controversial but i gottttta ramble (mostly bc we had an argument but shhhshhhshhh)

being emo isnt a strict genre. itz a sub category of punk and post hardcore and a lot of other things!

i see a lot of ppl argue that fall out boy, my chemical romance, and stuff like that aren’t emo bc they are pop punk. but in the community these bands hav had a huge impact and also they still classify under the emo genre.

there iz more nuance 2 being emo than just music. we’ve evolved our own fashion, traits, jokes, etc.

i also HATE seeing some ppl say “ur a poser if u only listen to mcr, fob, ptv, and all the mainstream bands” its sum serious hipster shit. just cuz a band is popular doesnt automatically mean sum1 is a poser. ive listened 2 a lot of these bands since i was a kid and first getting into the emo subculture.

should newer emos listen to sum bands other than the main few? sure!! itz great 2 expand ur playlist. but sum ppl are only comfortable listenin 2 a few bands, sometimes having a lot of bands u like can be overwhelming (esp with ND ppl)

idk im just upset. obviously there shuld b sum requirements to b emo like any subculture but if ur gatekeeping over the smallest detail and being a huge dick bc a random internet person doesnt meet your high standards u suck.
