Apparently mothy has released a short story revolving around Josephine for a Rin/Len 14th Birthday short story anthology. Will you be translating it if you are able to get your hands on it?
(other ask) Have you seen that mothy has announced a new Daughter of Evil short story called 「悪ノ馬」, to be published on 「鏡音リン・レン 14thバースデーノベルズ」? Do you think you will be able to translate it?
I will if I have access to it, yes, though I will say that with my financial situation being what it is, I'm not that eager to buy a separate book solely for the one story in it.
It also looks like a two-part anthology (?), so if I do snag it off Amazon when it comes out, I'll have to make sure I'm getting the right one.

Cunning Linguists Author Interview: Cathy Bryant
Julia’s personal ad was finished. Well, her online personal ad: a profile page for a hook-up site. At least hook-up sites weren’t filled with travel bores and people who wanted to drink red wine, hold hands, and laugh by firelight. Bollocks to that, she thought, you lying fucks. In reality you drink beer, and masturbate to internet porn before crying yourself to sleep, like a normal person.
Her ad:
There are three scenarios that interest me. As I’m recently divorced, I’m not looking for a relationship. Just sex or something else physical, and the following are my preferences, not in any order.
1. You bend me over something and fuck me hard. Not anally – just hard fucking in my cunt. When I say bent over something, it’s probably going to be the side or end of the bed, isn’t it? They get upset if you do it in the freezer section of Waitrose. No hair pulling or arse slapping. It’s not sexy. It’s just you being a knob. You can kiss my back or neck if you wish. Something about doing this whole thing in complete silence appeals to me, though I’m not sure why.
or:
2. Soft kissing, with a little tongue and then maybe with a lot of it. Rather like when we were teenagers and used to spend evenings eating each other’s faces, only now, one hopes, with a little more panache. Just kissing. This would be ideal for those of you who crave physicality with a woman but have erectile dysfunction. I really mean it - kissing as an end in itself. Incidentally, I’d rather not kiss for five minutes and then have a three hour blow-by-blow account of your divorce, while you cry into my breasts messily.
or:
3. This is a position that works really well for me. I lie on my back. You kneel in front of me. My feet are on your shoulders. Your cock is in my cunt and you fuck me. You can still reach my breasts if you want.
All scenarios: you treat me with respect at all times, and you are not rough, and you do not call me names. You take my wishes into account at all times.
-from “Spark to the Tinder” in Cunning Linguists
After being homeless in her teens, Cathy Bryant worked as a life model, shoe shop assistant, civil servant, and childminder, among other jobs. When she became too disabled to work full-time, her best friend made Cathy start submitting her writing to various places. She has now had hundreds of pieces published and three poetry collections, as well as having won 29 literary awards. Her latest book is Erratics, from Arachne Press, and her bestselling book is How to Win Writing Competitions. Cathy also runs the Comps and Calls website that lists free opportunities for writers: www.compsandcalls.com/wp. She lives in Salford, UK, with her husband, who is also a writer.
What inspired you to write this story? I'm fascinated by both language and sex, and I've written poetry about both before. An example is my poem 'Sexual Positions for Those No Longer Young', which won the Wergle Flomp Award for Humorous Poetry in 2015:
Too old, too old for reverse cowgirl or anything with the word 'donkey' in it except for The Ambling Blackpooler. We make up our own dances for the divans: The Upturned Mouse, The Irish Potato, The Half-full Cup of Tea, The Tipsy Llama; The Sideways Organ-grinder, and this time it's your turn to be the monkey. They mustn't sound like cocktails or perfumes - the Tom Jones Semitone, for instance. Stick to The Chuckle Brothers Cha Cha Cha, (to me - to you - to me) Getting Right Into the Corners (an important one, that), The Disgruntled Librarian, The Belgium. Darling, darling, let's try -  Servicing the Caravan, Polishing the Bevelled Edge, The Newt, The Plumber's Lunch Break, The Mothy Woollen, Happy Hour at the Gardening Centre, The Tiptoe Tremble with Tray, The Assembly Instructions in Japanese; The Summer Pudding, The Slip-on Shoe, The Countdown Conundrum, The Saggy Bagpuss Squish, The Torville & Dean, Bargain Hunt, The Antiques Road Show, The Reconditioned Hoover. Together we'll write The Saga Sutra.
I've written about it since I was a teenager, mostly in poetic form. My first efforts were drool-sodden clichés. After that, what I found challenging was to manifest the reality of sex. I was dying to say things like, "She explained that she hadn't shaved her legs and was a bit stubbly" and, "There is no sexy way to take off shoes and socks. Stockings, yes, but not socks,"  but there was no market for this 40 years ago! Everyone was still groaning and soaking with 'perfect' bodies, and clothes that fell away by magic, which erased practically everybody. It took me a while, as my own experiences developed, to find the right words for what I wanted to do. I think I've been waiting for the New Smut Project for decades!
When did you first discover erotic writing?
In my teens, in Penguin Modern Poets 10: the Mersey Sound. This iconic collection of the poems of three Liverpool lads changed the face of poetry - and its genitals - as we read about lust and love and sex for the first time in such honest detail. Roger McGough (who now presents Poetry Please on Radio 4) stood out, as he mixed the grubby humanity of life with love and sensuality.
What’s your favorite sex scene you’ve ever read?
I honestly don't have one, though I'm expecting to find it in Cunning Linguists!
What’s your favorite sexy word?
Perhaps it's because I'm British, but I adore the word 'bottom'. Bottoms are lovely. I was discussing this the other day with a fellow poet: bottoms don't have the status that they should, and neither does the word. I also like the British 'arse'. A nice long vowel there, ideal for screeching, "I ADORE your AAAARRRRSE!"
What’s the favorite sexy word of one of the characters in your story? Does your character have any controversial word choice opinions? Maybe some you don’t share?
Julia wants to yell every sexy cliché there is all mixed together: "Yesyesyesgodgodgodfuckfuckfuckohgodohgodyeahyeahyeahmoremoremoreharderharderharder" etc, but she doesn't let herself - at this point in her story. I don't do this, but that's because I'm usually becoming the universe and then turning inside out, as one does.
What stories are you working on now? Do you have some upcoming releases readers should look out for?
I'm still working on the MS of Julia's whole story, 'Sex with Introverts'. I also write a load of poetry and stories that get published all over the place. There's a writer called Cathy Bryant who writes fundamentalist Christian fiction - don't get me mixed up with her! I don't think she'd like it! (She seems very nice, by the way.)
Later this week I'll be performing at the Launch of 'We're All in It Together', an anthology of poetic responses to Brexit, and Britain after Brexit. The title is a quote from the politician who launched the referendum that took us away from our allies and friends in the European Unity. I have a number of books in print: 'Contains Strong Language and Scenes of a Sexual Nature', 'Look at All the Women' and 'Erratics', plus How to Win Writing Competitions (and make money), as I've won 31 writing awards and contests and I know what to do.

Afterword
master of the heavenly yard afterword
First, thank you for reading this far.
With this final installment, this novel series that depicts the Evillious region and the world referred to as the Third Period has twelve volumes in total. (The “Daughter of Evil” series is four, the “Deadly Sins of Evil” series is eight. I’ve left out the guidebooks)
And the “master of the heavenly yard” is the twelfth installment.
Clockwork and springs and the like are just called “Clockwork” in English. The numbers leading up to and including twelve are what show the hours inscribed on a clock face. This series depicts close to a thousand years of the Evillious region’s history, but maybe the clock has really only gone around once—maybe only twelve hours have passed.
A dream seen in a slightly long sleep…Was all of what that bat said a complete lie, I wonder?
.
Leaving that aside, this current work, “master of the heavenly yard” that completes the series—or to abbreviate it, “mashev”, or “mothy”—regarding it’s ending…I decided to make it how it was relatively early on.
First, the image of putting a golden key into a box is something I derived from the Grimm fairytale “The Golden Key”. The Grimm Fairytales have been revised several times (you wouldn’t go amiss to look into these revisions a little. Depending on the person those numbers could be really interesting), but at any rate what’s been published as the final story is the “golden key”.
I think the time I decided to make that into the motif for the conclusion of the series around the time I made the song called “A Tale of Abandonment on a Moonlit Night”. That song was similarly based on a Grimm Fairytale called “Hansel and Gretel”, but at the same time it also depicted the impetus for the “Seven Deadly Sins” being released into the world.
(This is a tangent, but in the last Grimm Fairytale the brothers Grimm published before they died, “Hansel and Gretel” is recorded as being the “fifteenth” story. …If that number rings a bell, you must be a pretty big “of Evil” fan).
If the story of the beginning of the “Seven Sins” story was to utilize a Grimm Fairytale theme, then the ending should also have one—that was basically my simple line of reasoning.
Another thing, regarding the final chapter of this work, the “Prologue”.
--The hands of a clock will go back to where they started when they go all the way around.
In that sense, all three episodes are a “prologue” in their own way…but setting the series itself aside for a moment, what about me—what is the “prologue”, in other words the “beginning”, for myself, “AkunoP”?
…For those of you who don’t know, take a look at the interior fold of the book cover.
My profile is written there, you see.
--Now then, back to the story.
There are various patterns in how to end a story, but for me I personally think that “returning back to the beginning” is the most beautiful form of conclusion.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean that “everything up to then is rendered null”.
Even though a clock’s hands may return to their starting point, that doesn’t mean that time itself has wound backwards.
There may be changes there that you can’t see, and a new “beginning”.
The “prologue” of this story. That is what leads to a new start, for all of my readers and myself as well.
…With that thought in mind, I put a “certain song” in the end, one that had been thought unrelated to the series up to this point.
.
Despite having written down all of this long series, surprisingly enough I haven’t felt a sense of accomplishment at having done so.
I feel like I had that a little bit more when I ended the “Daughter of Evil” series.
Simply put, I think it’s that I don’t really have time to settle down over it.
Even now as I’m writing this afterword, the book isn’t necessarily finished. Even though I’ve written the whole manuscript, there’s still proofreading, illustrations, confirming the formatting, etc.
When the book is published the name on the cover will be that of the author, but in actuality it was made under the efforts of many others.
It is through the hard work of all of these people that I’ve been able to safely finish this series. For all of my editors and illustrators, let me take this space to give you my thanks again.
…Only, I don’t think that’s the only reason for my lack of a sense of accomplishment.
.
Thinking it over, I realized that I had written the answer to that just a little bit earlier myself.
--That this isn’t the “epilogue”, but the “prologue”.
Yes—
.
This karma of “evil” is not over.
.
…Thank you all so much!!
.

Afterword and Work Explanations
Original Sin Story: Crime afterword
This work is a novelization of the Act 1 portion of the “Original Sin Story” doujin CDs distributed by the “the heavenly yard” circle, and it’s also a prequel to the “Daughter of Evil” and “Deadly Sins of Evil” series published by PHP institute.
The “Deadly Sins of Evil” series, similar to this work, all had their main motifs taken from songs published previously by their writer (mothy_AkunoP), and it’s also a series that was developed over close to a decade.
In these works a span of almost a thousand years passes over the course of the series, and the following order is how it goes chronologically.
.
“Original Sin Story”-->”The Lunacy of Duke Venomania”-->”Evil Food Eater Conchita”-->”Daughter of Evil (four books total)”-->Gift From the Princess Who Brought Sleep”-->”Fifth, Pierrot”-->”Tailor of Enbizaka”-->”Judgment of Corruption”-->”The Muzzle of Nemesis”-->”Master of the heavenly yard”
.
In other words, the “Original Sin Story” is the “Story of the Beginning” that occurs in these series.
And depicted in it are the backstories for the figures that debut in the other works like “Adam”, “Eve”, and “Seth”, as well as the details of the creation of the key items, the “Vessels of Deadly Sin”.
…Though, since the part depicted in this work is just the first act of the “Original Sin Story” albums, any further core content will be carried over into the next book.
My initial plan was to collect all of it into one volume, but during the progression of the plot I went “Ah, this is totally impossible” and gave up on that.
In the end I decided to split it into two volumes, but even so there were a few developments I was unable to depict in this book that would also be difficult to have in the next one.
(There was the issue of page number, but I also just wanted to avoid making the story tedious with too many digressions)
For that reason I wanted to talk roughly here about the conceptual elements I could only allude to briefly or that were cut altogether.
Magic Kingdom Levianta (the story’s setting)
As shown in the main work, it’s a country whose territory is the entire northern region of Evillious, and it was founded by excavators of the legacy of the Second Period (the era wherein lived those called “Gods” like Levia and Behemo).
The true identity of these “excavators” was a clan of sorcerers, and it all started when they set their eyes on these legacy pieces as tools to more easily make use of their magical arts.
The more powerful a magical spell, the more time and preparation it would take to set it in motion. The one to realize that by using these artifacts as an intermediary they could greatly simplify the process was the sorceress who would later become the first queen of Magic Kingdom Levianta, Alice Merry-Go-Round.
Alice hired on some help and began to mine the area around the LeviaBehemo temple where many of these artifacts slept, however it was there that the original inhabitants began to put up resistance.
These natives believed that the twin-headed dragon LeviaBehemo was a divine being, and they viewed Alice and the others who would desecrate their temple as sinners.
In order to protect the boundaries of her territory, Alice built an enormous wall around the temple.
That later came to be called the “First Wall”.
As time passed the “Second Wall” and “Third Wall” were erected, and eventually a castle took shape.
Alice named this castle Alicegrad, and declared the foundation of the country she would rule as queen, Levianta.
Even still, the pushback from the natives continued.
For the prosperity of her country, Alice decided to adopt several governmental policies to make peace with the natives.
The first was to worship LeviaBehemo as gods.
And that she would take twelve members to serve as her immediate subordinates, half of whom would be sorcerers that Alice had trained herself, and the other half being representatives chosen by the native inhabitants.
Through this reconciliation between the natives and the sorcerers, and the miraculous blessings brought about by the legacy pieces, Levianta began to walk the road of glory.
After the first queen’s death her sorceress daughter inherited her position, and at the same time also took on her mother’s name of “Alice”. That was a last ditch effort to at least somewhat maintain her majesty, the daughter being lacking in charisma compared to her mother.
But from that point on, all of the queens historically inherited the name of “Alice Merry-Go-Round”.
The current queen, “Alice Merry-Go-Round”, that shows up in the main story is the seventh queen.
.
 The Senate
The central organization of Magic Kingdom Levianta made up of the first queen’s twelve subordinates, as well as their descendants.
Each of them are respectively responsible for running one of the twelve small towns that surround the castle.
That the senate was tightly unified through history…would be something of a lie; there exists a particularly large gap in the relationship between the six families descended from sorcerers (such as Loop Octopus, or Vaju) and the six descended from natives (like Asayev and Li).
Furthermore, in the process of Gammon becoming head of the senate the Vaju family’s assets were taken over by the Loop Octopus family, resulting in there being two members of the Loop Octopus family in the senate (Gammon and his younger brother, who was the family’s main heir).
.
The Forest of Held
There might be a bit of a discrepancy in the depiction of the Forest of Held (The Millennium Tree Forest) in the main work for those of you who have already read the “Daughter of Evil” and “Deadly Sins of Evil” series.
In the “Daughter of Evil” works, this forest isn’t in the country of Levianta, existing on the Elphegort~Lucifenian border far further south than the forbidden land of Nemu (the ruins of Nemu village).
In the time of the “Original Sin Story” the area around Nemu village was Leviantan territory, and furthermore the forest sat in great abundance just south of the village.
I plan to make clear the reason for the forest being curtailed by close to half its size in the next work.
.
Lighwatch Temple
A facility meant to cultivate “queen candidates” run by the Asayev family, and also an extremely suspicious place containing cells and execution devices. Almost like a certain tower
Those able to be selected as shrine maidens are girls who have the power of an “Inheritor of Held”. Through this power they are able to erase “malice” from people’s hearts, and also hear the “voice of god”.
Its head priest, Yegor Asayev, has the power of an “Inheritor of Behemo”, and with his particular insight he is able to determine if another person has an “Inheritor” power. He used this ability to gather his shrine maidens.
Only, Yegor keeps it hidden from the public that the shrine maidens are “Inheritors”.
Zellana and Elluka, who appeared in this work, are blood sisters of disparate ages. Their parents are long dead.
.
Research regarding “ghoul children”
Originally, Horus (Seth) had inherited the research of his “friend” who had been “the authority on the study of artificial life”.
These research theories also were utilized in the birth of the “Twins of God” in Project “Ma”.
The “ghoul children” he created had the trait of being able to grow up very rapidly, but this had the side effect of making them age rapidly as well.
Seth worked hard to suppress this side effect, but he seems to have been unable to completely avert it.
And to make these “ghoul children” active, he needed to implant in them a reserve false personality.
The false personality had several varieties to it, such as “clean”, “preset”, or “copy”; as the name suggests, “clean” was a blank slate with no memories, “preset” had false memories that were pre-made, and “copy” was implanted with Seth’s own memories.
Furthermore, having advanced in his research on “Inheritors”, Seth was able to utilize his results on a certain “ghoul child”.
Through this, that artificial human gained the power of an “Inheritor of Gilles”, but as a side effect it results in several problems surfacing with their false personality.
.
Catherine
--Once upon a time.
Catherine, a marine biologist, boarded a space ship called the “Climb I” with her husband Gilles.
She had a son with her husband, but he had been sickly, and thus was unable to become a member of the crew.
Catherine continued to lament this fact, and also grew jealous of a female psychologist named Rahab, another passenger on the ship.
That was because Rahab had two children, and both of them had been able to board the “Climb I”.
When she realized that this Rahab and Gilles were having an affair, Catherine’s jealousy turned to “anger”.
Enlisting the help of her friend, Lich, Catherine tried to secretly murder Rahab inside the spaceship.
But…she had the tables turned on her, and was brought to the brink of death.
As her consciousness faded—Catherine saw looking down on her was the man she had thought was her friend, smiling.
By the time she had realized that it was “malice” taking on Lich’s form, it was already too late.
--If I write any more than this it’ll end up spoiling some of the next book, so I’ll leave it here.
Well then…Let’s meet again in the sequel, “Original Sin Story: Punishment”!

Afterword
The Lunacy of Duke Venomania, afterword
In front of you is a lamp. Or maybe just the drawer of a desk.
It is a magical lamp that was excavated from the ruins of some country somewhere. Or else it’s the entrance to a time machine that leads to the future.
When you rub the lamp, a genie appears from inside. Or perhaps it’s an earless cat robot.
That genie, or robot, tells you that they will grant one wish that you have, no matter what it is.
So then, what do you wish for?
“I want to be pampered by members of the opposite sex”? “I want to be able to eat delicious foods”? “I want to rule the world to be as I wish it”? “I want to be able to rest and not have to work”? “I want to be able to crush my rivals”? “I want to become rich”?
Or, “I want revenge on the person that ruined my life”?
The protagonist of this book, Sateriasis Venomania, picked one of those answers.
Was he a villain drowning in lust, or was he a victim tossed around by fate? The answer doesn’t come through here. I have no way of knowing the answer in the first place.
Only, he had a lot of opportunities to stop what he was doing. To not do so was his own choice, and regardless of whether he wished it or not, his actions invited the fate that befell him in the end.
If you were in his position, and you had obtained the power that you’d desired, what sort choices would you make?
.
Leaving that conversation to the side.
This book, “The Lunacy of Duke Venomania” may be a member of the “VOCALOID light novel” genre (though I don’t know if that genre definitively exists or not), but there was hardly any appearances from Kagamine Rin and Len (none from Len at all, in fact), who were members of the main cast in all the works up to this point.
Though I’d planned to have Rin (or as she goes in the story, Rindo Blum) have a slightly more active role in the book…During the development of the story I wound up having to whittle down on her appearance, as she didn’t show up in the original song.
Well, I think I’ll be able to have those two show up more in the next book (if I can get it published alright, that is).
My gratitude goes out to all of the illustrators who depicted the world of the book with such wonderful pictures, and the publishers who provided their assistance in editing while compiling the book.
And many heartfelt thanks to all of the readers who bought this book and read it.
.
I hope we’ll be able to meet again in the next “World of Sin”.

Afterword
The Tailor of Enbizaka, afterword
The song, “The Tailor of Enbizaka”, is something I made a very long time before I started writing the novel. Speaking in terms of the “Deadly Sins of Evil” series it was after “Evil Food Eater Conchita”, and before “The Lunacy of Duke Venomania”. For that reason, there are several differences in the contents of the book from the original plot of the song when it was conceived. It’s a song whose role has changed following along with the development of the “Deadly Sins of Evil” series.
I looked over my old notes again when I started writing this novel, and for example let’s look at the key item in this one, the “scissors”. In my original plot, these were not scissors but a “pink harpoon”.
Why a harpoon? Maybe I had this idea that “Luka is associated with octopus. Octopus is associated with harpoons”. I’m writing as though this was some other person’s thoughts, but it was, after all, an extremely long time ago. As you can expect, I can’t clearly remember what my thought process had been at the time. Around then I was making songs with some considerable momentum, after all. At any rate, if the key item was a harpoon then Kayo was not a tailor, but rather a fisherwoman.
Moving on from that, in the original conception of the song the man that the protagonist kills wasn’t necessarily based on KAITO as his VOCALOID. Only, when making the song into a movie almost all of the people who applied to do illustrations for it drew the man as a KAITO. So, figuring there was no reason to go against that, in this novel I decided to go on to base him on KAITO.
One more thing, relating to the story of “Jahime” that shows up in the book—that was based on a song motif that I was thinking about much earlier than “The Tailor of Enbizaka”, about right after I had made “The Daughter of Evil” song. Well, it was actually right after “The Daughter of Evil” got popular, so I think I had gotten the simple idea to make a Japanese “Daughter of Evil”. At the same time I guess I had also been considering a western genre “Daughter of Evil”, and a space opera “Daughter of Evil”, and so on, though ultimately all of those got discarded. It’s not that great to do a rehash work, after all.
Anyway…I suppose next up is “Judgment of Corruption”. The man who routinely shows up in the end of all the novels up to this point, Gallerian Marlon, is finally going to be a protagonist. The fact that he’s making an appearance must mean that the series is growing increasingly closer to its finale…maybe.
I’ve been talking as though it’s been set in stone that the continuation will be published, but I still don’t know what’s really going to happen in this tough world of ours, after all. Well, even if something unexpected should occur, I plan to have the novel “Judgment of Corruption” published in some form or another. As my responsibility as the original author.
Well then, let us meet again in the next work.

Afterword
Praefacio of Blue, afterword
It’s finished, I’ve finally written the end.
Four years have passed since I uploaded the “Daughter of Evil” song to the Douga website. At the time I made it, I could never have imagined that not only would there be a four-book novel series based on it, but I would be the one to write it myself.
I’d never written a novel before in my life. On the contrary, I was the type of person who was so bad at writing I couldn’t even stick to a journal.
I love to read books. When I was a kid I was always reading. After getting home from school I wouldn’t go outside and play or anything, I’d just be absorbed reading these huge and bulky fairytale hardcovers that I’d gotten from a friend of my parents, which was a twenty book series in total. I don’t know if it was because of that, but I’m really bad at exercising. I was the only one in my class who couldn’t swing up on the horizontal bar, I couldn’t serve the volleyball into the other team’s court…
Even so, I had never written a book myself. There were already so many wonderful books in the world, so I had no need to, after all! What was more, after I got into high school my interests shifted to music, so I my passion towards books waned and I lost my opportunities to write.
I suppose the point at which my viewpoint changed was when I started making VOCALOID songs. I learned how much fun it was to create works. It was still hazy, but around that time I started wanting to take the plot that I was imagining that couldn’t be expressed through song alone, and put it into a book.
I only thought about it—I didn’t tell it to anyone…Or so I thought, but according to one of my friends I apparently declared that I “Will make Daughter of Evil into a novel!” during a drinking party. I myself was quite drunk so I don’t remember it very well, but apparently all the people around us outside of my friend were snickering at me.
The real issue was that at the time, I was a salaryman, so I didn’t have the time to spend making something like that. I had my hands full just making songs, let alone the span it would take to write a novel. The fact that I was able to have novelization discussions just after I quit my job was lucky on both counts.
There were various twists and turns after I started writing. I suffered a lot of anguish. Even so, I somehow managed to make a full book, and the light-novel “Daughter of Evil: Cloture of Yellow” was published without incident. I received some profits, and I learned things.
And so, now I have finished writing “Praefacio of Blue”, the fourth work in the series.
.
For now I think I’ll end the “Daughter of Evil” series here. I can’t say that’s everything, but for the most part I’ve put in everything I wanted to write.
My deepest thanks to everyone at the PHP Institute and the Studio Hard Deluxe company, who assisted me in all of the works up to this point and sometimes went along with my willfulness.
As for my drinking buddy You-ring@Kitano Tomotoshi-san, who’s done the cover from the third book onward. My work has gained such brilliant color thanks to you.
And, Ichika-san, who participated in the original works back when “Daughter of Evil” was just a song, and has drawn all the illustrations for the books this time around. Half of the World of Evil is yours.
I offer up my gratitude also to all the wonderful illustrators for the frontispieces and pinups for the books, starting with Yuu-san who has also been here since the first book.
.
I have so much appreciation for all the readers who have opted to take up these books.
I hope I can meet with you all again somewhere.

Afterword
Praeludium of Red, afterword
The “Daughter of Evil” novel series has reached its third installment.
This time the story is told from the viewpoints of Keel’s daughter Yukina, and King Kyle who has become the ruler of Lucifenia. Despite “red” being affixed to the subtitle, nothing is from Germaine’s viewpoint. She already had her turn in the first book.
The time period is different from the others, as it takes place about five years after the revolution. It’s not a novelization of the songs that are the so-called “original works”, but rather in the format of a sequel novel.
The subtitle for this one is “Praeludium of Red”. As I just said, it is not from Germaine’s perspective; however, this time it does center around a past connection regarding her.
Incidentally, “praeludium” means “prelude”; with the subtitles going in reverse of the chronology, it has the sort of meaning of the stories rewinding from the end to the beginning.
There is another meaning in the subtitle of “prelude”. At the time I had planned to finish this series with this third book, however as I filled in the steps of the plot with things I wanted to write, I realized that I couldn’t fit it all in one book. After some consultation with my publishers, I decided to continue on with a fourth installment.
In other words, this book is the “praeludium” to the story that comes after this one.
With that in mind, that means there are was a lie in the notice that was published at the end of the second book, “Wiegenlied of Green”. It was written that “the stage moves on to the Blue Country surrounded by ocean—“, but actually this story ends before they get there.
I figure I’ll properly write on that bit in the next work. …This time for sure!

(VG) Afterword
Wiegenlied of Green VG edition afterword
At the time that the work before “Wiegenlied of Green”, “Cloture of Yellow”, came out, VOCALOID novels had yet to really be known to the world at large. Or rather, when it came to the idea of making VOCALOID songs into the subject of a novel itself (excepting fanfictions published on the internet and in fanzines), “Cloture of Yellow” is probably remembered by most as being the first of its kind.
For that reason, at first they were hardly ever carried in most bookstores, and if it hadn’t been for fan-specialty stories and online retailers it would have been very difficult for me to sell “Cloture of Yellow” at all. Fortunately (for the publishers, the rights-holders for the VOCALOIDS, and the writers themselves), with “Cloture of Yellow” selling unexpectedly well and with the publishing company’s business efforts, they are now often sold in major book retailers. They even managed to take up their own section that is comprised of just VOCALOID novels.
Ahem.
…Well, leaving aside my extremely arrogant singing my praises that’s only excused because this is the afterword of my own book, what came next after “Cloture of Yellow” was this work, “Wiegenlied of Green”.
But to look back once more, what a subject I picked for my second novel; a “companionship between two women” that has hardly any relation to my life at all.
Back then I borrowed several books from some authorities on the subject as reference material but they were things like yuri novels and the like. If it hadn’t been for that, this book might have been in a genre that no one would read.
There were a lot of corrections and revisions I did when re-publishing this, but compared to those I did for “Cloture of Yellow” it’s much more reserved. They were of a more supplementary degree, to fix typos and to maintain consistency with the works that came after it. It’s not that there weren’t parts that bummed me out reading them again, but I decided to hold back in respect to the me of back then as long as there wasn’t anything that was too off in it.
For those of you who are just starting on the “Daughter of Evil” series with this edition, and those of you who have already read all four books, I hope you’re able to enjoy it.

(VG) Afterword
Clôture of Yellow VG edition Afterword
For this publication, I ended up looking back over my original first work again, and was struck by how greatly different the writing style is.
I suppose it only makes sense, considering it was originally written five years before this afterword I’m writing now.
As it was the first novel I’d written it, put charitably, had more vigor and energy than now; put uncharitably, it was something I wrote according to my emotions, without thinking about it much. It has a writing style that feels like a stranger’s work, and I do think that the person I was back then is different from who I am now. Not just in regard to my books and music, but on the whole.
As time passes my circumstances change, as do the people I keep company with. And of course, my way of thinking has changed a little too. In that sense, you could say that my old work is a good tool for being able to remember my mental state at the time.
Because of that I was able to feel a great deal of nostalgia while reading it, but of course there were also some minor parts that had elements I disliked. Naturally. As the person who wrote this was the “Past AkunoP”, quite unlike the me of now.
Holding onto that gloomy feeling I felt a bit awkward about publishing it as is, and I wanted to make it so that people who had already finished reading the original edition of “Cloture of Yellow” could enjoy it again, so I did some revision and additions to it. Of course, the plot hasn’t changed much, but in particular the parts relating to the Three Heroes are vastly different from the original.
Revising to this extent is something I’ll limit to this current piece. I don’t think I should do too many corrections with my old works, on the whole. Even if there are some parts that are poorly made, changing them would be no less than faking the past.
But there is a part of me that wanted to break my principles and revise just this work alone. “Cloture of Yellow” is my most profoundly memorable work, while at the same time it’s the novel that has the most technical mistakes. Really, I just wanted to change the conclusion, but of course to do that would cause too many distortions through the entire work itself, so I did my alterations just within the bounds of not damaging the writing style I used at the time.
Perhaps those of you who are touching on the “Daughter of Evil” series for the first time with this edition will be able to make some interesting discoveries if you go and read the original edition of the novel

Hi Price! Thanks so much for translating Horse of Evil! Would you remember the original publication date of the story (the source book it came from, basically)? I'm compiling a google doc timeline of all Mothy releases and I'm not sure when it was published. Thanks!
According to Amazon, 8/20 (of this year, of course)

Purchase Guide for the Evillious Chronicles
As the title suggests, under the cut is a guide to hopefully assist fans of the series in buying the novels (and albums and so forth) of the Evillious Chronicles for themselves.
Now, first of all, buying from mothy directly. As you may or may not know, mothy has stopped going through a publisher with his work, and has instead moved into the realm of self-publishing his stories, usually selling them primarily at events like Comiket. Once he has released something there, he will then bring it to his online store on Toranoana, which can be found [here].
The issue for many overseas fans is, of course, that Toranoana does not ship internationally. In order to purchase anything from the website, you need to have a Japanese address. Thus, it becomes necessary to use a proxy shipping service.
I'll explain that in a minute, because it's relevant to the second part of this guide as well.
Buying from mothy directly is a great way of showing support for his work, however there are a lot of novels (namely anything published by PHP) that aren’t available there. For all appearances it seems that these are no longer in print from his past publishers, and so it is instead necessary to buy these from second-hand or third party sellers. This is not ideal, given how wildly prices can vary, but it can be done.
My two main recommendations for this are Japanese Amazon and Japanese Mercari. ...Mostly because I haven't used any other sites.
Amazon is the easier to use for people overseas (it even has a really basic English language option so you can read the website buttons and such if you can't read Japanese), but you're also less likely to find the books on there, doubly so for a decent price.
For those who’d like to try their hand, [here] is a listing of everything mothy has on the site under his author name. Even though they are not officially being sold by Amazon and many are out of print, you will still see that many of them have third party sellers offering up used copies. The thing you have to keep in mind here is that not all of them will ship overseas, something that Amazon should inform you when going to make the purchase (I have an account with location information, so in my case Amazon will tell me so up front). I believe a proxy service can solve this issue as well, however bear in mind I haven’t tried it myself.
Now, as for Mercari, navigating the site is a little trickier, as it functions more similarly to Ebay, so there isn’t going to be a handy list like that. Personally I would go for a really basic 悪ノ娘 search (such as I’ve done [here]), which pulls up a decent selection of results, but you can enter in whatever other search terms you think will bring up what you want.
However, you cannot buy directly from Japanese Mercari. Like Toranoana, you need a proxy service. Please note--proxy services can be very helpful, but they can also add to the cost of your item by a significant amount. For many services, you can cut down on shipping costs at least by purchasing everything you want as a big bulk order, rather than getting items individually.
The only proxy service that I am personally familiar with is ZenMarket, which you can find [here]. You basically just make an account with them, then enter in the url of the product page for whatever you want to buy. They will buy it for you, and then when everything you’ve purchased arrives at their warehouse you have them create a package to ship to you. Now, I don’t think they actually purchase from Mercari, but buying from Toranoana through them should work just fine.
Two other proxy services that have been recommended to me by tumblr user Evilliyes are Tenso/Buyee and White Rabbit, both of which do purchase from Mercari.
Tenso can be found [here] (note, I have it open to English but there are other language options in the top right corner). Buyee is [here] (also with multiple language options). Tenso gives you a Japanese address to input into Japanese shopping sites, whereas Buyee will just buy the item for you outright, similar to ZenMarket (which also allows you to make purchases using currency other than Yen). They have multiple shipping options, and their overseas shipping is apparently not too badly priced.
Note that you should probably notify Tenso any time a website requires you to input your name in Japanese just to avoid any confusion over who’s making the order or not.
As for the other option, White Rabbit is another proxy purchasing service (like ZenMarket and Buyee) made for English speakers, and I’ve been told they have excellent customer service. You can find them [here]. The tradeoff for this is that they are definitely on the pricier side of things, and may even double the cost of your purchase.
Bear in mind that there are many Japanese online marketplaces that might have what you are looking for, and many proxy purchasing services out there that you can use. However, for anyone who has little to no experience purchasing items from Japan, this should be a good way to get started.
.
If you ever get confused on the pricing, a basic rule of thumb for Yen is to treat it as equivalent to a US penny (which I suppose isn’t helpful if you don’t live in the US, I’m sorry). 500 Yen is like 5 dollars, etc. This is NOT the actual exchange rate, but it should give you a baseline of how expensive something is going to be at a glance before you actually do currency conversions (there are plenty of websites that will do the math for you with a quick Google search).
-Additions-
As I’ve been informed by translator slug-translations, another good source to obtain secondhand comics, CDs, and novels is Yahoo Auctions JP ([here] is a link to another basic “ 悪ノ娘 “ search on the site). It is again another source that requires a proxy service--both ZenMarket and Buyee are heavily geared towards usage of the site, with ZenMarket (possibly also Buyee, not sure) providing some basic translation services to navigate the site for non-Japanese speakers.

(same anon as before) Re. your tags: YEAH I would love short stories dedicated to developing minor characters from other arcs. I think mothy is good at coming up with interesting character concepts but rarely has the time to flesh them out given the light novel format, so there are many characters who could benefit from it.... Also less on mothy's side, but I'd love if other arcs got illustrative data books similar to Pride's. It's a pipe dream, but. One is allowed to dream.
Databooks would solve a lot of the issues I think, yeah. Given there’s not a lot of room in the plot as he’s written it for this stuff. Though now that he’s apparently self-publishing I doubt he’ll be releasing anything like that anytime soon, given all the logistics of making one (I imagine his publishers had a heavy hand in much of the databooks for things like popularity polls and whatnot, not to mention how expensive and time consuming it must be to get so many different illustrators involved).
