The brilliant foreshadowing of Kalvier's flirty introduction
So everybody remembers Klavier’s introduction, right? It’s a fantastic way to introduce the character that could not be better. He shows up. He bends down, a la how not to talk to short people, and does the bi equivalent of smiling at someone checking you out and going, “Like what you see?”
Oh yeah. And then he leaves. As if he came to this crime scene purely to let you in. As if he didn’t have a reason for coming here in the first place. Just full on-
It’s great. 10/10. But see, there’s something that makes this introduction even better. Mainly, that it’s subtly foreshadowing the final case. Let me explain!
See, it’s important to note why Klavier starts flirting with Apollo. He didn’t just go up to him because he felt like it, there was a reason he decided to open the conversation that way. And it was because Apollo was staring.
A lot of people tend to forget, but the “first time I’ve felt this way with a man” isn’t referring to Klavier’s own emotions (He wrote a song called “My boyfriend is the prosecution’s witness,” I highly doubt this man has only had straight thoughts up till this point), it’s referring to Apollo’s gaze. The way Apollo is “inspecting” him.
Klavier assumes that Apollo is staring at him for the same reason 95% of women stare at him. Because he’s hot. And so, he flirts with him. Because this is Klavier, so of course he’s gonna flirt with the guy he thinks is checking him out.
The thing is. Apollo isn’t staring at him cause he’s hot. He’s staring at him because he looks like Mr. Gavin. He looks like Kristoph.
And that, right there, is your foreshadowing. Because in trial 4, there’s yet another moment where someone stares at Klavier and it’s mistaken for ogling his handsomeness. When, in reality, it’s because he looks like Kristoph.
When Vera Mishman starts staring at Klavier, Trucy says:
It’s because he’s handsome.
Before that, the first time it happens, what does Klavier say?
“…I’m used to being stared at by Fräuleins, believe me.” Just like how he’s, “used to being inspected by the ladies…”
In both cases they’re not staring at him because he’s hot. They’re staring at him because he looks like Kristoph. A brilliant little misdirection, all because of a little flirting.
so back in april i had the idea to draw ace attorney characters as if they were in fantasy life (so essentially combining two of my favorite games) but only finished phoenix then. tonight i finished up the page with some more, and since we know what the new lives in fantasy life i will be, i got the excuse to include vera as an artist :))
id under cut
