Do you agree with most of these results? I would definitely move some around but I like most of the top 10 so I won’t complain too much lol! What’s odd is that, although most of these roles are anime, there are things like Otomate Channel and Hirakawanchi which are just steamed shows with other seiyuu!

It’s time for part two of Touken Ranbu -ONLINE- 2021 deck lists. Electric boogaloo at your own discretion. I’ll be honest up front that I’m not super confident in this list. In theory it should function, but this deck centers around a mechanic that can pretty easily bite the player in the butt if they don’t get their pieces. Mostly I wish I could have found space for at least one good booster, but oh well. Without further ado, Kasen Kanesada Kiwame, the first of four ride lines from the booster set.
Deck Log Code: Q8LU Ride Deck: -x1 Kasen Kanesada Kiwame -x1 Kasen Kanesada Toku -x1 Kasen Kanesada Sentou -x1 Kasen Kanesada Main Deck:     Grade 3 -x3 Kasen Kanesada Kiwame -x4 Tonbokiri     Grade 2 -x3 Juzumaru Tsunetsugu -x3 Shokudaikiri Mitsutada -x3 Sanchoumou -x3 Kokindenjunotachi -x4 Jizou Yukihira -x3 Buzengou     Grade 1 -x4 Hakusanyoshimitsu     Grade 0 -x4 Gotou Toushirou (Critical Trigger) -x3 Akita Toushirou (Front Trigger) -x4 Yagen Toushirou (Heal Trigger) -x4 Atsushi Toushirou (Critical Trigger) -x1 Kasen Kanesada Shinken Hissatsu (Over Trigger) So as I mentioned above, Kasen’s main mechanic is probably the one of all the Touken Ranbu lines that I’m the least comfortable with. The fact that Kasen has a continuous skill that forces your opponent to to call two or more guardians when his power is 30k or greater has the potential to be great for pressure since it means perfect guards (outside of Elementaria Sanctitude) still require another card to be discarded. This can be deadly if they’re down to a single perfect guard with no other cards in hand since it essentially means they can’t call it to guard. However, that brings us to the main downside... Kasen’s Act skill requires that you rest rearguards in order for him to gain power. He gains 5k for each rearguard rested by this ability. And while this goes well with his continuous skill, if you’ve bricked and didn’t happen to get units that can re-stand, you essentially either only get one or two attacks that turn or your vanguard doesn’t get to do anything outside of the twin drive. The main units I’ve selected to try to get around this limitation are Tonbokiri, Kokindenjunotachi, and Jizou Yukihira. Tonbokiri, thankfully, is able to re-stand himself once per turn when he’s rested as part of a cost. Not only that, but the re-stand has no cost of its own. Kokindenjunotachi’s ability to re-stand does have a cost of a single counterblast, but he’s not limited to only himself and also gives 5k to the unit that was stood. It is still only once per turn, but that’s hopefully more than enough since at worst you’d only need to rest four units to break the 30k threshold on Kasen. Jizou Yukihira doesn’t actually have the ability to restand, but since this particular build doesn’t run any boosters, he’s actually a pretty good fit for the back row. When rested by a cost, he’s able to give 5k to any unit on the board. This potentially gives you the ability to either rest fewer units by giving the power to the Vanguard or make one of your rearguards a bigger threat. There is technically one other unit that can help to re-stand the board and also make your swings harder to stop. Juzumaru Tsunetsugu can give -5k to an opposing unit at the cost of a counterblast and resting two units. That may seem like a hefty cost, but if you happened to persona ride that turn, all of your rearguards get to stand. The remaining units are essentially for resource management or small power gain. Shokudaikiri can give an extra 5k to your front row (and snipe one of the opponent’s front row rearguards if you can afford the cost), Sanchoumou can countercharge if you persona rode, and Buzengou puts himself into soul to give 5k to a unit. Working all together, this will hopefully give the best possible chance to get a board that requires minimal loss to the number of attacks every turn. A few possible alternative choices for the deck would include: -Mikazuki Munechika     I’ve mentioned him before and he’ll probably show up in all of these Touken Ranbu lists. The most important skill is usually his ability to re-stand mid-battle if you have five damage, so he’s not super important until the game is already almost over, but he can potentially be the multi-attack you need to end the game. The main reason he’s not on the list? Once again it’s the price of the card. If you already have him and would like to use him, you could either replace Shokudaikiri or change the ratios of a few other units. -Kuwanagou     While I prefer Kuwanagou for most decks due to the on-hit pressure, I ultimately went with Buzengou instead since he could be rested and then sent to soul to free up a rearguard circle. If counterblasts end up being more of an issue than soulblasts though, Kuwanagou is the better choice despite less consistently being able to get the countercharge. Plus, if you’re fine on counterblasts, you have the option to soulcharge instead. The only other main difference is that you’ll be losing the 5k boost to a unit. -Kikkou Sadamune     Since this deck doesn’t run any boosters, another possible card you might not mind leaving in your back row is Kikkou Sadamune. At first his skill to remain rested if you choose seems odd, but if you do, he can give 10k to any of your units at the beginning of your main phase. Meaning before you’ve even done anything, Kasen could be at 23k, or already at 33k if you persona rode. I wouldn’t run him at very high numbers since he can’t do anything else, reducing Jizou and Tonbokiri by one each may be enough to squeeze a couple in. -Trigger Lineup     This was tough to decide on, honestly, and I’m still not sure whether draws or fronts are the better choice. Touken Ranbu tends to struggle with hand-size since it almost exclusively calls from hand, so naturally you would want to run draws. But draws have a smaller shield value. Fronts on the other hand will boost your entire front row and have the standard 15k shield. But if you didn’t have a way to re-stand your front row, then the front is wasted. There’s always the option to run rainbow triggers, but I decided against this since I felt the pressure of extra criticals is more important. It’s just up to what you’re more comfortable with. Remember, these deck lists are for fun and not necessarily optimized. If you have another card that you think would make a better fit, then go for it and test it out. I ended up writing a lot more about this deck than I expected, but I hope everything makes sense. It was unfortunately written off as one of the weaker decks when the set released, so I’m hoping if/when we get Touken Ranbu -ONLINE- 2023 he can redeem himself a bit. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to send me a message! Next time I’ll be talking about Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki.

dear touken ranbu
I started Touken Ranbu EN on its launch day. I didn't think much of it-- I was bored, I was curious. I didn't know anything about the franchise or Japanese swords. Johren's translations were a mess as I scrolled through the five starting swords but I eventually decided to go with Kasen Kanesada because I liked his gentle expression and thick eyebrows.
I'll probably stop playing this game within a week or two, I thought. Instead, I played the game from launch until today, a span of more than two years.
English TKRB launched together with Kasen's Special Investigation event and Hanjin's first smithing event. Unsurprisingly, I didn't bring Hanjin home, but I was okay with that. Kasen's SI was rough and I lost to the boss in the first map. I went back to the regular battle maps to level up some more. I persisted, and went on to finish the event two or three times. I know that many players don't like the dark tunnel section, but I thought it was so interesting. I drew maps in my notebook to estimate the best routes to take to the end. And I was so happy to learn more about my starter sword, his history, and his relationship with Kokindenjunotachi, Jizou Yukihira, Hosokawa Gracia, and the Hosokawa family. I felt like I had a duty to help him complete his personal quest.
By that time, I was already hooked. Every new event I came across was a joy (except for dango, haha). Every new sword I met was so exciting. I rushed to read fan explanations of their dialogues and histories. I did my best to fill out the recollections they had with each other. I think we all know that the actual gameplay is honestly quite bland; I would rather play something like Bloodborne or Final Fantasy. The thing that really shines are the sword characterizations. Somehow the developers took these historical blades and stories and made compelling, complex characters out of them. Then they convinced some very amazing artists and voice actors to breathe even more life into these characters.
When I found out Yuuki Kaji voiced one of the touken danshi, I was intrigued. I learned about this little tantou named Hyuuga Masamune who is always trying his best and wanting to help. I loved him immediately. The only problem was, he was a rare drop from the boss node in 8-2, and my account was only a few months old. I had only just begun to kiwame swords, but I spent all the time I could in game running 8-2 over and over again while being careful not to put any of my swords in real danger. My first kiwame team (Taikogane Sadamune, Gokotai, Taroutachi, Tsurumaru, Izuminokami Kanesada, Honebami Toushirou) went from level 40 to level 80 before Hyuuga finally came home. It was September 2021: I was having a hard time living by myself in a city where I didn't know anybody at the time, and it really felt like my son arrived to cheer me on. Among friends I am known for "camping" in 8-2 because I loved this tantou's attitude so much that I wanted to bring him to max ranbu. I recently raised him to ranbu level 5-- that's 26 Hyuugas-- on a two year old account!
This is part of why I cannot start over from zero on a Japanese account, at least not right now. I have maxed 17 kiwame swords. I have collected every sword except Oodenta and Nukemaru. I have so many memories invested in each of my swords, even from just a play period of two years.
As I say goodbye, I find myself thinking over those two years. English TKRB launched during a global pandemic, and it preciously allowed me to connect with strangers over a hobby while I was cooped up inside in America. I loved the characters so much I joined an online community of international fans to discuss the franchise. These fellow fans introduced me to the stage plays (sute), musicals (myu), anime, and movies. I jumped through hoops to buy streams and archives on DMM. I bought wanpaku, nendodroids, pins, artbooks, blurays. I wanted to someday visit Japan and take part in a stamp rally. I wanted to pay my respects to the physical swords and their history in person in museums. I bought expansions and items in game. I wanted my swords to live comfortably. I was happy to buy the English version of Touken Ranbu Warriors. Words cannot express how delighted I was to deliberately serve Kasen Kanesada some bad tea and see him frown. The gentle way Kasen took care of Hyuuga and everyone in Team 2 made me very happy. I loved to see everyone support each other.
I made some lasting friends among those international fans. I recently even got to meet one of them in person while I was on vacation, and I'm so happy to have them in my life. I can't wait to meet them again, as they've become more than just a fellow fan but a true close friend.
Besides connecting me with other people, Touken Ranbu also helped me to better understand myself. Despite the bland gameplay, the game was so comforting to me. I loved that there was less focus on the player character and no explicit romance elements. There was a big variety of sword character designs, and not all of them were sexy. In a world where romance elements are everywhere in RPG, or where any game marketed towards women was likely to have romance in it, Touken Ranbu was so refreshing. It was a lovely safe space I could have where in my personal Honmaru my saniwa was just friends with everyone. I appreciated that each player had the option to imagine their relationships, whether it was romantic or not. By examining why I loved the game so much, I slowly came to realize that I was aromantic and asexual. A lot of my past relationships and life events gained clarity, and I'm grateful to know myself better now.
As I say farewell to the game, I wonder where my swords will go. I hope that they find friendly Japanese citadels if they want to keep fighting. I hope that they retire and build happy lives if that's what they want. I regret not being able to bring closure to the swords I could not kiwame. I hope everyone can be happy and healthy, even without me.
Goodbye, Touken Ranbu. Thank you for what you gave me these past two years, even if it is a sudden farewell. I had my fair share of troubles with Johren's English version that partially stemmed from being an inconvenient afterthought to a game that was focused on its primary Japanese market. Despite all of this, I still loved the game. It's with a heavy heart that I say goodbye.

May I request something with Kokindenju-no-tachi and Himetsuru (separately) tending to a saniwa (they/them) who has troubles sleeping because of chronic joint pain?
Thank you in advance and take as long as you need ^-^
Kokindenjunotachi and Himetsuru Tending to Saniwa with Sleeping Problems (GN!Reader)
Tumblr media
♡ Kokindenjunotachi would notice when they're in pain. He has a more observing eye than one may think. He would quickly notice your discomfort from certain movements and as you about them.
♡ He isn't someone who can heal or very knowledgeable about medicine. But he does what he can to help them on nights where it is particularly bad.
♡ Kokindenjunotachi would either ask Kasen to make tea that helps with soothing the mind or the body... Hopefully both. If Kasen isn't around, he will do it himself and try to pick the best kind he can to help.
♡ Kokindenjunotachi would keep good track of any medicine they need to take for the pain, especially if it's something they have to take daily. Making extra sure to remind them of it or bringing tea to them with it on the tray so they also remember.
♡ Once they are laying down and the most comfortable they can be currently, he would light some incenses. It would take a few tries to find the ones the work the best for them and Kokindenjunotachi would make note of any they really do not favor.
♡ Making sure they are all cozy in their bed, he will quietly start reciting some poems to them. Either from a book from his room or the ones he remembers off the top of his head, which is quite a lot since he has a very good memory.
♡ Kokindenjunotachi would probably do plenty of research on how to help them. He would most likely stumble upon ASMR and offer to do that for them if they so please.
♡ The ASMR would be of him whispering the poems to them and soft taps on a tea cup. Sometimes even pouring tea into the cup to get that sensation. Soft turns of a page and writing gently on a page.
♡ Anything to really help relax the mind and body.
♡ Once they do fall asleep, Kokindenjunotachi probably would stay around for 20 minutes or so to make sure that they are in a deep slumber before getting up to leave.
♡ He wouldn't want to leave if the pain wakes them up again so he waits those minutes to ensure the pain is at least bearable so his saniwa can rest.

Artist Credit: Suda Ayaka (Official artist for Himetsuru)
♡ Himetsuru has never had a problem with sleeping in his entire life (which isn't entirely long since he is a pretty new sword) so when he was asked to help his saniwa with getting to sleep, he was very perplexed to say the least.
♡ He could make sure that they had pleasant dreams by visiting them in the REM stage but he would first have to get them to sleep.
♡ And he is no doctor.
♡ First time he has decided to give it his all in researching how to help others sleep. He would never tell anyone how long he was looking for solutions, especially not the rest of the Ichimonji clan, but it was long enough for him to have an entire list of solutions by the time night fell.
♡ It probably looked like Himetsuru was going to another citadel for a sleepover when they saw him walking in the hall with a bag and a huge weighted blanket in his arms.
♡ He would probably try it all. First the incense to sooth the heighten senses. Then some soft music, his picks would be anything with harps and pianos.
♡ Himetsuru isn't the biggest fan of tea compared to other people but if the saniwa is thirsty, he would get someone to make them some. Not him though, he is too busy for that.
♡ Once they are feeling more relaxed, Himetsuru will gently apply some essential oils to their skin. Usually going with lavender because it is a very soft scent that won't overpower the other things going on in the room.
♡ Then he would tuck them in with the weighted blanket, hopefully not hurting them at all.
♡ He wouldn't read to them since he tends to get very sleepy if he does and would end up falling asleep on them instead of actually helping them sleep, but he would still gently whisper to them.
♡ His hands gently stroking the top of their head as he whispers to them about stories of his past or what he was doing during the day.
♡ As their eyes fall and their breath slows. Himetsuru would also fall asleep to enter their dreams to make sure he casts away any nightmares that might try to befall them or if he can somehow limit any of the pain receptors so it doesn't wake them up.
