Wednesday 100: Fairytales
An arranged marriage was never what Jamie had imagined for himself. His parents’ love was that of a fairytale, even before they’d lost Mam and Da’s stories of their life became more embellished every time he told them. He’d seen it in every kiss, every jest, every impassioned argument they had and he aspired to the same. When honor (and Dougal) called for him to marry Claire, part of him thought he’d have to give up that dream; then the cloak gave way to her gleaming dress and their eyes locked and he knew their own epic was already unfolding.

RoyJamie Recomendations — Works in Progress (Part 1)
à la mode by immordelle (Rating: Mature | Chapters: 2/7 | Words: 9,052 | Setting: AU | POV: Roy | Tropes: Getting Together | Warnings: Drug Addiction)
“Name’s Jamie Tartt, mate.” And there’s something about the way his eyebrows arch, the way his smile changes, slants at the corners with arrogance like he thinks he’s doing Roy a favor introducing himself — “I’m your new executive sous.” He’s dropped his hand now, and Roy half-wishes he’d taken it while he had the chance, because now they’re just standing there, sizing each other up in some demented, testosterone-fueled parody of a staring contest, and it’s horribly awkward. Roy grunts. “That’s weird, because I think I’d remember it if I hired a fucking thrift store mannequin to work in my restaurant.”
Attention-Seeking Behaviour by Anonymous (Rating: Teen and Up | Chapters: 2/6 | Words: 8,728 | Setting: Post-Season 1 Canon Divergence | POV: Alternating | Tropes: Angst with a Happy Ending, Getting Together | Warnings: Homophobia)
He’s about to get into the driver’s seat when another flash goes off right in his face and some smirky fucker says, “So, you like taking it up the ass?” “Love it,” Jamie’s mouth says before Jamie’s brain can get in on the action. “Feels fucking great. Have a good day!” Or: the post-Season 1 fic where, Instead of self-destruction via reality show, Jamie tries self-destruction via public and very messy coming out. It works out better than expected.
gonna take on the world some day by liesmyth (Rating: Mature | Chapters: 2/6 | Words: 11,255 | Setting: Post-Season 3 | POV: Jamie | Tropes: Getting Together | Warnings: N/A)
There’s a part of Jamie that’s still thirteen and awestruck, or seventeen and infatuated, or twenty-two and bitter and still fucking obsessed, that still can’t believe he lives in a world where he gets to have stuff like Roy Kent inviting him over for tea. Can’t quite believe this is his life. Jamie’s summer, and beyond.
have you ever thought just maybe (you belong with me) by sanazyung (Rating: Explicit | Chapters: 5/10 | Words: 37,360 | Setting: AU | POV: Jamie | Tropes: Angst with a Happy Ending, Getting Together, Mutual Pining | Warnings: N/A)
“Jamie. They want to have a season where the lead is openly bisexual, and they have men and women contestants. And they called me. Asking about you.” “Holy shit,” Jamie breathed, steadying himself against his kitchen counter. “They want me to be the fucking Bachelor?” or, jamie is the bachelor. roy is a contestant-but not by his own will. the world gets to watch them fall in love anyway.
Sign away your life at the door by PGHumfort (Rating: Mature | Chapters: 2/5 | Words: 13,148 | Setting: AU | POV: Jamie | Tropes: Getting Together, Hurt/Comfort | Warnings: Abuse/Domestic Violence)
In a world where everything is a distraction, his Master's thesis deadline is rapidly approaching and the pressures of academia are crushing, university student Jamie Tartt finds a unique safe space with a handsome broody man willing to help him get his work done, through positive or negative enforcement. At Nelson Road Cafe, incentives and coffee orders are customisable.

Time loop fic set during season 2 when Jamie’s back around but Roy isn’t coaching yet where it takes Jamie and Roy an embarrassing amount of do-overs before they finally realize they’re both caught in it because for days Jamie goes over to Keeley’s place and antagonizes Roy in basically the exact same way because he thinks making the same stupid old man jokes all the time is funny anyway and any slight changes in conversation he just assumes is because he showed up at a different time or worded his own end of the conversation a little differently but Roy’s still basically saying the same grumpy old man shit anyway
And Roy makes basically the same retorts every time because he stands by it and he assumes Jamie shows up at slightly different times looking for Keeley as a butterfly effect of his morning with Keeley being different but that there’s no escaping him showing up to be a little bitch at some point
And like they both sometimes tell people but not the same people on the same version of the day so Keeley individually thinks that both of them are losing it on different versions of the day before eventually they both mention it
And then on like day 5 of the same day over and over Jamie doesn’t show up and Roy is irrationally angry about it but thinks it must be somehow connected to the fact that he was acting absolutely insane with Keeley trying to explain what’s happening while she thought he was fucking with her and somehow that made her brush off Jamie and him not show up or something?
And it takes Jamie showing up at 100 and just tearing Roy apart and going on about what a dick he is (which isn’t unusual but isn’t how this routine goes) and weirdly fixating on how he was excited to meet Roy but then he ended up just being an old washed up prick that never even gave him a chance because Jamie figures he can just show up, yell at Roy for all the reasons he’s so fixated on being a little asshole with a grudge against Roy in particular to get it out of his system, and then never have to deal with any consequences of Roy finding out about the whole embarrassing having been a big fan and expecting it to be so cool to play on a team with him just to immediately get offended that Roy didn’t give a shit about him and his bullshit and so Jamie ended up hating him thing
But instead Roy just scowls at him and is like “that’s not what you’re supposed to say” and Jamie’s like “…what.” And Roy’s like I’ve done this day like ten times already and either I make Keeley think I’m certifiable first thing in the morning and you don’t show up or else you show up looking for her and then make the same completely uncreative old man jokes at me and Jamie’s like what the fuck I’ve been doing this same day over and over and you’ve been making the same shitty jokes that weren’t funny the first time over and over again
And Keeley’s just sitting there watching this like “Are you two fucking with me? I can’t believe you two got along long enough to plan whatever the fuck this is.” And honestly, the fact that she couldn’t imagine them ever getting along to plan this stupid joke and agree on it is the main reason she actually starts to believe them that time in an okay either I’ve completely lost it or you two are stuck in a time loop kind of way and when she starts going on about how every time loop movie there’s like a moral the person has to learn and maybe they’re both caught in it because they’re supposed to learn how to get along and be friends and Roy’s supposed to take Ted’s offer and that’s how Jamie finds out about the Ted trying to convince Roy to coach thing
But they’re both like fuck no absolutely not, that’s not it and I’d rather be stuck in this stupid fucking loop forever than voluntarily spend time with him let alone get along (as if Jamie hasn’t shown up to annoy him practically every version of the day and Roy hasn’t just been sitting there waiting for him every time) and then they actively avoid each other for like a week’s worth of versions of the same day before they start considering that Keeley might have been on to something but it still takes three more days of pointedly not seeking the other out and waiting for the other to give in first before they run into each other at Ted’s place anyway and finally start actually swapping information they’ve picked up from their loops and what they’ve tried changing to try to get out and discussing ways to try to get out of it while Ted’s just sitting there cracking jokes and making annoyingly similar to what Keeley said comments about how in time loop and body switch things it’s always that you have to learn to see things from another perspective and be nicer to someone you don’t usually see eye to eye with before you can get out (Ted doesn’t actually believe they’re stuck in a time loop though, he’s just going well weird hypothetical but I’ll play along if this almost certainly made up scenario is what it takes for them to have an actual conversation with each other)

Thankless: Of Ruined Holidays and Changing Hearts
Canon-compliant, showverse, missing scene(s). Oneshot.
Thanksgiving 1960 and 1772 - Frank's POV, then Jamie's.
Two very different husbands, two very different family dynamics, the same unexpected wrench in the holiday plans.
Tumblr media
1960 - Boston, Massachusetts
The phone rang just as Brianna was setting the table.
I shot Claire a warning look that went completely unheeded as she shouldered past me in a swish of silk and clacking heels. The instinct to call after her still rose to my lips after all these years; the knowledge that the breath would be wasted kept it there.
“Hello, this is Doctor Randall…”
Our daughter froze instantly, the last salad fork hovering inches over the placemat.
“How many? Nancy, slow down. How many wounded?”
Just like that, I watched the light drain from my twelve year old’s face. She masked it well, brave girl; unlike her mother, she had a talented poker face. Quietly and without fanfare, Brianna took the cutlery, plate and wine glass from the third place setting and returned them to the china cabinet.
I crossed the room slowly and laid a hand on her shoulder, heavy with unspoken understanding. It wasn’t the first holiday her mother had ruined with her selfishness, her pigheaded insistence upon putting career over family. Bree flashed me a wan smile and reached up to squeeze my fingers appreciatively.
“More mashed potatoes for us, huh?” She tried for levity, and would have pulled it off had she been trying to fool anyone but me.
“We won’t leave a single bite,” I promised sotto vocce.
Drawing in a breath through her nose and releasing it in a sharp sigh, Bree clasped her hands together as she turned back to the table. “Shall we? Or do we wait for her to come back in and—”
“Darling, I’m so sorry…” Right on cue, Claire appeared in the doorway to the kitchen, already slinging her purse over one shoulder, the car keys jangling in her opposite hand. “There’s been a terrible accident on the Longfellow Bridge—”
“Yeah, I’m sure there was. It’s always something, right?” Even I was surprised by the venom in Bree’s voice; day by day, the little girl eager to defend her mother’s choices was yielding to the dark cynicism of an adolescent. Normally, I would have chided her for taking a tone — it was unbecoming of a young lady — but I couldn’t deny that a part of me had been anticipating the day when Brianna finally learned to stand up for herself. It had been far too long that she’d dutifully shouldered the burden of her mother’s negligence.
Wounded, wide, golden eyes blinked twice before Claire took a half-step forward. “I understand,” she said with a physician’s practiced calm, “that it’s disappointing when I’m called away on the holidays. Trust me, this isn’t how I wanted to spend my Thanksgiving either.”
“So why are you?!” our daughter demanded, throwing her hands up and letting them flop back at her sides. “Why does it always have to be you? Why can’t the other surgeons take the call this time?”

Jamie had never given much appreciation to the way the summer sun filtered through the bedroom window in the mornings, casting the bed in a golden glow, until he had someone in that bed with him, as vibrant as the sunbeams that caught the breadth of colors in her wild curls.  His wife.

Of course they hadn’t been kissing! What a strange question. Though to be fair, their faces had been close and it probably could’ve looked like they were kissing from the distance that Jamie had seen them.
One of my favourite moments from Of the Northmost Winds and Skies by @jjackfrost aka how I cried for a Hijack fanfiction in 2022.
I honestly just want to say thank you to the author for bringing us such a wonderful story. I loved how in character everyone was, the slow burn was SO GOOD and the plot was a lot of fun to read! Also I'm still emotionally recovering from the last chapters and I'm blaming you because now I won't be able to watch RotG the same way.
Again, thank you for writing and posting it!

There’s a scene in Criminal Minds where an HR rep comes to give a presentation on sexual harassment in the workplace and it’s clearly based on actual behavior from Morgan and Garcia.
So now I’m imagining a similar situation with Roy and Jamie. All of Richmond AFC sitting through mandatory harassment training when the slide comes up of “Examples of Innapropriate Behaviour” and it’s like:
1. Asking coworkers to tie strings around their genitalia
2. Tying colleagues to a bicycle and yelling “mush”
3. Making employees repeat degrading remarks about their own appearance
And Roy’s just like:

If you would like to share more of the Sunday Snip (or anything you're working on) 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Thank you my wonderful friend. The basic premise is Jamie struggling during the Zava era and then being injured when they run the decoy play with Zava in the role of the decoy. I'm trying to find a good bit I haven't shared yet. I'll share more after the cut.
Right now, it's broken up into three chapters:
Jamie's POV from Zava through being injured in a match.
Ted's POV from the same time period.
Alternating POVs from the hospital after Jamie is injured.
1 and 2 are first draft finished but three needs a lot more (and might end up being split in two, you know how it goes!)
My problems so far are sticking the ending, and Ted's POV.
But for now, here is a snippet:
“Zava does not run decoy.” “You do now,” Beard said. “Let’s try it.” Jamie sighed. This was not going to go well. And it didn’t. Or it did fine enough, Zava ran through, attempting to draw the defenders. Ted didn’t give Zava the instructions he gave Jamie about wanting him to win an Oscar at the ESPYs. No, Zava got a well done. Jamie was so thrown off he’d missed the net completely on the first run-through. On the second, he’d hit the crossbar. By the third, when Jamie hit the post, he didn’t miss the frustrated looks from his teammates.  “Maybe we should have Colin do it?” Isaac suggested. “Jamie’s got this,” Roy said. “Jamie, you feeling alright today?” Ted asked. Like he gave a fuck.  “Yeah, sorry, Coach.” The 4 am training was catching up to him. Jamie attempted to go to bed at a reasonable time, but this week, he found himself staring at the ceiling most nights. By the fifth try, Jamie finally found the back of the net.  “Don’t worry, Jamie, not everyone can be Zava,” Zava said to him as he roughly clapped him on the back. His hand lingered a little too long for Jamie’s liking, though Jamie wished he had never touched him at all, and Jamie shrugged him off as if Zava’s hand had burned him. Prick.

RoyJamie Recomendations — Marbella (Part 1)
but i'm a fire and i'll keep your brittle heart warm by instantcaramel (Rating: Mature | Chapters: 1/1 | Words: 12,736 | Setting: Post-Season 2 Canon Divergence | POV: Jamie | Tropes: Angst with a Happy Ending, Getting Together, Hurt/Comfort | Warnings: Abuse/Domestic Violence, Depression, Suicidal Ideation)
It’s tough enough to get through the day while keeping up as much of the old Jamie as he possibly can before he’s just ready to collapse into bed and sleep for twelve hours. He just needs everyone to see that he’s okay. Maybe somewhere deep down he thinks if they believe it, he’ll start believing it. Maybe he just wants to be left alone. He doesn’t really know anymore.
chemistry til it blows up, til there's no us by instantcaramel (Rating: Mature | Chapters: 1/1 | Words: 6,555 | Setting: Post-Season 2 Canon Divergence | POV: Roy | Tropes: Angst with a Happy Ending, Getting Together | Warnings: N/A)
“Did you think you were the only person who thought Marbella was a good holiday spot?” Jamie grins. “Nah, I talked to Keeley. She said she dumped you and thought you might need company after I asked her where I should go.” or, jamie and roy fall in love in marbella, get married, split up, and figure out their shit.
maybe it's 'cause I'm wearing your cologne by Blackmustache (Rating: Mature | Chapters: 1/1 | Words: 9,130 | Setting: Post-Season 2 Canon Divergence | POV: Roy | Tropes: Getting Together | Warnings: Abuse/Domestic Violence)
"Keeley mentioned you had a spare ticket to Marbs. Said I should come and keep you company." "How did you-" "Top bird, that Kathy of yours. She had the tickets changed into my name in no time at all." Or, what happens when Jamie joins Roy for the trip to Marbella.
Underlying Sentiment by nottonyharrison (Rating: Teen and Up | Chapters: 1/1 | Words: 3,195 | Setting: Post-Season 2 Canon Divergence | POV: Jamie | Tropes: Getting Together | Warnings: Minor Homophobia)
Jamie’s been sitting in the BA lounge for half an hour when he starts to wonder if it’s all a stupid idea. Keeley’s, of course. Jamie had no part in it other than nodding and agreeing that yes, a few weeks of Spanish sun would do him well, and no, no he wouldn’t have to see Roy all that much because the villa’s huge, and okay he’ll let Keeley sort it all out for him, maybe if he could just flick Roy a wee text when he gets there that would be great, yeah? Roy gets some company for the summer. Insert shocked Pikachu.
we'll be a fine line by howdyrowdypartner (Rating: Explicit | Chapters: 13/13 | Words: 72,815 | Setting: Post-Season 2 Canon Divergence | POV: Alternating | Tropes: Angst with a Happy Ending, Getting Together, Hurt/Comfort | Warnings: Abuse/Domestic Violence)
When Keeley breaks up with Roy after his spontaneous plans to whisk her away to Marbella for the summer, he makes the trip by himself, intent on forgetting about the break up as best he can through as much booze, tapas, and sunshine as one person can manage during one miserable summer. The last thing he expects is for his car to break down during a road trip up the Spanish coast, where he finds none other than Jamie fucking Tartt - who fell off the face of the Earth after his stint on Lust Conquers All - working in a seaside bar. Post-season 2 AU where, after getting kicked off of Lust Conquers All, Jamie decides not to return to England or football.

I've had a fic idea kicking around in the back of my mind for a while where Ted and Beard give the team a safe sex talk.
Because these two came not just from coaching a whole different sport, but a whole different demographic college-age young men who grew up in the US, probably in red/conservative states. And in the US, especially red states, we don't get sex ed in high school. Abstinence-only is the norm.
The first time I got any kind of sex ed that wasn't preaching abstinence was in a college course where my professor had realized that this gap in our education, while sucking for us, also impeded our ability to understand some of the later material. She developed a sex ed course taught over two weeks or so.
In this vein, Ted and Beard realized while working with college students that their teams were lacking some vital info about things like STDs and consent. So they threw together a power point which they normally present at the beginning of a season, which is part of their getting settled ritual.
The original premise of this fic was something fun, comedic and fluff filled. Pure crack. I have done zero research on sex education in the K and other countries where the AFC Richmond players are from but I'm sure it's better than the United States because the bar is on the floor. Plus these guys are older and more experienced so the talk would be a refresher kinda thing. I was going to throw in a few paragraphs about how Ted and Beard made an effort to include talk about non straight sex too, for that to resonate with Colin. Maybe make this happen when Trent was shadowing Ted, or have Trent hear rumors and grill Ted about it like he did about Sam's birthday party.
But then, just now, it occurred to me that depending on the timeline, Jamie might still be there. So it's early season 1. Maybe just after the gala. And when Ted starts talking about how consent matters so so much, not just for the girl but the guy too, that brings up some...stuff.
Because they're talking about informed, enthusiastic consent. What counts as consent. Relationship dynamics. How you do it because you want to, not because you've been told by a partner or society that you should. Honestly might segway into asexual spectrum Jamie because my own asexuality colors my writing and interpretation of characters (Jamie being ace in sex-positive, likes to make his partners feel good vein, similar to how @zehwulf talked about evidence towards Ted being asexual) and also because I enjoy ace-ifying characters.
Anyway, the TLDR of it: I had a fun idea and now I'm thinking about Jamie Tartt's trauma. A normal occasion, in this fandom, I think.

Fic updates for the post-season 3 fic
I’ve somehow stumbled over the 50k words mark 🎉🎉🎉
Dani, who was previously Sir-Not-Appearing-in-This-Fic, somehow wormed his way in and is now appearing in this fic. And somehow this didn’t even dent my outline - he slotted right in like magic. Dani Rojas is life, but he is also magic
I just think it’s criminal that him and Jamie never got to cuddle so I will be fixing that thanks
Why is Nigerian food so hard to research?
Roy is doing both awful and great at therapy, which is definitely not a race
Isaac, Isaac, Isaac. You are a pillar a rock a man of great talents and mystery and I am just loving peeling your layers.
Colin Hughes really is just some guy, huh? (Crying about it)
No really, why is Nigerian food so hard to research
My toxic trait is that I cannot resist putting Jamie Tartt in little outfits. Yes he is depressed and in a self destructive spiral. But also *waves hands* outfits.
Sam Obisanya has a nemesis; former bully surprised and outraged to learn about it, thought he was the only one who was that big of a dick
Me @ Nigerian food blogs - please show me the forbidden spice blends and quit making my browser cry in JavaScript
Jamie’s outfits are plot relevant, actually
On a related note- Fuck James Tartt
Keeley Jones please stop stealing every scene challenge. you are cute as a button and you are going through some stuff but we have an outline to stick to and every time you show up the word count explodes
Except the one scene????? I need you to talk a lot for????? Girl istg
I know y’all like dog metaphors, but do you like them in a non-sexy way? Because i got a lot of that (this is shameless abuse of the making the team mascot into a metaphor ngl. Also that ‘How to be a dog’ poem really fucked me up)
Do I need to spend so much time looking up recipes? No. Am i going to? Yes. I find it very fun, and this entire fic is a shameless exercise of self-indulgence and gooey feelings and found family (and depression and self esteem issues and abuse and finally talking shit out) and I hope it’ll be worth it in the end
