Is the Hellboy fandom alive??? I wanna do some damn Hellboy 1x1 rp. Like the Del Toro versions of the characters.
Canon x Canon only, please. I can play almost anyone!
My profile has a pinned post that contains my rules and boundaries. I’ll say right here: I only roleplay with those who are 18 or over. I’m 18, 19 next month. So, no minors!
Some themes for the rp would be fun, like Christmas-themed or something like that. As long as the plot can carry its weight and stay interesting!
Au’s are fine! I actually have a few! I have a Pokémon AU in development and I have an Atla Au as well.
Ships I allow (rare pairs included):
Liz x Hellboy (Can play either, most experienced with Hb.)
Hellboy x Myers (Can play either.)
Liz x Myers (Needs a strong plot or won't be very interested, can play either.)
Abe x Nuala (Can play either)
Myers x Nuada (Can play either, Nuada preferred.)
Abe x Nuada (Can play either, heavy Nuada pref.)
Nuada x Hellboy (Can play either.)
Krauss x Abe (Abe preferred.)
Nuala x Abe x Krauss (Abe or Nuala pref.)
Liz x Hellboy x Myers (Can play any.)
Agent Clay x Hellboy (Can play either.)
Clay x Myers (Can play either.)
Clay x Hellboy x Liz (Can play any.)
Clay x Hellboy x Liz x Myers (Can play any.)
Matlin x Prof. Broom (Can play either.)
Ships I do NOT allow:
Nuala x Nuada
Abe x Hellboy
Kate Corrigan x Liz (Thats like her mom, okay)
Broom x Hellboy (be so fr with me, who ships this?)

Hellboy Headcanons ❤️ (How Much Drywall Can You Fit In A Bag of Cool Ranch Doritos Before They Notice)
Tumblr media
Hellboy
• About 60-70% drywall. At first he just assumes the factory standards for Cool Ranch Doritos have escalated over time. He’s been around as long as Doritos have been around, and like most things, they just don’t make them like they used to.
• For that reason, all the way from 0-50% he doesn’t notice at all. The flavor dust masks the drywall taste enough for him, and his teeth are sharp enough to bite through the drywall texture. He just assumes he got a few dud chips at first, but still assume they are in fact chips and not drywall.
• But when the bad chips outnumber the good, things finally start to add up, and he takes a closer look at the chips.
• He knows it’s drywall. But it’s the best damn drywall he’s had in his life, and a little drywall won’t kill him if supernatural beings can’t either. He finishes the bag.
Tumblr media
Abe Sapien
• Immediately notices the second he opens the bag.
• Abe is alarmed straight away that someone would try to give you drywall Doritos, and although he appreciates the thought, he would really really like to know who you got the Doritos from in order to prevent something awful from happening…and keep the medbay as empty as possible for once this week.
• He would be concerned for you when you explain that you got these drywall chips yourself, and advise you that consuming drywall is neither delicious nor nutritious. Not to mention the gastrointestinal blockages and silica poisoning that may result from making a long term habit out of eating drywall.
• After you explain that they were meant for him from the very beginning and you had no intention of eating drywall, just making HIM eat it, he would be quite reasonably unsettled that you would try to do something like this to him. But Abe would do his best to very gently ask you to please not deliberately try to feed him drywall again, or anyone else.
Tumblr media
Johann Krauss
• Lmao he can’t eat Doritos to begin with, so he just assumes it’s either an innocent yet sincere gesture or a cruel joke when you offer him a bag of Doritos.He certainly hopes it’s the former.
• He opens the bag after you insist he does, and just. Looks at the poorly disguised chip-shaped triangles of drywall covered in flavor powder. He KNEW something was up with the bag even before it had been opened.
• Johann realizes that you had spent time out of your day cutting up drywall into chip-sized pieces, mixed them in with Doritos, carefully re-sealed the bag to make it look like it had never been opened in the first place, and bought the materials to do so with your own money to begin with.
• But you made one fatal oversight that revealed your plan to him the second the bag was placed in his hands. It was the amount of chips. The bag was full of both the original contents and the new drywall chips, which left no room at the top for the sizable pocket of air that all chip bags come with.
• Trying to give drywall Doritos to the only man in the BPRD who is physically unable to eat or taste food is not severe enough of a misconduct to report to Manning.
• But yes. He does think you are very stupid.

Quote
[In "Transgressive Circulation" by Johannes Göransson] he discusses how a pervasive anxiety about poetry itself—long viewed as a “pure” form, a distillation of an essence, an unmediated expression of the poet’s subjectivity—has fomented distrust of translation in the US literary milieu. He also explores how the US canon has privileged a handful of recurringly-translated poets (Neruda, Paz, Tranströmer, Rilke) rather than encouraging the rich, energetic destabilization of other foreign writers whose work can’t be contained within the US American comfort zone. In the end, Göransson characterizes poetry and its translation as a crucial contaminant, an exuberant, transformative life force that disrupts long-prized ideas—ideals—of genius, individual authorship, literary lineage, and intellectual property. I think he’s right. Translation makes poetry vulnerable to the possibility of foreign influence. It makes it harder to distinguish the host from the guest.
Robin Myers, from her essay “Hosts and Guests”, published in Words without Borders, December 15, 2022

The Wheel of Time Rewatch/Reread Pt. 1
Tumblr media
The Wheel of Time debuted on Amazon in November of 2021 and the reaction to it was, I think it would be safe to say, decidedly mixed. In general, it was well-received enough to get another season pretty quickly (and now it's earned a third season as well) but fans of the books were not pleased. (To the point where some of them earned the moniker of 'Bookcloaks' on various Wheel of Time subreddits and other places online.)
My fandom growing up was Star Trek, so I think because of that experience, I tend to grade shows on a fairly generous curve. (Every Trek Fan knows that it takes a Trek show three seasons to 'grow its beard' and get really good-- I don't know if that pattern is holding with the newer shows, but certainly, this applies to the '90s run of Trek.) Given that, I was fairly agnostic on the First Season of The Wheel of Time-- I thought some of the criticism was fair but didn't quite understand why people were so vociferous about other aspects of it.
After the end of the 2nd Season, I got curious and decided I would embark upon a closer examination of the source material while I re-watched the show. Since the first season covered the first book, The Eye of The World, that's what I started with. (I also re-read New Spring as well.)
My general hypothesis is this: Maybe Season 1 isn't that good because Eye of the World isn't the best book in the series?
Upon reflection, I don't think that's a fair assessment of either the book or the first season of the show. There's a lot the show does really, really well- but reading the book shows where the gaps in the first season are obvious and even, perhaps, detrimental. People who object to the First Season aren't wrong-- there were some things I objected to, especially in the last episode. But I also think we have to acknowledge the constraints showrunners are forced to operate under as well.
Amazon, for whatever reason, is putting the lion's share of its money into The Rings of Power. Would I be happier if The Wheel of Time had their budget? I sure would. But the two bigger constraints are to make a television show for people who have read the books and the people who haven't AND only having eight episodes to work with. The former is something every adapted work has to deal with, the latter explains the compressed storylines of the first season far more than the former.
So, let's talk about what the first season gets right:
I like that they hit the ground running. It takes a while for the book to get started- though in a mild defense of The Eye of The World, a lot of the front part of the book really sets up more plot threads that pay off further in the series than you realize a first.
Padan Fain (Johann Myers) is perfect. No notes there-- though it would be nice if he was a little more cracked and broken by the end, but I like him and, more to the point, I like that he keeps showing up- sometimes even just in passing.
The Whitecloaks are also absolutely perfect right from the jump and they are menacing, they are dangerous and Valda's casting (Abdul Salis) is also absolutely perfect.
The Tinkers are excellent. So is Thom (Alexandre Williams)- when he tells them about his nephew Owyn, that's more or less straight from the book. More perfect casting: Loial (Hammed Animashaun), Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okwendo)
The Ways work really well- they track very closely to what goes down in the book. They're not in The Ways as much, but with their 8 episode limit, things are compressed- I get it. Machin Shin is really well done- Nyn's Super Saidar I do have an issue with, but we'll get to that in a bit.
I do like that the show expanded the role of Logain (Alvaro Morte) a bit right off the bat. In the book he's referred to and Rand catches sight of him in Caemlyn but that's all we see of him until much later. I like that the show demonstrates just how destructive his army has been and how they portray his madness as shadowy figures whispering to him.
So what fits with the books better than the show?
It's been a while since I've read Eye Of The World, but there's an EARLIER chapter that is like when they're kids and Tam tells them the story of the Dragon? I don't remember it at all also: Egewene has sisters which is something I don't remember at all. But the original prologue where we see Lews Therin destroy himself: still slaps. 10/10 way to open this book. (I don't know if the Prologue to the Prologue was something they added in later editions or what, but it's weird and seems redundant to me.)
If you've read quite literally any other fantasy novel, the early chapters are chock full of loosely concealed references. They're waiting for a festival to start- someone is late and is bringing fireworks? They're a ring and a birthday party away from Bilbo's bash in the Shire. Similarly, the black figure in the cloak has to be from The Belgariad. Eddings might have taken that from somewhere else, but that's where I recognized it from. (The show plays with this too: their pursuit def looks like the flight to Rivendell from The LoTR movies.)
The books have Lan and Moiraine concealing their identities-- whereas the show has them revealed right away. I think the book does that better, but if you don't want to piss around with character development and just get down to brass tacks, I can see making the choice the show made. But the book does it better. With Moraine facing down the mob? ("Is this what Aemon's blood has come to?") Thom is also introduced from the jump, which I like and I love that he recognizes Moiraine right away and doesn't want to have anything to do with her.
13 chapters we spend in the Two Rivers-- nearly 25% of the book and far more than I remember, but it's worth it. Winternight is really what gets you hooked as a reader. That sense of isolation as Rand is trying to get to the safety of the village of being alone in the wilderness and hearing Tam's fever dream letting his parentage slip.
The journey out of the Two Rivers which in the book leads to Caemlyn and not Tar Valon is remixed and reorganized but lays the plot threads for things like the Aiel (in the mining camp) and Birgitte (when they stay in the barn and kill the Fade) and while in the books we meet Bayle Domon in the first book, he do show up in the television show right at the start of season two. I get that they have time constraints they need to work with, but missing Whitebridge in the show is big for me. After Shadar Logoth in the books, there is a profound uptick in the pace of the book. Perrin and Egwene are running. Mat and Rand are running. Lan, Moiraine, and Nynaeve are running. Those chapters really hit home in the books, the impact of them is lessened here.
But what the book does have that the show doesn't is so much foreshadowing. The World of Dreams doesn't get explicit until Book 3 or Book 4 territory, but it's right there in Book 1, even if we don't know what to call it yet. We see references to the Giant Fist on Tremalking, which we see used to cleanse saidin much, much later in the series and we get references to the Panarch's Palace in Tanchico that pays off down the road as well. Rand is also unconsciously channeling now and again throughout the whole book and if you read it again, it's kind of obvious.
Nynaeve's relationship with Moiraine is far more hostile in the books-- she's not a huge fan of the show either, but it's coded as far more hostile in the books which tracks better with what we know about Nynaeve's block and her ability to channel. Her Super Saidar and Egwene's bringing Nyn back from the dead at the end of the show are the things I objected to the most. At no point in the books does channeling work that way and more importantly, it's inconsistent with the show itself as no other Aes Sedai shows even a fraction of the ability the possible exception of Moiraine and the lightning/fireballs against the Trollocs. I get that Nyn and Egwene are supposed to be strong- maybe the strongest potential Aes Sedai in centuries in the books, but they're not that strong.
The 'Perrin Kills His Wife' thing is also not nearly as bad as it appears to be in the show-- if you dig into the books a bit. you'll get to the chapter where Egewene, Perrin, and Elyas are trying to outrun the ravens-- there are so many of them that they will be torn apart if they're caught. In the books, Perrin is presented as being very aware of his capacity for violence- he's a big kid, but for the first time in that chapter he has to contemplate if he would kill Egwene to spare her from being torn apart by the ravens. It's kind of the inverse of what they do in the show: there, they establish his capacity for violence/temper/to kill and his struggle is fighting that. (Though he has far less interaction with Hopper in real life than I remembered-- and to the show's credit, they bumped Hopper's death to Season 2.)
I am also thoroughly unbothered by the Siuan and Moiraine of it all- again, Sophie Okwendo was perfect casting and she uses the required fish metaphors "Skin me and salt me!"- the main series nods to the notion with all the talk of 'pillow friends' but New Spring goes a step further and straight up makes it explicit: "Siuan wanted to kiss Moiraine. So she did." Also, just look at a map of Tar Valon, then go look at some Georgia O'Keefe paintings, and then come back and talk to me. Extrapolate accordingly and if this is the hill you choose to die on with the first season of this show, I can't help you.
The first time through, I had a big problem with the Oath of Fealty that Siuan makes Moiraine take. It's subtle, but Siuan makes her swear fealty to 'the judgment of this seat' which is different and doesn't, to me, imply absolute obedience to the Amyrlin. It does what the show needs it to do- which is to kick Moiraine out of Tar Valon and make sure she can't come back. BUT, Moiraine changes the words of her reply? Does that still bind her? I have questions about this because at the end of Season 2 it looks like an awful lot like Compulsion-- I think that's going to be used against Siuan when Elaida takes her down, but I also think the show kind of made a hash of it all. (Also: what's with that secret passageway thing to the hut? Is that Travelling? I have so many questions!)
The show does get some world-building in that I think is important-- I think exploring what it's like when Warders lose their Aes Sedai is important. I think having white be the color of mourning and the whole funeral sequence was really, really excellent- but not at all in the book.
The struggle with Ishmael (great casting, again!) also tracks really well with the books-- The Last Battle in the books ends up being a very cerebral, inner struggle type of affair, it's an unseen fight and the show sets that pattern as well, even if Rand doesn't realize who Ishmael is quite yet.
The show, I think, misses The Eye of The World. I love The Green Man and how The Blight is portrayed in the books far more than the show and the show is wrong in that the Dark One's prison isn't at the eye.
Little Internet Birdies seem to be convinced that we're getting Queen Morgase, Gawyn, and Galad next season-- but the sequence in Caemlyn is really excellent in the book. At this point, you've already heard about ta'veren from Loial, but meeting Elayne, the Queen, Elaida, Gareth Bryne-- all of that is Rand being ta'veren like crazy and would have been an awesome thing to include in the show.
Moiraine and Lan's relationship in the first season also makes what happens in the second season seem profoundly bizarre. She references not being able to see men's weaves but doesn't actually make that jump until late in the second season and it takes Lan to figure that out? Seems contradictory to me-- she also tells him at one point: "Your losses are mine and mine yours" but then proceeds to shut him out for most of season two? So weird.
The show also dances around "Who could be the Dragon" way too much-- the idea of "five potential Dragons" is something that I get that has to squarely aim at new viewers who hadn't read the books, but it got tiresome, especially since it became pretty obvious who it was- good television practice probably means you want to make that reveal a big moment for the show, but it just didn't work for me.
If you're making this show, you want to balance between new viewers and book readers-- they cannot make a television show that requires people to do homework. Hopefully, they can build a world that inspires people to go and read the books, but if you've read the books already that's a tough thing to accept. So I get the unhappiness, but only to a point. My verdict stands: the First Season was better than people give it credit for, given the constraints they were operating under. At the time, it earned my confidence enough to give a second season a chance and that season was a vast improvement over the first. I'm onboard and ready to go for Season 3.

SMART Tales: Crafting Global Solutions through Creative Narratives
Blog 1 - February 16, 2024
In the initial exploration of the Technopreneurship 101 course, we engaged with the inaugural video featured on the Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology's Facebook page. The video emphasizes the establishment of a self-learning environment, fostering student engagement through hands-on experiences. In this setting, the instructor facilitates direct interaction with problems, empowering students to make independent decisions and learn through real-world competition dynamics.
Tumblr media
On our first group activity, we were assigned to present ES 302 Game 1, where the team members underwent the 3-12-3 Brainstorm, 5 Why's, and Plus/Delta activities centered on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which target the resolution of pressing global challenges such as poverty and inequality by the year 2030. After exchanging ideas and perspectives, we decided to focus on SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, which mainly focused on the problem "Excessive Plastic Waste Generation: Why Does This Happen?" that is relevant to our community and which we believe is applicable to our program, which is Mechanical Engineering.
Following careful consideration, implementing a comprehensive strategy that includes regulatory measures, consumer education, support for sustainable business practices, circular economy initiatives, and stakeholder collaboration is critical to addressing the root causes of excessive plastic waste and encouraging responsible consumption and production in the local community.

Furthermore, our lecturer suggested that we take the Myers & Briggs Personality Test, an online tool for identifying individual personality types. This test was not simple, but it helped me understand my personality. I was categorized as an INFJ-A. This classification spoke to me strongly since it emphasizes characteristics such as introversion, intuition, feeling, and judgment. Many INFJs believe that their lives have a special purpose—a mission that they were born to complete. For them, one of the most satisfying aspects of life is seeking out this purpose and then attempting to fulfill it.
"Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and you help them to become what they are capable of being."-Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Beginning the first week of this course was like walking into a whirlwind, seeking not only a thorough understanding of technopreneurship but also the cultivation of an imaginative mentality to handle community concerns. I am doubly motivated to use my engineering knowledge, although the weight of this undertaking appeared to be like a huge mountain. Still, within the challenges, a thrill and sense of oneness emerged, established through teamwork and the collaboration of our diverse journeys.

Lurking in the Dark
Chapter 4: A Warm Welcome

Liz watched the cameras with bated breath, watching as the shapes moved across the screens.
"I'm sure they're fine," John comforted, giving her a small smile. But she didn't turn her head in acknowledgement.
"You saw how big that thing was, John." She shook her head, eyes fixated on the screens. "And you know how HB is, I don't want him to get cocky and try to fight it,"
"Agent Sherman?" Johann's voice came through her comms.
"Yes?"
"We found where Agents Granites team was attacked and we found a possible suspect,"
"A suspect? That deep in the sewers? Who-" Liz's brow furrowed, finally pulling her eyes away from the screens to look at John. He had a similar confused expression.
Before Liz could answer, the Agents outside of the truck started to talk louder, rushing around outside.
John and Liz stood, opening the truck doors and seeing Red and Abe approaching the truck. They were covered in sewer water and mud, but uninjured.
"Oh thank god...." Liz happily mumbled under her breath.
"Hey, Babe!" Red raised his stone hand, waving with a happy smile. "Guess who we found!"
He moved to the side allowing the others to see past him. Walking with a tote bag tossed over their shoulder was Ryan.
Liz laughed, rushing out of the truck towards the three of them. Ryan laughed, dropping her tote bag and picking up Liz in a big hug.
"Ryan! It's so good to see you!" She happily laughed, embracing her old friend.
"Oh, Lizzie, I missed you too," Ryan purposefully spun them around so she could look at Red. They smirked, wrapping their arms tightly around Liz's back, holding her close. Ryan winked.
Red rolled his eyes, stepping forward.
"Wait, what were you doing in the sewers anyway? I thought you were taking a break from missions and investigating stuff?" Liz pulled away, still smiling. Red came up behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist.
"It's a long story, but short version, I live there," Ryan's smile fell, putting their arms on their hips.
"You live in the sewers? How-"
"Convenient." Johann came around the side of the building. He had come to the surface before Red and Abe and yet had just rejoined the group. "Now, let's all get back to HQ, we have some tests to run,"
The disdain was thick in his automated voice as he heavy stepped past all of them. Liz glanced at Ryan, then at Red.
"You're staying with us?" Liz asked.
"Yup, just for a little bit," Ryan picked up their tote bag, slinging it over their shoulder and walking towards the truck. The others followed close behind. "The boys practically begged me to help them with the case, and I have nothing better going on,"
"Hey, I did not beg," Red corrected, squinting and holding up a defensive finger. "I asked, politely,"
Both girls giggled at that, not turning to meet his eye.
"Oh, Ryan, this is Agent John Myers," Abe stepped in front of them when they got to the truck. He motion to John who was talking with Johann. "Agent Myers, this is Ryan, an old Agent and friend or ours,"
Johann quickly turned away, walking to another group of agents. John cleared his throat and held his hand out.
"It's nice to meet you," He was shocked by their strong grip.
"You as well,"
"Okay, everyone, load up, we're heading back!" Johann shouted. The agents quickly packed up the weapons, gear, and everything else they had packed.
"Can't wait to see how HQ's changed," Ryan smirked, stepping past John and into the back of the garbage truck.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Damn, this place looks...the exact same," Ryan spun in a circle, looking around the main lobby.
"We changed some things," Liz commented, coming to stand beside them. "Come on, I'll show you to your old room,"
Ryan nodded, adjusting their tote bag and following Liz down the hall.
Red looked to Abe, waiting for him to be done debriefing the other agents. Once the agents had left for the labs, he approached Abe.
"How you doin', Blue?" Abe had a folder in his hands and was reading it and walking to the library. Red stayed right at his side, lighting a cigar.
"I'm well, how about you? I'm assuming you miss be in pain from being dragged in-"
"Not what I meant," Red interrupted, puffing out smoke. Abe glanced at him, closing the folder.
"What did you mean?"
"Oh come on, Blue," Red stopped walking, Abe turned to face him. "The Ryan thing,"
"What Ryan thing?" Red scoffed, glancing around to make sure no one was listening.
"C'mon, Abe. You kissed her,"
Abe sighed, shoulders slumping, turning and walking back to to the library.
"It's wasn't that kind of kiss," At Red's scoff he continued. "We thought we weren't going to get out of that trap, and yes we did kiss, only once, but...it...it..." Abe trailed off, not looking to Red.
"What, was it a friendly kiss?" Red rolled his eyes, following him as closely ad he could with his sore leg.
"Yes, exactly," Abe agreed.
"That was sarcastic, Blue," Red took a large step, coming right up to his side, nudging his shoulder. "You don't friendly kiss someone when you think you're going to die,"
"Maybe you don't," Abe sassed back.
"Fishstick!" Manning rushed down the hallway, cutting off Red's snide remark. "Er, both of you, Mr. Krauss has called a meeting and wants you both there," He was out of breath and panting loudly.
"Alright, let's go see what the gas bag wants," Red rolled his eyes. Manning nodded, turning and rushing down the hall to the meeting room.
Before rushing after Manning, Red turned to Abe.
"We'll continue this conversation later,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So, there's got to be another reason as to why you decided to come back," Liz commented, sitting on the edge of Ryan's bed.
The room was small with concrete walls and floors. But instead of it being a square room, it was circular. The left wall was complete stone, and her bed was pushed against it.
The other wall was large glass panes with thick iron frames that lead into a personal pool area.
"You want the truth? I missed you guys, I missed this place," Ryan smiled, looking around at her room.
"You said you're living in the sewers, why?" Liz asked softly, Ryan sighed, sitting next to her.
"My landlord kicked me out, I had nowhere else to go, that's why I accepted, especially with that croc on the loose."
"You know the crocodile?" Ryan cleared her throat, looking forward.
"I don't know know him, he won't talk to me, he's crazy and unpredictable, he even..." Ryan took off their jacket, rolling up the sleeve of their shirt and revealing a large bite mark on their arm.
"Oh..." Liz's eyes widened. Their whole right forearm had large scars going all around it. They were still pink and swollen, only haven recently healed.
"Yeah, that thing's not normal," Ryan's voice was thick, teeth gritted as her fingers ran over the scars.
"I'd have figured with your powers, you'd be able to stop it," Liz raised a brow. Ryan cleared their throat, turning away momentarily to put their jacket back on.
"I did too," Liz opened her mouth to ask another question when her comms device went off.
"Agent Sherman, I'm calling for a meeting in the laboratory with the tooth, please hurry,"
"Guess we better go," Ryan smirked and they both left the room.
Ryan glanced back at their old room, clutching the doorhandle, thinking back to older memories. She sighed, pulling the door shut tight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Thank you all for coming," Johann said once everyone was in the small lab room. Even though he didn't have eyes, he was glaring daggers at Ryan.
"Is that a tooth?" Ryan mused, leaning forward, hands in her jacket pockets.
"Yes, it came from the huge crocodile in the sewers that attacked Granite and his team," Abe said with a nod.
"The same crocodile that just so happens to live in the same sewer as you, Agent Ryan," Johann hissed, clicking his metallic fingers on the tray in front of him.
"That's strange, crocodiles don't normally loose teeth like this, it looks like it's been pulled out," Ryan stepped forward, picking up the dish the tooth was in. Johann grew irritated that she ignored his statement.
"Wait, what do you mean pulled?" Liz asked, crossing her arms.
"It's not uncommon for animals to loose some teeth if they've been fighting or something, but this is a front tooth, like from right at the edge of the snout, these ones don't just fall out. Also, look at the indent on the side their," She held the dish so the others could see. "There's a small chip there, looks like a knife or something knocked it straight out of the crocs mouth,"
"It's quite peculiar how much you know about crocodiles Agent Ryan," Johann plucked the tooth from their hands and set it back down on the table.
"Well it is kinda in my job description," Ryan mused, earning a chuckle from Red and Liz.
"Pardon?"
"What Ryan means, Sir Krauss, is her powers, she can communicate with animals, and even has some animal abilities," Abe answered, giving Ryan a small smile.
"Animal abilities? Like what?" Johann crossed his arms, lowering his head towards Ryan, prompting her to answer.
"I can breath underwater for an extended period of time, I have excellent hearing, and a sense of smell. And I can grow some limbs or a tail if so desired. And I also have night vision,"
"Hmmm," He uncrossed his arms and peered back down at the tooth. "I believe-"
"Mr. Krauss!" Before Johann could answer, another agent came bursting into the room, he was panting and sweating. "We need you upstairs, sir! Now!"
"Is everythin' alright?" Red asked, glancing at Abe and Liz.
"Uh...I'm not sure yet, but we just need Mr. Krauss up there as soon as possible,"
"Alright, we will continue this meeting tomorrow, you are dismissed," Johann walked around the table and followed the agent down the hallway to the elevator.
"'You are dismissed' what are we teenagers?" Red mocked his accent.
"You acted like one today in the sewers," Abe sassed.
"What? Oh, Red please tell me you did not fight the croc," Liz put her hands on her face, rubbing her temples.
"It attacked me first!" He counted. They bickering back and forth, yelling over each other.
"That's another thing you missed," Abe leaned over to whisper to Ryan, motioning to Red and Liz. "Them,"
"Oh, every couple fights, no big deal," Ryan spoke normally, getting their attention.
"Abe, did you tell her were together? I wanted to tell them about Red and I," Liz playfully smacked Abe's arm.
"Nobody told me it was obvious," Ryan gave a small laugh. "How many years have you guys been together, it must be like 5 now right?"
"5 years?" Red and Liz spoke at the same time.
"You think we've been together for 5 years? No it's only been a few months," Liz shook her head.
"This whole time you've known us and worked with us, you thought we were ready dating?" Red asked. Ryan simply nodded.
"It's was so obvious you guys liked each other,"
"Apparently not to them," Abe whispered to Ryan, both of them laughed for a moment.
"Oh, I missed you guys," Ryan sighed before leaving the room and walking back to their old bedroom.
Red chuckled, taking a step closer to Abe.
"That was funny, Blue. Especially since you're the one telling it, given it's so obvious you like them,"
"Red-" Abe started, not wanting Liz to know.
"Oh come on, Abe. It's so obvious...well to most of us," Liz interrupted with a smile.
Abe sighed.
The Black Lodge
The origins of the Black Lodge are somewhat mysterious. Most attribute the creation of the Black Lodge to the demon king Chernabog, also known as the Black Thing or the Dark One in his more incomprehensible forms. Chernabog is said to have created the Black Lodge as part of his effort to restore reality to its primal nonexistent state. He viewed the shadow of oblivion as superior to the light of existence and sought to roll it back. However, Chernabog also wished to punish those who ruined the ‘perfection’ of oblivion and thus made it so those legions that followed him in the Lodge proper would feed off of human misery and suffering. Of course, this is just one potential account of the origins of the Black Lodge. Nyarlathotep and his acolytes the Chaos Gods have also been accused of being behind the creation of the Black Lodge as a tool to further their ends. The existence of the counterpart the White Lodge has led to some to conclude that the Black Lodge simply exists to embody evil and came into being with the universe, along with the conceptions of good embodied by the White Lodge. People who believe this attribute the creation of the Lodges to a variety of figures—the Lord of Nightmares, the Black and White Guardians or the Forces of Law and Chaos being commonly attributed sources for them both.
Whatever the origin, the influence of the Black Lodge certainly is significant. The Black Lodge has drawn a number of followers in the material world to aid them in achieving their aims. The earliest known acolyte of the Black Lodge is the dark lord Morgoth, who terrorized Europe in the Hyborian Age. Morgoth was an immensely powerful figure and his acolyte Sauron likewise sought to spread the darkness of the Black Lodge before he was defeated by his enemies. While he was the first, he would be far from the last follower of the Black Lodge to terrorize the world. These figures could vary considerably in nature. The Order of Aurelius was formed by vampiric worshippers of the beings of the Black Lodge and sought to subjugate humanity to please them. The Black Lodge takes a major joy in corrupting people into vicious murderers-Leland Palmer, Michael Myers, Johann Liebert and Oh Sangwoo are but a fraction of those whom have, wittingly or unwittingly, been led to kill on behalf of the Lodge. A number of history’s evil magicians were acolytes of the Black Lodge as well, including Kulan Gath, Koschei the Deathless and according to some accounts Mordred. The dreaded Horned King, a widely feared necromancer, also is believed to have been a devotee of the Black Lodge. Many infamous dark magicians and evil witches have also been at least part-time devotees of the Black Lodge, including the Sanderson sisters, Amos Hacksaw and Pacha Camac. Their reach is not limited to Earth either, with their servants in the stars including the Shadow Galactica, the Sith and the Shadows.
The Black Lodge additionally sent residents of their realm to the world to corrupt it. The entity known as Pitch Black, for instance, was sent to corrupt the Shinto gods when they faced extinction at the hands of industrialization in Japan. The infamous Randall Flagg was long associated with various kinds of demons or even Nyarlathotep himself, but in fact is a servant of the Black Lodge sent to the Earth to terrorize the place. The species known as Minions are thought to have originated from the Black Lodge, though they took on a will of their own that has in more recent times drifted away from the goals of the Black Lodge. The shapeshifting spider known as Pennywise in its most notable incarnation is another servant dispatched to the mortal plane to carry out the Lodge’s bidding. Another species that is thought to have originated from within the Black Lodge are the Weeping Angels, a race of beings that feed off of futures that are aborted when they transport people to points in the past. The primary argument for their origins as servants of the Black Lodge is their feeding off of detrimental impacts they have and their otherwise mysterious nature. However, these claims have not been confirmed and may in fact be unable to be confirmed. The forces of the Black Lodge also are capable of feats of necromancy, with results ranging from the ghosts of the Overlook Hotel and the vengeful spirit of Elly Kenward to the serial killer Jason Voorhees and the reanimated Deadite hordes that have at times terrorized the world.
The inhabitants of the Black Lodge are to an extent surrounded in mystery in part owing to the apparent lack of clear temporal or dimensional boundaries for the Black Lodge and its inhabitants. Nonetheless some elements have been discerned. Within the Black Lodge are two powerful entities that may be the de facto rulers: the Scarlet (or Crimson) King and the King in Yellow. Both are generally malevolent, but at times war with each other for dominance within the Black Lodge. The Scarlet/Crimson King is associated with the color red and has a number of cults active on Earth. Many who encounter the Scarlet/Crimson King associate the Black Lodge with red rather than the typical black. The King in Yellow is not as flashy as the Scarlet/Crimson King, preferring to manipulate the world from the shadows rather than establish clear cults. Immediately below the Kings are the Lords in Black—5 entities claiming to be deities with powers over aspects of reality. Beneath the Lords are a number of demonic beings who can interact with the world via dreams and possession of humans. The being known as BOB is one of the most notorious of these beings, but others exist as well. The dream-walking serial killer Freddy Krueger is in fact a former prisoner of the Black Lodge who was granted powers after becoming a servant of theirs. Other examples of these inhabitants include the Obsidian Lord, Art the Clown, the Cenobites, the Babadook, the Violencia and the Voidbringers. The entity known as the End of the Cycle, responsible for bringing ruin on a galactic scale, has been alleged to be the joint creation of the Black Lodge’s two kings, though this remains unconfirmed.
The Black Lodge is not without opposition. Some of this opposition came from within the Lodge itself. The entity known as The Giant and the lone sister of the Lords of Black are two beings who originated with the Black Lodge and ended up defecting to the White Lodge. The White Lodge, ruled by Maturin the Space Turtle, is the main hub of opposition to the actions of the Black Lodge. The White Lodge operates in parallel to the Black Lodge in many respects, having its own chosen champions work to challenge the Black Lodge’s servants in their efforts to corrupt the world. These champi ms include Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which, the Ellimist, the Skull Knight and Zordon all have worked to advance the White Lodge against the Black Lodge’s own chosen champions. They have enjoyed several triumphs over the years-most notably totally taking control of the afterlife realms dubbed ‘the Good Place’ and ‘the Bad Place’ by inhabitants the two lodges had nominally cooperated to form. World affairs have at times been driven by this conflict-in the First World War, the White Lodge’s followers on Earth under the leadership of Cyril Grey backed the Entente while the Black Lodge’s aligned dark magicians under Heinrich Kemmler supported the Central Powers. The propensity of the Black Lodge to challenge the laws of time mean they often run afoul of those seeking to maintain a clear and consistent timeline. The Time Lords were often opposed to the Black Lodge prior to the Time War and the Time Baby has also frequently warred with the Black Lodge as well. Not all dark entities are aligned with the Black Lodge either. The being known as the Slender Man has been known to fight with entities of a known origin in the Black Lodge, despite also being generally malevolent. The forces of Hell also tend not to take kindly to the Black Lodge and view it as a threat to their plans, much like the Great Old Ones. The would-be Antichrist Damien Thorn at one point sought to carry out a ritual to cut the Black Lodge off from Earth before being thwarted by the Black Lodge servitor Slappy, a particularly humiliating event for Thorn as Slappy was an animate ventriloquist dummy. The Black Lodge also often struggles with the beings known as the Ancient Ones, who have their followers carry out ritual sacrifice using similar forces as the Black Lodge, but seek entertainment above suffering. The Ancient Ones often help their followers bind Black Lodge-connected entities to follow their rituals, thus putting them at odds with the more sadistic Black Lodge.
Insights from our lesson, group activity, and the personality test we take during our subject ES 302:
In our recent group activity, we delved into the intricacies of addressing global challenges through innovative problem-solving. Assigned with presenting ES 302 Game 1, our team embarked on a journey to explore the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their relevance to our community, specifically within the realm of Mechanical Engineering.
Our brainstorming sessions led us to focus on SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, honing in on the pervasive issue of "Excessive Plastic Waste Generation." This problem struck a chord with our team, reflecting a shared concern for our environment and a recognition of our capacity to effect change within our field. As we navigated through discussions and debates, it became evident that addressing such complex challenges requires a multifaceted approach. We recognized the importance of regulatory frameworks, consumer education, sustainable business practices, and collaborative endeavors in fostering responsible consumption and production patterns within our local community.
Moreover, our journey took an introspective turn as we ventured into understanding our individual personalities through the Myers & Briggs Personality Test. For me, being classified as an INFJ-T shed light on my intrinsic motivations and strengths. The emphasis on introversion, intuition, feeling, and judgment resonated deeply, fueling my commitment to seek purposeful endeavors in both personal and professional spheres. As Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe eloquently stated, "Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and you help them to become what they are capable of being." This sentiment encapsulates our collective aspiration to empower ourselves and others to reach our full potential, both as technopreneurs and as agents of positive change in our communities.
Reflecting on this course, I am invigorated by the challenges ahead and the opportunities for growth and collaboration that lie before us. While the path may seem daunting, the synergy of our diverse perspectives and the shared commitment to crafting global solutions imbues me with a sense of purpose and unity. As we continue our journey, fueled by creativity and determination, I am reminded that our endeavors transcend the confines of the classroom, resonating with the broader narrative of global sustainability and progress. Together, we are not just students; we are catalysts for change, weaving our stories into the fabric of a better world.
