Go tired of seeing "old hedgehog" designs of sonic and shadow with them just having greyed out quills and decided to do something about it

So yeah qpr sonadow (yeah shadow is 50+ fucking finally. Im considering giving him a cane. An asthetic or an actual one idk. Maybe both?)

Sonic grew his quills out (wanted a kind of longhair rockstar kinda hair thing idk if i achiebed i though. Also still unsure on what he'd wear so i just slapped on his sa2 beach costume and added sandals (and possibly socks).

(Oh and there a scar from the Mephiles blast on his stomach- as well as top surgery scars because of course he had top surgery its sonic)

(Oh and also the "old lady swagger" sonic is just him crossdessing/going lady mode because he always rocks the look )

Shadow styled/shortend his quills and i put him in a nice black collared sweater. He wears glasses because my guy has eye problems

(Btw. Im horrible at telling ppls ages so if they dont feel old then idk what to tell you guys i have no idea what aging is at this point)

Then, instead of simply making old yaoi i ended up getting obbessed (and happy) and started making everyone old

So next up was amy and Blaze. (Silver is here too)

I think theyre a little bit on the younger side of the old yaoi? I did consider the fact that some people age differently (some look older whilst others look younger) so Amy and Silver got the more "youthful-ish" complexion whilst Blaze and Espio got the more older one.

Thoughhh im still working on their design. I can always make older old lady Amy (now that i think about it i should 100% make Amy a granny looking buff woman because i feel like thats beautiful)

Either way amy and Blaze kept their uh.. "hair" short. Amy still wears supergirly clothes and Blaze wears more masculine type clothes nothing else.

Next is espilver

You cant sue me for making Silver a short king menace to society.

Not really much on design so far other than Silver is way more plump (pearshaped) now because life got better, and Espio is taller because what is he if not a tree?

Ask them how they met? It was at bowling. Why bowling? Its because thats less weird then "was investigating the multiple crimes husbando commited and ended up getting said yet-to-be husbando arrested, but after he got out we totally fucked"

Yeah

Oh, and because i couldnt choose, Espio is trans AND intersex! Yeah!

Also Amy is silvers ex (Silver has like.. 2 exes... Possibly more?)

And then theres everyone else who arent a "ship" persay:

So i call this the moreso young adult group with Tails, Charmy, Ray and Cream.

Tails (in college) and Charmy (not in college) obviously hang out and play videogames.

Cream, because when she was little she didnt get invited to fight deadlt monsters, grew up, and decided shes going to fight deadlt monsters. So i tried to make her a cool suit but idk.. it needs reworking cause the whole "secret agent" vibe works! But not the way i like.

Rouge is forever foxynand will continue to be the most attractive woman on planet earth no matter what age. Shes also still a meance to socitey and we will forever love the jewel thief (old) woman.

Knuckles doesnt cut his quills so those shits are LONG hes also old as well but idk what he'd wear

And yes Metal (also Chaos) is here too. Metal is a bit rusty (literally) but overall well kept and fancy. I think eggman would be dead by now, so i gave it a crown on its ears to symbolize how it took over i guess.

OKAY SHIPKIDS:

Blaze x Amy ( bio kid): Flare (was thinking "Spark" because of the love idea but idk yet)

Espio x Silver (bio-kid): Greybell

And then heres the fun part:

So Sonic and Shadow dont function like the others here, in that- while saving the world and whatnot, every so often they'd either find a kid following them (similarly to Amy and Tails back in the days) or save a kid during their whole adventure.

The first time this happened was just Luca (a black jaguar) who followed Sonic during one his little solo adventures and Sonic was like "do you have parents i can take u back too" and she was like "nah" so of course, after seriously looking for her parents through ppl with database accesses like tails and rouge, he was like "u wanna stay with me?" And Luca was like "YEAH!"

And then Sonic called Shadow like "Shadow do u want kids" and which he replied "what?" And then suddenly they adopted Luca. This is how it began.

Eventually, as one grew up, theyd find another, and then another and then well now they have like 11 kids in total.

Now, after ALL of this, they took a break and after that years worth of a break were like "wanna make a kid? Like for the challenge of having to that from scratch"

And sonic was like "what?"

So they hit up the labs and made a bio kid who is 2 months old and is the most hectic fucking thing theyve ever had to deal with so thanks for the prior 10 experinces (alas they do not compare to the mega menace)

oh yeah i finally watched the 2020 sonic movie with my roommate last night. here are my thoughts

dr robotnik was clearly the highlight, and whatever he had with his assistant was fun to watch. making him skinny was a crime though.

the main human character is both nothing and a cop. i felt completely nothing for him. it would have been more enjoyable if sonic and eggman were joined by the rest of their colorful cast because the new characters are very boring (aside from the aforementioned gay assistant). he was less even than "some guy" because he seems like the guy youd pull out of an advertisement. and youre supposed to root for him and think hes cool and charming

i liked the slo-mo scenes and some of the visual effects. sonic was cute. the bar fight was silly and its kind of funny when dr robotnik was like "where did these guys go" and the guy was like "im not gonna tell you" and he was like "ok".

there were a lot of product placements, like a lot. they were very distracting and unnatural. actually a lot of the dialogue was unnatural, but the way the main guys wife took us out for a lingering shot of the zillow website...

okay, why did the guy's sister-in-law get so much shit?? all she did was not like him and tell his sister that she thinks she should leave him. which like.. come on, this is a black woman who doesnt want her sister to marry a white cop, i dont think thats extremely unreasonable? and also over the course of the movie he is publicly declared a violent criminal. but the movie acts like she is unreasonable for not liking him, and she also gets made fun of, her house broken into, restrained, and her car gets stolen and destroyed... like this is a lot of stuff happening that we are supposed to laugh about but she really didnt do anything wrong. even if her dislike of him was irrational i dont think she deserved that. this part bothered me the most i think. why do we hate this lady

my roommate says its part of sonic lore but the like. tribal race of "bad guys" who were trying to kill sonic in the beginning rubbed me wrong

how did the main humans find sonic's cave and transport it all to their home? how did they find it? sonic asks this too but they just laugh???

overall 5.5/10 robotnik really saved this movie hard. i havent seen the sequel yet and for now ill pretend jim carrey gained a lot of weight for the role to keep myself sleeping at night

i got my new tablet and so far its pretty nice! here, i drew up some stuff for my sonic forces au hehe. someday id like to produce a legit comic for it, so if youd like to know more, ive put some context under the read more :)

SONIC FORCES AU (official title still pending)

okay, i think its fair to say that sega did a poor job writing a war story with any kind of point and the confusing tone is frustrating, so my au takes the dark themes present in the game and actually follows through on expanding upon them.

it always bothered me that sonic just lets eggman go even though he almost took over the planet in a literal war he started, displacing and killing (er, roboticizing?) thousands, if not millions of mobians. i dont care that infinite was the stronger threat - eggman is still responsible for finding the phantom ruby and teaming up with infinite to begin with. why would anyone allow eggman to get away with something on this scale of destruction???

obviously sega has to keep their games formulaic and they cant just kill eggman or something, but this is the one storyline where allowing him to get away doesnt work in my opinion. the unusually high stakes implied/explicitly stated versus the practically nonexistent consequences leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

this au takes a more realistic approach to the aftermath of the war. eggman has been captured by the resistance and imprisoned indefinitely and sonic, for whatever his reasons may be, doesnt believe eggman should be imprisoned. he advocates for his release and this causes massive backlash across mobius. soon enough, tensions rise so high that a riot breaks out in front of his home.

you could argue that this may not justify burning his house down, but sonic is not supposed to be in the right here either and his comment about peaceful protests is intentionally a pretty bad, tone deaf take. im sick of sonic's characterization as a perfect hero who is always in the right and always happy, so i decided that this would turn into a negative trait in the context of a war story.

so, being really into the superhero deconstruction genre lately, thats sort of the tone im aiming for here as well.

i dont want to give too much of the story away though, so youll just have to wait until i write and draw so more (or check out my sonic blog, though i consider the designs to be a bit outdated. also, it will no longer be called 25 years later! take the old stuff with a grain of salt, ive got lots of new ideas now hehe)

Arthur and the Invisibles (2007) is a one of the worst movies I’ve ever watched

I remembered watching this movie as a kid and felt pretty nostalgic about it. While scrolling for a movie to watch today, me and my bf ran into it and wanted to see if the movie lived up to how cool we remembered it from our childhood.

So for quick plot summary for those who don’t know what this movie is: Arthur is this 10 year old boy living with his grandmother in the countryside. He occupies himself with grandpa’s studies of small creatures (called the Minimoys) in their backyard. It’s also explained that his grandfather earned rubies as a gift from helping out this one African tribe, and hid it in the backyard (presumably with those creatures).

His grandfather, however, disappeared and his grandmother is in deep debt. Some guy in a suit pressures them that he will own their land if the grandfather doesn’t come back and they don’t pay their debt in 2 days. Arthur finds the secret his grandfather was hiding and finds a way to get to the miniature, underground world of the Minimoys with the help of the African Tribe (who lives somewhere in their backyard I guess???).

The rest of the movie is about the journey he takes with the Minimoys to find the rubies (and fight the bad guys who have it) and eventually find his grandfather (who was a prisoner from that bad guy). Grandpa comes back and they pay back their debt with the rubies, happy ending yay the end.

SO excusing the eerily-looking animation and how gross it made me feel (I’m mostly talking about the numerous giant-sized insects they animated with high detail)...

...the content in this movie is completely trash. Throughout the whole movie, the PACING WAS SO RUSHED AND TERRIBLE. This went for both the pacing of the plot and dialogue!! Things escalated so quickly, from one thing to the next, event-wise and with how characters felt about one another. Like you dont even know,, things happened SO FAST. And this was mostly a result of how choppy and quick the dialogue was. THEY TALKED LIKE A BAD ANIME DUB, one line after the next after the next after the next. And basically all their lines were exposition or them explaining things (like what they were holding, what they were doing, etc)??

OH and the love interest... the love interest.

Right off the bat, her personality was mildly irritating.. Her personality summarized is the stereotypical “I’m not like other girls, i don’t need you to protect me” kind of girl. And personally, I’m all for girls being independent,, like power to girls!! The problem with her is the constant remarks she makes to remind the audience that she’s “not like other girls and doesnt need protecting.” I’m sure that 80% of her dialogue in this movie is a sarcastic line towards someone that radiates negative energy. It’s just not the type of character you’d want to watch on screen because of how negative they sound. (Then as you’d expect because tropes, she becomes softer after falling in love with Arthur)

IMPORTANT THING ABOUT THE ROMANCE IN THIS MOVIE THAT MADE ME UNCOMFORTABLE: So the protag is 10 years old (I’m assuming but he looks and sounds 10). Love-interest-princess acts like she is mentally 16-18, but she’s actually 1000 years old. But it’s “okAY” because 1000 years in her world is actually 10 years in the human world. She’s voiced by Madonna by the way, if that adds anymore to image I’m trying to describe. idk man, i was just super uncomfortable seeing this girl open-mouth kiss this 10 year old kid TWICE in this movie (she initiates BOTH times).

OH and they get married after knowing each other for a day and arthur becomes king i guess

Also THESE are an actual screenshots of things that happened in this movie:

Arthur touched love-interest-princess’ chest and then took the lace off of her top, making her let out this weird scream. She has to cover her chest for the rest of the time until she gets the lace back

Arthur opens a car door for love-interest princess then gets a view of her ass?? then pogs the fvck out???

The jokes were tasteless and inappropriate for a children’s movie. There were just SO MANY moments that made me feel super uncomfortable (whether it was a joke or not). My bf and I seriously had to question if we were watching a kid’s movie.

They had a scene where they drank this green smokey drink at a club with Snoop Dog (LITERALLY IM NOT JOKING THISGUYISVOICEDBYSNOOPDOG) and green smoke came out of their mouths

Also Snoop Dog hits on love-interest-princess who is an obvious minor, and flexes that he has 7 wives

Arthur underage smoking:

Arthur’s parents come back to visit (cuz they've been away for a while) and his dad was scared of the African Tribe staying by their house. The dad runs away to the grandma and she asks “what’s wrong” then he says “five..” Grandma responds with “five what?” then he plain out screams “BLACK” with exaggerated gestures. uh EXCUSE ME????

im sure the african tribe stereotype this movie was depicting was pretty offensive in itself too...

And there was a scene where the bad guy (voiced by David Bowie) explained why he was evil. Apparently it was because people thought he was ugly and because he kissed some insect that made him contract ugly disease while he was drunk (he actually says he was drunk and the way he talked made it seem like it was equivalent to a one night stand)

and lastly, just a little nitpick but i HATE this guy’s voice (he’s the bad guy’s son). He sounds like a horrible Eggman impersonator with a lisp and with rocks stuffed down his throat. I’m sure with every word he says, saliva flies out of his mouth.

Yeah I guess you have to acknowledge it was 2007, but you can’t deny this movie is still very uncomfortable to sit through and it does not excuse some of the things that happened here.

So uh overall.. bad movie is bad and I had a bad time. You can watch it if you want to experience what I had to. I won’t stop you.

I was gonna write about the sequel on here, but I think I’ve written enough. I’ll save that for a different post if I feel like it. Just know that the sequel ends with a Kidz Bop-styled cover of Poker Face by Lady Gaga that chants the bad guy’s name in the beginning of the song (in the link they pitched the audio but it doesn’t change how bad the song is so its ok)

Hi, I'd like to take a moment to talk to you all about boom! Shadow :)

I'd also like to preface this by saying I have nothing agaisnt boom and I dont actually understand why people dont like it when it's just a fun series. (Its not even canon cmon)

I'll talk abt the series first, since shadow appears more than once there.

His first episode is, hm, to say the least. Rouge and omega arent canon characters in boom, leaving him with absolutely no friends, and I'm also gonna guess that gun and Maria werent canon either. (This brings up alot of questions on how he came to be but that's for another day.)

His first episode has eggman manipulating footage of sonic "slandering him", he falls for it pretty easily (again, gun worker shadow would never) and goes on a mini rampage to attack sonic and friends.

This is, out of character, to say the least, shadow going so far as to try and not fight tails in sonic x when he was trying to get to Cosmo. He also holds a great respect for Amy, (and I dont think he has a solid opinion on knuckles, it changes from annoyance to tolerance on a whim.)

The fact that sonic is genuinley confused as to why shadow is randomly attacking them is also incredibly telling that a. His character is wrong and b. Shadow is not normally like this, but then again, shadows character has more flip flops than a Florida man.

The second episode he appears in is mostly just him being angry at eggman and wanting to beat up sonic, which, okay, wanting to be better than sonic is (unfortunately) part of his post adventure 2 character arc. It's a pretty entertaining episode if you havent gone into shadows character too much. He also says the next time they fight it will be on his terms, which.. no it wont sadly boom was cancelled.

Honestly though, hes just lonley, it also canon in boom that he lives in a cave alone, (couldnt even give the man a house huh?) So hes bound to be just a lil lonley.

To the games then because that's all we get from our boy in the series.

Rise of lyric is pretty generic when it comes to shadow being in the game, he appears for a boss fight and a cameo at the end, the boss fight is.. interesting, honestly.

Theres a brief cutscene with shadow and eggman, but shadow dosent speak and hes not seen again till the boss fight.

The cutscene before has pretty "normal" shadow dialogue, calling sonic weak because he has friends, which I'm starting to see a pattern here. Sonic also knows who shadow is, and tries to dismiss him pretty quickly.

He does get angry when shadow insults his friends however, which is pretty in character, and they initiate the boss fight with shadow saying hes going to prove how weak sonic is.

(Obviously, you win, your the player.)

The last we see of shadow for the rest of the game is him awkwardly stumbling after being beaten. (they animated his ears to droop too, not relevant, just cute <3)

Hes kicked through the portal and you go about your game. Sonic also does ask what time he was sent too, so he does care, even a little.

He appears again at the end of the game, no explanation as to how he got back, and is immediately ready to fight until he sees the defeated lyric. He then stops and walks away, claiming that sonic and co got the job done.

(We're never explicitly told what side hes on in this game, but hes certainly not working for lyric.)

Shattered crystal is up next, again, pretty generic, but better than the last.

Sonic actually greets him sarcastically in this game, as if he were a friend, and gets confused when shadow (who's being mind controlled) acts strange. He initially is not hostile, but on the assumption that shadow knows where the kidnapped Amy is, he does get briefly angry.

Then a mini boss fight, and shadow wakes up, no longer mind controlled, and acting like a feral cat that's been caged, hes just as confused as sonic and friends are and it probably didnt help that knuckles wanted to knock him out again.

Then when they start trying to question him about Amy, he gets defensive almost instantly, and insults sonic, before remarking that he was talking to lyric before he blacked out. He then tells sticks very firmly that he is not working for lyric and passes the mind control device to tails.

(Again, very calmly passes it, flip flop flip flop)

Once they figure out lyric mind controlled shadow, hes angry, and immediately sets off to find lyric to fight him for using him. Sonic tries to stop him, but theres no stopping shadow when his minds set on something.

We don't see him again for the rest of the game, until he shows up and actually deals the final blow to lyric, he sticks around to listen to sticks get the concept of teamwork wrong, and then leaves, insulting them all again. (Are we seeing a pattern here?)

Sonic then tries to say that they did beat lyric as a team, but shadow is having none of it, and leaves, calling himself Sonics superior. Sonic then says he'd make a great member of team sonic if he werent such a hard case.

Shadow dosent appear in fire and ice, so.

The main theme of boom shadow is pretty much just a massive inferiority complex around sonic, and a whole bunch of insults towards his friends.

Again, shadow has 0 canon friends in boom, and is seemingly annoyed by just about everyone, but it's also not out of the question that he'd end up sucked into the friend group should he ease up on his temper.

For all his talk of being weak for having friends, its my guess that he dosent want to be seen as weak, given how quick he was to fight sonic for such minor (and fake) insults against him. He has no friends and distances himself because he wants to be "strong".

Boom!shadow is certainly not the same as sa2 shadow, and I think if they met, sa2 would be, very embarrassed to say the least.

I could talk about shadows character all day but this has been long enough so uhh, yeah :)

alright its time for me to post about sonic now. nobody asked for this.

personally. i think that the decline of sonic games is. well. nonlinear of course but its a combination of a lot of things that have been present for a while. i started thinking about this because i had knight of the wind stuck in my head while i showered and i thought “yknow i dont think the storybook games were that bad” and it evolved from there. readmore’d cuz its a longass post

first off. one of the things that was present in the games people consider “bad” is eggman NOT being the primary antagonist. i mean. fundamentally this makes sense. eggman has always been the primary antagonist in the games since the beginning, so suddenly introducing these throwaway villains is kind of a shot in the foot. what comes to mind is sonic lost world and the zeti because its like. sega wants us so badly to care about zavok and the rest of them but its just kind of difficult when theyre from yknow. sonic lost world and, fundamentally, throwaway villains. now i thought about this because. sonic lost world ISNT objectively a bad game i dont think. it has bad parts and i think those bad parts are mostly linked to the zeti being the primary antagonists. now this isnt saying that any game with eggman as the primary antagonist is good (ill get to forces later) but it plays a part.

now i couldnt entirely tell you when “eggman ISNT the primary antagonist” first turned up. i would assume sonic adventure because of chaos? which funnily enough links into my next point. the introduction of a secondary antagonist who either a) becomes a primary antagonist in the same game or a later game they’re part of or b) is meant to be some kind of counter to sonic. you could say it started in sonic 3. since knuckles acts as a secondary antagonist for most of the game. funnily enough though hes actually one of the only that stops being an antagonist in the same damn game. hes like “wait a second ive been fucking tricked” and turns to sonic’s side after seeing eggman doing his bastardly actions. so i’d say it actually started in sonic cd with metal sonic. he’s a reoccurring antagonist (the good kind) and was made with the sole purpose of Beating Sonic. in sonic heroes he becomes a primary antagonist in the true ending and whatever. in sonic adventure there’s chaos who becomes the primary antagonist in the true ending as well. now again. none of these games are BAD because of this aspect. sonic 3 is good, as is cd, heroes, and i think sonic adventure has its moments. but again this is just another piece to the puzzle.

the next thing i think thats sort of added to the decline is the fact that. well. corporations. yknow how it is with game design. as a game design student i know that theres fucked up shit going on in a lot of places and sega wanted to make sonic like mario. nintendo knows they have brand loyalty, just like disney does. nintendo slaps mario or pikachu onto something and it’ll sell and they KNOW that. sonic, less so, because hes yknow. got Controversy. sparks arguments about good and bad games. im particularly thinking about sonic boom here because that game had such potential that was stripped away not only by corporate greed (it being forced to be published onto the wii u, which, ill be real with you, i forgot existed) and hardware limitations, but by a lack of commuication within the actual company about WHERE the game was being published to. also dont get me started on how sega shafted the storyline. thats for another day.

overarching plot in sonic games is kind of fun in my opinion. i like a story i can get invested in. one that makes sense and like. you know. adds to the game. and this is the part where i talk about sonic forces.

sonic forces is kind of the culmination of a lot of these things. its a pander to the audience who loves classic sonic (as in, putting classic there for no reason as a nudge towards sonic generations), it features a secondary antagonist who attempts to become a primary antagonist (infinite needs work) and like. objectively id say that the phantom ruby is a bigger antagonist than eggman is. all the things that he does is down to the phantom ruby, and i dont entirely know how the phantom ruby even like. started existing. but we’ll just skip over that for now.

so eggman has infinite who he powers up with the phantom ruby and he becomes the metal sonic-esque character of the game. he’s meant to be sonic’s direct counter which is shown with infinite beating sonic at the start. but infinite just kind of. exists. as a throwaway villain. and the thing with throwaway villains is that infinite creates clones of some other villains (zavok, shadow (????) chaos and metal sonic) and that kinda confused me like. okay so you create fake versions of all these villains who turned against you for various reasons and also metal sonic??? who you could just create again??? but im going on a tangent.

the one thing i listed that forces didnt really feature was eggman not being the primary antagonist. i liked that he was the primary antagonist in forces. i just wish the story was better. and now i get to talk about story problems in sonic games. and as a writer, youre not getting spared.

ive talked abt sonic forces and story. i havent talked about other games and their story. sonic 06′s story was weak because it was trying too hard. the storybook games were good because the story was THERE. sonic gets put into this position of being a character from myths and characters we already know are filling the other positions. it was fun. sonic lost world, i dont really know cuz i never played it but from what i understood, eggman took the zeti’s planet and controlled them with a magic conch, and then the conch gets broken and the zeti fight back?? i dont know why the zeti hate sonic or why they roboticized tails but whatever.

fundamentally. sonic games are go fast. stop eggman. platform. of course eggman can be substituted for other antagonists like in adventure’s case where it becomes stop chaos. everything else in it is adding to the story (or in a lot of cases where its trying too hard, it detracts from everything) and like. adding different things is kind of fun sometimes. people didnt like the clunky controls of the werehog but i thought it was fun having the differences between daytime and nighttime levels. i think werehog had potential.

its less related but i also kinda wish they did what they did in sonic x and had sonic exist in a world with a lot of anthro animal characters instead of humans. i think forces did that okay. a lot of games have human characters like 06 and adventure, and it kind of blurs things. it doesnt make it a bad game if theres human characters but its still kind of. weird.

but anyway this wasnt clear or concise at all i just had some thoughts. i thought some of the marketing for sonic forces was funny like the welcome to the eggman empire video so you dont have to take anything from me.

I’ll talk abt the series first, since shadow appears more than once there.

His first episode is, hm, to say the least. Rouge and omega arent canon characters in boom, leaving him with absolutely no friends, and I’m also gonna guess that gun and Maria werent canon either. (This brings up alot of questions on how he came to be but that’s for another day.)

His first episode has eggman manipulating footage of sonic “slandering him”, he falls for it pretty easily (again, gun worker shadow would never) and goes on a mini rampage to attack sonic and friends.

The second episode he appears in is mostly just him being angry at eggman and wanting to beat up sonic, which, okay, wanting to be better than sonic is (unfortunately) part of his post adventure 2 character arc. It’s a pretty entertaining episode if you havent gone into shadows character too much. He also says the next time they fight it will be on his terms, which.. no it wont sadly boom was cancelled.

Honestly though, hes just lonley, it also canon in boom that he lives in a cave alone, (couldnt even give the man a house huh?) So hes bound to be just a lil lonley.

To the games then because that’s all we get from our boy in the series.

Rise of lyric is pretty generic when it comes to shadow being in the game, he appears for a boss fight and a cameo at the end, the boss fight is.. interesting, honestly.

Theres a brief cutscene with shadow and eggman, but shadow dosent speak and hes not seen again till the boss fight.

The cutscene before has pretty “normal” shadow dialogue, calling sonic weak because he has friends, which I’m starting to see a pattern here. Sonic also knows who shadow is, and tries to dismiss him pretty quickly.

He does get angry when shadow insults his friends however, which is pretty in character, and they initiate the boss fight with shadow saying hes going to prove how weak sonic is.

(Obviously, you win, your the player.)

The last we see of shadow for the rest of the game is him awkwardly stumbling after being beaten. (they animated his ears to droop too, not relevant, just cute <3)

Hes kicked through the portal and you go about your game. Sonic also does ask what time he was sent too, so he does care, even a little.

(We’re never explicitly told what side hes on in this game, but hes certainly not working for lyric.)

Shattered crystal is up next, again, pretty generic, but better than the last.

Sonic actually greets him sarcastically in this game, as if he were a friend, and gets confused when shadow (who’s being mind controlled) acts strange. He initially is not hostile, but on the assumption that shadow knows where the kidnapped Amy is, he does get briefly angry.

Then a mini boss fight, and shadow wakes up, no longer mind controlled, and acting like a feral cat that’s been caged, hes just as confused as sonic and friends are and it probably didnt help that knuckles wanted to knock him out again.

(Again, very calmly passes it, flip flop flip flop)

We don’t see him again for the rest of the game, until he shows up and actually deals the final blow to lyric, he sticks around to listen to sticks get the concept of teamwork wrong, and then leaves, insulting them all again. (Are we seeing a pattern here?)

Sonic then tries to say that they did beat lyric as a team, but shadow is having none of it, and leaves, calling himself Sonics superior. Sonic then says he’d make a great member of team sonic if he werent such a hard case.

Shadow dosent appear in fire and ice, so.

The main theme of boom shadow is pretty much just a massive inferiority complex around sonic, and a whole bunch of insults towards his friends.

Again, shadow has 0 canon friends in boom, and is seemingly annoyed by just about everyone, but it’s also not out of the question that he’d end up sucked into the friend group should he ease up on his temper.

Boom!shadow is certainly not the same as sa2 shadow, and I think if they met, sa2 would be, very embarrassed to say the least.

I could talk about shadows character all day but this has been long enough so uhh, yeah :)

Metonic Week- Machine

Metal had only been a part of Sonic’s team for a short while, after abandoning his own creator due to difficulties. Sonic had gladly accepted his metallic copy on his team, but as for Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, they weren’t entirely on board with it. Metal even knew this, but as Sonic had asked of him, he tried not to think too much of it. After all, he had so many other things to worry about. Like what if Eggman tries to control him again? What if he somehow leads his new team into danger? What if he... did something horrible to Sonic. On the outside of his thoughts, Sonic was standing beside him, tapping his foot and watching Metal’s optics going in a swirly motion.

“Uhh Mets?” He asked, “Ya doing okay, bud?”

In response, Metal spazzed out some, mostly in surprise as to Sonic’s voice suddenly chiming into his internal thoughts. His optics turned back into their usual oval shape as he looked at Sonic.

“yes. I am doing ‘okay’. Please do not... scare me.. like that again.” Metal spoke, only somewhat in his usual monotone voice, now kind of developing his own special voice.

“Fine, Metal. Anyways, Tails and I are about to go invade one of Eggmans bases! Wanna come?” Metal had noticed Sonic had his brown backpack on. The same one with an emerald colored charm. Only almost matching his bright green eye color.

After Metal gave a simple nod in response to Sonic’s offer, he, Sonic, and Tails headed out. The base was located in Chemical Plant. Of course, Sonic would have something to say about this.

“Mann! Egg-head always builds a base there, huh?”

“Well,” Tails began, “There are a whole bunch of.. well, chemicals, there for his machines. And a lot of machinery in general! That could be why he likes building so many bases there.”

“What do you think, Mets?” He looked over at the blue robot, who didn’t expect to be a part of the conversation, “why do you think Egg-head loves building bases there?”

Metal thought for a bit. “I will be honest, even though I’ve worked for him for as long as I’ve even existed... that’s a great mystery. But Tails’ answer seems to make more sense to me.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right!” Tails laughed some, causing the other two to laugh along.. even if Metal’s sounded more awkward than normal.

It took the group a few hours, but they were soon at the entrance of Eggman’s new base. Metal wondered if Eggman had even changed the entry passcode since he left him. Wouldn’t be surprising if he didn’t, considering how much of a buffoon he was.

“AAlright, Guys! So what’s the plan? Sneaking in? Busting in?” As sonic spoke, he was doing his usual pre-running stretches.

“Now hang on..” Tails had his Miles Electric out, and was using it to scan the base’s entrance and beyond, “It seems that Eggman loaded this place up with security. Even if we do sneak in, we’ll have to be a whole lot more caref-“

Tails was interrupted by Sonic. “Psh! Funny, tails. But what’s the worst ol’ Eggface can do? Catch me?” Sonic continued laughing.

“Sonic, this is Eggman we are talking about. My creator. He knows I work with you now, so he has most likely created something stronger than even myself to take care of you. Tails is right. We do need to be careful.” Metal spoke in a serious tone. Of course, being a robot, he almost always sounds serious.

“An egghead is an egghead. Even if he’s lost one of his creations, I think his limit is at you.” Sonic chuckled, “now let’s get a move on!”

“Fine..” Metal followed Sonic as the spindash drilled through the metal door, immediately afterwards dashing in. Tails stuck with his plan of sneaking in carefully.

Inside the base, it was almost pitch black dark. The only source of light Sonic and Metal had were Metal’s bright red optics, but even that made it hard to see. Sonic used his “hog-sense” to figure out where he was going, as Metal simply scanned around.

“Sonic, this really was a bad idea.. now that there’s a gaping hole in the door, that’s sure to alert someone..” Metal said, almost expecting a snarky response from Sonic.. but to his surprise, nothing. “..Sonic?” Even after that, nothing. Not a sound. He scanned around for the blue hedgehog, but nothing. Metal had a bad feeling about this. But there’s no way Sonic himself could’ve been captured, right?

Well, unfortunately, Metal was wrong. Sonic was in fact captured. Silently knocked out by Eggmans newest creation... which was literally just a spy bot. Eggman did want a new killer robot. But he currently did not have the materials to build a new Metal Sonic. So what’s just as fast and could easily be made as strong, if not stronger? The real deal. This was also a great opportunity to test out a new creation of his; the Roboticizer. A machine that can turn organic matter into machinery through a painful process. Perfect.

Metal was growing worried, but soon spotted a light. From what he could tell from silhouettes, someone was being carried into that room. Metal already had a feeling who it was, and ran towards it. Quietly and slowly however because he didn’t want to have whatever was gonna happen to sonic happen to him as well.

The spy bot dropped Sonic off inside of a cylindrical container, and left before it sealed Sonic inside. Eggman, seeing this, laughed to himself.

“Oh OHOHOH!! Not only do I get a new powerful robot, but I finally have the problem with this blue pest out of the way!!” Eggman continued to laugh before stopping himself. “Right then! Let the Roboticization process... INITIATE!!” He quickly pressed a button, just after Metal had walked in.

“RELEASE SONIC, DOCTOR. OR THINGS WILL GET MESSY.” Metal had his sharp claws out, not joking about how things would get messy.

“Ah, well if it isn’t my former robot, Metal Sonic. I’m afraid you’re too late to save Sonic now!!” Just as he finished that sentence, the roboticization process on Sonic had finished. The cylindrical container lifted, revealing Sonic... only now robotic. His optics now a red color similar to Metal Sonic’s. “Mecha Sonic.. ATTACK!”

Following the orders of Eggman, Sonic got out of the roboticizer and attacked Metal.. but oddly enough, seemed to deactivate right as he was about to actually try hurting him. Both Eggman and Metal were confused as to why this was so.

“N.. NO! HOW COULD I OVERLOOK SUCH A FLAW!!?” Eggman exclaimed, “I HAD MADE SURE THE PROGRAMMING WAS PERFECT!!”

“And yet, here I am leaving.” Metal said, as he picked Sonic up, “Oh.. and for your own safety, get lost.” Metal walked out of the room, leaving Eggman just whining about his defeat. As Metal left, he contacted Tails to let him know that an escape was required, due to what had happened to Sonic.

Hours had passed since Metal brought the now robotic Sonic back. Tails was trying to reactivate it, Amy was horribly worried for Sonic, and Knuckles was blaming Metal for all of this.

“Maybe had you just been left as scrap metal, Sonic wouldn’t be like this!” He yelled at Metal.

“Knuckles I’m sorry, but can you shut up!? It was Sonic that didn’t listen to my or Metal’s warning and rushed in anyways!” Tails was defending Metal’s case. Sure he didn’t entirely trust him yet, but he had seen the warning before his eyes.

“Oh so now you’re taking his side!? What’s next?! Are you gonna be trusting EGGMAN of all people next!?” Knuckles raised his voice. Metal has had enough by now. He went between Knuckles and Tails and of the first time, showed true emotion through his voice.

“YOU KNOW WHAT?! I get it!! I get that you don’t like me! I get that you won’t accept the fact that I have changed! That ive decided to be my own person- robot- whatever!! And I get that you would think that I would be responsible for this happening to sonic!!”

No one had known this, but Sonic was already reactivating, actually acting like himself, green optics instead of red, just in time to hear the rest of what Metal had to say, “and you know what?! I’ll accept responsibility for what happened to him! I should’ve forcefully kept him from breaking in like that! I should’ve kept a better eye on him! So you know what?! Maybe I don’t belong here after all! Maybe you’re right! I SHOULD JUST BE IN A SCRAP PILE!!” And with that, Metal stormed out. Everyone in the room was baffled. None of them, not even Sonic, had ever seen Metal like this. Sonic finally got up.

“METAL!! WAIT!!” Almost as soon as he got up off the table Tails and Metal had set him on, he had fallen down. When getting up, he finally realized what had happened to him.. or was at least getting an idea of it.

“...huh.. Well Tails.. you were right. I should’ve listened to you.” Sonic was beginning to tremble some, but soon stopped. “I’ll ask about how the heck this happened later. I’ve gotta stop Metal from doing whatever he’s probably about to do!!” Sonic ran off again, but unfortunately for him, going at a normal running pace.

“Oh come on!! GO FASTER, FEET!!” And almost as if they listened to him, he began going his usual speed. Thanks to the thrusters on his legs. Tails tried to go after him, worried that he would deactivate again, but Sonic was already gone.

It didn’t take him long to catch up with Metal, as Metal was not using his back thruster. Sonic was about to ask him to come back, but Metal beat him to the first words.

“You know.. you know it’s my fault Sonic.. dOnT you tell lies..” Metal kind of sounded like he was crying, his optics in a sad expression.

“Metal.. why would I even lie to you!? I’m not one to lie anyways!” Sonic slowed down to talk to Metal, “And assuming that you’re blaming yourself for.. this..” he motioned to the rest of his now robotic body, “well don’t. It’s my own fault for not listening to you and Tails.”

“But..” Metal robotically sighed, “What about the others? Even if you defend my case, they’ll still think it’s my fault.”

“No they won’t.. they’re only rough on you because of things you did in the past. Even then it was only because you were following your programming. But now you’re your own bot! You’ve even developed your own personality!”

“You’re.... you’re right about that.” Metal finally stopped.

Sonic stopped as well. “Now come on. Don’t go and scrap yourself over all of this. That wouldn’t be good for either of us.”

“..Alright.”

-Epilogue-

Sonic and Metal soon headed back to Tails’ workshop. Sonic had confronted Knuckles about how he basically told Metal to go kill himself, and pretty much made Knuckles apologize.

Tails began figuring out Sonic’s situation further, with Metal helping out. Unfortunately for Sonic, he would be stuck like this for the rest of his days, if not just for a long time. While this did upset the blue hedgehog, he understood that this was what he gets for going into everything head first. Metal was there to help Sonic get used to life as a robot. Their relationship began to blossom over time, causing them to begin to crush on each other... but what happens afterwards is only to be assumed.

issue #23 made me really heccin’ emo over eggman and sonic. i was prepared for it, but also ?? not prepared??? holy frick im just gonna ramble under the cut.

first of all, i’m just gonna’ idly ramble about some things i noticed.

Eggman, literally 11 issues ago:

he makes these off remarks and then changes his mind whenever it’s convenient for him smh. that or hes a freaking liar and. WELL THAT’S PRETTY TRUE HONESTLY.

i’ma be honest fam starline is a freaking mood rn. it’s ?? so dumb?? LIKE EGGMAN WHERE IS YOUR FUCKING FAILSAFE UR SOLUTION WAS “not touching the robots hurr durr” PL EASE.

In retrospect, though, this is an interesting parallel to Forces because he’d apparently learned from his mistakes. TBF, and it has been brought up elsewhere on tumblr, this is a man recovering from amnesia. He must’ve just not gotten to that part. OR HE’S JUST. DUMB AND ARROGANT. Like, yeah, sure, there’s no vaccine - lol the heroes can’t fix anything & it also means you’re valuable because you’re the one person who can. BUT COME ON EGGMAN.

my friend actually predicted this holy shit. i was rambling abt a discussion we had in the egg cult, where we were talking about the possibility of sonic infecting eggman to blackmail him into getting the cure because he’s reached the point?? hes so done with eggman’s shit??? all his friends are in danger and hes backed into a wall what else is he to do than do the one thing he doesn’t want to: use eggman’s tactics against him?

and my friend was like:

LIKE. IT IS A HUGE RISK, and Sonic went FOR IT. I’M SCREAMING TBH.

THIS CONFRONTATION WAS SO FUCKING RAW YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND. I thought I was ready for it but I really, REALLY wasn’t. I love the little details of Starline bein’ like: “oh fuck” - usually he’s pretty cocky around Sonic but uh. HE’S INFECTED NOW. And the zero remark - idk if that’s intentional on the writer’s part but ZERO TO HERO anyone?

anyway toxi broke down crying at this point. you have no idea how much i was sobbing over my blue son just. pouring out his heart to his nemesis. that’s top tier tearjerking material. also starline passive aggressively readjusting his outfit lmfao. BITCH IM FABULOUS. but man the usage of ‘ BE’ and ‘LIKE’ - Sonic knows who Eggman is; he’d never ask him to be something he’s not. but it’s also a reiteration of sonic’s want to see good in him; being LIKE tinker is a statement in that he wanted eggman to be who he was, but NOT to go back. to do good for the world. have it be his own decision, because deep deep down:

isn’t that what he really wants?

Also, although there are those sickly sweet descriptions, the usage of ellipses in this narrative really fucks me up because you can practially hear the gradual realization in eggman’s voice. his mockery starts out so !!! but it just eventually gets straight to the point, as a list. as a routine. because he was used to it. and because, some part of him misses it. notice the usage of ‘need’ and ‘use’. they needed him, and yet he used the people that appreciated him sm like puppets.

some nice guilt there, huh, doc?

ALSO I SPENT LIKE, HOURS TRYING TO FIND THIS EXACT DIALOGUE, but Eggman has a conversation in Dark Brotherhood with Sonic and makes this remark:

LIKE??? this isn’t new to his character, actually? Ignoring the ken penders thing bc smh. Going by this game he’s actually kind of okay with that set up. And he just works so well with the others too??? this isn’t even taking into account the other games he’s teamed up with them. I’m sorry but my head just goes back to this line so many times; it’s one of the ones that stick with me, along with ‘complicated guy’ from lost world. HE COULD!! legitimately do good. and he actually doesn’t find it too bad??? IM EMO MAN...

and IMAGINE making super cool things that people genuinely like... eggman has a HUGE ego, that much is very apparent; he’s super big on appreciation as comes with. and with tinker? he had that - he felt appreciated and loved. people LIKED what he made, and he didn’t have to bend over backwards to have that. his work felt included and he didn’t have to take that appreciation by force like he did with his lackeys (which half the time was fake anyway) .

first and foremost - WE SEE THAT OPEN YOUR HEART REFERENCE, IDW. also sonic’s frustration here, in comparison to the lil smile the panel before - he’s just!! “WHY CANT YOU WAKE THE FRICK UP OLD MAN”. the justification here seems a tad bit like DENIAL to me. and the justification seems... kind of odd from him? since when does EGGMAN justify anything he does? He does what he wants and when he wants, because he’s the E.G.G.M.A.N. he doesn’t care what anyone thinks... right?

it’s because - especially with the usage of better - he didn’t like where that train of thought was going. for once, he’s justifying himself - because the alternative is admitting sonic is right. that he did like that life. that he’d want to go back. throw it in a hierachy and it’s all so simple, right?

also the inclusion of open your heart lyrics here. the incident with chaos was just as catastrophic. and these lyrics in context of the previous panel, highlights how sonic and eggman both seek unity and peace but in their own ways; eggman’s is just evil. it seems a little bit of a diversion to me - to antagonise sonic and make him forget about it. what better way to do that than to relate to him? ‘own styles that we won’t change’ highlights a stubbornness in ways, too, especially with the current context of eggman denying his old life. ALSO IT IS LITERALLY TELLING EGGMAN TO OPEN HIS HEART.

and ngl this seems like idle banter to hide the fact he genuinely felt remorse for his actions for a second. because lbr he has a habit of being all talk when a plan goes wrong or suffering inside,

which starline does quite pointedly explain.

As I was saying above, Sonic has no choice in what to do now - he’s reaching his limit. OR ELSE. hes pondering doing the thing he doesnt want to do. and honestly, ‘you can’t stop me. no one can,’ is so hardhitting not just because of its looming threat, but because of how much it solidifies for sonic that he can’t take the chance anymore. if anyone is going to change eggman, it has to be himself.

also can i just cry over how much sonic trusts tails. im getting sa2 flashbacks.

also man i’d like to point out the specific use of ‘lock you away forever’. it coooould be a reference to sonic’s time imprisoned during the events of sonic forces. bitterness?

NOT SAYING I CALLED IT, BUT I CALLED IT. it still hurts though. and wow, it really is horrifying when eggman fears his own heccin’ creation, huh?

i live for sonic being passive aggressive with eggman. give me more please.

im immensely concerned the direction starline is going, honestly. but it does say a lot about eggman; how he’ll keep trying the same things expecting different results, but failing and never seeing that. because he’s EGGMAN; every plan is brilliant by default!

i love how sonic just !!! SHOT... THE MOMENT HE WAS REMINDED WHAT WAS AT STAKE. son i love you so much you’re doing great sweetie

also, man, can we talk about eggman avoiding his blatant faults, and shoving his failures onto someone else? because this little scene here - eggman ur literally the one who crashed the thing. it had absolutely nothing to do with sonic. i feel as though this is symbolism of his self-destructive nature, honestly. hes always gotta make things harder for himself. (also starline’s face is killing me)

Eggman does what he has to, but technology won’t work every time you kick it. he thinks he can get everything through force but we have several instances in idw where force did NOT work out; you’re not gonna get far, egghead.

MHM, and just who does that sound like, Eggman? honestly the mirrors between these two are seriously destroying me. although sonic is in a horrible position, so is eggman; he likes to think he’s won the war, but hes surpassed his own expectations, and that’s going to backfire on him eventually. hes stubborn to admit he has NO REIGN over this and they’re all doomed, so he’s pinning his failures / loss on Sonic.

is that the amnesia kicking ya in the shin, eggman? or sonic’s reality check? either way, the doc hates emotions. dammit man why you gotta make him emo

future eggman is going to kick past eggman in the kneecaps. it’s times like this ur reminded how much of a kid he is. eugh but that’s work i want my victory and senseless destruction now. honestly if the doc is after success, he is certainly not getting it this way and I AM FEARING FOR EVERYONE’S LIVES. he’ll probably have to work with what’s left of the resistance like the back end of most games at some point.

I’m getting a little burnt out but i can’t forget my son and how much he hurts me.

first of all that third panel terrifies me. the fact it GOT that far does me great concern. the RED EYES? that’s pushing it fam i dont like that. the expressions are also just freaking destroying me; they’ve been PERFECT this issue. and the fact sonic is at his weakest when he feels like he’s failed everyone hurts me deeply. he has SO much on his shoulders and its getting too overwhelming for him.

also man... the whole thing with eggman... just stuff me man. but it hurts all the more because it’s so glaringly clear that there is?? some good in eggman??? he just. doesn’t want to admit it. and unfortunately these aren’t good circumstances to debate on that.

ANYWAY, THAT ISSUE WAS AGONY AND IM STILL REELING AND HAVENT EVEN. TALKED ALL THAT MUCH ABOUT SONIC HERE (on account of this being eggman’s blog) but idk if i’ll write anything on that.

Writing through the decade: 12 or 13 years old?? (2010 or 2011??)

Honestly its just easier for me to think about time in terms of what grade I was in for school. I don't know if I was 12 or 13, if I decided I hated Twilight and the Hunger Games in favor of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The only thing I remember is putting myself through the hell of taking two math classes, and binge watching Sonic X with my little brother on YouTube when we got the chance. I think this was like a year or two after we got rid of dial up Internet-?

Unfortunately this means that one of my early writings for this decade was a sonic fanfic. At this time I think I was growing to hate romance in reading and film, but writing romance is what got people popular online so I did what I had to do to get readers and build a following. I'm sorry internet, its also a songfic.

Shadow winced as he continued walking through the misty rain. He held his hand to his side where his glove was stained crimson and he cursed under his breath. He lost a lot of blood and he had to fight to keep his eyes open, though of course the rain wasn’t helping his blurry vision either.

Up ahead he saw the glow of a house and someone sitting on the covered porch. It was Aurora, with her guitar and note book, probably writing a new song. As Shadow walked toward the house his mind wondered off to the first time they met.

One word, that's all you said

Something in your voice called me, turned my head

Your smile, just captured me

You were in my future as far as I could see

And I dont know how it happens, but it happens still

You asked me if I love you, if I always will

Shadow stood looking out over at the lake that wasn’t to far from where he was now. He was thinking about Maria and the girl he’d just saved from plummeting to her death. He felt that because he didn’t save Maria, that he owed it to her to save the hedgehog teens life.

He was lost in thought when he heard a quiet “Hello.” He turned to see a short black hedgehog with long quills, wavy black hair, and startling blue eyes. She looked to be about 16 and a slight blush colored her cheeks when she said, “I’m Aurora. You were the one who saved me right?”

Shadow just nodded, he noticed the notebook with her but didn’t question it. She was probably just gonna write about how she almost died and a bunch of other pointless junk.

“Thank you.” She said suddenly finding her notebook very interesting. “Can I know my rescuers’ name?” she asked her blush deepening.

“Shadow.” He said flatly and turned to leave.

“Wait!” Aurora said running up to him. “I need to ask you something.” She breathed deeply bracing herself. “If you were on Eggman’s air ship, you were working for him right? So why save me when I was falling? Why go through the trouble?”

Shadow looked back at the lake, “Would you have rather I didn’t save you?” he asked bitterly.

“That’s not what I meant.” Aurora said looking down.

Shadow looked at her. She looked really hurt, and fragile, too much like someone else he knew. “I saved you because I owed it to someone else.” He said finally looking at his reflection in the water.

“Is that the person you thinking of a second ago?” Aurora said meeting Shadow’s startled ruby eyes, causing her to blush again. “Sorry if its too personal you don’t have to say.” She said quickly.

“How did you know that?” Shadow asked slightly confused but refusing to let it show.

“Oh well, I uh can see auras, and certain emotions or thoughts radiate different colors. Like now yours is mostly grey, so I assume you keep a lot of strong emotions bottled up, but theres a little bit of orange, meaning thoughtful or curious, and when you think about a person theres a little bit of purple mixed in.” Aurora said in a nervous hurry of words.

Shadow looked at the sky when he answered, “I was thinking of a good friend of mine. And that it would make them happy if I saved you.”

Aurora’s face lit up and her blue eyes sparkled. “Well then they must be a really good person, just like you!” She hugged Shadow and took off.

At that moment Shadow made a promise to Maria, that he would do everything he could to protect Aurora.

Shadow didn’t realize he was on his knees until he looked up through the rain at Aurora’s small figure running toward him. “Shadow?” She asked as she knelt next to him. “Oh my gosh!”

He couldn’t bring himself to look at her. Instead he removed his blood stained hand from his side revealing a huge wound made by one of Eggman’s robots. Shadow winced as Aurora slid her arm around him and helped him up.

“How is it that you always get hurt the worst out of you Sonic and Silver?” She asked as Shadow draped his other arm over her thin shoulders. She could feel his eyes on her face and she tried to hide the surfacing blush. “Silent as always Shadow.” She muttered as she helped him inside the house.

Aurora lead him to a small couch by a window in the living room, and helped Shadow lay down. “Okay let me see.” She said lifting his hand.

Shadow winced but Aurora didn’t falter. “You’ve lost a lot of blood.” She said quietly. “Just try to relax. I need to get my stuff but I’ll be right back.” Aurora said talking softly like she would a wounded animal.

Shadow looked out the window across from him. The rain was coming down harder, sky was getting darker along with his vision. He felt like he wanted to sleep, but he was worried that he would never wake up if he did. He felt a hand on his cheek.

“Stay with me Shadow.” Aurora said as she got ready to stitch him up. “Here for the pain. It’ll make you sleepy, but its going to be okay.” She said handing him the pain killers, but Shadow just shook his head. “Stubborn as always, just take it. I promise you’ll wake up.” She said quietly.

Shadow took the medicine and laid back. He watch Aurora’s soft face harden as she concentrated. He couldn’t believe this small and fragile hedgehog, who would flip out if there was a spider ten feet away from her, could deal with something like this so calmly. And again his mind wondered back.

Inside I built a wall

So high around my heart, I thought I'd never fall

One touch, you brought it down

The bricks of my defenses scattered on the ground

And I swore to me I wasn't going to love again

The last time was the last time I'd let someone in

Shadow sat on the roof the house looking up at the twinkling night sky. Again he was thinking of Maria, but all the good times they shared. He’d been talking to Aurora a little more now and they were growing closer. Shadow heard foot steps below him and then saw Aurora appear on the balcony. He smirked to himself, she still wasn’t going near the railing for fear of falling. She looked at sky and sighed, she looked trouble and Shadow had a sudden urge to comfort her.

“I cant like him… can I?” He heard her mumble. “But I know he’s not as bad as what Silver and Amy say. I know he is good” Aurora sat down, brought her knees to her chest and buried her face in her hands. She looked at the stars dancing above, “Why would you make me fall for someone who would never feel the same?”

Shadow looked up it was just another clear night, the full moon being the only light. He thought about the way Aurora spoke and found it was familiar. It was the way he talked to Maria. He watched the sky a bit longer, wondering who Aurora might be talking to.

“How long have you been there?!” A very startled Aurora asked when she finally saw him.

Shadow smirked, “Still not going near the edge I see.” He teased instead of answering. Aurora crossed her arms and stuck out her tongue. “Why don’t you come up here the view is better.” He said offering her his hand.

“Promise I wont fall?” She asked hesitantly taking his hand blushing.

“Promise.” He said pulling her up. They were both standing on the roof now just inches apart in the moonlight.

“You were thinking of your friend again?” Aurora asked sitting down. Shadow just nodded. “You think about them a lot.” She said quietly.

He just nodded again, maybe it was time he told her. “I do think about her a lot.”

“Oh…”Aurora said suddenly very interested in her hands.

“Her name was Maria, she was my best friend and the kindest person I ever met.” Shadow said not meeting Aurora’s curious gaze.

“What do you mean her name was Maria?” Aurora asked quietly.

“She died a long time ago, trying to save me.” Shadow whispered fighting the sadness and anger boiling inside anytime he thought about that day.

Aurora listened quietly as Shadow told her all about the blond haired blue eyed girl. She was amazed by the girls courage and strength. Aurora made a promise that night to Maria, that she would not let her die in vain and that she would do whatever she could to take care of Shadow.

Shadow slowly started to wake up when he felt a peck on his forehead. As Aurora left a light blush colored both their cheeks. Shadow looked at his side. He was already wrapped up, Aurora already finished patching him up. He looked outside, the rain had stopped and the sky had cleared up. It was a full moon and the stars seemed brighter than ever. Shadow tried to sit up but was pushed down by gentile hands.

“Sorry but you need to rest.” Aurora said, her black hair falling in her eyes. She sat on the floor by Shadow’s head and pulled out her notebook.

“How long was I out?” He asked trying to peek at what she was writing.

“About an hour.” She said

Aurora didn’t realize Shadow was reading over shoulder until he said, “Don’t make that one of the bands songs. Keep that one for yourself.”

“Shadow! Were you reading over my shoulder?” She asked surprised. She sighed her cheeks turning cherry red. It was a poem he had actually inspired, so she was embarrassed he read it.

Shadow didn’t realize he was smiling until Aurora smiled and said, “You should smile more often, it suits you.” He couldn’t hide his bewilderment or the surfacing blush. His ruby eyes held her soft blue eyes as he lifted her chin.

Aurora’s whole muzzle turned bright red, but she didn’t dare move as Shadow leaned in. It was a soft and gentile kiss, but filled with emotion. Aurora blinked in surprise when Shadow pulled away.

“S-Shadow b-but---- H-how… When...” Aurora stuttered.

Shadow just smiled at her, “Since that first day Aurora. I promise that I will always protect you. Always.” And he kissed her again.

My Opinions on the Sonic Movie Trailer

Okay, I guess I better say something about this movie before I lose my credibility in the Sonic community. I saw the trailer at school and everyone was talking about how weird it was on campus. I loved it at first sight, since I thought Sonic was gonna look WAY worse. Anyway, let's go over the pros and cons.

Pros:

- The speed. They knew what they were doing with Sonic and his speed effects. I mean it makes sense, what with the people from Fast and Furious.

- That Spin Dash! Sonic's iconic move was displayed amazingly in that trailer and his strength was on full display. Also when he just plopped into his little hideout in the forest and he was that fuzzball, it looked great!

- Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. I get what they're doing. This is an origin story. Robotnik is gonna deteriorate into the classic crazy villain we all know him as. That ending shot proved it. But yeah. He was clearly not fat enough, but he isn't quite...egged out yet. Sort of a Kintobor thing before Robotnik/Eggman. My dad has issues with it, but I think it's fine. Plus he's got good material as well. Sassy and smart. That's how I like my Eggs.

- The acting. Marsala is giving it his all, and he sure has experience in this. I imagine he's gonna be a good focal point of the movie since title characters in these movies are NEVER the focus but are there to say that it is indeed a titled character's movie. I think Tim will be fine. A little snarky to play off of Sonic as well. Honestly I loved that bit with the "That's not your child in that bag?" This was also a good reminder that Sonic is a teenager. Good move. I forget who's playing Ann, but she seems fine. No comment yet. And then we have the Hedgehog himself. Ben Schwartz, I tip my blue spiky hat to you! You know just how to make Sonic sound like...well... SONIC! That cockiness is perfect. The voice is natural, and I want MORE! I'm sure they got some good lines for him (and some bad ones but that's inevitable sadly)

- The animation in general. Say what you will about the design, but in motion, everything looks awesome! It flows, it doesn't look cheap, and the mech designs look incredible. The effects are well integrated and seem like they're unintrusive on reality. I like it. And really, Sonic looks good in some shots, especially doing what he does best. I'm so happy they got Sonic looking cool when on the move. If they failed at that, the whole thing would be a complete failure.

-The Easter Eggs and nods! Listen to the voice of the Commander of the military again. Now imagine that voice saying something like... "Sonic Adventure 2, Hero Side Story: Farewell Sonic, Forever." Tell me that isnt the same guy! That's an amazing Easter Egg. Also I hear one of the guys in the meeting voiced Grounder in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Also cool! The pike of shoes in Sonic's hideout was a neat touch. He was looking for some good new shoes. Something tells me those Nikes ain't gonna last through the movie since they ain't frictionless. I also noticed something really cute they pulled off. When Sonic did that Fitbit joke? Looking at his wrist condescendingly? Sound familiar? Almost idle? Sonic 2 idle animation perhaps? All that's missing is him tapping his t- WAIT! Yep, that's another thing I think when I think Sonic. The classic impatient toe tap. They got his attitude DOWN and I love it! And! They remember something I'm so happy about! HE'S 90'S AS FUCK!!! Sonic listened to Gangsta's Paradise on a cassette tape! That song is from the 90's! They got it! Sonic is not a modern boi. He is so lost in the last decades and that's why I love him. That old fashioned nature? That's what makes him more timeless to me.

- Check that hair. They got his hair right. Good. That's it. Sonic is also very defined by the classic shape of his hair.

- The Ring. Okay, hear me out. Yes, we're more familiar with Rings being used as a shield to prevent Sonic from dying from a hit. Um, did y'all forget the Giant Ring at the end of the level in Sonic 1? Or the Flicky's Ring in 3D Blast/Flickies Island? It's just a portable version of that. I like the spin on it, okay? I'm sure it also protects Sonic like in the SatAM cartoon. Im just glad Rings are in the movie at all.

Cons:

- Elephant in the room, Sonic's overall design philosophy. I feel like there were two butting heads at the studio trying to decide how realistic to make Sonic look. They apparently compromised at "Make him anthropomorphic and give him human facial features including human teeth." Yeah, the teeth and eyes are my issue, and some coloring issues as well (I get that hedgehogs usually have white bellies, but Sonic has always had a tan belly, since he doesnt walk on all fours. Plus he needs to be a darker shade of blue.) The features all too human just kind of take away from what was meant to be more real. If they gave him sharper canine teeth, that would be an improvement, because that would be more animalistic. Also, I like how some people design Movie Sonic with a white tuft of fur between his eyes to make that classic illusion that his eyes are connected like the old days. (Actually looking back, I think Sonic's eyes were connected on accident before but they stuck with the design. Sort of an artist's idea of eye design in the old days. If he was to be created today, his eyes might be separated) I also need something to really come out of Sonic with his face. EXPRESSIONS AND PERSONALITY! You know, that thing Sonic was known for aside from his speed? That face is not very expressive and it leaves the emotions behind the delivery of the lines feeling flat. Perhaps a more defined brow for that redo, thanks. Otherwise, I have no complaints. The lack of gloves is odd, but again, this is most likely an origin story, so he doesnt have the gloves YET. I am glad that he has proper paws with the pads on his palms instead of creepy human hands. Also claws that he probably cuts/files/chews off himself so they're more like fingernails. Solid enough I guess. And the furriness of it all as well as the dropping quills? Eh, it makes sense. Plus it almost makes the rest of his body seem cuddly. I'm just not down with the rest of it.

-The music choice. Okay, I never heard Gangsta's Paradise in my life. From what I hear it makes no sense to have it have anything to do with Sonic. Now, maybe it was the only cassette he could find, since that boombox looks secondhand and so is the tape, obviously. However, if I were to choose a song for the trailer? I have one option. All I Want by Offspring! Think about it. The dates line up. It's a fast paced rock song. It's rebellious and against the system, like Sonic is in the movie apparently (yeah I didnt get that whole "delinquent" bullshit from the trailer, did you? He just seems like Sonic to me in terms of his actions,) and it was used in a SEGA game! It's from Crazy Taxi! Come on, that's PERFECT!

- the Flash lightning. Seriously? Is that the only thing Hollywood can think of when it comes to showing someone is fast? Come on, get your heads out of your asses. It's so easy. Modern Sonic has been more compared to the element of WIND! Tornadoes, Mach Cones, Sonic Wind, all that stuff. Sonic never really messed with electricity, so bleh.

- This isn't a pro or a con, but I really wanna know this. Will we see the Tornado? Don't forget that the Tornado is Sonic's plane. He just has Tails fly it when he wants to ride the wings. I feel like they could have had Sonic use the Tornado in a cool air battle scene but get shot down (because the Tornado kinda sucks since it always gets shot down, but it's iconic to me) since Sonic isn't exactly "a hell of a pilot" and THEN finds the Warp Ring inside. I dunno, thought it'd be cool. Look, Tim just met a 3 foot, blue, talking hedgehog that runs really fast and eats chili dogs. (please remember the chili dogs) Hedgehogs on planes wouldn't be that farfetched that day, would it?

- Some writing just felt off, but some can be explained. Let's start with everyone's FAVORITE scene...to wreck. The infamous "Uhhh...meow?" Here's my take. Yes, stupid, but what if he had no idea what to do? What if Sonic was just in his head going "What sounds do hedgehogs make? What sounds do hedgehogs make? Quick, say something, stupid!" And when he said it, probably something in his head was screaming "Dont say something stupid, stupid!" Also, I just didn't laugh at the "Smells like body spray and an old ham sandwich" line. I was like, Sonic, shut up. The joke was sold. Don't ruin it.

- Why is it the law where every live action movie with a CGI talking animal (that they didn't know about before you bring up Detective Pikachu, Christopher Robin, or even Peter Rabbit) must have the main character and the CGI character scream at each other? Sonic wouldn't freak out (unless he was more afraid of the gun and was kind of unsure how to react. Also great job dodging the tranq dart, oh Fastest Thing Alive)more than likely he'd be trying to talk his way out of this or just run away with a face like 😐😳 "I'm SO busted!" Just saying there was a better way to do that aside from the cliche.

- Robotnik, why did you try to taste the quill? You dont know where he's been. Yeah, yeah, I get it. Cool and Lickable. Lol. Pretty sure typos shouldn't be legitimized.

- Quicksilver? Not in my series he ain't. Oh... wait. Yeah. The whole stopping time thing. Eh, it's been done. Cool all the same, but again, done before. I appreciate Sonic's spin on it though, playing around like a teenager would. I dig it.

-Save your planet? Like...as in you're just an alien? I dunno, plus how do you know you have to save the planet? I'm chalking THAT up to "this is a trailer and probably wont appear in the final movie the same way."

- Did they REALLY have to make him say "Gotta go fast"? Again, probably just for the trailer, but really?

In conclusion, I have no hope for the movie. Can't be disappointed if you dont expect anything. Sort of my take on his design at first. I thought he was gonna look like COMPLETE garbage, but some shots look great, like when he was explaining that he had to save the planet? The lighting and such looked good for his face when the camera was on him. And again, the movie looks much better in motion. Yeah, I still have issues, but that's because I love Sonic. I love the characters and I want the best for the series. I care about the games that have been with me since my near infancy. They have fan service but it feels like you gotta be a crazy fan like myself to get the references, so it's lackluster because of it.

Sonic deserves a great movie! I just hope they impress me with something HUGE!

so wait you dont like boom!sonamy because Boom!Amy is not the type of girl to really be all that encouraging as Modern Amy is to Modern Sonic, but are fine if Modern Amy swapped places with Boom Amy? Yet you dont like Modern Sonamy? I dont get that. I though what you wanted was for Amy to mature and ease up on her affection for Sonic. Which she does in Boom. She sill loves and supports him, but not to the point Modern would. So you want her to ease up, or to be super suppertive?

Okay, out of the multiple asks I’m guessing are mostly from you since they were sent in a very short timespan, this one I can actually follow and understand because I was admittedly very vague about it in my original post.

Gonna make three things abundantly clear right off the bat:

1 - Modern!Amy > Boom!Amy every time; that doesn’t mean I’m super fond of either of them, but if I had to choose, I’d immediately pick Modern!Amy.

2 - Modern!Sonic ≠ Boom!Sonic; they both have fairly different personalities, meaning how I’d fit them with other characters is also different. I might say that Modern!Amy is not good for Modern!Sonic, but that doesn’t mean I think the other way around as false. In fact, I firmly believe that Modern!Sonic is not good for Modern!Amy either.

3 - They are not swapping places; that would imply that Boom!Amy just has Modern!Amy’s personality, which is not what I’m going for here. This AU involves the two universes having some sort of portal to connect to each other and only the two Sonic being aware of it at first, so they decide to have a little fun.

The AU (which isn’t even supposed to be taken that seriously anyway) is about Modern!Amy developing as a character. Through the AU, she progresses as a character, because, while she DOES think Boom!Sonic is Modern!Sonic at first, she eventually realizes that this isn’t the case, which is where the AU actually takes off.

Now, firstly, let me point out the key differences between both Amy and both Sonic. Modern!Amy is extremely supportive, while Boom!Amy is more - I don’t agree with this word, but since you used it, I will too - “mature”. However, while Modern!Sonic gets enough support as it is, Boom!Sonic does not. Thus, ironically, the thing that the writers did to make Boom!Amy more compatible with Boom!Sonic actually makes her less compatible.

Modern!Sonic is constantly moving, always exploring new places and never staying in one place for very long. Boom!Sonic is more relaxed; he loves running, but doesn’t go exploring often and enjoys lounging in his hammock, away from all the noise and distress of the villagers. Those traits are key, because Modern!Amy hates it when Modern!Sonic goes off on his own. She wants someone who’s more there for her, and Boom!Sonic would actually have the time to give her that.

And, at the start of the AU, Boom!Sonic would actually take a bit of advantage of the situation. He’s a nice guy of course, but he’s a little selfish too since he’d like Modern!Amy’s attention, fearing ruining it by outing himself as being not-her-Sonic.

Through Modern!Amy, he stops feeling like he has to always be the ego guy; like he can actually be himself without needing to put himself on a pedestal just to make himself feel better, as there’s a girl who does seem to really like him. Even if he’s living a lie, what he does actually makes her smile.

But once the secret is out, Modern!Amy would start questioning herself. There would be two Sonic now; does she love them both? That would be shallow of her, loving a Sonic just because he’s Sonic, wouldn’t it? And yet, she enjoyed the time she had with Boom!Sonic, loving him like she would Modern!Sonic, even if she was mistaken.

Maybe part of her even knew that this wasn’t her Sonic; maybe part of her was certain of it, but didn’t want to believe it because this one was spending time with her and loved her company.

That’s where the development comes in. She would either move on from Modern!Sonic or become friends with Boom!Sonic which would then blossom into a legitimate crush. This makes her mature and supportive; something Boom!Amy is not.

Modern!Amy is a lot of things; she’s obsessive, she’s got a short fuse, and she doesn’t understand that Modern!Sonic is just not interested.

But, you know what? No matter what she did, I never for a moment thought that she didn’t care about him. Even if it was just his hero side, I at least got the impression that she legitimately cared.

For comparison’s sake, let’s look at two episodes that try to paint Sonic as a bad guy, “The Light is Ours!!” from Sonic X, and “Just a Guy” from Sonic Boom.

Now, before anyone says, “Just a Guy is a satire!”, that’s no excuse. The villagers are supposed to be the pawns for the writers to do whatever they want, not Sonic’s “friends”. Thus, I will judge them as such.

The light arc of Sonic X has Eggman as a “good guy” for giving all these people the lights they need, and Sonic as the “bad guy” for taking those away by knocking down the towers that power them.

Now, keep in mind that Amy doesn’t even know Sonic’s reasoning for doing this, yet, what’s her reaction to it?

She trusts him, because “she likes him”. She doesn’t know why he’s doing these things, but she has faith in him anyway.

In “Just a Guy”, Sonic is practically hated by everyone in the village because he didn’t want someone to get hurt. That’s literally it. He had no other way of conveying this and everyone got offended.

What does Amy do? She goes full-on lecture mode on him and tells him that he has to change, that he has to apologize.

And when Sonic loses his cool and storms off? Does she feel bad for pushing him? Nope! In fact, she tricks him by taking everyone else away from the village, leaving it thoroughly unprotected, so that Sonic is forced to step up because he’s a nice guy who can’t stand to see the village destroyed. And, she doesn’t even have a problem straight up admitting this right to his face when they come back down from the mountains after he’d saved the day.

That is not maturity. That is manipulation.

Sonic Boom likes to act like their Amy is better. Sonic Boom likes to act like she’s a better character, but she’s not.

Modern!Amy, despite her faults, at least cares. No matter what, her attraction is at least right out in the open. She’s immature in her obsessiveness, but she has a goal. She doesn’t dance around the problem; she actually goes for it.

If Boom!Amy was as mature as she’s claimed to be, why doesn’t she actually do something and confess to Boom!Sonic already? She’s definitely not shy, because she’s been very forward about literally everything else. If she doesn’t want to ruin their relationship, oh, yeah, that ship totally hasn’t sailed or anything. If she was really this touchy-feelsy type who’s always supposed to have the solution to everyone’s problem, then she needs to get off her high horse, buck up, and stop dancing around this apparent crush.

I know why she’s not saying anything. She’s not saying anything because she wants him to confess to her. She wants to sit her on her throne and not care how long it takes if it means not doing anything. She wants someone who’s romantic and will sweep her off her feet (going off of Tails’ Crush), and that’s not what Boom!Sonic is.

Either that, or the other option being that she has this fleeting attraction for him, which would more easily explain why she falls for every other guy introduced (e.g: Swifty, Tommy, alternate!Knuckles), thus negating this whole shipping argument anyway.

Modern!Amy doesn’t expect Modern!Sonic to be super romantic. Walks on the beach, a flower or date here and there, but that’s it. This is why the AU exists. Boom!Sonic gets the support he wants and deserves while Modern!Amy gets someone whose personality is similar to one she originally had her eyes on, but is actually better for her and is thus a more logical match. Plus, she gets to mature through the thought process of what it means to be in love and what someone being in love with her means.
