Dancing In An Orchid
Tumblr media
These Miltoniopsis orchids were captured by Nell as she was drawn to the little 'dancers' in the orchids. Image out of the 1-inch sensor looked a little flat. So some 'burning' in post was applied to mitigate that a bit.

Orchids were Darwin’s “abominable mystery.” They continue to elude science—and efforts to save them.
How a single family of flowers could vary so widely—from small and frilly, almost invisible to see, to large, gaudy and with a front pouch—left Darwin baffled. He called this, and flower diversity as a whole, an “abominable mystery.” Indeed, there are upward of 28,000 species of orchids worldwide and new ones cropping up every so often—sometimes even right under our noses. They have made their homes on all contemporary continents save for Antarctica—from the Arctic north, across the equator, and reaching south through all but the tip of South America.

That was not great...
What “that” am I talking about? Read on my friend(s). Miltoniopsis – Mltnps in the trade (Sure, whatever…) Today was a dashing day. And it started terribly. One ride in two hours. Blech. As usual, I ended up doing ok, but…I would like to get great shifts at least three days out of five! And that just isn’t happening. Sigh and poo. Moving on. Dash one – decent – dash two – also decent. I got two…

My miltoniopsis Lillian Nakamoto arrived! I had to order a larger pot for it because it's so big! Some of the blooms were damaged in the heat, but it'll be ok.

The only Bismark's Miltoniopsis (Miltoniopsis bismarckii) I saw in Peru, unfortunately, I couldn't get a photo of its frontal side.

Apparently my new hobby is getting orchids from discount shelves but hey, if you see an orchid for 1,75€ can you leave her there? I will have to research these two beauties a little first since I only took care of phals till now, though I believe one is miltoniopsis and the other unidentified oncidium but correct me if I’m wrong. One way or the other, I love them already ♥

Turns out that Queenie, my miltoniopsis was hiding a neat little surprise. She indeed is growing me a psudosprig! I was looking over her leaves and moved one just so and discovered her little secret. Dunno if I should remove the leaf or not, but for now I will leave it be. Probably when it is bigger that leaf might have to go, but with luck maybe not, we will see. If anyone has experiance with this orchid type, please leave me a comment! Could use advice on whether to leave the leaf or not! #orchid #miltoniopsis #miltoniopsisorchid #psudosprig #advice #orchidadvice #bloom #orchidcare #love https://www.instagram.com/p/CCuCST-pW-Q/?igshid=19pdtjvy0lhou
