i just too wanted to say that the two "second" leads really made this show and i hope the actor / actress get all the awards and prizes there are. (i e.g. don't think the two main leads could have done it.)

show would not have worked without their layered and empathetic (towards their characters) portrayal. the fact that at certain instances their characters actually seemed funny and approachable made the instances of abuse so much more jarring, scary, and real.

they were the standout in last night's episode.

i think my favourite scene was the dialouge in jail where MW truly seemed like he could not grasp or even begin to see his own hypocrisy and double-standard. it actually made me lol.

I Did Not Expect to Enjoy

I really just watched Parasyte: The Grey because I needed something slightly more interesting but still a background sound for me. Little did I know, from episode 2 onwards, this was going to be a tough drama to treat as background noise. I enjoyed it so much, I am even considering the movie (although not the anime, not because I hate anime, I just almost never watch them).

I did not like that first episode. However, looking at it with objective lenses, it was a passable first episode. It introduced the main characters as well as their distinctive characteristics, and it let its viewers know the premise of this drama. Unfortunately, it felt almost like a textbook introduction, not exactly boring but definitely monotonous.

However, things really did pick up from episode 2 onwards. The storyline built in a pace I appreciated. The action was definitely a huge win for me. Even the suspense and lacking comedy played well into Parasyte: The Grey.

I especially liked the arc of Junkyeong's thoughts towards the alien species. It was a good balance between her distrust and subsequent (albeit reluctant) trust. Good thing was, her distrust did not lead into a horrible tragedy like so many same-ish shows like to do. I only wished she wasn't so sarcastic to Heidi right till the end.

The friendship/relationship between Suin and Heidi along with Kangwoo with either of them was part of the reason this drama grew on me so quickly. Lets all be real, if it wasn't for Kangwoo, this drama would have been quite dry. If I thought Suin's life was sad (especially after that scene with Cheolmin), Kangwoo's life is equally as tragic.

I would have liked for more "happy ending" scenes but if there are plans for a second season, then I understand fully why there was a lack of "happy ending" scenes.

All in all, a solid Korean drama without the romance bullshit or a redundantly large amount of slow plot progression scenes.

An action crime film set in the 1970s in a small, peaceful village by the sea where two women get unexpectedly caught up in a high-stakes smuggling scheme.

It has a very slow build-up with endless scheming that makes it difficult to care. Especially since it's never really in doubt that the women will stick together in the end.

The sudden violent, brutal action towards the end also doesn't help.

While not realistic, the underwater fight at the end is at least interesting to watch.

i really like how unhinged they made jeong su-min in marry my husband. it goes beyond the classic "villain of the story" role.

it adds a lot of depth to her character, because her motivations are difficult to fathom, and the way she reacts to rejection/failure is fascinating. it's that contradiction between not being able to exist without ji-won (she follows her anywhere, like a shadow), and at the same time, trying to dim her light to extinction (which she ends up doing, when ji-won dies in the original timeline.)

honestly, hard to pull off, but the actress is killing it. she plays it like su-min is clinically unwell. if she could swallow ji-won whole to make sure she'll stay hers/stay with her forever, she 100% would.
