Wilted Flowers (Kabuto fanfic)
Summary:
"Women were like beautiful flowers, their outer beauty a tool to bring out further still their inner beauty. People picked flowers for their beautiful petals, not for the seeds within them that spread them throughout the world. If people able to do so came to claim their dead, he hoped his work could make them a more striking corpse to look for and get a proper burial. And if not, then not all flowers trampled between the sidewalk were lost, for they still brought beauty and color to the world even if overlooked by most."
Daisuke in the early months after the meteor fell.
To read on AO3, follow the link below. To read here, continue past the read more!
He never directly sought them out, that wasn’t the point of what he did, he didn't want to spend his days looking for the left behind when he could still move forward. Survival in this place would always take the highest precedent, food and water for him and Gon and a place out of reach of the worms amongst the rubble was what he spent his days searching out. This wasteland of a place once called Shibuya was unrecognizable, and no matter if one lived their whole life there prior it was wiped clean as something new and twisted and impossible to navigate. He couldn’t even search for a way out of this purgatory, caught between salvation just beyond the debris and the hell that awaited anyone who wasn’t fast enough or clever enough to know where to hide when the worms were near. Sometimes it wasn’t even enough to do that, humans were selfish greedy things weren’t they? For so little they would take your entire life without a thought once you stripped back all those masks they called humanity.
No, he never sought out anything other than to survive and keep moving. However, if amongst the wasteland he found a dying soul, cries weak and fleeting and beyond his ability to do anything for their dimming flames, it was for them he would stop. With a by now practiced ease, he would drop his guitar case, a light kick or hit pushing in the mechanism to pop it open and he would without hesitation drop to their side and begin. Under his practiced eye and steady hands, anyone could become beautiful again like a flower blooming in a field of ash.
“They’ll be far too distracted by the beauty of your face to dare say anything of the blood on your clothes i assure, my lady. ”
Sometimes they would cry, and he would simply fix what bled or was smudged until there were no tears left to fall. If that meant their hearts had fallen still or not, it didn’t matter to Daisuke. That was not the point of what he did.
Sometimes they would lean into his warm hands, a last gentle touch and a thank you whispered on their lips as they realized this was the closest to kindness they would find in this place, in these moments. He did not do it for their appreciation, his work was on the living and for the dead.
It was entirely self satisfaction in truth, and he wouldn’t deny it as such if asked; he could not bear to see a woman cry or her beauty ruined if he could step in. Women were like beautiful flowers, their outer beauty a tool to bring out further still their inner beauty. People picked flowers for their beautiful petals, not for the seeds within them that spread them throughout the world. If people able to do so came to claim their dead, he hoped his work could make them a more striking corpse to look for and get a proper burial. And if not, then not all flowers trampled between the sidewalk were lost, for they still brought beauty and color to the world even if overlooked by most.
When he had stumbled upon Gon, lost and crying on the side of what once was likely a bus rest stop, he had found himself overcome with an emotion he couldn't place. She was the first one who he had found that he could actually help, to do something for and to be someone to in all this. In all honesty, before the beginning of all this when the meteor fell, he was simply someone who had barely managed to get into an esthetics school in Shinjuku, working whatever part time jobs he could to pay for his tuition that would surely cripple him in debt. Not that such a thing mattered anymore in this place, this new world they lived in. But now, in this place with this child who called his name and clung to his hand and supplied his compliments, he felt like he was doing something. Like he was becoming someone.
They spent their days simply, looking for supplies and stumbling upon wilting flowers he would work on to nurture in their last bloom before withering away. From scrounging drinks out of broken vending machines to scouting out old storefronts that hadn’t been picked clean yet; more people struggled onwards like they did beneath the chunks of concrete, twisted metal, and never ending scent of burning than one would have expected. It mattered not, for the living were not the company they kept outside each other.
Another mile's progress made towards…something, the end? Who knew. It was an instinct not a destination, but they trekked it nonetheless. And along the way they’d find more along their way, and as always Daisuke would so carefully kneel beside them, doing what he could to clean away the grime and caked blood against their skin. With a fresh canvas, once more he got to work. This flower had yet to realize she was withering away, but the pallor of her skin, the tinge to her lips, the inability to control her spasms and shakes, it was inevitable. Poor thing didn't even understand, from the looks of it the rebar shooting up through her abdomen had severed her spinal cord, she likely couldn't feel everything if anything anymore. Merciful some might call it, but then the fear of the unknown and ignorance was equally as cruel as long suffering wasn't it?
He laid his case of supplies out at his side, Gon lightly kicking the edge to pop it open. He didn't even look her way as he held out a hand.
“Serum 2, puff pad 4.”
The flower cried out, her petals dripping morbid dewdrops that were easily wiped away by Daisuke’s gentle fingertips.
“Help me, oh gods please, I-I’m not-”
He spoke calmly, a small smile on his lips that puckered them slightly as he spoke and his eyes seemed to crinkle with warmth despite the chill in his words and tone. “You’re beyond the struggle for life, my dear, and I'm no angel nor a saint. I am a makeup artist. And you will be as radiant as a..as a...”
“Dying star.” Gon supplied helpfully, as always.
“Yes, yes. That, that,” Daisuke answered, as always. “You’ll be as radiant as a dying star, one last bright spectacle before you fade out. You’ll be beautiful, and I will have made you the most beautiful you could ever be.”
“I don’t want to die, god please, why are you…don't just sit there, please do something FUCKING DO SOMETHING!”
Another expectant hand held out. “Lipstick 7, pencil 3.” he resumed his work, retreading places his canvas’ shaking or crying smudged between application parts.
“What kind of flower do you think you will be? I think something blue, naturally so like the sky, it would suit you…eyeshadow palette 4.”
His touch of brush or sponge to skin was always feather light, only the best products would do and needed no aggression or force behind their use to get the desired pigment. He was in hell, but even hell had temptations of unimaginable beauty after all. It was delicate and deliberate in every way, just as the beauties he worked on were in the world before he was sure of it. The woman his ministrations were for grew softer in her crying, whether it be her body failing or her struggle against his work relaxing away, it did not matter. The result would be the same.
“Gon, do you know of any naturally blue flowers? I want her to know what she looks like even if she can’t see it. Can you describe it to me?”
“I think in a book I found before, it said blue was really rare in nature. But...delphiniums I think, those were blue. They meant something like good luck, and encouragement.”
Daisuke barked a laugh, though from him it came soft like a breeze and not sharp as it would have from any other man. “Splendid, yes it certainly suits you.” He held out his hand once more. “Fragrance.”
He leaned in closer, balancing on the balls of his feet as he scooched back somewhat for distance. From where he sat, he could tell from the increasingly pooling blood beneath her body and the stillness to her frame, at some point she had stopped breathing. He hoped she had at least gotten to hear what he said, it was for her ears especially after all and so fitting were they.
“I always end every session with a puff of happiness, for to be as beautiful as a flower you should also hold the fragrance of one, don’t you think?”
He lightly spritzed 2 puffs from the bottle of perfume he kept safely secured amongst the rest of his makeup supplies in his guitar case. He then stood, looking at his work briefly before wordlessly reaching to take the equally wordlessly outstretched hand of the girl he traveled with and with that, they both moved onwards. On to the next mile and the one after that, towards a goal they weren't quite sure existed, to the next place of safety and past the next flower he would stop to preen to its fullest potential.

i don't think that Daisuke Kazama has ever thought about Gender, as it pertains to himself... nor will he, probably.
however, I think if he woke up one day magically turned into a Woman he would be over the moon!
and then she would walk outside and experience 1 (one) misogyny and immediately explode like a kaijin in the toei quarry

From my understanding the new voices for the four 02 characters in Kizuna ended up very well received - especially Daisuke. Do you happen to know how the Tri voice cast was received in Japan?
From what I remember, it was about as good as you can expect. Voice actor changes done when the original voice actor is still accessible tend to be inherently controversial (even with the 02 quartet, they still were), and at the time, it wasn't formally revealed that Fujita Toshiko had actually been approached and declined due to poor health (it had to be kept a secret at the time on her request, which, according to Seki, put the tri. producers in a really awkward position). But most people were able to figure out what happened just by logical inference: some of the voice actors had retired, and the rest were swapped out for "consistency", especially since the Digimon voice actors were retained while the kids' were the only ones changed out. Some people did argue that "you could have at least gotten the ones that weren't retired!", but I think most people got it.
So, putting aside the people who were trying to stage a boycott over it or something:
I know Tamura Mutsumi's performance as Koushirou was particularly well-praised (this was before she ended up becoming super famous in the industry, since she's now really popular), and because of that quite a few Digimon fans were thrilled to hear her as Hiro in Ghost Game. It's probably the tri. performance I've consistently heard the most praise about, including even rave reviews from people who otherwise disliked the series itself.
There were people who said that Hanae Natsuki's timbre for Taichi was too distracting (on top of him not sounding much like Fujita at all, he was already a really famous voice actor by that point, so everyone recognized him as "Hanae Natsuki" too easily), but even those people all said that his actual acting ability as Taichi nailed his personality very well.
Hosoya's Yamato also got good reviews, which is interesting because he was also already a famous voice actor by this point, but I think it's because his timbre already enough in common with Kazama's that it didn't feel too weird.
Ones people were kind of iffy on were Mimi (although this also had a relationship with the way she was written in tri., I noticed people had fewer issues with her in Kizuna), Takeru, and Hikari (this one may be partially because both voice actors ended up breaking out into the industry shortly after in very different kinds of roles). Although this one I admit there might be some bias; I personally also think these were the ones that feel closest to miscasted to me, so maybe there was some confirmation bias from me noticing when others talked about it...
While we're here, in regards to the 02 quartet, Daisuke (especially Daisuke, dear goodness) and Miyako are generally well-received, but people tend to be more iffy on Ken and Iori. In the case of Ken, though, when you have the incredibly legendary Park Romi as his original voice actress, and when his new voice actor is Lounsbery Arthur who has his own distinctive voice, reputation, and fanbase, I think you were inevitably going to get some kind of complaint of uncanniness in some direction somewhere...

Adoption request for Mahoroba Kanata into the Hakumyu fan community
“Mahoroba Kanata” is a original work of the screen writer Nishida Daisuke, it follows the story of the Choshu clan centered by Takasugi Shinsaku, set in the Bakumatsu period. “Mahoroba” also called the ‘land of blessings’ in the Japanese folklore is something Takasugi dreams of to obtain.
Why do I want adopt it into Hakumyu (Hakuouki)?
The reason are simple and overflowing:
time period and story: 1) both are settled in the Bakumatsu period in a time frame between 1850ties and 1860ties 2) both are concentrate on a contrary opinions, none of them follows the concept of “We are right, you are wrong” 3) there is lot of suffering (maybe a bit more love in Mahoroba) 4) both like to joke and have unique, relatable characters 5) all characters are as well based on real history figures
cast and stuff 1) well as said before: Nishida Daisuke as director (active in Hakumyu since 2018) 2) Tomita Maho: - fourth Chizuru in Kazama Hen                            - playing the role of Shinsaku’s faithfull and tomboiish                                   wife O-Masa 3) Tanoue Marina: - fifth Chizuru in Toudou Hen                               - playing the younger sister of Yoshida Shouin, named                                  Fumi 4) Motonishi Sakiho: - ninth Chizuru in Shitan Kazama Hen                                  - playing the lover of Takasugi Shinsaku, called Ouno 5) Matsuda Ryo: - first Saito Hajime active until Kazama Hen                            - playing the role of Katsuragi Goro
Shinsengumi yes, they do appear and they play a minor role
publication and fandom since it’s on one side an original work and on the other side not part of a series, there’s is no ‘active’ fandom, I would claim (at least outside of Japan) AND they don’t plan on ever publishing a DVD/BD, but since it’s such a high quality play, I find it sad to let it disappear into history’s shadow.
Tumblr media
Why is Mahoroba Kanata attractive on it’s own?
It’s easy to be answered, because it has it all: great music, great story, overwhelming feelings, great actors and great acting, fun bits and good bits and and tearing apart sad parts, great visuals, a beautiful stage - did I forgot something?

So I just found this out while searching for works Kizu Takumi's (Lucky) in, got curious. Apparently he's Sanosuke Sagara from Rorouni Kenshin.
Tumblr media
He stars it alongside Sou Okuno, (Sougo) as
Tumblr media
and Kazuki Katou (Daisuke Kazama - kamen Rider Drake)
Tumblr media
...Are you sure about that? I searched all three actors' filmographies, and it says nothing about them being in Ruroni Kenshin.
Apparently, Sanosuke is played by Mutenaka Aoki, while Seijuro Hiko is played by Masaharu Fukuyama. It doesn't look like Kamatari Honjou has been adapted.
If they had been cast in Kenshin it'd have been huge news, considering the main man himself is a Kamen Rider too. And the most popular one to boot...

SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS ON HAKUMYU
It's been quite a while since I last watched Hakumyu or any contents related to Hakuouki. I just re-watched it yesterday, so I suddenly came up with the idea of writing a few lines for it. I rarely share my thoughts, but no one on here  knows who I am, so, let's start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew Hakuouki quite early, but at first I only watched anime.
I watch Hakumyu before taking the exam. It helps me reducing stress.
Hijikata-hen was my first Hakumyu as my friend recommended to me
Daisuke Hirose as Okita Souji is my favorite actor. I think a day is not enough for me to talk about his awesomeness.
He's really attractive, in an outstanding way with just a smile. In the opening of Hijikata-hen, although the camera just panned over him for a few seconds, I had the distinct impression that he was truly Okita from Hakuouki, and only him.
His voice sounds a lot like Okita's voice actor.
His acting abilities astound me. His actions are also quite good, as seen by the way he accentuates the lines, every look, every grin, and even the amplitude of his movements.
Actually, when it comes to video games, Okita is not my favorite character.
In fact, I like Hijikata more
But after watching Hakumyu, everything changed.
Even though Kazama is my least favorite character, I re-watch Kazama- hen the most, for some reason I don’t really know
Souma-hen is far better than I expected. I may not be used to the change in music for the first few minutes, but after that, I'm at a loss for words.
The guy playing Saitou in Souma-hen impressed me the most. He's the one who looks the most like Saitou in my imagination.
Sannan's route is the play I most wait for.
Actually, my feelings towards Sannan are quite complicated, but I really like Teruma
I've just seen photos, but the cast of Chizuru and Kaoru in Sannan-hen impressed me. Yuzuki Hoshimoto's beauty is perfect for Kaoru
I guess that’s all. Maybe I'll try to write a better review for Hakumyu someday (maybe not)
