Plot:

Idk how but he hears about mutants in the sewers either from the news or from stockboy so goes to the sewers to catch the turtles but he either ends up failing somehow and turtles mess up his traps unintentionally or he does capture one of them but they somehow escape or the turtles gotta go and save them

Last review! I’m so sad to see it end but from what I’m hearing, it ended beautifully.

Danny didn’t have chance from the beginning. He got a silent mother; abusive stepfather, abusive alters, and a lawyer with an addiction, I see why he thought suicide was his only way out, even without knowing about Stan’s addiction—Candy was the icing on the cake.

Ray’s boss annoys me. “Good girl”??? Such misogyny! And it hasn’t gotten better either, men still act this way.

Tom did his big one with this role. Like does Stan believe Rya finally when he heard Jack speak? Jack is the evil within this whole entire time. He made Danny leave for London to look even more guilty. If he left at all. Jack is horrible. I don’t even know how his alter was created.

Also, I love how the closed captions say normal voice when he’s speaking with an American accent when we all know Tom’s normal voice is British 🤣

Never heard Jason’s American voice ever, that’s amazing! And how Tom’s American accent changes to match Jason’s is SO FUCKING AMAZING! You hear the struggle of trying to keep his British accent at bay while trying to sound like Danny but it’s not Danny’s voice, which is much lighter in tone.

Now Jack came out lol and had the other lawyer looking at him crazy lol. I’m so glad Danny broke free so that Adam/Danny could finally speak. And I hope the alters finally see how destructive Jack is.

Danny finally coming to terms with Adam not being his actual brother but another alter (it’s funny how alters don’t age when you do, like what if you’re in your 60s but you have an alter in their 20s and they try do a backflip? That’d fuck you up)

Adam came before Marlin entered into their lives. Imagine all the abuse he had to deal with before that in order to create Adam? That’s sad. And the fact that Adam let marlin do whatever just so that candy wouldn’t be alone is heartbreaking. She put all her hurt and emotions onto Danny, allowed him to see her that way, and that made Danny/Adam decide to put up with whatever abuse he had to to keep her happy

And now the other lawyer is crying. I understand it’s her job but she pissed me off. I’m glad Danny won. And Danny being in shock—the emotions from just his eyes alone?? Unbelievable.

This new wig don’t look bad, I just wish they filmed it different so they could allow him to cut his hair cause I know he was over it at that point.

Love how Rya became the mother figure he needed. Candy knew that his biological father had been molesting him but because memories don’t develop until after four (sometimes early but the brain is so traumatized, it’ll black out anything, trust me—half my childhood is gone and I don’t remember anything) that’s when he created Adam and she let him believe that Adam was real and off with their biological dad like some parent trap shit—what parent willingly separates twins?! Seriously!

I’m so happy Danny didn’t forgive her. She the victim and the villain; instead trying to make the situation better again, she just stayed and allowed it to continue. I truly thought she was gonna say his father had DID, not that he was a pervert. And I just don’t understand how she couldn’t leave again if she did it the first time.

Tom’s cold icy stare is both sexy and heartbreaking, he gives tortured artist. Emmy looks like Mila Kunis to me. (Sorry it’s the ADHD)

So now that fusion therapy is working (a better outcome than the person this was based on) does this mean that Danny’s bisexual 👀 (do not come for me, it was an intrusive thought!)

Love the paintings are exactly the one from the intro; I wonder what debt Danny’s talking about. We’ll never know; the show’s over and it’s an anthology 🙃. It was beautifully written and so well taken care of. I’m sad that Tom can’t express that anymore cause of the strike but hopefully he sees how much this show means to us

Never mind I think I know what the debt is:

Danny has to now fuse Adam. His inner child that he has to protect, or be a guardian Angel for.

This show has made me appreciate those who struggle with mental health (like myself) and those who never stop helping them. And it also made me appreciate the cast’s acting, especially Tom’s; this shit was difficult and hard and I’m sure he will never do another difficult role again and I hope he never has to.

@sugarthegecko hello! I'm your Secret Santa. I'm sorry it took me this long to get this gift to you, things have been a bit hectic where I am.

I wanted to try something new and wrote a one shot! It also comes with a few colored sketches I made along the way of the two antagonists. I will put the drawings at the end of the story. Hope you enjoy!

It was a beautiful day to be beneath the waves. The normally dull weather that hangs over the Bermuda Triangle was set to clear for the entire week, leaving uncharacteristically safe conditions for a reconnaissance mission that Jack had been losing his little mind over for months.

A small vessel carrying a family heirloom, a gold-crested lock box dating back a few hundred years, had gotten hit by a stray wave, forcing the captain onto a lifeboat as his ship capsized and quickly sank. The good news is that the captain survived, which is how Jack got enough information to take the job at all. His recounting of where the boat was when it went under was spot on too, which is especially nice because finding out where the wreck is was only half the battle for this particular job. See, in escaping the ship with his life, the captain wasn’t able to get the lockbox, meaning it went down with his ship. The family it belonged to was less than thrilled, to say the very least.

And that’s when Jack heard about it. The family was willing to pay a fortune to whoever stepped up and got the box back; not that Jack was diving for an extra paycheck. Even before he had decided he wanted to be a marine archaeologist, he'd been enamored with stories of the mythical Bermuda Triangle. Tales of monsters appearing from its shadowy depths, however unrealistic, were something he liked to think about to keep his job interesting when things got slow. He could just see a megalodon’s lifeless eye peering up at him from the inky water, just waiting for him to get close enough to-

“Helloo, Jack? You there?” A voice sounded from the receiver in Jack’s mask, making him jump a little in surprise.

“M-Huh? Sorry Lori, yea, I’m here.”

“Good. Please try to focus? There could be sharks or marlins.”

“Of course, my bad.”

Lori is Jack’s assistant. A bit of a hardass, but he’s been getting through to her lately. Once the nerves of jumping into the water and sinking into the dark wear off and it’s just the two of them, she can be really fun to talk to. For however long the communications decide to keep working in their masks, that is. Water pressure doesn’t play nice with lightweight electronics.

As the silent descent continued and Jack made a mental note to complain to his manager, a boxy silhouette began taking form in the sea of shadows beneath him. A thin line of bubbles excitedly glimmering in the glow of Jack’s headlight made its way up from the shape,  meaning they were right on target.

“Bingo! You got an eye on it, Lori?”

“Sure do. Here’s hoping my camera’s still works, I just got a new lens for it.”

“Camera? Ooo, we actually gonna try to get a picture of a sea monster?”

“As much as I’d love to, no. Our clients just said they wanted to see where the box ended up. Plus, it’s great publicity. Tourist subs don’t get this far down. I’ll send you a postcard from the kraken’s stomach if we end up finding one though.” Lori fidgeted with the bulky tool as she descended a little ways above Jack, ensuring that nothing was gunking up the lens.

“What? You can’t get eaten! I’d be all alone down here..”

“A great white shark once said, ‘fish are friends, not food’. You can be friends with the kraken, or you can join me in its belly.”

“Yea yea, I bet the fish would be fresh in there anyways.” Jack made first contact with the wreckage now just beneath his feet as Lori playfully responded in disgust. The white plating of the boat’s hull barely had time to erode, much less allow algae growth, so it almost looked like it could float again. And it probably could have, were it not for the captain’s incompetence. Jack had thought it sounded strange for just one stray wave to send a boat under so quickly, so it was likely that the poor guy just didn’t do proper maintenance on the vessel’s coolant pipes and didn’t want to admit it. Nothing short of a missile could send a boat down that easily otherwise.

Feeling satisfied with his inspection of the boat’s port side, Jack made his way up to the open door of what appeared to be the helm. Peering in, there looked to be a small ladder leading down from right behind the captain’s controls.

“Okay, I’m gonna start looking for the box. You coming?”

“Yea, just getting some pictures of the outside first. Let me know when you find it so we can swap out. The two of us might clog up the cabin if we both go.”

“Aah, good thinking. Alright, I’ll let you know.” And into the wreckage he went.

“What the hell is that? Some kind of malformed angler fish?”

“I’m trying to tell you dude, it’s a human! I saw another one swim into that wreck, too!”

Nac layed low to the seabed, shyly pointing a claw at a tiny figure as it waved a cone of light around in the water. Every now and then it would suddenly flash an even brighter light from a box in its hands, then swim off to flash it at something else. Nac had to suppress a startled flinch in his tail at the brightness.

Nac’s more squid-shaped friend Rel rested in the seabed alongside him, squinting in confusion at the little human as it floundered about, flashing its light seemingly at random. “I didn’t know humans had lures, nor that they came down this deep. Are you absolutely positive that it isn’t just a big angler? I’m hungry.”

“Yes! Positive! I’m pretty sure that one’s ‘lure’ is just another human gadget, which I’ll bet is how they got all the way down here too. Cool, right?”

“Yea, I guess,” Rel sighed. “Oh well, they’re small but they’ll have to do. Dibs on this one,” he finished as he tried to take off from the sand. But before he could get anywhere, Nac latched onto one of his tentacles and held fast.

“Ugh, what is it Nac?”

“Jeez, chill out for a second, dude! We never get to see humans down here. Could we at least..” Nac’s tail twitched a bit as his eyes lit up. “Could we at least mess with them a little first? You’re hungry, I’m bored, it’s a win-win!”

Rel pulled back and put two fingers up to his chin, mulling over Nac’s proposal. “Mmm fine. But I’m taking both of them.”

“What? Hey! I’ve never tried human either, dude! Share!” Nac pouted, his claws subconsciously digging into Rel’s flesh.

“Ow! Okay, fine! I’ll take the one closest, you take the one in the wreck. Now would you please let go?”

“Sounds good, buddy! Have fun and don’t get hooked!” Nac exclaimed as he bolted off into the dark.

“Right.” Rel moped, staring at his prey. The passengers on this boat were supposed to have been his anyway! How was he supposed to know that it was only empty because the one thing he sank it for had gotten away?

Whatever. Perhaps this really would be more fun.

“What was that?”

Lori’s voice came on suddenly after silence had taken hold of the comms for a good ten minutes, making Jack bump his head against the ship’s hull. Ow!

“If you mean the sounds coming from the boat, that would be my head slamming against the hull.”

“No no, it wasn’t a sound, just..” Lori went quiet for a moment. “Nevermind. I’m seeing things.”

“We can call the expedition early if you want,” Jack checked his oxygen gauge. “I could do with a fresh tank anyway. We’re gonna have to make stops on the way up.”

“It’s fine, just keep looking for the box. I’m done out here.” Lori swiveled her head around as she made her way up to the door that Jack’d swam in through, but she couldn’t see anything. It was all black past the cone of her headlight, which was beginning to feel uncomfortably small. “Could you hurry up please? The water isn’t getting any warmer.”

“Sheesh, alright, hold on. I just need to- Ah! There it is! Lori, I found the-”

…

“Hello? Jack, you there?”

But the comms were nothing but static. It wasn’t exactly a surprise; these microphones were in desperate need of an upgrade. But something didn’t feel right this time. Something felt terribly, terribly wrong. There was a shadow, some inky blot that kept just to the corners of her eyes. It could be a shoal of fish, but then, why would it move like that? It’s almost as if.. As if..

Lori jumped violently as a few rhythmic knocks sounded from the boat’s main body, a signal that she and Jack had come up with the first time their microphones cut out to make sure they could still keep track of each other in the wreckage. She swam close to the hull to return the knocks, and as she did so, something brushed past her foot.

Immediately, Lori flipped around and prepared to bop a shark in the nose, but nothing was there. It was still just water, sand, and the void beyond her light, unknown and unyielding. She could feel her heartbeat start to pick up, the claustrophobic confines of her suit seeming to constrict her body in nervous warmth.

Just then, through the static of Lori’s mask, Jack’s voice started coming back through. “Hellooo? Loriii? Lori Dory Oreo, you there?” 

Lori steadied herself, the relief of hearing Jack’s voice overshadowed by the intense need to stay completely on alert as she took a moment to respond. “Jack, I think something is here.”

“Uuh yea? There is a boat, maybe some fish, and this totally awesome box that I’m coming out to let you take a picture of.”

“No, Jack, I mean something is in the water. I think it’s watching us.”

Jack laughed in cruel dismission. “Oh haha Lori. Good try, but I’m not that easy to scare. Good on you for taking the opportunity while we’re here, though!”

“Jack, seriously. We have to go right now. Screw the bends, we just need to-”

“Need to what?” 

… 

“Lori? Did this stupid thing cut out again?”

“It sees me.”

“What? What sees you? Lori, are you okay?”

…

“Lori, come on, this isn’t funny anymore. I’ll be out in a sec, just hang ti-”

…

The feed cut to static once more, leaving Lori completely alone, staring at two huge, luminous yellow eyes like a guppy in floodlights. She wanted to move, wanted to swim up and out of the water with all her might, but she simply couldn’t. The thing’s gaze froze her muscles into place, as if the water itself had turned to ice.

Without warning, a ginormous clawed hand shot out from the black shroud, enveloping Lori’s entire body before she could even scream.

Lori wasted no time in thrashing against the creature’s flesh with everything she had. The utility knife that’d been clipped to her belt was instantly freed, wildly slashing an escape into the walls of her pale prison. The creature loosened its grip in response, but only just enough to let Lori’s head pop out while it squeezed the life out of her. Even as dark spots began taking up her vision, she dared to look up at its face.

Dark, navy blue skin beautifully complimented the yellow eyes of a face that looked insultingly human, apart from two long, pointy ears. Long, white hair unfurled from the top of its head; each lock a set of tangling waves to further drown Lori’s hopes in. But she was too exhausted to fight now; any oxygen she had was forced from her lungs. Unwilling to gaze into the creature’s maw, she let the last of her waking moments be spent looking into its eyes.

She wondered why it looked so disappointed.

And all went dark.

“Lori? Lori?! Goddamnit, this stupid microphone! One second Lori, I’ll be right out!” Jack called into the dark cabins of the boat, his fists banging against the walls as he made his way out. In all his panic, Jack hadn’t realized that he made a wrong turn somewhere along the way, placing him on the starboard side of the hull’s interior.

Right where he could see a huge, perfectly circular gash that’d been punched into the ship’s metal plating.

“What the hell?! But he said-” but he had no time to waste. He had to get out of the ship right now, and he figured the breach should be just large enough to let him through, even with all his gear on.

Without a second thought, Jack grabbed the edges of the hole and prepared to hoist himself out into the open water. He only needed one mighty kick, and then he’d be able to find Lori and get the hell out of he-

“Hello~”

..!

Jack snapped his head up at the sudden noise, only to be met face-to-face with some massive thing with a human face. It had a long, toothy grin on its pale, scarred countenance, and every one of its teeth looked sharp enough to cut diamond.

…

Jack retreated back into the boat.

He clawed onto any surface he could in an attempt to force himself deeper into the ship’s body, desperate to get away from the thing just outside the paper thin walls. Jack could hear it chuckle as he clamored away, but just as he had clung onto a door, the thing started sucking water out through the breach. The force of the current was so strong that Jack’s hands were ripped away from the doorframe, sending him careening into the beast’s terrible jaws.

Rather than being instantly ripped apart, Jack growled into his mask as his stomach was met with several rows of teeth and his tank clinked against the thing’s lower set. The sharp points were catching on the fabric of his suit, just barely avoiding cutting into his skin. In an attempt to regain his bearings, he curled up and placed his hands against the monster’s lips, desperately trying to ignore the fact that he was about to be bitten in half.

“Nac, would you quit toying with it? I’m still hungry and the sun will be down soon.” another voice suddenly chided from somewhere behind Jack’s head.

“One shecond,” the sharkish creature responded, its voice rattling through Jack’s skull like a bell. “Itsh really hutting uh a hight!”

The other voice gained an edge in its tone. “Don’t speak with your mouth full.”

Jack’s fruitless struggle against the shark’s jaws suddenly came to a halt as it plucked him out of its lips like a cherry stem, thankfully with all of his lower body intact, except the utility knife that was supposed to be clipped to his hip was gone. Fingers were wrapped around him just as he tried to kick away, and there he continued to squirm.

“I said it’s really putting up a fight! See? Look at this one go! Even now it’s still wiggling around.”

“Yea, they tend to do that when they’re about to die. Speaking of, you should really be getting on with it.”

“Whatever dude, I was getting to that!”

The hand holding Jack’s entire body in place loosened up, allowing his blood to run cold and fast at the sight of an approaching maw. His headlight served to reveal every gruesome detail he hadn’t been privy to from the beast’s lips, including bits of viscera stuck between its three rows of teeth.

What if thats-

“OH MY GOD, WAIT, WAIT! PLEASE!” Jack pleaded through his mask after suppressing a gag. But his cries didn’t even reach the shark, not even a flinch came of its ears.

Flippers met the surface of the monster's tongue. It was too soft to push off of, not that anything he did would allow him to escape. The shark’s gills were probably quivering in anticipation, waiting to bring him down, down, down. What more could he do but jam his eyes shut and.. and..!

“STOP!!”

…

A pause. It seemed to last an eternity. Jack’s mouth had opened, but he didn’t know why. Let alone that it had released a sound loud enough to rival the thing he was about to be silenced by.

…

“Nac, please. This is getting old. And why do you look like that? It doesn’t taste that bad.”

The monster, henceforth known as Nac, once again plucked Jack out of his jaws, then brought Jack to the front of his face. The two stared at each other, both some strange mix of horrified and confused.

“Did.. did you hear that?” Nac spoke, almost in a coo. “I think it just talked to me.”

“Oh sure, Nac, because that makes complete sense. Listen, if you don’t want to eat it that badly, just give it to me. No need to make up such utter nonsense.”

“No, really!” Nac’s voice shot up again. Jack felt like he was going to implode. “I think it made a word! Like, a word word! Listen, I bet it can do it again, see?”

Jack was abruptly turned around and presented to a second enormous creature with a human face, this one having a tentacled lower half and extremely long hair. If the lack of care Nac had in handling Jack’s body didn’t kill him first, then surely his heart would pound hard enough to escape from his chest.

The other creature raised an eyebrow at Jack, then sighed and leaned in so he was close to its ear. He supposed that meant he was supposed to speak, but the words weren’t coming out. The lump in his throat just wouldn’t al-

“Ow! QUIT IT!” Jack yelled, feeling three rough taps against the top of his helmet. The navy blue creature in front of him jumped slightly. Jack froze in place.

“See! I told you!” Nac barked as his friend pulled away.

“B-but, how is that even-” it paused. “I’ll be.. Right back.”

The other monster’s tentacles disappeared into the abyss, leaving Jack and Nac alone together. For a moment, they just stared at each other in silence, but Nac was quick to fill it with a torrent of questions and niceties.

“This is so gnarly, dude! Oh my god, hiii! I can actually say that now and it isn’t weird! Do you think it’s weird to talk to fish? Rel says it's stupid because they can’t understand what you’re saying, so it’s even more weird that you of all things would be able to talk back! Do you have a name? Do humans even have names? Do you guys know any other fish like us? Go on, talk!” 

Nac’s smile returned to his face, somehow even larger than it’d been when Jack was trapped halfway inside of it. This couldn’t possibly be happening. It had to be some sort of decompression-induced fever dream. In just a moment, Jack would wake up to Lori squawking at him to get back on the boat.

Wait..

“LORI!” Nac’s ears twitched as Jack piped up again. “Where is Lori?!”

Nac’s slit eyes seemed to stare straight through Jack at the question.

“Aheheh, erm, uh, well, about that. The other human, they’re..” Nac looked around as though trying to catch her swimming away. “Theeeyyy’rrreee- oh! They’re right there! See? Rel has them!”

Nac turned Jack and pointed into the dark, where two yellow spots preceded the return of the second giant creature, Rel. In its hand was the comparatively small, black-and-silver form of Lori, lying completely still.

“O-oh my god. Oh my GOD! LORI! LORI!” Jack began squirming again, wanting nothing more than to make sure his friend was okay. But the shark held firm.

“Calm down, this human is fine.. Somehow. I felt its heart beating through this extra layer of skin you wear. Is it how you two managed to get down here?” Rel quizzed Jack, who had ceased struggling to lock eyes with the thing holding his friend.

“I-I, just..” Jack checked his oxygen gauge. Less out of necessity, and more out of habit for the sheer fact that not a bone in his body wanted him looking these monsters in the eyes. Forty-five minutes remaining, miraculously. He steeled himself, “Could you please, please bring us back up? I need to know if she’s okay.”

“Eh? Why would we need to go up?” Nac swam to Rel’s side, turning Jack along the way so that both monsters were in his view. “Are you trying to leave?”

“No! No, we just.. Our tanks only have enough time left for a few stops, and I don’t want Lori to get the bends. It might kill her if we don’t take our time.” As much as he wanted to get out of the water, Jack knew that it would only make matters worse if he wasn’t careful. Though he couldn’t see Lori’s actual condition, he chanced a guess that it wasn’t great if she’d passed out. Even if the monsters were just toying with him again, asking for their help was a risk he had to take. It didn’t seem like either of them wanted him gone anyway.

“Right.” Rel said promptly, though he looked at Jack like he’d just grown an extra head. “And, what exactly does that mean? Can’t you breathe here?” “..What?” Jack felt like he’d been slapped in the face. What kind of a question.. “N- Okay, you know what, wait. How about this. I’ll explain everything on the way up, and if you really want to, we can chat on the boat. I’ll also let you know when to stop and go, that way we can avoid barotrauma. Does that sound okay?”

…

“Yea, sure dude! Sounds good!” Nac, surprise surprise, put on a big stupid grin once again.

“I.. Suppose so. Just, don’t try to leave. Okay?” Though it seemed like Rel had composed himself, his eye twitched a smidge as he looked at Jack again.

Jack shrank back a little. “No problem!”

Jack wasn’t sure how long either of their composures would last in the long, cold journey back up to the surface, but he had to hope that it would be enough time for him to at least see Lori awake again. He himself had questions for the two sentient fish men he was somehow communicating with, and he had to admit that it was a bit exciting. Never once did he think that the stories he’d been told as a child were anywhere close to reality, and yet here he was, wrapped in the claws of a megalodon and conversing with a kraken, all while being in one piece. Of all the things to come of this trip beneath the waves, only one was certain.

It was going to be a long way up.

Watching The Crowded Room and going in completely blind..

Haven't seen a trailer, no idea what it's even about lol

Here are my thoughts as I move along..

After watching Ep 1, I think:

Danny and his brother where SAed as children, maybe by the stepdad.

Ariana is a sex worker?

His brother either died due to abuse or offed himself because of it.

Ep 2:

Ariana was sexually abused too, I think.

Danny might have Multiple personalities and seems to be unaware about it.

Some charracters might actually be part of his system?

Is the "ghost house" actually his mindspace?

Ep 3:

Yup, multiple personalities!

Yitzhak is definitely one of them!

Jonny probably too & if he is, so must Mike.

Ariana might be aswell, maybe she's his sexual protector & SA trauma holder.

Did he ever have a twin brother, or was he also part of the system?

I love Yitzhak, best protected ever!!

I think Rya, the psychiatrist might suspect him having DiD, but isn't sure yet & the police has no idea.

They handled this whole theme so respectfully and good!

Tom also did such an amazing job portraying his roles, it's amazing!!

Especially considering that this series and the movie "Split" where apparently based on the same case.. I fucking hated how DiD was portrayed in Split.. Like it's something to fear. Like it makes people violent. And as something fucking supernatural.. I fucking hated that.. But "The Crowded Room" is so honest and respectful.. It's beautiful!

Chapter 4

When she accepted Laurie’s outstretched hand that morning, it never occurred to her that she may have to kill him.

Eva had been too caught up in being safe while she was with him playing the love-struck girl ---only partially as Laurie was every teenage girl’s dream and she was no different--- that it never crossed her mind.

Not when he killed Tullia when she tried to drown her while they bathed, not when they broke away from Mink and Diamond while they sabotaged them and not even when Marlin was killed for what they did.

They are barely at the seventh day of the games and now they were down to four.

Basil, the boy from eleven, never arrived for his pack at the Feast. Neither did Diamond, only Mink so frantic in opening his pack that he didn’t notice Laurie behind him until he slit his throat.

There are bites on Mink’s legs, little bites that spell death within the hour.

Their clothing provided some cover, but these fangs had torn through the fabric and by the looks of the blood still leaking through the bites, these were venomous.

Mutations even Eva had never encountered in her life. Eva knew what to do with tracker jacker stings, with the wasps that mixed with them and had a similar effect, and even how to make anti venom for all sorts of snakes, but this bite was too fine and too deep to be a regular snake.

“Snake mutts,” she warns as a canon goes off along with Mink’s. There is no way of telling who it belonged to until nightfall and it was still noon. They take the remaining packs with them to ensure they give chase.

Only three people left in the game. Eva prays her murderer is not Laurie.

“Do you have snakes in your district?” Eva asks as they return to the only source of water left in the arena, where Diamond or Basil will come even if it means their death.

There had been a fire to force the survivors to the oasis and end the games before sundown it seems. The same oasis that Mink had left covered in snake bites.

“Towards the south, I grew up in the north with my mom and my brother.” He answers as he leads the way back, trusting her not to drive her knife into his back.

Laurie really likes her, so much he stole a kiss from her when they set the stockpile of supplies on fire, and she kissed him back like she meant it. They hold hands sometimes; she always makes sure to sleep near him. First because she was afraid the others would attack her in her sleep and then because she enjoyed it too much to stop.

He could kill her if he wanted to. Slit her throat with her own knife while she is snuggled up beside him in their shared sleeping bag, snap her neck when he hugs her close in his sleep.

She could kill him too.

Poison their water supply, his food or even take advantage of his bad choice of trusting her.

If they killed whoever the hovercraft picked up, it would be down to the two of them. He is much stronger and faster than her, better fighter than even the Peacekeepers back at 10.

“Jack said he saw a man kill one with a stick while he was there on his tour last year.” He mentions. His twin’s victory had elicited some envy and admiration from him. Jack was born first, slightly taller and a favorite of their grandfather who saw the son he never had.

They had no father; their mother had wanted a family but never a man to control her like her father did. Their granddad, a stonemason, was harsh, he’d survived the dark days as a boy, and it had never given its hold on him.

Servilla Plinth, Strabo Plinth’s wife was his grandmother’s elder sister and that made them kin to the Plinth Family who earned their way into the Capitol and later made President Snow their heir. Made their granddad resentful to the point Laurie’s mother got a job at the main city just to get away from him and his anger before it rubbed off on them.

Instead, the old man’s influence had made Jack volunteer at his next reaping to show their mother was undeserving of their grandad's derision. Turns out Jack never liked the way the old man treated her and his wife.

And now Laurie was here to leave no doubts that their mother would never be looked down on by anyone. No one else has had two victors in their family in their district.

“I heard about it. One of the maids at the Justice building told us about it when she came to buy more calming tea for the mayor’s wife, they gave the rattle to your brother as an apology gift for interrupting dinner, I think.” Eva wonders what his strategy is to get rid of her. Will he wait until she is distracted or asleep enough not to hear him? Will he finish what Tullia started and drown her?

Then she thinks of Clemens' advice.

It’s not difficult to make a boy or a girl fall for her, Eva doesn’t even have to know she’s doing that to get someone to like her that way. It just happens, just like it did with Laurie.

Could she turn the tables on him and have him completely at her mercy?

Her two kills had been with tricks, with a cactus with too much alkaline. The others had been Laurie’s doing.

Eva never thought she would have to kill him and her heart breaks because as much as she’d tried to stop it, she likes him.

Perhaps not love him, but had they ever had a chance, she could have.

“He still has it, said some cryptic shot about how the games never truly end. Life is just another big arena.” He continues talking as if nothing had changed.

He hopes whoever is already at the oasis will kill her and he can be the hero who avenged her. Diamond will want her dead because of Mink, because she and Tullia distrusted her from the beginning.

Basil will kill her anyways because he knows he stands a better chance at killing Laurie than she can.

“He’s not wrong about that, if you don’t work you starve, if you aren’t careful you die. I suppose we don’t have to worry about another human being killing you as much as we do here.” Incredibly wise words from a boy engineered to kill for entertainment. “Actually, this gives me an idea.

Use me as bait.”

That way they don’t have to kill each other.

Laurie is so taken aback by it that it takes him a while to sputter a no.

“They could kill you!” he says as she makes them stop as they load the important things each pack has into one of them.

Theirs had a food, water, anti-venom, and armor. Well, his had armor, she had stolen the one meant for Diamond even if she was taller than her.

“But you would kill them in revenge. If one of us must die here, it should be me. You have your family back home. I don’t.” They had felt bad when they saw the photographs of their family in them to remind everyone that Eva didn’t have a mother, a father, or a sister or even a brother to come home to.

She had her aunt and her cousins, but her pack only had a scarf that doubled as a shawl that her mother once owned.

She could strangle someone with it. Or she could be killed with it. A painful death either way.

If it’s not Laurie who kills her, she will be fine.

“If I have to die, I don’t want you to be the one holding the knife.” Eva says quietly, taking the pack with the big number 1 on it and leaving before he can stop her.

The capitol must be eating this up, tragic romances always play well in the games. Even gets people in the districts to root for them. She wonders who is rooting for them back home.

She wonders who they upset at the Gamemaker’s table when she sees the oasis overrun by colorful snakes. The trees, the grass and even the rocks are overrun by these colorful monstrosities.

Eva only sees Basil run to her like mad with snakes wrapping around him, slithering up his legs and some even standing about half their height in effort to find something to bite. But its too late, some have already bitten him and his only way to survive was the anti-venom in the backpack.

And he won’t have that, because the moment he tackles her, Laurie’s managed to lodge a knife into his shoulder.

Eva hadn’t needed saving, all she needed was to let the venom take its course or help it along by taking one of the mutts and letting it sink its teeth into Basil’s neck. She also could’ve let herself die here and give Laurie a clear chance at winning.

But she hadn’t. Because all her talk about dying was just that, talk.

Eva’s hand is still holding a mutt by its head when Laurie comes to help her up.

He’s in love with her, she can see it in the way his face is marred with worry for her, how relieved he is that she is okay and the realization that one of them is going to die for the other.

And because it hurts her to know he loves her even if he’s never said it, Eva is going to make history by denying the games their victor.

“I’m sorry, Laurie.” Eva kisses Laurie like his love is returned and he is so caught up in it as he tries to dry her tear with his thumb that he doesn’t feel the snake until it bit his neck.

Laurie is too disorientated to react with anything but a harsh shove and the last thing he sees is her using the same mutt that bit him on her own wrist.

Only one canon sounds. Eva knows it’s not hers. How stupid of her to think the Capitol would allow their games to have no victor.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, the winner of the 61st Hunger Games, Eva Smith of District 10.”

When Jack takes over at the witness stand and starts saying that Danny doesn't have any alters and was not abused as a child and Ariana, Mike and Jonny beat him up at the barn and take over and reveal the abuse that Danny suffered at the hands of Marlin, letting Danny also hear that what happened to Adam was really happening to him

Finished 9 and 10:

TCR peaked at episode 8 for me. Which is unfortunate because I really was looking forward to the courtroom scenes.

Things I liked:

- Stan’s opening argument. Christopher Abbott was shining in these last episodes.

- He is an asshole, and that’s an understatement, but they nailed Marlin. They not only managed to show him as someone who could be caring to Candy and someone who slickly twists the truth to make himself look good.

- The prosecution using Annabelle to paint Danny as someone with a violent past instead of someone who finally stood up to his bully.

- The prosecution using Jerome’s testimony to diminish the relationship he had with Ariana. She even put doubts in Jerome’s mind. Well done.

- The prosecution painting Rya as an opportunist. More importantly the fact that this was the first time Danny heard about it. Planting the seed in his mind that she was just another person using him instead of an ally. Rya breaking down after her testimony was also great. However I hate how they transition from that to her talking to Candy. It felt like too big of a jump (I understand time is of the essence).

- Rya and Candy in the dinner is one of the highlights of the show to me.

- I absolutely love that Candy didn’t come through for Danny. The opposite would have made me raise an eyebrow tbh.

- Tom’s performance on the stand was amazing!!!!

- I liked the conversation with Rya, the where is Ariana made me laugh.

- Same with his conversation with Candy. Her being vulnerable about struggling with coming to the realization that she “let” two monsters in their lives was great. Glad he’s keeping her at bay because there’s real damage there.

Things I didn’t like:

- The elevator scene between Candy and Marlin was a bit on the nose.

- The aftermath of Danny’s s****** attempt was underwhelming. I understand why his attempt was important in the show as in his mind everyone, including the one that gave him hope (Rya then his mom) failed him. I think Ariana coming in was great…However, going from that to Jack on the hospital bed kinda fell flat to me. Idk.

- I WISHED TCR WOULD LET TOM’S PERFORMANCE DISPLAY WHICH ALTER WE ARE LOOKING AT AND WHAT IS GOING ON IN HIS MIND WITHOUT ALWAYS CUTTING TO THE BARN AND THE SPECTACLE OF IT ALL. I didn’t need to see Danny in a cage. I didn’t need to see Danny trying to reach out to Adam under water. From what I saw, Tom had it and didn’t need the heavy lifting. It even made it look a bit ridiculous to me at times. No offense abeg.

- The prosecutor on the verge of tears after seeing Jack/Adam/Danny’s scene on the stand when 5 mins ago she was convinced Danny was pretending. I don’t buy that 180.

- Was this enough to find him not guilty? I don’t think so though I’m glad they did?

- A lot of questions left unanswered. Feels like it needed 2 more episodes at least.

My grades:

- TCR: 7.5/10

- Tom Holland (the actor only): 9/10

- The executive producers incl Tom: 6/10

- The writers: 4/10

- Amanda: 7/10 (the writers screwed her)

- Sasha Lane: 9.5/10 (loved her in this)

Ok so I’m reviewing! (I wasn’t going to cause of how late I get off of work, but I couldn’t help myself!) and I’m nervous as shit, ok!:

Right off the bat, I can’t stand Danny’s mother. I understand Candy stuck in a certain position, but she chose to be with Marlin. You abandoned Danny the moment he came into the picture, and that was obvious. Especially when Danny told Rya that she was always looking for someone to save them. I know the time period makes it seem like it was right around the time women couldn’t even get their own bank accounts but women were a lot more independent in the 70s.

God Danny looked so pale and thin, my poor baby. The lengths actors have to go to for a role is crazy, they definitely need to be on strike to demand more. Back to Danny, he looks like a scared child

Every time I see Marlin, I wanna tear his throat out—Danny can’t even look at him. And then Danny ends up apologizing to Candy like he did something wrong when he’s the victim!

Angelo really up here lying on Danny, I’m surprised that his drug dealing ass even showed up and Annabelle, bitch, a whole liar! She knew that Bill bullied him, she just don’t wanna say it.

Stan ain’t shit; he doesn’t wanna be focused he’s over here popping pills and drinking. Glad Jerome testified, upset that this lawyer is pissing me off. She’s good at her job and it’s making me mad.

Candy is more worried about herself rather than her son, and that says a lot. She didn’t really know she was being used, and that’s even worse. You have Danny, who’s getting abused by not only Marlin, but his alters too. They use his body for drugs, sex, crime—all against his will.

Marlin is a sick twisted fuck and she’s gonna leave Danny to dry just because she’s scared of Marlin. She abandoned her kid to save herself. He got betrayed twice. And couldn’t even look at him. Now as far as the suicide attempt, I think that was Danny and not Jonny. Jonny knew, like all his alters, how this would go.

Candy is apart of that silent generation; they turn a blind eye to abuse and pretend it doesn’t happen—I do not feel sorry for her

I said it once and I’ll say it again, Jack need to kill Jonny off like he did Yitzhak. He gon end up doing something drastic, killing Danny which then kills the host body—then all the alters die!

What kills me is that Jerome and Rya are the only ones that didn’t lie on the stand—now that’s fucked up.
