You know, I think I'm starting to understand why the sharing culture on this site is such dogshit now.

As I mentioned earlier in the week, I spent several solid hours going through my art and writing tags as far back as 2012 and manually deleting everything I found, including all of my own reblogs, because I don't expect my opt out from having my blogs' data scraped to be honoured, and seeing the difference in the way people interacted with my work back then and the way they interact with it now (or the way they don't interact with it at all, more specifically) was deeply and tragically enlightening.

tl;dr, despite having had a fraction of the followers back then that I have now, as well as being an objectively better artist and writer than I used to be 10+ years ago, my work travelled further and people engaged with it more, and they also sent me asks with drabble prompts and questions about my OCs all the time, whereas none of that happens at all anymore. This place was a lot more communal back in that pre-2016 era and generally a lot more rewarding and fun.

There's been plenty of posts going around over the last few years begging people to reblog because that's how this site works, but every one of those posts always winds up lousy with people saying they just click "Like" on things because they like them but not enough to put them on their own blog, or because they don't want to clutter their blog, or because tagging things is too much effort or whatever, and I'm noticing a pattern. There's something that all of these common responses have in common:

All of these people are wholly concerned with themselves and the way their blog looks, or what their blog is supposed to be for, or some other similarly entirely self-centred point of focus.

Listen. Other people have already tried to explain to you that that's not what this place is about or what this place is for or that you can make as many sideblogs as you want if you're trying to curate something specific, and they've had little success in emparting understanding to you, so I'm going to try a different approach.

Here are ten (10) benefits of reblogging that will make this site more fun and engaging for you, personally! ( b ._.)b

You get to keep the thing for yourself, but you also get to pass it along for other people to play with, too! Best of all worlds. How often do you get to keep a thing and share it?

Look in your Activity after you reblog something you enjoy to find other people who like the same things that you do! This is a terrific way to find new people to follow.

Sometimes you'll make a comment when you reblog something and later find that an awful lot of strangers are reblogging it from you directly for some reason. This is usually because someone else later down the line made a much stupider and worse comment and those strangers are now all clicking on your reblog so that they can reblog the post without that other person's stupider and worse comment on it. I like it a lot when this happens. You can get a lot of new followers this way, too!

Even if you don't have the time or spoons to play with jpegs like dolls yourself, your reblog can put the post in front of those folks who do. so uh, let's talk about that timeline yeah.

so the images in that look like the dolls from the 2nd leak, but pre-dates the first leak. because the first leak had almost an identical look to the final release minus the body coloring and was most likely a packaging test, but the cleo in these images is (from the low res jpegs we can see) completely different. and also we see FUCKING LAGOONA. WITH BLUE SKIN. I honestly don't know what to say about her. but we haven't seen any lagoona prototype/production images before so zoo wee fuckin mama

I don't even know the actual source for the 2nd image though heard vaguely something related to 12 days of fandom or smthn but the recent leaks just make them even more enigmatic cause how long ago? when? what? how? why? where? WHAT THE FUCK

also don't even know if there are differences between the 2nd leak dolls and the new image prototypes like my brain wants to say differences but we have so little detail it's impossible to tell.

and what's even crazier is we're finding these early production images of the dolls IN OFFICIAL STOCK PHOTOS IN A PLAYSET WITH THE FINAL VERSION OF ONE OF THE DOLLS when there's even a different released product that also has similar style taken photos but they're OF THE FINAL DOLLS ?!?!?!?!!!?

Here's a German news article about the hospital explosion in Gaza.

They clearly state here that not all details of Israel's explanation of events can be verified yet (these reporters don't just take Israel's version and run with it).

They are however consulting several international experts who are analysing all the photo and video material that can be found and at this point they say it's likely that Israel didn't do this or at least that they didn't target the hospital on purpose.

The material suggests that most likely it was a misfire or malfunction.

The twitter/X post that was going around claiming that Israel took credit for bombing Hamas near a hospital is apparently fake.

Another bit of false information is also that the bomb was an American built. Such facts have not been confirmed as of yet.

This doesn't help the victims. This doesn't lessen the pain and suffering. It doesn't make any of the other cruelties of this war okay.

If you've been reading my other posts about this war in the last few days you know I'm not on Israel's side.

I'm just begging you to stay informed by consulting multiple sources and not just scroll the tag here on tumblr.

If I've learned one thing it's that both sides lie on here. Both Hamas and Israel propaganda is being spread here often with no other source than a screenshot - and as "tumblr girlies who play with jpegs like they're dolls" we know how easily those can be faked.

Tumblr's tweaking the algorithm a little so when you search for dolls instead of things directly tagged #dolls (i use search because a lot of folks tag just the brands or #doll community) lately, things have changed.

//For background: there's always been at least one person a week who feels seen by Iris by the goo goo dolls; there are anime, cartoons with characters called doll or who are dolls, bands with doll in the name, Dolls was a character on Wynonna Earp. Black trans women who use the term dolls for eachother, female rappers and porno stars with a name that's xxxx doll. The dollette/coquette aesthetic folks. A dozen posts a day about mentally playing with characters like dolls and tumblr users playing with jpegs like dolls. There are the real doll sellers and owner personal blogs. Porcelain, ancient, reborns, clowns and plushies along with the small kpop plush dolls that expanded to many fandoms, a few folks selfies where they're 'dolled up' or enjoy being called doll. Some disturbing roleplay, some disturbing writings about children. The occasional 'barbie doll diet' ED tag.

As you can tell, vast subject. Takes some filtering to get what you're looking for. //

This past week or so, the search expanded and it's not to do with the words or tags used but the photos. The new arrivals are women wearing babydoll tops, women with large breasts (possibly very similar to posts usually tagged bimbo doll) and older women in bikinis. There are also eating disorder pictures unrelated to dolls that reuse photos previously tagged as dollette when uploaded to tumblr, the text is vague enough to not set off anything but finely tuned filters looking for abbreviations and expressions used by the ED communities.

I think tumblr is testing some kind of auto categorizer for pictures, maybe so it can suggest tags to users or suggest like minded tumblrs even if you don't tag your posts.

All that to say that if you have an ED, the dolls search page isn't entirely safe, if you have the ed not sheeran, and leet speak variations on pro ana tags you'll block those but not the untagged ones that are using pictures previously used for dollette/coquette. I have dollette muted but those posts showed up. No idea what's going on under the hood but if your triggers are serious, browse with caution and stick to a variety of tags instead of vaguer fandom or craft terms that could contain stuff you can't mute.

What's interesting is that this image categorizer may prove very helpful in the future with specific triggers like guns or clowns or flashing lights that often go untagged, it could be used to mute a picture and say 'may potentially contain flashing lights'. That would be very very good for this website's accessibility.

Either way, take care. Having a firefox tab open with your filtered content page while browsing a search term can help you quickly identify what you'd rather mute and put it in your settings without having to rescroll from the start.

i know this is only 3 minutes of gameplay but it feels so disjointed. like the worst thing an escape-room game can do is make most of the puzzles just code after code, since it never feels like you're actually doing puzzles, it just gets tedious. that's what this game has to do by design, and i don't think the cooperative nature will overcome that.

It’s a calm day on Tumblr. You are going about your usual business, blogging about your current fixation, playing with your jpeg dolls, life is good. As you’re enjoying your time, you hear a knock on your door. You glance up at the window and see a totally normal looking girl staring back through your window. She seems normal. Totally normal. You tuck your jpeg doll back into its folder and stand up to open the door. You look over her wordlessly as she says in a flat, demonic voice “Montana 🥵 GEMINI 🍆💦 Broke in to fuck your dad.” “How did you verbally say those emojis?” you ask. Her eyes roll back into her head, turning pure black. She lifts one hand and holds out a suspicious unmarked flashdrive. You stare at her for a long moment, uncomfortably shifting under her black gaze. You shut the door and lock it. You sit back down and send a message to the Tumblr leaders to shoot her down. You go back to your jpeg dolls, giving a meme cat a lovely place to sit for the entertainment of your mutuals. There is a soft buzzing from outside. You look up and no longer see the black eyed girl staring back at you. You sigh with relief.

Everything is fine for the next day. Black ooze seems to gather around the piles outside everyone’s doors. You return to your Tumblr Bloghome. You try to sit down and calmly play with your jpegs but cannot get that sight from your mind. Suddenly, there is a knock at the door. You freeze in place, knowing the horror that will ensue if you look up. Cautiously, you grab your phone to summon the drones and slowly look up, ready to summon them. You see a cute anime girl standing before your door. You sigh with relief and allow them to look through your jpegs, allowing them to take copies and enjoying the friendly presence. After they leave, you are back to being alone, staring fearfully to your door, holding the drone button tightly in your hand. A ‘totally normal girl’ walks up again and knocks. Without looking further, you press the button. Another one arrives. Without allowing her to show her black eyes and unusual emoji speech, you press the button again. More and more show up. You’re tense. Your drone finger cramped. You can hear the ungodly emoji speech mumbling from the growing pile of corpses outside. You need to sleep. You can’t sleep. The black ooze is now spreading past your door frame. They will not leave you alone. 

You board up your door and windows, leaving your bloghome private. Maybe that will keep them down for the night as you go and get some rest. 

You lay down, ready to finally sleep after your lovely day of jpeg dolls with a new friend, trying to ignore the horror you’ve witnessed after straying outside of your bloghome. A loud crash sounds from the main room. You hear the demonic flat voices, speaking emojis. In the dark, you can barely make out the shape of a normal girl standing at the end of your hallway. As your eyes adjust to the low light, you see that her eyes are completely black. Another girl stands beside her. Another behind her. Another beside her. Another one above her, crawling along the ceiling in a Poltergeist-like way. The girls seem to be multiplying. There are too many to count. Your drone button is in the main room and you are barricaded by the pack of girls in front of your bedroom, all of them attempting to talk dirty in their harsh and flat voices. The black ooze is growing closer, seeming to be erupting from their bodies even as they live before you. You need to find a way out. You look to your window. Five more girls stand outside, their eyes black and pounding on the glass to get to you. You look to the closet as a place to potentially put a door between you and them, but you spot one crawling out of your boxes of memes from 4 years ago saying, “California🍆💦Virgo🥵I will be ur cum mom✨” Terror envelopes you. You cannot escape. They are everywhere. There is no escape. The girls will never end. The black ooze fills your room and pulls you in, leaving you unable to run to grab your Tumblr Drone Button.
