my thoughts on asy ep 04 😋 live react !! (warning: I can never remember anyone's names bear with me + lots and lots of spoilers ahead)
Where is zhengting I'm partially here for his face card 🤲🤲
I keep forgetting how much I dislike Rain and then I see him and I am reminded but Rainism is rlly too good of a song 😭
1. PHANTOM
Okay first team up 😎 Phantom Galaxy I'm loving their concept
Albert is looking gorgeous as always HIS EYE MAKEUP?
All their voices slayed omg WHOEVER HAS THAT DEEP ASS VOICE IN THE CHORUS AYOOO
Blond's high notes... I see u
My vote would go to Albert (with ponytail) or blond dude or black hair dude with the silver makeup (Axinran?)
OKAYY team two flying to the dining hall (WHAT IS THIS NAME LMAO)
This group is somehow just better...
But blond here is a bit soulless idk I'm not liking him 😨
My vote would 100% go to Skye idk if he's one of the already debuted ones but he was INSANE I loved his stage presence rn he's stolen me, he's my fave in the whole show
But I also really liked the pink hair guy 😭 (is his name really John... I need to learn their Chinese names I cannot be calling this gorgeous man John 😭)
KENNY NOOOOOOOOOOO his hands shaking stop 😭 I hate this pls no
Not surprised Team 2 won, it was expected.
2. ONE AND ONLY (I'm so excited)
Pure Love Warrior is such a queer team name HAHA One is looking so fine today tho
They're STRUTTING onto the stage I love the energy
Not them recreating the iconic finger touch painting 😭 rlly about that pure love
Maybe I'm feeling disappointed because this is one of my favourite songs but they didn't do it justice at all 😭 the only one who caught my eyes was One. However I appreciate that they tried to bring out the silly goofy concepts while keeping it kinda mature to fit themselves.
ORENDA CALLING THEIR COSTUME UGLY 💀💀 real
My vote would go for One 🤞
Idk anyone from this Magic Cube group but I have hopes (OH WAIT IK WALKER I LIKE HIM his pink eye shadow makes me RAA I LOVE)
Every opinion Orenda has matches mine and that means we're soulmates basically 🤞
I'm liking this
PINK GUY IS SO CUTE
Whoever did the high note failed but it's ok 😭😭
YELLOW JACKET DUDE IS GOOD TOO HOLD UPPP
Red dude is making me kick my feet why is he giving like cool football player (?? Idk I'm tryna think of the American cliche) at school YK 😭😭 hes so masculine in a yum way
Okay I love everyone in this group except black and white jacket
WALKER BEING CALLED PAPA STOP NAWWW
Oh pink dude is Wang Muqing? My vote goes to him !!!!
SERVICE WHAT ARE YOU SAYING HE ATE SNOT ??? 😭😭 taking back his cool footballer status but tbh I didn't even know he missed the lyrics
okay I'm sorry how did One's group win 😭😭 I'm glad for them but the other boys were way better imo
3. LYDIA
First group is Deep Hidden yum
I'm looking forward to Archie
Vocals slayed as expected and they did better than I thought they would tbh
Hoodie guy was by far my favourite tho but Kingsley was rlly good too
Group 2 Daily Quest ee
Thier concept was really nice
The guy who opened the song had such a soulful voice I liked that
I liked everyone tbh not much to say
Sky's eye makeup is very pretty
Group 2 won as expected !!!! Gemini is so cute
Icb they're making me wait till next week for Ely and Ollie but alr 😭😭

I can't actually recommend Psych-Hunter, as it's not, strictly speaking, what you'd call good. It has, however, made us laugh out loud several times, and a lot of the visuals are really clever, and it's got to know what it's doing with how gay it's making those main boys (to say nothing of the police captain and that little cop who totally has a crush on him). It's weird and it's fun, and if you're looking for a thing to watch, you could do a lot worse!
NOTE: The preceding paragraph was written before I watched the last episode.
Look, this show is a hot mess. Let me break it down:
The good: some amazing visuals; excellent costuming (like, even when it's ugly, it's still good?); delightfully batshit worldbuilding decisions; fun short-arc mysteries; hella gay bromance; delicious boy tears; incredibly endearing secondary cast; great Psychonauts-esque plot device; some gorgeous mindscapes done with (mostly) practical effects; did I mention those two boys are real gay for one another?
The bad: little to no narrative cohesion; terribly bad pacing; high body count, especially of ladies; a couple inexplicable heel turns; when the CG is there, it's not great; plenty of unintentional comedy; most overarching mysteries remain completely unsolved.
The ugly: het romance that swings between just plain boring and outright skeevy; absolutely no grasp of the female lead's character; and of course, all the shit it pulls in the last episode.
...But obviously I found the whole mess still pretty compelling despite the flaws, considering I've just written like 1500 words of a Tumblr post that barely anybody else is ever going to read about it! So, uh, maybe that's an endorsement? I can't tell anymore.
Most of those words are beneath the cut, starting with the vaguely spoilery thoughts -- the ones you can read without spoiling yourself for the whole show. I'll mark when the big ones are coming up.
The good and the bad are, I think, somewhat self-explanatory. I want to talk about the ugly a bit, though.
The first two are actually two halves of the same problem. As a character, as she is written, Yuan Muqing sucks. Her entire personality is "whatever we need The Girl to be doing in this scene." She swings from Strong Independent Woman to Damsel In Distress to Spunky Female Police Officer to Spoiled Rich Schoolgirl to Giggling Love Interest with no sense that there should be any consistency between these states. Every detail of her life disappears the second it's not immediately relevant to the plot. She is a selection of two-dimensional objects chosen on a scene-by-scene basis to compliment whatever else is going on around her. I guess you could excuse this by [insert spoilers for the last episode here], but for that to work, the show would have to give off any sense that it understood her characterization was bad in the first place.
Whatever they could have done with the het romance was pretty doomed to fail from the start by having her be so badly written. (There are a few very cute moments they have later on, when they write her like an actual person, but it's too little too late.) She and Jiang Shuo already have little to no actual chemistry together, and the majority of their relationship is artificial overreaction-and-miscommunication conflict. And as though that weren't bad enough, the show keeps making it skeevy by making her so young. She's a high school student who has a very little-girl room, complete with dolls she talks to and petulantly punishes when she has tantrums. Many of her hairstyles and outfits also run young. Nobody gets a canonical age, but she's clearly a teen while both boys seem well into their twenties. The age gap does the relationship no favors.
Worse, the romance largely nukes her relationship to Qin Yiheng. When the show starts, they at least interact with one another, even if it looks like the show's going to get a "girl can't decide which boy she likes!" dynamic going with the main trio. Very quickly, though, she needs to be only The Love Interest for Jiang Shuo, meaning that she barely talks to Qin Yiheng for the whole rest of the show. Even when all three are onscreen together, those two might as well each be invisible to the other. They're not really a triangle -- they're a hinge, and the non-Jiang-Shuo points don't touch.
All that being said, there is such potential in her, and like 95% of that potential comes from the fact that the girl is obviously insane. Beyond even her canonical delusions, That Girl Ain't Right. Everything she does is so much better if you imagine there's a full-on roomba with knives simmering just beneath her bippy, ponytailed surface. She has to be Generalissimo Daddy's good little girl, when deep down she wants to do violence. That's great.
Some of the early promo materials I've seen make mention of how she's supposed to be the muscle of the operation. I wish they'd been far more consistent about that! She should absolutely be the party tank, bounding away from danger with a boy under each arm. All of the "oh no, Muqing got kidnapped/held hostage/threatened!" beats should have been responded to with a shrug.
But of course, it doesn't matter, because...
****MAJOR SPOILERS START HERE****
...it's not real.
Nearly none of it is real. There are two real people in the show, and everyone else is imaginary. Everything Jiang Shuo feels about her is completely one-sided, because she doesn't exist.
I am not categorically opposed to the final plot twist. I actually think, thematically, it makes a fair amount of sense, given how many other dreamscapes and mind-dives we've seen. What I'm opposed to is having it drop in the final episode, when there's no time to deal emotionally with any of it. If you wanted to pull that Inception shit, you should've done it at least halfway through the series. Give poor Jiang Shuo multiple episodes to deal with the truths that a) everyone he loves (minus one person) is a figment of his imagination, b) he is ultimately the one responsible for the horrors he has created, and c) he will have to decide in the end whether to live in the delusion or to destroy it by leaving. Let him wrestle with what he knows vs. what he feels. Give him plenty of time to deal with his guilt about what he's done to Qin'er. That would be delicious. That's not what we got.
Also, you've got to telegraph it, like, at all. As it is, I wondered for a while there whether something weird/bad happened, the real last episode got destroyed, and they had to hastily film an alternate ending. I am all but certain, on reflection, this is not what happened. There are just enough clues planted earlier that, yeah, I'm pretty sure this was the end they meant all along.
Which was such a bad decision. You know all those mysteries you were interested in, the ones driving the plot? Congratulations! You're never going to know! And it's not because the show got canceled or otherwise truncated -- no, it's because the show decided to tell you outright that those mysteries were never meant to be solved. It's a riddle that never had an answer in the first place.
I said at the time that the end feels exactly like an anime that got too far ahead of the manga, ran out of source material, and had to cobble together an ending that wouldn't spoil the manga's eventual logical conclusion. That's not quite what happened, but it's exactly the vibe.
(Not to get too spoilery of other properties here, but yeah, you realize this was the same guy who made Sand Sea, and that actually makes a lot of sense. Speaking of things that ran out the source material...)
My instinct is to tell people not to watch the last episode, to just stop at the end of 35 and make up your own stories about what comes next, but ... you kind of have to see it to believe it. It's worth it for the sheer audacity that would consider this a good ending.
I've seen plenty of people on various sites saying they loved the ending while clamoring in the same breath for a second season. No, friends, you're having the same reaction I did -- you know a twist like that should not be a last-minute drop. It's not a setup for anything; it's what happens when you can't stick the landing, so you throw out a bunch of impressive-sounding nonsense while pretending that was what you'd meant to do all along. A second season wouldn't solve the mysteries, because the show has declared that not only won't they be solved, they weren't even mysteries in the first place. They were fancy shiny meaningless things that made the plot go, and you were stupid for being invested in them.
And by "mysteries" here, I mean the actual things that are being held up as mysterious and in need of a solution, like Liu Zhi's identity and the Yin River treasures and what happened to Papa Qin. I don't mean the things like wtf is going on with Moustache Dad and his weird semi-k*kistan flag -- because those are just fun bits of magical realism worldbuilding. Clearly this is all operating in some urban fantasy next-world-over scenario, where we're in, uhhh, Zhanghai, Zhina. It's real-world enough that we still have the British and the Japanese, but fake enough that whatever was going on with that hypnotism clock and the lake monster skeleton? Totally normal.
I guess that's part of what I find so frustrating, that it made such an interesting world to play around in ... and then took the cop-out "it was all a dream!" explanation. All the trauma and deaths you felt sad about? Irrelevant. All the friends in danger? Who cares! All the stakes you thought mattered? Meaningless. What, you want new stakes to care about? Well, we'd love to, but the last episode's ending. Bye!
Anyway! Frustrating but compelling! I have now burned so many more brain cells on this show than it deserves, and I will probably continue burning more for fanfic purposes. If you made it this far into this nonsense -- both the show and this post -- I salute you.

Hi Hunxi, I got on the audiodrama train because of your recommendations, and I wonder if you have a) voice actors with performances you really like and b) separately, found performers with a voice you really like (but sadly they may not done have a lot of work in that voice)?
ANON!!! YOU'RE REALLY OUT HERE ASKING THE QUESTIONS OF MY DREAMS!!!
first of all, deeply flattered that you've taken my incoherent yelling as recommendation and joined me on this train. I spend all my time here now and I'm pretty unbearable to talk to because unfortunately all I care about are Chinese voice actors these days
secondly, I feel like I should also mention the 综艺 variety show 《我是特优声》 / Voice Monster on bilibili because this show really sent me off the deep end when it came to voice actor fandom. previously I was like “oh yeah audiodramas are neat!” and after watching this show I stopped caring about anything else oops. since is the first variety show of its kind (they were trying to figure out what competitive voice acting should look like as they went rip), it’s definitely got its rough patches (and no money) but the contestants are hilarious and the judges lovely and there’s generally a wonderful atmosphere of mutual support and dedication to their art
a list of some of my favorite voice actors who were contestants on season 1 of 《特优声》:
锦鲤 Jin Li: this man’s RANGE. I think about his dub-over performance of 《罗小黑战记》 / The Legend of Hei constantly, and I love his (team’s) version of 《金乌》! I also loved him in the AD of 《师弟还不杀我灭口》, the donghua of 《天宝伏妖录》 (he’s in the AD too, I just haven’t gotten around to it), and as Aluojin in both the donghua and AD of 《烈火浇愁》. I’m currently debating on whether I want to go in on one of his currently-airing AD’s 《深渊巨龙苏醒以后》... look I’m aware I have a problem, and it’s that I love him
歪歪 (张福正)Waiwai (Zhang Fuzheng): what a sweet devilish chaos agent. my favorite performances of his are  《穿越火线》, which is was all sorts of stupid cute, and my jaw literally dropped when watching his 《黑白无双》 because I didn’t know he had that range?? I’ve been trying to find an AD of his to listen to but haven’t found one to my taste quite yet
赵乾景 Zhao Qianjing: when he showed up on 《特优声》, all the other contestants were like “why is HE here, he should be a judge” and honestly? they weren’t wrong. my favorite performance of his is definitely 《热情似火》, and my favorite AD of his is 《哏儿》 where he and Xie Tiantian LITERALLY do 相声. also, he can sing
亚捷 Ya Jie: used to be a professional backup dancer before switching over into voice acting?? how is he so cool?? 亚捷 has such a unique, gravelly voice that makes it hard for him to be cast as main roles (but REALLY easy to identify whenever he voices side characters). I’m holding out hope for him to get a good role!!!
a list of industry greats, who most people have heard before even if they don’t know their names:
边江 Bian Jiang: most people know him as the voice director of 《陈情令》 and the voice of CQL!Lan Wangji, among many, many other leading roles. what most people might not know is that he’s really good at comedy! haven’t explored his works in depth, but I did enjoy him in the donghua of 《天宝伏妖录》 and the AD  《问鹿三千》
姜广涛 Jiang Guangtao: also a VERY distinctive voice in the industry; most people probably know him as the voice of donghua Xie Lian in 《天官赐福》, though I personally prefer his Sheng Lingyuan in the donghua adaptation of 《烈火浇愁》. He’s also in the AD 《问鹿三千》, which is really a wildly stacked audiodrama
夏磊 Xia Lei, 谢添天 Xie Tiantian, 柯暮卿 Ke Muqing, and 鹏小胖 Peng Xiaopang: putting the 音熊联萌 VoiceBear Alliance mischief-makers together — Xia Lei has a lovely, distinctive voice (check him out in the 《千秋》 or 《天涯客》 AD’s), and Xie Tiantian is incredibly versatile (check him out in 《天涯客》  or 《哏儿》, also doing 相声). I have a special soft spot for Ke Muqing: he is, hands down, my favorite voice director and he has such a gremlin laugh behind the scenes (check him out in 《千秋》  or 《双杀》). meanwhile, Peng Xiaopang isn’t as well-known as the previous three, but his voice is truly very soothing (you can also spot him in 《双杀》, and as secondary characters in 《千秋》 and 《哏儿》). VoiceBear Alliance is one of my favorite voice acting studios because they’re all gremlins. all of them
吴磊 Wu Lei: THE 低音炮 baritone of the industry, you probably know him as Yan Wushi from 《千秋》 or Shen Qingqiu from the 《人渣》 donghua. also plays Chen Budao in the 《判官》 AD to Zhao Qianjing’s Wen Shi. he’s actually such a sweet person, the 反差萌 at play is really funny
刘琮 Liu Cong: the smoky voice of the industry, I’ve heard him around here and there, usually playing parental or grandparental roles asdlfkajsd. meanwhile, the 《默读》 AD is one of the best adaptations in existence and I will happily die on this hill
杨天翔 Yang Tianxiang: he’s a recent discovery of mine despite being very well-established in the industry! his performance as Fei Du in 《默读》 is absolutely outstanding, and I recently binged (and I don’t. binge. shows) the microseries 《你好喵室友》 just because he was in it. I haven’t explored his oeuvre but it’s only a matter of time because as far as I’m concerned he can do whatever he wants and I’d probably go for it
金弦 Jin Xian: okay I REALLY haven’t gone into his AD’s much but I heard him as 诗人 / the Poet in the 《小蘑菇》 AD and I’ve been obsessed with his voice since. WHAT the heck
anyway, these voice actors are pretty established in the industry; if you threw a rock, you’d probably hit at least three of their roles aldkfjaldskj
lastly, some of my favorite voice actors I’ve run into just by blundering around 猫耳FM:
路扬 (路扬君) Lu Yang: so far I haven’t found any AD’s with him as the lead, but this man’s range??? you can spot him in supporting roles in both the AD’s 《师弟还不杀我灭口》 and 《督主有病》, and his 直播间 livestreams on 猫耳 are fun too
倒霉死勒 (吴韬) Dao Mei Si Le / Wu Tao: this boy can ACT, my god. I’ve listened to 《督主有病》 and 《海中爵》, and he’s phenomenal in both!
瀚墨 Han Mo: I think I’m late to Han Mo because he’s more on the film side of things, but I enjoyed his performance thoroughly in 《师弟还不杀我灭口》, and if I’m not mistaken he plays Ao Bing in 《哪吒之魔童降世》 (haven’t seen it, keep meaning to, you know how it goes)
there’s a dearth of ladies in this post, and while I could gush about 季冠霖 Ji Guanlin and 冯俊华 Feng Junhua and 龟娘 Gui Niang, I want to finish watching 《我是特优声·剧团季》 the second season of Voice Monster first, because there are a lot more voice actors there and I want to learn about more of their work!!

my three fengqing fics
i hope we're still friends, yeah
tags: smut, porn with plot, feelings realization, getting together
summary:
“Mu Qing, can I-” Feng Xin starts, voice low, still staring at Mu Qing’s lips, and Mu Qing feels the hunger overtake him, so he leans down, grabs Feng Xin roughly by his collar, and he takes.
The kiss is like a rush of adrenaline. Feng Xin is burning lines into his skin as they grip onto each other desperately, hands constantly in motion and spilling out across shoulders, spine, hips- like an animal clawing at whatever it can find. Feng Xin’s mouth is devastatingly warm, and Mu Qing loses himself in the crash of their lips, raging as their tongues fight between their mouths, closing his eyes and letting Feng Xin’s fingers rake across his wet hair.
i love you so (please let me go)
tags: hurt/comfort, mq centric, character study, implied/referenced child prostitution, getting together
summary:
Mu Qing grips his brush tight, and with careful hands he writes on his paper, swift and clear. He does not allow his hands to shake, despite the feeling that flutters like swirling leaves right below his lungs; this moment is special, and it is the most important thing that Mu Qing has done in weeks, and it must be perfect.
He does not hesitate. He has thought about what he wants to write for months now, between scrubbing and sweeping and dressing His Highness with gentle fingers.
Please give me a friend.
His own handwriting reads up at him, smooth and innocent on the paper. Mu Qing trembles, breath caught in his throat as he looks down at his own words.
(or: 5 times mu qing lit a lantern for feng xin and one time feng xin did for mu qing <3)
see how the hands go? waving goodbye
tags: character death, grief, mourning, angst, getting together
summary:
“A-Xin,” There is a deep grief in Mu Qing’s words, lips curling up in shattered irony. “You win.”
The air is still.
Win? Feng Xin does not feel like a winner. He is losing, he is losing, and there is nothing victorious about this moment; a god sitting in the dirt, stained with blood, biting back tears as life takes and takes and takes.
“Don’t die.” Mu Qing tells him, words wry, but his lips are twisted, and a few silent tears whisper down his cheeks. Feng Xin has not seen Mu Qing cry in over 800 years. He cannot breathe.
Mu Qing’s eyes close.
Mu Qing does not get up again.
(or: Mu Qing does not make it out of Mount Tong'lu, and Feng Xin falls apart.)

hc: muqing and fengxin deep down felt like absolute shit for leaving xie lian in the past so they make amends in their own way present time
despite the trio having lots of arguments and overall being kinda dysfunctional on an emotional basis in the past, we all know the three of them really care for one another. (or enough to not want anyone to die)
so, i had this thought that what if the reason feng xin and mu qing disguised as fu yao and nan feng was to BE there for him. we can see that throughout the novel both as their disguises or themselves, they follow him through pretty much everything after his third ascension.
we’ve had many instances where fengqing were protective of him, easy example being when they saw hua cheng as san lang for the first time.
they protected and cared for him in their (aggressive) ways because maybe, they felt guilty for leaving him despite swearing loyalty to him all those years ago (also because genuine affection for him) and want to make up for it by following him throughout in present time, helping him out etc.

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH PSYCH HUNTER 心宅猎人
I AM BACK!!! WITH ANOTHER WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH!!!
You guys know how much I lurveeee Republican era crime thrillers whatever, so I bring y’all Psych Hunter! Set in the Republican era, this is a crime thriller thing that reminds me of 1. MRIAD A BIT with a quarter dose of 2. TLTR, and yes the best part of these three shows is the half bromance although it definitely isn’t AS pronounced here, but it certainly sweetens the deal of watching this.
Tumblr media
Summary: Jiang Shuo is a feng shui master and real estate broker who can enter people’s psych (a bit like Sherlock’s mind palace, or maybe Inception-esque worlds in people’s consciousness), who gets arrested for real estate fraud across three people who died after buying the houses. He meets psychology expert and doctor Qin Yiheng, who is currently consulting with the police station on cases. There he also meets Yuan Muqing, a police officer who is great at martial arts. With his skill of ‘reading minds’ or actually ENTERING someone’s dream/mind scape, he can see what they’re trying to hide etc.
A year ago, Jiang Shuo woke up without any memories of who he was before, and he and his two new friends solve cases set in front of them by mastermind Liu Zhi (six fingers), as he also tries to get his memories back.
*The official summary also mentions that he was one of 7 people who entered a haunted house of sorts and was the only one to come out alive before he was found with all his memories lost.
Based on a novel called 凶宅笔记.
Total Eps: 36 | Playing on iQiyi offiically, but available on other usual sites I think
Why I like this:
If you like Republican era shows, this is definitely another one for you!! Plus case-solving, albeit a little different than usual
This is canonically het, i.e. Jiang Shuo is supposed to end up with Yuan Muqing, but the harmless and fun bromance between Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng is quite hilarious and nice to see - They hold hands A LOT (out of necessity) hahaha and when Jiang Shuo jokingly told Qin Yiheng that he looks better without glasses, the man really dumps his glasses HAHAHA
Did I also mention that Jiang Shuo looks cute af, and Qin Yiheng for all his sternness and bravado is a baby - Anyway they’re pretty nice to look at, way handsomer than they look in the poster
It has the same-ish setting as MRIAD, but the creepiness factor of TLTR every other episode, ERMMM a bit of The Nun vibes cuz there really is a nun in there for one of the cases, and zombies and weird shit (it’s a dreamscape so hahaha)
Cinematography/framing/shots aren’t half bad which I mean is actually pretty good, although they should work a tad bit on makeup and like props (a mirror was formed with aluminium foil YOU CAN LITERALLY SEE IT)
It’s not the most brilliant in terms of script or the cases, and some of the deductions made by QYH or the rest of the police force are, admittedly, pretty lame. But the focus I suppose is on the supernatural/inception part of it, which is pretty interesting.
I also regretted watching this at night hmmm
Characters:
1. Jiang Shuo
Smartass feng shui expert and real estate broker. Carries a string of coins and bells everywhere he goes. Amnesiac bb who is a little hot-headed but very intelligent, obviously dislikes Qin Yiheng on first sight (even though they meet while QYH is trying to save him), but sort of affectionately calls him Qin Er (as in the second Qin son). Has already fainted twice in the first two episodes, and gotten hurt in the third, I LIKE HOW THIS IS GOING. There’s quite a bit of whump for him hahaha.
Tumblr media
Him and his coin thingys:
Tumblr media
2. Qin Yiheng
He also went to Cambridge (against his dad’s wishes) and has an older brother. Is a doctor by degree and also psychologist by profession. Helping out with the police station now where he’s friends with the chief. He’s roped into this whole mess with Jiang Shuo for some reason by mastermind Liu Zhi as well, who has kidnapped his father. So in order to find out who Liu Zhi is and rescue his dad, he has to work together with Jiang Shuo.
If you watch this for like his deduction skills, you’re totally out of luck tho, that’s not the point of this show (and frankly the deduction is a bit sad), but he’s rich, dresses well, has an air about him, and has chemistry with Jiang Shuo hahaha.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His side-eye and almost eye-roll whenever he deals with JS:
Tumblr media
And yes Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng forever bickering, but Qin Yiheng has already rescued Jiang Shuo twice, and also sat by his bedside while waiting for Jiang Shuo to wake up - Also a lot of hand holding while they’re in the dreamscapes
Tumblr media
Cute buddies in crime:
Tumblr media
3. Yuan Muqing
Aside from whoever chose to dub her and make her sound like a kid, her role in this one is pretty cute! Cool martial arts policewoman who crushes hard on Qin Yiheng first and then decides she actually likes Jiang Shuo more. Hot-headed too, but very likeable.
Tumblr media
---
Anyway it’s a pretty light but thrilling show to watch so far!! Definitely not the most interesting in terms of cases, but the chemistry between the three characters above are pretty much on point! Plus the whole creepy factor and large conspiracy behind is definitely driving me to finish this. Banter between QYH and JS is great too hehe.

i decided to make this a list of characters i’ve fallen in love with during this year bc otherwise it would be way too hard to decide. prepare yourself for a lot of rambling bc my heart is an ocean and i can only float in it aimlessly as well as song recommendations bc those are a must! (vish making things about music? unheard of)
tagging: @i-am-just-a-kiddo @ashenlights @zhanqzhehan @underaswift-sunrise @jaecomments @s1utspeare and @xiejie-liubo ♥ no pressure getting this thoroughly into this or at all and if you’ve done this already, please ignore me :’D
my faves under the cut~
Hei Xiazi / DMBJ
Tumblr media
(live footage of hei xiazi jumping out of a coffin and straight into my heart like the menace he is)
ok so this might have a lot to do with liu yuning playing the role but i have just found a totally new love for hei xiazi after ultimate note. while i was talking to ashen the other day, i came to the realization that hxz has become my new favorite character in the whole world of dmbj. he is just... there’s a lot of inside of him that makes me curious. behind that goofy smile, stupid jokes, posing, leather jackets, sunglasses and attitude acres wide, i see many mysteries i am very keen on solving. he’s an interesting character that leaves a lot of space for headcanons, and i’ve crafted a couple of those myself. i see a lot of fragility behind his confidence, though i also think that he’s extremely strong in many aspects. he’s gone through a lot and survived, and despite his smiles, he has his burden to carry. he’s surprisingly kind and caring despite his harder edges. he’s selfless despite pretending otherwise. he’s loyal and trustworthy and in this essay i will-
Kamikaze by Night Argent x
Qin Yiheng / Psych-Hunter
Tumblr media
(my best boys on their moonlit date. this is my fave scene in the whole drama. also shows off the amazing costuming)
after being absolutely enamored by jiang shuo (bc of hou minghao and his ridiculously pretty face), it didn’t take me long to fall in love with qin yiheng. this boy is an absolute gay disaster and i love him for it. he makes my heart ache with his puppy eyes. he is so, so in love with jiang shuo, and even if his devotion to him is explained in other ways, i will never believe anything else. he would give his life for jiang shuo. meanwhile, he ignores most of his own emotions and worries and doesn’t talk about them, making me hurt. there is so much queer coding to his story. all his struggles with his family hit me really close. he’s lovely. i’m happy jiang shuo and muqing return his devotion in the end, especially when his and jiang shuo’s quest turns upside down and qin yiheng becomes the sole focus of the story for once (i keep juggling between wanting a second season and being absolutely terrified of how badly they could ruin that bc some of the plot already makes zero sense)
In Time by Koste x
Sui Zhou / The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty
Tumblr media
(sui zhou is just a house husband who wishes to cook for his husband and their adoptive daughter and their misfit group of friends-become-family)
when i started watching tsomd, i didn’t expect to fall in love with anyone. listening to my dear kiddo talk about this drama and their feelings on it, i didn’t really see anything else to grasp on but the found family aspect. i expected to maybe adore tang fan a little and otherwise just enjoy the ride. jokes on me, sui zhou hit me like a train. he absolutely wrecked me, and am currently circling around the suitang pit that is threatening to swallow me up. but sui zhou is just... he is so selfless somehow? those he loves could ask him to jump off a cliff and he would ask how high the cliff should be. there’s zero hesitation in him when it comes to keeping ppl safe. he’s strong and soft at the same time and his inability to face his emotions while drowning in them is making me ache. there are some aspects to his character that i do not enjoy (his obvious distaste towards the oirat ppl for example bc that’s very prejudiced of you my guy) but i still love him with my whole chest. i just wish him happiness. i just wish him to see that he is worthy of not being in pain.
Demons on the Side of My Bed by Teflon Sega x
Hao Du / The Long Ballad
Tumblr media
(he looks so pretty ok. after ultimate note, am absolutely ecstatic to see liu yuning’s beautiful eyes doing things)
with tlb, it’s very hard to choose a favorite character out of everyone when they have so much good in them. but bc liu yuning was my reason to start this drama, i have to say hao du. my precious, broken boy hao du. from the moment i first saw him in the drama, with his stoic face and pinched eyebrows and proud 188cm(?) of height, i was in love with him. i have never cried this easily over one character. there were scenes where hao du was merely present and i was just sobbing bc he’s so good. i loved his and leyan’s storyline, which slowly turned into hao du finding his place among ppl that care about and accept him (i loved his and wei shuyu’s grudgingly sprouting friendship around leyan the most. this is how my ot3 was born and you can pry it from my cold, dead fingers). he had so many doubts of himself, and his tendency to appear scary bc ppl had always reacted to him with fear tore me apart. it was wonderful to see him grow soft over leyan and his love for her. it was wonderful to see him accept that being scary-looking didn’t mean that he was a bad person. his smile melts my heart. he should smile more :’)
눈 Snow by SURL (설) x
Cao Weining / Word of Honor
Tumblr media
(just look at those eyes!!)
my sunshine boy! my starry-eyed son!! the best human puppy out there!! ah gosh i love him. he is just so pure? he had to smile once at a-xiang and i was sold. his love for her, his devotion and loyalty and purse adoration, his strong as all hell first love for this wild girl he once met in a tavern, is just everything to me. i was terrified that the show would ruin his character to me with some weird jealousy bullshit but cao weining always delivered. he stayed true to himself until the very end. i adored it how soft and sappy he was, how kind he was to everyone, how he became to adore wenzhou and chengling too and was just so, so proud to have a-xiang by his side. i ached for him and his devastating smiles a lot. i cried for him being just so horribly sweet and breaking a-xiang with it. he would’ve deserved everything and i am so terribly sad that his final happiness was taken from him through a betrayal that absolutely shattered his heart right before his end.
紙船 by Joker Xue and Yisa Yu x
Bo Ya / The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity
Tumblr media
(he is the most beautiful man out there. i still remember how i was watching this movie for the first time and texted kiddo that i would be dying if boya let his hair down and guess what happened in the next scene :D)
i think boya being here might also have something to do with the fact that i am just very much in love with deng lun. but even without that, i just love yuan boya so much. i don’t even know how to describe him exactly? he is very stubborn, first and foremost. he chooses to believe into one thing and he could die for his beliefs but he is also one for doubt and critique. when met with qingming, he doubts and feels absolutely puzzled bc the other man doesn’t fit anything he’s learned in his life. it’s interesting to see how he comes into terms with that puzzlement and then decides that he adores it. he is so loyal once he decides that someone is worthy of his loyalty. i loved seeing how his distaste turned into adoration. i loved seeing how his stoic demeanor slowly cracked and we got to even witness some joking from him at the end of the movie. he’s wonderful and so graceful and i could write poetry out of how beautiful he is. he is a protector and i am glad that he found a companion in qingming.
心動 by Liu Yuning x
Li Jia / The Journey Across the Night
Tumblr media
(he is a puppy. i have no idea how zsx has such a puppy face but he does. i adore him.)
i have talked about this before but i absolutely adore it how kind li jia is. his determination and desperation to help other ppl, to reassure them, guide them, support them, feel for them and understand them is very admirable to me. he is so ready to help even a total stranger bc he sees ppl’s pain. he feels their pain as his own. and bc of this he bleeds: he takes his own heart and rips it right open and bleeds love onto everybody he comes across even if he lacks love for himself. he’s terrified of hurting ppl accidentally, and i think i saw something of myself in that. i have never felt so much for a character or adored a drama this much. i will always have a place in my heart for li jia. especially for the scene where he finally understands that his life is not destined to go to hell; that he can affect his own future. that he can be happy and take strength from other ppl. that his sickness doesn’t dictate his life and can be turned over. that he is not broken rather than he is just a human. i love him so much. i wish, sometimes, that i can be someone like him.
Kansas by Talos x
Teng She / Love and Redemption
Tumblr media
(his sassiness is so delightful and his actor does so well with all the snake mannerisms, it’s so clever)
i was not left with much once i finally finished watching lnr. i did like sifeng a lot but him getting hurt over and over again became a bit boring towards the end. the main lady (whose name i have conveniently forgotten) was someone i did not care about at all. the romance between her and sifeng had so many aspects that made me gag that i didn’t really root for them either (tho i was happy they got their happiness in the end, good for them). but teng she was an absolute delight amongst everyone. his snarky comments and bickering with the main lady made me so fond (also his love for sifeng? the best). he was a total disaster but i liked him more bc of it. his struggle between his growing fondness for his friends and his duty to the heaven and its king made a great conflict and following that was actually interesting. i hope we could’ve seen more of him. i hope we could’ve seen more about his and the green dragon’s relationship bc those two were so obviously going somewhere and i think the green dragon was having a big, fat crush and. i don’t blame him. as said, teng she is a delight. he’s so pretty. i would adore him too if he was bothering me every day and existed at a grabbing distance.
Rosario by Epik High ft. CL, ZICO x
Jiang Yuelou / Killer and Healer
Tumblr media
(am glad that he got to smile despite everything sob)
my therapist asked me, back when i was talking about killer and healer to her bc what else would i blabber about than my various dramas, if there is a character in this one that i relate to. back then i very smoothly lied that it’s chen yuzhi bc of his kindness. right after that session i came to realize however that it’s actually this bastard. jiang yuelou, as disastrous and, at times, horrible as he is, has some aspects i can recognize in myself. he even has some of the insecurities and fears. he is an absolutely horrible cop and i doubt he actually enjoys his job that much but he wants to do good. he is loyal to a fault, loves to death, fights for justice (at least his own idea of justice). he’s fierce and smart and resourceful, and i remember admiring his persistence. i wish his anger and other emotions wouldn’t have clouded his mind so much. he would’ve deserved his happiness with those he cared about and not as much pain as he was finally put through for his own ambitions. he is an interesting character and i think his many sides and flaws made him someone that caught my attention.
Strangers by TAEMIN x
Xie Xiaoman / Time Flies and You Are Here
Tumblr media
(using one of the promotional pics bc am lazy. and she looks lovely in this :’) this whole drama looks super lovely tbh, i keep giving hearteyes to the sets and outfits)
the only lady on this list which is probably sad but the things i consume these days offer very few women that stick with me. xie xiaoman is an exception, even if i never could’ve predicted this. ppl have probably figured by now how much i love and hate time flies as a drama but it has just been so interesting to follow. it has moments that get me groaning and moaning and i have almost lost my faith in humanity at least a dozen time watching this but then there are moments that feel good? moments that feel brilliant??? and xiaoman has had many of those. i like it how she actually talks back to the prince (zeng shunxi’s character) and puts him to his place. i like it how she addresses all these difficulties and injustice the women of her society face. she’s from a poor family and doesn’t have the social status to actually do much about things but she doesn’t care. she’s vocal about the pain she and other women feel. she wants to be her own lord. she wants to give that strength to other women too and be a proper part of the society bc that’s what she deserves despite being a woman. i admire her for that, tho sometimes i am also frustrated with her bc in the end, he gives in to the prince. i get it tho; she’s in love with him. as much of a wreck as their relationship is (i keep telling kiddo that they tear each other apart and that their love destroys them), i get it that she can see the good in it too. they could be happy if not for the circumstances. i don’t think i still support them getting together bc the prince is an absolute ass but i feel her hesitation. it’s hard to let go of something like that even if it hurts.
Summer Clouds by How Great Were the Robins x
Honorary mentions: Gu Xiang and Ye Baiyi from Word of Honor, Wang Zhi from The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, Mi Rou from Anti-Fraud League and Gene from Lovely Writer.
if anyone dares to point out that i have a type when it comes to characters i love, i’ll just answer that i pretend i do not see it. my so already tells me all the time that my type is “twinks” and am just,,, ok. ok i admit. but i still pretend i do not see it. don’t come at me and my tragic twink sons
this was so much fun. thank you if you read this far ^^ have a wonderful day ♥

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 5
Submission: Hye, can you give some spoiler about Muqing. Im currently on eng tl and now I just hate him so much as I felt really bad for dianxia. But some people in twitter said that he is actually a good boy!! Please spoil me in about that particular scene in b5... Thank you in advance
my answer!!:
omg sending this through submissions might completely destroy my answer because tumblr is trash but anyways
the thing about MQ is, well, pretty much said so in this post by my friend sev!!! pls read it it’s really well worded
but ANYWAYS!! about the scene you mentioned: at that point MQ was like hanging off a sword (?) and was about to fall into lava so he’s desperate because right before neither FX not XL believe he’s genuine so he tries explaining himself and ends with:
“I...admire you. I really want to be your f-f-friend.”
I think the best part about this is afterwards FX mocks him, saying “Didn’t you want to be his f-f-friend?” AHAHAHHAHA

the new boyhood 官推s (company assigned ships) are so interesting to me bc these are pairings that so few people were invested in. like, 江梁一梦 (xinxi/shiyu) is popular for being 2/3 of the xinxi-shiyu-tan yitian group, 鑫心相尹 (xinhao/junlan) were inseparable for the entirety of asy, and now??
these days they've been promoting xinxi/junlan, shiyu/muqing and xinhao/dianjia in promo photos and video content etc.
the first one i can get if you think about their friendship (when they were on 发光的名字, yuehua's in-company survival show that never got aired, they were pretty close too) (fun fact! quanzhe and haolian were both on the show too)
shiyu and muqing are also pretty popular together. imo xinhao and dianjia are just together bc dianjia is chronically straight and they were left ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
like, the new pairings are okay? they have their own fanbases i guess even if they're small. i can even get not promoting xinxi/shiyu anymore. but why would yuehua give up xinhao/junlan. is this bc of loong9

Get To Know Me
Why did you choose your url?
Uh, it's something @trans-muqing said. I liked it so I changed my url. That was at least 6 months ago, most likely more.
Any side-blogs? If you have them, name them and why you have them.
Yes, I have one @want-to-be-moonmoon. It's just where I post stuff that's fandom-related. Basically, it functions as my second blog. By the way, user @/moonmoon please give me your url.
How long have you been on tumblr?
Uhm. I made my blog more than two years ago, deactivated once early on, and now here we are.
Do you have a queue tag?
Yes! When my blog pretty much ran on a queue, i did. Now I don't do that anymore because it's exhausting.
Why did you start your blog in the first place?
Because @fengxingf told me to. Well, more like continuously brought it up to me for 3 months. And then I did. And I love them for it.
Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
Man, Look. It's pretty and it's blue and I don't like changing things.
Why did you choose your header?
Clouds :pleading:. Once again, blue, pretty, and I don't like changing things.
What’s your post with the most notes?
Don't know, don't care.
How many people do you follow?
Seventy. I follow people a lot, but then go through intense purges every month or so.
Have you ever made a shitpost?
No. That's sunny's job.
How often do you use tumblr?
Around an hour a day.
Did you have a fight/argument with a blog once? who won?
No. Well, yes? With jack and sunny back in august. It was about a tinkerbell fairy au vs. a faerie au. No one won because it was just shenanigans.
How do you feel about ‘you need to reblog this post’?
God. Literally just shut the fuck up. Wait that was too rude. They're annoying, it's just sucky anxiety because you don't reblog. Most of the times whenever I see that phrase I just scroll and skim through the post :sob:.
Do you like tag games?
Depends. When the mutuals I interact with and partners tag me, then yes.
Do you like ask games?
Yes, but I don't reblog a lot because I don't get too many asks.
Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
Nah.
Do you have a crush on a mutual?
I mean I got to know all of them through discord so, I'm confused. Maybe?

You've made it clear before that you have nothing but love and respect for the Huanyue disciples. What are some of your favorite moments featuring them?
sldkfjsldjfk all of you 《千秋》 anons emerging from the woodwork... y'all really like making me rank things huh
okay okay here are a few of moments off the top of my head:
absolutely the betting scene with Yu Shengyan and the housekeeper - I don't really respond much to media (never have I ever cried watching a movie, etc), so the fact that this conversation made me laugh out loud says quite a lot. It's such a lovely, lighthearted interlude where Yu Shengyan demonstrates how clever he is (deducing his way to a conclusion about what his shizun and Shen-daozhang must be up to now with very sound logic!) while definitively proving that he is both a fool and a dumbass (he deduced his way to the wrong answer oh honey. hope you're ready to lose that bet).
Bian Yanmei's "沈姐姐" - this is a cheap shot and I know it, but that time when Shen Qiao and Bian Yanmei are infiltrating the imperial rear palace and Shen Qiao is alarmed like, "wait no one told me I had to crossdress for this mission," and Bian Yanmei, cool as a cucumber, doesn't bat an eye and goes "don't worry, I have to crossdress too so we're in this together, also Shen-jiejie am I pretty?" and I just. love one (1) competent Huanyue disciple with the only brain cell in the entire narrative, who is truly just living his best life
Yu Shengyan rolling up to the sword conference and calling Shen Qiao 师弟 shidi, in front of everyone's salads - all of my favorite Yu Shengyan moments are of him being a fool apparently, but he's a fool in most of his scenes and I love him despite that (because of it? unclear). Anyway I lost it when I read this scene because at this point, Yu Shengyan has been absent for like, a solid eighty chapters and then he just strolls up to a very tense sword conference rife with jianghu politics, trampling blithely over everything and everyone to make a bee-line for Shen Qiao and repeatedly calling him shidi before illustrious jianghu figures like Yi Pichen, Zhao Chiyin, Gu Hengbo, and everyone else's salads. It gets even funnier because as the scene progresses, it's quite obvious that Yu Shengyan has no idea what he's doing here, shizun just told him to show up and help Shen-daozhang so Yu Shengyan is here, helping Shen-daozhang as best as he can, wait, what do you mean you're not gunning for the position as head of the alliance, what else am I supposed to help you with???
basically I think every day about someone asking Ke Muqing in the audiodrama season 2 完结FT why he likes Yu Shengyan as a character, and Ke Muqing, the literal director of the audiodrama and voice of Yu Shengyan, goes "I like him because... though he has his moments of small cleverness sometimes, he truly is just a 小憨憨" (而我也是...一个小憨憨 Ke Muqing PLEASE)
honorable mention goes to the first time Bian Yanmei meets Shen Qiao, shortly after Shen Qiao has straight up Killed A Man outside Chang'an (it's okay, Bian Yanmei also wanted to kill said man and didn't mind that Shen Qiao did the work for him), because Yan Wushi has done his level best to give Bian Yanmei the wrong impression of their relationship, and Bian Yanmei is a smart cookie and has been staying tuned to jianghu gossip so internally he's like could the rumors be true??? has Shen Qiao really become shizun's bedwarmer??? but then he and Shen Qiao talk for like three minutes and Bian Yanmei is savvy enough to deduce his way to the correct conclusion (unlike his 憨憨 shidi) while making very courteous conversation
anyway I love the Huanyue disciples with my entire heart

Mixed Media
As a non-white-passing mixed person, I have lived my life with a constant need to explain myself. I am not in the most conventional position in society, and therefore it can be hard to understand. I made this project to combat many of the ideas that surround mixed race people. Many of these ideas serve to benefit people who are avoidant of thinking, talking, or learning about race. I think it is important to make a nation that has prophesied its own future to be racially ambiguous brown-ness that understanding of race is not a temporary necessity.
I did my research by reading the writings of people who study and seek to understand race, including Ta-Nehisi Coates, Rachel Cargle, and Muqing M. Zhang. I also looked on social media at different instances of mixed identity (fake and real)—including the criticism of those who have used racially ambiguous aesthetics to further their careers and ride trends. I also talked to mixed people and people in mixed relationships around me.
There is definitely a tension around mixed identity. It makes people uncomfortable for many different reasons—the slightly westernized look mixed people can have that gives them different privileges from white people and non-mixed people of color, the lack of easy categorization of mixed people, etcetera. Mixed people often have to come to an understanding of these tensions alone because mixed presentations are so varied and the cultures that mixed people have to reconcile are also varied. However, the mainstream view of race and miscegenation does not even attempt to show this nuance.
Miscegenation is often portrayed as post-racial and utopian, or at the very most detailed, hippie-dippy. From conservative to white liberal and white progressive, there is a perpetual narrative of a raceless future that people of color know will never exist. Mixed people, as people of color, do not serve to test or prove theories of post-raciality. Miscegenation has, in fact, historically dictated the opposite—the control white men had over women of color. This is just one example of the use of mixed people to misconstrue reality for white benefit.
I want to change the way people view mixed people to be more accurate and holistic. I have presented a flow of thoughts that help an incorrectly conditioned person understand mixed positioning more accurately. I then decided to show a list of mixed people that could be represented in media instead of those who manufacture their appearance to be mixed. I think that there is a lot of work to do to make media represent the reality of mixed people and people of color, this is just one idea. Miscegenation has a long history of pain and civil rights victories (i.e. the Loving decision), which definitely needs to be better addressed. I hope that non-mixed POC and white people can both see mixed people as an important demographic in the dismantling of systematic racist oppression, rather than an anomaly that helps or hurts racist arguments. I think in the future I would also like to address the way mixed and non-mixed POC are made to compete for success and approval in white systems, but this was a pretty good start.
