the sweet things in life (tsukishima x reader)

chapter 8: back gym
After dinner later in the day, you helped the other managers with the dishes before taking your leave and heading back out to where the guys were. You saw Tsukishima sitting by himself and decided to go sit with him.
"Where are all your friends?" you joked as you took a seat across from him. He merely glanced at you and rolled his eyes.
"I don't see yours here either" he retorted.
"Where's Yamaguchi?"
"I don't know. Don't really care either," he said, avoiding eye contact. He looked back at you and smirked, clearly just trying to get a reaction out of you.
"Be nice!" you scoffed and swatted his arm.
The two of you decided to have a look around the school (it was more your idea than Tsukishima's, but he wasn't objecting). The two of you were walking past one of the gyms when a voice suddenly shouted out in your general direction.
"Hey, you Karasuno" a voice came, "would you jump some blocks for us?"
Kuroo eyed you up and down before commenting:
"Your little manager can watch." Your heart slightly dropped hearing that. His naturally suggestive tone made your face heat up and caused you to look up to see Tsukishima's answer.
"Whatever," he muttered and walked in, as you followed close behind. You decided to sit up against the wall so you could watch him. He made sure that you were fine before he handed his water bottle to you and headed over to the net. You acted merely as a spectator, for once not being obligated to do anything manager related outside of being in charge of his water. It was always mesmerizing to watch the players up close. Bokuto had very powerful swings, and Akaashi was just a beautiful specimen in every aspect of his game. You of course paid attention to Tsukishima mostly, for both personal and manager reasons. It was important for you to see how your team played and you also just liked to watch his tall form.
"You know four-eyes, you're great at reading attacks, but your blocks are pretty weak" Bokuto said. Tsukishima looked pissed. "Like, your arms are so frail I feel like I'm gonna break them". Kuroo only added on to the criticism with a similar sentiment, causing Tsukishima's blood to boil.
"It's just a sport anyway, why should I care?" he retorted. The others tried to further explain that they were trying to help him improve, but he was hearing none of it.
He grabbed you and walked out. Evidently, he was very upset and you weren't really sure to what extent. The two of you walked in silence for a little while, before you stopped. He kept walking before noticing you were no longer next to him, and he turned around. The questioning, annoyed look on his face made your heart drop, but you wanted to know more.
"Why do you never push yourself to get better, or practice more Tsukki? You make such a big deal out of volleyball not being important to you even though you're so gifted," you question him.
He didn't respond to you at first. You wondered if he'd even heard you at all, but he walked over to you and grabbed your hands in his. You looked up at him to see his head down, face forlorn and clear devastation in his eyes. He was trying to put into words the emotional turmoil he had been in for years. Unbeknownst to you, it was something he had never told anyone, not even Yamaguchi knew all of it. You squeezed his hands in support, which seemed to bring him back to you. You sadly smiled at him and encouraged him that he could tell you anything.
"Akiteru... my brother." he paused, "At one time, I looked up to him. He was the ace of his team when he was in middle school, and I thought it was so cool. I was proud to be 'the ace's brother'. He's the one who got me in to volleyball." he told you. You nodded to show that you were listening and urged him to continue.
"When he got to Karasuno, he started telling me not to come to his games anymore, because it would make him too nervous to know he had family there watching. I should have known better then, but I was just a dumb kid. I actually believed him for a while, then I decided to show up to a game." he hesitated, seemingly reliving the memory. "He wasn't starting. He wasn't even on the team. He had lied to me and made a fool out of me. Even now it's the reason I can't ever trust anyone. And I definitely can't let myself see volleyball as more than a stupid club," he spoke bitterly, "because when you care so much, and try so hard, you suffer later" he shut his eyes. Your heart broke for him. It was obvious he had been carrying this with him for a long time. He seemed like he wanted to cry, but he was holding it in and there was no physical sign of tears. You wanted to do as much as you could to make him feel better.
"Oh Kei," you removed one of your hands from his and pressed it to his cheek. He leaned his face against it appreciatively. You reached up and kissed his other cheek and softly spoke to him in the hope that you could make him feel better. You weren't likely to have this opportunity of him opening up like this again anytime soon.
"I know you can do it. You won't end up like your brother just because you work hard. You need to find the thing that makes you want to keep playing and get better" you told him. The warm summer breeze blew his hair a little bit. The look he was giving you was filled with affection, admiration, and intrigue. The two of you stared into each others eyes for what felt like minutes. A chill runs down your spine from both the feeling of his stare and a small gust of wind, breaking the trance and causing Tsukishima to step forward. It would have been a nice time for a kiss, you couldn't help but think. But you also didn't want him to be dealing with negative emotions when and if it ever happened, so it was probably a good thing it didn't. "Let me walk you back to your room" he offered, grabbing your hand.
"How sweet" you responded. Your cheeky smile made him scoff.
"Shut it before I regret it" he playfully threatened. He wouldn't regret it either way, though. After walking for another minute, you reached the outside of the managers room. You reached up and wrapped your arms around him, which he quickly returned. You were already addicted to his embraces despite this only being the second one.
"Goodnight (y/n)" he said, letting go of you and giving you the smallest of smiles. You could barely even consider it a smile, but for him there was no doubt it was true. The use of your first name combined with a genuine smile from him made your heart flutter, and you wished you could spend even longer with him. You hadn't expected any of this from him, but you liked it a lot and wanted this side of him more often.
"Night, Kei" you returned his smile.
You opened the door and waved goodbye, watching him walk off. The big grin you had had wouldn't come off of your face. You shut the door and turned around, only to nearly jump out of your skin due to all of the other managers standing around you.
"Sooo, (L/n)'s got a boyfriend hm?" Kaori slyly said.
"We aren't dating guys" you hurriedly explained. You already knew the direction this was heading in and attempted to shut it down before it went off the rails.
"That's so cute! Look, she's all flustered" Miyanoshita squealed excitedly.
All of you sat down on your respective futons and they began to question you about the 'tall, blond, jerkish Karasuno first year'. You decided to humor them, and figured it would be nice to talk to the girls about the guy you liked.
"I don't know, I get that he's a little rough and rude around the edges, but he's really not like that when you get to know him" you told them. Some of the girls responded positively, while others still wondered exactly what you saw in him.
That didn't surprise you, to be fair. To a lot of people, Tsukishima was unlikeable and unreachable. He was cold, snarky, straight up cruel at times, and overall it didn't seem like he had any interest in making new friendships. To you, though, you appreciated how logical he was, he never sugarcoated anything. You never had to question if he was lying to you because he would say exactly what he thought, regardless of whether it was hard to swallow. You felt special that you were one of the only people that could see the softer, sweeter side of him. It had been amazing to break down his walls and become closer with him, and you could honestly say you trusted him more than nearly every other guy in school. You gave the abridged version of your thoughts (you didn't want to tell them everything), and the girls all had pretty positive reactions. There were 'awws' and managers commenting on how cute it was that you two were seemingly opposites on the outside, but managed to contrast each other in a good way. Each of the girls were pretty talkative about the whole thing, save for one. It didn't go unnoticed by the other girls, however.
"Say, Yachi, you've been awfully quiet ever since we started talking about Tsukishima" Mako notices. She raised her eyebrow in question. "No I haven't!" she hissed. It was kind of uncharacteristic of her to get so defensive over something seemingly so trivial. Unless...
"Yachi, do you also like him?" Yukie questioned.
Honestly, that wasn't something you had considered before. You felt a strange feeling in your stomach hearing that. Jealousy? You had the urge to claim he was yours right then and there, pretend that you had been lying and that the two of you actually were dating. It made you start to overthink, had Tsukki ever shown a preference for her? Were you misreading his actions towards you as truly affectionate? You didn't want to dislike Yachi, but you were nervous at the possible competition you would face if she also liked him.
"No! N-no I don't, I promise!" she quickly stuttered out, making terrified eye contact with you for a split second before turning away. It was likely she had noticed your harsh, silent stare. She then got a little quiet, "there's actually someone else I like".
You breathed a sigh of relief as the other girls all started to interrogate her.
"Who? Please tell us!"
"Is he from your school?! Or Nekoma maybe?"
"It's- it's Yamaguchi" she trailed off, and couldn't really be heard. The other girls questioned her again.
"Yamaguchi!" she said louder this time. Now you were more interested in the conversation. "Awww, that's so cute!"
You pictured the two and had to admit, it actually might be kind of cute to see them together. If they actually did get together, then you really would have to get closer with her. Yamaguchi was Tsukishima's best friend, after all.
"That's great Yachi" you spoke. Her head turned to you with a shocked look. You gave her a kind smile before the moment was interrupted by one of the Fukurodani managers.
"You first years are so adorable! Young love is a beautiful thing" Kaori swooned dramatically. She was kidding, of course, but you still retaliated.
"You're young too!" You pointed out. Kiyoko laughed at your comment and you understood why the guys always tried their hardest to impress her.
After all the excitement, the rest of the night went well. Your phone had buzzed and you saw a short 'thanks' message from Kei, which made your heart happy. You played games and talked until all of you were exhausted and you finally curled up on your futons. You drifted off to sleep to dreamlike thoughts of dancing, with a tall blond holding you in his arms.

“I’m only a little dead. It’s not that big of a deal” from Monster Mash Prompts by @juicywritinghoard
Time is a construct (sorry for the delay! I was in deadline hell, and then I wanted it to be good, and then I forgot how to write for a while in there, but @ceilingfan5 reminded me.) Am I done with the vampire AU? Absolutely not (the one below comes first).
__________
Lup had always liked night shifts. They were wrapped in a softness that daylight hours weren’t. Everyone was a bit sleepier, a bit calmer, grateful that they had somewhere to go. When she and Taako blew into town and saw the near-ish all night diner was hiring, they snatched the jobs up. Taako cooked, Lup served, they studied through the lulls, and got at least one square meal per shift (plus whatever Taako could squirrel away into his layered coats and cardigans). It wasn’t like their other work paid well, or at all. Walking home in the early hours had its benefits too; they made sure to take the long way, the less safe way, the dark-alleys-and-unlit-streets way. Better them than someone else - they knew what they were doing, they knew why they were doing it.
Training was quick, Day-Shift-Carole was ‘impressed by their ingenuity’. Lup and Taako were grateful for mass production. Same coffee pot, same griddle, different city. She talked them through the till, the exact place to tap on the days it decided not to open, and the sticky keys that needed coaxing. She talked them through the regulars too, Lup’s favourite was Barry. He came in three nights a week, drank coffee, read books, and took a lot of notes. It turned out that he read about astrophysics, didn’t drink the coffee he ordered, and was definitely a vampire. Lup should have staked him by now. She was going to! That first night, she was going to, but then he’d noticed her looking at his hands (he must have been buffing his nails down every night to hide the points) and thought she was looking at his book instead. To be fair, The Disordered Cosmos was on her to-read list, and she couldn’t exactly kill a guy in the middle of her shift… not front-of-house anyway, so she went with it. May as well get some intel, find out why he was sitting here happy to debate theories and not trying to drink her like a capri sun.
A few hours later she knew about his job teaching astrophysics night classes (of course, could this guy be any more obvious?) at the local college, decided to hunt down his most recent publications to see if he actually knew his stuff, and had mostly forgotten about the whole ‘gonna have to kill him’ thing. She’d even been disappointed to hear the bell jingle across the door to announce another customer. By the time she had settled them and taken their order, Barry was gone, leaving a cold mug full of black coffee and a $20 bill behind.
That was three months ago. She hadn’t told Taako yet, wasn’t quite sure how. His new favourite sport was teasing her about her nerdy ‘boyfriend’ and she didn’t want to ruin that for him. It was important to let him feel joy, so obviously this was purely selfless. Plus, there was no world in which Taako decided that it was cool for her to hang out with a vampire because the dude was willing to spend an hour talking through what exactly here and now referred to and whether here was really the diner or earth or a tiny spec on a telescope some alien was using right now. Taako’d work it out eventually, but for now no one was in danger and Lup had lots to learn.
Barry stopped in at least four nights a week. He brought her books, recommended articles, and never made her feel like her questions weren’t valuable. She baked him cookies sometimes, just to keep up the facade, it was pretty adorable that he thought he was hiding it well. Barry always took them gratefully and told her how much they’d been enjoyed the next time he was in. She pretended not to notice the careful phrasing. He was polite and courteous, didn’t even look at her ass when she dropped the sugar packets… an increasingly regular occurrence. Obviously it was always an accident, but it was important research to know what his motives were. In fact, in the name of science she should probably slip Barry her number, get a chance to speak to him alone and work out exactly what his deal was. He wasn’t like any of the vampires she’d met before, and okay, he could be playing the long game, but why? He knew her shift patterns, knew her scent by now, could easily track her home. He obviously hadn’t eaten any of the other staff here either - no one had mentioned any abrupt disappearances. He wasn’t a threat.
She and Taako handed over to the early shift staff, shrugged their layers back on, and began the longer-than-necessary walk home. Taako was in the middle of complaining about how much he smelled like the fryer when she heard the crunch of broken glass behind them. Lup kept her walk loose, but glanced to Taako, he gave the slightest nod without breaking stride.
“I’m telling you Lulu, this is not the perfume Taako deserves.”
“I don’t know, I think it suits you, l’eau de frites. Tres chic!”
Taako gasped in horror at her teasing and replied in kind. Lup laughed casually, but tuned him out as she reached into her oversized coat pocket and eased her hand over the smooth wood of her stake. They were armed, they wouldn’t be harmed. She’d done this so many times, but the anticipation always made her nerves jangle, she fought against the urge to tense up, they had to appear unaware. This was the place she’d do it, the alley was dark and noise from busier streets barely filtered through. A slight crunch of gravel was all the warning she got, but it was enough. She and Taako snapped together like magnets, back to back, eyes cast over the alley. Nothing yet. Lup pressed her tongue against the back of her teeth, desperate to funnel the tension anywhere. She hated the waiting, craved the doing, or at least the satisfaction that came after. They stood stationary, no need to circle and search shadows. They were bait for their own trap, they had something it needed - it would come to them.
It wasn’t long before it showed itself. It burst forward and Lup surged to meet it. The punch glanced off its chin, barely connecting, but it was enough to piss it off. It hissed and snapped at her, stale breath from barely moving lungs ghosted across her face. She adjusted her stance and prepared to swing again, but it was smart enough to dart back before she could attempt a second blow.
“Magnus!” Called a loud voice as a huge shape dropped from a rusted fire escape, landing heavily. Shit, this didn’t fit the usual mould. It was rare for vampires to work together - more so for them to do anything quite so indelicate. Lup and Taako were used to quiet taunts, violent descriptions of exactly how painful the draining would be, attempts to find some psychological weaknesses to exploit, but not this. What the fuck did ‘Magnus’ mean?
In the silent second of the aftermath, the vampire rushed Taako. Lup should have anticipated it, they both should have. This was gonna come up in training. She winced in sympathy as Taako’s back hit the ground, relieved that his head stopped short of the wall. An incapacitated meal was easier to chug than one that was fighting back, and unconscious under a hungry vampire wasn’t the place to be. Taako just had to keep himself un-chomped long enough for her to stake it properly, and he could manage that. He had to manage that.
Lup was about to lunge forward when a blur smashed into the vampire, knocking it clear of Taako. Shit. Surely food wasn’t scarce enough that vampires needed to fight over it? If they were hungry they’d be less careful, but they’d also be prepared to take more risks… At least the infighting had given Taako long enough to get back on his feet.
“Yet another fight over Taako. At least they have taste.”
“Shut up, Goofus.” Lup didn’t bother looking at him, because if her eyes weren’t tricking her the fire escape acrobat had just rushed into the middle of a vampire fight at distinctly human speed.
“Dude, get out of there!” She started forward, Taako moving with her. What did this idiot think he was doing?
“Lup, run, you need to get out of here! Go!” The second vampire yelled in a familiar voice. Far too familiar a voice. Shit. Maybe Taako wouldn’t notice…
“Hold the fuck on, is that space nerd?” Taako said, slowing to a stop and staring intently at Lup.
“No?” Nailed it. Perfect denial.
“Lulu, is Barold a vampire? A vampire whom you conveniently haven’t mentioned to me? Have you been putting off ashing this dude so you could talk science? Endangering your dear brother’s life, so you can chat comets, blather about Barlow’s Lens, gossip about the galaxy? All while I stood innocently by, pre-seasoned in the kitchen…”
“No!” Lup repeated. Trying and failing to inject more indignation. Okay, so maybe she did enjoy his company and Barry had seemed harmless. Why was it a problem for him to come to the cafe and chat a few nights a week? Taako wasn’t in any danger and it was educational. A cultural exchange! They hadn’t met such a lucid vampire before, it’d be a waste to jump to immediate murderation. Although right now harmless didn’t seem entirely accurate as he punched the other vampire hard in the face and knocked him back.
“Oh, you already know Barry? I’m Magnus.” Said the tall guy, waving quickly before he grabbed the stunned vampire and trapped his arms behind his back.“Are you both okay? This stuff is pretty scary.”
Taako turned slowly to Lup, eyebrow raised. Lup waved anyway. Magnus seemed nice, there was no need to be rude.
Magnus held the struggling vampire firmly in place. Unable to get free, the vampire eyed Barry and snarled out “Barry, you absolute fuck, what are you doing with them?”
“Oh shut up, Archibald. Stop trying to eat nice people.” Barry didn’t seem to take any pleasure in it, but slammed the stake home with an unpleasant squelch.
Magnus didn’t let go as the vampire’s form started to crack, fissures opening across pallid skin showing the curdled burgundy light within. He’d done this before then, they knew to wait. The cracks widened and the vampire thrashed again, hands scrabbling towards its chest, but Magnus didn’t let up.
“Fuck you.” It hissed at Barry before the light sloshed free, dissipating as it hit the ground, leaving only charring chunks of flesh behind. Barry sighed and nudged them with his toe until they crumbled.
Magnus grinned toothily, pure joy radiated from him despite the streaks of grime on his face and the ragged cut on his arm - who came hunting in a sleeveless shirt? “Another win for Team Bagnus! High five!”
Barry looked like there was a strong possibility he might be sick. “Magnus, bud, not right now. These two have just found out vampires are real…”
Taako made a loud buzzer noise to cut Barry off.
“0 points for you, space nerd. Lup, you said this guy was smart, I thought that was why you liked him. Was it actually just for his ass? I’m shocked. You were so obsessed with his body you didn’t even realise he was dead. I can’t believe my sister’s so shallow.”
Lup was going to murder him. Maybe she could think Taako got bit during the attack, if he was possibly a vampire she couldn’t be blamed for staking him a bit... She settled for elbowing him instead. “Shut up, Goofus! I knew he was a vampire.”
“Didn’t deny staring at his ass though. Interesting.”
Lup exhaled hard and decided violence was definitely the only way to counter violence. It didn’t have to be true to hurt.
“It’s okay Taako, I’m sure Magnus already knows he’s very handsome, there’s no need to show off for him.” Taako’s strangled screech was enough to assure her that she had at least a few moments to try and talk to Barry.
“So… er, you, uhm, you knew about vampires?”
“We hunt vampires, Barry.” Lup doesn’t mean for it to sound so gentle, so questioning, but the thought of staking Barry hasn’t been in her head for weeks now. Fuck, was this a ‘he’s not like other boys’ situation? He’s not like other vampires, he’s different! He might be undead and have finger claws and I just watched him kill someone, but I think he’s special…
Magnus barreled into the introspection.
“Cool! Us too! Fuck ‘em.”
“Kemosabe, half of you are vampires.” Taako was still flushed around the tips of his ears, but had recovered the power of speech.
“You worked that out, then?” Barry looked at the floor and shuffled his feet.
“Worked it out? Barold, my guy, my dude… you only come in at night, you teach night classes, you don’t ever drink anything, you’re pale as fuck, and you sometimes forget to breathe.” Lup couldn’t help it, did he think he was doing a good job of hiding it? She’d clocked him within minutes.
“I was always this colour!” Barry said indignantly.
“Of course you were.” Taako said, rolling his eyes.
“Look, I’m only a little dead, it’s not a big deal. I haven’t eaten either of you…”  Taako snorted. “...or anyone else for that matter!” Barry continued valiantly.
“He really hasn’t.” Magnus added. “Scout’s honour!” He threw up the three fingered salute.
“How’s that possible?” Lup asked.
“Has anyone explained grounding to you?”
“If someone had would I be asking these questions, Barry?”
“Yeah… yeah, that makes sense. Sorry Lup. Okay. I have to get inside, but do you both want to come to the institute? We can give you breakfast and explain. Well, Magnus can, I’ll probably be out soon.”
“Just to clarify there, Barold, we…” Taako paused, glared hard at Lup, and continued. “...I, just found out you’re a vampire and you’d like us to come over for waffles and a chat, and definitely not getting eaten?”
“Yeah.” Magnus replied. “That’s basically it.”
“Alright, we’ll come.” Lup said. Fuck it. She’d been with Barry every day for over a month. If he wanted to eat her he’d have done it by now.
“We’ll fucking what, sorry?” Taako asked.
“Great! Glad you’re both coming! I think we’re gonna be friends.” Said Magnus, grabbing Taako round the shoulders and walking towards the mouth of the alley. Taako ducked under his arm and spun on his heel to march back towards Lup.
“We’re not too far from home.” Said Barry mildly. He nodded encouragingly and jogged ahead to walk at Magnus’ side, crossing paths with Taako as he stormed towards Lup.
“Have you lost your entire mind?” Taako hissed as he grabbed Lup’s shoulder to stop her from following. “You wanna take his space class, so now you don’t think vampires are dangerous anymore?” He grabbed her right arm and pulled her sleeve back to gesture at the small white ridges on her forearm. “Do I have to fucking remind you?”
Lup pulled her arm back quickly. That was a low blow. She knew Taako was worried about her, that was the only reason he’d bring this up, but it didn’t stop the sting of old wounds - literal and metaphorical.
“Look, have you ever met one of them that behaved like him?” She gestured at Barry’s retreating back. “He teaches a class, has a job, sits in the diner all night, hasn’t hurt anyone. Hasn’t even looked likely to. So forgive me if I want to find out more about what the fuck is going on. I thought you believed in evidence based practice? We’ve got some new evidence, so now we’d better do some research so we can amend our practice if needed. Or are you going to be a shit scientist and just keep doing what you’ve always done?”
Taako looked like he was going to fight, sucked in the breath to, then deflated. “Yeah. Fine. Academic rigour. Whatever. But if you get us killed I’ll haunt your ghost so hard.”

A deal is a deal
Part 4
Tumblr media
We sat down for our meal and looked around the menu for a few minutes. "Is ok if I get the burger and fries" Graces asks. "You can get anything you want sweetie, it's fine" I laughed. when the waiter came over I looked over to Grace and told her to go ahead and order. "Can I get the cheese burger and some fries please, and a lemonade to drink please." the waiter says yes and wrights it all down and turns to me but then Grace Blurts out "And a chocolate shake too... Please" I laughed, "would you like anything else hun?" Grace blushed and shook her head no. I order a burger and fries as well and the waiter left. "Don't be shy Gracie you can have what every you want to eat it's fine." I tell her and she perks up. We get back in to small talk and she tells me about the kids she nanny's for, There are 4 of them.
Tumblr media
Michelle is the youngest baby, She's just about a year old right now. Next was Catherine, or Kit Kat as they call her. She just turned 2 in February. The last 2 are twins Lisa and Sarah, They are 3 right now and are trying pull ups for potty training but it's going slow. There mother Miss Rae is a stay at home mother but does so work online for extra money. selling clothes and things she makes on Etsy and Amazon. Grace helps give her some time to rest and get work done with the kids around and helps keep the house clean too. The more she talked about everything the more interested I got. my passion for children is what drove me to study early childhood development and Psychology. I want to work with kids and watch them grow. someday I hope to have a family like that of my own.
We finished the meal we were having and we're about ready to go and then Grace looked up "I need to use the bathroom really fast and I need my clothes from the car so I can change, I can't work like this it wouldn't be appropriate." "Ok sweetie, well why don't you go to the bathroom and I'll go get your clothes and meet you back there?" I suggested. She was dancing in her sit by this point so she shook her head yes and ran to the bathroom in the back. I went up and paid the bill and then walked out to the car and grabbed the clothes she had in the diaper bag earlier. It was a pair of jeans a t shirt and a sports bra. I tucked them on a small back and then looked back again and grabbed the new paw patrol panties I had got her and loaded them in there too. I made my way to the bathroom and knocked on the single use door waiting for her to open the door. after a moment she opened the door a little and stuck her hand out, I gently pushed the door and little and she let it open and I walked in and closed the door behind me. "Girls share a bathroom all the time, No big deal" I tell her. I handed her the bag and told her to go ahead and change while I wash my hands from lunch. She set the bag down on a fold down changing table on the wall and switch her top and bra first, The she took of her skirt and put it in there and grabbed the jeans out. As she was about to step in to them I turned and looked at her. "No No. panties too" I called to her. She stopped and looked confused. "You should be wearing that tiny G string went your with the kids, you said it yourself you need to dress more appropriate for work. Those little sluty panties you have on are not it. Change them" I said with a parent tone. With out any hesitation she put the jeans down and took of her panties, she dug in the bag to find the other ones I put in there for a moment. I walked over to her and patted her naked bottom and looked in the bag. "I reached in and found them buried by her old clothes and pulled out the panties. she slid the cute little ones up her body and even posed for me with a laugh. Then I handed her the jeans and she put those on too. we finished up and walked back to the car.
Tumblr media
She gave me directions to the house and we drove over. It was a very nice neighborhooh, with very large houses. She should me which one was the house and we pulled up. when we pulled up we saw Miss Rae out front watering the plants and she wave at us. Grace got out and walked to the back of the car and I put the car in park and joined her to help get the bags sorted out. We each grabbed some bags for the house and I told Grace I would help her carry them up to the door. She didn't seem to.mind that so we walked up and said Hi to Miss Rae as we went in. She was just finishing watering the plants and followed us inside. "Hello Grace, who's your friend here" Mis Rae asking very politey. " Good evening Miss Rae, This is Tiffany. She is my... um". I see her unsure what to say so interject "I'm her sorority sister, We are called big sisters to the newer members of are sorority." Miss Rae gets a big smile "I love my sorority sister, we still talk all the time and My big sister was my bridesmaid at my wedding. That's so great, and I love your dress too. So lady like." she says. "would you care to stay for a drink or do you need to run? " Miss Rae invites me. Grace looked kind of nervous like I would tell on her or something so I reached over and gave her a hug and said "Grace why do you go check on the children and yes I would be happy to stay for a little while, Thank you." Grace took that chance and ran upstairs to go check on all the kids, Miss Rae pulled out a small pitcher and made up some margaritas in in for us and then we sat down out on the back patio which had a great very to enjoy our drinks.
We sat and talked about all kinds of things. She asked what I was studying and where I was from and I asked what she went to school for and what she did after. It was a very nice conversation. We had a great talk and she invited me to come by anytime I was free if I wanted to. She said she had extended the same offer to Grace to come by and use the amenities any she would like although she rarely took advantage of that, as she laughed. As we were coming to the end of our talk when Grace came over, "I'm sorry to interrupt lady's, Miss Rae I'm to get the kids dinner started in a few minutes. Is there anything you need from me tonight?" "Oh no sweetie, nothing special tonight. Kit Kat has a bit of an upset tummy so make sure she has something easy for dinner. Thank you Grace" Miss Rae tells her. I stand up and tell them both it's time for me to head out. I reach out to shake Miss Rae's hand but she opens her arms for a hug instead. I give her a hug and then give Grace one too. "Gracie, if you need a ride home later call me and I'll come get you ok? have a good night" I gave her a kiss on the cheek and a hug and head to the car. As I pull away I text Kat
Me: Hey I'm heading back to the house, do you want a ride home?
Kat: Ya that would be great. I'm off now but I was looking around at the store before I headed that way.
Me: No problem, I'll swing in and grab you.
I swing by the grocery store and pick Kat up. As she's loading her bags in she notices all the other bags. "Wow you got a lot here today?" she says. I smiled and said "it's not all mine, I took Grace on a bit of a shopping trip today so some of the cloths and groceries are hers" Kat reached over and pulled up one of the pull ups I had in the bag from earlier and laughed and said "I can see that". "God stop being mean" I laughed back. "You know I'm only kidding about it... she was cute though wasn't see" Kat added. I just smiled and closed the truck and got back in. Kat and I headed home and unloaded everything. I put all the main groceries away in the kitchen and some snack in my room. Then I took the clothes and snacks I got for Grace and took them to her room. I hung up and put away the clothes I got her and put the snacks she got with the others she already had. Then I took the bag of pull ups I had set aside. I took a few out of the bag and tucked the bag in her closet. I'll just let her know there are extras for her to refill the bag with if she needs to when she's not at Miss Rae's house. I took the extras I pulled out back to my room and tucked them away, Just Incase.
Tumblr media
once I was done with that I went to Kats room to talk to her. "So when we were out today I talked to Gracie more. She reminded me that her big sister from pleag last year was Lori, and now that Lori is gone she doesn't have one." Kat stopped and looked at me "Ok, that happens all the time. your only required to have a big sister your first year?" she says. "Ya I know it does, but I also lost my little sister when Jessica dropped out last semester.." I continued. "Oh God... you wanna adopt her don't you? Kat smirked. "Shut up" I said. "She needs some support and it would work well. I mean I could... No WE could help make a difference for her?" I added. "God you do and you are dragging me in to? You know you can't save everyone, right? " she laughed. I gave her a knowing look but when she looked back in my eye she knew... "Ok, Ok. I'll support it. we have to get Flora to be ok with it too so we need to meet with her." Kat says in a more serious tone. "Well that's not all" I added. "I'm going to share a room with her." Kat dropped her head in to her hands, from beneath her hands I heard her say "You no big sister and little sister don't have to, or even normally share rooms" "Ya I know but she wants to and we'll so do I." I say with confidence. "I'll get Flora and the other to be ok with it." Kat shacks her head at me and finished the talk by says "Fine, you know I'm with you for anything, now be with me. I'm hungry let's go to the kitchen" we both head down stairs. On the way down stairs I sent a text to Flora asking if I can meet with her tomorrow. She replied quickly and said Yes we can and that she wanted to talk with me about a few things too.

If you ever wanted to see the free market work in real time you should pay attention to what's going on in MMA right now.
Short(ish) version: The UFC is the biggest MMA company in the world and it's where every fighter dreams of ending up. For years, it was the only real game in town, especially after it bought PRIDE and Strikeforce, its two biggest competitors (at one time PRIDE was the biggest MMA promotion in the world until Yakuza scandals led to it getting purchased in 2008 by the UFC). The thing about the UFC though, is that most fighters are paid like shit. This isn't the NFL or the NBA where everyone who gets into the league makes millions. Most people barely make enough to cover their training camps unless they get a win bonus or a performance bonus. Even some champions and people who have been in the top 5 rankings and have huge name value aren't getting paid nearly what they're worth. That's because they get roped into signing contracts for multiple fights when they're not as big or high ranked for low money, but that initial number never changes until their contract comes up. And if you don't take the new deal the UFC offers you, they'll often sit on your contract for years while never booking you for a fight, or offering you fights that you'll never accept or that are designed to punish you and make you look terrible and tank your name value (for that last, look at the Nate Diaz vs Khamzat Chimaev debacle).
So what happens when a fighter is being paid far below what he's worth and can't get out of his contract? Usually, aside from a few big names that manage to escape, or older guys the UFC thinks it can't make money on anymore, they'll eventually resign with the UFC. Because the UFC has sold itself as being the only game in town and most people just want to get paid and support their families even if they're only getting half of what they're really worth.
But over the last few years, fighters are starting to figure out that isn't true.
Bellator, the second biggest MMA promotion in the west, has made some very highly publicized signings of big name talent, including Cris Cyborg (arguably the greatest female MMA fighter ever), and they've retained some great young homegrown talent who, 5 years ago, would have jumped at the chance to show up on the prelims of a Fight Night in the UFC. Part of the success Bellator has been having is because of their yearly tournaments, where the winner not only wins the championship, but also a million dollars. The PFL has shockingly been successful, offering up a unique season format where fighters fight in a year long season, playoffs, finals system for the chance to win a million dollars at the end of the year. They're also starting up a superfight division to showcase special talent who, for whatever reason, don't want to do the season format. In Asia, One Championship is making inroads into the western market as well and signing some big names both in Asia and in the west. They also offer more variety in their fights, putting on Muay Thai, kickboxing, grappling, and other forms of combat sports alongside MMA. And in Japan, Rizin is starting to finally get some notice with its unprecedented crossover events with Bellator. All of these promotions have western broadcast deals. Bellator with Showtime, PFL with ESPN, One with Amazon Prime, and Rizin with Fite TV. They all have the money and the backing to make a run at the UFC's throne, and they're all willing to pay that money to the fighters to do it.
(There's also Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship which has been massively successful and a whole new option for MMA fighters to make money, but I want to focus specifically on MMA right now and not bare knuckle boxing)
And fighters are starting to realize this. Big names are going to these promotions, making money, and telling everybody about it. They're getting opportunities that UFC fighters never get, like fighting fighters from rival promotions, or taking fights outside of MMA, or sponsorship deals (oh yeah the UFC stopped allowing their fighters to be sponsored by anyone other than the one (1) sponsor the UFC signs a deal with years ago). And in the years to come, you're only going to see more top name fighters in their prime either jumping ship or skipping the UFC all together.
(Keep an eye on where Francis Ngannou ends up)
But my point here is this:
This is how the free market works. A lot of fighters are talking about a fighters union to solve their UFC problems, but that would only be a huge step backwards for fighters who want to take control of their careers. By being smart and using your skills and your name as a bargaining chip, by knowing that there are better options than just staying with the UFC until they decide they're done with you, you can see real success in your career without signing your soul over to the UFC or a union. It is literally happening all around you right now. Fighters are getting paid more, getting paid more younger, and getting opportunities that the UFC will never offer them. Every single major MMA organization in the world is trying to expand at the same time. There are opportunities everywhere. You only need to look and be willing to bet on yourself instead of seeing that UFC logo at the top of your contract to fight for pennies and being blinded by dreams of being the next Conor MacGregor.
The free market works. The free market is the only way to achieve true success as an individual and not as a cog in someone elses machine. And best of all, the free market doesn't discriminate. It's there for you to use, no matter who you are. So use it.

PERSONAL FICTIONAL STORY written in collaboration with my friend @tidodore2
- THE LANDLORD'S FEET -
PART BY @submissivegayfrenchboy
Sam hadn't paid his rent. He hoped he wouldn't have to because he was short on money, but when he got back to his apartment, he saw a man sitting on his couch.
SAM: "How did you get in here? Get out!"
GREGORY: "You shouldn't talk to the landlord of your apartment like that..."
SAM: "Wait, I recognize you.... You're... Gregory?!"
GREGORY: "Yeah, the skinny binoculars from your old high school became the landlord of your apartment! And here is the pretty sporty jerk having to lick the feet of the ugly nerd to be excused for the late payment of his rent! Stick your tongue out, hot jock !"
Tumblr media
PART BY @tidodore2
SAM: "Listen man, I'm really sorry for what I put you through in middle school! I never should have spit on you in front of the whole class, but you're cheating! I don't deserve to find yourself on the street, I'll pay you next month, I promise! Come on man, don't make me lick your feet!"
PART BY @submissivegayfrenchboy
GREGORY: "Okay no big deal, I would just have to file a complaint with the police station for non-payment of rent. I'm sure that the real estate agencies are looking to put apartments up for rent, I would just have to say that mine is free. That's the advantage of being a stupid nerd, as you said, it's that we know the procedures. So you have a choice: the street, or my feet!"
PART BY @tidodore2
SAM: "No no, man, it doesn't have to come to that!"
Sam knelt in front of Gregory and quickly licked one of his feet.
GREGORY: "Are you kidding me? Do you think a tiny lick will convince me not to put you out on the street!!??? Ask me for forgiveness and start licking my feet again until I order you to stop!!!"
PART BY @submissivegayfrenchboy
Had Sam ever believed in Karma? In any case, he would never have thought that Gregory could have such a dazzling revenge on life. The nerd of the class whom everyone laughed at for being ugly, the weakling who was hit in sports to laugh or impress the girls, the jester who was thrown food at in the cafeteria and who was punished by having to clean up what we had thrown at him, the loser who was forced to carry heavy schoolbags and do homework, the one whose head was buried in sweaty shoes after sport....
Who would have thought that Gregory would be rich enough to have two apartments, one of which he would rent to his former main bully? And yet, Sam found himself at his feet, and stuck out his tongue to approach those of Gregory, still ugly but much more intimidating than Sam had been.
Eventually, Gregory preferred to keep Sam as a footlicker to get his revenge, so he lowered the price of Sam's rent, but Sam had to come and lick Gregory's feet every day.

- LES PIEDS DU PROPRIÉTAIRE -
PART BY @submissivegayfrenchboy
PART BY @submissivegayfrenchboy

Brain Dump 11.11.22
I forgot today was a bank holiday, some maybe tomorrow or Monday an electronic deposit may occur
If not, it will be a month since I’ve gotten paid, and outstanding invoices will be in the five figures
My sister called my wife yesterday, she’s filling out medical paperwork with my Dad
Turns out he is giving her medical power of authority, I’m second, my wife third
Note that my BIL, who also lives with him is not involved
My BIL has his own health issues, heart condition, untreated diabetes for at least 15 years, leg wounds - he’s basically checked out…but can still go to the casino and play poker for 36 hours straight
My sister is prepared for her husband to die, and not her father
It looks like our father will be starting dialysis on his kidneys soon, he may not be a candidate for at home dialysis
He has also refused to be put on a donor list, because he doesn’t want to ask either of his children for a kidney transplant
My sister is in her early 50’s, our mother, and our maternal grandmother both died in their early 60’s
So if you play the odds she has about 10 years, also she has a poor diet, overweight, work-a-holic…hmm runs in the family…no stress reliever
At least she’s never showed any signs of carrying the alcoholic gene
It dawned on me today that I could be the only person left in my immediate family before I turn 60, most likely parent less before age 55
It also dawned on me today that I really need to up my at home yoga routine, because I’m insanely stiff and inflexible
My brain only feels slightly less heavy since dumping this, I probably need to restart my at home meditation routine as well
Nice to know that my own family doesn’t call me about our own family business, but they call my wife
I really need to link my business and personal accounts so money transfer can happen effortlessly
I really wanted to get outside with my camera today, but right now it’s 21°F outside, so ummm nope
I’m about to engage and embark on a couple of projects that will be the largest things I’ve been involved with in my professional career
One will be about a $25M hotel renovation, the other will be a $175M (possibly more) brand new hotel tower…welcome to the Big Leagues
Not to mention the 5 or 6 smaller projects at or around $10M each that I’m also in control of
Sounds like I need to resurrect my plan to find a local professional therapist that deals with the high stress professions and burnout
If I could only find the time
Maybe I should just to back to bed, a vacation would be nice
Reminds me, I still need to update my expired passport
I also need to get new tires before winter really sets in
I’m just guessing that pretty soon my IPhone 11Pro Max is going to take a shit, and I’ll need a new phone
But hey, at least I’ve got travel pants and sport shirts
Did I mention that I’m starting to wear down the soles of my boots
At any given time, these are just a few of the things that are constantly running through my brain. Maybe Tumblr is my professional therapist? Maybe so are the bartenders, servers, and lounge employees I’m starting to befriend by name since I’ve seen them so much lately.
I can feel it kicking into gear, my life is about to get crazy stupid busy again.

strange things to be inspired by a dream: hypothetical apology by a tv personality for using hurtful language on-air
Hey, guys. I want to apologize for the language I used on air last night: to those it's most hurtful to especially, but to every viewer who heard my comments and everyone who's not a viewer of our show who's gonna have been exposed to this due to the coverage too. And you know who that goes double to, who that goes triple to? The people who aren't bothered, aren't offended; the people who think this kind of stuff is fine. It's not—not today, not ever. Having people like me who have a platform talk like it is, even in passing, sets us back. It makes people, wonderful people, want to hide who they are—I'm not okay with contributing to that. And the reason I say this goes triple for the people who think they don't care is that you almost certainly know many of those wonderful people, whoever you are, whether you're aware of it or not. Whoever you are, the fact that you live in a society with this kind of ugly thinking, where this kind of ugly thinking is sometimes treated like it's not a big deal or that it's inevitable? That's hurting you. That's hurting you directly. We should never accept halfhearted apologies for this shit because the consequences are real. People shouldn't have to grow up in a world where they feel like who they are affects how much they're loved—by their friends, their family, their god if they believe in one... or by some guy on TV. Or by their sports heroes, the people they watch up here every night. I know sometimes we in the sports world get a pass on this sort of—look, it feels and is ridiculous to use a blanket term like "cultural issue," but I have to—but we get a pass on this kind of thing because it's "just sports," because sports doesn't really matter, because we're paid to compete and talk about competing, not to be politicians. Whatever. That's bullshit, okay? You shouldn't accept that, and I shouldn't accept that, and I'm upset with myself for contributing to it, for all the takes I'm already seeing defending my comments along those lines. Sport gives us a platform. Sport lets us represent our fans, our cities, our countries. It's our job to do everything we can—within the rules—to win on the field. But it's also our duty to do everything we can as members of this community, as friends to those we know and don't know, to fight for the people who are unfairly victims of this hate that should have died a long damn time ago. Don't accept otherwise, not because we're 'just' sports. Hold us accountable. Please. I wanna say thank you to everyone who's made their voice heard the right way, here, whether it's about me personally or not.
And I want to apologize to another group of people: my old teammates, everybody I shared a locker room with. I'm sorry my comments make it sound like we had a culture of hate back in those days. And I'm sorry to those of you who were hurt by some of the language we did use in the locker room. I'm pissed, honestly, at myself, you know? Because there was always this voice in my head that was like, I've gotta stop this, I've gotta stop this, and the excuse was, you know, I'll stop once I leave the league. And obviously I didn't quite succeed at that—but more importantly, that's not enough. That's not fair to the people I was with in the moment. If you find yourself in that locker room or wherever it is that those things get said behind closed doors, and you find yourself thinking, you know, now's not the time to speak up, to be better: nah man, just do it. Be brave. That's the bravest thing you can do. Trust me: it sucks way more to be thinking back on stuff you let slide years later, okay? Don't do that to yourself. Don't do it to your friends, to your loved ones, to the strangers who overhear you. It's not okay. Don't listen to anybody—anybody—who makes you feel like it is.
(Oh, and I'm donating a bunch of money. Please consider joining me.)

What I suspect is going wrong with Pac negotiations and what 2 additional schools could get a deal done.
I’ve written several articles suggesting teams that the PAC should have added over the years. I’ve written articles about how they could have secured their ultimate target, The University of Texas, in the past.  I’ve written articles more recently about the need to add Texas Christian, Texas Tech, and others before the PAC leadership let that window close as well.
Those were easy expansion plans.  Simple, straightforward paths to the goal.  Texas Tech alone would have been anywhere from the PAC’s best to fourth strongest media asset upon entering the league.  That might sound crazy to say, but the gap between Oregon, Washington, Cal and Texas Tech is not that large.
Those paths are gone now and the PAC is still at risk for not having expanded.
It is frustrating writing recommendations for collectives made of university leaders who really are far more interested in running their own universities and who frankly barely understand how paying attention to minutia of college sports can be wildly profitable.
It has taken me 3 weeks to write this thing, but we are going to try again.  Plan X we will call it.
Plan x
Tumblr media
What is going wrong with PAC 12 negotiations.
Obviously, I am not personally involved in Pac 12 negotiations, but like a lot of folks, I have evaluated, sold, and marketed stuff for most of my life.
With that perspective, reading the reports and listening to discussion on the negotiations, I can reach some conclusions. They are just my conclusions.
The PAC leadership appears to have misjudged...well.. just about everything in this negotiation.  They thought by being the only power conference to approach the streaming companies that they would be given a fair --- if not generous ---offer on their content.
After all, if they put the PAC games on a streaming platform, viewership WILL decline.  Old people will not be able to figure it out.  The PAC thought the streaming companies would acknowledge that sacrifice.
Nope.
They thought ESPN and the streaming companies would make a fine offer to the Pac12 (minus 2) for their fine content and then the Pac could just roll in San Diego State after the fact and get a slight bump to pay the Aztecs' their equal share.
(This is probably something the individual school presidents insisted on so they could potentially walk away from further expansion if they were paid well enough.)
Nope.
Then they thought, "maybe if we add another school to bring access to the #5 designated media market in the country! " But they missed their opportunity with TCU and publicly targeted Southern Methodist University - a university with a fanbase that would likely evaluate to being 1/2 to 1/4 the size of TCU’s today.  SMU  really doesn’t appear to have any claim to being a Power 5 conference level candidate today.
SMU hasn’t run away with their conference in football consistently and basketball has collapsed back into mediocrity since Larry Brown left.
They don’t pull big crowds to either revenue sports.  They are pretty forgettable at the sub-power conference level.
But the Pac thought, “With these guys in, negotiations will get it done now...!"
Nope.
It seems that there are just not enough entities involved in the negotiations for every key potential Network partner --- Amazon, Apple, and ESPN --- to feel that they have to bring more than their lowest offer to the table.
To me that immediately tells me that the PAC’s potential partners are in essence not negotiating in good faith.
To be clear, they view The PAC as an asset to be used, not a partner.
They would rather keep the PAC-12 - 2 at a very broken 10 members ....because it is cheap that way.
Simply put, they would rather Pay 10 annoyed schools stuck in a dysfunctional bleeding out conference 22 million per year than pay 14 moderately content schools (in a conference that would make a ton more sense in 4 years) 25 million per team per year.
They are not looking at this as an investment in a future partner. They are looking at this as a short-term shortcut to what they want.
If they have had any thoughts about the next Media deal, which they probably have not, the idea is probably that they'll just sign whoever's available.
The Pac-12 would certainly be a lot stronger with 14+ members in key locations. It would make the PAC-14 far more able to compete on the field and in terms of media deals, but it boils down to your network partners would have to pay more money for 4 more teams.
It is pretty clear that with the economy not in recession per se, but slowed, the partners are keeping a tight grip of their cash.
Whether it's actual bad faith where they're trying to wipe their ass with the pac-12 - 2 or they're just not thinking about how important this is for their future partner doesn't really matter.
The PAC likely isn't going to get a deal that their members want and it's going to very much cloud expansion and probably limit, if not totally stop it.
The PAC has to change this reality. Immediately.
So what's my two cents?
Take a break from negotiations.
Advise your negotiators that you're going to take a couple of weeks off and re-consult with your conference members.
Mothball negotiations for two weeks.
Record their current positions on what they would offer and for what content. Try and break it down by game if they'll give you that kind of breakdown. They might not. That's fine.
Then go back and ram through expansion. Just tell everyone that your membership insisted on it and that you're going to go back to negotiations in a couple of weeks.
Who should be in?
San Diego State is a given. (I would STRONGLY advise pushing to rebrand the University as THE California State University implying it is the CAL State Flagship University as that would make the San Diego university seem like the natural rival of the University of California --- North vs. South; A duel of flagships University vs. State University--- much better for in state and out of conference ratings.)
SMU is a school that you pretty much promised will be in, and you can live with that because SMU will be good in at least football in a few years (and if you tell them have to be good in basketball too, they might spend the money to dig up another Larry Brown. SMU boosters will spend money chasing wins.)
In a recent article I explained how optimal PAC expansion would also include Rice and Tulane ... Two schools that just like SMU are very much not deserving of PAC membership today, but solve some of the biggest problems that gut the PAC -- No central timezone games, few large markets, no recruiting, no academically appropriate expansion candidates.
Tulane could easily become one of the stronger schools in the inland division as joining the PAC would unquestionably elevate them to being the consistent #2 brand in Louisiana/Southern Mississippi area, ahead of schools like Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, ULM, Southern Miss, UAB, and others.  That would push a lot more football talent from the region onto the Tulane roster.
Rice is in a football and basketball talent hotbed.  The right hire could have them being an annual bowl team in football, and it isn’t hard to imagine Rice evolving into a poor man’s Duke in basketball...Maybe a Wake Forrest-level program.
But all three central schools are not strong power conference candidates today.
Now.... if The  PAC just adds those four schools and then comes back to their negotiations, their network partners will be pissed.
San Diego State is defensible as a developed asset in both revenue sports in a top 35 Designated Media Market, but the other three schools would amount to the Pac asking their Network partners to pay $22 million x 3, $66M per year, for content that today is only collectively maybe worth $15 million annually.
 It will piss them off.
2 more for 16
So I'm going to counter intuitively say you should add two MORE schools from the ranks of the unwashed to specifically address this problem. And the two schools I would suggest would be the University of Hawaii and the University of New Mexico.
Why those two schools?  First, because both would excel in the PAC and help the conference in the all-important revenue sports.
Both schools are state flagships that do a lot of research, which is important to the academic spine of the PAC.
If you make it a condition that they tighten up their admission standards to limit the amount of borderline students that they admit, the academic reputations of both schools as interpreted by things like the US news reports would rise dramatically overnight.
Will it be to PAC standards?  No, not right away, but by following the academic development strategy of the Arizona schools and actively targeting top academic students in richer states like Texas and California, UNM can further improve their national reputation.  UH can do the same in Asia and the Pacific.
In very real terms, both schools are exactly where the University of Arizona was in the late sixties. Both schools have very similar potentials, much of which athletically would be immediately met with the greater revenue that would come with PAC membership.
I would tell the Hawaii state legislature that “if you build UH a PAC level 50,000 seat stadium with good sightlines and chaired seating, UH is in.”   They would comply. They have already committed to building a 35,000 seat replacement for Aloha stadium.
With that asset, I think Hawaii would emerge as a football power in short order because with Hawaii in the PAC, Hawaiians and Samoans would largely rather go to the University of Hawaii than any of the PAC schools.
Now that's a pretty brutal thing for Utah and Oregon, your current Blue Chip schools, as well as BYU,  USC, and UCLA because that's where the talent is going to come from, but Utah and Oregon can pull replacement talent from SoCal and the central time zone and ...well...screw BYU, USC, and UCLA.
Hawaiians are liberal like most of the other PAC schools and adore the PAC so the cultural fit could not be better.
I think Hawaii could become a consistent nine win PAC football team drawing 45,000 to 50,000 per game and challenging Washington, Oregon, and occasionally Stanford for the Pacific North Division title. And the Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahines are, like the Aztecs, unique and potentially very sellable media brands.
New Mexico would likely do better overall in the PAC in football, especially out of conference.  It is not a stretch to imagine UNM with PAC recruiting dominating their old rivals NMSU and UTEP as well as sensible newly valued opponents like UTSA, UNT, and Texas State in OOC play and then capturing 3 in conference wins to be bowl eligible on a fairly regular basis.
But the story at UNM would be basketball. New Mexico would likely become the second or third best basketball program in the conference with a sudden influx of PAC driven TV money.
When you are talking about UNM basketball, you are talking about their arena, “The Pit”.
It would immediately become the best place to watch a basketball game in the PAC with it’s large crowds and atmosphere. The Pit has averaged over 15,000 per game since it opened in 1966.
And those numbers would be even higher if the Pit capacity wasn’t reduced a few years back for more premium booths.
It is a basketball mecca.  There is nothing like that in today’s PAC.
The Lobos don’t have national titles like Kansas because their athletic department has always operated on a shoestring budget, but they are consistent NCAA tournament teams mostly because they have such an overwhelming homecourt advantage, winning 80% of their games at the Pit. They have made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and 19 NIT appearances.
To do that with zero ability to retain successful coaches, shows the value of the UNM fans and arena to the win and loss totals.
And there is every reason to assume they will only be better in the PAC with more money to pay their head coach and assistants and better recruiting.
In other words, like SDSU, they bring some desperately needed credibility in basketball circles.
But that's not why those two schools are important.
It’s the media opportunities they potentially create and the media partners they could potentially bring to the negotiation table.
Hawaii is the key asset to unlocking Asia's markets. This is wildly important in PAC University terms. This is a lot like when the Big Ten added Maryland and Rutgers. Neither one of those schools were schools to write home about athletically, but those two states were the states that produced a large chunk of Big Ten out of state students.
The PAC gets a lot of students out of Asia these days. Capturing U of H Athletics gives the pac a unique asset to pushing their media into Asia. It gives them the ability to sell more merchandise in Asia, Australia and New Zealand and hopefully to steer their better students to PAC universities.
UH is also a media asset in that it has games in that midnight kick off window that the ESPN really likes.
Adding UNM, along with schools in Dallas and Houston, gives the PAC total control over the Hispanic Southwest opening the door to broadcasting over Univision or Telemundo. Which leads to my next point.
Invite more Media partners to the negotiation and change up how your media is processed.
The PAC needs to actively pursue relationships with more linear networks.
Fox not having an interest in any PAC content appears to have killed the PAC negotiation plan.  There is simply a glut of content for the needs of the PAC’s suitors. That works against today’s PAC12-2 and certainly works against desperately needed expansion.
The PAC has a perfect opportunity to manage this in the form of Arizona's president. He publicly stated that the PAC needs to have over 50% of their content on linear TV.  The Big 12 will have 70% of their over linear TV.
Use that with your network partners.
Explain to them that Arizona is the most likely school to leave and that in the interest of peace and conference stability, that the member schools agreed upon a larger expansion so that more games could be sold to linear TV without gouging the quality historic PAC content that Amazon and Apple are bidding on.
The plain fact of the matter is that ESPN is only so interested in PAC content as it stands today. They already have access to Hawaii home games if they want at a wildly discounted rate as long as the PAC does not expand and take in UH.
Now to my way of thinking, that should make UH a frontrunner in PAC expansion because you know that that adding them pushes ESPN to the table to deal with you.
In expansion it is never your past position on a school, it is what you need at this exact moment.  The PAC needs someone to push at least one of their potential media partners to be more than blase’ about acquiring the PAC rights.
ESPN is rumored to have offered the PAC 12-2 $31M per school at one point in this negotiation presumably for all their content.  Could adding Hawaii get ESPN back into that headspace to make a larger bid for more content?  Could it get ESPN to talk about earlier timeslots on their preferred channels?
If ESPN loses Hawaii to the PAC and then the PAC somehow doesn't sign a deal with ESPN because ESPN is being cheap, ESPN loses most of their viewership in their two late night windows as they have nothing that interests the Western 2/3s of the country... 1/4 of the US's population.
Adding UH pushes ESPN to the table and that's important.
Without Fox and with ESPN barely interested in the PAC, the PAC pinned all of its hopes on Amazon and Apple buying all of the rest of the content at a premium. That clearly has not been the case.
Likewise adding New Mexico makes the expanded PAC content a perfect product for Hispanic language TV.  The Lobos and Aztecs brands are perfect for cultivating Hispanic viewers.  Having UNM, SDSU, Arizona, ASU. Utah, Colorado, SMU and Rice gives a lot of content that is sellable on an Hispanic Network.  Maybe a football game or two a week live with it also streaming in English on Amazon or Apple.
Basketball with it’s cheap production costs would seem a perfect sport for this strategy along with other historic non-revenue sports.  Maybe you keep the price low to get them to do football and basketball, but they get PAC soccer for free and baseball cheap.  Give them sports Hispanic men love.
So what you're going to do is you're going to open it up to more linear providers. You're going to tell Apple and Amazon that you absolutely want to sell them content, but that maybe the lower portion of your tier 1 content really wasn't appealing to them financially enough for your members’ tastes and the other sports were not needle movers for them, so you’ve brought in more partners to absorb those low interest games.
Sure Amazon wants Washington vs. Oregon or even Oregon vs Oregon State, but were they really excited about Oregon State vs. Colorado? (At least prior to Deion Sanders...) And you know Rice at Washington State isn’t really appealing to them.  And do they have any interest in sports like soccer or baseball or even most basketball games?
You want to pull in the CW, ION, Telemundo or Univision, and Netflix.
Now I think ESPN will take the change as it occurs. They are used to expansion. I think Apple might be very willing to listen, but Amazon is going to be pissed.
There is a piece there that I see that I think PAC fans need to understand. There is a general feeling among many that the reason that the Big Ten did not expand more is because the member schools did not trust their previous commissioner.
The Big Ten does not have a commissioner right now. (Update:  That’s not right.  The Big Ten Hired Tony Petiti on April 12th while I was working on these articles.)
Amazon very much may be looking at the landscape and saying that they're not really committed to the PAC.
There is a very real scenario where Amazon strings out negotiations until the Big Ten puts a new commissioner in place and then Amazon goes to the Big Ten and says bring in Washington and Oregon and will pay you x amount of money that we were talking about paying the PAC.
In a very real sense Amazon buying PAC content may be Amazon's backup plan.
The only reason they may be pursuing it right now is because right now the Big Ten basement dwellers are rumored to prefer having their content on linear TV than on streaming services.
But Amazon’s leadership may view it as the Big Ten as only temporarily closed to Oregon and Washington.
Getting more providers involved specifically puts pressure on Amazon to get a deal done or risk whiffing on everything. It forces them to get on the train with everyone else.
Realignment reporter Dennis Dodd spoke with Media Consultant John Williams about other options available to the PAC in a great article.  Williams recommended the PAC approach the CW and ION about putting games on their networks. That recommendation has spurred the PAC to talk with the CW.
If the CW wants to have Oregon as their featured game of the week every week, Amazon is no longer driving the car for tier one rights.
That is very, very good. You don't want to shut the door on Amazon, but it has always hit me as a bad idea to have content exclusively on Amazon. With a number providers involved you can get the providers working together and potentially limit the costs for companies like Amazon and Apple on the front end.
The idea of buying a ton of PAC content for a streaming provider is that you get all PAC fans to buy into streaming broadcasts. But the streaming providers need to pay a premium if they want that exclusivity and it appears they just aren’t willing to pay for that ownership position yet.
What makes a lot of sense to me is having all of your games accessible via Amazon and Apple. Put them on linear TV, but also let people stream the games on Amazon and Apple or watch them 2 days later later from their home on Netflix.
That gives apple and Amazon the chance to stream the games live for West Coast viewers who are out away from their TVs mountain climbing or surfing or whatever.
It gives Amazon and Apple a second chance with an exclusive window to stream the game media file over the next two days. At that point Amazon and Apple should be ready to go on to their next content.
So the game is then transmitted to the servers at Netflix.
The traditional cable model has been that a provider buys the game and that they own the content and that game generally will never see the light of day after it's broadcast.
This is the advantage to going second in a negotiation. There is very little value in a game for ESPN after it's been played. Oh sure a great game might be end up on ESPN classic and fill a few hours of content. But an average game between two average teams? Not so much.
Use the streaming providers and Netflix to capture additional value.  Recast the traditional media sale model.
Forbes’s Jim Williams wrote a strategy piece like this one that was interesting, but to my view a little to sold on the power of Amazon.  But one piece I loved was the Idea of Amazon taking over the Pac Network production capacities. What if the streaming partners were more intertwined with the linear partners?
The single broadcast model is value that is lost for everyone. Give Apple and Amazon a chance to mine that. Then put that game on Netflix 2 days after the game and suddenly you got something that is relatively cheap for Netflix to acquire and Netflix pays based on viewership. Questions of visibility are immediately answered.
The PAC as the first college football provider on Netflix can reach some deals on exclusivity. Let's say the PAC deal with Netflix is super favorable financially to Netflix but the trade-off is that they can only put let's say 10 games each from every other conference on Netflix, where the PAC might have every game or at least every game that ESPN didn't buy.
College football fans in other regions will queue up a game on Tuesday that they slept through on Saturday.
Plus that would be a wonderful lever to destroy solidarity in a conference like the SEC when everyone realizes what a great idea it is to have your game stored on Netflix. You can see UT wanting every one of their games on Netflix, and Alabama and LSU absolutely pitching a fit over it.
Let's talk about linear TV.
Telemundo or Univision
Telemundo would probably be super excited about putting a game of the week on every Saturday featuring a SW School. To my thinking you give them something like this:
Tumblr media
That is awesome because UNM is not a desirable football media product to ESPN at this point. Additionally given New Mexico’s demographics --- almost half of the state is Hispanic and almost 1/3 speak Spanish --- they make the most sense to do the heavy lifting in PAC’s Hispanic sports outreach to new fans.
If you simulcast that stuff with Apple and Amazon English broadcasts, English speaking fans of UNM and the other schools in that southwestern footprint can see the game live and hear it in English even if they're watching the Telemundo broadcast... which is going to make Telemundo happy because their commercials are going to appear on the TV.
The Cal State games vs. the Arizona schools would probably need a little extra exposure. It might make sense in terms of keeping the Arizona schools happy to also show that game on the CW or another network in English.  Both schools are very reliant on California recruiting so having the game dual broadcast on English and Spanish networks in LA and Arizona and the rest of the southwest would probably please them.
There are tons of Spanish speakers in that Southwest corridor who are going to be very happy watching college football in Spanish on Telemundo. In addition you're going to hit Spanish speakers all over the US which will make your brands much more popular nationally. The money is not so much of an issue. In terms of exposure you can't beat this.
ESPN
If you add Hawaii ESPN is going to come back to the table and offer you more money.
ESPN in the last deal offered a fair amount of 7:30 Pacific starts. Those game were largely games where 76% of the country fell asleep by halftime.
If the PAC adds Hawaii, ESPN is immediately worried about their midnight eastern slot.  Given that ESPN is low balling the PAC, it is entirely possible that ESPN could get sniped and miss all power conference content in the pacific and mountain timezones as well as their Hawaii home games in the midnight window.
I’d champion offering ESPN a power 5 game every week in the midnight eastern slot.
Tumblr media
The tradeoff is that I want a true PAC doubleheader on ESPN, meaning the slot for my other game is not starting at 7:30 Pacific, it is 5 PM Pacific/6 Mountain/7 Central.  It is the slot the PAC had through FOX.
Starting a single game late every year if you're in the Pacific time zone should be a tolerable deal, especially if it gets your better games actually seen by 100% of the country on ESPN.
This will work for ESPN.  ESPN already knows from experience that they're going to get good enough ratings from the Hawaii games in the midnight time zone slot.
Making UH a power 5 team just makes those games more appealing.  Making most of the games in conference games with a Pac fanbase tuning in, plus PAC fans who are ok with a later game, could quadruple ESPN’s viewership in that window.
The CW
The CW would love to have sports on it. Older viewers like sports. The CW had been geared towards the young, but now would like to have viewers with some money.  Football is great for that.  The CW is in 100% of all media markets.
The CW likely doesn’t have much money, but that is OK in a market where every provider with money is offering pennies on the dollar.  The PAC might be the only power conference where a relationship makes sense.
The CW can get a PAC doubleheader on at 1 PM Pacific/4 PM eastern and 5PM Pacific/8 PM eastern.
Or if that later game is a problem with ESPN, maybe just have a Saturday 1 PM Pacific game and maybe put a game on Sunday.
You've got basically a bunch of content (SMU, Rice, Tulane, Oregon State, Washington State) that ESPN doesn't believe in and isn't necessarily as easy to sell for a channel like Telemundo.
But what is interesting about that content is that with expansion it's going to be the games between schools that don't have any historical rivalries. Oregon versus SMU. Rice versus CAL. What do those games have in common? They are games that appeal to fan bases in two different areas of the country.
What if you took those games that were played in the Mountain or Central time zones and played one of them a week on Sunday with a kickoff at 9:00 AM Mountain or (Ideally) 10:00 AM Central (aka 11 am Eastern)?
This game would be the only live football game on TV from 11:00 Eastern to 1:00 p.m. Eastern. So in other words this football game would be competing against NFL pregame shows in every market.
People are going to tune in for that in higher numbers than you think.
You will get those PAC audiences and a fair amount of other PAC fans.
You will get college football junkies who don't have to watch their own conference in that window so they can enjoy someone else playing.
You're going to get NFL fans who would rather watch a live game then watch a pregame show.
And a surprisingly high number of those people after watching the first 2/3 of the game will prefer to finish off the game before switching over to the NFL in the second quarter.
I know the most radical of NFL fans do not accept this, but NFL fans are fair-weather fans. I will watch my Dallas Cowboys, but I would rather watch random college football game then the Eagles or the Redskins play a game. And that is the inherent vulnerability of the NFL.
The NFL in general has made the decision to keep their games on Sunday so that they're not competing head to head with big time college football. This allows the NFL to perpetuate a view that people watch their game because the talent is better and as so to not appear predatory.
Having a single pac game on Sundays is not going to bother the NFL much. And let's be clear the ratings are not going to be fantastic for the college game, but they don't have to be. They just have to be good enough that the TV partner gets good exposure out of it and makes money.
Now the other provider is really interesting too.
ION
ION is in 37 of the top 50 markets and most/all of the PAC footprint. It is accessible to 60.63% of US viewers. Given that limitation, it sort of makes sense to pair them up with Amazon and or Apple so if you're in an area that doesn't really have ION you can still watch the game live on your phone or computer or streamed onto your TV.
They might be an appropriate partner for some PAC content.  It has broadcast CUSA football games in the past.    A “weaker” Pac game --- Oregon State vs. Tulane --- might really do well on a network like that where the content could appeal in the central and the pacific timezones.
That is a perfect execution of your media assets.
Everyone wins from that scenario. Amazon and Apple are not paying huge amounts of money up front before they've developed the subscriber base to support it.
The PAC which is constantly competing with beautiful mountains and rolling beaches and fresh air in ways that none of the other power conferences have to deal with, can have all of their games accessible via a streaming provider like Amazon or Apple or after the fact on Netflix.
But wait what about all the financial implications.
Honestly I feel like with everyone contributing the money that they likely would contribute there's not going to be a huge difference between the total money that the PAC is irrevocably going to be offered now. If it's 22 million a year for the established PAC brands and less for the expansion teams... whatever.
Both groups of schools can live with that for 4 years.
Transitional members make less for now...
The plain reality is that with the exception of San Diego State none of the schools we are mentioning deserve (based upon their level of production in the two revenue sports over the last 10 years) to be even mentioned in a power conference.
I know the PAC is all about equally sharing money, but the reality is the tidal wave of realignment that UT's move created just doesn't allow that in this media deal.
The legacy PAC schools should get their depressing payouts of say 22 to optimistically 31 million per year.
The other payouts for the rest of the new expanded content that isn’t desired by ESPN is going to be small.  But that’s OK.
SDSU and UNM are only making $4M each in the MWC. UH makes $3.1M.  SMU and Tulane make 7M and Rice makes 2M annually in the AAC.
What that means is you really only have to cobble together an added $42M a year --- enough to pay every new school 7M a year --- from your Spanish broadcast partner, CW, ION, and Netflix for their content and everyone should be relatively happy riding out this deal until the next more lucrative one.
Going back to our earlier point about the Big Ten, the more linear outlets that you get involved with the PAC, the more people you have who want to get the deal done soon and keep the Big Ten from changing their minds and poaching more PAC schools.
If you think about it, just putting SMU, Rice, Hawaii, New Mexico and Tulane into a power conference immediately guarantees that the level of excitement and viewership is going to be substantially higher.... therefore the payouts will be higher. In the grand scheme of things if these schools on average are making $4.5 million in their current conference and all of their games are going to get broadcast in some way shape or form in the PAC, The reality is they're going to get a raise. It is likely not going to be raised to $22 million or whatever the legacy PAC schools get, but it will be in excess of what they were getting...so don’t sweat it and invite them already.
I would set this media deal to run for 4 years ideally  so that the media contract is up before the other conferences . With this many media companies in place, the next PAC TV contract will be much stronger.
In 4 years SMU, Rice, and Tulane will be established as mediocre power conference schools. UNM, UH, and SDSU will have their niches where they succeed.
The PAC brand will be better established throughout that Southern central time zone.
The PAC will be recruiting better and USC and UCLA might be jet lagged and losing games they should be winning.  That may have them rethinking their move.  This is the kind of home that might appeal to them again.
Even if the LA schools don’t return at that point, ESPN will have earlier TV slots at that point that they will probably want to include the PAC likely in place of Mountain West Conference , American Conference or Big 12 Conference content.
Life will be better, but only if you build your foundation now.

I Don’t Watch College Hoops Because Exploitation Isn’t Entertaining
“Because you don’t learn financial management and budgeting by being broke”
Tumblr media
For all intent and purposes, the American college basketball circuit is probably one of the biggest influences that creates the NBA, which I love oh so much.
And I don’t care.
I really wonder, how it is that in a country that values business, enterprise and the ability to earn a living like the United States Of America does, and yet, still does not see the need to garuantee this kind of fairness across the board.
How much money do you think the NCAA makes in a year? Like in one season of college basketball how much do you think the NCAA is worth with it’s live game attendance, ticket sales, merchandise sales, advertising revenue and television broadcasting rights. How much do you think that operation is worth in 1 season?
Whatever you valuation is, it’s wrong, and in all likelihood, lower than what you expect or project because this organization/business does not have to pay it’s labour force.
A quick search on investopedia.com reveals that the NCAA made 1 billion dollars in profits in 2022.
Not a single penny of that goes to the players and I can’t abide it.
youtube
This culture of blatant exploitation is not entertaining, or rather it gets in the way of me finding college basketball entertaining.
There is an almost insidious level of intolerance towards the idea of a college athlete being paid any money to represent an institution in a sport, and I don’t understand why, because the pie is more than big enough that players can be compensated right now, and not have to wait until they make it to the NBA.
Stories like Jalen Rose, Chris Webber and The Fab Five, demonstrate firsthand the kind of vitriol that awaits any college athlete that tries to make a buck for themselves, without the stuffed shirts giving them express permission to do so.
I also don’t buy the idea that players are recieving a free education and therefore getting a full ride to study and play for free, is the only incentive they deserve.
That’s nonsense.
Firstly, college athletes are required to study and play/represent thier college in a sport, but they are also being sent in to the modern day job market where are degree or qualification is less advantageous than at any time in history.
And lastly, these colleges have to understand that they are sending a majority of these athletes in to the modern day labor market, and with that should come an adjusting of the rates. College degrees, qualifications, as well as modern hiring practices are not the trump card that they used to be.
The current revenue share between athletes and college institutions, does not reflect this at all.
youtube
In the video above posted by CNN, former college basketball player, Cody McDavis explains that paying college basketball and football players, would likely mean college institutions cutting spending on less profitable sports programs altogether, specifically with regards to the smaller schools.
In 2019, former staff writer for Forbes, Chris Smith, posted a video, courtesy of Forbes, which went in to depth to looking at valuations and revenue streams for the most profitable colleges, all of whom would have made at least half a billion dollars in 2018.
These teams are making money from everything including game tickets, parking tickets, food and concession, merchandise, media rights deals, sponsorships, television rights, advertising revenue, and in regard to the bigger schools, who can also pull in donations from alumni members in the form of contributions/donations.
In the same year of 2019, CNBC did a video in which they broke down som of the financials of the annual March Madness tournament, and the network reports that the latest television deal made the NCAA 857 million dollars in 2018.
In addition to that the March Madness tournament also brought in 1.32 billion dollars in television ad spending, which is more than the NBA, the MLB and college football.
All of that is outside of other things like the yearly NIT, which is an adjeacent tournament to March Madness, and which together with the NCAA, reportedly brings in upwards of 132 million dollars a year.
This revenue is all collected and essentially redistributed amongst all the competing schools in the tournament, and also helps subsidize alternate sports programs that do not make enought profit on their own, but when you’re dealing with entities this size, with mutliple revenue streams and a nationally televised product, I can tell you, the money is there. What isn’t there is the will to pay it out fairly, on the part of the institutions in question.
The reality is that, I cannot and don’t abide, a multi million dollar company, which continues to grow financially on the backs of unpaid labor.
youtube
The concept of basketball players skipping college is a thoroughly unpopular one, in every sphere of the mainstream media.
You have to understand there is an infastructure at play here, with mulitple billion dollar corporations either indirectly benefitting or directly profitting. From media outlets and publications to broadcast and media entities, aside from people that are actually involved with the athletic side of the game like coaches and scouts.
The only one of these entities that could exist no matter where they get thier players from, is the NBA.
When you understand this kind of basketball economy, you understand why those in the national media are reluctant to support any kind of change to this system.
The issue with accepting this at face value, is the reality of how much college basketball coaches are paid, and that’s where this becomes more apparent as a labor issue.
youtube
Above is a video posted by CBS News on the Youtube channel in which Duke University lecturer, Nathan Kahlman-Lamb, details all the ways that the NCAA’s labor practices are a violation of multiple antitrust laws based on the percentage of the profits that actually get paid to the athlete.
Kahlman-Lamb, makes it clear under no uncertain circumstances that the only way that the NCAA is as proftable as it is, is becasue they do not pay thier labor force.
In 2016, PBS News Hour did a report in which former college athletes like Ed O’Bannon, who was the MVP of the 1995 NCAA finals, and he makes it clear that he considers the NCAA to be a cartel, a fact he believes so much, he has filed a lawsuit regarding the matter.
I don’t buy the idea that the players are interchangeable either.
If anything I believe the NCAA is the replaceable entity. The NBA will always need a feeder system for players, because that’s the nature of thier business. Where they find this talent pool and the rules that govern said aqcuisitions is the interchangeable part.
You can start a league for new/young/developing players, in fact, the NBA wouldn’t even need to do that, they could simply just expand on the existing G-League infastructure.
The NCAA however would have a much harder time convincing kids to play for free if they had a competing entity that was willing to pay players, straight out of high school.
youtube
In recent years, the NCAA has relaxed regulations that now allows college athletes to take advantage of brand deals, sponsorships and image rights, but that’s a separate issue to being paid for the revenue they actually help create for the NCAA.
You can call it what you like, but there is absolutely no way, I am going to watch/write about or create content about or concerning, an entity that openly exploits the most important part of thier work force, and subsequently their money machine.
What I would suggest, is a basic minimum for all college basketball players, regardless of which insitution they represent, or whether they go on to be eligible for the draft.
And please don’t give me any of that crap about how college student will waste money they are given, because you don’t learn financial management and budgeting by being broke, so cut the nonsense.

~ Stanley Randall Marsh ~
Basic Info
Age: 22 Gender: Cismale Sexuality: Bicurious, identifies as straight Birthday: October 19th Zodiac: Libra MBTI: ENFJ Occupation: Full Time Farmer Faceclaim: [ig: toolikk] Ships: Open to any with chemistry
Appearance
Stan's about 6'1, he has broad shoulders and an athletic build; his body is well sculpted from his long hours on the farm and football. His face can be described as slimmer and angular. He has broader cheekbones and a defined almost square shaped jaw. The peek at a Randy-stache was even starting to form, really solidifying how much he looks like his father. The resemblance was uncanny, except for the shape of his eyes and how he spoke. On occasion, people that know his father will approach him, thinking he’s Randy from afar. When he keeps up with his hair cuts and keeping it at around a 3” skater cut, the unwanted confusion is kept a bit at bay, but every winter when he grows out his hair to keep him warm, he gets it frequently. Despite his strong semblance, his wardrobe often sets him apart. Stan’s never been the type to care that much about he was wearing, outside of his very short metrosexual phase. He would take $200 to a goodwill and buy anything that he thought felt comfortable as soon as he started to get properly paid by his father. The staple pieces are his wrangler jeans, he saved up to buy 5 pairs in different shades of blue because he liked the fit so much. As for shirts, he wears a lot of just plain white shirts, graphic shirts he found at a thrift store, or a button up flannel overtop of the previous two options. His dad got him a pair of cowboy boots with a weed plant on the side that when Stan started to wear, he fell in love with the comfort even if he thought he looked dorky. He has two main coats, a big brown work coat for when he has to go out and water the plants in a colder morning, and a nice YSL jacket style coat for when he has to go to school. Stan owns a small collection of designer clothes. It consists of two coats, a sweater that was a gift and a wallet. Having a few nice things was all he wanted. He prefers to spend his money on other people.
Personality
Stanley grew up in a very small Republican town, it leaves a mark on a person. For the most part, he’s politically indifferent, and indifferent to a lot. His job and school work are the only things he really works on. Though it sucks out his soul, it comes back on his one day off a week that he tries to spend with as many people as he can. He tries to be generally indifferent to his life responsibilities. If he doesn’t like it, he won’t want to do it, but he has to do it regardless. He does it so he can spend time doing things he actually wants to do. It made him responsible, and a generally happier person. Mental health isn’t his biggest priority, and he deals with a bad day by drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon and watching the sports network. He tries to be a generally nice guy, but has a tendency to be a bit misogynistic, but in an almost chivalrous way. He doesn’t let women open doors so that he can do it for them, he sees women as weaker than him because physically they were. It wasn’t in a superior way, it was in a protective way. Stan’s a pretty soft dude and didn’t want to see any girls getting hurt around him, he’s always been a protector type, trying to save animals and help people. Religion isn’t the most important thing in the world to him, but he still feels a strong tie to his Catholicism. Stan has literally met Jesus on multiple occasions, and feels a strong connection to his faith for that reason. Other peoples’ religions have nothing to do with him, so for the most part he doesn’t care or pay attention to it. His history with different Christian based churches only further solidified to him that he should focus on his relationship with Jesus and maybe the saints. Though he’s not very involved in the church, and occasionally goes on a Sunday morning when he’s going through a hard time. Overall, Stan’s just an easygoing farmer boy, he’s just focused on trying to have money and enjoy his youth.
History
Ever since Stan moved to Tegridy Farms, his life was overtaken by the weed industry. In the beginning, and for a few years it kind of bothered him that he had to move away and couldn’t see his friends as often. It kind of ruined his life. He couldn’t have friends, a girlfriend, or any fun. Despite all that, he was able to start a new venture for himself in middle school. Selling his dad’s product. Randy had so much production, that Stan taking a few ounces here and there was virtually undetectable. Stan was the one processing it anyways, and the ugly shitty pieces he didn’t want to save for his own supply, he put in a side bag to sell to kids he didn’t really like very much. The quality depended on how much he liked people for sure. It lead to people doing him favors for a couple grams. By the time he was a freshman, he was really good at his operation, he kept it small and casual, and in a town with less than 750 occupants, that wasn’t really a secret operation. Detective Yates just didn’t come knocking on his door because no one snitched on him. According to a lot of the adults that his dad kept baked, he was just a good kid. Just a good Catholic boy that reads his bible and works hard in his dad's fields, and is never late when running deliveries for his dad. Every year since he was 8, he’s been the football quarterback, and in this small town dynamic, it awarded him certain luxuries. If he was wearing his letterman with the Q on the left part of his chest, and a cop pulls him over, he will be let go almost immediately. Some cops hear his last name, and will mention his dad but he tries to play it off. He got his truck, a black chevy tahoe, for his 16th birthday, when he got his license. Randy bought it for him, and even wrote it off on their business taxes. Technically he got it to do deliveries in, but he smokes a lot of weed in it, and tries to get as many girls on an air mattress in the back as possible. During his junior year, Randy made the monetary decision to increase the size of the farm and start keeping animals and food. It was a decision sparked by a threat to divorce Randy again, and since Sharon got to finally have her dream, it brought a new era to Tegridy Farms. However, at the detriment of Stan's education. He dropped out and began taking online classes in his few evening hours. It took until he was nineteen to finally get his diploma, and any inklings of a desire to go to college were ultimately squashed before they could become ideas.
