Bitter Blood (Partners by Blood) - the first jdrama I finished watching, the comedy in this series is great and aside from the genre mentioned, there are other elements of the series that made it worth watching. Genre: Action, Comedy, Mystery Main Cast: Satou Takeru, Watabe Atsuro

Kagi no Kakatta Heya - this got my interest because of the main cast but it definitely became one of my favorites that I still rewatch even to this day Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Drama Main Cast: Ohno Satoshi, Toda Erika, Sato Koichi

Good Doctor - this one originated from Kdrama of the same title, I watched the Korean and US versions so I can definitely say that this version has a different flavor to offer Genre: Life, Drama, Medical Main Cast: Yamazaki Kento, Ueno Juri, Fujiki Naohito

Mystery to Iunakare - I posted this one before and I even read the manga, the mysteries are not that mind-blowing but the main character is very interesting. this will have a movie that will feature one of the arcs in the manga and I am also looking forward to it. ^^ Genre: Mystery, Psychological, Life, Drama Main Cast: Suda Masaki

Shikaku Tantei Higurashi Tabito - the MC is also interesting, he had an accident in the past that lead to losing all his senses except his sense of sight and he is using his ability as a private detective. this has 2 seasons by the way so if ever you're going to watch this and enjoyed watching the first season, you might as well check season 2 Genre: Mystery, Drama, Supernatural Main Cast: Matsuzaka Tori, Tabe Mikako, Hamada Gaku, Sumida Moeno

Nobunaga Concerto - this one's based on manga, I never read the manga or watched the anime so maybe this could be another reason why I appreciated the live-action version but if you haven't read or watched the animanga, you can give this a try too Genre: Action, Military, Historical, Comedy Main Cast: Oguri Shun, Shibasaki Ko

3 Nen A Gumi: Ima kara Mina-san wa, Hitojichi Desu - you can watch this on Netflix, this is also a very good series Genre: Action, Thriller, Mystery, Psychological Main Cast: Suda Masaki, Nagano Mei

99.9: Keiji Senmon Bengoshi - MC is also weird so it got me, I have a thing for characters that are too weird but too good in what they do. this has season 2 as well ^^ Genre: Mystery, Comedy, Law Main Cast: Matsumoto Jun, Kagawa Teruyuki, Eikura Nana

Radiation House - this is also based on manga, I've read only a few chapters but I think the series was also well-made, there's romance but not to the point that it would go off the actual plot Genre: Mystery, Drama, Medical Main Cast: Kubota Masataka, Honda Tsubasa, Hirose Alice

Bokura wa Kiseki de Dekite Iru - now this one could be a total hit or a total miss for you, some find it boring but I really loved this series, if you are fine with watching a pure slice of life drama, you might also like this one, the MC is also eccentric which also became one of the main element of the story Genre: Life, Drama Main Cast: Kubota Masataka, Honda Tsubasa, Hirose Alice

Dousuru Ieyasu’s Twitter account released some Oichi teasers so I did a little article hunting (since I can’t find the stream for this episode to look at). 

“Tomboy” Oichi is something that I see very often in manga, but I think this is the first time I’m seeing it in live action. She’s even wearing the two-coloured kimono that Nobunaga often wears in dramas (katamigawari kimono, it’s a real fashion that already existed since the late Kamakura period). 

The actress commented that her role feels more like “Nobunaga’s younger brother” than a younger sister. I think the writers created this in reference to this widespread legend where Nobuanaga said that if Oichi had been a man, she would've been a great warrior. I wonder if that will change, because I’ve seen some stories make her lose that “tomboyness” after getting married.  

A rather unique take here is that when Nobunaga and Ieyasu* was forming their alliance after Okehazama, Nobunaga proposed that Ieyasu marry Oichi. However, Oichi refused, despite apparently harbouring feelings for Ieyasu. Apparently in this scenario, they had became close at the time when young Ieyasu was snatched up by the Oda.  

I’ve seen unusual romances pop up in novels or manga (Ieyasu being in love with Oichi happened in the Nobunaga Concerto manga), but I don’t know if NHK Taiga dramas ever did this before. NHK is being really daring with this. I applaud them for trying, though, haha. I always welcome new takes.

*) Ieyasu still goes by Motoyasu at this point, but supposedly he will become “Ieyasu” only a few months after he allied with Nobunaga.

Oh, of course they’d make Nouhime pull a knife on Nobunaga. Because, you know, Strong Woman. Or that stupid ass legend about Saitou Dousan giving her a knife and saying “Hey if your husband is stupid kill him”. 

No, I don’t care I don’t have any context for this. There’s no explanation that can recontextualize this scene to make it “okay” for me. There’s enough of it in the trailer that makes this look like a "You know that I know that you’re making empty threats” scenario, and I still don’t like it.

Please stop with the trope of “The suitable woman for Nobunaga is a tough girl who would pull a knife on him or sock him in the face or yell at him”. It’s been done a bajillion times, it’s boring, I’m fed up by this trope, and even worse, it’s not realistic. If Nouhime really did pull this, the only reason Nobunaga won’t kill her is because it would make Saitou Dousan angry/break the treaty. 

It’s the same trope as the typical bad shoujo romance where the oresama love interest gets socked in the face by the ~feisty~ heroine and he goes “inTerEsting”. In reality, someone with a hot temper and a lot of pride would only get angrier if confronted aggressively like this. Maybe even turn violent, depending on how nasty the man’s personality is. I don’t know if this is someone’s girlboss fantasy, but it’s not mine, so I’m just annoyed by this trope.

If you want to make a scenario where Nobunaga doesn’t get mad by a vicious woman, it’s only if you write Nobunaga as a very very patient or gentle character who just doesn’t get angry easily.  

I don’t know what it is with movie makers and why they keep doing this. I remembered that in the Nobunaga Concerto live action (forgot if it’s movie or drama) they turned Nouhime into this Tomboy Not Like Other Girls (TM) character too, even though in the original manga she’s an elegant and gentle woman, and a bunch of the manga readers got pissed off by this. 

Other manga like Nobunaga no Chef also portrays her as this noble and elegant woman, with pride and dignity, and she still looks like someone who can stand next to Nobunaga on equal terms. Power doesn’t have to mean knives and swords and stabbing people.
