ꕥ𓂃𓏧 (SYNOPSIS) Five years ago, the seas became unruly; there were waves large enough to drown islands, storms deadly enough to destroy anything, and monsters big enough to swallow ships. Everyone avoided the waters, never daring to stray too far from the shores. People had adapted to this lifestyle, but things changed for the worse. A report of dark mist swallowing islands and killing everything in its path was made. No one knew what it was. Everyone dreaded it, praying that it wouldn’t reach their islands. Around the same time, things changed for your family as well.

Since it is still Yeosang Day where I live, this is my contribution to celebrating our irl manhwa prince's birthday. I wanted it to be a little longer but decided that the time skip would be better suited for chapter 1, and I also wanted to let Yeosang shine here, especially because it's his birthday. It took just one storm to change the world.

Three hundred nautical miles off the coast of Crestshore, you stand on the upper deck of your father’s ship, Fougueux, regarding the horizon. Suddenly, you spot dark clouds that are approaching at a rapid pace. You love storms, but only when you’re on land. Storms bring a sense of peace to the capital of the kingdom of Sirelia, and the aftermath of the storm is stunning. Everything looks like it has been reborn once the storm passes. But on the sea, storms mean nothing but trouble. As you watch this particular storm building quickly, you feel a chill of apprehension deep in your bones, like something is going to happen. This storm is angrier and far stronger than any you have ever seen, and you have seen multiple storms during the thirteen years of your life.

Heavy footsteps approach from behind; the purposeful strides and confident gait of your father cause you to turn around. He, too, is watching the horizon with a frown that mars his usually kind and peaceful disposition.

“You should take shelter in the Captain’s quarters,” he tells you softly, placing a hand on your shoulder and gently guiding you to the aft of the ship.

As you walk down the deck, you can’t get rid of the tingle that runs down your spine, an urgency you can’t seem to find the reason for. As the now rough waves spray you with salty water, a feeble voice cuts through the roar of the angry sea. The voice, though exhausted, carries a musicality that nestles into the deepest reaches of your heart and causes you to break away from your father.

“Y/N!”

You ignore his urgent call and grip the mahogany bannister tightly to keep your balance. You fight against the waves battering your small frame and peek at the waters beneath, only to gasp in horror. Another wave batters against the ship with an aggression that makes you feel as if the waves want to clutch at your dress and drag you down into the ocean. You choke on the salty water but manage to catch sight of the wooden raft and the body of a young boy. He seems older than you, but not by much.

“There– there’s a person,” your words are airy, and you're trembling from head to foot. It is a miracle that your father hears you and rushes into action.

Soon they have the male on deck and in the Captain’s Quarters, where you had been escorted to while the others worked to save the boy you had spotted. Now that you can see him clearly, you let your eyes wander along his frame, taking in every bit of his person. Hugging the blanket closer to yourself, you take in the way the pink strands of hair frame his face despite being sopping wet, like the silken fabric clinging to his frame, tarnished by whatever tragedy this young male had faced. Despite the frayed and ripped edges, you can tell that the fabric is expensive, for it has a shine that puts even the silk exported by your kingdom—known for being the best fabric in the world—to shame.

As you let your eyes follow the high angle of his cheekbones and the delicate elegance of his person, you realise that bruises and scrapes dot his skin. Worried, you approach the unconscious male gently and press two fingers to the pulse point on his neck, just like your tutor had shown you. You’re relieved to feel the faint ebb of blood beneath his skin and release a breath you didn’t know you were holding when you note that there doesn’t seem to be any heavy bleeding.

That night, much after the storm has passed and the healer has tended to the young boy’s injuries, you find yourself by his side, unable to sleep a wink. As you look at the sea from the small window in the cabin, a sense of dread settles in your bones. Something is wrong with the sea, you can’t exactly tell what it is, but there’s a dangerous undercurrent that wasn’t there before.

You hear a weak groan and whip your head towards the boy, only to catch his eyes fluttering open. He gasps for breath and tries to get up, but you press a firm yet gentle hand to his shoulder, urging him to lie back down.

“The healer said you must not move for at least a few days, your ribs are bruised, and you have many other injuries,” you speak in a tone that seems far more mature than what the boy would have expected from a girl your age, and he is surprised. Somehow, you remind him of his friend from back home.

“H-how long was I out?” His voice is slightly raspy from disuse and probably also due to the salty water he had gulped down when he was drowning.

“I’m not sure,” you tell him honestly. “You were unconscious when we fished you out of the sea. Do you want some water?” You add as an afterthought.

The boy nods thankfully, and you bring a glass to his lips, helping him swallow some.

“Where am I?” the boy asks. “And… who are you?”

“You’re onboard Fougueux, and we’re sailing towards the Kingdom of Sirelia,” you answer in a softer tone. “I’m Y/N. And you are…?”

“Yeosang.”

You nod. Finally, you have a name for the pink-haired boy, you are glad that he at least remembered things about himself. The healer had been worried about the possibility that he would suffer from memory loss.

“How did you get here? And where are you from?” you finally ask. You have been curious about it for a while now.

“I don’t remember,” Yeosang mumbles after a while. “The last thing I remember is the storm and huge waves.”

Oh dear, looks like the healer was right, you sigh.

You send him a small smile, though, “That’s okay. You’re safe here, Yeosang. Now, you should get some more rest. I’ll inform the healer that you have woken up and will be back with something for you to eat, you must be famished.”

Yeosang's stomach growls at the prospect of food, and you giggle at the redding of his ears.

What i like/dislike about them

He went from "i respec my opponents" to a fuckin machosist- and pretty much went goth lmao, also his nicknames Kaiser (s1) to HELL KAISER and considering that a few of the cyber dragons names are German (numbers or something) and having learnt in history that kaiser practically means Emperor (bc before a government there was a kaiser) so that would practically translate it to HELL EMPEROR its kinda a pretty badass nickname

I'll be honest I didn't like the whole thing of his heart being weak and on the verge of a heart attack thanks to (apparently cyberdark dragon??) it was just concerning, and i hate how dying in the darkworld didn't mean that the heart could be still bc when they brought him back in s4 he still had that weak heart it was annoying, and why did it only just get so bad in season 4 that he needed operation then, they should've dealt with it as soon as they first knew there was an issue with his heart.

What i like about their appearance

That edgy goth outfit 👌🏻

it's a pain to draw but it's legit cool.

Also the fact that he's a dark teal definitely sheds light that teals not always light (metaphorically and actually at the same time)

Do i prefer to use dub or sub names for them?

Excuse me if you went with the dub you don't get the cool nicknames! So definitely Ryo over zane bc hell kaiser is a superior nickname.

Favourite card they used

Cyber end Dragon. I've even got about 4 or 5 copies of it irl, its that iconic (also i just happened to have the cyber legendary dragons deck and of brought packs of Leg duelists 4)

Proshipping- AGAIN THE SHORT N TALL DYNAMIC IS SUPERIOR.

Idolshipping- i don't mind this one considering it makes sense considering that Ryo and fubiki were/still are close friends in/since their first year at DA.

Machosistshipping yeah in a sense it's a crack paring but they do kinda have similar mindsets in terms of pain n suffering i guess (one feels alive with pain) (the other believes pain and suffering is a way to share love) it does work

HIM AND EDO PLAYING HOUSE IN DARKWORLD

well other than that it's gotta be in 146 when he's just going through dueling the PTSD judai practically having the will to actually let him die due to loss although making him realise of judai's hesitation and how its affected how he duels, right before the duel he asks judai this. "Can you save Johan?" and as the audience we know as he was currently he wouldn't be able to despite the determination, the refusal to use polymerisation in a deck that specifically relys a LOT on fusion just affects his dueling ability on a whole serious level, and the hell kaiser was going to make sure judai knew how far he'd fallen. (and im glad that his heart did stop him from actually killing judai that time even though im not exactly sure what stopped the duel his heart or cyber end Dragon being concerned)

Least favourite scene they were in

Having camula beat his ass, and she even got sho involved just to be a bitch, i mean hey neither him or chronos deserved to loose to her but yeah. It's just annoying that happened.

Would i fuck marry or kill them?

He's too edgy for any of them.

i know i haven’t put out pictures of ripley kaiba but heres some hcs about my yugioh gx au and some of the characters mentioned in it. for now this is all i have to write, but i’ll get to other characters too, like jaden, alexis, bastion, seto, mokuba, etc. its under read more cause it’s long!!

in general hc about this au

this entire au is a big mix of yugioh gx, the og yugioh, and DSOD (which its based on the manga). so im picking them apart to make this au.

seto is 25 in this au and mokuba is 19. they are a bit older in this au.

in this au, seto is a little more involved. every year he’ll check up on Duel Academy, as well as South, West, East, and North Academy. mokuba would tag along too, just so he can see her sister.

considering how well he’s doing as president of KC, he was also the brains behind the academy's so he made preparations to make these schools for duelists when he was 21. three months after seto turned 23, duel academy was already built, then North, South, East, and West Academy in that order later that year.

this au will be using cards that are never seen before in gx like synchro, xyz, pendulum, and link monsters just so things are written more easier to me and to make an excuse for ripley having a rokket deck cause wow i love that deck so much (i have the IRL cards as well haha).

mokuba does duel in this au and he uses a thunder dragon deck shown in duel links (this is from the DSOD world and i think OG world has him a blue eyes deck I think??? not sure).

this au sets two years after DSOD! (ripley was 14, mokuba was 16, and seto was 23 then)

jaden does have yubel after they fuse together with super polymerization in this au.

season 4 of yugioh never happened in this au because the entire thing is just poorly written. they done mai dirty in the season. (but they’ve done everyone dirty in the season tbh).

not sure if i want to do this but i am thinking about bringing the vrains characters into this for a yugioh crossover of sorts, just cause 1) i really like vrains, 2) i kinda wonder what happens when someone has the same deck as the other duelist with ripley vs revolver (cause they both have the same deck) 3) in og yugioh they mention in two filler arcs about virtal reality, so the LINK VRAINS is basically another virtual reality or more so cyberspace than anything else that you can have an avatar for each person that goes to LINK VRAINS. so in this au, i might consider bringing LINK VRAINS as a cyberspace just for crossover purposes.

in this au, professor viper is alive because jaden saved him from falling off the platform they were in. after everyone returned to duel academy, viper is arrested for endangering the students and professors.

ripley kaiba

ripley is agender and her pronouns are she/her/they/them. she keeps this a secret and the only ones who know are seto, mokuba, chazz, bastion, alexis, shepard, crowler, and jim.

in contrast to her brother, seto, she’s laid back and quiet. most of the time lets her dueling do the talking for her when risen to the challenge. she’s rather hesitant to make friends because she did have her friendship betrayed before and people have made assumptions about her being stuck up as her older brother, leaving her isolated during school. but she did have a few friends and has made two best friends during school. bastion misawa and alexis rhodes. this is why bastion and alexis know each other when they arrive to duel academy. for some reason, she had no problems with making friends with jaden, because he knew bastion and alexis. no walls were up that are needed for their friendship

prior to this au, two years ago, ripley has won several local duel monsters tournaments in domino city, including a KC Grand Championship win. in said tournament, because she won the tournament her prize (other than winning a trophy) was facing yami yugi for the title of King of Games, but she lost to him. however, since she won the tournament itself, she is still awarded the trophy for winning the KC Grand Championship. for this tournament, she used a deck used that was based around dragons. but the rokket deck wasn’t built until a year after the KC Grand Championship.

when she arrives at duel academy, she starts off in the Ra Yellow dorm. this would last until her third semester, where she ranked up to an Obelisk Blue.

she can see duel monster’s spirits, even her own duel monster spirit, Kaibaman. she had the card when she was a kid and he usually comes up when having a chat with her or needing some advice.

ripley has a rokket deck when she joins duel academy, just to follow the theme of having a dragon deck like her brothers. she does have other decks including a magnet warrior deck, an aroma deck, vendread, and three fan made decks called the ‘Star’ deck, Geo Dragon Deck, and Phantom Dragon Deck. The Star deck is a deck that’s based around Space, the solar system, ands constellation. Cards of said deck may or may not be based off of other characters of cartoons, anime, video games, etc, for a spacey twist. Geo Dragon deck is based on rock minerals and based on the periodic table as the entire deck is a rock type monsters as dragons. Phantom Dragons are based on various ghosts and demons in various mythology.

in the first school semester of Duel Academy, Ripley is 16 years old, 17 years old in the second semester, and 18 years old in the third semester. However, after Season 3 when everyone was back from the Other Dimension. She transfers schools and goes to South Academy a month later (when Season 4 starts i think???). the whole ordeal left her stressed, extremely nervous, and had a series of panic attacks whenever she’s remembered the incident.

something to think about if i add it: i’ve been playing around with an idea where she has an old device or ancient artifact that she found when she was little and there’s a soul that’s been trapped in there for centuries. not necessary a past incarnation, but like a ghost companion that follows ripley around. kinda like how astral is with yuma. there she’ll have like two companions. this and kaibaman. maybe like a barian ghost??? or an entirely different entity??? im in the process of fleshing this out tho.

ripley, zane, syrus, alexis, bastion, and chazz all went to the same school together before they went to duel academy. that’s why they all more or less know each other.

jim crocodile cook

since the anime or manga doesn’t mention his age, i’m gonna hc him as 16 in his first semester of South Academy, 17 years old in the second semester, and 18 in the third semester. however, the manga does say his birthday is March 14 so that’s his birthday in this au.

in the English dub, he’s Australian so i’m keeping that in this au.

after the other dimension incident, he goes straight back to south academy, along side the other overseas champions to go to their respective school on the same boat.

he was a little bit quiet and reserved than usual, even around shirley. even so shirley still kept him company just as before. that duel with the supreme king left him with nightmares sometimes and he would wake up so suddenly in the middle of the night.

since jim’s eye of orichalcum when it was used to bring jaden back to his old self, he has an eye patch to cover up his eye.

when he gets out to get some fresh air, sometimes he’ll catch ripley out at night too. so the two would just talk about their day and whatever was on their mind. in south academy there is a small beach area and they duel there sometimes to take their mind off of the stress they previously had.

he has parents, its just that in this au his parents have neglected him when he was younger. before he would go home to his foster parents, he had the eye injury and the eye of orichalcum over his said injury. his foster parents had no idea what to do with shirley, who had been following him since he saved her and were very concerned every time she would go near him. they trust Shirley enough for her to be with Jim when he went to enroll to South Academy with her.

his foster parents adore jim and they are both geologists and paleontologists in their own right.
