much.

Heinrich's wife died a good while ago, they never met their grandmother, a lot of their childhood was spent over at Romulus' and other old people's houses, old friends of Heinrich, they're a little odd because they never were really allowed to interact with people their own age outside of school, which is why Gilbert is so awkward and just Odd, and it does not help that Heinrich and Romulus were never Normal around him, like ever, Ludwig never picked up on this, there may be very mild undiagnosed autism going on there, same way with Jack's ADHD, Gilbert did, and now he can not be normal around Alfred specifically.
