De uitoefening van deze bedrijven dient plaats te vinden in een voor het publiek toegankelijke ruimte voor rechtstreekse levering van roerende zaken of dienstverlening. Doorslaggevend is of er een verkooppunt voor het publiek aanwezig is.

Het betreft hier een strak wettelijk regime (dwingend rechtelijk) waarvoor nauwelijks afgeweken kan worden. De verhuurder die ten nadele van de huurder van dit systeem wil afwijken heeft daarvoor zeer goede argumenten alsook toestemming van de rechter nodig.

As the lead single off the debut album by Object of Affection -- a new band featuring vocalist Colin Night, guitarists Madison Woodward of Fury and Remy Veselis of Death Bells, La Bonte’s Garrett La Bonte behind the bass, and Nick Nadel on drums -- the Los Angeles-based five-piece lean into a cleaner spin on despondent grunge-gaze and far out hyperviews, thanks to a combo of recording engineering by Philip Odom (CEREMONY, Portrayal of Guilt) and mastering by Alex Newport (At the Drive-In, Bloc Party.) Ook al heeft veel te maken met “pieken op de juiste momenten”, Matthias gaat zijn Olympische medaille én huidige wereldtitel nog meer koesteren dan ooit tervoren denk ik.

Soms begrijp ik die IJF-commentatoren niet: tijdens het overlopen van de categorieën bij aanvang van de dag, geen woord van Sheldon Franco-Rooks en Dennis van der Geest over Joonhwan Lee,... gewoon niet-voorbereid, full stop. Taehyung arrived in Nadel with a small amount of prestige. He was welcomed by the president and his security detail, along with his wife. After the public greetings, they sped off to the personal home of President James Lee. The two of them shared a car during the trip.

“Did you take your medication, Protector Kim?” The president kept his eyes on the window, gazing out into what was previously Australia.

“You can never be too careful, President Lee.” Taehyung smirked as he looked out the opposite window. He had religiously taken CormeumXx since he was a child, as his family had been part of the Black Moon for two generations. He knew since he was a teenager the extra ingredient that had been added to prevent any disease related to THS to effect him.

“Excellent. We will start the process this afternoon.” The president’s voice was filled with fake cheer.

“The chairman has given me permission to act as his direct representative.” It might have been a slight white lie, but Chairman Kim trusted him enough to make him in charge of all the processing of the detention centers of the civilized world.

“Is he aware of the exact details, Taehyung?” Mr. Lee turned toward him, eyes narrowed. Taehyung only glanced at him, the smirk still on his lips, and turned back to the window.

“Do you really want to know the answer to that, Mr. President?”

The silence that followed told Taehyung the president did not want the answer. When they arrived at Mr. Lee’s personal home, Taehyung made himself comfortable, asking the wait staff for a light lunch before his work was to begin.

OG Tokyo (day-3): Shohei Ono, het ijskonijn; en Kosovo heeft nu 2x Olympisch goud !

“ijskonijn”, maar met de positieve connotatie: onverstoorbaar, koelbloedig.  Shohei Ono (°92; Jpn; 13° WRL): wat een druk moet er liggen op die kerel... En waarom dan precies ? Wel, ondertussen staat Soichi Hashimoto doodleuk 1° op de WRL natuurlijk (al een tijdje trouwens; maakte wel een blunder op het recente WK), en vocht Ono amper 2 tornooien in de laatste 2 jaar: werd wereldkampioen in 2019 (zijn 3de WK-titel overigens) en won de GSL Düsseldorf in 2020,... and that’s it; zijn laatste nederlaag dateert van Dec-2014, toen hij de finale verloor van de GSL Tokyo tegen landgenoot Hiroyuki Akimoto (°86; Jpn; ook geen veelwinner, maar schreef wel Rio, Paris, Düsseldorf en 3x Tokyo op zijn naam). Dus ik vermoed dat de natie dan gewoon verwacht dat ge goud pakt ? En zo geschiedde....

13° WRL... dat betekent dus ook ‘non-seeded’... Maar allicht is de redenering: om goud te pakken moet ik ze allemaal kloppen, en dan doet het er niet toe wanneer ik iemand ontmoet. Voor Alexandru Raicu (°96; Rou; 30° WRL) was het wellicht een eer om hier in de Nippon Bodukan te kunnen kampen tegen Ono; Bilal Ciloglu (°98; Tur; 9° WRL) vond zijn loting dan weer duidelijk een ramp, want die hoopte stiekem op podiumkansen, maar ging er dus vroegtijdig uit in 1/8-fin; tegen Rustam Orujov (°91; Aze; 2° WRL) vocht Ono de finale in Rio’16, hier werd het een 1/4-fin; en Rustam zou later verliezen van Changrim An (°94; Kor; 4° WRL) voor brons; de Koreaan moest overigens in zijn eerste kamp voorbij Fabio Basile, wat lukte.. na 8′33″min !  Balen voor de Italiaan natuurlijk. En Changrim heeft zijn medaille wel duidelijk verdiend: hij moest immers ook nog voorbij Khikmatillokh Turaev (°95; Uzb; 10° WRL; 3° Masters’21; 5° WK’21), en voorbij Tohar Butbul (°94; Isr; 7° WRL), huidig vice-Europees kampioen.

Ono op zijn beurt vocht zijn 1/2-fin tegen Tsogtbaatar Tsend-Ochir (°96; Mgl; 6° WRL): waza-ari na 53″sec in GS. De Mongool zal brons pakken tegen Arthur Margelidon (°93; Can; 8° WRL): de Canadees, die een beetje ‘à la Kelmendi’, de fout (onoplettendheid) van zijn leven maakt en na 32″sec moet afkloppen voor een armklem ! 

En een gedroomde finale tenslotte: Ono - Lasha Shavdatuashvili (°92; Geo; 3° WRL; huidig wereldkampioen (2021), goud /-66kg OG London’12, brons /-73kg OG Rio’16). Het staat nu onderling 3-0, na eerdere duels in 2016 (OG London) & 2019 (WK Tokyo). Leuk om weten misschien: Shavdatuashvili is blijkbaar de énige Georgiër tot dusver met een Europese titel, én een wereldtitel én een Olympische titel. >> sasae-tsuri-komi-ashi van Shohei na 9′26″min (waza-ari). ps: Ono vocht 2′41″min met 2 shido’s, maar kreeg terecht geen 3de. Hij domineerde duidelijk het laatste derde deel van de kamp.  

Overall een prachtig podium natuurlijk ! En euh, het ijskonijn was na afloop toch wel duidelijk opgelucht en geëmotioneerd:-). Je zou voor minder natuurlijk.

Ono’s reactie bij het zien van Kosei Inoue (°78), de Japanse headcoach. Shohei deed nu beter dan zijn sensei: beiden 3x wereldkampioen, maar Inoue behaalde maar één Olympische titel.   >> video OG  M/-73kg & W/-57kg: repechage, SF, Finals (NHK)

Ook in dit gewicht een zéér aantrekkelijk programma. 

Canada had uiteindelijk beslist om de nieuwe wereldkampioene Jessica Klimkait (°96; Can; 1° WRL) naar de Spelen te sturen ten nadele van Christa Deguchi (°95; Can; 2° WRL); een logische keuze denk ik afgaande op het vormpeil en de uitslagen van de laatste maanden (zo ook switchten Klimkait & Deguchi na het WK onderling van plaats op de WRL). Uiteindelijk moest Klimkait héél nipt de 1/2-finale laten aan Sarah Leonie Cysique (°98; Fra; 6° WRL): Cysique was voor mij de betere (lees: meest dominante) judoka tijdens de reguliere 4′min, maar naarmate de GS vorderde bleek de Canadese meer en meer de bovenhand te halen; dat weerspiegelde zich ook in de bestraffingen: eerst 2 shido’s tegen Klimkait voor valse aanvallen; in GS 2 shido’s tegen Cysique voor passiviteit; het was dan ook sneu eigenlijk dat net Jessica uiteindelijk een 3de shido kreeg voor een nieuwe valse aanval; technisch gezien volkomen terecht, maar dat risico hoefde ze op dat moment écht niet te nemen. (nb: dat is nu net een sterke troef van Matthias vind ik, die zoiets in een wedstrijd beter dan wie ook kan inschatten !). En hier bleek nog maar eens hoe belangrijk zoiets kan zijn.  Klimkait wordt uiteindelijk 3° (w-a na 5′10″min) na een kamp tegen Kaja Kajzer (°00; Slo; 15° WRL); de Sloveense die op zich ook een schitterend parcours had gevochten met overwinningen tegen Sumiya Dorjsuren (°91; Mgl; 13° WRL),  Chen-Ling Lien (°88; Tpe; 8° WRL) en  Timna Nelson Levy (°94; Isr; 9° WRL). 

Voor Japan dan vocht natuurlijk Tsukasa Yoshida (°95; Jpn; 3° WRL).Zowel tegen Deguchi (1-2), als tegen Klimkait (2-2) had Yoshida al 2x verloren; geen van beiden kwam ze hier echter tegen; en tegen Nora Gjakova (°92; Kos; 5° WRL) die ze dan wel ontmoette in 1/2-fin stond het in onderlinge duels 4-0. Guess what happened ?  Dezelfde 4 judoka’s van de Masters in Doha’21, stonden ook hier op het podium, ... alleen de volgorde verschilt...

Jawel, Kelmendi sneuvelde vroegtijdig, maar het piepkleine Kosovo zal deze Spelen verlaten met 2 Olympische kampioenen ! Onwezenlijk. Proficiat Driton Kuka.

The Los Angeles Review of Books is now accepting applications for the 2021 LARB Publishing Workshop. A five-week intensive summer course, the LARB Publishing Workshop prepares students to succeed in the ever-changing, often seemingly impenetrable world of publishing. From June 27 - July 30, Workshop Fellows will learn from the industry professionals shaping print and digital publishing today. Speakers include Lara Blackman (Audible Originals), Nicole Counts (One World), Nicole Chung (Catapult), Evette Dionne (Bitch Media), Dennis Johnson (Melville House), Jennifer 8. Lee (Plympton), Ismail Muhammad (New York Times Magazine), Jyothi Natarajan (The Margins, Asian American Writers' Workshop), Niko Pfund (Oxford UP), Rebecca Saletan (Riverhead), Joshua Trannen (Duke UP), among others. This year, in addition to participating in lectures and workshops featuring over 50 guest speakers, Fellows will also have the opportunity to join one of two practical tracks dedicated to magazine and book production. These will culminate in the publication of our online magazine PubLab or books of their own design. This combination of practical skills, industry insights, and creative networks have helped Workshop Fellows start their own ventures or build careers in publishing. Since our inaugural program in 2017, alumni have gone on to jobs at journals, agencies, and presses such as Asymptote, Hill Nadell Literary Agency, Jack Jones Literary Arts, Random House, Red Hen Press, Stanford University Press, W.W. Norton & Co., and many more. The program is open to graduating college seniors, those who have recently graduated (alumni of any college or university), current graduate students, and people with relevant experience and interest in entering the publishing industry.
