Hey, I saw your comment on the post about reading about occult history and checking the sources of books before buying and believing them. And I noticed you were interested in Iberian deities. I was super curious what you already know about them! I'm a polytheist myself and practitioner of witchcraft, but I'm also a religious studies student with a focus on mythologies and ancient cultures. If you've got any resources I could look at, that would be awesome!
Hi! Unfortunately I don't know much since there's not a lot of sources on Iberian mythology. Iberian literature is practically non-existant. Our ancestors were good at battling but kind of lacking in the cultural side of things, so I kind of understand why Romanization was so easy to complete (in opposition to the actual conquest of the land that took ages).
So the sources we have come mainly from Greek and Roman authors who created some stories that have no archeological or historical basis (like the existence of Atlantis) and also some half-truths (like the kingdom of Tartessos which I find so interesting, here's a source for that: https://www.thelocal.es/20230419/groundbreaking-discovery-sheds-light-on-spains-mythical-tartessos-civilization)
Our sources on Iberian gods come mostly from archaeology. I personally like this blog since it provides the academic sources they get their information from: https://santuariosibricospruebaticum.wordpress.com/category/deidades-ibericas/
I would also suggest you look into Galician mythology. It's an area in the North of Spain that's heavily Celtic influenced to the point where they still call the celebrations of October 31 Samhain instead of Halloween. They are known for their meigas (Galician word for witches). If you ever go to Galicia you'll find a lot of witch-inspired souvenirs. Though not really ancient, they have a lot of mythology that's mainly about elementals/the fae. My favorite one is the Santa Compaña:
So to sum it up, we don't know much about the Iberian gods because our sources come from Romans and Greeks and the Iberians sincretised to Religio Romana so they didn't really write about the indigenous gods. Most of the current folklore and legends we know about nowadays comes from the medieval age and it's kind of a mixture of stories told by the Christian and Muslims inhabitants of Spain at that time. It either focuses on monarchs or on elemental beings, but not really on gods since mostly everyone was monotheist at that time. If you're interested in these legends let me know because I do have more sources on this, though all of them are in Spanish.

Season of the Witch
- The origins (and places) of the Cailleach
The Cailleach, divine Hag/Crone of Gaelic folklore, is often portrayed as the embodiment of Winter. She is said to appear as the earth is dying, and is known as a bringer of storms. She is said to control the weather and determine the length of Winter and its harshness.
She is also said to be responsible for the formation of many of the country’s most prominent landmarks, and there are probably more geographical and archaeological features on the Irish landscape, that are associated with the Cailleach, than any other character in Irish folklore (see pics for landmarks & associations).
As a creator of the land and controller of the weather, the Cailleach would appear to represent an archetypal sovereignty/land goddess, whose origins may be traced back to Bronze-Age, or even Neolithic cosmologies.
However, despite her presence on the landscape, the Cailleach does not appear in ANY of the Irish literary myths. In fact, most of the traditions we now associate with the Cailleach (such as her association with winter), can only be traced back as far as the late-19th Century Gaelic revival in Scotland, where she features much more prominently than in Irish folklore.
Her earliest appearance in any written form is in an ‘untitled’ poem from a 16th Century manuscript (though its language suggests some of it was written at a much earlier date - possibly 10th Century) which, after it was first translated in 1899, has come to be known as ‘The Lament of the Old Woman of Beare’.
In the poem, the woman (name unknown) describes herself as an aging Queen of the Beara Peninsula in southwest Ireland; lamenting the passing of her youth and the riches and attention that went with it. The poem’s essentially christian narrative holds no hope of redemption or regeneration for the the old woman or the ‘old ways’ that she seems to represent.
Although the poem is untitled, the original introduction line reads… “Sentainne Bérri Cecenit íarna senad don chríni” (The Old Woman of Beare said this when senility had aged her).
The Old-Irish word ‘Sentainne’ meaning ‘Old-Woman’ would come to be replaced in later Middle-Irish with the word ‘Caillech’ - which in Old-Irish means “the veiled one” (specifically a ‘Nun’) but by the 10th Century, had come to signify any woman beyond childbearing years (which was OLD in those days).
The Old Irish ‘caillech’ ('veiled one'), from Old Irish ‘caille’ (‘veil/cloak’) is generally thought to be a loan-word from the Latin ‘pallium/palli(i)’ meaning ‘cover’ or ‘cloak’ (usually in reference to religious vestments - hence the 'nun' translation).
If so, this would make the Cailleach a ‘relative’ newcomer (etymologically speaking), which has led many medievalist academics to propound that she is an early-medieval folk figure rather than an ancient divinity (no surprise there !). . . However, this could be yet another ‘folk-etymology’ - where the meaning of a word changes due to a popular misconception regarding its origins.
Classical writings indicate that the “Cailleach” may have been known as early as the 5th Century BC; in the area known today as Galicia, which gets its name from a Celtic tribe known as the Callaeci. This tribe on the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula were first named as the ‘Kallaikoi’ by the Greek historian Herodotus in the 5th Century BC; before being Latinised by Roman writers to ‘Callaeci’ in the 2nd Century BC - a name which Ptolemy suggested as meaning ‘worshippers of the Callaec’.
Interestingly, in Spanish folklore, another name for Galicia is "Terra Meiga" (Land of the Witches).
Given that recent archaeological, linguistic and genetic evidence points to a migration into Ireland by ‘Proto-Indo European/Proto-Celtic’ speakers during the Bronze-Age (c.2000 BCE); rather than the traditional view of a later migration of ‘Celtic/Old Irish’ speakers during the Iron-Age, (c.500-100 BCE): It seems unlikely that the word(s) ’caillech/caille’ would be ‘borrowed’ from Latin into Irish at such a late date.
Both Italic (Latin) and Celtic (Irish) are closely related branches of the Indo-European language family; with both languages diverging from the original Proto Indo-European (PIE) language sometime after 2000BCE (The similarity between the Celtic & Italic languages has even led some scholars to believe that there was a Proto Italo-Celtic language spoken prior to their divergence from each other).
Therefore, it now seems likely that the word ‘caille’ derives directly from the PIE root word, *kel- meaning ‘to conceal/hide/cover’.
However. *kel- is also the root of another PIE word - *Kolyo - meaning ‘the coverer’, which is thought to describe a (hypothetical) goddess who is half maiden / half grotesque, governing the realm of death, but also the life which is sustained by death… sound familiar?
It is therefore possible that the modern Cailleach is a variation of this ancient female deity/character (*Kolyo), brought here in the Bronze Age by the same Indo-European speakers, from whom the peoples of Ireland and Scotland are descended ?
- Jane Brideson
Tumblr media
The Labbacallee (Hag’s Bed) Wedge Tomb in Co. Cork is said to be another of the Cailleach’s dwellings; which in this instance, she shared with her husband, the druid Mog Roith. Local folklore tells us that during an argument, a huge rock lying in the nearby river was thrown by the Cailleach at her fleeing husband, pinning him to the riverbed. . .

12) Any books that disappointed you?. 17) Did any books surprise you with how good they were? and 20) What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations? Thanks.
12. Yeah! I read La primera meiga by Juan J. Prieto cuz I had gotten the book ages ago and it looked really good (witches in Galicia?? Hell yeah!), only to discover that it was an absolutely TERRIBLE book. It was so bad I literally finished it and went directly to the nearest goodwill to drop it off. The writing was meh and the plot was terrible and weirdly religious?? I thought I was getting a historical novel about witches and instead it's about Jesus being reborn?? Like,, what. Anyways, disappointed doesn't cover it tbh :/
17. Funnily enough, the Chalet School books were probably the most unexpectedly enjoyable books I've read this year (though I just started them last month so this may be recency bias). I always expected them to be bad because although I love (boarding) school stories, all the books I had tried to read from the 1920s (mainly Angela Brazil books) had been unbearably boring. So I kinda didn't even want to get into them. But a book collector I follow said they were really good so I decided to give them a shot, and they're actually really fun!! I'm actually a little upset I've only found 14 online haha
20. Most anticipated release was Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reed because tennis!!! I haven't had time to read it yet tho lol so idk if it'll live up to my expectations but I'm crossing my fingers!!
Thanks for the questions! :D

55, 58 💞
Thanks a lot for the asks anon it means a lot❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
55. Favourite Fairy Tale?
I've always really liked stories about fairies in the woods and I've always been fascinated by them (my imaginary friend was a fairy called Fizz for example) so I wouldn't say a particular tale but the mythos surrounding fairies, and more concretely, Galician meigas.
58. Four talents you are proud of having?
Fuck. It's really hard for me to compliment myself but I'll try:
-People say I write really good and I'm writing a book so let's see where it goes
-I'm able to make up a story on the spot! I tried this last summer where I could make up a scary story while I was telling it and people believed it!
-Related to this, I recently found I'm a really good liar!
-I'm good at making and keeping studying schedules I guess (this last one was hard)
Okay, that was really fun!

Hello there! :D I'm a huge fan of mythologies from various different cultures, so I was wondering if you could tell a bit about Spanish mythology? Anything from mythical creatures to popular legends. Thank you in advance! ^^
SPANISH LEGENDS AND MYTHOLOGY
Hello! Sorry for taking so long to answer. Unfortunately, this theme is not my specialty at all, but I’ll try my best to give you a decent answer :’D
PRE-ROMAN IBERIANS
Tumblr media
Little is known about Iberian customs and beliefs. They had a very rich and flourishing culture and social life, but all the written testimony had been lost due to the fact that their writing has not bee de-codified yet. Apparently they were polytheists and, according to the late chronicles of roman historians during the invasion, had received a lot of religious influence from Phoenicians and Greeks, their permanent trade partners for centuries. There had been some discoveries like The Lady of Baza and the Lady of Elche that suggest a strong leadership by Priestesses in the religious life.
As for mythology, it had been heavily inspired by the Helenic beliefs about this part of the world. According to Carthaginian chronicles there used to be a temple where the “Columns of Heracles” were supposed to be, at the edge of the Strait of Gibraltar. Hannibal Barca is said to have sworn eternal hate to Rome in that temple. One of the theories also say that he gave name to the city of Barcelona and the Columns of Heracles are still present in the Spanish Crest of Arms.
Still, most of the known Iberian mythology is like: “here supposedly be a rock where something happened according to other people.”
A myth/legend/weird history thing worth mentioning though is Tartessos:
TARTESSOS
Tartessos is, crudely said, the Iberian Atlantis. Although to be fair Atlantis was probably made up by Plato but Tartessos has been definitively proven to have been real in the recent research. The problem is that nobody knows where the heck it was.
Supposedly it was a great coastline civilization miles ahead of its surrounding regions and of their time, with a rich culture and technology, that just disappeared without leaving any trace. It’s fall is mostly consistent with the fall of Phoenicia, around the Vth century BC.
Some theories say that Tartessos had been wiped out by a Tsunami, since its a region of heavy seismic activity, others that it just died out with the end of the Phoenician commerce or that the surrounding cultures caught up and they stopped being special, thus just mixing around and disappearing.
In any case, it’s a mystery!
THE CELTIC NORTH-WEST
Their legends and mythology are far clearer, more documented, and survive to this day. However, I don’t think I can surprise you with any of them because (according to my tour guide in Santiago) most of them can be found in other regions of Celtic descend, specially in Ireland.
Of the most “recent” (middle ages) The Holy Procession (the procession of the dead dressed in white that you can find walking around at midnight) comes to mind, also the meigas, sort of witches, and bruixas, their nice, cool equivalent that people liked.
St. JAMES THE MOOR-SLAYER
Tumblr media
This is an individual legend but it’s very important. So, in Galicia they say rest the bones of the Apostle St. James (Santiago), which turned it into the hotspot for pilgrimage, specially after the Muslims in the east cut the christian pilgrimage routes to Jerusalem and started killing the pilgrims. So like, the next best option, and way safer, was the restplace of St. James, crossing the territories of the Catholic Kingdoms of Hispania.
PS: Leaving aside the fascinating legend of how his rests got there (it involves a stone boat, a couple of bulls and a truckload of scallops), the first touristic-guide in the world is believed to be a guide to the way of St. James, the Codex Calixtinus, written around the year 1135.
According to the Legend, the Asturian King Ramiro I was visited by the Apostle Santiago clad in battle wear the night before a big battle with the moors, and the next day, at the battlecry of “Santiago!” the troops of Ramiro won a seemingly impossible battle. From then on and through the centuries variations of “For Spain and for Santiago!” (Santiago and charge, Spain!, For Santiago and the Spains!, etc…) became the official cry of the Spanish Army and the apostle Santiago is the patron Saint of Spain.
PS: Around the same period we also find a lot of legends and lore related to the Templars and the military orders of the Peninsula (Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, Montesa in Spain and Avis in Portugal)
THE LOVERS OF TERUEL
Tumblr media
Sometimes called “the Spanish Romeo & Juliet” it’s in my opinion a way better story, not only it has been proven to have elements of truth in it, but because nobody is fucking 13!
Funnily enough for a short while this legend had been accused of being a copy of one included in the Decameron of Boccaccio until it had been discovered that the first instances of it date back to a whole century before the Decameron was written, so it may have been actually the other way ‘round.
Anyway, the events were supposed to have happened in the city of Teruel in the year 1217. A young boy Diego (sometimes called Juan) of the Marcilla family and the girl Isabel of the Segura family, grew up playing together and when their teenage hormones hit hard, fell in love.
However, even though the Marcilla family was important, it was not as important as the Segura family and Diego was the second son, meant to inherit nothing. There was no way he could marry the only daughter and heiress of the Segura family. So he struck a deal with her father: he’d go to war (meaning la Reconquista) fight hard, rise in rank and earn a world of wealth in five years. If in that time he returned rich, he’d marry Isabel.
So he left. Passed some years, Isabel’s father started insisting in her to get married but, and here comes my favorite part, she refused on the premise that she had to remain a maiden until 20, because no woman should get married before she learned how to manage a household. And her father, as any good middle-ages dad, that loved and respected his daughter, agreed with her.
However, when the five years passed and Diego didn’t return, Isabel believed him dead and agreed to marry Don Pedro of Azagra. However, right after the ceremony, Diego returned with great riches! Too late tho. His beloved was already married.
So he sneaked up into her and her husband’s bedroom at night and asked her for a kiss: “kiss me, for I’m dying!”. She refused on the terms that she would not be unfaithful to her husband, he asked her again and she refused again.
So Diego just dropped dead of heartache.
Isabel woke up her husband and told him what happened. He was like “but why didn’t you kiss him?!” so she told him she hadn’t wanted to betray her husband, so he was “you truly are a woman worth of praise.”
They sneaked him out of their home in the middle of the night and left him in a local church, so the husband wouldn’t get blamed for his death.
The next day the funeral ceremony took place and Isabel came, dressed in her wedding gown, and leaning over Diego’s body gave him the kiss that she had refused him in life.
And then she also fell dead.
The husband then told everyone in the church their story and the town agreed to bury them together, so at least in death they would be side by side.
Their inexplicably mummified bodies were discovered in 1555 during repair works at the San Pedro church, in Teruel, next to a document dating to the formerly stated year, corroborating the popular legend.
Since with time the fame of this story spread around Spain. The mummies now lay in a chapel and in marble tombs with exquisitely sculpted lids by the artist Juan de Ávalos y Taborda.

Sorry for not being able to tell any better stories, and this probably doesn’t answer your question, but I just thought it better not to talk too much on stuff I didn’t know about and focus on what I did.

“10 Songs” Meme
Aqui vão as músicas.
Since there’s this meme/quiz about “10 songs you’re really into right now” rolling around here on Tumblr, I’ll just take some advantage of the fact that there’s no one home, and turn my speakers on. Here come the songs, despite the numerical order, it doesn’t mean that I see some of this songs as better than the others. (There’s a translation in English below!)
1. A trilha sonora da série de videogames The Legend of Zelda.
3. Old Friends/Bookends, de Simon & Garfunkel.
4. Compared to What, de Roberta Flack. Esta música é crítica, inteligente, ácida, a cara da Guerra Fria, e a melhor coisa sobre o reboot de The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
5. The Door Into Summer, dos americanos The Monkees.
6. You & Me, do duo japonês Saki & Rie Fu. :)
7. Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me), de Steve Harley & The Cockney Rebel. :)
8. Until The End of Time, da banda cigana DeVotchKa.
9. Stay With Me Baby, da diva do soul Lorraine Ellison.
10. Wish You Were Here, do Pink Floyd.
1. The Legend of Zelda’s OST. Everything about Zelda is just amazing; the brain-challenging puzzles, the storylines, the expanded universe, the mangás, the characters, the impeccable visual (Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy aren’t the only stunningly beautiful games in the universe, you know!). On the 25th and 30th birthdays of the series, Nintendo has release the soundtracks in orchestrated versions. So, I put this link here because this medley includes a sneak peek into Spirit Tracks, and the theme of Majora’s Mask’s Clock Town, which are between my favourite themes in the whole series.
2. 14 Bis’s Planeta Sonho (Português for Dream Planet). 14 Bis is the name of the first Brazilian plane that ever flew, and also, the grace of a band from the late 1970s - early 1980s, from the musical scene of Minas Gerais. They make a prudent use of synthesizers and some other things from progressive rock and new wave, and extensive use of amazing vocal harmonies, stunning lyrics, and simple guitar harmonies. I knew their musics when I was 13, and I can guarantee to anyone curious about them: your body and soul can meditate to them, and they’ll make your day better!
3. Simon & Garfunkel’s Old Friends/ Bookends. I’ll let them competing with 14 Bis for the place I’ll reserve in my heart for my favourite band (~hahaha). I could go remembering their songs for hours on end, but I’ll put this here, because it helped me to write a fanfic for Fullmetal Alchemist.
4. Roberta Flack’s Compared to What. This song is smart, witty, critic, the perfect portrait of the Cold War, and the best thing ever about The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’s reboot movie.
5. The Monkees’s The Door Into Summer. A very sweet fellow fan here in Tumblr introduced me to the band and the TV series. Since it would be impossible to choose a single favourite song from them I went with one of my favourite album. Also, it features my favourite band member singing lead,(Mike Nesmith is my muse!), and I saw this music happening in some people’s lifes, in a certain way. (I can make a list of my favourite Monkees’ songs anyday, though!)
6. You & Me, by the Japanese duo Saki & Rie Fu. It’s the opening theme of one of my favourite animes, Shirokuma Café. Also brings a nice, soothing feeling of spring, picnics… and a chorus that sticks to your brain like bubble-gum! :)
7. Steve Harley and The Cockney Rebel’s Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me). It’s a nice souvenir to the delightful and smart comedy The Full Monty, and everything about this song is soothing and relaxing to me: the feeling à la 1970s, the acoustic guitars, the synthesizers, and even Steven Harley’s accent. :)
8. Until The End of Time, by DeVotchKa. Theme-song for the movie Litle Miss Sunshine. It has sweet, endearing lyrics, beautiful harmonies of guitar and violin, and the simple, yet intimate feeling, typical from good, genuine folk music.
9. Stay With Me Baby, by the diva of soul, Lorraine Ellison. I was brought to this beautiful piece by the tons of good covers (like Chris Cornell, Whitesnake and Janis Joplin’s), that, however, can’t compare with the original version. Bless Frank Sinatra, by getting late to the studio, and making his band available to the recording of this classic.
10. Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here. Anxiety, solitude, the longing for a missing friendship, the beautiful lyrics and harmonies… Everything about this song is precious, and there aren’t enough words in the universe to describe it.

Well now I want to know how Ghost and Mace met. 😂 I'm sure Cap'n is too.
From what others I've read, Ghost is very closed off. So if he let's you in, then that's a good thing. So maybe during a mission Mace saves his butt from being injured and/or worse. Ghost knows his team members will have his back, always. But to actually have someone shove him out of the way and almost die in the process? 'Course it pisses him off (paperwork and all that), he can't help but feel a smidge emotional. And he feels bad that he didn't trust them since day one.
So now any time he's working with you, he chooses to be paired with you. And no one fights him on it.
Oh yeah... Ghost has a very dark past and has been hurt and betrayed by people he trusted several times, so it's hard for him to actually let someone in.
I had a few ideas about how Mace and Ghost met, and it involves Mace, Mexico and a big ass nasty scar in their belly.
Ghost, more than feeling bad about not trusting Mace, probably feels like he 'ows them' now. This is how it works: you save Ghost, you're an ally now, and you're under his protection. He will pay his debt by making sure that Mace doesn't die on a mission.
And I will write about this soon, because it was soooo fun to write about these cod characters! Might have to read a bit to get a hang of Soap's Scottish vocab bc I don't know anything about it hahah
I will tag you once I write how Mace and Ghost met (will probably happen tomorrow but we'll see) ❤️

Got one. Reader has worked with Ghost in the past on missions. So when they see each other for a mission, Price is wary of them. That is, until Ghost is like "they're good Captain. I didn't trust a lot back in the day, but I trusted them. Still do." Which catches Price by surprise. By the end of the mission, Price is smitten by their badassery on the battlefield. Even tells them "I can see why Ghost trusts you. You do a damn good job."
Could also have reader pick up on his little crush and just tease him relentlessly about it. 😂 I mean, if you want to.
HONEY, I LOVED THIS SO MUCH THAT I WROTE IT RIGHT AWAY-
I wrote it gender neutral, as you were talking about 'them', wanted to keep it that way.
Here's the link!
Hope you like it, even though it's my first time writing for this character!

Dear lovely people,
I've seen a lot of people doing "sleepover parties" when they reach a certain follower milestone.
Can someone explain me what it is? Because we're reaching 1.4k followers soon and that calls for a celebration!
Thanks to you all, loves. It means a lot ❤️

Alright babies, send me requests. I need to work on other stuff that it's not the two ongoing series hahaha
Here are some prompt lists:
Here's one and two.
EDIT: PROMPT #11 - yelling at them because they thought they'd lose them CANNOT BE SEND ANYMORE. THANK YOU
Choose the prompt you like and send it! Remember, though. I don't do character x character nor explicit smut.
You can ask for any member of the Daggers, Ice, Mav and Goose!
