Hey, your bio says that you “like talking about your favourite books but unfortunately no one knows about them” so I was wondering — what are your favourite books?
OMG thank you for your question! This is my first ever ask and receiving it from such a talented and nice person like you is a great honour! Also sorry it took me so long...
My favourite books are the 'Die Erben der Nacht' series (translated into english 'the heirs of the night') by Ulrike Schweikert. It's a german book series wich contains six books. They are historical fiction (1877-1883) mixed with Fantasy (it's about vampires, but there are also other magical creatures like werewolves). It deals with topics like coming of age, friendship and love.
There are well written characters with pretty impressive character development and the plot is also pretty good. It's basically about how the vampires get repressed and decide to teach their children together. The main characters are a group of young vampires from various clans who become friends and more later on... two of them have a pretty good rivals to lovers arc. They have to overcome various challenges through the years all leading to defeat the mega villain Dracula later on. There is also a suplot with an orphan girl who lives with her vampire hunting uncle that falls in love with one of the vampire teens. The books are filled with a lots of information about culture, science and society back then.
You also meet many famous people from that time. The most important one being Bram Stoker who is an important part of the Story. Not only adopts he the orphan girl when her uncle dies but he also helps defeating Dracula along with Doktor van Helsing the vampire hunter. The plot basically inspires him to write Dracula.
You also meet other people like Oscar Wilde or empress Sisi of Austria.
The four main vampires also befriend the phantom of the opera in the third book.
The books also deal with things like feminism and stuff like that
I recommend it for people that speak German (obviously) who are interested in vampires and history and don't look for a literally masterpiece, cause it really isn't. It's a great YA book and an easy and quick read.

Genuinely curious as to why there's so much debate on the apollo-artemis sun-moon association. People aren't bothered about Ouranos being the sky personified and Zeus being the god of sky. So regardless of whether one finds the sufficient amount of evidence dubious or not, it is not a conceptually impossible thing for two sun and moon deities to coexist right?
Is this topic hotly debated? These gods are not a particular interest of mine so I'm not really aware of things like that.
Yes, it is pretty common and normal for multiple gods to share a particular sphere of influence, especially if we're talking about something commonplace like birth, childcare, marriage and the like. Two sun or moon gods could seem a bit redundant though, and presumably this is why the identification of Apollo and Artemis with the sun & moon tends to also cause their identification with Helios and Selene themselves,, which in turn can lead to things like Phaethon being called the son of Apollo, Selene's lovers being attributed to Artemis or Leto/Latona being called mother to the moon.
I think the thing with Ouranos and Zeus is that the former has very little presence in the myths, basically none in cult, and was also essentially put out of action the moment he was castrated and permanently separated from Earth. Helios and Selene on the other hand are pretty active in the myths, there are no stories where they have their functions taken away, so when one reads about Apollo driving the sun chariot the question arises of what happened to Helios.
There is also the fact that both Artemis and apollo have plenty of roles and functions unrelated to the moon and sun, many older and better attested, which is why personally I'm not a fan of when "god/goddess of sun/moon" are treated as their primary roles. That's not to say people are wrong to consider them as such, but I think it is useful to point out that their solar/lunar aspects were later developments.

@zeroabyss replied to your post “@zeroabyss replied to your post “You're not wrong...”:
I definitely say a father telling him he has to do it all on his own and that he can’t even rely on his friends or even their fellow nations, definitely pushed Lyon to take the path that he did. No one can handle something on their own, and so Lyon was tempted to use the one power their texts said had the power to avert disaster.
You can see how this issue was more than likely a flaw when Lyon talks about him to the twins. About how his father took on the burdens all on his throne and barely, if ever rested. The man shouldered everything that it likely played into his worsening health and death, and his final words being to tell Lyon he can’t rely on help from others concerning a natural disaster and that the other countries would leave any Grado refugees to die at the border to protect themselves
Vigarde pushing all of the country's hopes and aspirations on his unprepared son was his mistake, sure, but...
Between Vigarde telling him to deal with Grado's fate alone because relying on Renais is impossible, and Vigarde/Father Mc Gregor/The World telling him not to free Satan to use his powers because Satan nearly destroyed the continent centuries ago, if Lyon had to pick one command to disobey, I suppose he could have picked the "I'm still going to ask for Renais' help" instead of "I'm going to use Fomortiis' powers".
Vigarde might have steered him in the wrong direction - Lyon already playing with Fomortiis' powers (to save a child! and then to predict tempests and save more lives!) was his own thing.
It's SS in a nutshell, good intentions alone cannot justify the worst means used to satisfy/reach them.
Lyon lamented and complained about his perceived weakness, feeling he would never compare to the twins nor would be the kind of ruler Grado will need to save itself... so he doomed Magvel, wanting to be the strong and kind person he wished to be.
I think this is the flashback where it's more or less spelled out :
Lyon: “Mm… My research isn’t complete yet, but there’s no mistaking the power the Sacred Stones contain. And the Stone of Grado seems especially responsive to my dark magic. I suppose it’s because it contains both sacred and demonic properties. Regardless, if I can just press my studies a little harder… Well, I think I might be able to use it to heal my father’s illness. If that works, there’s no telling how many other people I can help as well.” Eirika: “Do you think this is wise? The power contained within the stones is beyond our understanding… My father tells me that the stones possess a power not to be trifled with.” Lyon: “Uh-huh… Father MacGregor is also against it. That’s why they still won’t give me direct access to the Stone of Grado. For the time being, I’ve made do with the radiant energies surrounding it. They’re nothing compared to the raw power of the stone itself, but… If I can show Father MacGregor some real progress, perhaps one day…”
(...)
Lyon: “Thanks, both of you. Hearing those words from you means a lot to me. Actually–and this hasn’t been made public yet–but… I’ve already saved someone using the knowledge I’ve gleaned so far.” Ephraim: “You have?” Lyon: “Uh-huh… A while back, a fire ravaged Serafew, and a little girl got trapped in the flames. Her burns were terrible: not even healing staves were able to cure her injuries. But just a sliver of the stone’s power restored her life and healed her wounds. We saved that girl’s life, Ephraim! Oh, if you could have seen the tears of joy in her mother’s eyes!
Fado, Ismaire and I'm pretty sure Vigarde himself know it's not wise to triffle/use the SS powers... Father MacGregor is also against it, as the resident "holy man" around - and his words are important, since the Church of Magvel was founded after Latona, who fell herself (but managed to fend him off for some reason ???) to Fomortiis' possession! - but Lyon's reply is... Mockery? Or disinterest?
Father Mac Gregor wanted to prevent him from continuing on this path, and forbade him access to the Stone! But Lyon didn't care and still used what was... available, when he also knows the power he is using has demonic properties, and a will of its own!
Lyon's reasoning isn't "Father Mac Gregor is right maybe I should try to consider that I cannot "use" Fomortiis" but something like "maybe he doesn't believe me when I tell him this power can be used for good! I just have to continue working on it!" completely missing the point...
Or is he?
Sure, Lyon saved the Serafew child... but this hadn't made been public as of yet (2 years before the start of the game), like was this not enough to convince Father Mac Gregor that he could use those powers to do right and good things? Or Lyon himself realised he... "saved" someone who was already dead?
This flashback is even more interesting because we have this, the twins' failure :
Ephraim: “Using the Sacred Stones to study magic…” Lyon: “Ephraim, Eirika, what do you two think? Using the divine power of the Sacred Stones in this way… You don’t think it’s a very good idea, do you?” Ephraim: “…It’s just that I know nothing at all of magic. I would that there were some way I could help you, but I simply can’t. But, Lyon, I’ve seen how hard you’ve worked to help others. I know how much you want the power to make others happy. I know these things, and because I know you, I trust your intentions.” Lyon: “Ephraim…” Ephraim: “If you hope to use the power of the Sacred Stone for good, I trust you can. I’m behind you all the way.” Eirika: “I agree with Ephraim entirely. You spend every night in the library, studying cures for your father’s illness. The power of the Sacred Stones is too powerful to be used for personal gain. But you, Lyon… I think you’ll be fine. You’re the kindest person I know.”
It's a double failure on their part, firstly because they give empty reassurances to Lyon claiming to know him, how he wants to use this power because he has the right intentions, or how it's totally not used for his personal gains...
When part of Lyon's desire for power was to help people, sure, but also, to be worth someone in Ephraim and Eirika's eyes!
Secondly...
No, the power of the SS (especially the one housing Fomortiis!) cannot and should not be used, even for "good" or with "good intentions". There are lines that shouldn't be crossed, even if it means not being able to save people/not reach your dreams.
The Epilogue in Eirika's route is very explicit :
Eirika: “That would be nice… But first we must seal this away… This stone banished the Demon King. With such power… Do you suppose we could bring back Father and Lyon… That everyone who died in this dreadful war could be–“ Ephraim: “Eirika.” Eirika: “I know, I know. Such things would be– I cannot wish for such things. No matter how it hurts, or rather because it hurts, we must learn to accept sorrow. We must take it into our hearts and tame our grief…” Ephraim: “Eirika… Tell me, Sister… If Lyon were here with us, what do you think he would want?” Eirika: “What he would want?” Ephraim: “Yes. You see, I think I know. It was the reason for his studies. It’s why he wanted to know about the Sacred Stones–or rather the Fire Emblem. Let’s take Lyon’s dreams and fulfill them in his stead. We can do that, can’t we? Without relying on any mystic power?” Eirika: “You’re right, Brother, we can. Let us fulfill his dreams. As Lyon wanted, as we all want… So we may live in peace and joy.”
Sure this epilogue sort of sucks because Eirika has to be explained things by Eph out of anyone (when we know how he takes the news in his route!), but the point still stands, tempted with the power to achieve the impossible... the heroes refuse and accept to move forward and fulfill their dreams (make the impossible possible?) without relying on mystic powers, especially if it comes from Fomortiis himself!

Hi !
🏛🎉 for the ask game !!
Have a great day !
hey there! thank you for sending the ask 💕😊
(and, i got your other one! i will be keeping it in my inbox so i can see it when i delete nasty or annoying messages lol)
🎉 - Do you celebrate any festivals? If so, which ones?
i would like to celebrate festivals more in the future, but i often have trouble fitting them into my schedule, sadly:(.
i know it's anthesteria now, but the most i can do is quiet and simple celebrations, offerings, and worship. and i can't offer much in terms of wine or alcohol, since i'm only 17, so i make do with what i've got. more quiet time with bacchus, less loud celebration and drinking lol
more broadly, i try to at least observe the lunar cycle and celebreate noumenia, agathodaemon, and the deipnon (though there's debate on if hekate's deipnon is historically attested, i enjoy it and having a quiet day with hekate). bigger festivities or holidays are more difficult for me right now, but i hope to do more in the future!
🏛️ - Do you have a favorite statue or temple to your deity(ies)? If yes, what is it?
i can't choose a favorite! i tend to lean towards statues of aphroditos, since they make me feel happy as a trans person but also protected in their apotropaic qualities, but Latona and Her Children by William Henry Rinehart is just so soft! i love the gentle look on leto's face, and how sweet baby apollo and diana look!

Can you talk about Diana (78)?
diana, goddess of the hunt, wild animals, and midwifery (asteroid 78)
Tumblr media
Diana is the daughter of Jupiter and Latona. Her twin, Apollo, rules over the opposite domains in which she does. Unlike the Greek version, told in Apollo's post, Jupiter married Latona then left her for Juno. Juno, as the jealous new wife, made sure that Latona struggled to find somewhere to have Jupiter’s children. The rest of the myth matches the Greek version. Diana is known for her solitude and virginal status. Unlike Artemis, Diana is associated with the darker parts of nature like death and the underworld. Diana is often depicted with a golden bow and arrow in the wilderness hunting animals. One of the most popular myths involving Diana comes from Metamorphoses - Actaeon the hunter who runs with hounds. Actaeon came across Diana who was in a pond bathing. Diana was flabbergasted by this encounter and of course was ashamed she had been seen naked, she splashed Actaeon with water. This splash caused him to transform into a stag. Actaeon's own dogs eventually reached him and brought him down. IN MY OPINION Diana in your chart can represent a) where your hunting perilous is strong, b) where you prefer to be alone, c) where you mature quickly, d) where you are modest, and/or e) where you destroy those who see your vulnerability.
Tumblr media
i encourage you to look into the aspects of diana along with the sign, degree, and house placement. for the more advanced astrologers, take a look at the persona chart of diana AND/OR add the other characters involved to see how they support or impede diana!
OTHER RELATED ASTEROIDS/PLANETS: JUPITER, juno (3), apollo (1862), ovidius (2800), and latona (639)!

22. A childhood memory
Heavy weighs the book in her hands. It leads her in a downward trajectory as she approaches Dozla. She liked it when history was kept in neatly in books. When it was something she could hold (theoretically, her hands barely met around this tome), it felt like it wasn't going to just detach and float away from her. Those ridiculous scholars Uncle hired, tripping over books, unravelling pages, feeling words crumble beneath their finger tips, they knew just how flighty the whole thing was. The price of history is dear in the moment, heavy in the making, but it has this unpleasant tendency of slipping away.
It was a different story entirely, of course, if you were a hero. If fame carried your name throughout the lands. Heroes do not get forgotten! But, a horrible part of her, one L'Arachel spent most of her time ignoring whispers. In history, there are no heroes.
It was all his idea, of course: Say, Princess L'Arachel, you've spent an awful long time looking out that window, why don't we read that book you're holding? Said in soft tones, as if she were a mewling babe! She, L'Arachel could read perfectly fine, thank you very much. Reading was of the utmost importance to her lately, and if she was to begin to accrue fame, she supposed being known as a child prodigy was a start. With a huff which was more a prompt for compliments at her kindness in agreeing to bless him with her presence, she turns to face him.
She stops. Feels the sun on her face. Warm as a mother's hand.
It's a warm spring afternoon; the windows to her room are barred. She can hear birdsong tapping against the glass, the impatient sound of a visitor demanding entry.
She wants to go outside. She wants to hear birdsong without thinking of the woods. But she allows herself to be pulled away by Dozla. He directs her to a chair, and she sits, unconsciously. She really wished he would stop looking at her like that - all bunched up brows, and a mouth trying to say something that can't come out.
Why didn't any of the grown-ups see that she was perfectly fine? Pure nonsense.
'Come, Dozla, you may read to me.'
With that he grins, the corners of his eyes crinkling, further embedding smile lines that seem to be more of an inevitability with Dozla than any sign of approaching age. Why, she wouldn't be surprised if he had just been born that way. When she was bored it tickled her to imagine him in his mother's arms, wrinkled and guffawing.
It's his smile lines that she associates with him more than anything. She doesn't remember him for anything else. Not his axe, not his ridiculous beard (the only time Dozla had ever refused his princess was when she offered up her premium beard-cutting services), and not how his smile wavered in this moment, just a little, looking at her in the sun. Sitting next to her, he opens his hands, palm up, as if offering her a gift. She almost drops the book trying to hand it over.
'Easy there! What, are you trying to take me out or something?'
She laughs at this. It's not his best work, but it's enough.
'Now,' He grouses in feigned indignation, before pushing up his reading glasses, 'Where were we?'
'Please, start from the beginning.'
'AHEM...'
In an age long past… Evil flooded over the land. Creatures awash in the dark tide ran wild, pushing mankind to the brink of annihilation. In its despair, mankind appealed to the heavens, and from a blinding light came hope. THE SACRED STONES. These five glorious treasures held the power to dispel evil. The hero Grado-
She glances askance at him, eyebrow raised.
'Ah, apologies princess, the hero Latona, who was perfection beyond all compare and greatly resembling a certain future princess of Rausten…'
She drifts off. It's a familiar story. One she's heard time and time again. The familiar scrape of Dozla's fingers on each page, the intakes of breath, the dramatic pauses. She knows it all.
Truly, it was strange. Her ancestor's terrors were now her bedtime stories. But, that wasn't what she was thinking in that moment, was it? No, she wouldn't revisit the old nightmare until it seemed to start up all over again.
Instead, she was thinking about a duo of valiant heroes. Saviours of Rausten, and their daughter. Very brave, and entirely righteous. They had to leave her behind, to save the world. Much like Latona. But, when they left, her Uncle's historians didn't rush to write it all down. No one else would talk to her about them. All she had left was a letter.
One she was slowly learning to read.

Cantarix Academy Chapter 1 Part 1 - Kit Maiton
The day of a new year was often a celebrated occasion, a day that brought promise and potential. As a new year dawned, people would often make claims and plans for the coming months, preparing themselves for reinvention, or minor change.
It could be said that school years were similar, bringing bright new faces, eager to learn, or just ones who planned to skate by. As well as returning faces, ready to tackle another year.
On a fine early autumn day, the prestigious Cantarix Academy would begin yet another year within the school’s halls. Located on the continent of Kairos, Cantarix took many students from the four kingdoms that surrounded it, those wishing to elevate their understanding of magic to a higher level, to hone their skills and train in their chosen path.
One such student was a unique case, Kit Maiton, an experiment of sorts. Said girl sat in the Academy director’s office, kicking her feet in the air below her chair. Glancing to her two mothers, Thea and Latona Maiton. The girl’s bronze skin shone in the sunlight that streamed through the office windows. It was early morning, shortly before any other students would be arriving.
Footsteps approached the trio from behind the director’s desk, as the owner of the desk sat in the chair behind it. Kit registered them as Director Teliram, the person her mothers intended on meeting with this morning. Although it was a feeling Kit rarely experienced, she knew the feeling of anxiety when she felt it.
The director made eye contact with her, and Kit quickly diverted her gaze elsewhere, just above their head. A practiced maneuver.
“You must be Kit.” The director smiled, “My, my, it's certainly wonderful to meet you in person.”
“You as well!” Kit hated how her voice squeaked, but her point came across clearly, a good outcome.
“Director Teliram.” Thea, Kit’s mom said, “You’ve seen our letters, right?”
“We’d like to know your thoughts on the matter.” Latona, Kit’s mother added.
The two women were teachers at Cantarix, with Thea teaching techno magic and artificer classes, and Latona teaching astral magic. The two had been absent in their classes for the past two years, undertaking the project of creating Kit. And now, enrolling her in Cantarix. It was a nerve wracking process, as nobody like Kit existed in the world, or at least, in Kairos.
“I see no reason to be worried.” Teliram laughed a bit, the older human smiling. “What reason would I have to not allow Kit to attend Cantarix?”
“Well… we assumed the worst.” Thea admitted, “But I suppose I should know you better, Director.”
“I can't say I blame you for your caution, however.” Teliram said, “Kit is indeed a special case, but in my eyes, she is like any other student to walk our fair halls.
“That is good.” Latona said, her starry hair flaring up.. “Or I would have had to threaten you.”
“Love! Please, it wouldn't have had to come to that!” Thea exclaimed, Kit smiled slightly, laughing at their antics.
Teliram laughed as well, “I have Kit’s schedule and dorm assignments prepared, if you would like to help her get settled.” They slid a pair of papers across the table, which were both taken up by Kit.
“I believe I can find everything myself.” Kit said with a confident nod, “I will have to become familiar with the area myself, since I will be attending Cantarix for the next eight years.”
“And we have classes to prepare for.” Latona said, now standing.
“Thank you again, Teliram.” Thea smiled.
“It was nothing.” Teliram nodded, “Welcome to Cantarix Academy, Kit.”

I really enjoy writing things that give away io's trust in a person. how much lu likes a person or acts with them is a direct link to how much io trusts them. i.e. lu is most affectionate (besides with io) with latona, who is someone io trusts the most they themself possibly can.

latona’s magic feels very cool/cold. but in a good way? for the most part, anyway. it’s like cool tile on a hot day, or a damp, cool cloth against your forehead when you’re sick. damp earth and shade in grassy places. its comforting, until she’s angry. and then it feels like a winter’s chill. frostbite and swift, icy rivers.

L’Arachel- Sacred Stones
L’Arachel is Joshua’s competition for my favorite character, even if she does arrive late and comparatively weak. And hard to level. I just vibe with her okay?
Boons: Faith, Riding, Authority
Banes: Bow, Armor
Combat Arts: None
Hidden Talent: Brawling (Mystic Blow)
Reason: Fire (D), Sagittae (C), Ragnarok (B), Agnea’s Arrow (A)
Faith: HealNos, Restore (C), Aura (B), Fortify (A)
Authority: Rally Luck (D), Battalion Renewal (C), Rally Charm (C+), Battalion Wrath (A), Rally Resistance (S)
Troubadour, so faith and Riding. Her personality is very large and in charge so authority is an easy pick too. The hidden talent’s a bit of a reach, but she pops up as a war cleric in Awakening so I’d like her to be able to qualify for that without much difficulty, with Mystic Blow fitting her stats. Like the other magic users the biggest question is her spell list. I went with fewer reason spells since she only gets access to anima on promotion in SS, and went with a fire and light theme that actually matches Lorenz’s list as it turns out. Plus I didn’t wanna do fire then thunder again I swear I’ve done that with every other character. For the Faith spells I did restore and fortify since Rausten’s Latona staff essentially combines them, and aura so that she gets an offensive Faith spell besides Nosferatu. This leaves out Seraphim, but in L’Arachel’s case I feel she would have the same personal ability as Hapi wherein all her attacks deal effective damage against monsters, so Seraphim would be redundant. Also I think that makes her L’Arachel the first character I’ve guessed a hypothetical ability for? Neat. Authority gives her a few rally’s that I feel fit for her stats and personality, battalion renewal since she’s a healer and wrath so that she can channel her righteous indignation as her battalion is diminished.
