The OC Halloween Challenge - Day 15
You can find the challenge here!
Today's prompt was...
Home Is Where The Haunt Is
A home can be a place to make memories and some memories leave a scar. Focus on your characters when a place they call home is threatened.
I actually only had a single idea for this prompt, so we have nobody to mourn today! Inspiration struck and I might even turn this into a full series at some point, who knows!
The League sat in the conference room, a tension in the room that none of them had experienced since their very first adventure together. All of them still very clearly had the image of Tom Saywer in their minds. But not the bright smile on his lips, the sunshine that he was. No, it was his corpse, a deep stab wound in his heart. Right beside him, that of Allan Quatermain, stomach sliced open like that of an animal on the sacrifical altar.
Doctor Jekyll and Skinner were sitting a bit off to the side, Jekyll having some slight trouble stitching up various cuts across Skinner's invisible body. Turned out his blood did become visible once outside his skin, and that was really the only thing Jekyll could go by. Thankfully, he had treated a wound on Skinner before, even if only once, so he had some idea what he was doing. Still, these would end up being his least skillfull stitches yet.
"So," Nemo summarized, "there is a violent entity loose on my ship that can take on various forms and seemingly disappear without a trace, only to then reappear somewhere else?"
"It can probably turn invisible," Mina theorized.
"Then I might still be able to find it," Varsha said. "As long as it doesn't float."
"The thing has eight legs," Skinner commented. He shuddered audibly, seeing as he couldn't visibly do so. "Big ol' thing, that creeper. You can't miss it."
"It isn't always a spider, Skinner," Jekyll commented, placing the last stitch.
"What was it you saw?" Mina asked.
"It was..." Jekyll started, but then he couldn't get the rest of the sentence out. He busied himself putting away his equipment.
"It was Hyde, wasn't it?" Skinner asked. "You said it caught you off guard, that's why it caught you off guard."
"At first, I... I really thought it was him," Jekyll mumbled. He looked at the nearest reflective surface, where Hyde clearly had to be, whispering things to him. "But when he didn't talk to me, I realised something was off. Still, I... didn't react in time. It came out of the window and transformed into that... monster... we fought at M's hideout."
"The henchman?" Varsha echoed. "The one who drank thirty doses worth of your potion?"
"Exactly, that one. Do you remember, in the tower, when we were trapped and you saved us?"
"Yes, it was freezing cold and we were pressed against the wall, just out of his reach."
"The icycle he tried to stab us with, the monster had it."
Varsha's torso ached at the memory, right where the sharp tip had dug into her scales.
"So, it could be a large spider or a mutant," Nemo murmured.
"It wasn't just some spider!" Skinner scoffed. "The tips of its legs were sharp like big bleedin' swords and there was poison dripping from its mouth when it tried to eat me."
"I saw that too," Varsha declared. "But when it looked at me, it just hissed and ran off. Do spiders usually hiss? I don't think they do, and it sounded snake-like. Like when someone is speaking the same language you do but with such a difficult accent that you can't understand a word."
"It probably didn't want to mess with a goddess like you," Skinner said with an invisible wink. He started putting his coat back on, followed by his sunglasses.
Normally, Varsha would correct him once again that she was, in fact, not a goddess, only a divine being, but considering the situation, she had other things to think about.
"Somehow," Nemo mumbled, "I think it would've attacked her just the same if it caught her alone."
"Maybe Skinner isn't entirely wrong," Mina said. "The creature may not have been scared of her, but it could've recognized her as a nagi and thus immune to poison."
"Doctor, you said that the creature was gone once you ran into the night patrol?" Nemo asked, absentmindedly running his fingers along the hilt of his sword.
"Yes, that's true."
"And Agent Sawyer died earlier than Mister Quatermain."
"By an hour or so, yes."
"Maybe the creature can only use its powers to its full extent when its victim is alone. That's why it was so overwhelming when it found you alone but it ran once another person was present."
"Then it's easy, we just have to not be alone anymore," Skinner concluded. He was about to follow this up with some cheeky remark about female company, but Jekyll interrupted.
"I don't think it is. Maybe it works now, but it's safe to assume the creature is getting stronger with each person it attacks. Tom's death was... well, it could've been caused by any regular human. There were minor wounds that suggested a fight but none of them particularly severe. He died by a blade to the heart, it was quick and simple. Mister Quatermain, on the other hand, was entirely sliced open and didn't have the chance to put up a fight at all, which we all know would be unusual for him. We know what happened both attacks after that and that the creature became more violent each time." He took a deep breath, fidgeting with his pocket watch. "I think it feeds off fear and it turns into a physical representation of what we're most scared of."
Silence swept over the room.
"It would make sense," Mina mumbled. "Tom may not have liked admitting to his fears but he definitely had them. If I had to guess, I think the monster killed him in the form of Sanderson Reed, the other invisible man who almost ended his life at M's fortress. The event was traumatic enough for him for the creature to pick it and Sanderson Reed was human in strength and abilities. Mister Quatermain was then killed by the image of Sawyer, the man he saw as his son that he, yet again, failed. As for you, Doctor, I think the reason for the creature's shape is obvious."
"Very," Jekyll sighed, clearly blaming himself again. Varsha gave him a sympathetic glance, trying to comfort him.
"And you, Skinner," Mina continued, "you wouldn't happen to be scared of spiders, would you?"
"And what if I was?" Skinner threw back, tugging at his gloves. "They're deadly, after all."
"Only some of them."
"I suppose we should know what everyone is afraid of then so that we can be somewhat prepared," Varsha suggested.
"And we should surface and head to the nearest dock," Nemo added. "We'll have a hard time fighting the creature aboard the Nautilus since we could accidentally damage her and cause her to sink. It would be better if we lured the creature out into the open."
"The nearest port would probably be Casablanca," Varsha theorized.
"Fears, anyone?" Skinner interrupted. "I've already had mine announced to the world, now I wanna hear yours."
"I suppose I'll go first," Mina sighed. "It's loss of control. Hurting the people I care about. Vampirism can be... tough on your nerves. The instinct to hunt and kill never quite goes away. - Varsha, I reckon your fear would be based in so-called mythology? Perhaps a bird of prey?"
"You could say that," Varsha nodded. "Garuda and his sons, the sworn enemies of the naga people. They're gigantic birds. Eagles, falcons, hawks..."
Now, eyes were on Nemo. "My fear..." he said slowly, " would be failure. Failure as a Captain, to protect my ship, my crew... my friends."
"That's... abstract, to say the least. With Mina and myself, our fears act like mirrors, it's clear what form they'll take. Maybe, yours is to abstract for the creature to use."
"Or it turns into a kraken and cracks the Nautilus in half," Varsha murmured. "I think you should avoid contact with the creature at all costs, Captain. Whatever form the creature takes, I doubt it would be good for the ship."
"I don't think having a giant bird on board would be great either," Skinner commented.
"Right, which is why I'll wear a blindfold. If the creature can't look into my eyes, maybe it can't read my fear, since the eyes are the window to the soul. I would still be able to see relatively well, so it wouldn't be much of an issue for me."
"So, the plan is set," Nemo concluded, getting up from his chair. "Nobody should be alone from now on. I'll head to the bridge and set a course for Casablanca. We'll be travelling above water and I'll have my fellow officers with me at all times. Meanwhile, we should make an effort to keep the creature at bay and find out everything we possibly and safely can until we can properly eliminate it. Mrs Harker, Doctor Jekyll, I suggest you'll take the starbord side. Varsha, Mr Skinner, you'll take the port. Should the creature be able to attack more than one person at a time, I believe you'll be able to best deal with the other's monster in this pairing."
"What exactly do I do against a giant bird if I can't even shoot it?" Skinner asked.
"You're cunning, I trust you can come up with something."
The League nodded, then headed outside of the conference room. Mina gave her scarf to Varsha, which she in turn wrapped around her eyes, obscuring her vision. Finally, they went their separate ways, Jekyll and Mina to one side of the ship, Varsha and Skinner to the other. As they walked, Varsha could feel a gloved hand brush against her fingers. She took it almost instinctively. Skinner was trembling.

Thinking about how the reason why the LXG film had to create an Invisible Man OC was bc the film rights to Griffin the Invisible Man were still owned by Universal, even though the original literary character is in the public domain, so 20th Century Fox couldn't use him, and wondering how much the plot and team dynamics would have differed if the Invisible Man was a book accurate Griffin without the gross stuff the LoEG comics added bc as fun as Skinner is, he is definitely more heroic and cooperative than Griffin, and honestly, I would have especially loved to see Griffin interacting with Hyde and Dorian bc it would have been fun and fucked up tbh

Edward Hyde from the LXG comics died similarly to my oc was a coincidence and now I’m like, “fuck.”

I guess it’s kinda like with properties like Fate, Vanitas or LXG. Those are definitely characters in their respective properties that have a large basis on their ‘real world’/mythological counterparts - but are definitely distinctly separate at that point even if the author makes them as ‘accurate’ as possible. As far as them being ‘OCs’ their basis is only one small aspect of the character to the point I’d say they’re more than 50% original at least.
I guess that’s a fair way to look at it, so I guess they’re like step-OCs. Someone else is their “real” parent but I’m raising them as my own

Yet another OC for the PiDW lore. XD This one has a bit of a gruesome backstory, as is befitting for a demon, I guess. I'll put the backstory under the read more.
Don’t like, don’t interact. (°u°)b // Please don’t steal and/or repost.
● Patreon ● Comission Prices ● Redbubble ●
LXGs demon clan is relatively weak, basically at the bottom of the hacking order among humanoid demons in the PiDW world. Their only advantageous trait is, that they can emit a certain pheromone that works like a tranquilizer for monsters, common humans and weak demons. Stronger demons, or powerful cultivators will not react at all, or merely experience a more pleasant/ peaceful mood. Since they are obligate carnivores and therefore dependent on eating fresh meat, they tend to hunt in packs in order to multiply the effect of their pheromones and tranquilize bigger prey before killing it.
LXG was captured by corrupt cultivators as a child and then sold to a rick merchant, who kept him as an exotic pet in a display cage with suppression talismans. Just when he reached adulthood an opportunity to escape presented itself, when one of his caretakers made a mistake. In retaliation for the years of imprisonment and abuse, he tranquilized the entire household, before gorging on their flesh and then running away.
He later came to hide under Huli Jing's protection on Ku Xing Peak.

hii, sorry if this is a bit weird but I've been wondering about it for a bit- when your writing these fabulous prompts, do you imagine of the characters as anything particular? like, in terms of looks/physical features. If you do could you tell us about it? ahah, I'm really curious :D
Okay I have fixed the technical difficulties!
Oof, I was never expecting to get asked this but it’s totally not weird. It makes me happy to think people are interested in, well, me, and I am good craic, I promise.
Well here’s where the cringe starts. Above all else, I am a fangirl. I’ve spent 4 years none stop writing one LXG fanfiction and still haven’t finished or published it. Because of that half the time I just picture those characters’ looks, almost always Arsène Lupin for my ‘good Villains’, or sometimes Zenith, if they’re good, buuut not above killing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now the real cringe starts when I say often in these cases, if I picture a Hero, it’s usually me or the rebellious adventure-filled rebel of a girl one cannot help but wish was them, usually looking like Peta Wilson AKA Mina Harker from LXG ^^’ It just helps me know the whole ‘what would they do next’? (But hey, who wouldn’t want pretend to date Lupin?)
Hm, what else? Well often a gruff detective I imagine is Robur the Conqueror, but he looks like Jeff Bridges who I realise more people will know, which is a shame but nevermind. Big broad shoulders and an American goatee do seem to be essentials. Sometimes picture him for the Villain too, especially where the Villain’s looking after their Henchmen and like pinning them down and reassuring them and stuff. There's not many pictures of him sadly.
Tumblr media
Sidekick’s vary a lot, some imaginings are as follows, some of which do happen to look like OCs in my upcoming mask stories. I own none of these pictures I took them off pinterest. Which, by the way, I heard someone sneaked my work onto- you little fiends, yeah, you thought I wouldn’t find out, didn’t you? Well I have but as long as my name is still on I don’t care.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Actual Supervillains and Villains though is where my mind kinda goes blank for any face claim, although maybe Mortem pops into mind. Someone either totally pristine or really rugged and spooky and just plain mean. Henchmen also kinda go blank for looks, but for whatever reason imagining a teen or young adult called Yoseph always seems to fit the bill or a very self-assured person, also pretty broad and bulky and loyal. My brain’s a strange place, who knows, man? ^^’
Tumblr media
Mentors, I usually end up picturing someone older, Maybe like my precious bab Naseeruddin Shah, who played Nemo or sometimes just good old Gareth from my mask stories. Someone with a wibbly wobbly past that’s trying to make the trainee the best they can be and stop them making the mistakes they did. Fatherly figures are my absolute thing and I love seeing them in stories so I guess that sometimes comes into play too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Feel free to ask or send in a comment if you want to know more about my strangeness XD. Oh and if you like LXG oml please let me fangirl with you, I'm so lonely in this fandom I can even-

The OC Halloween Challenge - Day 24
You can find the challenge here!
Today's prompt was...
You’ve Killed Me Before
The best thing about the sun setting is that it will come up again in the morning, and a new day will begin. But what if the sun comes up and an old day begins? Whether your oc must solve their own murder, solve somebody else’s murder, or face difficult truths about those around them, it’s time to put them into a time loop.
Once again, there was a poll where you guys could decide who should go through the horrors today. These are the losers of the poll:
Kassandra Hargreeves ("Five, what did you do this time?")
Philomel (stuck in a constant loop of Armageddon)
Iris Winchester (war is hell)
Raevyn Maumahara ("Again? Really?")
And your winner is...
Varsha Devi!
-
Varsha woke up in her bed again, her heart racing. Immediately, she started shivering, then crying. She was so exhausted. All she wanted was for this to end. Despite her eyes being closed, she could swear she still saw the shattered alarm clock on her nightstand, destroyed about a dozen evenings ago. A dozen evenings, which didn't mean a dozen days. Varsha had been reliving the same day, again, and again, and again, until she inevitably died.
In a few minutes, Nemo would come into her room to tell her that they would arrive in Venice in half an hour and that she should stay away from Skinner, who was believed to be a traitor. They would reach Venice, try to locate the bombs and fail, since they would explode roughly a minute after their arrival. Then, the houses would start falling down like dominoes. The League would set out to stop the wave of destruction, all except Jekyll, who would refuse to turn into Hyde and stay behind. On the way, they would start to get separated, until only Sawyer was left. He would succeed in stopping the falling houses and reunite with the rest of the League at the Nautilus. Then, the traitor would reveal himself and steal the Nautiloid. Of course, the Nautilus would pursue the villain and then... sink. That was if nothing went awry on the way, or if Varsha survived this long at all. Her body ached with every blunt object, every blade, every bullet she had endured over the last countless hours.
And all of this, all of this for practically nothing. Even after all these repetitions, she still didn't know who the traitor was. All she knew was that Skinner was innocent, but nobody she told that to would listen. Additionally, she had what Skinner had taught her, the one time she had managed to find him, for as invisible as he was. That she was in a time loop, a time loop that was controlled by a single timepiece on this ship, a timepiece which she would recognize once she saw its hands twitching, which, when destroyed, would end the loop. But that wasn't all. For all she knew, she wasn't the only one repeating this night, because the traitor was always one step ahead of her, already very apparent by them sneaking into her room and destroying her alarm clock every single time. Their time loop had to start some time ahead of hers, and they were probably in control of it, much unlike Varsha.
With a desparate sigh, Varsha pulled her blanket up to her nose, hiding beneath it. She just wanted this to end. The part of her that had been spurring her on, telling her again and again about her responsibility to this ship, to the League, to Nemo as a person, was barely alive anymore, only a very quiet voice at the back of her brain. The exhaustion was stronger. At this point, she felt like her going out there and trying to solve things was just making everything worse. For her and for anyone involved. She was just so tired, so unbelievably tired, and everything hurt.
The same knock as always came from the door, but Varsha couldn't get herself to answer. A few seconds later, Nemo came in.
"Varsha?" he called.
Varsha just hummed in return, not moving an inch.
"We'll be arriving in Venice in half an hour."
No response.
"Are you not feeling well?"
"I'm sick."
The words fell out of Varsha's mouth without her even thinking about them. She even managed to sound the part, thanks to her crying before. Maybe, her eyes were even red enough to look the part.
"Sick?" Nemo repeated. He sat down on the bed next to her, examining her with his eyes. "I didn't think that was at all possible."
"It happens rarely," Varsha lied. "I know I said I wanted to come with you, but... I think I'd rather stay here."
"... Of course. See if you can get some more rest. Maybe we should return to India once this is all over? Perhaps the change in climate is what's having this effect on you."
It wasn't.
"Maybe. But... Save the world first, Captain, alright? You can worry about me later."
There was no later. There wouldn't be.
"Alright." Nemo got up from the bed and readjusted the blanket. "Get well soon. I can assure you, you'll be missed."
Normally, Varsha would have smiled. But in her current state, that sentence hit her more like a dagger than anything else.
For a while, Varsha was alone in her room again. Alone, save for the thoughts racing around her brain. It was getting hard to separate memories from worries, one variant of the same night from the other. The longer she stayed alone, the more it crawled upon her that she wanted the traitor to find her timepiece. Find it and destroy it. Just end it. But a dozen other voices yelled at her that she had to keep fighting, keep trying, reveal the traitor, and stop both loops. But how was she supposed to do that if she couldn't even get up?
That was when there was another knock at the door. Weaker, quieter. Varsha almost missed it. But there it was again. Then, the door opened, and a familiar voice called her name.
"Miss Devi?"
It was Doctor Jekyll. Of course. That was what humans did when they were sick. They called a doctor.
"Nemo mentioned you were sick. I figured, I should probably examine you and make sure it's nothing serious. - Only if you consent, of course."
Varsha was tired, so endlessly tired. But there was something about Jekyll that always made her feel comforted, and even in her current state, she couldn't turn him down. With some effort, she lifted her aching body off the mattress, now sitting somewhat upright in her bed. Jekyll sat down next to her a little awkwardly, looking very anxious.
"I know you prefer not to speak, but you do know how to write, so I brought a pen and paper for you to communicate with me. I don't want to do anything that might make you uncomfortable, so-" He stopped mid-sentence, staring at Varsha. "What happened to your neck?"
Varsha blinked at him, having fallen fully out of the clouds.
"May I?" Jekyll asked, his hands hovering a safe distance away from her face and neck. When Varsha nodded, he gently tilted her head back and pulled down the collar of her nightshirt. His eyes were glossy with worry. "This kind of hemorrhaging would usually only be caused by... strangling. Hanging, maybe. It almost looks layered. By all means, I don't understand..."
That was when Varsha snapped and broke out into tears again, wrapping her hands around Jekyll's wrists when he pulled them away.
"I was strangled," she cried out. "I was hanged. I was stabbed and shot and smothered, again and again and again, and every time I wake up in my bed and have to live through this night over and over again. No matter what I tried, nobody believed me, nobody who would change anything anyway. And now you... you can see what happened?!"
Jekyll was quiet for a moment, overwhelmed by the situation. "Yes, I... Who was it? Who keeps killing you?"
"Multiple people. Most of the time... I honestly can't remember. I really don't know. The attacks came from behind. And the other times... Staged accidents, M's henchmen... Once it was Quatermain. Once it was Gray."
"Why would they kill you?"
"Because they thought I was the traitor. With Quatermain, it's a long story, but... Gray found me talking to Skinner and shot us both. - Skinner is innocent. You have to believe me, Skinner didn't do anything. He's a shady individual and a thief but he's no traitor. He tried to help me figure this out. Apparently, there's one single timepiece across the ship that's causing my time loop and when it's destroyed, the loop ends. But there has to be a second loop here, one controlled by the traitor. And if they find that timepiece, they'll have free reign. I can't let that happen but I... I'm too exhausted. Everything hurts. I can't do this anymore."
Jekyll sighed heavily. Then, he seemed to remember something, and looked up at Varsha fleetingly. That was when Varsha remembered, too. From his vest, Jekyll pulled a pocket watch, silver and shiny. It sprung open and revealed its face... the hands twitching.
"Oh," Varsha gasped.
"It's a pocket watch," Jekyll said. "Both your timepiece and the traitor's are most likely a pocket watch. They're the hardest to destroy because the owner usually keeps it on their person."
"Especially you."
"... Especially me. I... got it from a dear friend of mine."
"The crew don't carry pocket watches," Varsha mumbled, life slowly returning to her. "At least I'm pretty sure they don't. The Captain does."
"And so does Gray. Besides Nemo, him and I, I think nobody on the League has one."
"I'm assuming your watch is linked to me. That's how you can see my wounds."
"And Nemo would never hurt you, would he? He treats you like his daughter, he adores you."
"Even when I was accused, he was always on my side, despite the evidence."
"Then that really only leaves one person."
Varsha let out a pathetic sigh, dropping back down onto the mattress. "The immortal," she mumbled, covering her face.
This time, it was Jekyll who took Varsha's hands, gently lifting them from her face, rubbing his thumb across her soft skin.
"I promise, it'll be alright. You're not alone anymore. We'll find a way out of this, together."

My take on Rhonda/Miss Moneypenny.
The quiet and deadly secretary of M or "Mother", whose dedication to her work encompasses her life. The few, positive relationships in her life are limited to those in her workspace.
One such relationship is with operative 007, James Bond, who coined her nickname: “Penny.”
Silent and statuesque, she easily blends into the background, making her the perfect ace up the sleeve.

is there a muse you’d add or bring back if you didn’t have to worry about whether others are interested in them or not?
15 questions about mun’s taste in muses.
Tumblr media
Ahhh, well…I do worry about a lack of interest, because inevitably it’ll happen with some muses. Weirdly enough the smaller fandom muses (ie, Malcolm Tucker, Cal Lightman) have been some of the most popular on this blog, so you just never know what you’re gonna get!
I’d love to add some of the muses I used to write on Proboards. They were all LXG based apart from the OCs (who I’m not looking to add because writing OCs is scary af and I’m just about coping with the ones I have on here).
I think I’d like to add Alan Quatermain. I’d also love to add Nicholas Angel from Hot Fuzz but not sure if anybody would want to mess with a by-the-book cop XD

I love the art and it looks really cool but what is it about?
The League of Exquisite Rogue Scientists is a spinoff of the series The Glass Scientists by @arythusa and the film The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I was messaging @duskbg (the co-founder of the League, Dr. Wiggams) about Jekyll and Hyde adaptations when LXG was brought up. After learning about the general gist of the film, I became inspired to make a league of my own with the TGS community. The characters portrayed here are drawings I’ve done of others Lodgersonas and Lodger OCs (Lodgers being the scientists under Jekyll’s care in TGS), it is a very large collaborative effort that anyone is free to join in!

HALLO FRIEND~ tell me the first personality trait you came up with for your oldest oc, and what is something that surprised you about your newest one?
Wow... I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect anyone to actually ask!
Well, I’m very old, so I don’t really remember who my oldest OC was - the oldest one I can think of is Elizabeth Quatermain, from my LXG series. I think the first thing I established about her personality is her feelings with regard to her famous father. Bess has daddy issues, and I knew from the beginning that this would be a significant part of who she is (and something she would need to outgrow).
My newest OC is, I suppose, Evvy Trevelyan from the Skyhold Academy stories. (When I do fanfic, I have a strong tendency to work with canon characters much more than OCs.) Something about her that I found rather surprising was how much personality she ultimately had. Ev was originally mostly just a vehicle by which to bring the reader into Skyhold Academy, but she turned out to be an actual and likable character.
Thank you for the ask, it really made me smile!
