I rant about this periodically, but Namaniku ATK is distinctly one of those artists where you CANNOT get an impression of his character design chops from his work on FGO. when he's allowed to just show an author a full page of designs he did because he was so attracted to a character concept, that's when he does his best work

Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle Review

This is review number four hundred and twenty five. This anime is part of the Fall 2014 lineup, and it’s called Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle. It’s a ten episode anime about a girl trying to collect her dad’s body parts because, I dunno, some idiots chopped the dude up. It’s an awesome second season, read me gush about it below. Ms. Rin, I recently noticed that Ootori Kanae has clothing style similar to Watatsuki no Toyohime. Do you think Namaniku ATK was inspired by Toyohime when designing Kanae?

I don't think so, mainly because Cage in Lunatic Runagate (where the design with the dress you're thinking of first appeared) came out in 2009

we have a pretty good outline of the design process of kanae's outfit, so we can trace design elements like the belt along it. note the equivalent belt in the uniform designs!

one interesting example of this is namaniku mentioning the open front of kanae's skirt being a choice influenced by the medium, since he wanted to show her legs but knew they'd be offscreen with a long skirt

#also the aside about her hair originally being black #which was changed at namaniku's suggestion
