Hard disk याला Hard disk drive (HDDS) किंवा Hard drive असेही म्हणतात. Hard disk हे एक स्टोरेज डिव्हाइस म्हणून काम करते. Hard disk चे कार्य संगणकातील डेटा कायमस्वरूपी संग्रहित करून पुनर्प्राप्त करने आहे. Hard disk हे एक नाॅन-व्होलॅटाइल स्टोरेज उपकरण आहे. नॉन-व्होलटाइल म्हणजे संगणक बंद आसल्यावरही त्यातील माहिती सुरक्षित ठेवता येते. ही एक Secondary memory असते.

जगातली सर्वात पहिली हार्ड डिस्क1956 मध्ये IBM या अमेरिकी कंपनी ने बाजारात आणली. या हार्ड ड्राईव्ह चा वापर सर्वात पहिल्यांदा RAMAC 350 या सिस्टिम मधेय केला गेला तेव्हा त्याची साठवन क्षमता फक्त ५ MB ची होती या एक हार्ड डिस्क ची किंमत ठेवा 50000 अमेरिकी डॉलर होती १ MB ची किंमत 10000 अमेरिकी डॉलर होती‌.

1963 मधेय IBM ने 2.6 MB ची रिमूव्हेबल (Removeable) हार्ड ड्राईव्ह (Hard Drive) चा विकास केला.

1980 मधेय IBM ने १ GB ची साठवण क्षमता असलेली Hard Drive (हार्ड ड्राईव्ह) बनवली तेव्हा तिची किंमत 40000 अमेरिकी डॉलर ठेवली गेली.

1992 मधेय Rodlime ने ३.५ इंचाची हार्ड ड्राईव्ह डेव्हलोप केली तेव्हा तिची साठवन क्षमता 10 MB ची होती.

1992 मधेय Seagate कंपनी ने 7200 RPM ची हार्ड डिस्क (Hard Disk ) बाजारात उतरवली.

1996 मधेय Seagate कंपनी ने 10000 RPM ची Hard Disk बाजारात आणली.

2000 मध्ये 15000 RPM जगाच्या समोर ठेवली.

हार्ड डिस्कला हार्ड डिस्क ड्राइव (HDD) या नावाने ही ओळखले जाते. दैनदैनंदिन जिवनात ज्याप्रमाणे विविध गोष्टींना सभाळून किंवा त्याचे जतन करून ठेवण्याचे आवश्यकता असते त्याचप्रमान डिजिटल डाटा डॉक्युमेट, फोटोज, विडियो, सॉफ्टवेअर इत्यादी महत्वाच्या माहितीचा साठा करून डाटा सुरक्षित ठेवण्यासाठी हार्ड डिस्कचा उपयोग केला जातो. Small Computer System Interface (SCSI)

साल १९७० साली small computer System interface (SCSI) विकसित केले गेले. अधिकतर याचा उपयोग छोट्या संगणकामध्ये केला जातो. SCSI ड्राईव 640 MB/s च्या गतीने डेटा ट्रासफर करू शकते. एका वेळेत 16 ड्राइव कनेक्ट करण्याची क्षमता या ड्राईव जवळ असते.

Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment (PATA)

PATA हार्ड डिस्क सर्वात आधी साल १९८६ रोजी बनवण्यात आली. PATA हार्ड डिस्कचा सपूर्ण नाव Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment आहे. Western Digital कंपनीने PATA हार्ड डिस्कची निर्मिती केली. ही हार्ड डिस्क (IDE) Integrated drive electronics किंवा (EIDE) Enhanced integrated drive electronic च्या रूपामध्येसुधा ओळखले जाते. PATA ड्राइव 133 MB/s पर्यतच्या वेगाने डेटा ट्रासफर करू शकतात.

Solid – State Drives (SSD) (SSD Hard Disk Information in Marathi)

Solid – stote Drive ही अधिक खर्चिक असून याचा वेग इतरापेक्षा अधिक आहे. ही ड्राइव आजची नवीनतम ड्राइव मानली जाते आहे. SSD डेटा स्टोर करण्या साठी flash memory technology चा वापर केला जातो. या हार्ड डिस्कमध्ये कमी वेळात जास्त फाइल ट्रासफर केल्या जातात त्यामुळे अधिकतर कंपन्या SSD चा वापर सोयीस्कर मानतात.

Serial advance Technology Attachment (SATA) ही हार्ड डिस्क आजही सामन्यता सर्व संगणकामध्ये आढळते. SATA ड्राइव प्रमुखपणे दोन आकारात आढळते. एक डेक्कस्टॉप कंप्यूटर साठी 3.5 इंचाची हार्ड ड्रइव आणि दुसरी लैपटॉप कंप्युटर साठी 2.7 इंचाची हार्ड ड्राइव. SATA ची गती PATA पेक्षा अधिक असते. SATA ड्राइव्ह 300 MB/s पर्यतच्या गतीने अझ डेटा ट्रासफर करते.

HDD जर तुम्हाला खूप डेटा स्टोर करायचा असेल आणि कमी पैशात काही चांगली स्टोरेज device शोधत असाल तर HDD तुमच्यासाठी उत्तम आहे तुम्ही या मधेय जास्त स्पीड ची हार्ड डिस्क ही घेऊ शकता जसे कि १०००० RPM किंवा १५००० RPM वाली हार्ड डिस्क

SSD बदल चे माझे मत

SSD ही खूप फास्ट असते पण याचा सर्वात मोठा तोटा असा कि २४० GB च्या SSD च्या किमती मधेय तुम्ही एक ५०० GB ची हार्ड डिस्क विकत घेऊ शकतात पण जर तुमचे हलके फुलके काम असेल आणि तुम्हाला जास्त स्टोरेज नसली तरी चालेल तर तुम्ही SSD घ्या SSD ने तुमचे काम खूप फास्ट होतील
