since i started testosterone in february i have been reading a stanza of andrew marvell’s poem ‘the garden’ every month to track the way my voice has changed. today i finished it :-)
#my voice#does it belong in that tag given that i am speaking and not singing. ah well in it goes#andrew marvell#it is exciting to finally be able to post this! given the nature of the project i've been working on it for a while#i can't remember if i was initially intending to post it but i think it's neat so you guys can see it too :-) a questionable gift unto ye#it's one of my favourite ever poems which is why i picked it. partly because it's a cracking poem but also because the garden in#question is very likely fairfax's garden given that marvell wrote it whilst he was living at his house to tutor his daughter :-)#i love the line about melons. i love the idea that fairfax was growing melons. his melonship#also 'the luscious clusters of the vine upon my mouth do crush their wine' is such incredible imagery i think about it all the time#stopping myself now before i start explaining all my favourite parts of the poem because then i would just be reciting the whole poem#sorry the audio quality changes quite a bit by the way i kept changing where i recorded#oh also i skipped a month because my voice hadn't changed at all (between the first and second stanzas i think) which is why the#number of months doesn't quite match up to the number of stanzas#i do wish i had recorded a stanza when i was one month on T given that my voice barely changes in the last few verses. ah well#anyway i hope you enjoy it my dear friends :-) holding you all in my arms#also as usual i have a few messages and things to answer so i will do that soon! i have been enjoying being active again after so long :-)#ive got a song to post soon too. he he ho ho ho. hum hum hum

Fic Writer Review
Tagged by @fontainebleau22, thanks for the tag, sorry for the delay!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
26 at the moment.
2. What’s your total AO3 wordcount?
722 309. I’d have thought it would be more considering how long some of mine seem to get, although looking at other people’s answers to this meme, I guess 26 isn’t really a huge number!
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
My first fic ever was a little Lord of the Rings experiment for an exchange thing. But my first proper dip into writing for a fandom would have been Breaking Bad, where I wrote for a couple of years before it felt like my ideas had run their course. Then there was a Kingsman fic, and then Mag7 where - similarly to BrBa - wrote feverishly for a couple years until it felt like the well had been plumbed. Oh yeah and then jumped into the Marvel fandom to drop one Marvel fic before immediately jumping back out lol.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
So the Marvel fic has officially just become my most kudoed fic, which is kind of hilarious considering it was a SUEZ! CANAL! FIC! But in my opinion, a good one lol. So yeah, it would be 1. The SamBucky Suez Canal fic, 2. The Kingsman soccer AU, 3. Desert Sand, 4. Chisolm’s 7, and 5. Blue Devils. That last one surprises me, but I guess it was an early one for the fandom, so I think it became an automatic read.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not
I do! It’s possible I’ve missed some here and there, but generally I try to get them all.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I don’t think any of them! While my fics definitely include angst, ideally it’s still in a fun way, or at minimum, bittersweet? I don’t generally want the last taste in a reader’s mouth to be angst. ALTHOUGH. I really really wanted to include an epilogue to the selkie fic that’s kind of angsty. Basically the story would end, but then many years later we’d see an old man get off a bus on the coastal road, carrying a suitcase. He’d be wearing a suit, clearly back from many years travelling. He’d walk to the coast, back over a hill where there’d once been a little fishing cottage, long since torn down. He’d walk down to the beach and into a little cove where he’d kneel by the water he knew better than anyone. Opening the suitcase he’d take out a box which he’d then empty into the ocean, ashes spreading across the water. He’d take out a folded bundle of cloth and wrap it around his shoulders. Then he’d dive into the water, disappearing into the waves, leaving nothing but an empty suitcase behind him, and a folded pile of clothes.
I loved that ending but I’m still not 100% sure if it was keeping in tone with the actual ending, so I left it out. Maybe one day I’ll go and add it as en extra chapter snippet.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I don’t know if I’d call them ‘crossovers’ exactly, although I did stick Goody and Billy into a Some Like it Hot ‘jazz band on a train’ situation, and I also did a Breaking Bad one that used some elements of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Those feel more like ‘AUs’ though. I like situational crossovers, but I’ve never been super into fics where characters from different fandoms actually interact.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Thankfully not. The most off-putting comment I’ve gotten was someone who - despite being very complimentary - decided to make a full-on laundry list all the anachronisms in a chapter lmao, like what. Stuff like "interesting that this character used this expression when XYZ would only been invented 10 years later!” etc. I’m positive they didn’t realize how it came off, but still, that was kind of hilarious in its.....obliviousness lol. It was special.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I do. And I guess I’ve done the full spectrum of ‘fade to black’ to ‘describe every bead of sweat in pearlescent detail’. It really depends on what the fic calls for! I’ve done some I’m quite proud of tbh, but there are others I’d like to go back and have another stab at, just because they felt kinda cookie-cutter.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
There’ve been a couple! I can’t remember which ones specially, but I had some people asking to translate some Breaking Bad ones, and I think a Mag7 one too. I remember someone messaging to ask permission like “We love your fics in Russia!” and that was a very sweet and wild thing to hear.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, I wrote one with @yoporkchopsandwiches! Our Victorian opium dens Breaking Bad AU lol. I was just thinking of that recently actually and remembering how fun it was to read what the other wrote! We plotted out most of it together, and then took turns writing chapters or scenes. But of course while writing you come up with other details or ideas, so we’d then present the new chapter to the other with all the new bits added. And it was so fun to read what the other came up with like ‘omg no way didn’t see that coming/good idea!’ and then picking up their idea from there. In that sense it was almost like improv but for writers.
13. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
That I’ve written? I think I’ve had the most fun with Goodnight/Billy, partly for the time period, partly for the dynamic, but mostly for the plausibility. While I really enjoyed writing BrBa, it felt more like it came from enthusiasm for the show, not the central ship lol. Don’t get me wrong, the chemistry and its potential was extremely fun to write in a fic setting, but I don’t find I actually shipped it while watching the show itself. Whereas it’s been nice with Mag7 to write for a ship that’s actually....more believable lol.
14. What’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Ugh I can’t beLIEVE I have an unfinished fic up on ao3 lol it haunts me. I was sure I was done with Goodnight/Billy, and then early quarantine last year I had a train robbers AU idea, so I posted a couple chapters. But I don’t think my heart was super in it, I was more just messing around with the idea. I don’t want to delete it, but I’m also not super motivated to finish it haha, but we’ll see what happens. But tbh I like the poem summary better than the fic itself:P
15. What are your writing strengths?
Plotting, keeping things moving, and making stories feel visual maybe? They’re almost all movies in my head anyways, so I think I have good instincts for ‘cinematic moments’.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I think I’m a little lazy, and also ‘end-product oriented’. In some ways it’s helpful to picture the whole fic before you write it, but sometimes it results in some scenes feeling slightly slapdash because I’m just trying to get them out to move onto the next. Like ‘everyone did everything I wanted to in this scene? Great, next.’ I could stand to ‘stop and smell the roses’ more while I write, and actually see what else I can do to improve a scene.
(also if I use a word once it sticks in my head I end up using it like 5 other times in a scene and don’t notice lol, I need to stop that)
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
All for it! Depends how it’s done though. I personally find long scenes of dialogue where you have to constantly jump down to the author’s notes for the translations to be distracting. I like when it’s integrated more naturally where actual translations aren’t super important. Like in River Grit, Billy overhears this little exchange between Goodnight and his childhood nanny:
“Ah c’est vrai, mon petit Bonsoir! J’en peux pas le croire!” she cried out and laughed as she embraced Goody. Billy realized with a start that he actually recognized one of the words: ‘Bonsoir’. Goodnight. (insert brief flashback of Goody teaching him the nickname) / “Ma Serafine,” Goodnight said with a laugh. “C’est vrai que tu ne vieillis pas. Tu vas me rendre jaloux, heh?” / Billy had no idea what Goodnight was saying, but he sure as hell recognized Goodnight’s tone for flattery, and it was confirmed when the old woman laughed and smacked his arm.
What they’re actually saying is: “Oh it’s true, my little Goodnight! I can’t believe it!” / “My Serafine, it’s true you never age. You’re going to make me jealous”. But it doesn’t matter because this fic is from Billy’s POV so it’s about how he experiences the language around him, which is why I wouldn’t have included a translation for the reader. If you understand it then it’s a bonus, but the words themselves aren’t really the point!
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
That lil Lord of the Rings fic.
19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Hmm for Mag7 I’ve always liked River Grit and love how it turned out. I also think Ashes feels very complete as a fic and I liked the flashback format. And while it’s not my favourite fic, in hindsight I’m impressed with the Kingsman football fic and how I had to write about 5 different soccer games and make them all feel different and exciting, and not just some variation of ‘He kicked the ball!’ I’m really pleased with how those sequences all turned out.
La fin! Not tagging anyone this time, but please feel free to do this if you see it! I love when people just take initiative to do these things without waiting for a tag (also please tag me in it if you do, ‘cause I love reading these things lol)

relationship headcanons [shreya x mc]
note: here she is in all her two month late glory. i cannot for the life of me find the original post that the prompts were taken from, but if you can, please lmk!
pairing: shreya mistry x f!mc (rhea yang)
words: 2,834
warnings: none

who hogs the duvet
Rhea is comfortable sleeping at pretty much any temperature, being both a Water and Sun-Att, whereas Shreya absolutely hates being cold. The nights they spend together—especially in the winter months—mostly involve Shreya hogging the duvet while Rhea puts up a weak fight before letting her have most, if not all, of the blankets.
Sometimes Shreya sneaks into her girlfriend’s room with the excuse of it being too cold to sleep alone, and Rhea doesn’t ask her why she doesn’t just turn up the magick heating system they have installed in their dorms. Even with the blanket hogging, she likes having an excuse to sleep next to her.
who texts/rings to check how their day is going
Shreya. She pretends like she’s above it, but with her girlfriend’s life constantly being in danger as of late, she can’t help but worry about her a lot of the time. When they’ve been apart for more than a few hours and she’s unsure of what Rhea’s doing, she’ll drop a (magickal?) text asking her what she’s up to. Before they started dating, Shreya would try to hide this worry by sending her texts about other, unrelated things, like homework or random life updates, and then wait for a response just so she knew Rhea was alive.
“Zeph, do something stupid.”
“What?”
“Do something stupid! Be yourself! I need something to text Rhea so I know she hasn’t died since the last time I saw her.”
“You could…just…ask her?”
“And show vulnerability? Are you insane?”
She’s able to drop these pretences once they officially start dating, and honestly, Rhea doesn’t mind it one bit.
who’s the most creative when it comes to gifts
Shreya’s the one who gives the most gifts, but Rhea is the one who has to be a little more creative when coming up with ideas, what with her not having Shreya’s endless Mistry wealth to fall back on. It’s important to her that Shreya feels appreciated for everything she’s done for her and their friends, so she tries to go the extra mile every time the opportunity arises to give each other gifts. Rhea often enlists the help of Griffin or Zeph, both far more experienced in magickal gift-giving than she is; Aster’s shop is also a treasure trove for quirky magick things she can put together as a present.
For their first-year anniversary, Rhea gives her a scrapbook she’s been working on since they started dating, filled to the brim with animated photos, souvenirs, poems she wrote, drawings, pressed flowers, and other magickal and non-magickal knickknacks she collected throughout their relationship. Shreya cries a little.
“Do you like it? … Oh, oh god. Are you—Are you okay?”
Shreya hugs her so suddenly and forcefully that Rhea almost topples over.
“Rhea Yang, this is the sweetest, most adorable thing anyone’s ever done for me,” she sniffles into Rhea’s neck.
“I…I’m really glad you like it.”
“I love it. I love you.”
who gets up first in the morning
Rhea. She’s a morning person by virtue of her being a Sun-Att, and can’t bring herself to sleep in any later than 9 A.M., even if she barely got any sleep the night before. Shreya can’t stand this—even though she tends to wake up fairly early herself so she has time to get ready (“You think I manage to look this good by waking up ten minutes before class every morning?”), on days where she can sleep in, she doesn’t appreciate being woken up, however unintentionally, by Rhea getting out of bed. Rhea tries to make up for it with cuddles and kisses, or by bringing breakfast from the dining hall to their suite if she has time.
who cries during movies
Shreya is usually the more emotional one, but she can’t count on one hand the number of times she’s seen Rhea cry while watching some heart-warming animated movie. They’re having a Pixar movie marathon one night after a long week of classes, when Shreya notices sniffling sounds coming from Rhea during the opening scene of Up.
“They just—they just wanted to have a kid, you know? But they couldn’t, and they loved each other so much in spite of it, but then she dies— And then this little kid shows up on his doorstep as if she’s guided them to each other and he follows him on the adventure of a lifetime that he’d talked to his wife about when they were kids…”
Shreya can’t help but smile, but she refrains from teasing her. Instead, she wraps her arm around Rhea and pulls her close, wrapping the blanket further around them while Rhea nestles her head in her shoulder. Shreya presses a kiss to the top of her head.
“I didn’t know this movie made you so emotional.”
“Yeah— well. I watched it a lot as a kid.”
who gives unprompted massages
Shreya. She picks up a trick or two from spending so much time at the spa, so whenever she notices that Rhea—who’s usually fairly laid-back—is more tightly wound or stressed than usual, she’ll sneak up behind her for a surprise massage.
They’re in their suite with their friends one day, poring over books in an attempt to find out more about whatever it is that keeps attacking Rhea, and Shreya can’t help but observe how tense Rhea seems. Once the others have left, Shreya pulls Rhea down onto the couch next to her, pressing a kiss to the back of her neck.
“Your back is in absolute knots, love,” Shreya mutters, lifting her hands to rub Rhea’s shoulders. “You might as well be hiding those little shadow monsters in them.”
Rhea seems to relax, but only marginally. “Maybe then we’d have a better chance at finding out what’s going on.”
Shreya shushes her before she can continue. “Nope. No more talk about shadow monsters or Blood magick or reflections. I’m demanding that you take a break.”
With Shreya’s small and surprisingly strong hands at work on her shoulders, Rhea can’t find it in her to argue, so she sighs, leaning into Shreya’s (quite literally) magickal touch and allowing herself to feel content for the first time in a while.
who fusses over the other when they’re sick
Shreya’s definitely the one who worries the most. Rhea catches a nasty cold after getting doused in lake water during a Thief game, and Shreya barely leaves her girlfriend’s side while she’s bedridden. She has to use force to keep Rhea in bed half the time, because Rhea hates being immobile for long periods, which leads to Shreya at some point using magick on Rhea’s blankets to trap her in the bed. She brings food up from the dining hall for Rhea and even tries her hand at cooking her mother’s recipe for soup that’s meant to help cure colds. This… does not end well, because Shreya is a horrifically untalented cook. (More on that later.)
On the other hand, Shreya hates it when people fuss over her when she’s feeling ill or otherwise not like herself—she hates showing weakness, so she tries to hide it. Rhea is very perceptive, though, so even the slightest change in Shreya’s behaviour will alert her to something being wrong. When Shreya gets sick after getting caught in the rain, Rhea takes up Attentive Girlfriend duties by gently persuading her to rest—because Shreya Mistry’s stubbornness is second to none, so Rhea needs to take the more encouraging route. Rhea’s a lot less overbearing compared to Shreya, but it’s little things that she does, like stopping by Shreya’s room to check on her between classes, buying Shreya’s favourite food to cheer her up, and cuddling up next to her to watch trashy reality TV, that remind Shreya why she loves her so much.
who gets jealous easiest
Shreya, definitely. They’re both attractive, charming people who attract a lot of admirers, but Rhea for the most part laughs it off easily, while Shreya bristles whenever someone so much as bats an eyelash suggestively at Rhea—though she tries (and fails) not to show it. It’s a little hypocritical of her, honestly, considering how Shreya flirts with pretty much every new person she meets, but she can’t help it.
During their first few days at Penderghast, when Rhea and Griffin were spending a lot of time together, Shreya recognised that spike of jealousy in her gut the moment she saw Rhea flirtatiously pull Griffin’s arm around her in the hall that one time. Almost on instinct, Shreya started overcompensating by flirting more with Griffin whenever Rhea was around, thinking it was her that she was jealous of. This backfired when Rhea found the whole thing hilarious, assuming that Shreya was just like that. It took Shreya a few days to realise it was Rhea she was interested in, not Griffin. After that, she realised she needed to be a little more…forward when it came to flirting with the fairly oblivious Rhea.
who takes the longest to get ready
Shreya, quite simply. Rhea used to get complaints from her family for taking so long to get ready every morning, but having to wait on Shreya is on a whole other level. Shreya makes them both late to every event they go to (partly on purpose, because what better way is there to make an entrance than to arrive fashionably late?), and it drives Rhea crazy.
“Oh my god, how many more products do you need?”
“Beauty is pain, babe, and sometimes pain means you need to be patient with me.”
who is the most tidy and organised
They’re both organised in different aspects of their lives, and completely dishevelled in others. Shreya likes making lists, and always has her bullet journal (or the magickal version of one) on hand. It’s filled with due dates, shopping lists, appointment dates, and random scribblings. She may not be the most studious, per se, but she always knows what she needs to do next and never turns in work late. Rhea reads and studies a lot, but is kind of a scatterbrain when it comes to remembering when things are due, so she tends to rely on Shreya for that, even in classes they don’t share. (“Honestly, Rhea, what would you do without me?”)
One thing Rhea can’t stand, though, is a messy living space. Her room is always tidy and spotless, with everything she needs to find in an allocated drawer, her bed always made, all her clothes either folded or tucked into a hamper and never on the floor. It drives Shreya a little crazy when her girlfriend and roommate is nit-picking at how messy her own room is whenever she comes around—because, let’s be real, Shreya having grown up with servants at her beck and call means she probably isn’t the best at keeping her room tidy, even with magick to help her. They spend most of their time in Rhea’s room because of this, until Rhea caves one day and forces Shreya to clean her room with her.
who is the big spoon/little spoon
They take turns depending on their moods, but Rhea is usually the big spoon. Not always of her own volition—Shreya is notoriously good at getting what she wants, and what she wants is to be cuddled, goddamn it. Not that Rhea minds.
who gets most competitive when playing games and/or sports
Okay, hear me out: Shreya. She doesn’t actually play any sports, and initially doesn’t even care much for watching Thief, but dating their star Sun-Att player slowly turns her into one of those Intense Supportive Girlfriends cheering viciously from the side lines. (It’s the Fire-Att in her.) Zeph has to do his best to get her to calm down, while Beckett (if he’s even around) pretends like he doesn’t know either of them.
“You call that an Air spell? My girlfriend could out-cast your ass any day!”
“Did she just shoulder-check Rhea? Oh my god, I’m about to run onto that field myself—”
“That is SHREYA MISTRY’S GIRLFRIEND you’re about to steal a flag from—”
“Shreya…please, literally the entire stadium is staring at us.”
who starts the most arguments
Shreya. It’s not usually on purpose, because she hates intentionally bringing problems into their relationship, but her temper sometimes causes her to snap. Sometimes, though, she finds it necessary to bring up problems they’re having, because Rhea’s the type to avoid conflict, even when it clearly needs to be addressed—that is, if Shreya never brings it up, it’ll never be resolved. Sometimes it’s over something small, like how Rhea keeps forgetting to lock their door, and sometimes it’s something bigger, like how Rhea always tries to pretend like she’s okay when she clearly isn’t, but they always talk it out, even if it takes some screaming at each other to get there.
Other times, Shreya finds herself picking arguments for no reason other than the fact that she’s had a bad day. When this happens, instead of arguing with her, Rhea will try her best to cheer her up—sometimes by grabbing her girlfriend’s hands, kissing them and making Shreya tell her what was really going on, and other times by simply, without warning, hoisting Shreya up onto her shoulders and running around like an idiot until Shreya devolves into fits of laughter. (Side note: Rhea is definitely nearly a head taller than Shreya, and is very much capable of carrying her for long periods.)
what tv shows they watch together
Shreya is absolutely the type to be into trashy reality TV, though it’s mostly Attuned TV shows. When Rhea introduces her to America’s Most Eligible, they both fall in love with how ridiculous and awful it is.
“Who the FUCK voted for Zeke over Bianca?”
“Okay, like, Ivy is an evil conniving witch and whatever, but that plot twist was… hot.”
They watch a lot of other stuff together, like true crime documentaries, which they both love, and weird, obscure indie movies that Rhea’s obsessed with and which Shreya tries to pretend to be interested in—but nothing beats AME nights together.
who is the best cook
Rhea, by default. Shreya’s skill at brewing potions unfortunately doesn’t translate well into the kitchen, but for the longest time neither Rhea nor their friends have the heart to tell her. When Rhea gets a cold and Shreya tries to make her soup (no magick ingredients, just good old-fashioned soup that her mom used to make for her), and Rhea is a little more out of it than usual and is unable to hide her distaste for the concoction Shreya has made for her, the not-so-secret comes out.
Shreya sighs. “You can stop pretending to think I’m a good cook, you know.”
“That’s not what I…” Rhea stops herself, partly because of the sudden wave of dizziness that hits her, and partly from defeat as Shreya shoots her a look that says, Don’t you lie to me. “I’m sorry, Shreya. I love you to bits, but God, your cooking is a nightmare.”
Her girlfriend rolls her eyes. Shreya is sitting next to her on the bed and is holding the bowl of soup in her hands, which she places down onto the bedside table. “Fine, I’ll go ask Beckett to brew something to help with your cold—”
“No!” Rhea grabs Shreya’s hands as she stands up as if to make to leave. “No Beckett. If I have to hear him tell me that I should’ve taken his advice and worn a protective ward before the Thief game so I wouldn’t get sick again one more time, I might just kill myself.”
Shreya narrows her eyes playfully and draws her hand back. “Hmph. I feel like that’s a pretty suitable punishment for you considering you’ve been lying to me.”
Rhea falls back onto her pillow, lifting a hand up to her heart like she’s just been shot. “They always say the lover did it…”
Rolling her eyes again, Shreya moves towards the door, for real this time. “Seriously. If you won’t accept my soup then I need to find some other potion to cure you. I’ll ask the infirmary.”
From her slumped position in the bed, even her exhaustion can’t mask the stupid smile that spreads across Rhea’s face. “Hey Shreya.”
“What?”
“I love you. A lot.” Rhea doesn’t miss the quirk of Shreya’s lip, a small smile breaking through the joking exterior. “Thank you for trying to make me feel better. I appreciate it even though it turned out terrible.”
Shreya’s face falls, once again replaced by a characteristic eyeroll. “Ugh, you were doing so well in the first half.”
She whisks out of the room and shuts the door behind her. A few seconds later, the door reopens and Shreya reappears. “I love you too, stupid,” she says, before slamming the door closed again, Rhea laughing like a little schoolgirl in love in her wake.

“10 Movies to Describe Me” tag
Hey, as I ever said, I LOVE cinema and going to the movies, watching documentaries, enjoying life by studying every nuance present on the 7th art.
Along life we have contact with a bunch of movies and references that affect our personalities, view of world, and even how we act towards some situations. Cinema is a powerful way of art, possibly influencing.
Everyone has a list of movies which influenced our personal growth. This list is all about it: 10 Movies you can use to describe me.
1 - Spirited Away
Tumblr media
Well, I think Spirited Away was my first contact with cinematography eastern culture and made me go further in searching for more. I was 5 or 6 when I watched and fell in love with it.
Nowadays I know how to respect different cultures, have a deep interest in stories and mythologies from other countries. Thank you Studios Ghibli!
Influenced personality: Love for mythology and cultures.
2 - The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Tumblr media
I LOVE drag queens and everything related to that subculture. I remember watching that movie as a kid, after midnight and hiding from my parents, which advised me to sleep because I had school the next morning.
Everything seemed so colourful and amazing, almost magical. A explosion of music and dresses, high heels, makeup, big wigs and dancing.
While growing up it influenced my choices on sports, acceptance, music, and love for drag culture.
RuPaul's Drag Race is part of my love for drag queens, but it wasn't the first reference. Btw, support your local queens and art.
Influenced personality: Dancing skills, LGBT acceptance (when it comes to myself, I have nothing to do with someone else's sexuality), love for drag culture and pop music.
3 - Blackfish
Tumblr media
Oh ma'am, now we got to a very rough part of my personality: my HATE and INDIGNATION over zoos and aquariums.
I don't like zoos, not at all. Watching animals caged in small spaces and sad, oh boy, it makes me want to invade the whole place with a hammer and set them free.
Before watching Blackfish I didn't quite realize how bad everything was for fishes in Aquariums as well. Now, I want to start petitions against Sea World and Aquário de São Paulo.
I love animals, WAY MORE than I enjoy being around humans, so knowing how suffering is their life inside small places makes me want to cage humans and let them walk freely.
Influenced personality: Love for sea animals and thirsty for their justice.
4 - Inglorious Basterds
Tumblr media
(This scene is one of my favourites lol)
#ILOVEHISTORYANDTARANTINO
Well, Inglorious Basterds is a very historically inaccurate movie, but I love it with all my stone cold heart. There are so many catchphrases and iconic moments.
I just love that movie. Nothing really special or meaningful.
Influenced personality: The need for kill Nazis lol
5 - The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Tumblr media
I was a very angst teenage and depressed as well, not counting anxiety on the mix. When I was 13 The Perks of Being a Wallflower aired on cinemas, and suddenly all my concerns about acting weird and not normal, compared to other girls around and whose studied with me, kind of seemed so pointless, mainly because Patrick, Charlie and Sam seemed to have so much fun, even acting quirckly and being classified as misfits.
My story has nothing to do with neither of characters, but I related a lot to them. So I think a big part of me came and flourished after watching The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Also, it taught me the importance of speaking how you feel, therapy and trusting people enough to tell them when something wrong is going on.
The book is also one of my favourites, so I’m not impartial when it comes to The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Influenced personality: Not afraid of being myself, fight for human basic right of having mental health treatment guaranted and embracing my quirk personality.
6 - Erin Brockovich
Tumblr media
Everyone who knows me well enough, is VERY aware of how independent and self-suficient I am. I hate depending on people for completing tasks or doing stuff, so most of the time I try to learn do things all by myself. It’s something natural inside of me, partly because I don’t get lonely, so the idea of depending on someone to anything makes me cringy.
Erin Brockovich is a movie I watched when I was 12 and the way Erin acted towards everyone, giving priority to her life and kids, not caring about everyone else’s opinion, it made me root to be independent like her (except for the kids and struggle to find a job). Erin exhales big dick energy, also the ending made me aplaud the movie (even tho I was alone at home watching it).
Influenced personality: I learnt how to classify my priorities, also improved my confidence on how I act, since Erin isn’t afraid of achieving things and proving her point, even if everyone else is against and won’t believe her.
7 - Lilo & Stitch
Tumblr media
I think every single living human alive had at least one movie, you know this one movie, which you obsessed during your childhood. It doesn’t matter the genre, you watched it nonstop and pissed off your whole house with how repetitive movie marathons seemed to get with you, since everytime you picked whatever you were about to watch, your choice was quite predictable.
The movie I obsessed during my childhood was Lilo & Stitch (also Scooby Doo, where do you think I learned how to copy someone’s fingerprint by using pore cleanser and powder?).
As I mentioned a few items ago, I was a misfit and it played a big part on my life, being excluded from parties, playdates and games during P.E was common. It bothered me, but everything changed when we adopted my first dog, a dachshund called Xuxinha. We were Lilo & Stitch, whenever people treated me badly at school, I knew that she would be waiting for me at home.
Xuxinha passed away in 16th February 2017, and I still miss her.
Influenced personality: It helped understand that people are douchebags, but as long as I have my dog/sister at home to hold and distract me, then nothing else matters. I learned the importance of surounding yourself with people who cares about your well-being, not caring specie, ethnicity, etc.
8 - Wonder
Tumblr media
I don’t think this item requires a lot of text to describe why I felt influenced by it. Watch the movie and let’s sob together.
Influenced personality: Learned why appearance means nothing, and everyone goes through some struggle, so always be there for people who cares about you as much as you do about them. Also, always stand up against bullying, it may look like a joke now, but it can be the trigger for fatalities.
9 - Spotlight
Tumblr media
I study Social Communication: Journalism, that’s what I’ve been wishing to do and want to be in the future. Even tho I decided what I wanted as my career YEARS before the release of Spotlight, it helped me define which kind of journalism I wanted to follow: Investigative.
It feels like I just made 4 out of 2+2, considering the fact that I love detective stories and would love to be a detective myself, but watching and acknowledging that all the investigation and  accusations were based on real facts, oh Ma’am, I can’t even describe the thrill consuming my mind only by imagining what it feels like to be involved journalistically in an investigation.
Influenced personality: My PASSION for investigative journalism.
10 - The Imitation Game
Tumblr media
Last but not least: The Imitation Game.
Well, I constantly get annoyed on how biased our society is, for real, and whenever it happens I write poems and texts and protest, and piss off a bunch of people by only talking about a situation of inequality. When I first watched The Imitation Game the whole Alan Turing being castrated and killing himself because of homophobia and a VERY, I repeat, VERY narrow-minded society, it PISSED OFF THE HELL OUT OF ME, and I used this rage during a full semester of college paper works.
I named a group after Alan Turing and our semester project was basically about people being biased and killing genius because they cannot look further from their own bellybottoms. I won a “Oscar de Jornalismo”, which is the award that happens every six month in my college, prizing the best works from the semester.
It still makes me so angry to imagine what Alan Turing could had done if he lived for at least 20 more years.
Influenced personality: Well, it made me channel my rage about a situation and helped me to understand why we should discuss homophobia, racism, wars, etc, even harder now. Watching the world following the path for making the same mistakes all over again is frightening, and only history can help us.
- x-
It has potential to be a tag, so I’ll tag some people I want to know what movies inspired them. You don’t have to make a whole long ass text about your choices, just sharing is enough :)

Every 5th question for the book ask :)
😆 You don’t ask for much…I love it!
5. What book or book series would you like to see turned into a film/ TV series?Hmm, the issue with this is that all my favourites that have been turned into films/tv series have almost always been ruined in the doing (see, for example, The Little White Horse fiasco/Voyage of the Dawn Treader). So, with the caveat that I would only like to see this happen if I were the sodding producer (and Director?) - Violent Needham’s Stormy Petrel series. I remember @girlonabridge and I dreamcast it once, but i am struggling to remember who we cast asides from Gary Sinise as Far Away Moses, and the Fiennes child who played young Tom Riddle as Dick (although at the age he was then…) Thinking on it now, I reckon Jemma Redgrave would make a delightful Wych Hazel, and Mark Strong would be a good Black Mask. Gary Oldman as Count Jasper, maybe?
10. What is a book that you own more than one copy of?Oooh, there’s a few of these. I have various of EBD’s Chalet School books in duplicate, partly because @girlonabridge and i consolidated our collections, partly because Granny just picked up copies when she found them (we have 3 hardbacks of Princess, for ex, and at least one paperback). Technically i have two Midnight Folk by John Masefield, because I cannot and will not throw out the remnants of the very battered paperback that Granddad gave me of it, despite having a full identical copy. I also have two copies of the Pope’s encyclical Evangelii Gaudium, because I bought one, and then a friend bought me one too. Oh, and I have the french Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and the german Prisoner of Azkaban (as well as the english, obvs.), bought at various times when I was trying to improve my fluency in both those languages.
15. What book made you cry? Many and various! But the most memorable are Gay from China at the Chalet School (I’m sure you know why) and (when I first read) The Last Battle by CS Lewis, many moons ago. Now I utterly love it, and while I may get a little teary, it’s nothing like the grief when I was 7!
20. Have you ever been glad to not finish a series? Which?Hmm. There have been many series I haven’t - yet - finished. Technically, I haven’t finished the Chalet School! But one comes to mind, and that’s GP Taylor’s Shadowmancer series, and that’s because they’re the most woefully awful books ever. I can’t quite credit that I finished one. Also Robin Jarvis’ Whitby Witches series, because they scared the living daylights out of me, and I still occasionally have nightmares 20 years later.
25. How many books do you own?Haaaaaaaaaaaha. I was kinda hoping someone would ask this… So. Um. We have 70 (mostly longer than average, sometimes deeper) bookshelves *stuffed* and sometimes double layered, plus various piles of books as well. Spread across 14 bookcases, if you were wondering.  When we moved into the flat, I took great delight in organising everything by subject/topic/general area, so they are at least organised. Sort of. If you squint at the piles, and one of the newer bookcases which just got the overflow. But I didn’t count, and even if I had that was 7 years ago, and we are incorrigible book buyers.
30. What book are you planning on buying next?On that note…. 😂 I have a list of books on my phone that are potential presents for @girlonabridge, so obviously can’t put them here! Probably some more law books tbh. I have a book voucher for No Alibis in Belfast, and they’re the official stockist of my uni, as well as being a crime and thriller specialist. But I’m not normally a planner outside of law and presents, so, who knows! Whatever takes my fancy….
35. What three books are you most looking forward to reading this year?Well, I have now - finally - completed one of them! (it is nearly September, I’ve had the book since last October) - Hidden Nature by Alys Fowler - 10/10 would recommend. Her journey of kayaking Birmingham’s canals for a year, whilst she came to terms with being a lesbian, who had been married to a man for 15 or so years. Part naturalist observations, part coming-out autobiography, it’s fabulous.) Asides from that, I’m actually really looking forward to re-reading Good Omens, because it’s a delight. And I’d really like to read Lies we tell ourselves by Robin Talley, because I read bits of it over @girlonabridge‘s shoulder and it sounds great.
40. What is the weirdest book you have read?I really don’t know how to answer this tbh. Weird in what way? I suppose most Jeanette Winterson books might count as weird to the uninitiated, but I love her style dearly, so they don’t seem weird to me… Maybe reading a Viz annual when I was, idk, 9, was pretty damn weird? (I mean, I thought it was weird at the time, and haven’t ever gone back to see if my childhood self was correct in this theory.)
45. Do you own a poetry anthology? What is your favourite poem from it?We have a variety. Only a few of them are specifically mine tho. I *ahem* stole my copy of Seamus Heaney’s Opened Ground (his collected works) after AS Level English Lit, because buying a new copy would have meant losing all my precious notes - and my favourite in that is probably Bogland. I also somehow mysteriously ended up with A Choice of Poets - my GCSE Eng Lit anthology, of which Thomas Hardy’s Woman Much Missed was always my favourite. More recently, I bought a copy of Poems for Refugees, edited by Pippa Haywood after 9/11 and the ensuing wars. It’s a fantastic anthology, and I’m hard-pressed to pick just one poem out of it, because they’re all superb. Many old favourites, a few lesser known. I’ve just picked one at random -  This above all is precious and remarkable - by John Wain (1925-94), selected by Judi Dench. (Interestingly, when i put the title into ecosia, to search for a link, the first link that comes up is from a Mercy website I get weekly emails from, and the recommendation is made by a Sister I have met in the past! Small world.)
50. What book got you into reading?I think it must have been The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis. I can remember Granny reading me the beautiful A4 unabridged illustrated (by Pauline Baynes, naturally) version when I was about 4 or 5, and I wanted more… That or the Orlando books by the artist Kathleen Hale, again, I’d have read those when I was *very* young - after having had Granny read them to me.

rose, peony, iris, sunflower + why + a short poem about which you pick, freesia, violet, orchid, gypsophila, alstroemeria, anemone, snapdragon, hydrangea, ginger
damn nia you really got me out here answering these questions haha (but i love you for it)
peony: do you put more value in honour or truth?
i feel like honor gets so muddled and people put so much more effort into maintaining it than the should. something like pride. what does your pride get you?? most of the time i feel like you just end up not doing things you should because you feel like it’s humiliating. like apologizing or admitting you’re wrong or reaching out to others or stuff like that. so i think i put more value in truth. because i feel like honor gets so cluttered with other things. there’s nothing bad about honor and having it, but i don’t think it’s the most important.
iris: favourite 90s song?
this is a hard one!! there are so many good songs and such diverse genres of music from that decade. but for this moment, i’ll say to zion by ms. lauryn hill. because like…you can’t beat ms. lauryn hill.
sunflower + why + a short poem about which you pick: sun or moon?
you wanted a reason for why iii love the moon??? (shameless plug for a band i love haha.) but real talk, i think likely the moon. i think there’s something romantic about the moon. i think there’s a very subtle beauty to the moon. and like…luna is my favorite word in spanish so there’s that too. and oh goodness, i haven’t written poetry in forever but i’ll give it a try. (please excuse very very very very very very very poor quality)
winter wisps lightly bite their noses
coats wrapped tighter around shivering torsos
flickering street lights guide the way
home to stress and endless effort
but there in the sky
there she rests
there she watches
the moon
constant and certain
watching over us
freesia: are you still friends with the person you considered your best friend two years ago?
two years ago was winter quarter first year, so i would say yes. i don’t think there is one singular person i call my best friend, but i have a fairly good set of friends and for the most part those people have remained constant. one left, but may be easing back in again. so that’s very nice.
violet: have you had your first kiss?
i have! and i handled it really poorly and was overly stressed and overthinking the fact that i wasn’t really ready for everything that would in theory come with it. so i panicked. but i cherish the memory because it was one of my really good friends and i really loved her.
orchid: favourite fruit?
i’ll have to say strawberries!
gypsophila: do you prefer many distant friends, or a few close friends?
i can’t say both?? nah, i’m just playing haha. i guess i would say a few close friends. i like having people to just chat and hang out with, but i cherish the closer relationships. though i think it’s important to not just have one person on whom you put everything. i think it’s important to have more than one close friend. at least for me.
alstroemeria: dream vacation?
i never know how to answer this question! at the moment, likely to somewhere in latin america. like mexico city or lima or cuzco or bogotá or quito or argentina or rio de janeiro??? i don’t know man ahaha
anemone: were you ever interested in greek mythology?
oh boy was i!! i read the percy jackson books, of course i was obsessed with greek mythology throughout high school.
snapdragon: favourite mythical creature?
oooh, this is a good question and one i haven’t considered before. is this specific to a certain mythology? or is it any mythologies?? i must say, though, that dragons have always been very fascinating.
hydrangea: proudest moment?
probably getting into the college i’m attending right now. but also i can’t really think of too many so maybe there is another one.
ginger: least favourite food?
oh goodness. maybe…kale?
rose: describe your crush
oof, do we really want this haha? i’ll also say that my crush is fading, which is very likely for the best. but while it still hangs on…i have a crush on someone who is very…unique? i don’t know how to describe it. at first glance, when you first meet him, he’s incredibly intimidating. and i think it’s partly because he’s incredibly intelligent and knows this and so appears a bit standoff-ish. but once you get to know him you realize he’s actually just a giant dork and is very weird and very uncool™. kind of…does thing to make a fool of himself to bring joy to other people. takes care in the small ways like standing with you if you’re off alone doing something. listens. very intense eye contact haha. i don’t know. there’s a lot of things i could describe, but i just like that he has a special ability to make me feel cared for and seen and heard. so yeah. there ya go.
send me an ask from the 25 flower asks!

having a coke with you by frank o'hara (one of my favourites, anyway)
This poem has a much different vibe than the others I’ve been sent, quite refreshing haha
is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irún, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonneor being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelonapartly because in your orange shirt you look like a better happier St. Sebastianpartly because of my love for you, partly because of your love for yoghurtpartly because of the fluorescent orange tulips around the birchespartly because of the secrecy our smiles take on before people and statuaryit is hard to believe when I’m with you that there can be anything as stillas solemn as unpleasantly definitive as statuary when right in front of itin the warm New York 4 o'clock light we are drifting back and forthbetween each other like a tree breathing through its spectaclesand the portrait show seems to have no faces in it at all, just paintyou suddenly wonder why in the world anyone ever did themI lookat you and I would rather look at you than all the portraits in the worldexcept possibly for the Polish Rider occasionally and anyway it’s in the Frickwhich thank heavens you haven’t gone to yet so we can go together the first timeand the fact that you move so beautifully more or less takes care of Futurismjust as at home I never think of the Nude Descending a Staircase orat a rehearsal a single drawing of Leonardo or Michelangelo that used to wow meand what good does all the research of the Impressionists do themwhen they never got the right person to stand near the tree when the sun sankor for that matter Marino Marini when he didn’t pick the rider as carefullyas the horseit seems they were all cheated of some marvelous experiencewhich is not going to go wasted on me which is why I am telling you about it

Les Mis Ice Skating AU
as presented by @maraudeuselunaire and me. Disclaimer: Our complete knowledge about ice skating comes from watching YOI and youtube videos. We know nothing, bear with us. (This got way out of hand. Go under the cut for a way too detailed list of headcanons)
Courf and Ferre started out as rink mates and quickly became friends on and off the ice
But when Ferre hit puberty and his first growth spurt his doctor advised him to quit competitive skating as it was becoming too much for his body
So instead of competing himself he started to help Courf with his programs
Eventually he became his full time coach and also boyfriend
As they both are huge nerds Courf's routines often are themed after their favourite films (and sometimes downright disturbing because "Mars Attacks!" is a great film, no matter what everyone else is saying, dammit!)
There was only one program in Courf's professional career which he created in secret from Ferre
It was an exhibition piece to the Jurassic Park main theme and Courf wore a dinosaur costume
Ferre proposed after this
Bahorel cried and also may or may not have ripped off his shirt and thrown it on the rink
Since then their fans throw dinosaur plushies on the rink
Courf is actually well-known enough to have his own fan club
Its only member is a journalism student named Marius Pontmercy
It's not an official fan club
Marius scheduled an interview with Courf who had just returned from Nationals a few years back and somehow seemed to find himself more in a coffee date situation and a sudden, unexpected love for figure skating routines
(He went to every competition Courf was in ever since)
(Maybe not literally)
Marius gets to know Cosette by throwing a plush bear at the rink after seeing her skate for the first time. It was an accident. He panicked, okay?
When Cosette smiles at him and picks the plushie up to take it to the kiss and cry, Marius is afraid his face will never turn back to its normal color again
Turns out Cosette and her dad-coach Valjean are an actual enigma of the figure skating world. No one actually knows anything about their private lives. This is even more so confusing as Cosette has a popular Youtube channel where she gives training advice and vlogs about competitions??? How do they manage to keep so private??
It's no surprise that Courf is delighted to get to know Cosette, drags Marius right along with him, and secretly documents their first ever conversation so that he'll be able to screen it at their wedding. He's a man who thinks ahead, okay?
One of Courf's most favourite opponents is Jean Prouvaire. One time they both earned a podium finish with Courf slightly ahead and Courf cried
Who can blame him though?
Jehan is widely acclaimed for their elegance, posture, and ballet performance, and they only ever do their programs to screamo metal
Their coach is Bahorel, who 100% supports this choice and the goth costumes coming along with it (Jehan: That's great, but can we add some fake blood? Bahorel: LET'S ADD A FUCKING STAB WOUND)
In the year of their senior debut, figure skater Montparnasse has a meltdown in front of his coach Claquesous because goddammit this is his branding! (If physiotherapist Babet and fan club manager Guelemer are present too, it's because it's an emergency)
The resolution they arrive at is to fucking double the goth and add some glitter while they're at it, which ultimately results in the most dramatic costume fight the figure skating world has seen so far
It seems to culminate at an event where Jehan's costume seems to be nothing but a human skull placed on their head and is completely drenched in fake blood
This is when Montparnasse decides to do a number in black light in a skeleton suit – and is left dumbfounded at the next competition where Jehan turns up wearing a full-on medieval bridal gown including a fucking veil and with actual leaves sewn onto it and proceeds to skate to a melancholic N'Sync medley played on the flute
Montparnasse, afterwards: That was sick. Why would you do that. That wasn't. I couldn't believe my eyes. The fuck
The time Jehan wins the Grand Prix Final is when they and Bahorel choreograph a program to the reading of a Romantic poem though. No music, just the words. It's stunning.
Grantaire used to skate as a kid and was pretty good but stopped when he was about fifteen because he felt like he could not actually compete with his peers
That was partly because Eponine, who he used to skate with since they both were very young, had to give up skating because her parents couldn't afford the lessons anymore and R on his own had little to no self-esteem (it's way better nowadays)
But they both never stopped loving the sport so eventually they decided to open up a dance studio
Their studio is quite popular (they do not teach aspiring skaters only, in fact they mostly teach children, but they are renowned for their skills and often recommended among skaters when it comes to ballet)
Also R is at absolutely every competition to cheer on his boyfriend Enjolras
Although that doesn't stop him from teasing Enjolras whenever he can, especially as R can be pretty graceful off ice but Enjolras, unless he concentrates really hard, has the natural gracefulness of an old potato
Enjolras is that one contestant who is a gold medal candidate in every event he shows up
Everyone thinks he has no chill whatsoever
He always seems 100% unimpressed in interviews before the competition starts (Journalist: Are you nervous?, Enjolras: Why?)
Only his physiotherapist Feuilly knows he's a massive dork
Most people have already forgotten the complete mess and lineup of failures his senior debut season was
Nowadays, the only controversial topic his performances spur is his apparent weakness for dramatic musical theater numbers as well as for “well-hidden” symbolism
Professional in hijacking interviews to comment on political and social topics
He becomes friends with Courf and Ferre at the banquet after the first ever senior competition they are in together, first observing them from afar for good thirty minutes and then walking straight up to them like “hello you are my friends now”
Naturally, Courf and Ferre adopt him on the spot
Feuilly knows Musichetta from physiotherapy school
Nowadays Musichetta organises LGBT+ positive sports events
When she is planning a same-gender pair skating grand prix she calls Feuilly to ask for his help
That's how special guests Enjolras and Courf end up doing a routine together
This is also where they meet Bossuet and Joly (or as they are called by their fans "The Eagle and the Cricket") who gave up professional skating in order to be able to skate together
There are too many "Spread Eagle" puns to be counted, Grantaire is delighted
Enjolras is secretly relieved to meet Bossuet who just like him is super graceful on ice but lacks general control over his limbs whenever he steps outside the rink
