Things I Changed in my Ginga Rewrite
Inspired to put the changes in list form by @sketch-shepherd . Their rewrite sounds super cool!
Everything prior to GDW is the same, save for in GNG, where my OC Betty the German Shorthaired Pointer is present, though her being there wouldn't change much.
Shiroi Senshi Yamato and Ginga take place in the same universe, and Musashi from Yamato is Musashi in Ginga.
Years prior to GDW, Gin and Sakura had another litter, but lost them in a tragic accident. This explains why they had Weed, Joe, and Yukimura so late in life. However, one of their first puppies survives, and she pulls a Riki and becomes a strong leader in Hokkaido. She reunites with her parents in the Hougen arc.
More Ohu Veterans have kids. Smith and Betty have three pups: Ringo, Mizu, and Ace. Ringo is the main character of Rippana Ringo, my GDW rewrite. Hazuki, Jaguar, and Great all have pups that appear, and John's mate and daughter Jiyu and Tomoe appear as well. (Thanks to @wannabegamergirl100 kindly letting me use them for the rewrite!)
When Kaibutsu attacks, Smith and his family leave with Sakura. Along the way, Smith still loses his leg while saving GB, but Sakura doesn't get separated from him bc Betty and the others are with her. Plus, they meet Saheiji, who carries Smith to safety after he is hit and takes care of the others in his absence (because of this, she doesn't die and plays a major role in the rest of the series). Around this time, Sakura gives birth to three puppies, two of which are named by Saheiji, while the youngest is named by GB.
When Smith recovers, the group makes it to Koga and stay there for about six months. GB and Saheiji do not accompany them there, as Saheiji has his pack to take care of, and GB doesn't yet have the courage to leave Nero. Both join the group later on.
After six months, the group heads back to Ohu, meeting GB, Sasuke, and Mel on the way.
Lenny exists in this AU (though it mostly follows the anime), but still passes away.
Smith doesn't die, because Betty saves him.
Yukimura leads the mission to save Gin, not Weed.
Yukimura and Joe also aren't total jerks because they were raised by Sakura. Joe's a bit smart-aleck and Yukimura becomes slightly more violent after becoming best friends with Kyoushiro, but they're still good.
Yukimura and Joe also get their scars in different ways. Joe gets his back scar while fighting Blue, and Yukimura gets his facial scars in fights with Hougen, Thunder, and Lector.
Yukimura also lets Kyoushiro kill Teru's dad before the whole 'redemption' thing.
Thanks to Tomoe's existence in the rewrite, John doesn't die.
Tesshin is present for the Kaibutsu arc and onwards, and I went with his anime version that was never resentful towards the Ohu Army. He rules Ohu while Gin is in captivity, and never lost his position as Gin's heir.
Sniper is omitted from the Hougen arc. No big reason why, just didn't want to change the anime storyline enough to add him in.
George still comes in tho.
His role in teaching Gin's children the Battouga is replaced by my OC Ayame, whom Tesshin rescued in their youth. The two of them are mates.
Jet and Missile live, because Gin's surviving daughter Inazuma rescues them.
Alas, Chutora's sons, John's helpers, Tokimune, and Toube do not survive.
Gin is rescued by Inazuma's followers earlier on.
Thunder and Lector are killed at the end of the Kyoushiro mini arc, and the Foxhound Spies take their role from there. Weed still throws a tantrum when the Foxhound Spies get killed, but he does not have the authority to throw Jerome out, so he leaves instead. Sakura finds him and drags him back shortly after. He's still salty until the end, when he finally apologizes for his behavior.
Gin kills Hougen earlier on, and Kamakiri takes over as the main villain. Kamakiri is killed by Tesshin, and Stone takes over before being killed by Hiro. Then the three generals take over, but are defeated and convinced to switch sides.
Gin still retires at the end, but gives his leadership to Tesshin instead.
Currently on the Monkey Arc now. Saheiji is not paralyzed and is still the leader, so he makes peace with Gozaru's group.
GB is replaced by Ringo in the Monkey arc. Nothing against GB, he's just out visiting Inazuma during the beginning, so he isn't there to be brought along. (Yeahhh Inazuma and GB miiight be a thing)
