Calvin Harris spoke out against TS in a series of tweets back in the day after breakup and said he wouldn’t let her bury him. Taylor quickly went quiet after that. Jake G. after this whole Red TV BS she pulled called her out in interview for letting her fans bully other people in her own name. Taylor also was very quiet after that. Joe J. back in the day said that he didn’t break up with her in 27 sec call, it was she who hanged up on him actually. John Mayer talked back in the day how her song was just cheap writing and attempt to attack him on her part when he was at his lowest. So no, many of her exes actually spoke against her behaviour and called her out for it. But they did it like once and went on with their lives, not turning it into some eternal victimhood narrative like TS usually does.

and look at them now. they’re all hated for reasons related to taylor as far as i know, they’re not as popular as they were. Joe J was never believed and he only experienced a comeback once the Jonas Brothers got back together. no one talks about Jake Gyllenhaal even if he has a movie coming out and if they do, it’s a very niche group of people. I haven’t heard anything about Calvin in years. John Mayer was in the toilet and he’s only somewhat coming back on the fringes but sntv just reminded swifties why they hate him. maybe they has okay careers out of the spotlight and they’re simply not mainstream anymore, but they were all on top of the world before dating her and fell off of it when they spoke up about her. she’s always going to have a boot on their necks as long as she needs their failure for her success.

Thinking about the deleted scene from the Tim McGraw video... I understand it's not THAT risque, but it feels odd for the time. Do you have any thoughts on that as a TS historian? Because as someone who has done my best to research (mainly with the help of blogs such as yours <3) I feel as though there was a slight push to make her *slightly "cleaner" during the Fearless era.

It feels like she "naturally" gained a good girl reputation during the debut era, and then when Fearless came around, she was REALLY pushing it. Like they talked about it in EVERY interview to the point where it did not feel genuine.

Then a lot of the long-form Speak Now stuff is either "waiting for her to crack" or, "huh, she acts like a normal person in their early 20s. What a novelty." The Vogue, and New Yorker profiles strike me as particularly prooding on the topic of her "good girl" rep. Like that whole part about her asking for cursing to be left off the record.

Red onwards, she definitely started portraying herself as more "adult" in a way that felt natural, and slightly less fixated on the "good girl" thing, until rep of course.

Long ask, I know. But I find it interesting as a topic.

i do think there was a shift in the fearless era where like. she wasn’t courting people her own age as much? like, debut era the narrative was like, “country album made by and for teenage girls” and then during the fearless era it kinda shifted into “america’s older sister taylor swift with her hordes of 8 year olds”. and i think part of that was just how the cookie crumbled (like, a, she is to a certain degree just kinda like that, and b, she dated a jonas brother and that’s gonna come along with some young fans) and part of that was a buisness decision to like, get on radio disney and do hannah montana, and then there’s the kinda in between stuff of inviting a bunch of kids to t-party. and with that marketing to young girls comes a push for a squeakier image.

i think the interesting thing about red is she starts really marketing herself to people her own age again. like, the harvey mudd performance is fascinating to me, because it’s the first time since like, those tour bus shows with debut that she was playing to an audience exclusively her age. and she’s funny as fuck! she’s charming and relatable, but in a way we rarely got to see her— she’s not making long speeches giving advice, she’s telling funny stories about the mistakes she made. and like, i love her long speeches of advice, but the harvey mudd concert has me so paradocial in a different way

Okay but 33 year old taylor singing never grow up? And then her singing 32 and still growing up now in innocent and in general her being older than the assholes that fucked with her life when she was 19 and singing about them knowing she survived all that and more and is still strong, stronger even then she was before and her singing about Joe Jonas now that their friends. Does anyone remember when the jonas brothers (well mostly nick) where teasing a ts collab like their life depended on it? I mean I think it was a joke, but you never know. (I also don't believe the rumours about Taylor Lautner being involved, but that would be so fucking iconic) Also WILL HER BREATHING IN LAST KISS LIVE UP TO ALL OF OUR EXPECTATIONS? (and is she now thinking about a different joe singing it?) And will she change the lyrics in better than revenge? (probably not right?) And if she doesn't will there be backlash (this seems like a bit of a losing game for her because either way someone might be upset). ALSO HER SINING LONG LIVE I'm going to cry everything I said about her being stronger now, but now it doesn't relate back to some stupid guy, but instead is about her fans and about her being afraid that her career wouldn't last, but oh how it lasted and now she is one of the biggest stars in the world, if not THE biggest and has millions of fans who love her just as passionately like they did back then and are just as crazy and look for Easter eggs and make the most beautiful costumes for her show and who cry to her songs (even sometimes the ones that aren't sad). She came so far since she wrote this album, but it remains one of her best ones being written all by her and having many absolutely incredible songs, seriously I would die for every single song on this album, she better finally give it the respect it deserves and then she'll ad more speak now songs to the set list and everything will be great!! I mean she has to add more songs right? It would be great promo and miss swift is a business woman. Also VAULT TRACKS? They're going to hit so hard I'm telling you!! Speaking of hitting, battle better be one of them. Oh my god and we might get new music videos and she'll probably make enchanted a single and it will have it's own video and will be number one and win a Grammy and an Oscar (I'm not sure yet how the last part will work, but it will happen!!) Also we've got to a speak now (tv) album cover?! OH MY GOD I'M FREAKING OUT, speak now is one of my favourite albums of all time and it might finally get the appreciation it deserves!
