Where that was a minor inconvenience that no one person was really responsible for but affected just about everyone on the planet equally, this is a great tragedy for a handful of stupid idiots who built the world's shittiest submarine and they are the only ones affected by it in the slightest

I've seen a couple people saying they're jumping ship for [other big socmed] after the AI announcement here, but like. Guys. Friends. You do realize all the other sites have been silently working with big AI companies for a while now. Bluesky has not implemented any acknowledgement or protection, and the CEO worked with crypto for years. They're just not broadcasting it or giving you an option to help remove your work from automatic scraping. Cohost has implemented similar levels of prevention compared to Tumblr.

I greatly prefer the transparency and the tiny bit of protection, no matter how flimsy. Tumblr is pretty awful, but it's still better than everything else so far. Which sucks but until we burn down the plutocracy, this isn't gonna be escapable.

(Also, no Tumblr did not quietly sneak this in. They literally announced it before implementing.)

And my thoughts on the CEO being... himself.

here's the thing i supported their patreon (at their lowest tier but still) because i genuinely liked them and wanted them to succeed and i felt like i was contributing to that even if it was in a very small way. but i did that voluntarily and because i could afford it and it helped them make content that was free for people who couldn't afford it. forcing people to pay for your previously free content- which is currently just one 30ish minute video a week- feels greedy and dismissive of the goodwill and love they've built up within their fanbase

Clay had angst potential or going into depth about his fear.. especially when it affects him straight after losing someone.

Let me explain really quick (because apparently people like when I full on complain or talk about interesting things about this what.. 8-9 year old lego show..)

I love his character so much, but the show just kinda shoves things about them into your face without adapting onto them, an example of this is Clay and his fear of failure or failing people. In terms of how this genuinely builds his character (and how I can use this to rewrite him??).

Especially when you get more context about his fears in ep5 and how he quite literally cannot focus (or function properly for that matter) of he feels as if he’s fucked something up, or in other words completely failed them.

In episode 1/2? (can’t exactly remember) he thought that he already failed at being a knight because he couldn’t do the one thing for Merlok, and that was to protect him, and that was because Merlok sacrificed himself to protect Clay instead.

I get that this is some sort of beginning to character development, but theres no way the lingering fear that he completely failed merlok isn’t there even after he semi returned in episode 2

(I’m a sucker for his character.. I really am, but the way WAY TOO MUCH goes ignored is actually going to give me a headache)

Oh my god, okay okay.. nobody walks away from a horrible fucking place that was quite literally threatening, or quite literally being cruel people and act as if it was all fine and dandy. (I KNOW it involved an evil book but that isn’t really an acceptable way to just downplay the way the hotel was treating people)

I can’t really explain how but I absolutely hate that episode with every bone in my body, I cannot stand it. (and that says a lot, usually I love episodes focused on a specific thing)

Evil Tim AU where the horror doesn’t come from Tim being an unspeakably, brutally violent man (he has people for that), particularly towards Jon, but where the horror comes from how quietly and completely he manages to take over the man’s life by taking advantage of a bad situation.

Tim being less of a stereotypically abusive partner in favor of Jon looking up one day to find that every one of his allies has been ruthlessly killed, his penthouse no longer looks like it’s his, he no longer has any of his former power- and, try as he might, he can’t remember when things became this way.

One time my professor told us half-jokingly that our homework for the weekend was to do something illegal and that he would bail us out if we got arrested. ("I've bailed people out of jail before, I'd do it for most of you.") The context is that we had established during class that you are not only morally justified but actually morally obligated to break the law if said law is unjust.

Anyways, that's Jack Kelly as a professor methinks, except he would actually mean it. Like I think he would make it a full assignment with a report and everything, host multiple group carpools, and provide an example list. He has committed every crime on the list. He has indeed had to bail a student out of jail before. This has not stopped him. "I have a sister-in-law who's one of the best lawyers in New York. As long as you don't cause someone to be hospitalized or cause major property damage we'll get you off the hook."

i have a possibly controversial opinion to say

obviously, some media is just copaganda, trying to make you view the police in a more positive light so you don't think about their wrongdoings

but you know how some media seems to be very anti police, until one character shows up and is a good cop?

people insist this is copaganda too, and they may be right. the idea of no good cops is real, bc the system itself is corrupt

however. i want to apply good faith reading for a second. at least to the independent creators who make these pieces of media. and say that maybe this is less a reflection of real life (as in, it's not that they think there are good cops irl), but rather what they HOPE real life was like

most of us are taught from a very young age to always trust the police and to go to cops when we're in need of help. as time goes on, however, many of us unlearn that sentiment, from observing cops' behavior and violence.

still, it makes sense for some people to hold onto hope that there are good cops. that if they ask for help, someone will give it to them. and they may not express it out loud - they may not even realize that hope is there at all - but it will be expressed in their art

i think the fictional trope of "one good cop in a corrupt system" (or the subtrope of it, "one good cop who's gonna fix the system from the inside") is not necessarily an antithesis to anti cop mentalities. i think it's more of an embodiment of a somewhat childish hope that some ppl have no choice but to cling to, because it's better than realizing no one can help you

now I'm not saying we shouldn't call this out or point out why it's harmful. but i do think that, again, at least with independent creators who could very easily read any comment you make about their art, we should try to apply this good faith reading here and there and be at least more gentle in our criticism of it.

#I'd argue another version of this can be the trope of good ceo or manager characters #bc ppl would like to imagine that the people at the top actually want what's best for them aka the workers #even if that's rarely the case irl. at least in large companies #think abt how despair inducing it is to learn that these people don't actually care #the people who aren't directly affected (for example. white ppl when it comes to police violence) can be in denial about it #but only up to a certain point. bc it's not like you can ignore reality forever. still! it is very depressing to remember the truth #but fiction is not the truth. stories are how we engage with ideas. including our hopes for a better world #i dunno if any of that makes sense. i might delete this later. but these are the thoughts I'm having rn
