I’ve plugged Pierrot Perfumery (formerly GoblinCrow) before, but I just want to say how unabashedly generous they are with orders - I ordered five small samples of their latest scents and they sent me two additional samples and an ENTIRE bottle of another. They doubled my order and everything smells beyond divine.
Queer-created, queer-approved. Genuinely unique, often bizarre, perfectly strange fragrance. I’m not at all compensated or even encouraged to advertise; I’m just very happy to do so.

A City on Fire, Imaginary Authors
Cade oil, Spikenard, Cardamom, Clearwood, Dark Berries, Labdanum, Burnt Match
when i decided to get a sample set of imaginary authors scents, City on Fire drew me in simply because it's reputation. see, this scent is controversial as hell. (indie perfume drama, i love it) you either love it, or you hate it. these are the things i love about indie fragrance, the controversial, weird, and downright off putting scents that indie companies can put out. to me though, city on fire walks a fine line between gross and nice that makes it intriguing
this scent hits right out the gate strong and honestly, smelling weirdly like barbecue. yeah its a rough start i wont lie,,, it takes like a good 15 minutes to settle into being wearable. after it starts to mingle with my skin chemistry though it morphs into this cool, smokey, spicy scent. it smells so interesting! it's distinctly masculine and super mysterious. its not quite a "damn that smells good" smell but more of a "i need to keep sniffing this so i can figure out wtf it is??" i really really like it even though its not something i would wear often. hardcore winter smell. its strong and it wants to be known so not great for folks with sensitive noses.
9/10 winter statement piece

This is Ritual by Poesie Perfumes
Ritual is a beautifully crafted atmospheric scent.  It transports you to the edge of a pine forest, sitting next to a cold, moonlit lake.  It makes you feel as if you had just finished performing a ritual under the full moon.  A stick of dragon’s blood incense has just finished burning, you’re about to light a clove cigarette to decompress.  The cold lake water is splashing against the rocky bank, the smell of the forest envelopes you.  The crisp breeze is stirring fallen leaves and pine needles.
The pine in this is really lovely, it’s not overpowering and mixes with slightly damp, earthy fallen leaves, and the clove really well.  The incense is present only in the background, the smoke is light on the crisp fall air.  The aquatic note isn’t stagnant at all.  This lake isn’t dirty.  It’s clean and fresh and dark and cold, but still distinctly aquatic.  The leaves also aren’t musty or mildewy.  They just add a nice earthy quality to the bottom of the perfume.
Ritual is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of atmospheric perfumes.  I gave it a 3.8/5, which is, admittedly, rather low for what this perfume is giving.  I’m not a huge pine fan, so this one isn’t for me, but I urge you to try it if you can find a bottle or sample of it.  If you like pine scents or atmospherics this one is literally the most perfect scent I can recommend to you.
It's no longer available on Poesie's site as it was a part of their limited edition Dark Academia collection, but I'm sure you can find someone reselling it, possibly on the Indie Makeup and More subreddit on Sundays.

“I consider all of my perfumes gender neutral, but I especially like how this particular fragrance opens classically feminine, bright and playful but dries down into something very masculine, cool and dry.”

for christmas my love bought me some samples from indie fragrance houses and then full sized a few of my favourites for my birthday. i’m so very excited for them to arrive!!
Holy Terror - Arcana Wildcraft - “There are utterly somber and fearsome spirits which are known to haunt certain long-deserted chapels, monasteries, and abbeys. An unsettling, austere blend of burning frankincense, sandalwood, deep myrrh, and dusty beeswax candles.”
this will easily become the signature scent for both myself and my love. we loved it in the bottle, and even more on skin. it really does smell just like a dusty old church, the beeswax candles are sweet and it has that distinct smoke of candles just blown out. the resinous incense is scrumptious and it is at once atmospheric while being completely wearable.
The Honored Ghosts - Alkemia - “An offering of Earl Grey tea, black raspberry creams, rosewater-saffron syrup, cinnamon honey, white amber, and vanilla incense.”
i wasn’t sure about the black raspberry note at first, but this is such a delicious fruity, creamy tea and the cinnamon and vanilla incense are so lovely that i often find myself craving the scent. for me it evokes images of sitting in the garden drinking tea from a pretty vintage teacup with little purple violets or pansies on it.
Cemetery Tour - The Strange South - “Osmanthus, crumbling stone, brick dust, moss, and graveyard dirt.”
i don’t usually enjoy florals on myself, and i don’t get the graveyard dirt in this at all which i was most excited for, but i absolutely love this scent. it is such a soft, sweet, dusty white floral, reminiscent of memorial or funerary flowers. it feels delicate and beautifully melancholic.

New indie house obsession: Hex Mundi. The occult-inspired names caught my eye, the deliciously unique scents will have me coming back. Not a single miss in this sampler, which would have been kinder to my wallet. Alas, ever longer grows the wishlist.

Manta Ray First Impressions
Tumblr media
So, my order from Nui Cobalt came in yesterday, and I just immediately sniffed the samples before they had time to settle. I got a bit of this one on my finger, so I was just like "fuck it, I'm wearing this today."
This scent started similarly to Little Brown Rabbit even though they have different notes. Maybe it's because I didn't let it settle at all.
I didn't get a lot of blueberries on the skin, but if I didn't huff my arm like I normally do, I got the smell of blueberries in the air. On the skin, it smelled kind of like Little Brown Rabbit to me.
After a few hours, I started smelling something warm and woody, which I think is the ambergris accord? I'm not an expert, so I don't know, but I did look up the scent profile of ambergris. I really like the bottom note on this perfume, even though I didn't let it settle.
The base note smells like a few different things, but if I had to pick one word to describe it, it would be "warm" or "comfortable." It's pretty subtle, almost like a slightly sweet musk.
Overall, I really like this scent, especially the ambergris accord, and I will definitely revisit this once it's had time to settle to see if it smells any different.

Foxcroft, Solstice Scents
Decaying Leaves, Rich Black Soil, Dry Leaves, Fall Air, Woods, Chimney Smoke
alright. this was the scent i was most jazzed for when i bought from ss. i dont know what living in the pnw is like but this is what i would imagine it to be. Foxcroft is a dark dense forest, wet from rain that let up only moments before you entered. it feels damp in a way? dark and moody and dead leaves but in a decaying way not a crunchy christian girl autum way.
i love it
out the bottle, it hits you with a piercing slap of freshly mowed lawn. but once it hits the skin it cools down into this wearable mix of of wet soil and leaves and the wet air after a good rain. now on me i get not a smidge of smoke. i dont know why, maybe my skin just doesnt gaf about it. still, i dont find myself missing it. as for wearability, i find it very wearable but it's for sure a casual fragrance. i wouldn't wear this to a special event or anything. but for a wet fall day (or the times i spend yearning for one) it's perfect
7/10 fall casual scent

i've been saving up to buy new perfume but i can't find any that's close enough to what i'm looking for. i want to find a fragrance that smells like humidity, spanish moss, old dusty rotting wood, church incense, tobacco, floral, vanilla, dark earthy type scent. kinda smells like the pictures, like an old church basement in the summer. if anyone has any recommendations at all please let me know, thank you :)
