can "activists" please stop trying to fuck with the empty frames at the Gardner museum. this is the second time the museum has had to close early to keep that from happening
like. first of all, the art museum climate protests that have happened so far piss me off despite the fact that I agree with their overall goals, because the messages in interviews all boil down to "how DARE you VALUE ART when BAD THINGS ARE HAPPENING, ordinary museum-goer?!" but at least they've taken pains to not actually damage anything important (throwing soup on modern, sealed cases or glass barriers instead of the art itself, etc.)
the frames at the Gardner? are art in their own right. they are mostly very old and made by often-unacknowledged craftsmen who were incredibly talented. they're not the same as a modern barrier. AND they're there as a reminder of a time when some jerks stole art from the public so rich assholes could wall it up in private collections so only they got to enjoy it
like go puncture a CEO's tires or something that actually reaches the people responsible for this mess instead of ordinary humans (who probably already agree with you!) just trying to do the very Human Thing of appreciating art
EDIT: I double-checked, and last time their Thing was "why are people still talking about the Gardner heist, but NOBODY is talking about biodiversity loss?!?!?!"
which is just.
they are? just not usually in the same breath as an unsolved art theft case?

i cannot believe hopoo seriously went and said "okay it's time to finally return to our original child game. the game that we put so much love to at an early time and though it was flawed, it was still a gem. We're going to make it an even better gem now. but also QOL is easy peasy who cares for that lets add a fuck ton more enemies, a HUGE update to all sprites with so much more detail that still (((FUCKING SOMEHOW???))) retains the charm of the original, accessibility options for those who want to play with their friends on higher difficulties, implement a majority of ROR2 items as well as alternate abilities, give you fun minigame modes to unlock more things, let Christodoulou go absolutely nuts with touching up all of your favorite tracks, DOUBLE the entire roster to a wonderful degree, MAKE THE GAME ONLY FIFTEEN DOLLARS- and oh yeah also here's animated Providence being a fucking sex magnet as well he should."

After watching the new Ken promos I’m really hoping that Ken is just a massive Incel in the Barbie movie, but in a way that is just comedically pathetic.
I can just imagine him leaving Barbie land for the first time and falling head first into toxic masculinity because he feels like Barbie rejects him, and it does nothing but fail in hilarious ways because he’s just too much of a cinnamon roll of a boy for him to actually be hateful so he just ends up making actually toxic dudes look bad and/or get them to actually work on themselves while he builds self-confidence outside of his relationship to Barbie

I’m Back!!! + Episode 10 Rant
Hi everyone! Sorry about the lack of posts aside from re-blogs over the past few days; I was on vacation. But, I’m back now and ready to party!
Tumblr media
I have a pretty steep uploading schedule for the next few weeks. I plan on making a new post every day or every other day for the next month or so. Some things on the agenda include some of my extended thoughts on Season 3 along with my (pretty controversial and interesting) opinions on “All’s Fair in Love and Door” and Brain as a whole from the reboot, my ranking of every Pinky and The Brain segment from the reboot, an analysis on brinky moments from the reboot’s three seasons, and a few more posts involving my Animaniacs merchandise and some personal stories. This is going to be a lot, but I’m making up for lost time. Anyways, now that I’ve explained my absence, I need to talk about something besides my schedule. So here’s a rant on episode 10 of season 3 for you to enjoy! I’m so glad to be back! Narf!
Spoiler alert: This dives into minor spoilers for season 3, episode 10 of the reboot. Proceed at your own risk!
I’m so frustrated at this finale. So, very frustrated. This was the most disappointing thing to come from the Animaniacs franchise. I get that they ran out of time to make an adequate conclusion due to the show’s cancellation, but they still could’ve done better than this. This episode was not funny, there were a lot of false promises, the concepts were bland, and I just felt so empty after watching this. Each segment proved to be worse than the last and was underwhelming in some way. I wished the show ended on a different note and while I’m still a fan of the show, I just can’t help but feel upset.
“International Mouse of Mystery” was good, but they lied to us! It’s only a cold-opening, not a full segment. While the song was fantastic (Pinky is amazing at everything he does), the animation was expressive, and the jokes were funny, I wished that this was longer. Is this the last appearance of the mice? I hope it’s not because that would be just plain sad. This should have came earlier in the season and instead, the Christmas episode should’ve been the finale. I still liked this segment quite a bit.
“Aliens Resurrected” was a tad bit of a letdown to me. The song was good, but it wasn’t as good as “A Brief History of History.” I loved the animation and the premise, but the “International Mouse of Mystery” song and the song from the Christmas episode were better overall. This song was the last one from the reboot and that’s kind of sad. I just thought that this segment promised more than it gave us, but I still liked it enough.
I didn’t pay that much attention to “Joe”. Just a one-off segment with good animation and nothing else. That’s it.
“The Stickening” was the episode that disappointed me the most. The story was so promising with the Warners going to an amusement park and getting stuck together. Unfortunately, the segment just evolved into chaos with barely any laughs or any substance. The ending was bull-crap and it was just so unremarkable and un-funny. I hated it so much since this was the final appearance of a majority of the cast including Pinky, Brain, and Ralph. Some people may like it, but I’m just not a fan.
“Slappy’s Return” was a nice one-off segment with a funny punchline. I loved seeing Slappy again, but I wish it was longer. This was fun and I was laughing a lot at how meta it was. Not much to say here, it was just nice.
“Everyday Safety: Giant Adirondack Chair” was the worst segment from the entire season in my opinion and one of the worst segments from the reboot. It wasn’t funny, it dragged on too long, it was boring, and it gave us the stupidest ending in the history of endings. The Warners just being killed was such a lackluster way to conclude the series and I was actually screaming at my T.V. I was so angry and upset. I can’t believe that this is how it ended. I know it was rushed but come on! They can do a million times better than this!!! I never want to watch, talk, or hear about this segment ever again. I love this show, and it deserved a better ending than this.
This episode pissed me off so much. Only two segments of great quality were here while the rest ranged from okay to god-awful. I won’t be watching this episode ever again except for the cold-opening and the Slappy segment. I don’t consider this to be the finale. I much prefer Wakko’s Wish, “Star Warners”, or “The Animaniacs Suite.” Watch those instead of this, please. I can’t believe that this is real and I am so angry and mad about all the decisions made. I’m sorry if I come off as too aggressive here, but I really am truly devastated about this. I need to talk about the mice or I’m going to explode. Don’t worry, though! My next post will be way more positive (I think)!

KW Routes of the 6 new love interests
Tumblr media
(Art from the EB Deluxe Pack on Steam)
Older or better informed members of the Hakuōki fandom, I have a question for you:
Why are the KW routes of the older three Love Interests (Sannan, Nagakura and Yamazaki) so drastically different from those of the newest three (Iba, Sōma and Sakamoto)?
I guess the older three were given their mini-routes in older games in a fashion similar to that in Sweet School Life and then for Kyoto Winds, Idea Factory just added a few more scenes to the already existing routes... Of course, for the newest three they could not use the same strategy.
But re-writing several scenes to include the newest three and use their Shinsengumi-outsider status as an excuse reason to ramble on and on about explain in detail the Shinsengumi, Furies, politics and historical facts? How dare this game call itself an otome?!
I’m almost finished replaying KW for my Love Interest Scenes Compilation and I’m bored out of my brains since the “explaining scenes” that I cut out before because they had nothing to do with the Love Interest/romance NOW are exclusive to each of the three remaining Love Interests’ routes but at the same time, these scenes barely have any influence on the Love Interests or their relationship with Chizuru!
(And Chizuru is usually just sitting/standing there, contributing nothing (or just a few sentences) to the scenes. Even if she has a new scene with the Love Interest, she mostly does nothing until the LI comes to save her (e.g. when she follows Takeda or is accosted by Miki). Poor girl, ignored by Idea Factory as always again...)
What bothers me the most, though, is when/that these exclusive “explaining scenes” repeat information Chizuru/the player already knows. These are just there for the player to see the newer three’s reactions but contribute nothing to plot and story! Maybe - maybe! - somewhere in the scene, Chizuru/the player learns something new or specific about the LI but in these cases, the repeated info should still have been cut out.
Sōma’s route is the worst offender since it mostly consists of Sōma learning more about the Shinsengumi and its ideals, history and secrets. This route is barely about Sōma and least about his relationship with Chizuru. Like I said when I first played the game: The love story in his route is mainly about his love story with the Shinsengumi. And it serves the purpose of manipulating the player’s opinion on the Shinsengumi more thoroughly than any other route. Thanks, I hate it.
As a result of these exclusive “explaining scenes”, Iba’s scene compilation is 4 hours long whereas Yamazaki’s is only 1 1/2 hours long.
Who at Idea Factory thought these strategies with the new LIs were good ideas? The older three’s scenes are way too simple and too short (around 5mins each or less) while the newer three’s are too long (10-20mins) each. This is wayyy too unbalanced for the game, imo.

did tumblr mess with the spacing of the options in their new left-side menu today, or that just my browser? it looks terrible. I want some empty space; let me breathe. this is too busy.
nothing about this UI flows very well (just look at the placement of the tumblr logo—it doesn't vertically align with the text of the tabs, nor the search box).
edit: and now it's back to how it was before.

I miss people using non-medicalized terms for other people's passions
like. well and good to talk about "hyperfixations," "special interests [in the context of an autistic person's favorite subject]," or "infodumping" if you have ADD/ADHD or autism, or are talking about someone who is, but...that's not everyone who feels strongly about something, obsesses, or loves talking about their interests. those words mean specific things, associated with specific forms of neurodivergence
don't assume everyone is comfortable with that language
"rambling" is a word; so is "ranting." "obsession" is a word. "passion" is a word. learn them and use them

Magic: The Gathering’s 30th anniversary ‘celebrations’ have to be one of the textbook examples of corporate tone deafness.
For $1000, you can buy 4 randomized packs of cards, 15 each, of reprints of the first set of MtG. It’s cool tho, it doesn’t fly in the face of the reserved list because they gave them a special back. So that makes these technically proxies. There is 0 guarantee of a decent card. It’s printed to set number. You can only buy it from Wizards’ website, not your LGS. Your average LGS was sent one set as a ‘courtesy’.
There’s a lot about modern magic that keeps me out of getting back into it. Despite wanting to get back into it.

Honestly a big advantage of the “Shadow and Bone” Netflix series is that it’s made by people who actually care about the story. Or at least it feels like it. The creators are changing things, but they take care to keep the characters, the plot, and the themes consistent and true to the author’s original vision.
That’s just not something that happens a lot in American media. Usually the creators will just use another person’s story as a vehicle for their own ideas and messaging, and claim that’s it’s fine because “adaptation can’t be identical to the source material”, “it’s my unique take”, “you can always just read the book” and other bullshit excuses to mask their own arrogance.
I wish “The Witcher” series had received half the love this show is clearly receiving. Because even to something that’s at its core a mediocre Chosen One YA story, it makes all the difference. Imagine what something a bit more ambitious could look like if treated with the same care instead of being handed over to people who hate the source material and its fans.
I mean, you could also watch 2021 “Dune” for a sneak peak, I guess.

It kinda annoys me when people use the term underrated. Not that things can't actually be underrated, but I only ever see it used for stuff that is already pretty damn popular. People never seem to use it for stuff that's actually little-known or little-appreciated.

I've seen so many versions of Selonians, that I get confused and a little dizzy. Why does official Star Wars art make them look like tigers?! (Recent canon.) They're mustelids! Otters and weasels, people!
Oh, well, to each their own, I guess. All the fanart (without fail) I've seen, however, has been amazing.
