STOP STOP EVERYRHING
i do not know if this has been said but i am going to say it bc fuck it almost knocked me off my feet when i thought of it
merlin waiting patiently for arthur for YEARS. mourning him for longer than he knew him. watching everyone he knew in camelot die and himself not age a day. watching the stone of the castle begin to crack, the wood begin to rot, the streets begin to empty. camelot has fallen. he ventures out but not far in case arthur returns. he experiences decades pass by him in a flash, still nothing. humanity advances and advances, yet they are also their undoing. they build themselves up just to tear themselves down a moment later. years and years and years and years and years pass, still nothing. the great dragons words echo in his head and he holds them close in hope, arthur will rise again. a day in spring, merlin catches a whiff of something he can’t place but he’s hit with a wave of nostalgia. it’s not until he’s lying in bed later that day that he remembers it’s what arthur used to smell like. not long after that, he tries to recall arthur’s laugh, but the memory is mute. and fuzzy. why is it fuzzy? stop focusing on the laugh and focus on his face…what did he look like again? oh god. no focus on something small. his eye color. what color were his eyes? blue…right? or were they green?
merlin forgetting the pieces of the puzzle that make up arthur, he can’t remember what he smelled like, what he looked like, what his laugh sounded like, he can’t even recall the way he screamed his name everyday when he needed something. merlin’s loosing arthur again. how long has it been? too long, too long and arthur still isn’t back. the dragon said he’d be back. he remembers that. he’s been repeating the words in his head since they were spoken to him long ago. every morning when he woke, every night before he slept, whenever the world around him seemed out to get him. he’s coming back. arthur’s coming back. why isn’t he back? what had that damn dragon said? he always talked in riddles but merlin had thought his words were clear for the first time since he’d known him. what had he said?
when albion’s need is greatest, arthur will rise again.
he’ll rise again. arthur will be back. and they’ll fight a great evil like they used to, side by side, two sides of the same coin, arthur and merlin together at last. he just has to wait for such a great evil. a great evil that would constitute arthur’s return. merlin’s lived many, many years. he’s seen much evil. arthur never returned then. something bigger and badder then. something worse that anything he could imagine…would it be immoral to instigate the evil to come to pass? (merlin’s tries to recall arthur’s secret smile when merlin made a face at him across the room or whispered something in his ear when visiting noble and royals were acting like fools and comes up empty.) to hell with morals. to hell with the damn dragon. to hell with it all. merlin’s been alive for centuries. arthur’s been asleep for centuries. they’ve been waiting for each other for centuries. merlin’s sick of it. to hell with it all. arthur needs a great evil? he’ll give him a great evil.

Even in an "everything's fine and nothing hurts" AU, I just know that Arthur "Disaster Bi" Pendragon manages to give his dad an ulcer because that's just how he rolls.
Arthur: Father, I'm getting married-
Uther: Excellent!
Arthur: -to Merlin of the Dragonlords.
Uther: Less excellent!
Somewhere on the Isle of the Blessed, Morgana is laughing and doesn't know why.
And Balinor is working his way through the wine cellar realising he's about to be kin-by-marriage to Uther Fucking Pendragon. (Yes, they still hate each other, but their wives are besties. They think it's adorable.)
the horror Balinor must have felt when he realised what Merlin marrying Arthur meant for him lmaoooooo
Hunith: Aren't they cute! Balinor: Yes, sweetie, very adorable. Can't wait for the wedd- Balinor: WAIT

Y’know that one scene in A Servant of Two Masters where Merlin tells Leon he’s off to kill the king and Leon just laughs
What if Merlin realises how much power that actually has and just starts telling Leon the truth instead of coming up with excuses
Like
Leon: Hey Merlin, where are you off to?
Merlin: Just going to fight a gryphon!
Leon: ha! Have fun!
Or
Leon: Merlin, why do you have highly illegal poison?
Merlin: it’s only poison mixed with alcohol, otherwise it’s just great sidhe repellent!
Leon, chuckling fondly: Alright, as you were then.
Or
Leon: Merlin! Where were you?
Merlin: nowhere interesting, just practicing sorcery.
And Leon believes he’s just keeping the gag going every time.
Which also makes the poetry scene so much better because Leon is used to Merlin being funny, never giving proper excuses and joking about high treason crimes.
So when Merlin is so flustered that he blurts out poetry, the only possible explanation can be that something Merthur is happening and Leon wants no part in it.
It also got me thinking about post Camlan when Merlin and Arthur get back to Camelot (I’m in denial, shut up) when Leon finds out Merlin has magic.
He waits at the gates for Merlin with his arms folded looking like a disappointed mother, then Merlin stops and realises every one of his “excuses” came back to bite him in the arse.
Until Leon has to explain to Arthur that he’s known Merlin is a sorcerer for a while now, but always thought it was a joke because “it’s Merlin”
Merlin: in my defence, I never lied.
Leon: you confessed to multiple crimes!
Merlin: you let me get away with them!
Arthur: huh?
Leon: Sire, I can explain.
Merlin: can you?
Leon: can you?!
I’m tempted to turn this into a fanfic if anyone would want to read it
It’s out now on Ao3 - The One Where Leon Knowingly and Unknowingly Becomes an Accomplice to Treason

Arthur wrenched his sword out of the skeletal soldier in front of him. It, like all the others, fell to pieces immediately. The king whirled away, blade flashing in the gloom as he swung at another undead attacker. In the last few days, they’d become very aware that it would take at least a minute for the wretched things to re-assemble themselves, and he had more pressing issues.
“We’ve already done an undead army.” Gwaine was at his back suddenly, parrying a blow from yet another moldering skeleton as he complained. Sweat gleamed from his brow, and something dark that might have been blood was smeared on his forehead, but he was smiling fiercely. “Have you considered laws on mandatory cremation? I know, I know, the Christians wouldn’t like it, but this is getting tedious.”

building on my idea that merlin takes on the name ambrose pendragon after arthur’s death, like imagine it’s 50 years later.
everyone from camelot is dead. the anglo-saxons have won, historical conquests of britain are continuing on as they did and here remains merlin, previously known as emrys, neither name really a surname and the latter always more of a title, but both representative of a world that no longer exists, a kingdom that has fallen apart, a servant with no master, a half without that which makes it whole.
so maybe merlin leaves. he explores. first he travels the isle and perhaps when people ask him who he is he defaults to an ancient practice. people, you see, have often been known by what they do or who they serve or where they come from. for a while, for the decades that pass wherein people remember the rule of the pendragons and the great kingdom of camelot and the failed prophecies of albion, he is not Merlin of Ealdor but Merlin of Camelot.
but people die. memories fade. time passes. merlin remains. and after a while, he cannot call himself Merlin of Camelot. not only do people forget his old kingdom, they forget his name, they bring along new languages and then around 300 years after arthur’s death, a collection of stories begin to be written, about magic, about merlin, about—
Arthur.
people you see, have often been defined by what they do or who they serve or where they come from. when the stories of arthur begin to be told anew, and remain with merlin through the tide of centuries, merlin resolves to forge a new name. he devises first the name in the style of a servant or of some of the common folk.
Merlin of Pendragon.
merlin toys with that idea, wears it for a few decades but something in those words rings false, sounds wrong, and unsettles his blood, as if he lays claim to a dynasty that shall never be his and will never rise again. when he uses it, people laugh and think him an uneducated fool playing at legend. it feels trite and awkward and wrong.
Merlin Pendragon sounds better, more forgivable if not entirely presentable. It makes merlin sound like he is a Pendragon, but only one sorcerer has ever laid claim to the Pendragon name and her name had not been merlin. (it makes merlin a Pendragon, and not even when Arthur lived had merlin considered such a fate a possibility, that Arthur could ever consider—)
merlin continues thinking, and by the time he settles on a replacement it is out of obligation and urgency. he cannot be nameless while he works as a healer and travels the world and serves other people as best as he can. he cannot be merlin Pendragon if the only man who could have conferred that name to him is dead.
instead he becomes Emrys Pendragon, and for a while, that name becomes a second skin. but like the serpent he has always been, merlin eventually sheds that skin. centuries have passed and those who once bore the name emrys, the last descendants of the druids and the people of Camelot, now only recognize that name in legend. the name once more marks him as stupid fool in love with the romantic notion of chivalry. besides, the languages have shifted and a name that once rolled off the tongue has become clotted and stuck in the mouths of people. no one can say it as it had once been said nor as it once belonged by arthur’s side, if only in secret.
merlin again returns to the drawing board, and luckily by that time he is aware of the translations of his many names. on a visit to rome, the grand imperial capital Arthur once dreamt of seeing as a young man, merlin thinks of a perfect substitute. His final name.
Ambrose.
Ambrose Pendragon.
it is emrys, but not quite.
it is merlin as he is forced to live without Arthur.
it is what Arthur could have been if he had lived at merlin’s side.
it is, written shorter, A. Pendragon.
it is a simple name. it is a stupid name. it is a name that breaks his heart and reminds him of his failings and keeps the faith alive within him.
years after adopting the name, merlin wakes up and walks to his desk and sees the name written on the outside of an envelope and he imagines it’s a letter from arthur.
a thousand years later, he sees it written on the sides of coffee cups and envelopes, monogrammed on his coats and cufflinks, inked on his essays, emblazoned on the side of his shop, and merlin imagines that when Arthur returns, he will return to a world already familiar with an A. Pendragon.
It shall be a welcoming world, as if across all these centuries, by some miracle, Arthur Pendragon had lived all along.

What I find funny in magic reveal fics is that Arthur almost always assumes Merlin is capable of strong magic.
No matter how magic was revealed, Arthur instantly brings up previous powerful magic occurrences.
Is it because he knows nothing about magic, therefore doesn't understands how powerful sorcerer must be to perform what he thinks Merlin's done? Does he thinks every magic user can do it?
OR he instantly thinks «If my Merlin is sorcerer he must be a great one.»
It doesn't even matter if he thinks Merlin betrayed him or not.
Merlin's been fooling me all this time and actually wants me dead? He's smart powerful sorcerer and I'm an idiot! Merlin is still a good person despite the magic? Of course he's great at it! Remember *insert any insanely powerful canon thing*? It was him, wasn't it?

All I want in my merthur is Arthur to trust Merlin to toxic lengths and Merlin to never, ever misuse that trust. I want Arthur to be slapped with one hundred evidences against Merlin but not believe in Merlin’s fault because Merlin said he didn’t do it, and he actually didn’t. I want Arthur to not know but know about Merlin’s magic, and Merlin to know that Arthur knows but doesn’t know because he cannot know because Uther is the king. I want Arthur to have absolute faith at all times in Merlin, that Merlin is able to save him and his kingdom, and Merlin being unsure of himself, but never giving up, because he knows that Arthur trusts him, even if he cannot say it, because he doesn’t know, but knows, and Merlin cannot let him down.
I want everyone around them to see how they constantly bicker and banter and have that thought that they hate one another, that they think each other stupid, but at the same time to know not to come between them, because you’ll be lost if you take Arthur away from Merlin, or Merlin away from Arthur. I want the nobles to think that Merlin is stupid and incompetent but treat him with kindness because they are scared of what Arthur will do to them if they dare disrespecting Merlin. I want bitter sorcerers once in the while come in with the plan to finish Arthur, but back away, because they recognise Emrys, the greatness of his power, and they are too afraid of what he would do to them if they attempted to hurt his king.
I also want Arthur to be badass, and Merlin to have trust in Arthur’s badassery. I want Arthur to actually be the greatest king to ever live, not just some vaguely okay king with good intentions and pure heart, and I want Merlin to actually be the saviour of magic, not a cute twink manipulated by bitter dragon and a little corrupted physician. I want Arthur to actually be that skilled knight he always claims to be, not a one who can be defeated by that one random blonde sorceress with little to no effort, I want Merlin to actually know something about magic except for how to use it, not to being forced to run between Gaius and the dragon and Freya and Catha and the druids to find everything out.
I want them to be so epic and so unhealthy (but it's okay because they are that way only about each other and Arthur would never break Merlin’s faith and Merlin would never break Arthur’s trust) and so skilled (I'm still thinking about that one secret room full of magical books that was introduced in the episode with the goblin and then never brought up again- like why was Merlin not getting any education. like I mean, the spells are important part of magic, but there’s other stuff, too, that Merlin should know. Merlin should have received the same education Morgana did. like, Morgause had Morgana for a year and Gaius had Merlin for ten. why is that twink so confused. and we all know how eager Merlin is to learn magic stuff. Gaius had completely failed him) and I want Arthur to be a fucking high king and I want Merlin to be his court sorcerer and consort and most trusted advisor at the same time.

An AU where Merlin is literally a God in Mordred’s eyes. Like, a genuine God.
In this AU Mordred and Merlin’s relationship is not fucked up by prophecy. So, everytime, kindhearted Merlin saved Mordred without hesitation. And Mordred grew up in a Druid camp that reinforced the idea that Emrys was a literal god. So naturally, HE WORSHIPPED MERLIN.
Once Arthur became king and magic was legalised, Mordred came to Camelot to become a knight because that was the best way to serve Emrys.
But when he arrived at Camelot, he struggled to comprehend the fact that Merlin was… human???? A very clumsy one, in fact. The rest of Camelot, though might know about Merlin magic, did not know how great ‘Emrys’ actually was so they were just confused, concerned, and/or entertained by Mordred’s ‘crush’ on Merlin.
He would stare at Merlin the entire first meal they had together, and people would be like: awww, Sir Mordred is crushing on Merlin so hard!!
Mordred: Emrys??eats??food?Food??Is ?eaten?by? Emrys?emrys?consumes?meal????
Or when he saw Merlin tripped on the training field
Mordred: i think the area is cursed. Strongly cursed.
Leon: what—
Mordred: THEN WHY ELSE WOULD EMRYS TRIPPED?????
Arthur: So, how have you adjusted to life in Camelot so far? Is there anything that is bothering yo—
Mordred: Merlin
Arthur: what did my stupid manserva- I mean Court Sorcerer do-
Mordred: I saw him drank water today
Arthur:
Mordred: He just drinks water????? From glass?????? Like?? He drank?? Water???? You know??? Literal water????????????? For drinking???HE??needs??water?to??live?why??
Morgana: why did I saw Mordred ran out of the meeting room screaming that you guys are trying to ‘Destroy his faith in his religion’. You knights better not bully him because he is a druid and has magic—
Gwaine: I told him Merlin is not here because he needs to take a shit.
Lancelot: Hey, Mordred, I noticed that Merlin has not received the note I asked you to deliver to him yet.
Mordred: But I already send it to him?
Lancelot:
Lancelot: Tell me how
Mordred: I burned it at the altar
Lancelot: what altar—
Mordred: and pray to him, as one should???
Merlin: WHY IS THERE SOMEONE SCREAMING IN MY HEAD THAT I HAVE AN IMPORTANT MEETING TOMORROW AT NOON!?
Or when they went on a long mission or hunting and Merlin, out of his old habit, made food for the knights
Mordred: ‘this is the most excellent food ever had bestowed on me, I shall never forget about this Emrys. I will pray to you even harder. I am the luckiest Druid to ever live—- ‘
Percival: … is the stew that good?

You know what I wish we'd seen?
More positive actively involved magic users.
Like, we know the Druids support Emrys, though they seem more like a pacifist, non-combatant party (aside from some outliers like Kara, Mordred, Alvarr), and other magic users/beings like Anhora, Grettir, Mab, they all seem to be neutral. They acknowledge Emrys as a superior power, but they don't seem to actively participate for better or worse. And all other sorcerers are usually antagonistic. But why can't we have the other side? I'm sure there has to be some who decide to take Merlin's side. Maybe they don't entirely trust Arthur, maybe they aren't too certain of a Pendragon, but dude, it's fucking Emrys. If Emrys is supporting him, there's gotta be something to him, right?
Let Merlin have people helping him, other sorcerers who slip him spells that are too powerful for them, maybe he can do something with it, passing him information about plots they've heard through the sorcerers' grapevine, even helping him thwart some of the ambushes and traps. Maybe they aren't brave enough to live in Camelot 24/7 like Merlin, but they take turns bringing him messages and supplies, and to get their "marching orders," such as they are.
Also, imagine the look on Arthur's face when he finds out he has a magic Praetorian Guard that answers to his manservant.
yeah see, that's one of the big issues that's always bothered me. like we (the audience) are told that magic is not evil but rather is something as integral as nature. but more often than not, a lot of the antagonist we meet are magic users and most of the time they are power hungry people. i mean, i totally understand the sorcerers who seek out revenge for Uther and by proxy Camelot, but we only either get these types of sorcerers or the sorcerers whom the show portrays as only evil.
it is, frankly, impossible for the magic community to be full of only evil and vengeful sorcerers. there's got to be more diversity than that, bbc 🙄 you're telling me that there are no somewhat powerful magic users living in Albion helping others anyway they can and don't seek to help aid Merlin in anyway. and i mean aid him since s1. by s5 it looked like he was actually getting some help, but they were still sorcerers who fell a little bit in the gray area or just never interacted with anyone other than Merlin.
maybe have Lancelot befriend another sorcerer while he was away from Camelot and sort of sneak him in to help save the kingdom from Morgana and Morgause in s3. maybe Elyan, who had left Camelot pre-s1, have some magic friends that we meet in s4.
tbh, my big issue is that with how much the show tells us, the audience, that magic does have positive impacts and isn't evil, none of the characters besides Gaius, Merlin, and Lancelot actually know that (as far as i'm aware). literally any time Arthur considers that maybe magic isn't what his father claimed it to be, he ends up going back to those prejudices and ideas Uther propagated because "magic killed my father," "magic killed my mother" (still super salty), "magic corrupted morgana," "magic wants me dead." when in reality, that's far from the truth, and Merlin then has to continue to hide a part of himself from people he cares for and loves dearly because all they've ever known and seen is "evil magic people."
just....bbc, explain to me how Arthur was supposed to bring the so-called "Golden Age" to Albion where there's peace between magic users and non-magic users alike if he, himself, believed magic was inherently evil???? how is Arthur the Once and Future King if he never repealed the ban on magic or began working with sorcerers? and i'm saying this as someone who loves the character, but why did we, the audience, not get a chance to really see Arthur break away from his father's prejudices on magic until the series finale?
it just bugs me. there are so many moments where it looks like maybe Merlin has an ally that's pro-magic and pro-unity and wants to help fulfill the prophecy, but then they either become one-time side characters or fucking die. never seen or heard from again. maybe i just want a character or two to stick and maybe give Merlin the support group he needs?
por favor, bbc

My new favorite Merlin AU is that Merlin finally confesses to Arthur about his magic, but Merlin is too flustered to think straight and there’s some miscommunication.
What Merlin says: I have magic 😔
What Merlin thinks he said: I am a powerful sorcerer and I use my magic every day to protect you and all of Camelot. We are two sides of the same coin, our destinies forever intertwined. Spare me and I will help you become the once and future king.
What Arthur hears: I know a few cantrips. Please don’t kill me.
So Arthur eventually comes to terms with Merlin knowing some magic and things kinda go back to normal except Merlin starts using minor spells in front of Arthur to speed up chores.
But then while Arthur is working to legalize magic (because of course he would) and make reparations to magic users, he asks Merlin to accompany him to a meeting with the Druids. Arthur asks the Druids to nominate a court sorcerer and they just look at him confused like
Druids: why not ask the great sorcerer Emrys?
Arthur: ok where do I find him?
Druids: points to Merlin sitting 1 foot away
Arthur: why did you hide this vital information from me!?
Merlin: … I did tell you, didn’t I? Whoops
Bonus
Arthur: Gwen! Knights! Merlin is the most powerful sorcerer to ever live! Can you believe it?
Everyone … yeah. We saw him shooting Lightning while riding a dragon just last week.
Arthur:🫨…😐

I cant help but cry over how extra lonely merlin was when it came to his magic. Everyone always spoke about how lonely and awful it was to have to hide your magic, for sorcerers and druids in places like camelot and how isolating it was.
But at the end of the day they could somewhat always find others like them. They could escape to druid camps and be with people like them or find others hidden in the shadows.
But merlin couldnt. Sure he found other people that could do magic. But they always had him on this platform, emrys this emrys that, he was always the great emrys who had this big destiny and was the greatest sorcerer.
Never just merlin who could do magic. He never really got that equal companionship and relief of having someone the same as him around because the other person always saw emrys, this important person for the world, and never just 20 year old merlin who knew magic and wanted to help his friends.

In "To kill a king"
Gwen's father, Tom, consorting with Tauren.
Tom: (exclaims, after Tauren turned lead into gold with the mage stone) Gold!
Tauren: (smiles evily) Pure priceless gold. Yours, blacksmith, if you keep your mouth shut.
Tom: I don't think that's going to be possible.
Tauren: (confused) What?
Arthur: (Enters with guards suddenly) Seize him!
Tauren: (Tries to scape, but he trips and is quickly surrounded. He turns to Tom, furious) You! You set me a trap!
Arthur: It was me actually. (turns to Tom) Well done, Tom.
Tom: Anytime, sire.
Tauren: (yells while he's taken outside) You'll pay for this! All of you! (is taken away by the guards)
Arthur: Tom, you put yourself at great risk by agreing to participate in this ambush. Your service to the crown won't go unrewarded.
Tom: (bows, grateful) Being of service to you is enough reward for me, sire.
Gwen: (enters, crying) Dad! (goes to hug him)
Tom: Gwen! (hugs her inmediatly) What are you doing here? I told you not to come! It's dangerous!
Gwen: And you expected me to just wait until you came back of your suicidal mission?! If something had happenened to you I couldn't bare it.
Arthur: (smiles, glad he could save Gwen the pain of losing her father) You didn't come alone, did you? (calls out) Merlin!
Merlin: (comes out of his hidden place and goes to Arthur, smiling not at all guilty) Someone had to have your back. (thinking) And make sure Tauren didn't scape.
Arthur: (perfectly knowing it was Merlin who made Tauren trip) As if you could. (calls out again) Lancelot?
Lancelot: (comes out of his hidden place and aproaches too) Someone had to look after them. (pointing at Gwen and Merlin).
Arthur: (sighs again and calls out again) Morgana?
Morgana: (comes out of her hidden place and aproaches too, in anger) You put my friend's father in danger and you expect me not to make sure you didn't get him killed?
Arthur: I know you weren't fond of this plan, but there was no other way to capture Tauren. And look, everything turn out alright.
Morgana: And now Gwen and her father are in the crosshairs of a whole group of renegade sorcerers!
Arthur: The king agreed put guards at their house, they won't be unprotected.
Morgana: They wouldn't need protection if you hadn't involved them in the first place!
Gwen: My lady, (puts a hand on her arm) it's fine. We knew what we were getting into and you know I'm not defenseless. I know how to use a sword.
Morgana: (calms down and smiles at her) You sure do. (turns to Arthur) You better put the best guards at their disposal.
Arthur: They already have one. (turns to Lancelot) Will you protect them?
Lancelot: With my life!
Gwen: (blushes at Lancelot devotion and smiles)
Merlin: Arthur, (gives him the mage stone he just picked up) Tauren dropped this.
Tom: Is what the sorcerer used to turn lead into gold.
Arthur: (serious) They're going to come after this.
Time skip. In the dungeons. Morgana goes to Tauren's cell.
Tauren: The king's ward. (laughs dryly) What brings you here? Do you rejoice in our misery too?
Morgana: (gets close) I don't rejoice in anyone's misery. Even yours, that almost got an innocent man killed.
Tauren: So you're here to lecture me?
Morgana: (gets closer and whispers) Allies can appear in unexpected places (puts a key in his hand). Good luck. (leaves)
Tauren: (very confused, but smirks to himself)
Time skip. Tauren scapes from the dungeons and is running away being followed by knights. Morgana appears dressed in a cape riding a horse, picks him up and they flee together. Once they left the knights behind they make a stop in the woods.
Tauren: (gets off the horse, suspicious) Why are you helping me? Is this a trap?
Morgana: If it was, it would be a very poor one. (gets off the horse too) Look, I'm not delighted to see you either, but I needed to scape from Uther and you're the best option I have.
Tauren: But you're his ward.
Morgana: (raises her voice, suddenly scared) I won't be when he finds out what I am!
Tauren: (realises, surprised) You're a sorceress.
Morgana: (nods, shy and her eyes water) I didn't want too, I didn't choose this! But I keep having these visions in my dreams and hearing voices in my head. I didn't want to believe it but then a made some vase explode with my mind and I... (she trembles and cries) I don't want to be a mosnter! I don't want to die!
Tauren: (puts a hand in her shoulder, gently) Magic is not something you should fear, my dear. Is a gift, you're special. The only monster here is the murderer the calls himself king.
Morgana: (snifs) I know. (sadness turns into fury) For years I've seen him kill thousands of innocents while I could only watch. But I don't want to be useless anymore. I want to fight.
Tauren: (still a little distrustful) How can I be sure you're really on our side?
Morgana: (pulls the magic stone out of her pocket and gives it to him) Do you believe me now?
So Tauren brings morgana to his hidden place with all his followers. She intruduces herself, explains her situation and they accept her. With the king's ward now on their side, now they can plan their next move.
Morgana: I really don't want to come back.
Tauren: It's for the best. It won't be long before Uther sends search parties after you. Don't worry. You won't have to suffer his tirany anymore if everything goes as planned.
Morgana: WHEN averything goes as planned. (she smiles and kisses his cheek) Thank you. For accepting me. (gets on her horse) Goodbye.
Tauren whatches Morgana in awe before going back to his camp. He smiles triunfanly. Tomorrow Uther will finally die.
Time skip. Morgana makes a stop in the woods and meets Arthur, Merlin and group of knights.
Arthur: (greets Morgana) Did they fall for it?
Morgana: (smiling) It was easy as cake.
Flashback
Arthur, Uther and Morgana in a room, planning strategies.
Uther: It's very risky.
Arthur: I know. But it's the only way.
Uther: We could wait for them to attack Tom's place to captured them. If they're really going after the stone-
Arthur: But they won't send all of them. Especially with their leader captured. With this plan we can finally find all of them and kill them once and for all.
Uther: (smiles, proudly) You're right. So, who are you going to assign this important task to?
Arthur: I'm still working on it.
Uther: A servant perhaps?
Arthur: No, Tauren is no fool. He knows a servant can be easily hired or ordered to do stuff. He'll know it's a trap for sure.
Morgana: And if it was someone who is nobelty? Someone that can't be paid or order to do stuff because they're too close to the king? Someone like his ward?
Arthur: (concerned) Morgana...
Morgana: (determined) I can do it.
Uther: Absolutly not. It's dangerous!
Morgana: I know how to fight! If I can convince him that I'm on his side-
Uther: (raises his voice, sternly) No, Morgana. End of discussion.
Morgana: (leaves enraged)
Arthur: (sighs as he watches her leave and turns to his father) I'll talk to her later. Make her see sense.
Uther: Good luck with that.
Time skip. In Morgana's chambers. Morgana is siting on her bed and Arthur knocks the door.
Arthur: (opens the door slightly) Can I come in?
Morgana: As if you have to ask.
Arthur: (enters) He only worries about you, you know? I do too.
Morgana: I'm not helpless. For once I'm trying to help. I'm trying to support his absurd cause and he doesn't let me.
Arthur: (sits next to her) You don't really support him though. You don't support any of this.
Morgana: There's a reason Tauren and his men got to this point. Uther started this by killing all sorcerers indiscriminately. He brought this on himself!
Arthur: I know. I don't share his ideas on sorcerers either.
Morgana: (in disbelief) Really?
Arthur: Yes!
Morgana: And yet you're organising this slaughter.
Arthur: Because these sorcerers did do harm. It doesn't matter that my father wronged them first. They must to be stopped.
Morgana: Because they are evil sorcerers?
Arthur: No, just because they're evil. Nothing more.
Morgana: (softens her expression, a bit hopeful) You really don't believe all sorceres are evil?
Arthur: I did help you save that druid boy, didn't I?
Morgana: But... You never spoke up and always followed Uther's orders blindly.
Arthur: Because I had to, not because I wanted to. And you speak up more than enough for the both of us.
Morgana: Well it would have helped me for you to speak up for me there.
Arthur: I agree that you could easily fool Tauren. It wouldn't be hard for him to believe you don't share the king's ideas despite being the king's ward since that's already true anyways. But I also agree with my father that it's too dangerous for you.
Morgana: Wouldn't it be for anybody?
Arthur: You're the king's ward.
Morgana: So it's only okay to endanger others if they are not nobelty, isn't it?
Arthur: (sighs) You still don't forgive me for using Gwen's father.
Morgana: Will you forgive me easily if I used Merlin for something like that?
Arthur: ...
Morgana: Let me help. You'll be leading the ambush, Uther doesn't have to know I was involved. Please.
Arthur: (sighs longly) I'm going to regret this.
Morgana: Yes! (hugs him) Thank you!
End of flashback
The ambush is a success. Arthur and the knights kill Tauren and all his followers, leaving a pool of blood behind. It helped that the mage stone Morgana gave to Tauren was actually a replica Merlin helped made.
Arthur: (thinking, while looking at the corpses coldly) 285.
Morgana: (horrified at Arthur's display and guilty because despite knowing they were evil, these people were like her and accepted her)...
Merlin: (overwhelmed, but mostly concerned) Arthur?
Arthur: Lets go. (leaves)
Morgana: (to Merlin) Has he always been like this when he... does this kind of missions?
Merlin: (trying to reassure Morgana, but mostly himself) Yeah... It's... it's normal (thinking) But he has never been this numb while killing people before…
And they leave in an uncomfortable silence.

Wish rewrite with Amaya as the villain (spoilers)
While I love Chris Pine as the narcasistic King Magnifico, I feel like they wasted a opportunity to have Amaya as a villain.
Instead of a confident narcissist, Magnifico is a timid yet sweet wizard who stays in his lab, waers ragged servant clothes behind closed doors, and doesnt come out that often, except to grant wishes. Think of him as a male version of Elsa and Snowwhite.
the pressure to grant everyones high expectations and his own introvert nature causes him to often screw up the wishes he has to grant at the ceremony. Note that the wishes that he grants are all materialistic yet harmless, like, "I want a puppy!" or "I want a house!"
Amaya, who serves as Mother Gothel/Evil Queen to Magnificos Rapunzel/Snowwhite, married him solidly because of his sorcery and has been secretly breaking his self-esteem over the years. She installed the dogma in Magnificos head that only SHE can judge wishes accordingly and that people cant be trusted with them because they are all selfish (which is true, to a extent). Not only that, but she also keeps Magnificos OWN wish - to be a great wizard - to herself as a means to control him.
Then, enter Asha, who sees this emotional abuse by accident and boldly speaks her mind to Magnifico about this, planting the first seed in Magnificos head that Amaya is using him, much like the town is using him for.materialistic wishes. Magnifico doesnt believe Asha because of denial - the wishing ceremony is the only time his subjects actually pay attention to him and his sorcery is his only means of value to the community - and so, he banishes her from the castle.
The movie could then still follow the same broad lines with Asha meeting Star and convincing the townspeople to rise up.
Unlike the materialistic wishes that Magnifico can grant with his staff, Star's magic can actually do wondrous things - like, grant an infinite number of wishes, make people magically fall in love with you, bring people back from the dead, etc. Once Amaya gets Star, she plans to dump Magnifico for the better option. As her methodes become more and more extreme to quell the revolutionists and find Star, Magnifico keeps the fragil peace between the revolutionists (who want all the wishes returned to them) and patriots (who are on Amaya's side and believe wishes should be governed). his popularity skyrockets, as people start to respect and see him as more than just a genie in a bottle. in turn, Magnifico becomes more confident.
Amaya becomes furious that the balance in their relationship has shifted. Fearing Magnifico becomes too comfident and will free himself from the abuse, she locks Magnifico up in the highest tower, steals his staff and absorbs the bad/selfish/harmful wishes that Magnifico keeps contained in a seperate vault.
The final battle/climax would then play out almost the same as in the movie: Asha and Star lure the "Queen" in a wild chase scene while her friends free Magnifico.
Magnifico is at his lowest point as Amaya forces all of Rosas, including himself, to its knees with the bad wishes. He is powerless without his staff and equipment to stand up to her. Asha reminds him that "he is a Star!", not because of his magic but because of his good heart.
Magnifico is freed from Amayas magical grip thanks to the belief of Asha and his people. He fuses with Star (think of Rapunzel in the Tangled series, when her eyes and hair glow) to fight Amaya in a sorcerous duel that pays tribute to Merlins duel with Madame Mim. He wins, imprisons her in the Mirror, stores the bad wishes back into the vault and revives the good wishes.
rin the ending, Star grants Magnifico his wish to be a great wizard, giving him the ability to grant powerful wishes like Star. Magnifico then rules as the King of Rosas with Asha as his right hand.
