There were good days, increasingly so and eventually Jann didn't feel as guilty for smiling again, racing around the track and enjoying the G-forces that clawed at his body. But there were the bad ones too, the ones filled with fear and doubt and anxiety, where his panic overwhelmed him and he found himself hiding in a closet or a restroom, his knees drawn into his body and his head placed in between them as he sobbed and gasped and tried desperately not to fall apart. It was Jack who found him, sat with him and breathed with him until he felt the pressure on his chest ebb a little and he could feel more than the ache of his pounding heart.

this was a fic that I started for Jann Mardenborough/Jack Salter from the new Gran Turismo movie, which is my favourite thing in a long time. I love reading all the Jann/Jack so I figured I would give it a try a couple times but never got anywhere with it.

“You didn’t have plans?” Jack asks. “I thought we were going to have another beer,” Jann says. “Then you came up here.” “I thought you might want to spend some time with your newfound fans,” Jack says. “Are you jealous?” Jann asks. Jack laughs and looks away. “Of who? You?” He makes a quiet noise, because he knows that’s not what he meant. Jann knows it too. Jack couldn’t possibly be any more obvious if he was trying. Fucking hell. How does Jann, this kid, get under his skin so much? “No,” Jann says softly. “I don’t think so.”

24 HOUR MARK. | jann mardenbrough x fem!reader

author: first jann work and it’s small but hopefully it’s good! any grammar errors are my fault and i’ll go back through and proofread if necessary! requested by @iiamkittyy !

summary: having to race sundown to sunrise takes a toll on the body, luckily jann has you there to take care of him.

warnings: fluff, talks of fatigue

“i need to switch with someone soon,” jann’s voice crackles through the headset. “might fuckin’ pass out.”

after you heard that, you looked to jack, silently asking him to listen to jann. jack could see you from his peripheral and sighed, “come in, jann.”

a minute later, jann’s car turned into the pit and he tumbled out the car, sweat pouring off his body. he ripped his helmet and mask off and stumbled towards you.

“jann,” you reached out to him. “fuck, baby. come sit.”

he reached you and practically laid his whole body weight on you as you laid him to rest on a chair near you. you unzipped his suit as to let some air get to him. “i don’t know how much more i can take.”

you looked up at a nearby clock and seen there were nearly 10 hours left. jann had raced 7 and a half of the 14 hours already raced. switching out with matty for a few.

“i know, jann. you’ve done well so far though, just breathe.” you patted his forehead and chest with a towel, rubbing your hand on his forearm. “let me get you some water.”

as you went to stand up, he grabbed your wrist. “please don’t go yet. i need a few more minutes with you.” he pulled you to sit on his lap, holding you close to him. “everything about this is excruciating.”

“i know, you made it this far though, you should be just as proud as everyone is of yourself. if you want to rest, then rest. you’re the strongest racer here, take your time.”

he nods his head, letting your words sink in. he grabbed your face, bringing you in for a kiss. you put your hands on his neck, letting the towel slide down on the floor.

before the both of you could pull away, you heard a throat clear behind you. “could you guys pull your lips off each other for a moment so i can make sure he’s okay?” jack sighs jokingly.

you both chuckles and you get up off jann’s lap, “i’m gonna grab you some water. just relax, my love. i believe in you.” leaving one last kiss on his cheek.

Jack saw for the umpteenth time how Jann was looking at the girl's photo and he couldn't take it anymore and asked.,, Who is that girl you stare at for hours every day." Jann slowly looked up from the phone, sighed and answered. "That's Y/N she has been my friend since we were in diapers.” he announced succinctly. Jack just snorted, "You don't look at your friend's photo for two hours a day." Something tells me that she's not just a friend to you." Jack's gaze studied Jan's expression, which stiffened considerably the moment he spoke the last sentence.,, Of course she's not just a friend, she's amazing and I've loved her for a long time, but I don't know how tell her." Jann blurted out. Years of suppressed feelings and desires surfaced. Jack put a hand on Jann's shoulder. "Well, we should get her to see your first race," the older man tried to encourage him.,, She can't come. Unlike me, she's still studying medicine at the university, she can't just pick herself up and go away for her to be with me." the young man replied with bitterness in his voice. Before Jack could continue the conversation, Jann got up and left.

Meanwhile, I was also sad at home, everything I saw reminded me of him. You missed him being gone for so long, although he called me every other day and I watched every one of his interviews, but it's not the same as when we talk live together. Suddenly my phone started ringing, I was looking for where I put it again. When I finally found it, I noticed an unknown number. I took the call.,, Hello this is Y/N L/N how can I help you." I announced formally in case it was a mistake. "Hello miss L/N this is Danny Moore from Nissan."

i have never been the kind of person to shame someone for their ships unless it was like illegal or just genuinely weird, but ever since I watched gran turismo back in August, I always found it incredibly fucking odd that people think Jann (a 19 year old played by Archie Madekwe) and Jack (the old ass 50 yr old mf played by David Harbour) had some kind of romantic chemistry...

Jann (the character) is based off the actual motorsports racer Jann Mardenborough, and the entire movie is based on a true story. I understand that in the movie that they're characters and they're mostly fictional, but do y'all ever get tired of shipping teenagers (idgaf that hes technically an adult, 19 is still a teenager) and grown ass people (40+)???

as somebody who likes reading age gaps where it's like 10 years, I see where you guys are coming from ig, but the age gap is always like character in mid twenties x character in late thirties. that's not even my point tho!! its that jack is meant to be seen as a mentor to jann, not a boyfriend or whatever y'all got pictured in your heads when you think of them
