hey!! i’ve been in ur spot ofc. i may be the entirely wrong person to ask about INCREASING engagement tho bc it took me almost a decade to get to 10k haha. i have not changed anything about the way i post that whole time 😭

BUT i have some good tips to try not to worry abt engagement if it’s bothering you to the “im posting in a black hole” point

draw & post for yourself first. putting ur audience or clout first will make you hate ur art or burn u out or both. the people who like what you draw will find ur stuff i promise

know ahead of time that 5min shitposts will almost always do better number wise than 5hr masterpieces. you CANNOT let this bother you. i have seen many ppl spiral over this and it’s just about how viral posts are often just more digestible/relatable. it is not a personal slight on ur art skill

stumble upon a lil community or discord of other artists and share and talk and draw together <- this is the most important thing. i don’t know how to find these but you will stumble on one or make one yourself and invite your artist friends. it’ll be good for u

I may be obsessing over Talon and Megan a tad bit…

I love all the possibilities of how they passed the time in the car so much. It would be so awkward at the start and I’m all here for it!! I imagine Talon carried most of the conversation from the beginning until after they really got to know each other. I feel like at the start Talon would just awkwardly try to tell her what has happened to the earth while she was gone in hopes of starting some conversation. I’m imagining the parking lot picnic with them just drinking slushees and eating whatever gas station food seemed good (I’m assuming everything is kind of run down?)

Car karaoke. Oh it would be amazing. Talon trying to find songs Megan likes and trying to get her to sing along, windows rolled down, it’d be such a vibe.

With the race scene I can’t stop picturing the scene from princess bride where they both are rolling down the hill XD

Their relationship is so great, two strangers bonding in a long car ride… oh wait they already knew each other? They were already in love from book one? But Megan’s memory was wiped- WAIT NO THEY WERE IN LOVE AND HER MEMORY WAS WIPED!?!? Okay, okay, it’s fine at least they became close again, just a fresh start nothing to worry about… HER MEMORY WAS WIPED A SECOND TIME!?!? TALON THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD!?!?!? Yay Question Time!

-I believe I could at least get the designs for those people sometime soon. They are just random people who decided to work for big bad (aka the voice, bc they only heard his voice through speakers at first). The voice decided he could make some good money abducting children and forcing them to be assassins so he did that. The government doesn’t know about them bc they hide in space. The few organizations trying to take them down are the only ones who really know about it

-talon has a few different tattoos, the one he got initiated with is a tattoo/ permanent burn so it has to stay covered to protect it, the other is just on his neck and he leaves that one in the open (I can point it out in the pics below)

-and yes! Tegan is the ship name for Talon and Megan (it was that or Melon hahaha)

-Ivan didn’t really have much personality in the oh other than he was angry bc the scientist that snuck into the escape ship was dating his crush, I’ve made some personal modifications to him in my head though making him more protective rather than just angry (he’s also Megan’s cousin) and I just remembered I have a drawing of him? So cue the picture section :)

i think with that fear and worry abt ai "doing it better" than ppl, it is good to know that we are unfair and biased with how we treat things and art

if i was shown a video of some great pianist playing a song id be like "hey thats great, what a fun watch" id enjoy it yeah. but if my friend was like "so ive been learning that same song" and they played it for me, but at half the speed, with lots of mistakes, and theyve only learned 50% of the song so far. id be fuckin stoked, id think that was so cool, id want to record it, like legitmately.

"its not nearly as clean as the one on the video tho" you fail to see how cool it is that my friends learning the song, its "irrational" i guess? but at the end of the day i think its really fucking cool and im really happy i get to see them play it. it may seem unfair, but when this applies to everyone, i think its fair.

ai is even more removed from this cuz its not a video of someone performing a song, its a pattern driven program creating it. at best its cool because its a technical feat of programming, that we (people) were able to create a program so complex, but thats it

hiii sorry if youve been asked this before, but i love how loose and flowy your art feels, especially the sketches! are there any specific inspirations to your work/do you do any specific studies to get that feeling? im trying to loosen up my own work and im sure a lot of it is just the time and practice, but im always looking for tips from artists i admire :D

I thinkk artists wise it was Claire Wendling who made me really wanna invest more time in line art! Ofc there's a lot of other infulences, my work looks nothing like hers, but it was like, the turning point of "oh. Man. You can really do so much with just line". People have said a couple times that my work reminds them of Egon Schiele. I wasnt familiar w him before that but I defi have let him infulence me even more after that.

AS FOR TIPS AND TRICKS. It's gonna defi depend a lot on your drawing practices. Im personally someone who draws a shit ton really fast, and sometimes returns to old work afterwards to makw some small corrections. I think tho these things affected me:

Getting materials for practice that are just, not worth anythimg so you dont stress about ruining them. Get some cheap ass paper and pens and just draw.

Draw w markers w/out sketching. It's really tough but it'll help you build more confidence. Do this pretty fast too. Things will look weird, tilted, off proportionally, but a) its practice b) in a couple of days you may find yourself drawn to these features. Theyre raw, honest and experimental and FUN.

Croquis!!!!! Live models are great, but so are videos/images. Unfortunately the vids at croquis cafe have been swiped off of yt & turned members only on their website... i am kinda concidering getting a membership bc they are fan fucking tastic videos... but image wise sketchdaily is a site that has timed photos for you to draw from. Yes, try the 10 second type stuff too. Not just that, just, try the full range of times possible. Shorter times force you to relax your hand and just go mindlessly without worrying abt "mistakes"

I think "mistakes" is important here. Ive had to learn that there is no one way to do art. Sometimes you will draw a hand way too big proportionally, but it makes the art more fun, cool/stylized, etc. I actually have some mild motoric clumsiness, and i think if you work w it, it can make for art ppl find endearing like in my case! I even sometimes lean into this, like by holding my pen in a childlike grip, to get a fun feel. It's all just experimentation and a shit ton of studies.

Idk if you saw what I was saying truly but your asking for art isn't the issue, it's how you can treat others when you do it. It's stressful for artists when someone tries to make them feel bad about not giving them something. I'm hopeful you've learnt/you'll learn to ease up on this behaviors tho as other artists said you treated them the same way.

Tho while I'm at it- feel free to be more confident in admitting you're asking for fanart for yourself, nothing wrong with it! Also it's good to ask if someone's doing requests first before asking if they haven't made a post for it before. Ik some were asking for requests tho my friend wasn't, so always good to check before you ask so you can know it's alright to & you won't waste your time and wont feel awkward/bad!

Again, idrc abt whatever else you've got going on. My only warnings to other artists was due to worrying how you may treat people I care about with me knowing smth that could've saved them from possible stress. Lies and guilt trippings aren't fun to deal with QuQ You've never wronged me before my post, so there's no real forgiveness to seek from me personally.

I get being excited to see your things be drawn by super cool people, just try to be a bit more considerate. Artists are people just like you and their art is more for their enjoyment than others tbh. needed an art dump for all my (admittedly not very good) sketches for souichi from my saiki k/junji ito crossover so heres his house layout

and no it's not harsh black on white its ao3 dark mode colors (very pleasing to the eye) so u don't need to worry abt eyestrain

heres the whole house and its layout

i dont actually know if they would have a wall around their house, but i assume they would bc that seems like a staple in Japanese properties regardless of price. their yard is smaller than pictured, i just didn't wanna obscure it too much.

the house looks bad but it gives u a good idea of what it looks like so

in case u cant read my writing bc of the stabilizer, next to the tv in the 1st floor is the shrine. next to the stairs is the washer and dryer and then the bathroom.

the 2nd floor notes explain that the hallway is covered in various framed pictures of the tsujii family with a significant jump from right before fuchi's attack to after. (ill probably go more into depth if souichi ever brings anyone over, but souichi is normally smirking or obviously annoyed in most pics pre-fuchi, but just looks miserable or actually in pain in any after)

the attic. i havent decided whats up there, but ive decided that the door is locked and souichi stole the key. i might have mentioned that the house didn't have an attic, and i like that idea, so i think the attic's totally unuseable due to the insulation and stuff. souichi probably would have cleaned it up if he wasn't injured, but yk.

the downstairs is def inspired by the anime "inuyashiki" it's so heartwrenching i watched it twice and cried both times. highly recommend. it's basically if light yagami got turned into a robot alongside an old man and it's only 10 or 11 episodes but GOD im gonna make more references to it at some point.

souichi's bedroom

souichi’s the standing thingy while the other thingy standing against his wardrobe is that weird statue thingy he has which ive decided it a halloween prop he got and decided it was a hone onna he captured and sealed

for reference, souichi's about 5"4, but his hunch (which is probably more dramatic than shown) makes him seem a lot shorter. canonically, he's like 4"9-11 but everyone thought he was 5"4 so i figured i'd make him 5"4.

theres stuff in the bookshelf i just didnt feel like putting anything in there. the emptiness on top of the shelves and the actual shelf is intentional bc souichi cant comfortably reach them!! he also doesn't have that cloth over his light bc once again he can't reach it. that's also why his hone onna is propped between the dresser and the wardrobe rather than hanging, bc he couldn't put it up and no one helped him

i also hope that the proportions are right. souichi wouldn't be able to reach a top shelf within the wardrobe and i think he's a bit too tall in the second pic but u know what i mean

the thingy with the wheels by the door is actually a thingy i have irl! its got three levels of tiny shelves with abt 3 inch walls. i use it to store my sewing stuff and any fabric or yarn i need for current projects. its also a lot taller. (sorry that its blurry and the lines are thicker than the other stuff i had to resize and didn't feel like redrawing)

his wardrobe's got clothes in it, but i think his bookshelf would probably have a few books and then his dolls everywhere else. his kokkuri geisha is top-shelf and constantly berates him when he talks to it about giving it a proper place to sit. souichi can't move her tho bc her box is so heavy and no one wants to touch it anymore. (it was put there temporarily and misako and shuji kept putting off putting her elsewhere)

if anyone wants a closeup of any room just ask!! ive got heights for all the characters planned and i might sketch out some of the pictures on the walls

my fiancée and I often say you can tell which writers liked sabes vs. those who didn’t just by how he’s written. Personally I like the sabes that’s overconfident and genuinely acts like a slick mf just bc I feel like when he’s written like that he feels more like a complex character.

yea!!! he’s always been different from most villains, having a witty sense of humor + making popculture references + generally not taking most things seriously(but he’ll still get the job done regardless. professional in work, unprofessional in speech lol). he’s more on the side of a deadpool type character, being a merc n all, and the big ‘villain plans’ he does are ones towards wolverine, and a lot of the time those are just for personal reasons rather than for just being evil for evils sake. thats why the whole inverted arc + exiles series feel so natural to me, since it makes sense for his character to lead into being more of an antihero(yknow, until they reverted him back to normal for some god awful reason….why couldnt he have gotten the deadpool treatment man come on v_v)

even tho its always super sad to see him in angsty situations, those comics are important in proving that he does have emotions too. always has, probably always will, despite all the shit that he’s gone thru. which ig makes it worse for him, since it anyone he cares about doesnt usually get a good ending…its something he shares with logan, where their characters are never allowed to love or be loved without consequence. which is also probably the reason im so attached to the concept of them being together, since they cant really be hurt or ever really die, and wouldnt ever have to worry about that ever again :,)
