[colm] if you paint a beautiful historic home white, you should be executed by firing squad.

[grant] jesus christ on a bike, that's a bit dramatic...but i am inclined to agree in spirit! fuck white paint and fuck house flippers.

[colm] and fuck HGTV while we're at it! they'll pay for making for-profit renovations a trend.

[shannon] the sad part is the house had so much wood stuff–chair railings, archways, doors–and that’s all been painted. at least most of it has. at least they didn't destroy the real hardwood floors or the stairs. oh, and all the wallpaper in the living room.

[colm] i would die before i got rid of that wallpaper.

[grant] wallpaper, my beloved <3

[shannon] i wish there was more of it. you can tell there was wallpaper in the bedrooms as well but it's been torn out and not very cleanly.

[grant] about the wood, though, you can probably get a professional to strip off the paint and restore the wood. actually, no, i know someone for that. okay, well, no, i know someone who would know someone else for that. remind me to send you my friend irina's number later. she's an interior designer and, like, a good one. she has plenty of contacts with other professionals. oh, and she likes color and funkiness and refuses to work with house flipper types!

[shannon] you know, you're really so lucky. i've never been in your house because of obvious long distance reasons but i've seen pics and you have all that gorgeous old paneling. you didn't have to work to get it back. how does it feel to live my dream?

[colm] by the way, when do we get a formal invite to your house, my good man? now that shannon's back, it's time we celebrate it.

[shannon] right! i want a personal house tour!

i started with my go-to simlicy save, so most of the residential lots and many of the community lots are by simlicy. i agonized over lot placement and number of each type of lot; i only ever play one family so it makes sense for me to have fewer residential lots and tons of community lots. i'm missing a lot of packs so this is pretty carefully curated to fit with what i do have (i'm used to replacing wallpaper and some furniture for most gallery builds but if it's missing much more than that I try a different lot). i love community lots that a) have things for sims to do and b) look pretty. all of these fit and i highly recommend every single one!!

So, Stardew Valley?

I spent all yesterday recreating Stardew Valley in the Sims 4 in HOB... I built 8 lots and stole 4 off the gallery because there was no way I was building all 12... Are there any you want to see? I didn’t build Marnie’s/Leah’s, Pierre’s/Harvey’s, Willy’s Bait shop, or the starter farm, but everything else was my insane self yesterday who forgot to eat. I need to make the character’s still so that's today’s problem :)

We’re picking up right where we left off from last time with the Delgato’s. Supriya’s watching some early morning television while Evie is playing in her room. ...it certainly says something that tv has very much switched over from watching cable or what few channels you can get for free to just picking and choosing what you want from streaming these days. If you have the internet. It isn’t reflected that well in the Sims too much but I guess you still have those this is a romance show and this is a comedy and this is an action but eh. Granted, I don’t even have the means to watch television so I’m very out of the loop.

Anyway, Evie’s the only one awake at 8AM at this point. And you know what she has? No child friends at all. That’s a problem that needs fixing! So there are two locations kids tend to hang out at during the day. Either the park or the library. I’ve already shown off the sketchy teen-hangout place that I kinda more intend as that teen-hangout place rather than for kids to play in at so why don’t we visit the nearby library right across the street?

...or I would, if I didn’t notice Evie was getting close to low energy. Dang. What the heck am I supposed to do with a kid? What do kids even do? Read books, play with toys, play on the computer? So that’s what I do. Just watch some videos and browse Simpedia a bit before she heads off to bed.

Thankfully Pierce woke up at this time and unlike his sister, he has concrete wants and whims. Alongside a neat disposition he learned from his late father. So for the most part, I had him clean up the messes around the house and give a bath to Lazerwolf as well. Then we can focus on his wants and whims which is tied to his aspiration. And the next step on the progress to that one is to meet someone new in a third location. Teens are extremely elusive for some reason. The only place outside of Teen Hangout lots is that they spawn later in the evening loitering around neighborhoods and especially parks. Teen drama time. I decide to browse his skills for ideas and spotted that Pierce had Research and Debate at level 2. And he strikes me as a dude who would do some basic college prep, aka, get his research and debate up to level 3 before he heads off to college so off to that library again!

I saw the huge lot at this area of Newcrest and my single thought was, “What a good spot for a library.” Thankfully, a user named irrelephant7 agreed with me and came up with the library-esque library ever! Unfortunately, the whole excuse for me to go to the library, aka working on research and debate skill, didn’t work because the research machine immediately broke down as soon as Pierce touched it. Bah. But his reason for popping to the library still stood. Introducing himself to someone!

I picked Tetsuya Otomo. He’s one of the trailer sims for Snowy Escape that I added into my file. He’s a Conservationist! While the game pulls that over to Sulani, I’d like to think he’s protecting Mt. Komorebi and the mountain instead. Pierce cheered up Testuya’s day and played a game of chess with him and became friends quick. Which is good because he needs 12 of them at this point for his aspiration. Still I dragged Pierce over to a different library with a working research machine. I want that skill up dang it.

Back home we go. Supriya wants to talk to someone who was a neighbor. And I get to work. For you see, I believe, they should be rivals. Slightly disliked. For Supriya had suspisions on this Kayla and the fact she voted in the Free Love NAP in that neighborhood. Meanwhile, Pierce had the want to make something so I set him to craft up a woodwork and then Evie was sent off to the nearby monkey bars. Nice to have that to just hang out at.

And so these two now dislike each other. No negative sentiments on Supriya’s end though. Only on Kayla, who is hurt by all of this yelling. She thought Supriya was a friend!

But also, finally, I turn my attention to Supriya’s aspiration. To become a Friend of the Animals. This final stage is going to be tricky because we can become friends with other pets...it’s just difficult because we only really have the dog park to hang out at and no strays running around Newcrest. And also, playing with ghost pets. Those’ll spawn later at night at Brindelton’s island lot, which still has it’s museum. It’s late at night so it’s the perfect opportunity to do this.

...expect it’s thunderstorming. Beautiful. But I am stubborn so I’M GOING TO DO THIS.

GHOST PUPPER SPOTTED! Time to make the friendliest introduction! She’s a good pupper and I would take her home with me but it’s a ghost puppy! I did want to boost the relationship a bit more so I could feel the love with her. Another marker for this aspiration after all. It took until the thunder stopped but I got it! Supriya very nearly got to pissing herself in the process but hey. It’s all for her aspiration’s sake. With that we return home, making it time for

TS4 Asylum Challenge: The Asylum

Now that you have met who lives here, it is time to see where they are committed.

I used “Abandoned Victorian Manor” created by irrelephant7

I used it without the furniture so that I could add my own to stick to the rules of the challenge. Here is what I could have:

After reading several posts and watching countless YouTube videos, I finally decided to try my hand at the Sims 4 Decade Challenge. I was genuinely excited to try this challenge, as I had never tried one before. Thank you to Zombie Cleo for creating this challenge.

Here is my founder, John Abbott and his wife, Mary. Most of the content is in-game, with the exception of Mary’s skirt, which is CC that I downloaded from The Sims Resource. The house was downloaded from the gallery and created by irrelephant7. I modified it slightly as I went.
