📸 🎥 ATP Challenger Livestream (via website)
The second set turned out to be a total demolition. There, Bonzi had an erratic service game to start the second set, ending it with a forehand error for Darian's early break to 1-0. Darian proceeded to hold his service game to 2-0, and almost doubled the break in the third game, only for it to happen two points later over Bonzi's continuous forehand errors (except one that successfully went down-the-line), with a double fault in between to open the gate.
Darian successfully held his service game 5-1 before he found his way to breadstick Bonzi to close the second set: another erroneous service game, which happened at the expense of Bonzi's double fault as a pinnacle of his poor play in the match. As a result, Darian advanced to his first Challenger quarterfinals since 2021.

3D Printers for Kids & STEAM Education
What is 3D printing?
Tumblr media
If you’ve been trying to keep up with trends in technology, you’ve probably heard of 3D printing. It’s a process that allows three dimensional objects to be printed using a special machine. It uses a process called additive printing to create an object out of printed layers of a material, like plastic. You can think of it as the opposite of subtractive manufacturing, which is when an object is cut out of a material.
3D printing has a lot of unique uses in science, engineering, and even healthcare. It’s also becoming a popular and effective way to incorporate STEAM education in schools. There are some great 3D printers for kids that engage them in STEAM skills and content.
3D Printing for Kids: The Process
Helping kids get started with 3D printers for education, whether at home or school, is easier if you have a process you can walk them through. A process can help them feel more comfortable with 3D printing,  introduces them to the steps of problem-solving, and engages them in innovative thinking.
1. Identify a problem
Almost every design process starts with a problem that needs to be solved. Help kids determine what problems they have that could be solved through 3D printing. For example, is there an object they have a need for? This could be as simple as wanting a new trinket, or as complex as needing to build a replacement part for a toy or household item. For a class at school, you might even define the problem for them, such as needing to design a keychain of the school’s mascot that doesn’t use a lot of material.
2. Research
This step doesn’t need to take a long time, but can save kids some frustrations as they move forward with their 3D printing. Research can involve finding a model of the item or making sure they know what elements the object would need to work properly.
3. Imagine and plan
Now that there’s a clear problem to solve and kids have done some research about what the design should look like, it’s time for them to plan out their 3D printed object. The planning phase works best just with pencil and paper, where elements of the ideal object can be sketched, erased, and redrawn as needed until it fulfills what your kids imagined.
4. Create in 3D
Once kids have finalized their design idea, it’s time to actually create it using 3D software. A lot of teaching and learning and trial and error can take place at this step of the 3D printing process. Especially when using 3D printers for kids, you might need to walk them through small steps to successfully using a 3D printing program.
5. Testing the print
Few things work right the first time. The design could look great in the 3D program, but be a little flimsy or bulky when actually printed. That’s why testing the print is important. When using 3D printers in schools, this is an excellent opportunity for teaching critical thinking skills when the design isn’t perfect right away. It encourages kids to test their design and then make improvements before declaring they’ve successfully solved their initial problem.
Benefits of 3D Printers in the Classroom
Tumblr media
There are quite a few benefits of 3D printers for education. First, they’re a great way to engage students in active, hands-on learning. They real-world STEAM skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and innovation. Students can work together as they expand their imaginative thinking and teamwork skills.
3D printers for schools can also help teach curriculum. A lot of students struggle with abstract concepts, but 3D printing provides visual models that can help students learn these more difficult ideas. They can also supplement the curriculums of almost any school subject. For example, history students can create models of historical artifacts and language arts students can print objects that represent symbols from their readings.
How 3D Printing Fuels STEAM Education
Tumblr media
1. Science
Being able to 3D print products for science helps students grasp material. A great example is when trying to teach geology concepts, like how landforms are created. If students research concepts such as erosion, deposition, and weathering, then they can use 3D printers to create models of rivers or mountains. It reinforces science material in a way that lets students explore concepts to their fullest.
2. Technology
Technology is a huge part of today’s society, and anytime students get to link their learning with something they use everyday, they are more engaged and ready to learn. With 3D printers for schools, students use technology every time they create and print something. But there are other technology applications for 3D printing, too. For example, students can create and print their own cell phone cases. It’s captivating and exciting for students to make something they can use everyday.
3. Engineering
One of the best ways to incorporate engineering into curriculum is to use a lot of project-based learning. 3D printers for education provide an easy and cost-effective way to students to practice the steps of the design process: test their ideas, have the freedom to make mistakes, fix design issues, and complete multiple trials. They also let schools expand engineering curriculum to include design and computer-based skills.
4. Art and Design
3D printing is not much different from art, especially if you compare it to other three dimensional art forms like sculpture or clay. But in the world of art and design, 3D printers have been used to push boundaries in fashion and graphic design. It’s even extended into the field of music, with students tasked with designing and printing working instruments.
5. Math
Concepts in mathematics can become pretty complex. When students struggle to understand a new idea with just a diagram, say on a worksheet or white board, 3D printing can really help. It’s easier for students to grasp 3D concepts if they can see a 3D model, or better yet, design one themselves.

Winnipeg Ch F: Ryan Peniston [Alt] def. Leandro Riedi 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP Challenger Livestream (via website)
Some or most of the flow might be in Ryan’s racquet, while Riedi’s point construction often stood out in several ways. However, maintaining the balance of power could be the key between both players, especially toward the end of the match. Ryan had 15 chances to break as a result of him trying to dare going down the line at times, apart from how he constructed his points in the first set. Even if there were several dips in the second set, he managed to hang in and bounce back while trying to keep Riedi’s balance off.
Service game-wise, not a lot separated both players. Scoring twice more aces than Riedi, Ryan won 2% more points from his first serves. Interestingly, despite double-faulting just five times to Riedi’s 7, Riedi’s second serves turned out to be the most vulnerable all match with 4% difference, hence Ryan frequently went after it in his service games, then went after the baseline game to ensure a working follow-up in his favor.
This marked Ryan and Riedi being back on track in their own ways. While this was Ryan's maiden Challenger title after four different Challenger final appearance (three of them came on clay) and raised his rank to 207 live, Riedi is also back post-injury after another appearance in the Hopman Cup final, with hopes to gain confidence for the upcoming US Open qualification rounds. This should be interesting to see how both performs, considering their latest runs here!

Even though some parts of the third set were filled by some let cord moments, it all boiled down to who controlled their power and aggression more. Riedi had his moments, but some points' execution that went too far led the moment to shift back in Ryan's favor in the most important one.
Riedi's backhand down-the-line winner notably set himself one point ahead, but it was insufficient to break as Ryan successfully held his service game 4-4. However, in the ninth game, Riedi's forehand errors (which went too wide) not only resulted in the gate to Ryan's break being opened, but also created and converted said break point for Ryan to finally get the chance to serve for the match at 5-4.
In the tenth game, Ryan had a solid service game (bar a hiccup) to set up his match point. However, Ryan's match point was saved when Riedi tried to crack down Ryan's defenses through the forehand side, eventually getting Ryan run over. Ryan then averted further damage thanks to an unreturned serve, taking the third set 6-4 to secure his maiden Challenger title.

In the second set, it appeared that point construction and pacing became the aspects of attention as a result of how the set was set up. It could be the lapse of Ryan's moment, or it could also be a sign of Riedi stepping up. Here is the story from the set.
Riedi's baseline game started to take shape after he held his service game to 1-0 as a result of his constant volleying (and pressing). He went after Ryan's forehands for some reason, which ended up being too wide for Riedi's break to 2-0. Somehow, Ryan had other ideas, where his backhand down-the-line winner led him to have 3 break points, which were all saved but only to be converted at the expense of Riedi's two consecutive double faults (2-1). While Ryan was supposed to level the match, Riedi beg to differ, with a volley exchange to set himself a point ahead 2 points before his swift forehand return secured another break (3-1) before its consolidation to 4-1.
In the seventh game, Riedi then came up with a backhand lob in response to Ryan's volley to hold his service game 5-2. Two games later, Riedi should have served for the second set, but somehow he got broken at the expense of his two consecutive double faults when he tried to sustain his baseline game, which was one of the most vulnerable other than his second serves (to his forehand side) (5-4). When Ryan supposed to level the match, Riedi somehow had ideas from his backhand side to set himself 2 points ahead, resulting in Ryan’s error sprees until Ryan double-faulted to close the set 6-4 for Riedi, hence the match went to the deciding set instead, where every element counts for the title.

The Winnipeg Challenger finals had alternate Ryan Peniston, who defeated sixth seed Arthur Cazaux 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in a classic, facing Leandro Riedi, who denied an all-British final by defeating third seed Liam Broady 6-3, 6-2 to advance to his first final since January (Canberra Challenger). Return depth and rally tolerance would be one of the most important aspects in this match, considering how dynamic would this be.
Interestingly, the early parts of the first set was a statement from Ryan, as he controlled most of the flow from the baseline. Right in the first game, Riedi's failed volley led to Ryan's break point, which was converted thanks to Ryan's volley pass that got Riedi run over. Ryan then consolidated his lead to 2-0, and somehow opening his path to open the path before he doubled the break (4-0) at the expense of Riedi's forehand error.
Riedi started to find ideas since then, including when Ryan should have served for the first set for the first time at 5-2. Somehow, Ryan double-faulted for Riedi's break point before its conversion at the expense of the former's forehand error. Riedi then held to 5-3 despite having to save another set point, which meant Ryan would have the chance to serve for the first set for the second time. Interestingly, Riedi came up with a swift forehand winner to foil one of Ryan’s set point before the latter successfully took the first set 6-4 after an unreturned serve. Judging by the ending of the first set, the second set could be stiffer but it could also be interesting in some ways.

Winnipeg Ch R2: Darian King [Q] def. Benjamin Bonzi [3] 6-3, 6-1 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP Challenger Livestream (via website)
This match was on Darian's racquet thanks to his intelligent play outside of Bonzi's continuous erratic service game. This was reflected through their break point conversion rates, where even if both players had 7 opportunities to break, Darian successfully broke 5 times, mostly putting pressure on Bonzi's serves.
This was also reflected from their service games, where Bonzi only had a 38% second serves conversion rate, fading because he double-faulted twice more than Darian (4 to 2). On the other hand, Darian was outstanding in his first serves, where he won 18% more points thanks to his attempts to engage Bonzi in a rally.
In his first Challenger quarterfinal since the Lexington Challenger 2021, Darian will face Ryan Peniston, who earlier defeated Christian Harrison 6-0, 6-2 in an all-alternates clash. Knowing both players, it would be interesting to see how everything turned out, especially with Ryan's frequently aggressive style when he is on. Their intuition would also be tested in general, so should be one to watch/follow!

📸 🎥 ATP Challenger Livestream (via website)
After today's start of play was delayed due to rain, third seed Benjamin Bonzi faced a comeback qualifier Darian King for a spot in the quarterfinals. While Bonzi had a rough patch throughout the season, hence he went back to the Challenger path (all the way dated from his 2021 runs) since being dropped out of the Top 100, Darian's latest tournaments came from the ITFs before the qualifying rounds.
Interestingly, the match started with Bonzi's early break at the expense of Darian's forehand errors (all went too wide), while Darian somehow levelled the play to 3-3 at the expense of Bonzi's erratic service game moments after heavy wind suspended the play. Subsequently, Darian held thanks to his cross-court forehand passing (4-3) started to get the hang through the rhythm, volleying his way to secure his first break point before the conversion came at the expense of Bonzi's errors (5-3).
Afterward, Darian was supposed to serve for the first set. Bonzi's volleys almost brought him breaking and levelling the play (which resulted in his first break point), but it was not enough after some erroneous responses. Darian then found the loophole and successfully took the first set 6-3.
