ooohhhh i'd love to hear your headcanons about bucky's family cause i just love that era of his life i feel like his relationship with his family is kinda unexplored in fics cause the prewar fics tend to focus on bucky slaaaving away for poor baby sick steve's meds and idk i think bucky would be so close to his sisters!!! and a mama's boy really!! also on that note it breaks my heart to think of the girls after bucky's death :((

people always forget bucky was canonically close to his parents likeeee he says so himself!!!! and it just makes sense for the time period he grew up in. he was the eldest child and more importantly the eldest SON so he probably started working at a young age and grew up always aware that he was supposed to be taking care of others and bringing home money. that is nawt exclusive to him living with steve. we’ve seen how protective he was of steve so i can only imagine how he was with his sisters like :( i also hc him as being a mama’s boy because look at how much be cared for sarah, who wasn’t even his mother. bucky’s family also obviously cared for steve. jt wasn’t just bucky who wanted to help him out after the funeral. idk bucky grew up in a big, close knit family !!!! that’s part of why hes so protective !!!! ik he was the overbearing but well meaning big brother type always insisting he walk his sisters places and judging the guys they went out with or brought home. THE BARNES FAMILY IS MY FAMILY TOO!!!!

(also i have a fic that centers around bucky and his family post sarah’s death so let me plug that rq)

#side note i always hc bucky as calling his father pops #and his mother ma but mama when hes trying to butter her up or is really upset about something <3 #coming up w names for buckys other two sisters is so fun #ive pretty much settled on rosie and ruthie (rosemary and ruth) #and they arent twins but theyre closer in age to each other than they are to becca #becca being marked as buckys next of kin :( #i do Not hc bucky as being from indiana bc its too close to 616 but i think becca moving to indiana after she gets married makes sense #i get irrationally irritated when people make bucky and becca twins or make her older than him like #HE IS THE OLDEST. YOU CANNOT TAKE THAT AWAY. #bucky obv is close to his family even after he turns 18 and is probably looking to move out #he was like 19 in the tws flashback and invited steve to his parents place for a sleepover. makes me feel like passing out.
