"Leo; Do you hear voices, by any chance?" "...Yes." "Ah, so that would be the Cobweb."

This phrase has been haunting my brain for weeks, so I figured I'd draw something about it.

Portraits of the Coterie locally known by their code name 'The Coffee Shop'. (A portrait series I drew of mine and other player's Chicago by Night characters!) Info about the characters under the cut, in order of appearance:
Lucas (Malkavian, played by myself) - Formally the twitch streamer known as Lucas Gardiner, upon embrace his mind was blended with that of an elder Malkavian dwelling in the cobweb, who incompletely uploaded his own consciousness in an attempt to escape death long ago. Now a completely new person, he walks through his unlife with a new sense of purpose; never mind that his friends and fans are unnerved by the new accent and occultist hobbies. He loves them just the same as always.
Arwin Moore (Banu Haqim, played by FoolishPhoenix) - Noble and refined, a young man from a wealthy old money family from Ohio, he was turned on a night of bloodshed which assured his loyalty to Banu Haqim in the eyes of his sire. Now, he lives his unlife attempting to gain power and status equal to what he had as a mortal within kindred society, as well as to enact his own justice upon the unrestrained and vile cainites who stalk the streets of Chicago.
Meredith Williams (Salubri) Technically the oldest of the coterie, a former WW1 nurse who lives her unlife in fear of final death. Posing as a caitiff around her fellow kindred, her nights are largely spent isolated in her apartment, hacking into Chicago’s networks and building the odd plastic explosive; you never know when you’ll need one.
Patrick ‘Pate’ Rowe (Ravnos) - A soft-spoken man who has gone through his undead life with his beloved friend & famulus, Crawdad. In an attempt to reconnect with his missing brother, he joined the world of Kindred; only becoming aware of his new nature, and that his brother is his sire, after spending many years in the wilderness.

[Image description: Two very similar flags, each with five equally-sized horizontal stripes and a symbol in the center. On both flags, the stripes form a gradient from deep muted blue at the top to soft pink at the bottom. The symbol in the center of the first flag is the Malkavian clan symbol in deep muted blue and soft pink. The symbol is a stylized handheld mirror with cracks in the glass, with some of the cracks forming a vague eye shape. The symbol in the center of the second flag is a spiderweb in deep muted blue and soft pink. End description.]
malkavianvampic is a gender related to the malkavians from vampire: the masquerade. this gender may also be related to any of the themes and/or powers associated with the malkavians, including but not limited to premonitions, telepathy, and madness.
the second flag contains an alternate clan symbol i made for my own games, since i really like focusing on the idea of the cobweb with my malkavian characters.
this may be considered a xenogender, kingender, and/or subset of vampiregender, but does not have to be.
this gender was originally coined on our old blog.

Alexander "Ahiga" Holt, blood of Malkav, esteemed Primogen of Phoenix Court, please address me as— you seriously gonna note that down? Come on, it's a joke!
"So, who do you want me to be? Would you rather I were a puppeteer, manipulator, mastermind of all things, how do the youths call it again, tumblr sexyman? Would it be easier to give me a weapon, call me a war fanatic, paranoid madman, think First Blood? Or maybe I'll stay an overprotective, a little bit too patient father of a little girl who doesn't know what's best? Come on. Say it. I can be anyone you want, except for a good person."
Usually the one surviving tragedies are the strongest of the pack. If a Malkavian's gonna look death in the eye and come back relatively normal, that's gonna be the toughest one they make, right? Well, Ahiga sure is tough. Ahiga carries a war on his shoulders, and almost hopes for an end of the world to confirm his paranoid deslusion.
Except. You know. Usually childer of Malkav can exhibit some degree of Auspex.
Ahiga cannot. Ahiga is deaf to whatever calls from the Cobweb, but he was the only one left, so, out of options, the Council had to accept him as someone he could never be. After all, he is no replacement for his talented family, for the Holt Matriarch whose talent shone brightest of them all. No, Ahiga is just someone who lives on borrowed time. He knows that better than anyone.
So he adapts. He learns new tricks. He keeps talented childer. He keeps them close, his hands firm on their shoulders. He keeps tabs. He stores away blood. He waits. He juggles his small business empire and launders money for Kumiko, gets boons, pays in boons. The usual.
Laughing along to jokes that mean to harm him starts to drag, but he'll manage.
Eli Holt becomes the Oracle, gets too close to the Sun in the Prince's hands, and he needs protection.
N Holt claws her way out of her cocoon, poor little child, she'll tear herself apart without his guidance.
Ahiga watches.
He's older, he knows better, and he'll do whatever it takes to preserve his little utopia.
"Well, I don't see what the big deal is. Isn't it commonplace? The visionless leading the blind? Strictly speaking, my dear, you're a guest here, an unwanted one at that. You are intervening in my family affairs, too. Were it not for the laws of hospitality, I'd blow your brains out the second you crossed the border. It'd be amuzing. Well, can't do that now, can I? Ah, hell. Forget."

NEW CHARACTER INTRODUCTION
Tumblr media
(art by @subparticlesupercollider, go check out his comms!)
quintus fourier boylan
12th gen malkavian
53 years old, embraced at 29
he/him (probably nonbinary but he is Not self aware enough to figure that out)
predator type: pursuer
humanity 6 (for now)
my first v5 character i’m properly playing! he got a messy crit on his first hunting roll and accidentally killed a man so it’s all downhill from here.
set in a play by post game beginning one week after the beckoning, with a previously thriving domain now scrabbling to keep from falling apart.
looks like an incredibly normal office worker but has the worst vibes you’ve ever experienced (he has twice-cursed so he has Both malkavian banes)
hears the cobweb through various things around him, mostly radio static from the portable radio he carries with him all the time
he also hears… other things (cobweb loresheet… dot 5… he’s malkav*’s special little boy babeyy)
he’s kind of based on numbers stations and is obsessed with codes and encryption - he’s convinced he can figure out some Great Plan if he picks up on all the data and does the right calculation
constantly making notes to help him with this, but they’re all in code so it’s basically a meaningless string of numbers to everyone else
mostly dominate-specced with a few dots in auspex
has a personal rule against lying, and will never lie to someone’s face
his sire (who he has. a complex relationship with) basically dropped him in off the domain a couple of months ago and told him she’d be back soon
she notably is not back yet. he is definitely taking this well
*may or may not actually be malkav
there he is! my special little bland middle-aged man! i’d love any asks or questions about him while i’m figuring him out, so feel free to send any over!

I'm going to rank my favourite 5E clans and explain why under this cut
1. Tzimisce
Simply excellent all around. Interesting powers, interesting clan history, fun social-political dynamics to explore and a debilitating enough clan bane to come up with ways it might affect a person psychologically over time. A lot of my tzimisce characters explore the idea of "home" and belonging as well as the horrifying nature of having your brain rot from the inside not just from the beast but from even more innocuous toxic thought patterns like claiming ownership of friends. It must be so challenging to be a tzimisce and remain human, which is wonderful for storytelling and character studies. My only regret with this clan as a DM is that I'm committed to them seeming rare in my setting so there aren't many characters I can write.
2. Ventrue
They are, imo, the funniest clan. All I need to do is show you LaCroix and you understand. Though I can understand also why people think they are annoying for the reasons I find them hilarious. Let me pitch you this: my beloved Ventrue OC, Thomas, is a loser tech bro boyfailure who is entitled to everything and is regularly punished. He was sired illegally, swept under the rug and forced to associate with anarchs cuz no one else will take him. I never understood the beauty of misfortune comedy before I was introduced to Ventrue. It's all about the narrative framing.
3. Lasombra
Similar to Ventrue (obviously) but they have sexy evil Eldritch darkness powers. What's not to love. I recently read through the clanbook in its entirety with my partner and the way they are all so comically villain-like in how they conduct clan business it rivals the Tremere clan. I love their drama and their aesthetic. Their only ding is that you have to ignore a lot of awkwardly handled racism (to show how evil they are!) from the canon leader characters. I'll have to read Chicago by night soon and hope it handles it fine.
4. Nosferatu
You can't go wrong with a bunch of fucked up looking monster dudes. Nosferatu get a ton of points for how creative you can be with their character design, similar to tzimisce. I also really love how they are probably among the least-toxic clans to be a part of, so it's just as easy to write wholesome character dynamics as it is to write messed up ones. As a DM, they are also great utility characters that can write you out of a lot of corners. Need information? They literally just collect it for fun and profit. It's free world building and plot hook real estate.
5. Malkavian
Now listen... I know Malkavians have the obvious drawback of being frequently portrayed as mean-spirited caricatures of mentally ill people. However... If you are mentally ill yourself, writing one that is a respectful exploration of your struggles is really cathartic. Beyond that, though, my favorite part of the Malkavian experience is the cosmic horror element. I love how their antideluvian is some unknowable incorporeal being that connects all of them. I love unknowable mind breaking horror! And I love their utility as well. If your player is a Malkavian attuned to the cobweb, you can just speak to them as the Storyteller for free basically. It's great fun.
6. Tremere
Wizards.
...
Clan lore is good too. The rigid structure of the clan is good for making a world with a Chantry nearby feel larger and more powerful. Also I guess it's pretty fun that they can do real magic.
7. Toreador
They're kinda mid to me. I don't dislike them but a lot of what makes them unique in WOD is just normal typical vampire fluff in other media. They're seductive, romantic, artistic, yeah whatever. These things gotta be subverted or executed flawlessly for me to be invested so Toreador neither wins nor loses. It doesn't help that their 2/3 of their 5E disciplines are ones I find kinda boring in practice (Celerity, Auspex).
8. Hecata
Carried almost entirely by how funny I find the Giovanni clan, stands low-mid tier Hecata clan. It's sad how much this clan/clans got butchered in 5E. It suffers most clearly from WOD's desire to not "retcon" things in Vampire. Clan lore is non-existent because they tried to just mash a bunch of clans together and pretend like it makes sense and created what sounds like the most boring traits of all of them to be the default. Points for potential, and the ability to carry on playing as if you are simply one of the original clans that made up this one.
9. Gangrel
Even though by all means I should be into Gangrel, they still end up being kinda mid for me. They fulfill a similar niche that either Tzimisce, Nosferatu or actual werewolves could fill just as easily. There's nothing wrong with them, the things I see in them are just done better by other clans in my opinion. They become forgettable to me and I'm gonna have to will myself to make some more cuz it would make sense for my home game!
10. The Ministry
I think they could be very interesting. I think it's silly and goofy that one of their clan traits is "wants to make you evil", that's good for comedy. And the vibe they have is good. I love a good cult, I love snakes... But I don't know if I find the whole Followers of Set thing to be compelling unless I missed some lore about how Set has adapted in the modern world. Maybe it could be cool if Set was the Wyrm or whatever. The Ministry is good for plot devices but I don't know how interesting they are as characters otherwise.
11. Brujah
I admit I'm biased on this one. I think it's kinda sad that in "modern" day, the time period most vtm games are run, Brujah are just stock angry countercultural guys. They're set up to be protagonists of a story against corrupt leaders and...nothing else. The clan doesn't give you much to work with. Strong fast and sexy guys with their three disciplines and basically zero clan structure (I miss VTM Redemption philosopher Brujah) does aesthetic). Every good Brujah character is good because of their writing and gets no shortcuts from being Brujah.
12. Ravnos
The last two clans get like. Negative points for the racism baggage they were born with all the way back in the earlier editions. I think Ravnos has a bit more interesting clan lore (what with their antediluvian wiping them out in recent-ish canon memory) but it takes a lot of conscious effort to make a character that isn't an uncomfortable appropriation of nomadic culture stereotypes.
13. Banu Haqim
It's difficult to ignore how their clan bane used to be THAT... And the whole fact that their clan lore, to this day in 5E continues to struggle to untangle itself from islamic extremist stereotyping. Saying "oh the extremists are just the evil faction of this clan now!" doesn't really cut the level of how bad and uncomfortable and disrespectful this clan was. I am not equipped to write a character of this clan that does not exist entirely separate from its lore. You get no favors from Banu Haqim.
My thoughts on caitiff and thin bloods are separate, and I can't really put them on a numbered list due to how they feel like separate entities entirely in vampire. Might make a separate post?
Thanks for reading! Remember all the above content is just my opinion and I am a DM who makes ocs, I haven't actually been a player in this game as of me writing this. I'm sure it shows lol

Now I’m curious to hear about your VtM character! Impulse Embraces are always really fun (and I’m noticing very Malk-like)
[barrels into the room] MAN OH MAN I HOPE YOU'RE READY TO HEAR ABOUT LEO WEST, THE NUMBER ONE MALKAVIAN OF MY HEART
Tumblr media
[tiny pixel leo was made by @ slimejunior btw]
(It's so cool you wanna hear about him- this is my first time in a vtm chronicle, and while i'm not the best at roleplaying, i've been having a blast with the story. I'm sorry btw, this turned into a very long post- I jumped at the chance to ramble about almost everything I can about him- however, since my fellow players follow me here, I'm keeping quiet about certain parts of his character and past.)
Anyway! Leo West is an amnesiac(?) conspiracy theorist and Anarch Malkavian, and is for an on-going chronicle taking place in San Jose- us players have decided to name it Blood and Silicon (there's actually a blog dedicated to it that's run by one of the players).
Leo's a quiet and inquisitive man who's earnest and stubborn, and refuses to talk to the coterie about his issues (but really, none of the other members do that either). He knows very little about vampire society, as his sire refused to tell him anything before sending him away, and has been repeatedly described as a blank slate and full of potential- mostly due to his "newness" to Kindred unlife. He's probably being manipulated by at least 2 people at this point.
He's got Auspex and Obfuscate, and is (unintentionally) built as a stealth character. He also has the Sandman predator type- it's how his sire hunts, and he would prefer victims who wouldn't struggle, anyway.
With his occasional visions, it seems he's got connections to the Cobweb- additionally, since no one's explained to him what the Beast is (and his takes on the guise of his sire's voice), Leo is currently convinced his Beast is actually his sire just talking to him.
Tumblr media
While I described him as an amnesiac earlier, he hasn't completely forgotten everything.
However, my main form of communication is infodumping (/hj), so allow me to ramble below, even though I can't fit everything about him in here:
Leo was a hopeless romantic born on May 26, 1994, raised in Chicago and brought up as a Christian. He stopped believing in that faith sometime in high school; something Definitely happened during that time in his life, since it was also when he broke his nose and started smoking (but hey, if I don't know what happened, then he doesn't either /lh). He did eventually quit cigarettes in college, where he graduated and was a librarian for a while; he helped run the DnD sessions the library would hold every month :-)
In 2019, he met a man named Jeremiah: his future sire. J is a man I could make an entire post about- but tbh this isn't about him, so I'll give only the bare amount of information needed.
Jeremiah is a bartender who moved to Chicago from San Jose, and at some point in the first year of knowing Leo, he ended up blood-bonding him for reasons unknown. Leo, who was completely unaware that he was now Jeremiah's ghoul, experienced the symptoms of the bond and assumed he was in love- which surely was a whole thing for him, because at this point in Leo's life he had just come to the conclusion he would never fall in love, since he's never had the best luck in that part of his life. The two of them entered a relationship (or at least it seemed that way to Leo), and of course given the dynamic/power imbalance here- as well as Jeremiah in general- it wasn't a very good one.
Tumblr media
(Amy, Leo's sister, kinda picked up some bad vibes from her brother's partner, and very much dislikes him.)
During their almost-three years together while Leo served as his ghoul, Jeremiah used Dominate a lot on him, erasing his memories of anything that could be seen as Masquerade-breaching- meaning that Leo has no idea what he did for him.
Mr. West noticed his gaps in memory, of course, and with the help(?) of one of his more common library patrons, Chris, he fell down into a bit of a conspiracy rabbit hole to try and figure out what was happening to him. Sometime around this point he picked up his smoking habit again.
[As a result of J's actions, Leo no longer trusts his memory and carries around a notebook; It's also one of the reasons he avoids eye contact a lot, since that's necessary for Dominate.]
Tumblr media
Eventually he must've figured things out, or perhaps his curiosity got the better of him- but somehow, on September 16, 2021, Leo stumbled upon something that resulted in his untimely death at 27 years old.
Jeremiah Embraced him that night, although it's unknown whether he did it because he still needed Leo's servitude, or if he genuinely cared about his ghoul (and I am unsure which one is worse).
The rest of the events of his Embrace are a bit tricky to talk about- I can't go into much detail without giving much away- but with all the stress and trauma of what happened, his clan bane manifested as Dissociation; in tandem/addition to this, Leo's brain blocked off parts of itself, resulting in even more memory loss.
In fact, after Sept 16, there's about an entire month and a half of missing time for Leo, and he doesn't remember any of it (this was originally due to a misunderstanding of the game's timeline, but is now a part of the Lore).
Anyway, even though I can't go into specifics of what happened to Leo during this moment of his unlife, I can offer you this sort-of-meme about it:
Tumblr media
[At some point during this time J informed him of blood bonds, which was kind of a jerk move, considering his childe was having a bad mental moment already.]
It's been stated by Leo that Jeremiah sent him away to San Jose, and the fledgling currently has his coat- which implies J gave it to him as a gift, or at least let him take it with. His relationship with his sire right now is... complicated.
Anyway, Leo spent about a week in San Jose before meeting [aka getting kidnapped by] a Kindred named Harrison, who introduced him to the rest of the coterie. Currently, they're all a bit secretive, and Leo occasionally leads them into trouble (like lowkey breaching the Masquerade, and almost getting caught by a gang).
Throughout Blood and Silicon, Leo's been learning about Kindred unlife, and has additionally requested an informant to look into Jeremiah. (He's got a bit of a fixation on his sire- in his eyes, his investigation to figure out what's going has not ended, and it seems Jeremiah has many secrets..)
In the most recent session, the coterie has been gifted territory as a reward for doing a quest for Harrison. Meanwhile, something's going on with Leo, because vampires can't get headaches, can they?
I'm very excited to see where this leads...
[thank you for asking, this was fun to ramble about him <3]

concept: the mortal children of gods have a cobweb-type thing not unlike clan malkavian (something something result of a divine soul in a mortal body, the soul can access things paywalled by divinity but the body cannot, idk) a chaotic group chat and knowledge pool that’s 99% useless but the 1% of brilliance is life changing for those who are willing to sift through the nonsense.
anyway, enough exposition. durge learned in the demigod cobweb that Mystra’s birth name was Ariel. and they’ve been calling her that in their head for so long that they accidentally say it in front of Gale and he’s either confused or gets defensive of her. but astarion thinks its fucking hilarious and karlach is waiting patiently for her chance to call her that to her face. lae’zel quips about the humble beginning of a goddess. wyll says “crack the gilded persona of mystra and you’ll likely find ariel hiding behind it”. minthara just says “wizard, i know you believe you are nothing without (scoffs) ariel. but your magic does not fizzle out when you try to cast a spell. you can still channel the weave. it is ariel who believes you need mystra” or something, idk i haven’t written much minthara so i don’t exactly have her voice down in my head yet. but you get it. the party finds out her mortal name and has been frustrating her from a distance for 300 hours so far
when you mentioned the madness network, i imagined everyone in each cobweb being from the same god (like a shared antediluvian). so, like, bhaalspawn each have the access key to the bhaal cobweb, but not, like, selunes. what you have proposed is infinitely more chaotic tho. imagine children of rival gods being able to dox each other like that. imagine how many people would know exactly how to attain godhood with the same certainty as though they had done it themselves. would the gods, like, stop making more because they could be overthrown? or would they double down to outnumber the other voices in the madness network? it would likely still be more tolerable than the malk tapestry, but i cant imagine it wouldnt crack minds. given the clout and status that being a godling affords, i wonder what it would mean for the setting as a whole if they were all a bit off-kilter?

Vampire Clan: Malkavian
Tumblr media
Kooks, Seers, Lunatics, Madmen, Cassandras, Children of Malkav, Clan of the Moon, Malks, Jesters, Jokers, Mockers
Malkavians represent a distinguished vampiric clan known as the progeny of Malkav. This group is characterized by their deranged nature, stemming from the insanity inherited from their Antediluvian progenitor. Within the world of Cainites, Malkavians stand out as enigmatic and deeply disturbed individuals. They have embraced roles as seers and oracles, both among their fellow Kindred and the mortal population, serving as eerie figures driven by peculiar compulsions and possessing the ability to perceive the unseen.
Notorious for their pranks, which can range from whimsical to cruel, Malkavians have defied all odds and managed to endure as one of the oldest surviving lineages of vampires. As one of the original 13 Cainite clans, they can trace their history back to an era predating the biblical Deluge. Additionally, they played a significant role in the establishment of the influential Camarilla, cementing their reputation as one of the pillars of this organization in modern nights.
At first glance, clan Malkavian appears to be a fragmented and loosely connected group. Many Malkavians are only vaguely aware of their belonging to a clan, and their connections with one another are informal and often paternal, with sire-childe relationships being the most common. Unfortunately, Malkavian sires have a tendency to abandon their progeny.
Disciplines: Auspex, Domination, Obfuscate
Bane: Fractured Perspective —Afflicted by their lineage, these Malkavians are cursed with at least one type of mental derangement. Depending on their history and the state of their mind at death, they may experience delusions, visions of terrible clarity, or something entirely different.
However, delving beneath the surface reveals a captivating tapestry of paranoia and fascination within the Malkavian clan. Operating on a peculiar timescale of their own, Malkavians spontaneously gather for events that are often incomprehensible to outsiders. How they become aware of these gatherings is usually left unexplained, and when explanations are offered, they are often unreliable or nonsensical. Yet, if one probes deeper, it becomes evident that the Malkavians possess a remarkable level of organization. Their organization is so profound that they are unaware of its existence, instead pursuing unfathomable and arcane goals without even realizing their significance.
This organization, commonly referred to as the "cobweb," "Malkavian Time," or the "Madness Network," represents a shared consciousness that binds all Malkavians together. The intensity of the voices within this network varies among Malkavians, but every member at least senses its call and can interact with it to some extent. The memories of deceased Malkavians persist within the Cobweb, strongly suggesting that Malkav himself is intertwined with this network. Only Malkavians have access to the cobweb, and even they possess only a limited understanding of its workings. Most Malkavians simply listen to the voices within, but elders have demonstrated a remarkable ability to manipulate and influence the rest of the clan through this mysterious network.
Tumblr media
The name "Malkavian" possibly derives from the Latin phrase "mala cavilla," meaning "bad mockery." Throughout vampire society, Malkavians have traditionally occupied two distinct roles: seers and jesters. As seers, Malkavians rely on their advanced Auspex discipline and the Cobweb, also known as the Madness Network, to obtain information. However, due to their inherent nature, this information is often skewed, incomplete, filtered through fractured perspectives, or outright deceitful.
The jester aspect of the Malkavians is somewhat more intricate. Pranks and mischief are deeply ingrained in Malkavian clan traditions. The precise purpose of these pranks is subject to debate, as they often aim to disrupt the perceptions of their targets, but they can also be sadistic in nature.
Within the Camarilla, Malkavians are tolerated but rarely hold the position of prince. Instead, they often occupy important roles as primogen or other figures of authority. Princes, recognizing the profound insanity of Malkavians, grant them a certain degree of leniency. In return, Malkavians are generally expected to exercise enough self-control to avoid breaching the Masquerade. This arrangement is not born out of benevolence but rather driven by mutual fear. Princes view Malkavians as fundamentally unknowable, and their preference is to keep them content and quiet, as unhappy Malkavians have a tendency to introduce bizarre and inexplicable incidents into the equation. On the other hand, Malkavians rely on the protection offered by the Camarilla and have been adapted, as mentioned earlier, to make them more compliant within its framework.
Many Malkavians possess a unique insight into the world around them. Through their shared madness and their powers of Auspex and Domination, they often catch glimpses of the future or the past. However, true oracles and seers among the Malkavians transcend these common abilities. Blessed or cursed with powerful visions that strike without warning, the origins of this connection remain shrouded in mystery. Some Malkavians embrace these powers and attempt to channel them, while others try to ignore the visions and carry on as if nothing happened. In contrast, some insensitive Malkavians exploit the image of the prophet for personal gain, resembling mortal fortune-tellers who employ vague prophecies to secure their own safety. However, those with genuine insight often suffer, as they receive visions they initially fail to comprehend and then helplessly witness their unfolding. During the Dark Ages, the Malkavian Orders of Mystery, also known as Ordos, sought to harness the gift of prophecy in an effort to emulate the Methuselah-Oracles of antiquity. However, with the formation of the sects, their practices fell into disuse.

Her Sire, who had taken up the night shift as a guard at the psychiatric hospital she'd eventually come to work at long before she ever had the thought of getting her degree in psychology, took note of her dedication and prowess within her field (which she'd went into with a 'if I can't help myself, at the very least I can try and help others - maybe even garner a deeper understanding of myself' attitude) and initiated a relationship between the two with the eventual intent to sire. As the two grew closer, having even gone on a handful of dates (which was a big deal to her on account of how alien her depression made her feel amongst people a lot of the time) - her paying no real mind to the fact that they were exclusively late-night jaunts - even on the few occasions when their schedules aligned for them to technically be free for a daytime dalliance.
He abused that trust, as Kindred are want to do, Embracing her on November 16, 2004.
Blondie's depression and feelings of alienation from society have only been worsened by the Bane afflicting Clan Malkavian (which, in and of itself, is a double whammy on account of how touch-starved, for lack of a better word, the Kindred normally are with their aeons of unmitigated distrust and pension for staking their allies in the backs)
In more recent nights, she's taken to Noddism. A strange pivot, to be sure, but one that's not without merit as she was religious in life if not extremely so. Catholicism, specifically, (the stain-glassed windows are neat, even if I'm not particularly religious myself) and the guilt typically associated with the faith likely didn't help her mental state while she was alive. It certainly doesn't now that she's dead as she feels as if, in being Embraced, she's been abandoned by God. Damned, if you will. Her sire abandoned her, too, after teaching her the basics. A worthwhile member of the Clan had been created and, in his eyes, his presence was no long needed. And Caine? Well the old man doesn't exactly show up to partake in any banquets - even when he is invited.
She's currently traveling from domain to domain - doing what she can to piece together the story of Caine in an, albeit futile search for an answer to the question "why?" - offering up her services as an Oracle to any Prince or Baron willing to let her peruse their libraries or bother members of their domain for information. If she can't get them directly from The Almighty(tm), the second-best thing would probably be the guy who may very well still be walking around.
Currently she's very much stuck in Chicago acting as a liaison/secondary psychologist between the city's Malkavians and their Primogen, Jason "son" Newberry, for their mandatory group-counseling sessions until she can gain access to another Scholar's library.
Side thingies:
My, albeit intentionally tragic as to meet the requirements of the Hero's Journey, Hunter for a 2004 campaign is her nephew! The two didn't actually know one another in life as he wasn't raised by the family, but I still think it's a neat enough detail to include.
In putting Blondie together in my mind like a Lego set I ended up creating a parallel between her and Lilith (and their respective relationships to Caine/The Almighty), if an unintentional one as I hadn't really dug too terribly deeply into the Dark Mother's lore just yet. Here's the specific quote I'm referring to from the Gehenna: Time and Judgement Sourcebook "You might ask why Lilith would choose to take revenge on Caine, rather than on the Almighty, who both cursed Lilith and indirectly caused the death of Lilith's children by cursing Caine. The answer is simple - Lilith, is anything but stupid. The Almighty, if He is even still involved in the World of Darkness at all, is beyond even Lilith's reach that trying to take revenge on him would be pointless… Caine, on the other hand, is readily accessible to someone with Lilith's resources and determination… and honestly, he deserves to meet his end."
Her being a Siren is predicated on her innate desire to want to be, well, wanted. By someone, anyone really. The dalliances with the folks she picks up, and even the feelings associated with them, may be fleeting - but for the time being it scratches that itch ever-so-slightly. It's her greatest tragedy, I think, that a shame her Clan Appointed Drawbacks are going to keep her from ever from every really feeling as if she has a place anywhere. Destined to wander from place to place searching for unobtainable answers to a question without any satisfying ones :/

saw this question being asked on reddit so i want to put it forth to you: do you think there are any antediluvians that aren't straight up evil or hate their childer? haqim, saulot, malkav?
[waves] hi!
Honestly, the hard answer is...what the antediluvians are like is up to you and what story you want to tell. In the words of my DM, "Do whatever you want. They're not real."
Sourcebooks will tell you different things. Some paint Haqim as the Single Good Vaddy in all the universe. Some say Saulot achieved Nirvana and is like, so Pure and Good, that his death will distract God enough to stop Him from killing Kindred. Malkav is the mod of the Malkavian Clan group chat. Conversely, books say Haqim is a bloodthirsty cult leader; Saulot roils with rage within Tremere's body, and Tremere's anguish is so incomprehensible that his body morphed into a tapeworm; and Malkav commits suicide because he hates existence that much.
So like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Do you want some fic recs about this?
Upgraded by BatsuGames - Malkav makes a brief appearance within the Cobweb and it's hella cute
we were cold and we were clear by @ryttu3k - Part of series that does a deep dive into Vykos' character, so of course the Eldest is involved. If memory serves, he speaks in this one
The Seduction of Goratrix by Owen Laikos - Though it's pay what you want on DriveThruRPG (suggested donation of $3), this erotica novella is well worth it. Tremere and Goratrix's epic love story, where magic sex solves every problem.
Best of luck out there!
